He’s severely unprepared for how bad Steve looks in front of the microphone. Something in his gut lurches at seeing his Alpha so tired on the stage, posture slumped and defeated, dark bruises under his eyes. But then sharp, piercing blue eyes look directly into the camera, and Peter’s breath catches in his throat. He expected Captain America to take the stage— all patriotic charisma and confidence— but no, the man Peter’s looking at is fueled by something different, something deeper. He methodically describes the events of that day, beginning with the plan to destroy the mind stone and ending with Thanos’s disappearance and the consequences afterwards. “We are certain that Thanos has taken every half of each soulmate pair: bonded or not, discovered or not, living or not. This was personal. Every Avenger you see left has lost their mate, and I lost my mate, before I was even able to meet him.” Goosebumps prickle across Peter’s skin as he watches Steve Rogers, raw and exposed, vow in his honor. “We’re going to get them back. And I promise— for my mate and all of yours— I’ll bring you Thanos’ head on a platter.” Peter reaches out, tracing the image of Steve on the screen with his fingertips. “You did it, Alpha,” he whispers, “now come home to me for real this time.”
