FUCK THIS. [ Closing Redbubble]

Ive been on Redubble Since Oct 2014 .For those who dont know , Redbubble is known to make merchandise such as t-shirts, bags, and stickers [ which I used it for ] with artist’s work. From there, when someone buys something through them, Redbubble makes it, ships it and whatever difference is leftover from the manufacturing and shipping price, the artist gets that cut. The artist is welcomed to adjust the price of their merchandise they placed their works on so they could get a profit. But, even then its a bit of a gamble, because you wont see much of a profit for what you were getting.

A good example is I used my store mostly for stickers, cause I didn't feel bad charging about 2.40 for a good vinyl sticker, but out of that I’d probably only see 25-50 cents of that product go to me.

It was fine for a time, but the past couple of years ive been having trouble with the company. While redbubble likes to push original work of artists, there are plenty of times that you can find fan-derived works that are being sold on their merchandise.

I took a part of that as well, at first selling some of my pokemon and my little pony stickers through redbubble.

But then, not too long after, I received a letter through them saying that they took down my works because Intellectual Property shouldn't be used to sell on their site. At first I was taken back and frustrated, but then I understood. I mean, you want people to work on selling original stuff, I get that. And while some of the stuff that I saw in their works were clearly recolors of Official merchandise [ or sometimes just blatant rips ] I didnt want to point fingers at the artists. Instead, I made original works with my cosplaying dog, CeCe as well as showed some of my favorites with Redbubbles Portfolio tab. With Portfolio you can show your favorite works but they were NOT for sale, which I was cool with. Some stuff I didnt feel comfortable selling through them but I enjoyed anyway.

No problems for a bout a year or so... then In the past month I got a double whammy. Not only did they take down my portfolio works, but they started pinpointing my Cosplaying Corgis.

..... Now, Mind you. I drew that on my own. I made the artwork and painted that on my own. CeCe is my own original character. They only thing that you could considered “ripped” was the costume itself. Which, if thats the case, they should be going after cosplayers, right? On top of that, I went and looked under the Tabs with the same tags I used for this character and this is what I find:

I checked the dates for these works and they’ve been there for YEARS as well as been sold off to buyers plenty of times. They’re not portfolio works. They’re actually made to sell. So, while Redbubble may not be the ones who are asking the works to be taken down [ Both the Pokemon Company and Cartoon Network have requested redbubble to take down those works on their behalf ] they’re not doing a massive sweep for ALL merchandise that would be under the same red flag as mine. They pick and choose who benefits them more as far as money is concerned. Because Intelectual property makes them money. So.. yea... with all that said, I’m closing down my Redbubble. But, it will be a little at a time. You see, while ive been keeping my connection with redbubble, Ive also made another connection with vinyl disorder. Now, I can get high quality, UV protected, vinyl stickrs at any size for a reasonable price.

And as long as its your original works, they’ll print them out no problem. It will suck that I will lose the little bit of recognition I was getting through redbubble, but I’m not a fan of getting fucked over and I can make a better mark on my own now. So, every month I’ll be ordering stickers I have through redbubble with vinyl disorder instead. They’ll then be offered at my shop on etsy and they’ll disappear through redbubble. When I get all my stickers from redbubble in my own private inventory, I’m closing redbubble for good. It will take some time. I can safely say it will be until the end of summer before I get all of it together as well as making new stickers. But, I’m really tired of getting played with.
