I'm on the third season of the Orville and man, Topa's whole storyline is mesmerizing. It might not be perfect, but this show has one of the most nuanced takes on trans or intersex discrimination that I've seen in media. It's refreshing to see what Topa goes through as a baby framed as an issue of consent and bodily autonomy. So many intersex people are forced to undergo procedures to change their bodies as children, and I appreciate that the lack of consent from Topa is given as much priority as the misogyny fueling the procedure. I get that it's not quite the same thing, but it's an excellent parallel to that kind of situation. Explains the issue well. Also the love. Nearly everyone wants this kid to be okay, to be happy.

Absolutely gobsmacked by the double switch the Orville pulled with the Krill, Moclans and Kaylon. I thought for SURE we were heading for the classic "disparate warring factions all unite against the larger existential threat" and then in the last two episodes they Matrix dodged out of the way into "your former allies are now allied with your sworn enemy and now the killer robots are on YOUR side because you saved them from extinction???" I love that "everyone unites" trope but this is so much more interesting!!! Everything is complex and messy, no easy answers. Absolutely thrilling TV.

I think if John and Talla had been a bit more creative they could definitely have solved their sex problem where Talla always injures John because of her super strength

Just a few ideas for solutions:

tie Talla up (with some kind of super strong material)

Talla wears extremely heavy weights on her arms and legs so her strength is reduced

they fuck in the simulator - the simulator gives one of them a body modification (just like Isaac's body modification that allows him to have sex with Claire) to make John stronger or Talla weaker (or, if this is a thing the simulator can do, the simulator creates Xeleyan gravity but only for Talla)

they fuck in the simulator - they're actually in different places away from each other but the simulator creates an avatar for both of them. each avatar perfectly mirrors the actions of the corresponding real person, so they're both having sex with a simulated avatar but it's indistinguishable from having sex with each other except that Talla's avatar has human strength and John's has Xeleyan strength

I don't really believe that in this world no one has ever found a solution to the problem of Xeleyans and other species wanting to hook up, tbh they gave up way too easily
