Sailor Moon Rewatch Week 5 (January 29-February 4)
013: Girls Unite: The End of Jadeite
Tumblr media
Girls rule, Jadeite drools! This, apparently, is the unfavourable impression Jadeite has left on Queen Beryl after his repeated losses to the Sailor Guardians. Beryl has given him one last chance to prove himself by taking them down, and his desperation is plane to see.
014: A New Enemy Appears: Nephrite's Evil Crest
Tumblr media
Have you ever been shocked to learn your bestie has a sibling and you had NO idea? Well, Naru and rising tennis star Rui Saionji might not be real sisters, but Naru has still known her long enough to confide in Usagi about her sudden personality shift. Rui’s become mean, aggressive, and cold, but the only difference seems to be her hunky new tennis coach… enigmatic businessman Masato Sanjouin.
015: Usagi's Panic: Rei's First Date
Tumblr media
A gorgeous waterfront Juuban park is scheduled for demolition. What’s a girl to do? Sign a petition? Start a campaign? Uh, no - line up one last first date on the lake before it’s filled in with concrete, obviously. Rei has finangled herself a “date” with oblivious hottie Mamoru Chiba, and Usagi’s not jealous at all, no way, uh-uh. Meanwhile, that park caretaker ain’t right.
016: A Girl's Dream: Usagi Becomes a Bride
Tumblr media
The whole of Usagi’s class is abuzz with the news of mild-mannered sewing teacher Higure Akiyama’s engagement. It’s so romantic! And Ms. Akiyama seems a shoo-in to win a local venue’s homemade wedding dress contest - to Usagi & Rei’s disappointment - but why has she suddenly called off the wedding?? Does it have anything to do with Mr. Sanjouin? Sailor Moon simply has no choice but to don a huge frock and find out.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around how the writers came up with Rei and Mamo Dating sub plot...
If you look at the Sailor Moon Chronology when Sailor Moon Episode 15 hit , the manga was only at five acts. Manga Acts Bolded
Act 1 Usagi - Sailor Moon 2/6/1992
Act 2 Ami - Sailor Mercury 3/6/1992
01 The Crybaby Usagi's Beautiful Transformation 3/7/1992
02 Punishment Awaits: the House of Fortune Is the Monster Mansion 3/14/1992
003 The Mysterious Sleeping Sickness: Protect the Girls in Love 3/21/1992
004 Learn How to Be Skinny from Usagi 3/28/1992
04 The Ambition of Petite Pandora 4/6/1992
03 Rei - Sailor Mars 4/6/1992
005 Scent of a Monster: Chanela Will Steal Your Love 4/11/1992
006 Protect the Melody of Love: Usagi Plays Cupid 4/18/1992
007 Usagi Learns Her Lesson: Becoming a Star Is Hard Work 4/25/1992
8 The Girl Genius Is a Monster: The Brainwashing Cram School of Horror 5/2/1992
04 Masquerade - Masquerade Ball 5/6/1992
009 Usagi's Disaster: Beware of the Clock of Confusion 5/9/1992
010 The Cursed Bus: Enter Mars, the Guardian of Fire 5/16/1992
011 Usagi vs. Rei: Nightmare in Dream Land 5/23/1992
012 I Want a Boyfriend: The Luxury Cruise Ship Is a Trap 5/30/1992
05 Makoto - Sailor Jupiter 6/6/1992
013 Girls Unite: The End of Jadeite 6/6/1992
014 A New Enemy Appears: Nephrite's Evil Crest 6/13/1992
015 Usagi's Panic: Rei's First Date 6/20/1992
Osa P told them not to go ahead of the manga which ok cool.
In all four of those acts, Mamoru pretty much interacted with Usagi either rather they are as Mamo/Usa or Moon/Mask.
Like I said earlier " he only two people Mamo interacted with is Usagi which is 99% of time and then Luna when Luna confronted him at the end of act 4 at the D Ball."
He has zero interaction with no other senshi aka Ami, Rei or Mako since she came in act five.
Naoko is HEAVLY setting up romantic tension between Mamoru and Usagi big time even if at this time she was thinking about doing only one arc.
So how the hell we just going to write a date plotline for two characters who don't even say two words to each other in the source material?
But totally have the two people that the author is really setting up romantic tension for act like two kindergartens in a sandbox. That may like each other but time will tell.
Then when the reveal comes that they are romantic lovers in that past, it does feel like they are together becasue of destiny because they didn't put the romantic tension the OG author put in her manga...
Rei and Mamo dating sub plot is fanfiction. The 90's anime really did create their own rarepair with Rei and Mamo... Two characters with zero interaction in a source material end up dating for a min even tho one of them doesn't seem interested.
Because look at this
Episode 11 Rei having a crush on Mask
Episode 15 She suddenly is interested in Mamoru becasue a park is being torned down and she want a boyfriend to take to that park before it get takes down so Mamo is perfect choice. In which she stalks him down, stalks Motoki for info about Mamoru ( which I still got to give the 90's anime for making Mamo and Motoki fans and having interactions since he doesn't even interact with Motoki until Volume two in the manga which he's Endo aka Evil Endymion.)
Episode 19 Going on dates here and there with Mamoru but was getting upset with Usagi because she supposed to go on a date with Tuxedo Mask even tho it was just Nephrite writing a letter to every girl as TM trying to lure Sailor Moon out. Because she wanted her date with TM but she supposed be on and off dating Mamoru...
Like HOW!!
Then I said this a while back but I'm going to put this in the mix
I found out a while back that Yuuichirou was an 90′s anime only character which supposed be Rei’s potential love interest since he’s first introduced in episode 30 was that he instantly fell in love with her...
A good 90's anime only character but one that they really could have done more with then what they did. Especially in the later seasons because they didn't unitized him enough.
I really believe they created because they found out Mamo and Usagi supposed to be together ( even tho like I said earlier Naoko was hinting it big time but I digress) and they made the biggest mistake by having Rei "liking" him and shooting her shot..
So they decided to gave her another love interest that never did really to much with them in terms of their relationship to get out the pickle they created??
Lets go back to Sailor Moon Chronology
Episode 15 -The first episode Rei and Mamo went on a date- 7/14/1992
Act 6 Tuxedo Mask- 7/6/1992
Act 7  Mamoru Chiba - 8/6/1992
Episode 25 Jupiter, the Powerful Girl in Love 9/5/1992
Act 8 Minako - Sailor V 9/6/1992
Act 9 Princess  10/6/1992
Episode 28 The Painting Episode 10/17/1992
Episode 30 Yuuichirou First Episode 10/31/1992
Act 10 The Moon 11/6/1992
Clocks out right and also why they start to interaction with Usagi and Mamo.
I mean it’s really weird that after act 9 drop where you find out that Usagi and Mamo was Endymion and Serenity that you have the Printing episode that shows them being cordial to each other for a full episode and Yuuichirou appearing being in love with Rei....
See this is what happens when you are doing a show while the manga is being written... Toei you should have waited bottom line.
So they created this character who had so much potenial to be such a good character in order to be “damage control” for a sub arc they should have never created.
Which they really didn’t do to much with the character  afterwards in which he was in a few episodes here and there as the series permitted.
Since could have been great character development for Rei due to the fact it could bought up her distrust in men and the fact he was from a wealthy family in which they could tie in that her Politian dad may have known.
HUGE HUGE SIDE NOTE ON MY LAST POINT THAT I WROTE A WHILE BACK :
CASABLANCA MEMORY DID NOT COME OUT UNTIL SEPT OF 1993
Which Naoko was halfway into Black Moon Arc when Rei Story came out.

So, this is to my guest reviewer who got so offended that I mentioned drag queens in Would You Like To Date My Friend, Chiba Mamoru? that they felt compelled to write me a long review about how much I wasted their time and should not bring my worldviews into my writing.
So… here! Have some more drag queens! :D
-
“Are we really sure this is… necessary?” Mamoru mumbled, eyeing the duct tape warily.
Usagi wasn’t helping. She looked more unsure than he did. And frankly, that wasn’t very reassuring given the fact that she was about to duct tape his newly shaven dick up his ass.
“Don’t be such a baby,” Minako said from behind the paravent. “You gotta look authentic!”
“Right,” he sighed, spread his thighs apart a little wider with a flush, and nodded for Usagi to start.
Unsurprisingly, duct tape on your junk hurt. He winced immediately,
“Sorry, sorry, sorryyyy,” she cried, but never stopped with the tape.
Yup. He was now pretty grateful Minako had insisted on that full-body wax for him.
He closed his eyes and just let her do it, even when she knelt in front of him and looked at his junk and the tape as if it were the most complicated of all IKEA furniture she’d ever have to put together.
“How’s this even supposed to…” she mumbled in frustration.
“He’s supposed to look flat,” came the very helpful remark from the other side.
“Duh.” Mamoru and Usagi rolled their eyes in perfect synchronization, before he winced again, hissing through his teeth.
“Sorryyyy!”
“Ok, so,” Makoto’s voice this time. “You’re supposed to like, tuck them back up.”
“Back up?!” Usagi said, eyeing his testicles varily.
Mamoru’s eyebrows jumped to his hairline in spontaneous panic.
“Like, there’s supposed to be this little pocket? Where they came from? You’re supposed to shove them back in, or up, and the dick is supposed to go like, all the way back to the ass crack.”
“Where are you reading this from?” he asked, trying to not sound panicked.
“WikiHow!”
Uh…
He looked down at his fiancée wide-eyed, who wasn’t looking back much better.
Shaking his head though, he grabbed downstairs, deciding to take matters into his own hand after all and quite literally, and subsequently tried to shove it all up himself - and actually, yeah… kind of? A pocket??
He nodded down towards her and yuppp, tape down there really, really hurt.
He wasn’t looking forward to taking that back off. Really, he wasn’t.
What he didn’t do for the mission…
“Right,” Usagi announced, quite proudly. “He’s flat now!”
A cheer from the other side of the paravent, and then a hipster slip thrown over the side of it that he quickly stepped into. And with that, he supposed his paravent privacy rights were over, because it was shoved away, and he was handed a pair of shiny see-through black tights and a black bra.
“Here’s your boobs,” Minako said with a wink, and handed him a pair of silicone pads.
He sighed long and hard, even when Usagi was already grabbing them from him and stuffing them into his bra.
“Is this really–” he tried again.
“Of course it’s necessary!” Minako interrupted him, then motioned for him to sit on the stool before her vanity.
He really didn’t like the look of that glue she held up.
“Sit!” she ordered.
He did, but eyed her suspiciously.
“Oh c’mon!” Minako groused. “Trust me a little! I got you!”
He sighed, and closed his eyes, and felt Minako attack his eyebrows with glue. To better camouflage them away with make-up, she later explained, and paint him new ones.
“Ok so,” Ami said from the side of Minako’s bed, detangling some cables to stick into her impromptu equipment. “Once you’re inside, scout the perimeter. If you wear your mic and earpiece, I have you on monitor the whole time. Try to track anything even remotely suspicious.”
“Right,” he mumbled, eyes back open. Minako was dabbing his face in nude colored make-up and it felt like she was painting him a new one.
“Full contour?” Rei asked next to her.
“Of course!” she mumbled, took a new brush, a new color, and wiped at his cheekbones.
“We’ll be in the audience the whole time,” Ami continued. “The second you notice something that looks like the attack, or a portal, or a weapon, or anything, one of us transforms and will be right with you.”
“A weapon?!” Usagi shrieked.
“And try to keep close to the other Queens, protect them. Try to take the hit for them if worst comes to worst.”
“WHAT?!” Usagi bellowed.
But he nodded. “Right,” he said, at the same time as Rei who rolled her eyes at Usagi and barked a, “Give him some credit, will you? He can take it!”
That was the whole reason they were doing this, after all. Someone had been threatening the local queer community for a while, and after ‘only’ hate speech in the mail, started making serious threats especially to the little drag theater they were trying to protect tonight. And since the last attack had been supernatural in nature, and this one was almost a sure bet, the local police had contacted the Senshi and asked for their assistance.
It had been Minako’s idea of course. That their best shot was to have someone undercover in the show who tries to take the brunt of the attack.
Usagi had been first to volunteer - use the Luna Pen, turn herself into a Beautiful Drag Queen. Mamoru had been first to protest and volunteer as tribute in her stead.
He wasn’t letting any more crazy people try and blow up his girlfriend.
Everyone had agreed (except Usagi.)
Minako was glueing fake eyelashes on him when Rei spoke up again, tapping her finger to her chin as she watched Minako work.
“We need a good drag name for you,” she mumbled thoughtfully.
“Mamoko!” Usagi cried from her perch on the floor right beside his stool.
He smiled - the others rolled their eyes.
“That’s not a drag name,” Rei shot in her direction with that ’are you daft, again?’ inflection to her voice, dismissing her.
“Princess Flower?” Makoto suggested. “Rosa Mask? Rosa Tux? Golden Thorne?”
“Domina Masque?” Ami threw in with a shrug, and Mamoru threw her an offended look.
“Ooooh!” Minako cried. “I like it! We gotta get you a mask!”
He sighed long and hard - but was tutted for it - Minako was working on his lips.
“Here I got your butt!” Makoto said, holding up the newly finished spanks with foam hot-glued in it.
He sighed even harder.
It was when Minako was done with the make-up, and the girls had tucked him into the sparkly red and crazy short sequin dress and zipped him up, that he was starting to not recognize himself in the mirror anymore.
“Damn, girl,” Makoto whistled. “What do you need these legs for?! Why are you so skinny?”
He blushed immediately, looking down at himself.
Minako dabbed some powder to his cheeks, looking pleased, then pulled a nylon net over his head.
“You’re really good at this,” he mumbled thoughtfully.
“Thanks!” she beamed, then winked. “Finally some trust!”
“I wouldn’t go so far,” he chuckled.
She threw him a pointed look, but a smile was dancing over her lips, and she tucked all his hair into the net, then took a razor to his sideburns and the back of his neck. He didn’t even stiffen anymore.
“Just think of me as your mother tonight!” she beamed.
Rei dramatically rolled her eyes. “Minako, you are not a Drag Queen. You don’t get to be his drag mom.”
Minako waved her off with a tsk, but flapped a long dark wig over his head.
When it was done, even he had to blink at his reflection.
It was… actually kind of good? The long dark hair suited him, the smokey eyes and contour kinda…too?
“You know,” Minako commented. “You look a bit like Rei like this.”
“You really, really do,” Usagi hushed, quite breathlessly, quite wide-eyed, cheeks way too flushed, and he couldn’t help but lift his eyebrows at her in the reflection of the mirror.
He really didn’t know what to think when she blushed even harder at that…
“Shoes!” Minako cried happily, interrupting that thought, and presented him with a pay of pretty much sky high transparent peep toes, with a red sole and… and… were those roses in the platforms?!  “I have your slippers, princess,” she said with a smirk.
He looked at them as if she was waving a pair of guns at him.
“Are you expecting me to be able to walk in that?” he asked incredulously.
She threw him a look of utter annoyance. “Just try, for god’s sake. This isn’t science.”
And so he sighed again, but strapped himself into seven inch shoes with roses in them.
When he got up, Usagi’s hand directly there to clutch his and help him up, he was surprised he could actually somewhat walk on them.
“You know…” he said, surprised and looking down, “this isn’t actually so bad?”
Minako beamed with pride.
“If I don’t have to actually, you know, walk…?”
Another tsk and dismissive wave of Minako’s hand. “Just hang on to the pole. You’ll be fine.”
“A pole?!”
“Ahh, don’t worry, Just swing around a little on it. Try to look sexy.”
“WHAT?!”
“Like you wanna fuck the audience. Ya know? Look at them like you look at Usagi when she’s yelling something obnoxious at you.”
“MINAKO?!”
And so, about an hour later, mic in his fake cleavage and dick taped to his ass and looking like a Queen, he stood in front of an open stage door with a mission to fulfill.
“Let’s do this then,” he said with one last sigh.
“Yas Queen!” Makoto shouted amusedly, and shut up with a barely contained chuckle at his withering look.
“Showtime!” Minako cried ecstatically, and shoved him down the stage door. “Don’t get killed!”
He sighed again, but got to it.
Minako pressed her fist to her heart. “I am so proud of my daughter,” she beamed, wiping away a fake tear.
“You are NOT HIS MOTHER,” Rei cried again in frustration.
And no one really commented the fact that Usagi kind of really, really seemed to like her fiancé in that get-up.
Eventually, he actually kinda killed it? Before the homophobic monster attacked, of course, and blew it all to smithereens. But even then, Domina Masque looked like quite a stunner throwing those roses.

Sailor Moon Sailor Moon Z A survivor of the Dark Kingdom gets revenge by means of a Zombie Apocalypse. Merging of Classic Anime and Manga canons.
When Metaria's dark cloud swarmed over the world, Indicolite was undercover in the CDC, trying to find a way to use her favourite bacterial agents as agents for the Dark Kingdom.
While the bodies started dropping around her, drained and overwhelmed by Materia's presence, Indicolite sat at her desk sipping tea, revelling in the feel of the great ruler's dark energy.
When the purifying essence of the Silver Crystal swept over the world, the origin point too far to hurt her, but erasing Metaria, Indicolite shrieked and screamed, and destroyed her teacup, her computer, her chair, and the face of an assistant.
She erased the footage from the cameras and claimed they'd been attacked during the darkness.
After everything had settled down, almost a week later, Indicolite made her way the Dark Kingdom's headquarters at D-point in the North Pole. There was no trace of any other denizen of the Kingdom, the entire area felt almost Holy in its cleanliness. It made her sick to her stomach.
What she did find however, was equipment left of from the various schemes of the four generals, tools and schematics.
Indicolite wasn't one for sentimentality, but any excuse for vengeance would do.
First, she'd need energy.
Unlike the generals, she didn't go to Japan, went everywhere else in fact, and didn't drain people to unconsciousness. She set up small drains in the metropolitan cities of the world, skimming off the millions of people who walked around unaware.
Unlike Beryl, Indicolite didn't need all the energy in an instant, she was happy to wait for the big haul; after all, she still had work to do. Using the resources of the CDC and their various contacts Indicolite set about creating her masterpiece, augmented by the relics of the Dark Kingdom, but something was missing, some piece that would allow her creation to not only work, but defend against the power of the Senshi.
She needed more data on them.
With that in mind, she did what she'd told herself she wouldn't do until it was too late to be stopped: Indicolite went to Tokyo.
She stayed out of sight, didn't take any energy, didn't attack anyone, she merely tracked down the interesting energy sources until she found the five girls who matched the Senshi's description. She followed them, studied them, scanned them for days. But she couldn't figure out how to take one without alerting the others.
Then her scanning equipment blipped.
It turned out, their were eight Senshi in the Tokyo area. Of the other three, two of them seemed to be dating, but the third was almost always alone. The little dark haired girl was sickly, rarely left the house, and it appeared the other Senshi knew nothing about her.
Indicolite killed the girl's guardian, made it look like an accident, and took off with the child, days before anyone knew anything had happened.
The child was to scared to fight back, didn't even know what was happening most of the time. When Indicolite realised which Senshi she'd grabbed, and what her powers were, the Dark Kingdom witch decided it was Fate.
With the Power of the Senshi of Saturn, not only could Indicolite protect her creation from Sailor Moon's healing spells, she could infuse it with so much more magic, an endless cycle of it.
Her laughter was manic, as she imagined the soon to come death, destruction and panic.
Only after vaccinating herself and Saturn did she release the virus, in aerosol canisters through the major cities of the world, including Japan. She waited four days before activating it. Then she sat back and watched the world burn.
Ami was the first Senshi to know about the attack. Her mother called in the early hours of the morning panicked.
“Ami? Oh God, Ami, are you safe!?”
“I'm fine, why are you whispering?”
“They're everywhere, Ami I want you to stay inside, lock the door and stay inside. I'm safe for now but I need you to promise me! I need you to be safe”
“I- Mum, what's going on, who is everywhere?”
“I don't know, they won't die, they're eating people! It's not like before, they're actually eating people! MH!”
“Mum?”
“They're outside the room.”
“Hang on mum, I'll come get you.”
“NO!” The stage whisper was followed but a gasp and silence.
“Mum?”
“I think they heard me. Please just be safe. I love you so much.”
The line went dead. Ami dropped the phone.
Rei was the second to find out. She woke early for morning prayer, to find Yuiichiro had become a flesh eating monster. An early morning jogger who stopped by on their way home every morning was dead in front of him, throat gone and blood still cooling as he ate.
She and her grandpa tried exorcism for an hour. When Yuiichiro's meal woke up and tried to eat them, Rei put an arrow through its eye, followed by Yuiichiro's.
The Police never arrived.
Usagi, Minako and Makoto found out at about the same time. Minako was receiving a call from Rei, Makoto was getting one from Ami, and Usagi's dad was leaving the house.
“Ah, mister Tanaka, good morning, you're looking a little unwell, rough night?” Ikuko, standing at the door watching her husband leave, shrieked when their friendly neighbour Mr Tanaka attacked. Her children where behind her in an instant.
“Get back inside!” She didn't know if she was screaming to the children or to her husband. From further up the street, more of their neighbours came walking along the road, a few of them even looked like they'd been mauled by something. Her husband was managing to fend of Mr Tanaka, who looked like he was trying to eat Kenji, until the deranged neighbour wrenched his briefcase from his grip. Her husband fell backwards, a flash of blonde streaked past her, and before she knew what she was seeing, Usagi used their Burglar-Bat to smack Mr Tanaka in the face so hard he was struck to the ground, his head hitting with a loud crack.
“Daddy, you need to get up.” With his daughter's help he managed to get to his feet and back inside. They locked the door and added a chair to wedge it shut. The table went on its side against the glass sliding doors as the other neighbours began converging on the house.
Their phone rang, Usagi was beside it, answering before the second ring.
“Hello?”
“Usako! Are you alright? Have you been bitten? Are they even there yet?”
“Yes, no, yes. Mamo-chan, what's going on?”
“I don't know, I went for a jog-” a grunt of exertion came over the phone, “and they were just everywhere, I saw the police trying to fight them earlier, they only seemed to stay dead when they got shot in the head.”
Usagi called for her brother.
“Shingo, talk to Mamo-chan a sec I need to check something.”
“Hello?”
“Hi, Shingo ri-” another short shout of exertion, Shingo thought he heard something heavy hit the ground.
“Sorry about that, the way back to my apartment is swarming with these things, I'm going to try to make it to your place. I noticed they're attracted to sound; and don't let them bite you, I saw someone die from a bite earlier. It was only a small one. Just stay inside and stay safe. Tell Usako I love her.”
Before Shingo could say anything, there came the sound of fighting from the speaker, it moved away. This 'Mamo-chan' must have been calling from a pay phone, Shingo realised, hanging up.
“Shingo! Why'd you hang up?”
“Sorry sis, guy said he had to move, he's going to try to make it here, the way to his apartment is swarmed.” Shingo related the massage he'd been left. Then took a second look at his now devastated sister.
“You went upstairs to put on a new brooch?” Their parents sidled up to them.
“What's going on, who was on the phone?”
“Mamo-chan called, he said the police were fighting those people, but they only died when they got shot in the head. Mr Tanaka hasn't gotten up yet.”
“He said people died from a single bite too,” Shingo added, “and they're attracted to sound. He's on his way here. And Usagi decided to take a break from protecting our home from crazy people to put on a new brooch!”
The glass doors broke, the horde of - whatever the heck they were – toppling over the table and into the house.
“You three get upstairs!” The command in Usagi's voice shocked her family. “Now!” They moved, about halfway up the stairs they heard her call out again.
“Moon Crystal Power, Make up!” They turned just in time to see Usagi covered in a bright light for an instant before Sailor Moon was suddenly standing where Usagi had been.
“Moon Healing Escalation!” The wand that had appeared in her hand let of a burst of energy, it washed over the pile of infected trying to stand, but did nothing.
With her free hand Sailor moon tugged off her tiara.
“Moon Tiara Stardust! Moon Healing Escalation!”
While the Tiara doused the group, the wand sent another wave of energy over them.
“Sailor Moon!” The trio on the stairs turned to the new intruder, but found only their cat. Which began talking. “Sailor Moon, I'm sorry but you can't help these people, the Crescent Moon Wand would have healed them if it could. The only thing you can do now is grant them a merciful send off.”
Sailor Moon looked ready to cry, or throw up and she caught her tiara.
“Moon Tiara Activation!” Her hand waved through the air, directing the flying weapon in the compact space of the house.
The phone rang a second time as the last body dropped.
Sailor Moon answered.
“Hello?”
“Usagi! Usagi they are strange people attacking the store, but they don't seem to be interested in the jewellery. They keep coming after Mama and me.”
“Did either of you get bit?”
“No.”
“Okay, lock yourselves in somewhere, I'm going to come get you. Don't get bitten and stay quiet, if you can, aim for the head, it's the only way we know to stop them so far. I'm coming to get you Naru, just hold on.”
“I will. Usagi, they're coming, I have to go.”
“Be safe.” Usagi's last words were answered by the dial tone.
“You're Sailor Moon?” Shingo asked incredulous, their parents still hadn't recovered from the shock.
“Yeah, surprised me too when I first found out. Look, from the sounds of things, this is happening all over Tokyo, possibly all over Japan, and right now, I'm the only Sailor Senshi with powers that will be of any use against these things.
“Just when I thought we were done fighting... right focus. Luna, I need the wands for the others, and communicators for more than just the five of us. Mum, dad, Shingo: get what food you can, we're going to barricade upstairs until we come up with a better plan.”
The family of four collected what they could and hauled it upstairs, Luna disappeared back into Usagi's room.
Once the barricade was in place Ikuko asked her daughter “What now?” Sailor Moon looked at her.
“I don't...”
“You said 'we're going to barricade upstairs,' but I heard you promise Naru you'd go get her. How will we defend ourselves without you?”
“I've managed to summon some old Moon Kingdom guns, they should work, and they're quiet compared to modern firearms.” The family flinched, they'd been trying to repress the memory of the cat talking.
“Thanks Luna, you four take care of yourselves, I'll call in an hour to let you know I'm okay.”
“Be safe.”
“No! I forbid you to leave this house young lady, it's not safe out there!”
“I know daddy, that's why I have to go. I love you all so much.”
Sailor Moon ducked into her bedroom with Luna, scooping the new wands and communicators into a backpack.
“Luna's going to stay, to show us how to use the guns right?” Shingo asked from the door.
“I am,” the mautian replied.
“So who's going to watch your back? You said the other Senshi didn't have the power right now.”
“That's what the wands are for, I'm going to give them their powers back. I know it's complicated-”
“You should pin your hair up.”
“Huh?”
“The... zombies, or whatever they are, might grab it. You should out it up like you do for the bath.”
“Ah you're right, I guess I never thought about it like that, the monsters we used to fight never really grabbed my hair before.”
Sailor Moon landed on Makoto's balcony, tapping the glass quietly. The curtain didn't even rustle. She tried opening the sliding door. It wasn't locked. There was a note on the table, boxed lunches in the fridge and cupboard.
'Gone to get Motoki.'
She ran into Sailor V half way to the arcade.
“Minako!”
“Usagi, I'm so glad you're alright, how are you transformed though?”
“How are you transformed? I've got new gear from Luna, I have a pen and wand for you.” Sailor moon rummaged through the bag until she found the pen for Venus and her new communicator. “Here.”
“Thanks, I wasn't sure how much longer the V compact was going to last, hold Artemis a sec?” The white mautian looked put out at being handled like luggage.
“Oh! The new wand has a new phrase, it's 'star power' now.”
“Got it, Venus Star Power, Make Up!” An instant later Sailor Venus was there.
“I need to find the others, I have gear for them too.”
“I've already spoken to Rei... she had to kill Yuiichiro this morning, he was eating someone and exorcism didn't work and his victim woke up from the dead. I knew I'd have to fight monsters, but these are full on zombies.”
“It gets worse, my Crescent Moon wand can't heal them.”
“Oh Usagi.”
“Do you think Rei can hold out a little longer?”
“Yeah, she said she and her grandpa are just standing at the top of the stairs and shooting anyone who comes up. Any one who is a zombie anyway. They've had a few survivors so far, but this thing is all over Tokyo.”
“Makoto went to find Motoki, if he was already at work he may have headed down to the control room.”
“I can head over there and check, that's where we were going, Artemis wanted to see if he could figure out what's going on. The Dark Kingdom is gone, and this happened way to sudden to be natural.”
“Then I'll get Ami, and we'll head over to Rei. Here, take these to Makoto.”
“Be careful princess.”
“You too Venus.”
Ami was waiting on the Balcony, watching the hordes move about, when Sailor Moon landed.
“My mother was at the hospital when this broke out, she managed to call me a few hours ago.”
“We'll look for her, but not yet. I have new gear for you, but we need to get to the temple to help Rei, she has a group of survivors. Venus is dropping Artemis off at the Control room and heading out to find Makoto, who went looking for Motoki.”
“What? I told her not too! It's too dangerous without our powers!”
“I know, but if anyone could, it's Makoto, and when we find her, you can give her a stern talking to.”
“Let me get the medical supplies and some food, and I want to leave a note for my mother just in case.”
“Alright.”
Rei whirled and fired an arrow into the walking dead-thing that had managed to sneak through the forest around the shrine. She cursed all the zombie movies who'd said zombies were slow, these things moved at normal human speeds, some of them even moved faster.
She turned back to the stairs, grasping at her quiver, only to meet empty air.
“Grandpa, I need more arrows.”
The man was silent, she glanced over, he shook his head, they were out of arrows. She'd have to make another trip down the stairs to pull arrows from corpses. One of the survivors screamed, Rei spun, alarmed, more zombies were emerging from the forest.
“Moon Tiara Activation!”
A golden disk of light swept through the undead, cutting their heads in half.
“Sorry we're late, I had to pack supplies,” Sailor mercury explained, dropping down beside the priestess.
“Just in time,” Rei waved off her apology, “that was my last arrow,” she pointed to the corpse she'd downed a moment ago.
Then she gave a pointed look at Mercury's outfit and her own.
“Sailor Moon bought new wands and communicators from Luna, we just heard from Artemis in the Control Room, he and Venus have found Makoto and Motoki. Mamoru showed up at Usagi's a few minutes ago. Venus and Jupiter are on their way over to us, the boys are going to ready the Control Room for guests. Once we have your survivors safe we're going to the hospital for my mother, then Osa-P for Naru and her mother.”
“What about Usagi and Minako's families?”
“The Tsukinos are barricaded in with Mamoru and Luna, they have weapons and food, Minako said her parents were locked in their panic room when she left, so they're all safe for now.”
Sailor Moon, who'd been talking to survivors, appeared by Rei's side.
“Didn't want to try the Crescent Moon Wand?” Rei asked, cranky from the horrific morning she'd had, the memory of Yuiichiro's dead face, with her arrow sticking out, swimming behind her eyes.
“I did,” the princess defended, “twice. It doesn't work on this. Luna and Artemis said it might be because it's a virus and not magical in origin.”
“Oh, I'm sorry.”
“No, Ami told me what happened to...” The pair silently looked away from each other, before wrapping one another in a tight hug.
“Whatever this is, we'll get through it, together.”

Scavenging
Sponsored fic from @katrani who asked for “MInako taking a scavenger hunt too seriously” Thank you so much for all of your support!
“Haruka, you’re a butch lesbian! Don’t tell me you don’t have a leatherman or some shit laying around in your pocket.” She tried to pry the license plate off the car.
“I’m pretty sure this is illegal.” Haruka crouched down next to Mina.
“Do you have one or not? Lives are on the line here!” She held her hand out expectantly.
If you would have asked Haruka, earlier that day, if she felt she was going to spend her evening stealing a license plate off a Honda with Mina in the graceful dim of twilight, she would have said no.
And then she would have reconsidered her friendship with Mina, and said maybe.
“Haruka!” Mina hissed “Any day now!”
Haruka dug down into her pocket and pulled out her knife, handing it to Mina. “We’re gonna get fucking arrested.”
Mina began to pry at the license plate, “I can live with that, but I can’t live with the idea of Rei winning this.”
It all seemed very reasonable until the blue and red began to flicker in the shiny white paint of the car’s bumper.
__________
It had all began long before evening fell.
It was Usagi’s birthday, and this year, like most years, she had a plan. Usagi didn’t work overly hard at planning things, mostly, but her birthday was always a special occasion, and she had plenty of food and cake for everyone, festooned with bright streamers and glittered hats barely dry from being finished the night before.
But this year, that was not all she had up her bright pink sleeve. She clapped her hands together excitedly, birthday tiara nearly falling off with the thrill of it.
“Everyone! I have a GAME for us to play!” She held a small sheaf of papers in her hand, “With a prize!”
The assembled group all looked at each other, wondering if the game or the prize seemed more terrifying--with Usagi, either could be true, but it was her birthday after all, and they all privately and personally resolved to be as good a sports as they could be.
“It’s a scavenger hunt!” She put the list of items in front of her, “I hid things for you to find! ANd that’s not all,”Usagi excitedly brought out a hat with slips of paper in it. “I’m going to draw your partners!!”
Everyone looked around the room with mild horror, sizing each other up. They worked together well, as one solid unit, but much like an erector set, sometimes the building got more difficult with only two poorly-matched parts.
“The first person is...Mako!” The named fell with delight off Usagi’s tongue, as if she had never encountered a more delightful arrangement of syllables. “And her partner is…” she rifled through the hat. “Rei! Oh Mako, you’re so lucky!”
Mako grinned, and reached out her hand for a fistbump with Rei, who returned it, grabbing the list of items from Usagi.
She nodded to Mako. “We’ll win this, absolutely,” she waved a hand dramatically, “No one else has a chance.”
Mina popped her gum and snorted, “Good luck on that. We all I know that I,” she pointed to herself, “am keen of mind, and nimble of foot, seductive of body, and graceful of..you know the rest, I don’t have to tell you poetry.”
“Ah yes,” MIchiru sighed, “A favorite of mine, the poet Vraiment des Conneries.”
Mina shot her a look. ‘I don’t love your tone, Squidward.”
Usagi drew out another name. “Michiru! Let’s see who you’re paired with,” she scowled as she mixed up the pieces of paper, and then drew one out.
Her eyes flicked to Minako, and suddenly Mina was filled with a dark panic. Her mouth moved to form the words, no, jesus no, please.
But on this day, fortune smiled up her, and Usagi’s voice rang out.
“Ami!”
Both Ami and Michiru looked at each other, their faces suggesting they might have drank a bit of soured milk in that exact simultaneous instant.
“You’re both so smart!” Usagi quickly shoved the list of items into their hands. “It’s almost like cheating!”
MIchiru crossed her arms and smiled. “I would be perfectly fine with a fairer pairing.”
“You know, Usagi, I’ve read so many articles that say a classic education is really a better indicator of wealth than intelligence.” Ami added.
“You’re ever so right, Ami, I find Haruka more intellectually stimulating than any number of people who pore over memorized formulae, and I think most would agree.”
Mina raised her hand. “I changed my mind, I do want to be on their team.”
Usagi shook her head. “Teams of two! I’m sure you and,” she opened the paper, “Haruka! Will do great.”
Haruka grinned. “We’re gonna kick ass.” She and Mina high-fived over the table.
“Team Blonde Ambition!” Mina snatched the list off the table before Usagi could grab it. “Easy. Got it, we’re golden.” She winked at Rei. “And if there’s a tie, we can have Mako and Haruka fight it out in the garage.”
Mako raised her chin to Haruka. “You feeling up to it?”
“When am I ever not?” Haruka stretched her back out. “If you’re in the mood to get beat.”
Mako laughed, “I think you’re getting slow in your old age.”
“Yeah, and that’s why you had to buy me a smoothie after.” She grinned.
“I was feeling charitable.”
“No! Don’t fight on my birthday!” Usagi’s lip wiggled.
Mina clapped her on the shoulder. “Don’t worry, it’s just how they show affection. Like emotionally incompetent 12 year old boys.” She looked back at the list. “Piece of cake. Figurative, not literal. Surprised there’s not literal cake on here though.”
Rei tossed her hair. “You and Haruka are NOT going to win, Mina.”
Mina swanned over behind her and placed her head on Rei’s shoulder. “Soooo...care to place a bet on that, Reinaldo? If I win, you have to go on a date with me. DInner, dancing, the whole nine yards, and you have to pay, but I get to pick the restaurant.” She grinned playfully, at Rei, knowing that there was no bait that Rei could not rise to, when competition was on the line.
Rei scowled at her for a moment, but answered, “And what if I win?”
“Then you GET to go on a date with me, but I’ll let you pick the restaurant.” The smile never left her face, only growing more as a cheshire cat.
Rei stepped away from her and stood still, arms crossed, unimpressed for a few moments. Her eyebrow raised, and she turned back to MIna.
“If I win, you have to help clean up the shrine for a whole month.”
“Kind of serious for one night of a date, don’t you think, fireball?”
Well, if you don’t think you can win, which you can’t, then--”
“Okay okay okay.” Mina waved her hand, annoyed. “Deal.”
Rei reached out to shake her hand. “Deal.”
___________
And, as twilight became nighttime, Mina and Haruka found themselves warming a concrete bench behind bars.
The cell was not particularly warm or particularly clean, but the most vexing problem, to MIna’s mind, was that there was no way to win Rei’s date from inside it. Also perhaps the fact that Haruka seemed to be having a slowly advancing meltdown, not quite unlike a lava flow of lesbian frustration and disappointment.
“I know this looks bad, but think about what a great story this is gonna be later. We’ll laugh about this over beers all the time.” She kicked back and smiled, trying to seem casual.
“Michiru’s gonna kill me.” Haruka buried her face in her hands. “She’s always telling me not to get into trouble, and here I am, always in trouble, because it’s something in me, and--”
“Haruka,” she placed a hand on her shoulder, “I love you very much. I need you to can the lesbian self-hating melodrama for like….20 minutes. Your wife is not gonna divorce you for stealing a license plate.”
Haruka jerked upwards, staring at Mina. “She might! She sound so pissed on the phone!”
“Didn’t you throw up on her when you had your wisdom teeth out? I think you’re pretty stuck, bud.”
Haruka gave a groan and dramatically tossed herself backward on the bench, slamming her head into the cement wall.
“You gonna give yourself a concussion for the sympathy, or what?”
As if on cue, the clacking tap tap tap of a pair of heels echoed down the hallway, and Mina didn’t have to look up to see who it was, perfectly and neatly tailored, her face in a calm and flat disappointment.
Haruka threw herself to her feet, half stumbling toward Michiru, and pressed her face to the bars.
“I’m sorry, Michiru.”
“However much fun it might have been, it cannot possibly have been worth the hours you have spent in a cell. Let’s get you home, then, and clean you off.” She indicated to the police officer, who unlocked the cell and led Haruka out to the hallway by the arm.
“Are you mad?” Haruka looked at her cautiously.
“I wish you would think before you act. I wish you would think before Minako acts. But I love you, so very much, and we can always discuss this later, when you are less tired and tender.” She placed her hand on Haruka’s back and began to guide her away from the cell, when Haruka had a realization, and stopped.
“You can’t leave Mina in jail.” Haruka protested, holding on to the bar of the jail as if she might chain herself to it.
Michiru stared at her, annoyed, “You really are meaning to test the bounds of my good nature tonight, Haruka.” She turned to Mina. “I will thank you, in future, to avoid any activity which might see my wife arrested.”
Mina opened her mouth to snap back, and then the bars came into perfect focus in front of her. She huffed and nodded. “Okay, okay, noted.”
___
“Usagi said you went to jail??” Rei gestured wildly at nothing in particular.
“Technically,” She raised a finger in correction, “We were just held, we didn’t go to JAIL, because we know someone, I won’t say who, but her last name rhymes with why-oh. Speaking of, how did she and Ami do? Intellectual curiosity.”
“They split up and went to sit at separate cafes for three hours.” She shook her head, not willing to get turned off topic, “You stole a license plate.” Rei looked at her skeptically. “You stole a license plate to go on a date with me.”
Mina shrugged noncommittally. “I mean, I guess when you put it that way, it sounds a little desperate. So let’s put it another way. I stole a license plate to BEAT you.”
Rei gave a chuckle and an eyeroll. “Mina, you’re never going to make it happen. I have...duties, and a life, and I can’t just--”
“I’m not asking you to marry me, Rei, I’m asking you to go out to dinner.” Mina looked at her. “ Leave it to you to make it the most dramatic thing on earth, I just….I like being around you.”
It was a throwaway line. It was five simple, unpoetic words. It was nothing at all, and it was a moment of exquisite, beautiful vulnerability, and Rei found herself unable to answer for a moment. She wanted to return that, to tell she worried, she worried if she danced too close, they’d be bound together, like Haruka and Michiru, and she’d neglect her duty to Usagi, always watching for Mina in the corner of her eye, like they did, like Rei hated.
“We’re not the idiot lesbians, Rei.”
Rei twitched backward confusion. “How did you--”
“Oh, come on,” she rolled her eyes dramatically  ”you’re not that hard to read. Anyway,” she shrugged, “Where’s the broom, I’m thrilled to get to this shit. And then get back so I can be in trouble with another lesbian, it’s a great day to be Minako Aino.”
Rei took a breath and stood at the edge, never jumping, but just looking.
“Do you want some tea, first?”

I will always love that without knowing the actual context of the episode, it sounds like Usagi’s panic is over her wanting to be Rei’s first date.
(which, let’s face it, is not untrue).
