When you got off the train you looked down at your phone, pleasantly greeted with likes from your post with Rosaria.
You read over the comments and couldn't help but feel a smile paint itself over your face. You put your phone back into your jacket pocket and walked up the steps of the station.
You rode the escalator up to the surface pleasantly greeted by a beautiful orange sky. Hoping off the escalator you took a deep breath of the cool air, it stung but it felt good.
The streets of Mondstadt weren't as busy as liyue, they were quiet and peaceful, especially during the winter months. They were plastered with a light coat of snow and the trees that lined the street were letting go of their last leaves. On your way home you stopped at your favorite gas station to pick up some snacks.
The parking lot was empty besides a small beetle-bug car painted in a deep blue color, your eyes lit up when you realized your friend, Mona, was working the night shift.
You ran up to the door and pushed it open a warm breeze enveloping you in the process. As you scan around the convince store you spotted Mona at the counter, a smile plastering her face when she saw you.
The two of you dramatically ran to one another and hugged one another. "Ughh honey, you don't know how boring it is here." She said breaking the hug and holding your shoulders. "I can imagine," you said looking around the empty gas station.
It was certainly, dull, maybe a little creepy. The windows were painted with condensation from the contrast in temperature, making it nearly impossible to see outside. The only thing you could see from the outside was the l.e.d open sign. All accompanied by the faint sound of music heard playing over the speakers. It was something straight out of a horror game, you didn't know how she did it.
"Why do you even work here?" you asked mildly confused. There were plenty of jobs open at the mall during the day where she would get hired on the spot. "Because I prefer to work at night, there are no customers and it's the perfect time to study astrology," she said with a smile.
You never really understood astrology, you knew it was the study of space or something but some of the things mona did were closer to magic than science. For example, she often predicted the next songs on the radio before they even came on or, what kind of gifts you would get for your birthday.
Now, you could pass it off as a "coincidence" but this was next level. Mona even started a gig at school "reading people's fates," for a price of $5 per read. She even became what you could call a celebrity at school because of it, earning various nicknames. Star girl, physic girl, magic girl, but she liked being referred to as Mona megistus.
"Whatever makes you happy," you replied skeptical of her reasoning. She walked over to the counter as you simultaneously walked over to the snack aisle, chatting with her from across the small store. You studied the selection of snacks on the shelves and decided to go with those crumbly granola bars and some chips.
You heard a disappointed sigh come from behind the counter, you ignored it the first time but after 3 times you looked up to see Mona looking at you with puppy dog eyes. "What's wrong?" you questioned, you were confused considering she was just fine a minute ago. "I just wish you could stick around a little longer," she said looking at the ceiling, waiting for your response.
"I guess I could stay a bit longer," you said with a hint of hesitation in your tone. It was getting quite late and you had work tomorrow but, a few minutes of gossip could never hurt, right?
Wrong, you and Mona sat behind the counter and talked for hours, the neglected clock slowly ticking away in the background. Every once in a while a would customer walked in Mona took care of them while you waited patiently for her to finish. After a few customers came in you came up with a fun game to pass the time, after they would leave the two of you would rate each customer 1-10 based on looks and attitude.
Yes, it was a teeny bit immoral but you were tired, and it brought the two of you joy. "4 out of ten, He was wearing pumas." "A solid six, she needs to fix that walk.."
"7 out of ten, he's built a bus driver," You said with a giggle, Mona laughed along with you and soon your laughs filled the gas station. It was getting to that time of night when you were too tired to process anything correctly. Anything and everything was funny at this point, you were completely blissed out not a care in the world.
Your and Mona's shenanigans were interrupted when a young man entered the store. Both of your laughs went silent when the bell to the door rang well, they were muffled. You tried your hardest to suppress your giggles so it didn't look like you were laughing at him.
After he walked around for a moment you and Mona calmed down a bit and you finally got a look at him. He walked over to the coffee machine and started brewing himself a cup. All you could see was the way his hair sat on his shoulders, it was a light blonde color and messy a part of you wanted to walk up to him and fix it.
Your eyes were practically burning holes into the back of him you didn't notice you were staring until he looked up from the coffee machine and locked eyes with you. You quickly looked away, realizing that you may have been staring. The young man looked back at his existing project, you could see him look back down from the corner of your eye and couldn't help but occasionally shoot some glances at him.
He added a hefty amount of creamer to his coffee, turning it to a light mocha color as well as adding a couple of packets of sugar. You subconsciously memorized his coffee order, making a mental note of it for later. He gave it a good mix and attached a lid to the paper cup, walking over to the display of sweets under the checkout counter.
Since he was crouched down you couldn't see his face so, you leaned over the counter a bit hoping to get a better look at him. But, you were only greeted with blonde locks. You watched curiously as he scanned over the cookies specifically eventually grabbing the Snickerdoodle cookies.
You were so captivated by him that you didn't even hear Mona snickering in the background.
Without any warning, he popped out from under the sweets counter and you were met face-to-face with him. Being so close to his face was intimidating, you could get lost in his cerulean eyes, and his hair framed his face perfectly.
You quickly sat back down on your chair behind the counter while simultaneously mumbling a small "sorry." Mona walked up where you previously had been to check him out, giving you a "Nice job" look, in return just rolled your eyes at her teasing.
Mona used the scanner to check him out, you couldn't bring yourself to look at him again. She ran over the usual dialogue with him, "How's your night? where are
you coming from?" etc, etc. Before you knew it, she was saying her goodbyes. Your heart sank as you watched him walk out the door into the night, you realized this could be the last time you would see that pretty stranger.
Though, your temporary dismay was interrupted by your friend's speech. "Don't look so bleak you will see him again, just as fate foretold." You looked over at Mona with furrowed brows, you couldn't help but conclude that she read your mind. "Oh, Don't even look at me like that! if you didn't know already you're not too great at hiding your thoughts." She said with a small smile.
You couldn't help but blush a bit, being over-expressional had never been brought to your attention till now. You couldn't help but think of the countless times when your feelings might've been obvious, including a few moments ago. From his perspective, you probably looked like some stalker creep. That wasn't the case, you were just a little curious. Like when you see a hot celebrity, you know they're out of your league and you'll never have a chance but you can't help but stare.
"Plus anyone with a brain would see you staring," Mona added. "Oh whatever, it's not my fault he was... Cute," you hesitantly murmured. "Well, you can't deny that," Mona said with a shrug. "I wouldn't want to keep you waiting, I'm sure you have work tomorrow and I have to catch up with my studies." Your eyes widened at the thought. You had let the time fly right past you, you looked up at the clock and squinted to read the time it read 11:27.
No wonder he was getting coffee, it was almost 12! "Shitt! Your right, I'll see you soon!" You said while snatching your belongings off the counter and running out of the convince store. It was now completely dark outside and you could see stars scattered across the sky and the contrast of temperature from your breath and the cold left fog every time you breathed. It was cold, it was quiet and it was calm.
You put an earphone in and stuffed your phone in your pocket as started walking down the street on route to your home. Occasionally averting your gaze to look up at the sky in hopes of seeing a shooting star.
You eventually made it to your mother's apartment complex, it was sandwiched between other townhouses on the block and had a staircase leading up to the door. You didn't live in a bad neighborhood but, there was still a special key to get in, along with your house key. You fiddled around your pockets until you got your key ring out, accompanied by an unwanted napkin.
You couldn't help bit wonder why you had a random napkin in your pocket until you unraveled it to see a phone number written on it. The memory of Venti giving you his number came back and you felt a small smile form on your face. You jumbled your keys a bit, getting the wrong key twice before opening the door. You walked in and closed the door behind you making sure you heard the click*.
You couldn't help but feel a little bad about not calling Venti, he might think you don't like him or your ghosting him. You were going to text him then but it was too late he was probably sleeping. You stood there for a moment comtemplating on calling him and ultimately decided not to.
You walked up to the elevator and pressed the button for the third floor and walked in, leaning your head against the backing and closing your eyes. Yes, you were mere moments away from your bed but you couldnt help but lean into the wall a bit.
Everything after that was a blur, unlocking your door, checking on mom, sinking into the warm sheets of your bed. You were too tired to remember and too tired to care. Your last thoughts before drifting into sleep were the hoping you could be this comfortable for an eternity.
