Richard the Lionhearted as written by James Goldman is literally one of THE characters that specifically hit all my buttons for various reasons
First being royalty, the intricacies of which I cannot resist. Secondly being a momma's boy which has got him into incredibly dangerous psychosexual territories which is MYYYY beloved type of character, it's the one I write the most. Being an heir is also a major theme in most 0f my writing. But he's such a reversion of all the stereotypes... he's a brute he's determined he's power hungry and blood thirsty and the thing that fucks him isn't even that he's stupid or trusting it is that the intensity of his own feeling is so genuine and overwhelming that truth is and becomes whatever he has in front of him every time. A man so utterly clawing and fighting for everything that he wants that when he gets completely degraded and gutted to hurt everyone around him his lament is towards how their love couldn't have been a lie.
He's the only one fit to be a king out of all of them and yet he gives Henry tenfold reasons to detest him, PURPOSEFULLY, and STILL fights and kicks and even acts like a child before ever giving up the crown. And when he's faced with death he doesn't flinch. It just makes me insane if I was Eleanor or Alais or Philip I could NOT have stayed strong I would have tried Eloping immediately
