some silly voltron thoughts;

shiro is actually very goofy and fun around his partner (originally this was gonna be about adam but it could also apply to curtis)

around the team, he's their leader and a parental figure. he provides them with guidance and instruction, and he's a mentor. he's the black lion's paladin, but with his partner, he's shiro and that's so special to me guys

like imagine he's baking with his partner, he's wearing some branded apron he was gifted by the garrison as part of a consolation package, and they both have flour in their hair and on their noses.

whatever they were making ends up burnt but they laugh about it and order postmates instead, turning on a stupid horror movie and eating storebought cookies until they fall asleep on the couch.

it's one of the few domestic moments that shiro *really* gets to experience as a pilot, but more importantly it makes him remember he's in his fucking 20's. it gives him a chance to actually feel like it.

when he's around someone he loves (especially if it's romantic), he lets himself feel like he doesn't know what he's doing. and that feels so, so good. for once, he doesn't have to pretend all of his shit is together, and he can relax and act his age.

Ive covered this in great detail before (talking about how I and the others felt) and believe me, I miss her a lot. I don’t mind being asked again, but if you want more information I suggest searching the askkeithkog tag in my blog :)

She’s a honorable woman who gave her life for multiple realities, and it’s hard for me to speak on the grief we went through. I respect her sacrifice.

Well I was jealous. However, I never did anything about that. I felt he deserved a happy ending, that happy ending was Allura. He had flirted with her for forever, and I had left. I didn’t deserve him like she did, at that time. I avoided them, mostly, as much as I could, disregard our talk before their first date-

When she died, I had to help Lance through the grieving process. He took a long time to feel like he could be in love again, but then he came to me. We have to go long distance sometimes, since I take food from his families farm to planets and he does that sometimes as well, but even then we have a great relationship.

Common misconception is he stays on Earth at the farm, nah he still does stuff. Ironically it’s now mostly cargo like food/medical supplies but we still do a lot of work in space.

Shiro didn’t adopt me, legally I am still an orphan. Pretty sure Curtis jokes about me being his son though (that’s Shiro’s husband, if you didn’t know, he’s not really that public of a figure)

Kosmo said hi back. He misses Lance, who’s on Earth currently. Probably just wants the treats.

“Please give a warm welcome to your newest peer, he’s a foreign exchange student. Would you like to come up and introduce yourself, Takashi?” Shiro winced but shuffled away from the door and towards the front of the class. “It’s Shiro.” He corrected politely, the teacher made a face but nodded. “My apologies, Shiro.” The teacher smiled warmly and stepped aside to let him talk. He glanced around the room anxiously, a lot of faces, most curious and excited, it was encouraging.  Before the nerves could stir up in his guts, he straightened his back, holding his hands in front of him. “Hello, My name is Shirogane Takashi. My first name is Takashi but-” A student raised their hand. He glanced at the teacher, unsure. He only nodded and gestured to him. That was sort of unhelpful. Shiro thought offhandedly, but called on the kid anyway.

“If it’s your first name, why did you say your last name first?” Shiro picked at his nails and gave a nervous smile. “Oh, that’s because In Japan, your peers. Coworkers, or anyone you’re not close to are supposed to call you by your last name.” The kid looked like they had another question so Shiro added quickly. “It’s just what I’m used to being called.”

The kid shrugged with an ‘Okay’ and settled back into their seat. He cleared his throat and started again. “Like I said, Takashi is my first name but I’d prefer if you all called me Shiro.” He tried to give an honest smile. The teacher piped up from his desk, “Why don’t you share some of your hobbies, your skills, just let the class get to know a bit about you.”

Having been put on the spot, Shiro frowned and rubbed his arm, thinking of things. Another kid in the back raised their hand, and the first thing Shiro noticed was he had very blue eyes. It was a random observation but he called on them anyway. “Hi.” Shiro waited for the rest, but silence followed so he greeted back. “..Hello.” They watched him for a second before adding. “I’m Curtis.” Shiro relaxed a little but wasn’t sure how to respond. “Hi Curtis, I’m Shiro.. I already said that, huh.”

Curtis smiled before leaning back in his seat. “What’s your favorite color?” Shiro glanced around the room, none of them looked surprised or confused, he spared another glance at his teacher and their small smile just indicated this wasn’t too abnormal or out of the blue. “Uh, probably black, well, some people don’t think black is a color, so, purple?” Curtis didn’t mind the slow responses. “I like blue, specifically baby blue.”

Shiro wanted to snort, he wondered if it was because it matched his eyes. Shiro hadn’t noticed the teacher standing up. “Thank you, Curtis, for that. Would you mind if Mr. Shiro here sat next to you?” The teacher had rested a hand on his shoulder and he stiffened up. “Oh, he does-”

“Sure.” He said easily, reaching over to move his bag from the seat beside him. He made a grand gesture to the empty school chair as if it was some kind of throne. Shiro giggled into his arm, playing it off as clearing his throat. “Well, if we have no more questions for Shiro, you can take your seat.” Shiro took a small step away from his teacher before bowing lightly.

He stepped away from the front and passed a few girls that giggled at him, he averted his eyes and quickly made his way to his seat. Curtis was leaning against his palm, elbow on the table. “Hey.” Curtis said again, Shiro sat his bag down. “Hey..” The boy grinned, “Fancy seeing you here.” It was stupid but he laughed at it anyway. -- Hiya! Sorry this one is a little short, I will have another post coming up later today though! (Please do feel free to point out any errors with Shiro's mannerisms. It's 2023 and I'm angry once again about the shitty writing in the last few seasons of Voltron.

Today's topic - Shiro. More specifically his romantic relationships - and the wasted potential.

I think I'm mostly annoyed at how the writing choices just don't make any sense to me. Specifically the part where they literally didn't give us any information about Shiro's love interests. Nothing. Like who does that? Who writes a romance where one half of the couple is entirely an unknown? They didn't do that for any other main ship in the show, only the lgbtq+ one and maybe it wasn't intentional but it kinda rubs me the wrong way.

Correct me if I'm remembering wrong but I think the one scene they show us of Shiro and Adam is in the midst of a fight - they don't really show their relationship in exactly a good light and it's the ONLY thing they give us of them. Why is that the only thing you show us. How did they meet? What was their relationship vibe? Milestones in their relationship, important moments, uh what kind of person Adam was? Anything? ANYTHING??

Don't get me wrong, all the Adam x Shiro fanart and speculations are absolutely amazing, and y'all are an absolute wonder, I hope everyone who does ship Adam x Shiro keep finding all the joy and happiness in that ship - but just, I find it personally hard to ship two people when I know vastly more about one of the people and nothing about the other. And there's some part of me that almost feels like Voltron did this on purpose. They put no effort into Adam and Shiro and it pisses me off. And then! They continue to put in zero effort, and kill Adam off! Okay fine! I guess he was just meant to be a side character, cannon fodder for Shiro's tragic backstory, WHATEVER I HATE IT BUT OKAY?!

BUT T H E N, they have the opportunity to start over again with another romance and they STILL DON'T SHOW US SHIT. Who does Shiro even marry wtf was his name? Curtis??????? DO WE KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THIS MAN. AN Y T H I N G. HOW MUCH SCREENTIME OF HIM DO WE GET, PRAY TELL. WHO IS CURTIS HUH. TELL ME ABOUT HIM, I AM ON MY KNEES. I AM ASKING FOR THE BARE MINIMUM HERE. CURTIS AND SHIRO AS A RELATIONSHIP DESERVES BETTER. PUT IN SOME DAMN EFFORT. WTF.

And I would perhaps be able to make my peace with it, if I didn't feel that they ignored literally the perfect candidate for a relationship with Shiro after Adam, with all of the foundations already fucking BUILT. It would have taken so little effort at that point to write a compelling relationship where BOTH characters are well known and loved. I am talking about MATT. Hear me out.

We actually KNOW Matt. We are fond of Matt. He is our meme lord. He is our bespectacled (or not so bespectacled anymore) badass. A rebel, a staff wielding king. And not only that, he has known Shiro for a damn long time. He was literally in the first scene of the show WITH Shiro. They worked together at the Academy and in the field, not knowing each other that well of course, but got thrown into that entire Galra kidnapping situation, protected each other in the field, lost contact, got reunited, became friends - meanwhile Matt became like, a ten bajillion times more confident in himself, more reassured, taken on a leadership role, a scenario where it could potentially lead to some people (AHEM perhaps a certain person with one arm) sitting up and taking notice after years of knowing the other person -

Like do not try and tell me that's not the perfect set up for a developing relationship. Someone you've known for a long time, circumstances push you to work together, get to know each other, save each other, and you get closer and eventually realize hey. I think I might like this person. That shifting dynamic, that developing relationship - what could be better? AND IT WAS BASICALLY ALREADY IN THERE. IT WAS SITTING RIGHT THERE, IT WAS XISNJSNJSBDJDNDNDBDND

Also they would be an absolute power couple, don't even lie to me.

Their personalities are so fucking compatible as well. Like Shiro's seriousness and competence and dry humour in contrast with Matt's endearingly nerdy brand of goofiness along with his own competence/skills? Can you imagine how adorable that would've been?

Not only that, Shiro is already basically Pidge's pseudo older brother. They have such strong sibling vibes, can you imagine how awesome it would've been if Shiro had actually become Pidge's brother in law???

Not to mention having Matt start up a relationship with Shiro - bisexual/pansexual representation.

All I wanted was SOME effort. Like, I would have been perfectly happy with Adam X Shiro or Curtis x Shiro if the writers had simply put in an ounce of effort into making it convincing. It's such lazy writing and it makes me so upset, thinking back on it. And it makes me even more upset realizing they could've made it amazing by picking a character that already has the perfect setup. the lack of effort almost feels intentional, because it wouldn't have even taken that much to make a convincing, well written relationship. ThIS is the representation you hinted at for so long? This is what we waited for? Are you fucking joking. I'm gonna riot, Shiro and Adam and Curtis deserved better.

I have a feeling thinking about this stuff is gonna make me spiral and sooner or later I'm gonna start ranting about the lack of effort they put into Allura and Lance as well And the lost potential of Klance of course

God, Voltron was such a shit show.

Well, I'm finally making a post about Voltron. Which I understand causes war flashbacks for a lot of you. But don't worry, I won't be talking about Klance, but I should mention that I will be talking about season 8, more specifically Shiro's relationship with Curtis.

I don't hate it.

It certainly wasn't good, and to the people who ship Shiro with Adam instead, that's incredibly valid. But the thing is, I think Shiro and Curtis could have really worked a lot better, the show just had to do a bunch of small things.

We barely see them interact, there are zero hints of a romance blooming between them, the closest that season 8 has to any sort of genuine interaction is Curtis being in the audience, cheering on Shiro when Shiro was arm wrestling. I get that a lot can change in ten years, and that's when their relationship really started, but it doesn't make for good storytelling. There's no development, so we have no interest in them.

As for the small things I was talking about. I would've loved it for hints at something going on with the two of them in season 8, even if it just was in the background. Seeing Curtis talking to friends, but then Curtis sees Shiro and gets visibly shy. Friends clearly teasing him about something, while Curtis blushes in response. Curtis and Shiro having a conversation in the background where there are signs that they are both a little flustered. There could also be things more in the foreground that are simple. Such as Shiro and Curtis having a conversation that isn't necessarily flirty, but shows closeness. Shiro making an off hand comment about how he has to go, because him and Curtis were planning to do something. Curtis giving Shiro a compliment in the vlog episode (or anywhere really).

I would've also loved something similar to what they did at the beginning of season 3 of The Owl House. Where there are photos, and maybe short scenes of what goes on in the ten year time skip. It would be the perfect place for Shiro and Curtis to be shown having fun together.

Literally, just choose like five of these things to do, and that's all it would take for me to become completely obsessed with them.

He can tell the difference.” Shiro’s lip twitched. ‘Probably because your apartment’s tap water tastes like dirt.’ His brain helpfully supplied, but he kept that to himself. “And another thing, he-” Shiro grabbed Keith’s shoulders. “Keith, I got it, I can look after a dog-” “Space wolf.” The young man cut in. “Space wolf, for a couple of hours.” He turned him around and patted his shoulders. “I know what to do if he teleports, I know what to feed him, and what kind of water to give him, now, go have fun before Lance starts thinking he got stood up.” He playfully pushed him, Keith grunted. “I’m going, I’m going.” He said but paused. “And-” “Keith, please.” Shiro crossed his arms. “It’s important.” He sighed. “Okay, what is it?” His brother turned to face him, his face suddenly serious, Shiro felt his jaw clench. “Kosmo needs a bath, real bad.” Shiro’s shoulders fell and he snorted. “Bath? Okay, that's all?” Keith frowned. “You don’t get it, Shiro. I’ve been meaning to do this for weeks now, and I was going to tonight but Lance-” The older of the two exhaled loudly. “Keith. I will look after Kosmo, he will be okay. Look Keith, I get it, It’s our first month back, things are still..” “Strange.” Keith offered. “Yeah, strange. But don’t let it stop you from having a little fun. You deserve a night out with your fiance.” His brother flushed. “We’re not engaged.” Shiro rolled his eyes and pulled him towards the door, “You will be soon if I have anything to say about it.” He opened the door and nudged him out, Keith stumbled before whipping around, scowling. “Now, hurry up before Lance texts you something like; ‘It’s rude to keep your date waiting.’” Keith made a face of disbelief, clearly trying to choose between smiling and scowling. “You-” Before he could get anything else out. “I’ll call you if anything goes wrong!” And promptly slammed the door. 

Shiro locked the door and took a few steps back from his front door. “Jeez, I thought he’d never leave.” He murmured, a small smile creeping onto his face. He could look after a teleporting dog for a couple of hours, no sweat. He rounded the corner and entered the living room and was met face to face with the man- dog of the hour. He was sitting obediently like Keith left him, his eyes looked way too intelligent for Shiro’s comfort. He cleared his throat, he didn’t realize how unsettling the wolf’s stare was until it was just them staring back at each other. ‘Creepy.’ He thought but cleared his head, that’s not something he should think. The man suddenly felt foolish. “Okay, right, let’s get you some food.” His ears perked up but he stayed stationary. Shiro blinked before thinking back to what Keith told him. “Right, trigger words. Uh, Drvak?” The pronunciation was butchered but the wolf stood, padding into the kitchen, Shiro decided not to dwell on how he knew where that was. 

“What are you feeling? Chicken or, wow this stuff is fancy.” He whistled lowly, the dog perked up and made a noise at him. “Oh, sorry I wasn’t- my bad, no random whistling, got it.” He stumbled out like he was talking to a person. He patted the wolf on his head, he lowered his ears but didn’t shift away, that’s probably a good sign. “Right, food.” He turned to the counter. . After the wolf had eaten his dinner, he settled on the couch. Shiro figured he should give him a minute to digest before trying to drag him to the bath, but he’s had his rest and they just needed to get this over. He stood up suddenly, which seemed to startle the wolf who looked at him questioningly. “Kosmo.” He turned to the canine, the wolf somehow looked unnerved. He cleared his throat, he didn’t want to scare him, so he relaxed and made a beckoning motion. “Come here, Kosmo.” The wolf made a face. “Don’t look so suspicious!” He groaned, the wolf begrudgingly got off the couch, “Alright.. I know you don’t like them but,” They were standing outside the bathroom, he took a careful step towards him. “You need a bath- Oh, no you don’t!” He lunged at the wolf before he teleported them. He was hanging onto him around the neck, he felt grass on his ankles so he assumed they were outside. He looked up and saw his house, so they were just in the yard. “Kosmo.” He said warningly. They were back in the house, the kitchen this time. “Okay, okay.” He said it like he was speaking to a person. “Just a quick wash, come on, Keith doesn’t have time to do it himself.” Kosmo perked up at Keith’s name. Bingo. “Yeah, Keith thinks you should have a bath..” Kosmo’s ears lowered and he made an awfully expressive face. “What about, uh, Key words.” He thought before holding up his index finger. “Bath, treat, Keith.” The wolf’s ear twitched but he still seemed to be considering. Silence stretched between the two, Shiro wasn’t sure what he was expecting. “..Treat now, then bath, then another treat, and then Keith will be back.” The wolf gave a ‘boof’ of agreement. His tail now wagging as Shiro defeatedly went to grab the treats. “This is going to be a headache, isn’t it?” He murmured Although it was nice to see the look of relief on Keith’s face when he was returned to a perfectly groomed alien wolf. It wasn’t going to be nice to explain to his boyfriend why his drain is full of ‘dog’ hair that’s electric blue.
