Your fic Rapture was seriously the best thing I've ever read. I am ALL FOR brother Oikawa. I know you're only open for drabbles and thirsts, but would you ever consider writing a second part to the story?
AHHH mownin hehe first off thank you so much for reading it! Thank you for praising it so highly and sending me this eeee truth to be told, I do actually have a pt2 plotted (and maybe even a pt3 if I can figure out the content, maybe) but because I treasure Rapture so much, I’m in that limbo stage where I’m afraid to start on pt2 until my writing is at the quality I want it to be, if that makes sense?
For the longest time I refused to even consider a pt2 just because I’m like— what’s there to even write? I loved where it concluded, so there’s no need to drag it out for no reason, but I received an ask (not for rapture just a thirst) and I suddenly had an epiphany, I even have the last line ready hahahaha BUT once again at the rate I’m writing rn I don’t think I could do it any justice, so I’ve been too scared to start it. but it’s a hesitant y-yes I would for sure!

Phantom Thief Hanako-kun AU Story: Chapter 4 - The Heist
Tumblr media
Hey guys! Thanks for your patience! Life gets busy.
Enjoy!
---
-Previously in the last chapter...
-Yashiro and Tsuchigomori discovered Detective Three′s corpse at the crime scene
-Believing Hanako to be innocent, Yashiro took on the case to clear his name
-And a heist note had been delivered. Hanako planned to steal the moon.
-So what happens now?
-Next morning, Yashiro went to Tsuchigomori’s detective agency as usual
-To find Teru and Kou there discussing with Tsuchigomori
-Teru: “We appreciate if you could cooperate, Detective Tsuchigomori. The police force would like all the help we could get.”
Tsuchigomori: “Ugh.”
Yashiro: “What’s going on here?”
Kou: “Ah Senpai! Good morning!”
Yashiro: “Kou-kun! Good morning!”
Kou: “We’re discussing about the heist that’s happening tonight! We’re gathering information to capture Hanako!”
Yashiro: “Ah. Kou-kun, could you come here for a second?”
Kou: “Hm?”
-Yashiro dragged Kou out of earshot from the other two and whispered to him
-Yashiro: “Listen, do you think you could distract your brother during the heist? I don’t want him capturing Hanako. At least not yet.”
-Kou: “What? Why not, Senpai?”
-Yashiro: “Detective Three’s been murdered. Hanako is being suspected but I know it’s not him. If the police gets him, I wouldn’t be able to interrogate him.”
-Kou looked surprised but he understood the situation.
-He didn’t even question why Yashiro was sure. He just believed.
-Kou: “Okay I got it.”
-Yashiro: “Thanks, Kou-kun! It’s a secret between the two of us!”
-”The two of us”
-Those words echoed in Kou’s mind as he got slightly flustered
-Yashiro looked really dazzling to him
-Kou still wanted to ask her though
-Kou: “Is it okay if I let Mitsuba know?”
-Yashiro: “That’s fine! But don’t let him write about it in the papers just yet. It’s supposed to be still under wraps.”
-Kou: “Got it!”
-The two went back to where Tsuchigomori and Teru were.
-They were apparently discussing about the meaning of the heist notice.
-Tsuchigomori: “It’s the moon. Simple. That’s what it says on the letter.”
-Teru: “You don’t think there’s more to this? How does someone steal the moon? I can’t wrap my head around it.”
-Tsuchigomori just shrugged. He looked slightly irritated.
-Yashiro also thought the heist notice was weird.
-Perhaps by the time of the heist, they would understand.
-Teru: “Anyways, we’ll be sure to provide security to Aoi-san’s property again. He notified us about the location. The thief seems to often frequent his places huh.”
-Throughout many heists in the past, Hanako would steal from the gem collector Akane.
-Poor Akane. It was hard for him to trust the police force since they couldn’t protect his jewels each time.
-He wanted to impress Aoi and get a successful love confession
-His outfit even looked like a phantom thief kind since Aoi took a liking to Hanako, which Akane could not understand. He would capture Hanako and show Aoi that he was better! So he wanted to do.
-He hadn’t had much luck there sadly.
-So everyone waited for the time of the heist
-Night time arrived
-Crowds swarmed around the tall building where the heist was going to be as they chanted for Hanako
-Yashiro was among them, trying to get into the building
-Oh gosh she was late
-She should have arrived to the scene earlier
-It was taking her some time to squeeze through the crowds
-Never had she seen and expected so many people before
-Perhaps everyone was wondering how Hanako would steal the moon tonight
-It was all over the news.
-How was she going to get to Hanako before the police did?
-She decided she would but the amount of security was incredible
-Somewhere in the crowd, she spotted Mitsuba who was being interrogated by the news reporters Natsuhiko and Sakura
-Natsuhiko: “Hey boy! What are your thoughts on Hanako stealing the moon?”
-Mitsuba: “M-me? My thoughts...I’m not so sure. I find it absolutely crazy.”
-Natsuhiko: “Right! Hahaha!”
-Well they sure were having fun. Sakura was telling Natsuhiko they should interrogate the others
-Yashiro finally arrived inside the building on the first floor
-She was allowed in since she was part of the capturing team
-Everyone else she knew must be at the rooftop
-That place was heavily guarded since you could see the moon from there
-It was the highest place to the sky
-The heist could start any minute and she wasn’t with the others. Geez.
-She rushed to find the stairs
-But then the lights in the building suddenly blacked out.
-Hanako must have messed with the electricity
-Let the heist begin
-The policemen were in their positions in the building
-They were organized on each floor in case Hanako tried to escape to them
-But the blackout started confusing them
-Thinking they need to at least move around, they set off booby traps they didn’t know were there
-Definitely Hanako’s doing
-Yashiro got lost
-She hadn’t set off any traps thankfully
-She had prepared a flashlight on her just in case to navigate herself
-The building was huge though
-Where were the stairs?
-The elevator wouldn’t be working since the electricity went out and it wasn’t a good idea anyways
-To steal the moon, the one location Hanako should be at would be the rooftop, right?
-Oh why did she have to arrive late?!
-As she was frantically looking around in the dark, a hand grabbed her shoulder from behind
-Yashiro freaked the hell out
-Yashiro: “KYAAAAHHH”
-She heard laughing and immediately recognized it. Hanako.
-She turned around to see him
-Hanako: “Detective, why are you so jumpy? Haha”
-Yashiro: “Hanako! You...! What?!”
-Wait, why was Hanako here?! Where were the others?
-Nevermind that! Wasn’t this what she wanted in the first place?
-Yashiro: “I need to ask you something--”
Hanako: “Hey Detective, do you believe in real magic?”
-What? That just came out of nowhere
-She started pondering
-Real magic? Like a mystical force that defies logic and reason?
-What does this have to do with anything? Why would she go believing that?!
-Yashiro: “If real magic existed, there would be no need for detectives. There’s a reason behind everything, so no.”
-Hanako: “Heh. So that’s your answer. You don’t dream, do you?”
-Yashiro: “Wh- I can totally dream! Wait stop distracting me!”
-There was no time to waste! They’re in the middle of the heist!
-Yashiro was so angry right now though. She wanted to release all her built up stress she’s had
-Yashiro: “You are so reckless! Maybe the most reckless person I’ve ever met! Not only do you steal jewels, you crash into my apartment, take a bullet out of you with a knife, make a risky deal with me, crossdress to meet my friends when you didn’t even need to, and now you’re trying to steal the moon at the most terrible time?! Do you have no sense of danger?! Or is this what thrills you?! HUH?! Don’t steal the moon! It shouldn’t even be possible!”
-Hanako: “Calm down, detective! It’s not good for you to get so angry. Besides, I already accomplished my mission.”
-Yashiro: “YOU ARE THE REASON I--wait what did you say?”
-Hanako showed Yashiro the very thing that he stole. A lunar rock.
-Hanako: “Pretty, isn’t it? I guess people don’t usually consider this as a gem but I do. That gem collector had this as part of his collection here in this building”
-Yashiro’s mind was completely blown
-Yashiro: “WHAT?! I THOUGHT IT WAS THE ENTIRE MOON”
-Hanako: “Oh, so you can dream, detective!”
-Yashiro’s eye twitched
-Oh she’s had it. And she was so worried about him too!
-She went to pin him down in a rage
-A moment soon, Akane and Aoi arrived to where they were.
-Akane: “AHA I KNEW IT! I didn’t give all the information to the police because screw them! I’m going to be the one to capture you--what are you guys doing?”
-Aoi: “Nene-chan...?”
-Yashiro looked up to see them
-Yashiro: “Huh? Akane-kun? Aoi?”
-Yashiro realized the position they were in. She was on top pinning down the thief.
-Hanako: “Oh I didn’t know you had it in you, detective~”
-Hanako just had to tease
-Yashiro’s face blushed completely red and she immediately got off
-Yashiro: “YOU GUYS MISUNDERSTAND!”
-Hanako got up and started running away
-Ah.
-They began the chase
-Akane: “Wait, you thief!”
-Yashiro: “WAIT HANAKO!”
-She hasn’t even asked him her most important question yet!
-Yashiro: “Did you murder Detective Three?!”
-Hanako flinched and stopped running
-The others did too, looking at Yashiro in question
-Yashiro: “Detective Three was murdered a couple days ago! And the police suspect you but I believe it was an imposter! You’ve been framed!”
-Hanako turned his head towards the party
-He looked quite troubled and pale
-Hanako: “And what if it really was me? What if I said I was guilty? Would you charge me right now?”
-Yashiro froze
-Okay, what the hell was he going on about??
-Is he okay??
-Yashiro knows it can’t be him already so why wasn’t he denying it?!
-Suddenly, a whip came forth and Hanako jumped out of the way
-Teru appeared. Looks like Kou couldn’t hold him off any longer
-Teru: “So this is where you are, thief. I should have known. Our battle isn’t over yet.”
-Hanako: “Tch”
-Oh no! What should Yashiro do?!
-Was there no way out of this??
-Aoi:“This way!”
-A smoke bomb exploded and Yashiro and Hanako were pulled along
-Akane followed with Aoi
-Teru blew the smoke out of the way with his weapon to find them gone
-Teru: "Huh..."
-Back with the group, they appeared to have found a secret passage
-Akane: “Ao-chan...why did you have a smoke bomb? Also, how did you know there was a secret passage here?”
-Aoi: “Hehe I know a lot of stuff, Akane-kun! I’ve done my research on this building and I’ve studied Hanako’s smoke bombs before. I wanted to make one!”
-Akane: “Darn it thief! Stop influencing Ao-chan! But Ao-chan sure is really smart!~”
-As usual, Akane was fawning over Aoi
-Yashiro questioned Aoi’s actions
-Yashiro: “Wait Aoi, you’re helping Hanako?”
-Aoi: “Nene-chan, I know you. You’re trying to clear his name, right?”
-Yashiro: “Aoi....I’m glad you understand!”
-Akane: “Ao-chan, he’s a phantom thief though...”
-Aoi: “Please Akane-kun. For me.”
-Akane: “Aaaa how could I say no?!”
-They seemed to have forgotten about the stolen lunar rock
-Now focusing on getting out of the building
-Hanako was quiet the whole time
-Which felt really strange
-Once they gotten out safely, Akane and Aoi left Yashiro and Hanako alone
-They were in an alleyway where nobody else was around
-Yashiro confronted Hanako
-Yashiro: “Hanako, I know it can’t be you. Who is the murderer?”
-No response from him
-His expression was unreadable at this point
-Yashiro sighed. She wasn’t getting anywhere
-Yashiro: “Sorry”
-She apologized.
-Hanako looked at her confused. Finally some expression she could read
-Yashiro: “I’ve been demanding information from you the whole time. It’s unfair of me to not share any from my side. I haven’t properly introduced myself to you, even though we agreed to get know each other.”
-Yashiro took a stance, pointing at herself smiling
-Yashiro: “I’m Yashiro Nene! A detective’s apprentice from Tsuchigomori’s detective agency. It’s nice to meet you!”
-A second later and Yashiro waved her hands at him
-Yashiro: “Ah you don’t have to tell me anything! Just let me tell you a few things. Back before I began this job, my best friend Aoi was framed for something she didn’t do. Akane-kun tried to bribe the police but it didn’t work. I didn’t know what to do and I was scared. I was crying a lot. And then, Tsuchigomori-sensei stepped into my life. He proved Aoi was innocent and I felt really thankful. That’s when I decided I wanted to become his apprentice and learn from him.”
-Hanako: “It wasn’t because you had a crush on the devil?”
-Yashiro: “Minamoto-senpai isn’t a devil! He means well! That may be partly why but it’s not the main reason.”
-Hanako: “Heh~”
-Yashiro: “I’ve decided. I’m going to call you Hanako-kun from now on! We’re friends now and you’re not allowed to object!”
-Hanako looked surprised.
-A detective wanting to be friends with a phantom thief?
-Hanako: “Pff what a weird detective.”
-He smiled a little
-Yashiro: [pouts] “What do you mean by that?”
-She was relieved that he seemed to be feeling better
-Hanako: “...Actually I do have something I want to say to you.”
-Yashiro: ?
-He embraced her in the alleyway, the moonlight shining so beautifully on them
-Hanako: “I never got to properly thank you for saving me that night. Thank you. Thank you for caring about me.”
---
-Meanwhile on the rooftop
-Kou was talking with Mitsuba, mentioning about his conversation with Yashiro in the morning
-The police had declared the heist was over so Mitsuba was allowed to come over there
-Teru then just came back
-Kou: “Oh Nii-chan! You’re back! Looks like Hanako couldn’t steal the moon after all!”
-Teru: “No, he succeeded. It wasn’t the moon he was after. It was a moon rock.”
-Kou: “Oh why didn’t I think of that! Darn, we’ll get him next time! What do you want for dinner, Nii-chan--”
-Teru: “Kou”
-Kou: “Yes?”
-Teru: “Don’t think I didn’t know you were trying to prevent me from going anywhere. I saw Yashiro-san and her friends behaving oddly.”
-Kou: “Teru-nii...”
-Kou put on his glum face and Teru sighed.
-Teru: “Well...I’ll let it go this time. You guys may have a reason for doing so.”
-Kou: [smiles] “Nii-chan!”
-Mitsuba: “Minamoto-kun...”
-Kou: “Hm?”
-Mitsuba: “There’s something I should tell you...I..Well I think I’m going to go home early”
-Kou: “Oh okay! Get home safely!”
-Mitsuba arrived home, staring at the photos he took and had recently developed in the last couple days
-Mitsuba: “I didn’t tell him in the end...”
---
-Radio (Natsuhiko’s voice): --And so that’s what happened! Wow, what do you know! Phantom Thief Hanako did another successful heist! Thanks for listening folks! Now--
-A hand appeared to turn off the radio

Hakyona Week Bonus Day: Future
Ship: Hakyona
Rating: G
Genre: Fluff
Blurb: Ayame lets Yona barrow a certain, very important hair comb. Follow up to this fic.
“You really don’t need to use your nice makeup on me,” Yona says as Ayame turns away from her to reapply her makeup brush. “I haven’t worn any makeup in a while, I really don’t mind not wearing any tonight.”
Ayame bats the worry away with a dismissive gesture of her hand. “Lord Mundok paid for it, and you’re as much his grandchild as I am.” She leans downward to apply something to Yona’s lips.
They had stopped in Fuuga because Yun pointed out that he was out of nearly all of his medical supplies. Or rather, he’d grumbled about certain “reckless beasts” using up the last of his bandage rolls. Hak had wanted to stop only briefly to grab the supplies and go, but Jaeha had been the one to point out that he really wouldn’t mind sleeping in a real bed for a night. Kija had been in tears of joy at the prospect, so for all his hesitance, Hak relented and led everyone to Mundok’s Villa.
They’d been lucky enough to drop by during the Wind Tribe’s annual Kaze no Saiten, which as Hak was quick to point out, was a pretty made-up festival the Tribe had created as an excuse to party. Mundok and Tae-yeon had quickly dragged him off to catch up, while the dragons and Yun had been located to one of the biggest guest rooms in the Villa. Many of the girls had dragged Yona off to the room she’d stayed in last time she was in Fuuga, insisting she attend the night’s celebrations.  She hadn’t really resisted much, since a part of her missed dressing up from time to time. Admittedly though, she felt a little awkward around Ayame—Hak’s once-fiancée who Yona had felt some envy toward when she first heard of the ill-fated union.
The awkwardness didn’t seem to bother Ayame, though. Perhaps she didn’t notice, but occasionally Yona could see the girl studying her from the corner of her eye. Yona suspected she knew something, or at least thought something of her. Either way, Ayame seemed content to keep it to herself and had been busily constructing Yona’s makeup for the evening.
“What do you think of this one, Yona-hime?” Says another Wind Tribe girl, whom Yona had learned was named Mao.
Mao was holding up one of her gowns—pink and floral-print with a high-waisted cream sash, presenting it as Yona’s maids used to when they dressed her each morning. Mao was smaller and closer to Yona’s height than Ayame was, so she had been the one offering her clothes for the night’s festivities.
“It’s lovely,” Yona says, shifting in her stool. “I hope it isn’t too expensive. I wouldn’t want to ruin your clothes.”
Mao shakes her head, the beaded strands of her fringe bobbing. “It’s fine, pink doesn’t really suit me anyhow. You could keep it if you like!”
“No, no! That’s fine, I’ll just use it for tonight, thank you.” Yona says, embarrassed. Was the entire Wind Tribe so aggressively kind like this?
Ayame leans back over to finish applying the colour to Yona’s lips, and some blush to her cheeks. Once satisfied, she steps back and appraises her work with a nod. Yona slips off the stool and pads over to the mirror hanging on the wall opposite to her. It had been a while since she’d seen herself in makeup; she wondered what Hak would think. Would he notice?
Probably. Hak notices everything.
“Thank you,” She says, glancing back at the other girls, and they both smile in response.
“Anyways,” Mao drapes the dress onto Yona’s futon. “We better start getting dressed ourselves.”
Mao gives a little wave, before slipping out of the room. Ayame lingers a moment by the door, biting her lower lip.
“I have one more thing for you, if you wouldn’t mind waiting?” She says, almost tentatively.
Yona blinks. “I… sure, I don’t mind waiting.”
Without another word, Ayame steps out of the room and slides the door closed behind her. When she’s gone, Yona takes the opportunity to put on Mao’s gown. It’s silken and smooth against her skin, a nostalgic sensation she hasn’t felt in what seemed like years. Her regular clothes had long since worn down with wash and wear; even she had to admit they’d seen better days.
She wanders to the mirror again, pulling back the wild strands of her hair. It had grown out to graze her back, now finally long enough to put up if she wanted. After a few minutes of struggling with it, Yona drops her hair with a sigh. She’d grown up having someone else do her hair every day; she didn’t know how to do it on her own. Maybe she should ask Yun to teach her.
There’s a knock at the door, and Yona gives a start.
“Come in,” She calls, smoothing her hair down.
Ayame slips into the room, fully dressed in a green kimono and her longish blonde hair pinned back with an ornate silver comb. She slides the door shut behind her carefully, then makes her way to the stool Yona had gotten her makeup done in.
“Come sit, I’ll do your hair.” She says, patting the wooden seat.
Yona obeys, plopping down on the seat.
Ayame responds by combing through Yona’s hair gently, sliding something into her curls, just above her left ear. “I figured we just go really simple, since your hair is so pretty all by itself.”
Yona stands, rushing up to check herself in the mirror again. Three small, perfect orchids sit nestled in her hair, as though they had been somehow woven into the strands themselves. She reaches up to touch them, expecting the smooth, fragile feel of actual flower petals, but instead the orchids were a soft fabric. She tilts her head, marvelling at the lifelike flowers—they looked as if Ayame had simply plucked them off of a garden on her way to the room.
“It’s beautiful,” Yona says softly, and Ayame beams. “But isn’t this expensive? It could fall out of my hair. These flowers—”
Ayame’s smile quickly melts into a frown. “Well, actually, Lord Hak bought it so I’m not sure.”
Yona’s hand freezes over the flowers. “A birthday gift?” Yona asks, ignoring the word fiancée whipping through her mind at a mile a minute.
No, he liked me. He said so.
“No,” Ayame taps her chin. “The gift was pretty out of nowhere, actually. He just sent it to me for no particular reason, a couple of days before you showed up here the first time.”
Yona stares at herself in the mirror, and then sighs. “Still, it was a gift for you. He probably doesn’t want me or anyone else to wear it.”
“Well, actually I have a theory about that.” Ayame says with a pensive little smile. “I don’t think it was for me at all.”
Yona stares questioningly, and Ayame continues without missing a beat.
“I don’t like pink, and Hak knows that.” She says, gesturing to the comb in Yona’s hair. “And see, I’ve long suspected Lord Hak had someone back in Kuuto he loved and after getting this gift… well it confirmed, at least to me, that he must, and that perhaps something went wrong with her.”
Yona looks back to her reflection, back to the flowers that perched so perfectly in her hair. Had the gift perhaps once been meant for her? A birthday gift Hak had never given her?
She’d never questioned him too much about his feelings for her; in all honesty, she was too flustered. All she really knew was that he’d felt that way longer than she could imagine. She wonders if he’d been too nervous to give it to her. What a novel idea that would be—Hak nervous about her, of all people.  In many ways, she couldn’t wrap her head around it; Hak was ever brave, ever composed. Was he shaken enough by her that he didn’t give her the gift? Did he decide it was inappropriate for their relationship?
The thought made her sad. She never had shown Hak how grateful she was for his friendship back then. She’d taken his presence and his kindness for granted. Perhaps that had led him to believe she wouldn’t want his gift, or worse, that she wouldn’t care.
Teeth clenched, Yona turns back to Ayame. “I… thank you for this. I will wear it after all.”
Ayame flashes a smile. “Well, good.” She says. “It suits you as though it was made for you.”
Yona pauses for a moment. What does that mean? But before she could voice the question, Ayame had already turned on her heel and left the room without another word.
Yona finds her companions in Fuuga square easily; they stick out sorely from the forming crowds with their multi-coloured hairs. They too, seemed to have been treated by the citizens of the Wind Tribe, seeing as they all now wore several expensive robes Yona had never seen before.
“Don’t you look beautiful, Yona-chan?” Jae-ha tells her as she approaches.
“Thank you,” Yona replies with a smile, and Shinah steps toward her to place Ao atop her head.
“This is so elaborate,” Yun frowns, gazing down the main streets of Fuuga, where the main floor of the party was slowly starting to fill with people. “I can’t remember a time where I’ve seen such a big celebration.”
He was right; the streets were lined with lanterns and paper streamers, the cobblestone dotted with flower petals. The air was smoky with the scent of festival foods and faint music played at the far-end of the city square. Games were set up in stalls along the streets, lined by laughing festivalgoers dressed as fancily as they all were.
“Where’s Hak?” Yona says, squinting through the crowds to look for familiar dark hair.
“You miss him already?” Jae-ha teases, prompting exactly the blush she knew he was trying to provoke.
“We haven’t seen him,” Kija answers instead, elbowing the green dragon sharply. “Perhaps he’s with Lord Mundeok?”
Yona spies between the crowds, watching for that familiar mop of dark hair. Finally, she spots him weaving through the crowd, grinning as his little brother tugged him along at the wrist. Tae-yeon, for his part, seems to notice the Happy Hungry Bunch and makes direct and resolute beeline for them.
“Yona-hime!” The young boy calls, smiling brightly.
“… The smallest blond Hak.” Murmurs Shin-ah, as the Son brothers approach.
“Hi Tae-yeon,” Yona bends to meet the younger brother’s eye, and Ao scampers off of her head and back into Shinah’s hands. “It’s good to see you out and about tonight.”
Tae-yeon cups his mouth and leans toward her. “I brought your husband.”
Immediately, Yona feels dangerous warmth spreading across her face and Jae-ha lets out a cough that sounds suspiciously close to laughter. Hak places a hand to Tae-yeon’s head, ruffling his golden hair.
“Let’s not get carried away, we’re not to that point.” Hak says.
Yona dares to let her gaze jump to Hak, finding that he’s got a hand pressed over his lips and his head tilted away to hide the slight redness colouring his face. So cute.
“Well!” Jae-ha says, throwing an arm over Kija’s shoulders. “I think there were a couple of Wind Tribe girls looking for a dance over there, Kija-kun.”
Kija doesn’t seem to agree, but he also doesn’t argue when Jae-ha drags him away to melt into the quickly growing crowd. Zeno grabs Shin-ah by the arm and also pulls him into the crowd, Yun following closely behind and urging him to be careful not to bump into anyone. Tae-yeon clasps Yona’s hands in his for a moment, squeezing lightly, then runs off in search of his grandfather.
Yona straightens back to her full height, her hands fiddling with the sleeves of her kimono.
“Hime-san… uh, Yona.” Hak corrects himself. “Would you like to dance?”
Predictably, her cheeks warm at the sound of her name from his lips. It was a big adjustment for both of them to make the change to Yona’s name, but she felt it was important. Hak is her lover now, and they should be equals in every way. But that didn’t stop Hak from slipping up, nor did it automatically make Yona accustomed to hearing it from him.
Yona gives a small nod, and allows Hak to pull her onto the edge of the dance floor. He takes her hip in one hand, her hand in the other. He is shockingly good at following the steps, his movements graceful as they are in battle. Although Yona supposed that she shouldn’t be shocked; Hak was a prodigy at everything, why not dancing as well?
“You’re all dressed up,” Hak comments as they dance.
“Mao let me borrow the kimono,” Yona says, her eyes sliding downward to her dress. “Ayame did my makeup.”
“You look pretty.” Hak says it so simply, like he does anything.
“Thank you,” Yona smiles. “I… so do you.”
Hak cocks his head, a brow raised. “I look pretty? Thank you.”
Yona stammers, realizing what she’d just said. “Wait, no I didn’t mean, um—!” She trails off, redder than her hair.
Hak laughs. “It’s alright, I understand.”
His assurance does little to alleviate Yona’s embarrassment. She tilts her head away from him, the rush of heat to her face still intense. At the movement, Yona hears a sudden, quiet exhale from Hak and their dancing comes to a halt. He lifts his hand from her hip to tilt a finger under her chin, his eyes wide, as though he was only now seeing her.
“Hak?” She says, blinking up at him in confusion.
He swallows. His hand slides up her jaw to rest in her hair, his fingers tracing a path of heat that made her heart thump.
“Yona, this is…?” He exhales, and Yona remembers the comb in her hair.
“I barrowed it from Ayame,” She says, her conviction in wearing the comb suddenly withered. “I apologize if it’s an important gift you bought her. I can take it off, if you’d—.”
“No!” Hak says it quickly, as though he thought she’d take it off this very moment if he didn’t get the word out fast enough. “No, no. You look beautiful wearing it.”
She meets his gaze, and he smiles warmly. Hiryuu… she loves that smile. She loves it more than anything. The hand in her hair slides back to her face, his thumb gently tracing her jawline.
“I uh,” He frowns slightly. “I’ve wanted to see you wear it for a long time now.”
The words were an unspoken admittance that the comb had been for her. Just as she’d suspected; it was the birthday gift he’d never given her. Strangely, Yona felt the prickle of tears sting the back of her eyes at the confirmation.
“I’ll wear it everyday.” She says, reaching up to touch the flower comb in her hair.
Hak laughs softly, wiping a stray tear from her cheek. He tilts her chin up to him, his thumb gently brushing her lower lip. Yona blushes harshly at the gesture, her sadness forgotten.
“May I kiss you?” He murmurs.
“Yes.” Yona breathes as he leans close.
Hak smiles, and then presses his lips to hers. It’s soft and chaste, sweet and brief. They were in public after all, but Yona swears the light touch of his lips steals the breath from her lungs. He just never fails to make her lightheaded. No matter how many times he’s kissed her, she can’t ever get used to it.
Hak pulls away slightly, their noses touching. “I love you.”
Yona smiles, cupping his cheek. “I love you too.”
This time, she is the one to close the distance between their lips.

It was a routine mission. On the Enterprise of course those are famous last words. Everyone in security knew it, even the captain knew it but he’d still said it. Twelve hours after arriving planetside you found yourself lost and alone in the middle of some kind of forest. The rest of the landing party was either dead or missing, the comms weren’t working, and there had been no signs of a rescue party.
You sat down on a fallen tree and wiped the sweat from your forehead with the back of your hand. You’d been walking for a while and your feet were beginning to tire. The sun was fading and the temperature was dropping, you’d have to find some kind of shelter soon or you weren’t going to make it through the night. Being a security officer on the Federation’s flagship was a dangerous thing and you had been fully prepared for the duties aboard the ship, but when it came down to survival skills you knew you were lacking in some areas.
Standing to your feet you started back up the side of the largest hill you’d been able to find, hoping that once you reached the top you’d be able to reach the Enterprise. You knew it was a long shot but you had to try. The ship had been unable to scan for lifesigns thoroughly, some kind of interference in the atmosphere, but they’d still managed to get a message down to the native people. Chances were they’d already written you off as dead and left without you. The very thing you’d been afraid of since you joined up with the ship a few months ago.
You’d not made any friends to speak of outside of security, the head of security had taken a particular interest in you when you’d reported in on your first day. He was a good boss and was not that bad to look at either. He’d told you the story about how he met the captain for the first time and also mentioned that whatever you may hear to the contrary, never call him “cupcake”.
You reached the hilltop as the sun disappeared on the horizon. Pulling together the materials you needed to make a shelter you threw one together as the light faded into a darkness like none you’d ever seen before. You grabbed the phaser hanging from your belt and heat a large rock beside the shelter. Huddling as close to the rock as you can you look up to the stars. “I bet you won’t even notice I’m gone.”
Up on the Enterprise
“Sir, she’s still alive down there! I know she is! We have to find her!”
“I understand Mister Hendorff. We will do everything we can to find her but the conditions at the moment are inhibiting our search. We aren’t going to leave her behind.” The captain said as calmly as he could.
Hendorff nodded and settled back in his chair and listened while the captain and Spock outlined a plan for search and rescue. You hadn’t been on the ship long but you were one of his favorites to work with. He’d gone down to the planet with you and the Captain and the rest of the security detail. You’d been assigned to assisting the captain while he’d gone off and scouted the area.
He had wanted to stick closer to you but the Captain had insisted and he couldn’t disobey a direct order. He’d left the main group and not five minutes later the mission had gone to hell. Just like always. He’d beamed back with the captain and one of his men while three others had fallen and you were last seen running into the thick brush toward the assailants.
“Mister Hendorff?”
He looked up to find the captain and others around the table staring at him. “Sir?”
“I asked if you would gather your men and prep the shuttle. We’re going down there as soon as it’s light.”
Hendorff nodded as he stood to his feet, “Aye Captain.”
Down on the planet
The phaser was drained before sunrise and the rock you had been heating had grown cold just as the sun peeked over the horizon. Every muscle in your body ached. You’d not had to run like that since grade school track. Mister Roberts was the worst. The meanest teacher you’d ever had, even the teachers at the academy had been easier to deal with than he had been.
Shaking the memory and shivering in the cold morning air you stood to your feet and reached for your comm. “Damn it!” The comm wasn’t on your belt anymore. “Must have fallen off sometime last night.”
Rubbing your hands over your arms in an attempt to warm yourself some you looked around the little shelter you’d spent the night in.
No comm.
No comm means they can’t lock on your signal.
No signal means they have no way to know where you are.
If they can’t locate you they’ll leave.
If there was one thing you’d learned while on the Enterprise it was just how expendable security personnel were.
“They probably aren’t even up there anymore.” You said to yourself as you settled back into your little shelter and watched the sun rise slowly.
Enterprise shuttle bay
“Everything ready mister Hendorff?”
He nodded to the captain, “Yes sir.”
The captain clapped him on the shoulder. “Good. We’ve locked on to a signal coming from the area where she was last seen. With any luck we’ll have her back soon.”
Hendorff almost smiled as he followed the captain into the shuttle and the door closed behind him. Settling in and strapping the harness on his mind wandered to the first day he’d met you on the ship.
You’d gotten hopelessly lost and been fifteen minutes late to your first shift. He’d planned on chewing you out for being late, but the moment you stepped in the door that changed. You’d been so flustered he just couldn’t do it. He’d watched out for you after that, helped you learn your way around the ship, made sure you had everything you needed.
“Sir the temperature on the planet dropped.”
Hendorff looked up at the captain. He rose out of his seat and leaned into the cockpit. “How much Lieutenant?”
“Sir, it’s already below freezing and the temperature is still dropping.”
The captain looked over the controls and reached for his comm. “Spock? Can you hear me?”
“We read you captain.”
“You seeing what we’re seeing down here?”
“it appears that we have arrived at the beginning of the planet’s winter cycle. The temperature will continue to drop significantly.”
“Tell Bones to prep for the worst case scenario and see if you can get a thermal scan of the surface.”
“Yes captain. Mister Scott is working on the scan as we speak.”
“Thank you Spock.”
Planetside
You’d curled up beside the rock hoping for just a little warmth but finding the rock to have completely cooled. Realizing that you should probably find something to eat and drink you stood to your feet and started down the hillside toward the last water source you’d seen. You guessed you should at least try and stay alive, not that anyone was looking for you. A little over halfway down the hillside your foot slipped on the damp ground and you went tumbling down into the water below.
“Shit!” You hissed as the cold water soaked through your uniform.
Shivering you stood to your feet and sat down on the ground at the edge of the water. The air was colder than you had thought. Gathering what water you could in your emergency pack you headed back up the hill. It was windier than you had thought too. Setting off for the treeline you gathered more supplies for your shelter and set to work trying to block out as much wind as you could.
Before long you started to lose the feeling in your fingers and you couldn’t stop shivering. Curling up in your little shelter you looked up at the bluegreen sky. “If you’re still up there…hurry.”
Galileo shuttle
They’d been flying around the area they’d beamed out of for several hours. The light was beginning to fade and they were running out of time. With the temperatures dropping well below freezing Doctor McCoy had told them if they didn’t find you within the next couple of hours it wouldn’t be a rescue anymore, it would be a recovery. As the shuttle moved on to the next grid the lieutenant turned to the captain.
“Sir, the interference is clearing.”
“Scan for lifesigns while we have a window. No telling how long it will last. We have to find her soon.”
“Sir, I’m reading sporadic lifesigns on the hillside up ahead.”
The captain leaned over the back of the chair and looked from the readout to the window. “Fly over and lets take a look.”
“Aye, Captain.” He steered the shuttle over toward the hillside, “Looks like some native animals sir, but….”
“What is it Lieutenant?”
“There’s something in the clearing at the top of the hill.”
Hendorff stood to his feet and looked out the front window. “That looks like a shelter of some kind. It must be her. Sir?”
The captain nodded and patted the lieutenant on the back. “Set her down.” He turned to Hendorff, “Let’s go get our girl.”
The shuttle landed a short distance away from the makeshift shelter and the captain led the way out into the cold. As they got closer Hendorff took off running toward the shelter. “Sir! She needs medical!” He dropped to his knees beside you and felt desperate to find a pulse.
The captain pulled out his comm, “Kirk to Enterprise, we found her!”
“How’s she look, Jim?”
“Not good Bones. Scotty?”
“Aye Captain?”
“Can you beam her up?”
“Aye Captain. The interference has cleared, I should be able to beam her up.”
He looked over at you. “Beam her straight to the medbay.”
“Captain? Are you sure about that? I’ve never…We’ve never…”
“Can you do it Scotty?”
“Aye, I think so.”
“Then do it!”
Hendorff stepped back as a golden light surrounded you and you vanished. All he could do was head back to the shuttle and wait. You were in Doctor McCoy’s hands.
Medbay
“Get me blankets, warm compresses, and help me get these wet clothes off her!”
Hands and bodies go flying as various nurses scurried off for the requested items while others started stripping the frozen clothes off of you. Hendorff watched silently from an out of the way corner of the medbay. He watched them carefully removing the clothes and wrapping blankets around you while placing the compresses on certain points. Once Leonard stepped back Hendorff walked over to him. “Is she going to be okay Doctor McCoy?”
He shook his head, “She’s got a long road ahead of her, but I think she’ll come around.”
The first day was the hardest. You were pale and cold as death. Hendorff could barely look at you. Doctor McCoy assured him that once they got your temp up that you at least stood a chance at a full recovery. Over the next few days Hendorff dropped in frequently to check on you and see how you were doing. Doctor McCoy let him sit with you as long as he stayed out of the way.
The first time you opened your eyes he was sitting there asleep. Doctor McCoy walked over and smiled. “It’s good to see you awake.” He said as he assessed your vitals.
Your eyes fell on the sleeping man in the chair behind him. He glanced over, “He’s been here everyday just to sit with you. He was really worried about you. We all were. You were in pretty bad shape when they found you. In fact you’re the first person I’ve ever had beamed directly to the medbay.”
You gave him a tiny smile and drifted off again.
The next time you woke he was sitting beside your bed reading something on a PADD. You groaned and he jumped to his feet. “You’re awake! Are you okay? How do you feel?”
“Go easy Lieutenant. She just woke up.”
He nodded, “Sorry Doctor.”
“Can you feel this?” the doctor asked taking your hand in his.
You nodded, “Yes.”
He smiled, “And I see you’ve found your voice. Just don’t try to talk too much.” Bending each of your fingers and flexing your wrist he watched for any indication of pain. “Doesn’t look like there’s any lasting nerve damage. I’ll let the two of you talk. Just promise you won’t overdo it.”
You smiled and nodded, “Thank you.”
He walked away and Hendorff hesitantly took your hand in his. “You really scared me you know. I thought I might lose you and I really don’t want to lose you.”
You smiled and lightly squeezed his hand as a tear slipped down your cheek. “Didn’t think anyone cared.”
“I care.”
