A small selection from YouTube channel Xenophobia1961, dedicated to obscure Japanese contemporary and experimental music from the 1960s to the '80s. Some truly great, radical music in there.
These YouTube videos are usually excerpts from longer LPs, though some 7in singles are given in full. Most have never been reissued or even compiled, as far as I can tell.
The details for these records being usually in Japanese, I'm providing the little information I have in English, with the help from Google Translate and Discogs, and possible errors from my own misunderstanding.

Lungo la via
(Ascoltando Toshiya Sukegawa, Bioçic Music – Astrology, 1993.) Scrivo, per raccontare di questo viaggio. Viaggio che percorro. Senza correre però, io lo cammino. Da tempo ormai. E sempre in movimento. Sempre in cammino.

Primer Dispatch 2
Hey, what's up? I'm sitting here getting ready to play "Balan Wonderworld"-- I was eager to post this after having a good time talking about music a lot last night. I want to talk about ambient music and also Kraeyshawn and Oliver Tree kinda? I also want to mention Casiotone for the Painfully Alone ASAP, and MacPlus aka Vektroid aka Rara aka REDACTED. So I had forgotten about it but there is this amazing ambient-techno crossover ish album from the early 90's called Skies in the Mirror by Cabaret Du Ciel from Italy. There are more than a few excellent ambient cassette tape labels from the early 80's to early 90's, specifically: New World Cassettes, Valley Of The Sun, Great American Audio Corp, and the smaller Mu-Psych and Ionisation Tapes, the lattermost of which is where mostly only a few Cabaret Du Ciel albums were released. They are like Excepter or Gang Gang Dance but 25 years earlier. Mu-Psych, on the other hand, housed a wider variety of artists and an only slightly larger discography. Elysian Fields by Rocco Notte & Richard Bush seems to be the first Mu-Psych release from '85 and it is hard to find even in mp3 form but it is amazing from what I have heard. Other notable releases from the genre of New Age and/or Japanese ambient might include almost anything by Hiroshi Yoshimura or Fumio Miyashita or Toshiya Sukegawa, or the YMO boys (Ryuichi Sakamoto's not as ambient stuff has to be linked below). I want to give credit to non-Japanese artists too as this is not the only place ambient music comes from. Black Brunswicker is a newer band from the UK, Frog of Earth is a (also newer) more plunderphonics (see: dry sounds) ambient band from Ireland, K. Leimer is from the 80's and pretty important to me (think Ziereeka by Flaming Lips but earlier). And these old tape labels have people like Michael Wehr and Dick Sutphen who was the label head of Valley Of The Sun and a wacky guy who believed in sound healing, RIP. Queue Constance Demby
Oliver Tree and Kraeyshawn and all that other shit will have to wait until next week, did not realize how much I love ambient music right now.
