barry being autistic is just really funny to me its like a joke but also the idea of him being real rep is very special to me too i have talked about this a lot SORRY i like discussing it . i like saying things . barry as an undiagnosed adult makes perfect sense because obviously john sr. and fuches would not know or understand any of that and would not bother to really look into it further than "hes shy" -> "hes depressed" . and also him being genuinely really dumb when the mainstream Consumerized autistic character has to be exctremely smart and catty and quick-witted and sarcastic . they have to still function in society and still be extremely intelligent to make up for it and theyre obsessed with science and cars and whatever the fuck . <- i know there are characters who arent like this in media but i specifically am talking about the MainStream CONSUMERIZED form of quirky cute uwu autism thats gotten popular the past few years . the kind where all you have to do is be a bit awkward and be a bit obsessed with something . while barry is sincerely dumb and doesnt understand simple questions and doesnt comprehend relationships and is so gullible and so stupid and the only "skill" he has that "makes up for it" is the skill that also results in him being alienated and In fact is a trait we as the viewer dislike him for . barry being awkward and nervous and oblivious is a very specific part of his personality most noticeable in s1 but as time goes on and he starts to seem more "normal" it can still be viewed as masking via the scenes where his "mask" (version of himself he tried to build) cracks and hes just as awkward and weird and oblivious again . his behavior from tricky legacies to the wizard is one specific moment of that to me . functionally hes a "savant" in that hes extremely dumb with one specific skill/interest that hes exceptionally talented/knowledgeable about. though i dont know if id consider that FULLY because he isnt like. his special interest isnt guns lol but he does have lots of odd little fixations and traits and those fixations are also heavily linked to his PTSD and father issues/abandonment issues and his need for validation . well anyways barry being very messy and fucked up and flawed and his mental illnesses/disorders contributing to it and they create lots of real long-term problems in his life which , though exaggerated or shown in different metaphorical ways, can be very accurate to what real people w/ those illnesses/disorders and even real veterans and survivors of war and stuff go through . but even then we get direct proof that barrys awkwardness and shyness wasnt caused BY the war or by john sr. or fuches because he was already like that as a child. and also i just like to use him as an example of how things can be canon by being inferrable and implied in the text without having to be directly stated . you make a character who is extremely awkward, terrible at relationships, cannot understand tone, rhetorical questions, or metaphors, who is extremely gullible to the point it gets him into serious trouble SEVERAL times , and who is finally again i keep bringing up the rain man comparison AGAIN he is compared to raymond from rain man, possibly the most well-known autistic character (and movie related to that) in america i would think . so like . at that point its canon without them having to explicitly state it at all . what was the point of this. oh barry is just good representation of a severely mentally ill person and a good commentary of how society and organizations can fail mentally ill people . and sally also i would like to talk about sally one day but i need to rewatch early s4 for that probably .... . i am very mentally ill and i like talking about how it can be shown in media (thumbs up emoji) . i dont know if any of these words form a coherent sentence

byler Valentine’s Day: pre-relationship getting together, Will out to the party, Mike isnt and he’s still nervous about coming out even to Will but also especially to Will, partly bc he’s only partially even admitted it to himself, but he noticed Will seems a little more melancholy as Valentine’s Day approaches (cuz Yk, being gay in the 80s) so he decides he’s gonna cheer Will up on Valentine’s Day by hanging out with him all day and watching movies and planning DnD campaigns and going to the arcade, basically he ends up doing a sort of date without realizing it but also kind of realizing it, and Will thinks it’s sweet but is also woefully confused and a little sad.

“Anyways,” Mike says, quick and rushed, “I, um… I’ve only got a few quarters left, so… what do you want to play? I figured we could go back to my house after this, ‘cause I, um… I’ve got something else planned for us!”

Much to Mike’s relief, the strained smile on Will’s face melts away into something a little more genuine, though still not quite a true Will smile. He still seems a bit off, which just sucks, and is definitely something Mike is going to have to fix.

“You really went all out for this, didn’t you?” Will says with a bit of a chuckle, and Mike grins.

“Maybe,” he says innocently. “I told you already. I’m on a mission to make you smile today.” 

The softness in Will’s eyes return, and he ducks his head, as if embarrassed. A ghost of a smile tugs at his lips, and that familiar, rosy pink tint spreads across his cheeks.

i don't want to sway the votes so i won't do any propaganda for them after the poll starts BUT it's Wu Zetian/Li Shimin/Gao Yizhi from Iron Widow i just love the way their relationship develops so much and as someone whos unable to actually pick up a book and focus on it, the fact that i read iron widow in 4 days is amazing im still proud of that as silly as it is

yknow what ill use this as an opportunity to ramble about them askdgakdjk spoilers ahead but ill try to keep the major stuff out

for context the book has pacific rim style mechas, but instead of being drift compatible or whatever its usually a male pilot and his concubine whose life force he usually drains in order to pilot the thing, but theres a LOT of propaganda that makes girls want to be concubines, or families might wanna send their daughters for the money. im simplifying it a LOT especially cause theres more info u only learn later on as zetian herself finds out but anyway

at the start of the book zetian and yizhi are besties who obviously have feelings for each other. zetian is poor while hes very rich so their friendship is kind of a secret and they meet in the woods which i think is cute, point is its p clear zetian tries to mantain a distance, not allowing herself to admit her feelings. for reasons i wont say zetian decided to become a concubine to one of the like bigger more badass guys even if she doesnt believe the propaganda and knows she might die, she only tells yizhi this the day before

he shows up at her house the next day begging her family to let him marry her?????? which is sweet because he wants to protect her but that isnt gonna work bestie sorry she's a woman w a mission

so anyway she goes to the concubine thing and shes surprisingly powerful "for a girl" which yeah thats a super common trope but shes so much more than just the strong protagonist. shes extremely powerful in every sense of the word imo and i love her so much and i wish the world hadnt been so cruel that she had to become so strong. but anyway the guy she wants to pilot w picks her. MAJOR SPOILER they have to pilot the mecha on day 1 cause they're under attack and uhhh she kills him lol lmao she drains her life force instead which supposedly is UNHEARD OF

so they cant just kill her off cause that'd look bad instead they send her to be the concubine of the strongest guy (all of his concubines die after 1 fight) and thats Li Shimin my beloved my little meow meow hes looked down on and kinda treated like an animal cause hes a criminal and the only reason he gets to be a pilot is his powerful qi. anyway shes forced to live w him and turns out hes just a lil guy. like hes very big and scary looking but hes just a tired man pls he needs a break. she fucking survived piloting w him which nobody expected. so now theres a lotta stuff going on i wont get into but some ppl arent happy w this duo cause they're both very powerful and not exactly happy to serve. and Shimin has a drink problem.

IN ENTERS GAO YIZHI hes back babey!!! and he decides to help shimin w his alcoholism. its funny cause when they first meet his crush on li shimin is so fucking obvious zetian is like "huh i always suspected he liked guys too" but li shimin is just pissed cause this is the guy who wants to make him stop drinking

theres like 1 moment of jealousy that i can remember when li shimin realizes zetian and yizhi have a thing going on but its settled very quickly and they all kiss.

back to the drift compatible thing: at one point in the final battle zetian and shimin need more power and yizhi literally lends them his qi (its extremely rare for a third person to help) and its beautiful and they are so in love and i cant wait for the sequel

His name is Silverwings and the story behind him is quite special :] i was gifted this lil guy at a ren faire when i was 9, and he stayed above my headboard as a room guardian for quite some time. When i turned 20, i ended up in a situation where i lost 95% of everything i owned, including Silverwings. Seeing as i'd had him for 11 years at that point, i was pretty heartbroken, and searched with little success for 6 whole years to see if i could find the person who made him. But eventually, with a stroke of pure luck, i found the maker's etsy!!! and i was able to buy a very similar version of him back (and even sent her a very heartfelt and teary note about it when i did), and now he's home again❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

The poem to me is ultimately was about how even though he isnt made from the original material as the toy i lost, i still consider him to be the same dragon; hence the last line about the ship of theseus. Ive always kinda felt that people come at that question from the wrong angle, tbh; to me, it doesnt matter if the material is different. It's still you if thats who you feel like. Its still the same ship if you regard it as the same ship. Its still the same dragon if you decide its the same stuffed dragon. In the end, i think what really matters is the spirit of whatever's in question, in whatever form that happens to take❤️

i dont think techno says anything. he just sits there while being asked questions. he and sneeg really share the sentiment of feeling ridiculous being dressed up like the capitol does with children and paraded around and such

(side note to that: one of the brief moments of levity in the whole thing is ranboo trying Really hard not to laugh at sneeg all dressed up for the opening ceremonies, because you Know they've got the outfits of all time. tommy and tubbo are the ones with the Cool Stylists. ranboo looked like a loofah their first games)

as for some of the others.... niki would go last (i know in traditional hunger games the male tribute goes last, but i changed the rules anyway so the tributes are not pulled by gender, so fuck it yknow), so she's really got a lot of pressure to get a good last word in. as amazing as it would be for her to yell at the capitol, shes incredibly smart and would definitely come up with Something to kinda... make the victors feel like theyre really in it together, if only for the moment. problem is, she is very smart. i currently have NO ideas. but just know she is so cool and amazing.

ok this is message is from me whos about to post this after typing all of it. there is . A Lot here so im gonna put it under a readmore but the copious amount of infodumping is just what i do when people ask about my ocs... hope this isnt too long or overwhelming to read lol..

OMG OK ok so i collectively call all my oc stuff "wttu" (welcome to the universe) but i have 2 seperate oc universes (i have a lot of ocs) ones called godsworld and ones called newsworld. newsworld is really random & spotaneous & where i dump all my silly ocs and godsworld is the more coherent one with a solid storyline & worldbuilding. i feel like talking about godsworld ocs right now so that's what ill do ! ok so quick synopsis. godsworld is a multiverse comprised of many dimensions, all created by three gods named time, choice, and destiny. magic is real and common and magicians have existed since the beginning of time. there's also a few very special super magical very powrful beings / demigods called all-seers which were specifically "blessed"(idk how else to put it) by the gods. these are the 4 all-seers as of godsworlds present:

(sorry for the doodles im drawing these as i type) william and miso were created by the gods and given allseer powers later in life and around 200 years later the same thing happened to gertrude and mitchell after they met william and miso (yeah these guys are like ancient immortal people i call them the four immortals) anyways that's like the ancient stuff lore so now let's get to the main stuff the main storyline of godsworld centers around a kid named tobias , and a guy named cremini finding out they're going to be the next two allseers, mainly because of their connections to tobias' late father (and creminis ex classmate ex roomate and sort of ex boyrfriend) Larry.

and like. that's kinda where the lore and worldbuilding part gets vauge because the present is kind of just these guys having adventures and doing fun stuff while honing their magic skills. there's still a little more to talk about though.

after living out his childhood in a town called santerton, tobias went to live in a magical sanctuary in a dimension that the four immortals made and where miso and william live called the Home(creative i know) where he met 3 other guys around his age that are now his besties ;

parker is royalty from a dimension that's still in the 1800s (hes pretty smug and arrogant both bc of his upbringing and also just because that's his personality), carson is a city kid from a dimension that's still in the 90's (he's a pretty chill guy despite his circumstances and the oldest out of all 4), and daniel's from a remote fishing town in a dimension that's somewhere in the 2010s (who ironically, loves fishing and is also just really energetic and hearty in general). on the other hand, cremini, after finishing college at a very prestigious school for time and dimension studies that mitchell teaches at and fulfilling his childhood dream of time traveling and then accidentally throwing himself into a white void Because Emotions, met. this guy.

Favourite Album: how big how blue how beautiful - god i love this album so much. the only thing thats missing is that my #1 favorite song isnt on it lmao... the first few songs are the best album openers ever in my book, theres so much variety in the album too yet it still sounds and feels very coherent, and the last song mother, with how it ends on such a resigned/frustrated/exhausted feeling, yeah that always gets me....

really fucking doubt ill ever make a coherent story with anyone. its super easy to pick out even just duos to write about (kendra n emery are always spinning in my brain, kats n kais breakout, coral n saros first meeting, gods dont get me started with kishi) but nothing is actually fleshed out, just basic scenes and ideas of what the start and end is. i still love my lil kids tho, rly need to draw them more often.

Do you ever have motivation issues to continue making art daily?

omg absolutely!

some days i'll really have to drag my brain for hours to even open aseprite. usually its just a Getting Started problem, and once im drawing i start having fun

in march i did a whole month of much smaller pieces bc i was starting to feel really burnt out so wanted to give myself some time where i was still making art but spending much less time on it, which helped!

other things i do on The Hard Days:

different style! sometimes bc itll be quicker, or sometimes just bc it feels different

set a timer, and tell myself that when it goes off i don't need to ~work on it~ properly any more, just clean it up n post n go do something else (usually i'll get into the zone and continue normally!)

let myself fall down very deep rabbit holes of looking for inspiration. eventually ill find something that sounds very fun to draw (even if it's miles off the original prompt)

tell myself bluntly 'its okay if this one sucks' even if its kind of a bummer to get way less notes on a thing, that's better than suffering lol (and in tru tumblr fashion sometimes those are ones that do really well)

i think for other people i would also add "some days it's fine to just accept yr not feeling it today, go do something else to recharge. tomorrow will hopefully be better"! but for me, once i stop doing something consistently i just.....stop and find it very hard to get going again so im v wary of taking that approach for myself. maybe one day i'll take another week off to recharge if these things stop working for me :)
