your failteacher yuri AU is so so good. what's so frustrating about persona is that it has plenty of good ideas and characters that get absolutely wasted or mishandled by the actual narrative… like these two teachers. you write them with so much more respect than the games ever did. keep it up!
so as a general rule i don't tend to respond to this Genre of comment or really even enjoy it--as far as my own personal feelings r concerned, "you do [x] better than [source]" (in whatever ways it's phrased) is Not a compliment--but in this instance i gotta say it. they fucked up so bad and it makes me so madJDBHJJNSDB
so... just this once... i'll salute you... im at least glad people like my work and r enjoying a whiff of my beloved women without atlus sabotage ✊
i've said before that p3 hermit and p5 temperance are my favorite links--p5 temperance especially i think is really tight and has an interesting foundation. the actual narrative glue holding that thing together is strong. like the THING is that i don't have to go out of my way to find interesting and compelling material here (and i certainly don't have to make it up from whole cloth or anything)
i would hate for people to have the impression that i'm spinning this all out of nothing or that i hold the source In Contempt or whatever. obviously my concept/inciting incident is zany (haha) and i've added or tweaked a lot of smaller things to better facilitate this specific AU, but this story wouldn't have nearly the legs it does without the genuinely good material they put in those links, and i wouldn't bother making it at all if i didn't seriously love those characters...
...which i guess is kinda what makes it doubly frustrating... that in both cases they've just kind of stapled on some gross stuff that adds nothing (aside from ick factor of course) and doesn't fit with the rest... when "the rest" is genuinely compelling. not only is it a bad move on its own but also it drags down the otherwise good material around itself which is always annoying, yknow... like if it was Just All Bad i would at least be FREE 😭
anyway it's whatever it's whatever . i want to draw a chapter where they talk about their Deep Baggage sooo bad. and i can be like Look. Normal Hermit. Welcome To My Twisted Mind. Or Whatever

i feel bad about something -> i pick at my skin to relieve stress -> i get upset about the damage i just did to myself -> i keep picking because i don’t know how else to ‘fix’ the problem i just made -> i realize how much time ive wasted doing all of this -> i continue picking even after it becomes actually painful as ‘punishment’ -> i finally get tired and/or something else calls my attention and i stop, clean up, and attempt to move on with my day -> i feel bad about everything that just happened -> i continue to feel bad about this and everything that happens afterwards until i can’t take it anymore and need a release so i don’t implode -> rinse and repeat

my m*m used to be so evil to me growing up... i can only describe it to my younger siblings bc they weren't really there/were too young but my god she was so abusive lol it was me and my brother around that time and she was softer on my brother bc he's a boy and way more evil to me bc im a girl and the eldest and i remember having to walk on eggshells around her at any instance she could she would beat on us lol i remember
- spilling stuff on the floor (ACCIDENTALLY 🙄)
- ‘talking back’
- not wanting to go to dugsi or tuition
- wearing trousers lol
- expressing dislike
- etc
and this bitch was too damn strong one time she hit my brother and she had a ring on and his ear was bleeding al over the floor and she didnt even apologise
now that im thinking she's never apologised sincerely for anything 🤔 now she doesn't hit me bc i barely talk to her and am only agreeable bc im financially dependent lmao BUT thats changing now so im gonna start doing what i want.... we’ll see how that goes

VERY messy thoughts on arlecchino based on what we've learned from the unfinished comedy world quest.
i believe she is connected to the narzissenkreuz ordo or rene himself, and might be the result of an experiment to create neohumans.
while theres no confirmation that she's connected to narzissenkreuz both her and caterpillar having the same-ish blackened arms and being called a "wolf in sheep's clothing" are hints that she might be in a similar situation. plus i don't think it's a coincidence that arlecchino has kreuze (crosses) in her eyes.
similar to caterpillar, i think arlecchino might have been involved in soul transmigration.
Caterpillar: "The body is just a shell. Even the body of a hilichurl can bear sentient consciousness."
we're not sure yet what happened to caterpillar aka carter, but i suspect upon his death, rene transferred his original soul into the body of a hilichurl to give him a chance at rebirth. arlecchino could then also be a human who died (which her hand of glory constellation implies) but whose soul was transferred into an inhuman body. or it could even be the opposite: transferring the soul of some powerful being into the (possibly dead) body of a human.
she's the fourth harbinger, ranked just below those that have powers that rival gods, so if she can transform herself it's not going to be a hilichurl 💀 or an abyss lector. maybe something more akin to a dragon/oceanid or something.
however, another possibility for what happened to carter is that he turned into a hilichurl because of rene giving him elynas' blood. and rene simply found a way to partly reverse what happened to him. in that case, arlecchino could have been injected with abyssal blood but couldn't fully adapt to it hence the black arms.
if you look closer, aside from the necrosis, her arms have these strange kind of markings tattooed on them. maybe it's some kind of seal or... it might have been to perform a ritual...
Caterpillar: Narzissenkreuz (Rene) would lead ceremonies with the Holy Blade, in accordance with the ancient dictates. They call it "Tri-Factor Excision" in Liyue, and in Sumeru, "Shattering Atmagraha." He called it "Renunciation of the Ego."
there's also an unmarked enkanomiyan ruin on the map, where a treasure hoarder found someone trapped inside a barrier. initially i thought that might have been carter until we found out he was in prison all this time.
"Didn't find aught else but this arcane formation and the peculiar barriers around it, and after all that effort, too... There seems to be someone trapped inside the barriers... Can't tell if they are alive or not. Well, I'm not going back empty-handed, not after how far I've gone. That's just not my style..." (The remaining pages are filled with black stains, making the text unreadable.)
it's possible this could have just been the rifthounds but maybe this person was arlecchino.

surgery talk…
my first surgeon moved to TN. fail
so, i saw the hopkins doc and i will say he made a good case for himself.
he says that he does do the procedure differently but he does seem to definitely know what hes talking about lol, and i could schedule within the next few weeks… that’s a pretty good argument lol
he also seemed to disagree w a thing my surgeon did abt the vertical bridge lol
the lack of wait is tempting and he is well respected and hopkins had a live piano player in the lobby
basically like.
so as far as i can tell theres a couple different methods, the popular one is the hansen technique, (i got this one) which is new and has good results in terms of relieving pain but also can be a catastrophic failure. BUT, is reversible ish if it goes bad. its a newer procedure so theres very little data on it
this guy does (i think, i called to confirm) excisions and sutures, but if he excises my cartilage and it fails, thats IT, i cant reverse removal of cartilage . its an older surgery and so its less of a mystery but also doesnt 100% remove pain and can fail in a way that would be hard to resolve
Tumblr media
le sigh
other way around
so, i have the hansen 3.0 with a bio bridge, it holds my ribs together vertically
it was just invented in 2020 and it has amazing results but simply does not work for some people and it can go really bad — the doc said i was a bit of a guinea pig
because it’s so new frankly there hasnt been enough time to collect data on its failure rate long term . re: my cartilage, it seems some was reused and some cut out
on the other hand, the surgery this guy offers complete excision aaaand suturing i think, and whatever it is it’s an older surgery with WAY more data, so theres more info both good and bad. but once the cartilage is excised its gone for good, and apparently it will not fully make me pain free ig

BG3 is an all-timer
Tumblr media
Since 2017 I’ve been making more of an effort to play more games. Two have always sat at the top for me: Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild and Bloodborne. The first game to be added to these two since my Bloodborne fascination is Baldur’s Gate 3.
I’ll be sharing my thoughts and experiences on the game, spoilers will be below the cut.
Very few games conclude with me feeling like I’ve earned the adventure the game wants me to feel. Baldur’s Gate 3 is a whole ass adventure full of twists and turns, puzzles, combat, fantastic sound design, incredibly well written companions, a legendary soundtrack, and a full suite of antagonists to face off against. It is the widest game I’ve ever played with so many systems below the surface I stop seeing the inner workings of the clock and it appears to me as magic.
Baldur’s Gate 3 doesn’t do anything New per say, but what it does is incredible. Everything is bound together in story, everything becomes a piece of the whole and all of it works in concert in a way that enchants me unlike any game I’ve played before.
A playthru of Baldur’s Gate 3 is the hour equivalent of the entire Mass Effect trilogy.
We don’t get games like this often at all. They just don’t come around like this. If you have not played BG3 I cannot recommend it enough, it is incredible in every facet.
Tumblr media
In my playthru of Baller’s Gate 3 I made Jones the pal-adin, oath of the ancients.
Tumblr media
Dragonborn look so fucking good in this game. I romanced Karlach and was so taken by her personality that when we left to Avernus to fight together so she could live it brought me to tears.
All of the companions are top tier quality. All of them. I will say some have stronger storylines than others but all voice actors and writers are bringing their A games and I can recall incredible moments with all main six party members that endeared me to them:
Astarion: when I discovered his performative voice and his vulnerable voice and we held an entire intimate conversation in his vulnerable voice after all our companions went to sleep
Gale: when after all the game he approves of so many actions you take and is so quick to be your best friend/lover as you support him with his struggles with Mystra he triggers a Disapproves when you try to talk him out of ascending to godhood
Wyll: when after he declined to dance earlier in the game you catch him dancing about and he offers you to join, having a moonlit dance led by Wyll to an orchestra vers of the game’s main theme between just the two of you
Shadowheart: when I offered her to let her heart decide what was best with her parents and she chose to save them, shunning Shar’s teachings of Loss to excise Pain
Lae’zel: when after being saved from Orin in the Temple of Bhaal her demeanor shifted, using Faerûn customs to thank me and asking me “is something burdening you” whenever I talked to her in camp
Karlach: her anger over killing Gortash and how it fixes nothing for her, her pivot from I’ll never go back to Avernus to I want to live bc now she doesn’t have to go it alone 😭
What is incredible is the climax of each storyline of these characters hinges on your understanding of these characters and characters. If in 100hrs did you learn the people you travel with. And thats just the companions. Theres Halsin, Jaheira, and Minsc I was so entirely taken with. Then there’s NPC’s both allies and antagonists.
A lesson I learned from this game is make your antagonists HATE each other, this gives the players exploits that make the story thrilling. The antagonists in this game are incredible. Ketheric Thorm is my favorite of the chosen, when you ask him if he’s going to betray the other two chosen and he gives this resolved “Yes. Its going to happen. Everyone will die bc Myrkul is the only god who answered me. So I’ll be the best chosen he’s ever had”.
Orin and Gortash are excellent pinnacles of their deities and you’re given so many opportunities to interact with them beforehand letting you really get to know who you’re up against.
Raphael is also absolutely incredible. A devil in hell with the House of Hope who preys on the desperate offering contracts to be their savior while reaping all the benefits. Raphael, who watches your progress to let you get in over your head before striking with an incredibly juicy deal, and refusing to steal from him is an entire questline created from the player’s defiance and NOT from an NPC setting it up for you, AND his final fight has a disney villain song he sings. Holy shit is all the House of Hope stuff good.
But what really sets all the pieces of BG3 together is The Emperor. My roommate and I have had discussions for HOURS on his half truths and metered out information. When Ansur called me the Emperor’s thrall I FELT something. I felt played, betrayed by this character who reassured me they were my friend at all times bc I knew Ansur was RIGHT. I was being manipulated hardcore even if we had the same goals. This was NOT an even alliance. The emperor and his execution is one of the best characters I’ve ever seen in any video game.
And thats part of what BG3 does so well. Characters so rarely just spit out what they’re feeling. You have to listen and watch how they speak and interact with them as if they were a person. To me that’s the greatest triumph of BG3, I have to approach all the game’s characters like characters in a dnd session, like people. Its a really REALLY hard trick to pull.
Mechanically this game is a joy. The sound design is so chunky that all the actions and effects feel great to use. Respec’ing is easy and quick, and bc gear doesn’t upgrade you can respec and get back in the game instantly. It felt GOOD to deal 333 damage in the last round of combat with Huge Pal-adin Jones.
Tumblr media
Btw, Elixir of the Colossus and the Growth effect on the giantslayer stack.
The fights are executed so well with multiple allies and enemies, casters in almost every combat, lots of uneven terrain and hazards, and not every combat is a “combat”. Many endgame scenarios caused me to sit back and say “oh? So we’re gonna cheat huh? I’ll show you cheating”.
Theres also bits I learned here I’ll be applying to dnd. The Blood of Lathander is a great example. Its a +3 weapon on a subpar weapon die, a +3 1d6 mace is just a more consistent +1 longsword. And its undead boons don’t do much if there’s no undead around. And its 6th lvl spell only gets cast once per long rest. Its a great weapon that makes the player feel overpowered against undead without breaking the game.
And thats just thoughts from running a custom character. I’m on Dark Urge and co op playthru and I love how the Durge playthru is just a cursed version of a custom character playthru.
Tumblr media
I would be remiss to post my thoughts without mentioning The Bugs. This game has some major bugs that would have been a dealbreaker for me in a lesser game, but I’m willing to forgive BG3’s bugs bc of how much its trying to do. Some of them include:
Lae’zel T Posing on top of the altar she should be shackled to
The entire fireworks quest not working from guards always getting involved to fireball being thrown through two stories of wood floors and ceilings
The sound not working during the first final battle requiring a reload
Gale reprimanding me for taking a deal that had yet to be offered to me
Black boxes constantly flickering over Karlach’s campsite
There were more. And they did dampen my enjoyment of the later Act 3. However these are in the process of being fixed and with the game’s scale I’m willing to look past them. I will also say in its current state, 11/13/2023, the epilogue is far too short. Shadowheart didn’t even appear in mine. I’d at least like to know the fate of my main 6 party members, maybe more about the world after the ending. The ending is currently lacking for how well juiced the rest of the game is.
This is one of the best. Through and through. Its an experience thats left me changed, I truly feel I’ve gone on an adventure with my companions and we’ve gone through some intense trials and tribulations, faced down monsters and menaces, and played the big hero and saved the day. I cannot recommend the game enough, its a must play for anyone with capable hardware that can run it. Instead of a top two I now have a top three: Zelda Breath of the Wild, Bloodborne, and Baldur’s Gate 3.

Person on r/mushroom asked: “what is cloning/ how?”
MCX Answers:
Cloning is when you take a excision of inner stipe (you see the mushroom base and vertical growth part as a ‘stalk’, stipe is the word for it though heh); mushrooms are just mycelium in different presentations. If you kick the mushroom and it breaks apart each part has a chance to revert back to exploratory hyphae / mycelium (collections of hyphae) and colonize anew :) mushrooms are the last stage of the fungi that produce mushroom like fruiting bodies :)
—- cloning requires a scalpel, flame source, 70% isopropyl, gloves, sterilized agar in a petri dish or kcup or something else, a clean work space with no air flow if possible, and some creativity ;) best place to clone from imo is inner stipe or on the sub dermal layers of the cap from a dorsal view.
The reasoning is: when mushrooms form then start as knots then primoridia little baby forms then swell with water and exploding mycelial growth as they mature. The inner parts of the mushroom are relatively sterile conpared to the exterior mushroom flesh thats exposed to daily spores and microbes and such. This wont be true if theres a parasitic fungi or some other microbe or pest fucking with the mushroom but is good rule of thumb for cleanest ways to clone.
You then move the transfer from inner stipe, taking a rice sized bit, to agar plate and let it grow out. Youll likely get contam and need to run a few xfers to get a clean culture… but once u do u can theoretically spawn the cloned culture in your grow area and potentially reproduce that same mushroom inside but on your own substrate and within your own variable controls :)
you could also use nasal pharyngeal swabs to get spore swabs of the fruit to streak on agar and pull germinating colonies off of but thats not cloning (in that it produced random potential strains of that one fruiting body variety that all could have varying growth traits and such)
— spore work is much longer and indepth than cloning imo, but both are not easy to just jump into with a quick “clone it” xD

Oh I love when people take the metaphor of "losing pieces of yourself" in a somewhat literal context because it can create such gorgeous imagery. I liked the dash cosmic horror involved with Arceus as well as the more grounded idea of hastily patching an open wound. And the visual of then having to deal with it after like a back alley patch job. So wonderful. Do you have any more plans with this concept?
YEAH I LIKE IT TOO HSKJSH and yesss exactly re: the mixing of the cosmic/Higher Power aspects of arceus and the lake trio, combined with the extremely real & grounded imagery of being stabbed and bleeding through your shirt and then getting haphazardly sewn back up. theres just something about it.
i think everything involving arceus especially feels abstracted to the point of only being vaguely real—it's the backstage of the universe, occupied by a higher being that humans are barely capable of processing. it's mind-bending and holy and beautiful... and then it cuts a piece of your chest out with its fucking hoof. it's not even delicate about it, which would, at least, bring the two worlds together to the point of being sort of compatible. if it carefully and delicately excised that portion of your heart. but no, it just impales you, and leaves golden shrapnel embedded in your chest, and you're left there dripping blood on the pristine white tile. it's brutal and uncaring just as much as it is sacred. yknow, like a primal force of nature.
in terms of future plans... there's nothing solid rn but obviously there's a TON of potential in the idea of mental/spiritual fuckery being represented as physical violence. for that specific snippet, i think that the physical wound isn't necessarily visible in reality (though there might still be blood on the front and back of his shirt to mark where it was? i'm undecided) but there is some kind of Mark left on the skin. maybe red gemstone-like stitches to show where the lake trio tried to fix things. and then if he ever returns to a more metaphysical space (like, in dreams, or if the gods ever try to talk to him again) it'll still be there, since it's a wound still left on his soul.
additionally, wrt translating btwn mental/spiritual and physical, i think that ever trying to remember what he's forgotten is like picking at the healing wound. it's not good, is what i'm saying, and has the potential to do further damage. that's also part of what mesprit was concerned about, since in cutting the "ragged edges" off to stitch it closed, it was worried that they were just taking even more away. this all gets very conceptual very fast and i'm also rambling hkjhskjsh point is it's all very unfun for ingo there

OKAY im gonna talk about the thing in mask of the rose thats been consuming my thoughts. For people who might know the scene I'm talking about, it's something Ivy tells you, and the game keeps giving you options to stop the conversation because it is, genuinely, pretty disturbing. its got horror elements that have been in FL before, but never in this particular way, and as i said in my last post, seeing the content warnings will probably give away the broad strokes. im gonna put them in the tags, and hopefully if you have them filtered, then you wont see this at all? idk. i genuinely am sorry if you see this and didnt want to, but i have things i wanted to say about it
okay so in mask of the rose, Ivy gets really into doing Hallowmas stuff, accepting peoples confessions and secrets, and occasionally doing stuff to their memories (i think there was something in Zubmariner where theres a port made up of peoples regrets?? it might be connected to that, but i never played zumbariner. it might also be something Midnighter adjacent. or it might be its own thing!! i just dont know)
Ivy can tell you about a confession she received, which is incredibly disturbing. To make it quick: a womans child died, and times being hard as they are, she ate it. But then David returned from the dead fully intact, and everyone learned that death isnt permanent. Ivy had to remove this womans memory of what she'd done
like i said, while FL as a franchise has included (maybe too much?) cannibalism, and certainly a decent amount of child death, it's never been... like this before. it was disturbing in a way nothing else ever had been in any of the games
...so is it bad to say that i kinda liked it?
cannibalism has come up in fallen london often, but its usually kind of flippant about it imo. like, it's a thing that debauched rich people do sometimes, or starving zailors do, or deranged cultsits do, but not people like US. random women in london dont get that desperate!!! until they do.
and when cannibalism appears in the games, its usually written so... idk distantly? that i really never feel much of anything for it, except almost bored. most of the time when it shows up, im like "wow cannibalism. again. how original 🙄 pretty sure thats the only horrific twist fbg even knows exists". i dont think it's bad, the way its usually written. it's not like i even WANT ever lurid detail, and i think it would be pretty bad for me and for the writers to do that. but the side effect is that, for me personally anyway, it never really has the weight i think they probably want it to
but in mask of the rose? its a visual novel, so youre not given that same kind of distance you get in fallen london. it affected me in a way that other, similar horrific moments very much did not. I mean, i played all of seeking and i just thought it was boring for the most part!!!!
i also think it really gets at the horror of "you cant die in the neath". i mean, this woman did something horrible and taboo out of desperation, and then had to learn that it was also entirely unnecessary. she could have just waited! how could she possibly live with herself, having done this? but also she cant die! what option is there for her, other than to excise the memory entirely?
and also i think it emphasizes why cannibalism would be especially taboo and especially horrific in the neath. if death is rarely permanent, i would think defiling someones corpse would be seen as especially abhorrent
anyway. it was a moment of pure horror and i kind of liked that it was in the game. its a little tonally out of step with the rest of motr, tho, lol. but it kinda makes me wish theyd leaned more in on the horror of the fall. you as the player character want for very little, because you always have food and a place to sleep, and the Masters are (allegedly) organizing and distributing resources. but also... i mean clearly thats not benefitting everyone, and i think thats genuinely really interesting
.......... although i sure would like it if i could stop thinking about that scene lol. the game kept being like "you dont have to read this" and i did not listen. ain't that just the way!!!!

Excision
[October 13th, 2022]
First there is darkness. Then a spark. Memory and thought fold in on themselves around it, reducing complex patterns down to a single, sharp edge, cleaving reality from nonexistence.
Colin's eyes snap open.
He stares upwards, watching the metallic smoke coil on the ceiling. He can see Amara's worried face looking down at him, hear her voice asking if he can hear her. He tries to respond, but it comes out as a garbled mess; he never realized just how complex the muscles that control the mouth and throat were before this instant. The limbs are easier; extend, contract, extend, contract. He stands, bracing himself against the wall of the stairwell as he gets his bearings.
Something has changed inside him. There is a cold emptines where something vital has been lost. He can sense Amara stepping up behind him without looking. It would be so easy, he realizes, to simply reach out and take what he needs to fill it, but theres just enough of him left to refuse that thought. Not from her.
He's used to the movement now and it's easy to outpace her, taking the steps two at a time. As he aproaches the landing a crashing noise can be heard from behind him, the building collapsing further in on itself. He ignores it, along with Amara's worried calls. It's not... important now.
Reaching the front doors he pushes out into the cold evening air. Out there in the city he can sense them, thousands of little points of warmth and energy, going about their nightly business, living their tiny little lives. Any one of them can give him what he needs to quell the gnawing pit inside him. And none have any idea what's coming for them.

🦇= favourite horror movie?
🐺= favourite type of horror movie monster?
🧨= most shocking ending to a horror film?
⚰️= favourite horror trope/cliche?
🎥= can you recommend me a horror film?
omg its totally okay tysm this is so fun :) gonna leave the answers under here because i rambled so much hgdkjf
what horror movie scared you to death?
the most recent time was back in 2018 when i watched hereditary for the first and only time... so hereditary but it was mainly for emotional reasons that movie just cuts deep for me and makes me deeply sad and uncomfortable and it genuinely horrified me back then
who is the greatest horror movie badass bitch?
queen akasha from queen of the damned like i dont care.... its always been her for me i know theres many more and they popped into my head but shes soooo iconic and badass! another that came to mind was erin from youre next and ellen ripley from alien and laurie strode from halloween.. but id have to shoutout like 80 more badass horror women to feel satisfied right now so im gonna leave it at that <3
favorite horror movie?
i am constantly fighting myself on this one but i think its officially the lost boys :) im comfortable saying that no matter what because of the sheer amount of love i have for it and how many times ive seen it and the fact i own 3 copies of it on physical media now
favorite type of horror movie monster?
ohhh you know.... vampire forever and always <333
most shocking ending to a horror film?
okay im going to mention many again because i cant control myself everrr... so saw (2004) still hits... the others (2001).. a tale of two sisters (2003) and lake mungo (2008) < all kind of plot twist movies but theres also inside (2007), excision (2012), and audition (1999) which are endings you can mostly see coming or somewhat expect but arent any less shocking or upsetting!
favorite horror tropes/cliches?
oooh soo many honestly. gotta love tropes and cliches of a genre that is most beloved to you! im definitely going to leave some out because theres so many effective and great ones like an easy one could be the final girl or weird girl and another could be creepy music swelling to signify that something is about to go wrong or tricking you into being wary of that or the scare that you wait for but it never comes/the fake-out, fear of the unknown like things shrouded in darkness or things that arent visible to the naked eye or something, the "one last scare" trope where the killer or whoever comes back for one last scare, or the twist of "it was actually this other thing/situation all along!"which isnt always effective or interesting but great when it is and is original... but a few lesser known or used fun ones im thinking of are weird/creepy/fucked up twins, losing a limb and replacing it with some kind of weapon, also technology is the mind killer and will actually kill you!
can you recommend me a horror film?
bliss (2019) or the pit and the pendulum (1961) or black sunday (1960) or phantom of the paradise (1974) ^_^ hopefully theres one in there you havent seen hehe
