( ♡ ) ty honestly sm for encouraging me to talk abt them bc it's all in my drafts but i'm just . . soso shy ( if you could believe it ehe ; ) so it really means a lot to me ! i'm v grateful i get to speak my silly nonsense eek >_< their first date was . . it was a ' date ' but it wasn't ? this is prob a good time to explain why they're ' working together ' ig for context purposes ! ( i'll prob compile this all into a post at some point actually )

although he has a lot of information on mega evolution in regards to battle , he doesn’t have a lot in the way of contests

pokemon aren’t affected by any external factors like attacks or status conditions when performing , but they’re still expending a good amount of energy with the use of moves

so , as someone that’s very invested in the subject , his research and the bond between pokemon and trainer - this information would be valuable to compare and contrast with his current findings

he doesn’t really know anybody in the contest scene? there’s serena, of course, but she’s also currently undertaking the gym challenge and being one of his pupils it doesn’t feel right to stick this kid with even more work considering she’s a dex holder so mariannes his best bet , even though they're only acquainted at the time they share a mutual acquaintance in serena at least . it's mutually beneficial in a sense , if marianne can't use mega then she's going to be at a disadvantage in the contest circuit ( i hc that contests are similar to ORAS in kalos hehe ) her ' job ' would be to monitor the behavioural changes in her pokemon after rehearsals and performances as well as their general health and wellbeing . there'd be weekly or biweekly ' check ups ' at the lab for more thorough analysis but these ' reports ' are more casual to fit both their schedules also , it's a good excuse to go out for him to go out for coffee considering he's so busy . but they're not dates , don't be silly . . . ( /hj he doesn't intend it to be . . but . . ) anway ! to actually answer your question now ( i'm soso sorry i can talk for aages they live in my head rent free 24/7 ; ) once he proposes this to her at the lab ( it's like on a weekend so nobody's there ) and gives her a list of pokemon that can mega she notices the only one that can is benched because of her accident in the unova circuit reasons and she goes ' umm , i don't really have any on this list at the moment ' and augustine is kind of stumped because this meeting is now way shorter than he expected it to be so he goes ' oh , that's ok . . well let's go out for coffee instead ' ( not those exact words ofc ) because

a.) she's not super familiar with lumiose and having a kind of ' guide ' might be helpful

b.) atp he knows she's a bit of a reserved person and the few times they've met he hasn't seen her with any friends so that's mildly concerning

c.) if they're eventually going to work together he should know her a bit better and

d.) she's piqued his curiosity honestly marianne's very bad at saying no especially on the spot so as nervous as this makes her she agrees , for similar reasons too . this person's offering her an advantage in her career so it'd be rude to say no , wouldn't it ? so they go to soleil ( because taking a shy girl to your best friends cafe on your first outing seems like a really bad idea ) and he offers to pay and she protests and there's that cliche back and forth about who's going to pay that makes the barista a bit ticked off ( people pleasers , the both of them ) and it takes her a bit to open up but he's genuinely enthused when it comes to learning about people . so eventually she does crack a little bit , especially when the topic of coffee comes up . she used to be a barista in castelia and coffee is his passion so that's their jumping off point . after that they both surprise each other with just how similar they are ! they talk about their thoughts on self expression ( he asks about her career ) and just how important it is and their energy just gels . they end up almost gushing to each other about their thoughts and beliefs , which is something she hasn't done in ages since she's been alone for quite a while so it makes her so so happy . he didn't expect this to come out of someone like her and she didn't expect someone primarily invested in research to share her beliefs and ideas . afterwards she feels bad that she's talked primarily about herself but still . . . it feels good and honestly ? that's kind of exactly what he was hoping for and he's pretty happy himself . they both are ig , more than they'd thought they would ! she definitely goes home and screams into a pillow about how embarrasing she was tho ehhehehe

This keeps living rent free in my head and I’m angry about it So my dad called this week to thank me for sending him his birthday gift ANd out of nowhere at the end of the call he said “you girls need to realize it’s time to move back home to michigan”

Wtf

First of all I absolutely hate it when they call us “the girls” its infantilizing, misgendering, and its a cop out so they don’t have to recognize/addresss the queerness of our relationship they can think of us (& talk about us to their friends) like were some kind of roomates, friends, or sisters. Second - they now live in florida 8 months of the year.

Third - we’re fucking adults both in our 30s who have always wanted to live out here in the PNW - and have been saving up and changing jobs to make it happen over the past 10 years. And we did it!! This has always been the goal & we couldn’t be happier with our decision.

So for the first time ever- I actually said what I wanted to say- usually I don’t think of a comeback until days later- But this time I said “We absolutely love it here- And we’re going to stay as long as we want.”

And he said- well we’ll see when we visit you this May.

So if you know anything about my parents- they are known to spend an entire vacation/weekend/trip together & then attack on the last day. They plan out in advance whose going to say what- usually it’s manipulative, abusive, and cruel. and it’s designed to catch me off guard so I don’t have time to think of a response- all I feel is hopeless and defeated. and then that’s it- they’ve said their piece & never want the topic brought up again. Meanwhile I’m stuck with all the truly awful things they've hurled at me. So that little comment he made- that means he and my mom have been planning on attacking. Their entire purpose for coming to visit is to insult everything about where we live (which is normal - they have always done that- especially if we say we like something they will go out of their way to talk about how horrible it is- trying to poison it for us. ) idk what to do- they want to stay for a month. They want to drive out here rent a place and stay for a month apparently planning on beating us down the entire time trying to get us to move back to a horrible and conservative state that they and none of our other family members don’t even live in anymore I told my wife- and she said not to worry about it. We’d figure it out if/when it happens. But this is exactly what they always do- and especially now with me changing my name & coming out as genderfluid (even though they have told me they have no idea what that means and don’t want to know what it means) All my warning alarms are going off.

12) Is there an episode above all others that inspires you just a little bit more?

Not quite sure what the list means by 'episode', so I'm gonna assume it means 'chapter'…and honestly…I'm gonna be a real cop out and say that it's whichever the latest chapter I've written for 'relinquish the crown' is. I have a 'broad strokes' outline of where I want the story to go, and with every chapter that I finish the world and the story start falling into place piece by piece and I cant wait for the day I get to take a few steps back and see their story all laid out before me 💖

20) Describe your perfect writing conditions.

(I love this question so much omg) okay let's see…all my housework finished for the day/weekend, mood lighting on in my bedroom, huddled into a blanket. the music either being the writing music playlist i've put together on Spotify, or the entire discography of Cigarettes After Sex. hot coffee on the desk (or sometimes when i'm writing smut…a glass of wine). bonus points if the weather's a little dark and cloudy with a slight rainfall

29) If you could write the sequel (or prequel) to any fic out there not written by yourself, which would you choose?

Ooooh…if I could, it'd probably be a tie between two stories that've lived in my head rent free since my lurker era whew-- Her by @mochie85 where now that Loki knows that the woman in the simulation is real, now we get to see him attempt to court her and eventually get her to agree to go on a date with him. The Pleasure of Which We're Already Accused by @give-me-a-moose where now that they've been reunited, they have to navigate their lives as a couple (potentially a long distance relationship because she lives in Asgard and Loki's sentenced to Midgard), and ultimately she decides to move to Midgard and be with Loki 💖💛

Have you seen the French Dispatch yet? If you haven´t just stop reading and forget this ask. If you have ... are you just as disappointed with herb´s 5 minute screen time as i am? i mean i knew it was a small part but that small? that little baby deserved more

Thank you for the ask and apologies for the v late reply anon, idk if you saw the post I made when you originally sent this but wanted to wait until after wide release before mentioning anything about his screen time. The official answers are that I finally had time to watch last weekend and wasn't surprised but BEYOND disappointed because I love him and he deserves the world :(

(Feel free to stop reading at this point because I'm about to ramble waaaay too much about love of my life Herbsaint Sazerac to the point that this is going behind a read more since there's a whole damn essay coming y'alls way right down to how charming his cute dumb socks are and yes he could leave them on 😔)

SO I'd actually heard about all his scenes / screen time right before the release so going in knowing what to expect helped but even then disappointed's a major understatement :(

Tbh considering the size of the cast and the fact that his roles in Wes movies clearly aren't ever going to be what they were I wasn't expecting more than 10-15 minutes tops but it did feel like a waste of a character with limitless potential, y'know? Not to mention Owen being so prominent in all the trailers and promo...

I guess for me the real letdown was expecting Herb's (hadn't thought of calling him that and LOVE it so thank you again anon 😂) contributions to be scattered more throughout the film rather than basically all at the start and therefore involving a little more interaction outside the newspaper office which was sort of a selfish wish just because Herb's unique, utterly beautiful, and Owen has chemistry working with everyone which is just plain fun to watch ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Maybe I just wanted more Herb scenes to look forward to but the genuine feeling overall was that the film was a fun watch but would've flowed better as a look at a typical, everyday print that happened to have those three stories simultaneously going on around town in between his travel interludes. Keep the opening as is then add in bonus intros to each new plot. Idk, say maybe before part 2 he's meandering around town talking about something lovely but mundane then swerves to avoid some protestors which segues into Revisions to a Manifesto, etc. Eventually the staff gathers and each of them think they've obviously got the lead story except Herb who's cool chilling out in his own world slightly perplexed there was so much going on around town that day or something.

Then you have throwaway lines like how he hates flowers which for whatever reason lives in my head rent free, somehow the character has soooooo much style / depth for the little content we got which makes the low screen time hurt that much more because he could easily carry a whole film. Look at that soft travel bb give him a series of specials asap and let him tour the world 🥰 Everything about him's immediately distinctive from the outfit (those socks AND the beret??? okay icon go on) to his approach around town and the fact that this is the only character Owen's played in a Wes movie that doesn't jump to please people or lean into a more social disposition which I'm choosing to look at as kind of an acknowledgement Owen's been looking for a fresh take on a lot of his recent roles (like his approach to Mobius) and that their irl creative partnership is currently in a similar form of maybe not necessarily being on the same page, kind of begrudgingly so, but there's still respect and appreciation to continue collabs however limited 🙃

(This is already the online equivalent of me talking nonstop for a year or something so giving it a rest but please know I could easily keep going 😂😂)
