How about the movie that made me cry in my childhood? A.I. , Artificial Intelligence. With Sonny as David

OKAY! This is a hard one. Because this movie is such a big, weird, ball of potential that we can take multiple directions.

So Sonny is not only the very first robot child, but also the first that is programmed to love. Robots can express emotions and can feel, but only when they're programmed to. The thing with Sonny, is they want to make a robot that can learn to love on its own without being told who to love or how.

I'm thinking for the parents, we do Usnavi and Vanessa, who in this, are a new couple that are unable to have children (Parental Vansnavi is back, babeeeeeeey!). They introduce Sonny to them and start his Imprint Program, which is basically the start of his Love program that will soon grow. It's a little awkward at first for Usnavi and Vanessa, since Sonny is still a new robot and has to learn social skills and the proper behavior for a child his age, but they slowly but surely grow attached to him. They also give him a robot puppy named Chip, who is Teddy in his AU. Chip can talk to Sonny and helps him and gives him advice.

So for the rest of the plot, I'm thinking we take a bit more from Pinocchio since that's what this movie is inspired by. Rather than being abandoned (because let's be real, Usnavi wouldn't have the stomach to do that), Sonny gets separated from them. Like, maybe Sonny got distracted and wandered onto a vehicle by mistake or got left behind while Usnavi and Vanessa were moving to a new space for them. Or maybe Sonny also gets the same want as David, wanting to be real which he thinks would make Usnavi and Vanessa happy, and tried to find the Blue Fairy only to wind up lost. Whatever happened, Sonny now has to go find his surrogate parents. I'm thinking Benny could be Joe in this scenario, aka the robot companion Sonny makes as they travel, and maybe we could include Nina and Lincoln as companions too.

So this is where I start throwing in my own ideas. Sonny's Love program has been steadily learning and growing this whole time, and as he travels, his programming has started to learn that he can love other people that aren't Usnavi and Vanessa. Sonny grows to love Benny, Nina, Lincoln, and Chip, because he cares for them and they care for him. And being around them has also taught his programming that he can't love everybody because the real world SUCKS. And maybe his programming can be passed on to others? Like, when Sonny tells his three companions how he feels, he unlocks something in their programming that makes them feel love too despite not having an order to love. I'm not sure how the technicalities of this would work, I just think it would be an interesting and soft take.

Anyway, I'm going to NOT do the alien ending from the movie because I want Sonny to be fucking happy, so let's say that our climax maybe involves the lab that made Sonny? Like, they find out just what he's done, how he's learned, and how he's passed this on to other robots, and now they want him back to conduct more tests and study more, but this will likely involve his memories being removed so they can be studied, and if they make a newer model of him, it's likely he'll be scrapped. And the lab has called in Usnavi and Vanessa as a way to draw him in. So Sonny goes to the lab with him companions and once Usnavi and Vanessa learn what they're going to do they fight tooth and nail to get Sonny and themselves out of there.

I'm not sure how we can do the real boy angle or if we even CAN? The only thing I can think of is that they take Sonny's memories out of the robot body and implant them into a comatose or newly deceased body of another child that looks similar to him before resuscitating it; then Sonny can be real and grow up like any other kid.

do you have any hcs on vanessa’s relationship with her mom?

The play actually gave us a pretty damn good picture of what her mom is like. Vanessa's having so much trouble saving up money to move downtown because every time she brings home money and puts some aside to help her mom (likely with rent and utilities) her mom 'drinks it away', as Daniela puts it, before asking when she was gonna get out of that toxic environment. So yeah...rough home-life for Van

We don't know why her mom's like this, but I think it has something to do with Vanessa's dad. Maybe he upped and left or died suddenly and her mom couldn't handle both the heartbreak and the responsibility of raising a young Vanessa by herself.

With that said, I think Vanessa has mixed feelings about her mom. She knows her mom is in a bad place right now and really isn't acting the way a mom should; and to make matters worse, since she drinks SO MUCH, Vanessa can't confront her about it because she'd probably just drink to forget immediately after. But at the same time, Vanessa still remembers what her REAL mom was like, BEFORE the booze took over. Strict, but fun and caring, a good mom. So I like to think that Vanessa may be distant from her, but never truly gives up on her. Maybe after she finally moved she got a much more financially stable job (maybe a fashion designer like she wanted in the movie) and was finally able to get her mom the help she needed and FINALLY air out all the dirty laundry that's been gathering over the years.
