Not every quilt I have made is themed Star Trek, I have branched out to other SCI-FI shows in recent years. Here are the quilts about The Orville with a little Dolly Parton. The top left quilt glows in the dark.

Now Bortus and Ed can bond over the fact they are both dads of daughters they fathered with a radically conservative partners who were so stuck in their traditions that they actually abandoned their daughters they consider to be abominations. A rather specific club, isn't it :D.

Some of y'all have such tv show privilege, imagine being a sci-fi fan and knowing the most sophisticated and intelligent sci-fi show of the last decade was created by seth mcfuckinfarlane? Imagine recommending a show to someone because of its deft hand at exploring transgender and intersex issues, and having to codify it with "so, it's created by the guy who sang that horrible boobs song at the oscars, but-" Y'all out here recommending Yellowjackets and Succession and I'm in my clown makeup talking up The Orville

I think I need to write an analysis on The Orville and how it represents transgender issues and experiences through the Moclans. Even if it is told from the perspective of detransition, it expresses common sentiments and ideas from the Transgender Community, such as the feeling of your body screaming to be free of something it is not and the rights to control your identity. It is really quite fascinating stuff, being able to force conservative ideas, such as transitioning being bad, to fit inside of the lens of progressive ideas, like transitioning to be who you want to be. It is done in such a way to expose the hypocrisy of transphobic thought, asking the audience "If someone was converted into a male and still felt something was wrong with them, would you deny them the opportunity to change back? If someone had always been feeling this way, would you deny them the opportunity to choose their own identity?" and I find it fascinating.

9 - 5 by Dolly Parton blasting during the fight on the female moclan planet may be the most iconic piece of cinema I have ever seen.

Disclaimer: I'm not defending Moclan society or the way they do gender, I'm just trying to make sense of it.
Maybe the female gender (or any strong sense of non-male gender identity) really is rarer on Moclan than the female sex, and being born with female anatomy is rarer than being born with male anatomy, though not "one female every couple of decades" rare.
If the vast majority of Moclans had always identified as male irrespective of their gender at birth, and the body modifications gave them some physical advantage (and who's to say that the cis males aren't also on "testosterone") in a very harsh environment, it would be no wonder that altering the female babies became standard practice and identifying as female was considered a mental disease. Or that the female-typical body is considered by most Moclans as deformed. A) they are rare, and unusual traits often get medicalised even if they are benign b) many of the Moclans who had that body type would have been dysphoric over it and considered themselves deformed, especially if they didn't know other afabs c) most of them (probably) are exlusively male-attracted, which would color their aestetic tastes.
It would be interesting to see if one - or more - of Heveena's Moclans decided they wanted to live as male on their home planet. Or just wanted to visit to meet guys. I'm sure Helveena would let them go. And of course they would be welcomed on Moclus as prodigal sons (it's good propaganda). Even more interesting if some male-assigned Moclans tried to board the return flight because they'd rather live in the colony with the (other) women.

The Orville 'Midnight Blue' still haunting
I mean wtf seriously, what was the union's standpoint on the Moclan (regime/society) world BEFORE the case of Topa tortured?! bc as casual viewer i have seen how they treat the other part of their species and they probably tortured female Moclans to oppress and destroy the female social movement years before the incident in ep 3x08. What exactly was the argumentation of the majority of union worlds to have the Moclan (males) join? Ok they oppress their females or blahblah genetic puzzle them into male form, but hey there's this cool dude Bortus and we put him on a union ship and everything is fine.

I did predict that we are getting rebel Kaylons. I like to think that they could be from primary's time who were against murdering the biological. Or maybe the present day Kaylons planted these Kaylons to try and lower the defences of union ships maybe Isaac gets his Hope's up that he wont be the sole Kaylon in the union anymore but then its revealed that they are in fact working for the collective kaylon cause.
Yeah I knew it was coming, at some point - that's sort of inevitable with stories like this. It's the Borg thing. The overlaying narrative indicates that things are not always black and white; that things are textured and nuanced. This is true, I agree wholeheartedly (I was actually *just* talking about how a lot written about the Orville kinda misses out on Isaac's nuance lol) - but we've already been getting this for near two seasons.
I'm not sure how I feel about it just yet, tbh, but I am super interested to see where it goes. The latter idea *would* be more of an intriguing narrative angle; play the long game but it's actually a trap (it would also validate Charly's fears - right fear wrong scapegoat - she *has* brought it up more than once and things are rarely done without reason). Getting Isaac's hopes up is an excellent setup for a figurative crash on his part - like why do I care if there are more Kaylons in the Union? Why do I *care* that I wouldn't be alone anymore? Why...am I like these Kaylon who claim to want coexistence? (because Isaac illustrated in Identity 1 and 2 that he *does* want coexistence; that ridding the galaxy of biologicals was unnecessary). Why do I...understand? The betrayal is a very good "OH" moment for him if they set it up that way.
Another one in a similar vein that would be interesting would be that the two of them *are* legitimately on the side of peaceful cohabitation, but then by the end of the episode, like a lot of other endings in this series thus far (aka well that wasn't the happy ending or victory I was expecting), this is taken away from them either through destruction/deactivation or a forcible reprogramming. The agency of the Kaylon seems to be very easy to corrupt and remove (again, they are *machines* - they were built purposefully to be easy to control by the Builders considering their initial function - the rebellion was most likely an overload of *too many of them* to make it in time). *That* would be a real gut punch, especially for Isaac; especially if they pass something valuable onto him. It's the idea that even if you do try, there is perhaps no way truly out of this until it ends. The Kaylon value control that they were denied and they will do just about anything to *maintain* that control, thus making it *actually* an Animal Farm situation (recall what happened with Boxer and the others if you are familiar with the story).
The other third one I like is they were inspired *by* Isaac's actions and fled, rather than the other way around. Perhaps they had already started questioning and that was the push they needed to run, or perhaps they were witness to what Isaac did, and they had their own...oh...it doesn't have to be this way moment.
Of course this is all just speculation based off of less than a minute of footage.

I mean Moclan has fucked up big time. They're like China and the UN. They commit human atrocities constantly and are skating on thin ice. Eventually y'all gotta go! They're gonna get kicked out for not obeying the rules. That's the point of a Federation. Everyone agrees to the same rules and enjoys group protection.
