Because of Changfengdu, i feel like i need to make a list or introductions of the author's novel (墨书白)
The ML's usually crazily devoted and the FL is crazily competent. I will write some of her historical ones first. (English is not my 1st language, so sorry if there's some mistake)
I'll tag @dangermousie and @mercipourleslivres, maybe you guys can enjoy some of this!
长公主 (The Grand Princess)
This one is a double rebirth story of a princess and her estranged husband. They both died (at age 50's) thinking they killed each other. They born in a time before they married. In their new life they started as friends.
Our FL is Li Rong, is a prideful princess and in the 1 st life married our ML Pei Wen Xuan because he's the most handsome XD. The emotional part of this novel feels so delicate and raw. The longings, remorse, regret, especially from the ML really hook me up. The bloody drama also not only come from the main couple but basically everyone. There's no such a thing as npc chara, everyone have their own purpose. I know many people said Li Rong don't deserve Pei Wen Xuan ( nahh do we read the same novel?) Both are at faults. This one is not for the faint heart. Last time i heard they will adapt this into a drama with Zhao Jinmai and Wang Anyu, i don't want them to touch this.
山河枕 (Mountain river pillow aka the eldest wife is my wife)
This one is a rebirth story. Our FL Chuyu already married the 2nd ML in her 1st life. But her love was wasted and her husband didn't treat her right. After being reborn, she choose to married her supposed to be husband, Wei Jun (the eldest son of a border general). You know what happened to the generals who lives in the border right? Right, scapegoat of the politics in the capital.
Short story, the wei general and his 6 son died (including Chu Yu husband) as a traitor in battlefield leaving the youngest son Wei Yun bring his father and brothers coffin. The real story begin here as Chu yu keep helping Wei Yun to keep the Wei family legacy.
Poor Wei Yun, is all that i can say :p.
From the news i see Song Qian and Ding Yuxi name, please just no :(.
论撩世家子的技巧 (the trick to teasing a noble family son)
This is not the famous one but WORTH READING. Oh and this a crossdressing novel. Our FL Wei Lan is a reborn, but not from your usual world. She came from a matriarcal world, when women is the leader in society and men task is in the backyard. When she came to the her new world, the 1st thing she do is change identity with his brother. Yes you hear me right, Wei lan become the brother and her brother Wei Hua become the sister. Our ML is Xie Zichen, also a reborn. He died being betrayed by the prince that he supported.
This novel is hilarious in the beginning as Wei Lan feels like douchebag, and feels that women is far superior than men. She FLIRT a lot. Because her thoughtfulness, all of these men of course being tempted. Our ML too think like that but reverse. But don't worry there's chara development from everyone, i cried a lot and too be honest my fav chara is one of the FL suitor who end up died.
I change my mind, i'll write her Xianxia and modern too here XD.
琢玉 (Carven Jade)
One of my fav danmei together with Yuwu. Our Gong is Fu ChangLing and Shou is Qin Yan (ma babies). This is a rebirth story. In the 1st life Fu Changling killed Qin Yan out of revenge and hate thinking that he is the one who killed his family and bring demise to the cultuvation world, little did he know that Qin Yan did all of that for him.
After being reborn Fcl did everything to keep Qin Yan safe and sound. I love how devoted they are to each other. All the support characters also great. I really love the parents story too.
剑寻千山 (sword of searching mountain)
This is a broken reunion story. Our FL Qin wanwan and our ML Xie Changji were married. The FL didn't know that our ML cultivated the heart of sword way ( the way of being indifferent, throw away feelings and other desires), she think the ML doesn't love her.
Our ML lives with sadness and trauma for hundred years. Our FL sects also meet a demise around this time and it so so sad. This novels feels emotionally heavy.
Xie ChangJi is up there for me for Crazyily masochist obsessed devoted ML. This one is not my fav but have some really good part. All the support chara also awesome.
余生有涯 (rest of my life)
TW : R&pe, Suicid*
This is a modern setting novel but being the heaviest of the bunch. Definitely not for everyone. This is a realistic novel about our FL Ye Sibei who is getting r*pe after office drinking party. Usually her husband pick her up, but he didn't do it on that day.
This is very hard to read for me, only 39 chapters with knife in it. Felt very real, the one that didn't felt real was her husband Qin Nan (definitely doesn't exist). Do not recomend ro read this when you're feeling down. But very uplifting.

Notes from Re-watch #?
The scriptwriters continue to amaze me as I dig deeper into things that are set up and referred back to:
I find it interesting that Xiao Lanhua’s conversation with Changheng - when he tries to call her to her responsibilities as the Goddess while she is still XLH – ends up foreshadowing her choice when she does have to be the Goddess.
“I am (Orchid), not the Goddess of Xishan. It’s like when you are Xiao Run, not Changheng. Xiao Run doesn’t need to bear the burden of Changheng, because they are not the same person.”
Because the way she handles actually becoming the Goddess of Xishan is a reflection of that conversation. She didn’t need to bear the Goddess’s burden while she was still (only) XLH, but as soon as they revive her with all of her memories, she takes responsibility for who she is.
As she told Tuanwu, she “saw what she needed to see: the three realms, her love with DFQC, her friendships with people in all three realms (I’d say Xiao Run and Xie Wanqing can count as mortal friends) and lost what she needed to lose – the fulfillment of her love. Because she got to live her dream of being DFQC’s wife, even if it wasn’t in “reality” – at the end of the day, it was real enough for her. And now that DFQC has chosen to leave their dream, she has to also accept his choice and become her Goddess self with the inherent responsibilities of protecting the three realms from Tai Sui.
Ironically, Changheng is just as offended by how she acts as the Goddess as he was by XLH not immediately accepting her responsibilities as part of the Xilan tribe. And yet he is also able to make the choice to be Xiao Run later on so that he can be happier as well.
Second, when DFQC is being yanked around by XLH at Simingdian at the beginning, he rages to Shangque that he’ll become her servant for real if she realizes the power the curse gives her over him. Of course, later on, he desperately wants to be her servant both for the reason of staying by her side, and because he actually DOES want to care for her in every way he can. Instead of furious at his servitude, he actually wants to serve his beloved. The contrast is just *chef’s kiss*
Slight crack thoughts:
Can we talk about Changheng’s sucky choices in friends? Through no fault of his own!! Ronghao’s been lying to him for as long as they’ve been friends (when they met at Chidi’s memorial) and tries to kill the girl he’s in love with. Dongfang is deceiving him in regards to why they’re hanging out in the mortal realm (though there were definitely times of true friendship between them), and though I wouldn’t count him as a friend, his servant Qingchun is constantly interrupting his chances of getting somewhere with Xiao Lan Hua and recalling him to his duties.
Honestly, his friendship with Danyin as both Cricket and herself when she gets over him is probably going to be the most healthy relationship he’s had, which should give him a good balance for when DFCQ comes back (and is going to be mostly occupied with his wife).
As terrible as Yun Zhong is as a leader, I’ve got to laugh at how many prisoners escaped in a three month period. I would guess the last 30,000 years were pretty peaceful if you were just living in Shui Yun Tian and not experiencing the constant attacks that Changheng was leading against the Moon Tribe, but you’ve got:
Dongfang Qingcang (though it takes a while for them to realize this)
The other nameless criminals who escaped when he destroyed Haotian Tower
Changheng
Ronghao
Ronghao again
Technically Chidi was under house arrest, pending execution? And Ronghao absconded with her
I would hope the trend would continue with Li Yuan being broken out, maybe by Changheng to repay Danyin for helping him out twice? I’d hate for that guy to be dead when less worthy people are still alive and free (*ahem* Yun Zhong)
The only person who doesn’t escape their punishment is Yulin, because she doesn’t have any real friends to either help her or blackmail someone who can help her. I wonder if her mother even had time to try and save her; she seemed to be taken straight from Fairy Court to her execution/immortal bones being removed. Which, eugh, just trying to think of what that would entail is terrible.
One of XLH and DFQC’s first conversations is about how stealing someone’s job is like killing one’s mother.
So when she sacrifices herself for his people, when it was his job, I think beyond the agony of losing her, he’s also frustrated that he couldn’t fulfill his duty by himself. On the other hand, I think XLH could’ve seen it as fulfilling her duty as the Moon Supreme’s wife & partner – saving the people she chose as her own.
And then finally he goes and steals “her job” – her destiny - as both an act of love to save her, and (tongue in cheek) either stealing her job as revenge OR taking her burden on as her husband.
Without intentionally trying to stay balanced, they nevertheless do balance out their sacrifices for each other because their love is just that all-encompassing.

So, as I’ve mentioned somewhere around here I’ve started watching „Legend of Fei“. After that it’ll be „Douluo Continent“, but for now LoF seems like the easier option since it’s basically complete on Viki. (And yes I got a Viki pass for this because YouTube also had obnoxious ads and that just won’t do.)
Anyway, so far I’m really enjoying it! Zhou Fei is entertaining and I still don’t know how old she’s supposed to be, but I assume it’s something between 16 and 20. I like her even though she’s a bit stand-offish and tends to be mean to Xie Yun, who is a fucking delight, okay. But I’m willing to give her the benefit of the doubt, since she’s likely a teenager who has no fucking clue how to react to someone flirting with her and obviously grew up suuuuper sheltered.
Like, so sheltered that she does not get the implications of wearing Xie Yun’s gift around her neck. She has this cute conversation with Wu ChuChu, who is the sweetest girl seriously, and during it she decides to make a necklace out of that gift. Chuchu’s like, „Hey what’s that?“ and A-Fei is like, „Someone gave it to me.“ (obviously not meaning her parents), and Chuchu’s eyes go big and she’s like, „Uhm you do know what it means when you wear such a gift?“ And A-Fei just looks confused and has no fucking clue. So Chuchu’s just goes internally, „OMG she doesn’t know! Do I tell her? Nahhh, she’ll get there on her own.“ XD
Xie Yun constantly makes heart eyes at Zhou Fei and is just awesome and super likable in general. He’s the kind of guy who’ll sit around in a prison (for six months I guess!) because a) he’s curious what’s going on there, b) he was with Wu ChuChu and her little brother at the time and knows some evil guys are after them, and c) he just doesn’t have anything better to do and the food isn’t that bad.
And I don’t know which of those reasons was the most important one. XD
I think he’s already decided that Zhou Fei will be his wife because she’s awesome and he likes awesome and pretty women. I enjoy their dynamic, because it’s for once the cliché of „mean unapproachable guy has that one woman fawn over him because she sees the good in him“ but turned around and with much more likeable characters.
I don’t know anything about the plot. I know some bits about characters but that’s it. So this is really… quite something.
Like, I guess there’s a war… coming? Or already happening somewhere? There definitely was a war in the past. And the evil guys of Disha are after some kind of McGuffins I guess. Which is why they try to catch Wu Chuchu and her brother.
Then there’s another possible evil, definitely weird guy all in red, who has some feud with the Disha guys.
But really, the villains from Disha are… all over the place. Their leader Shen .. *looks the name up* Tianshu has a lot of gravitas and always talks very quietly, like, okay, I don’t understand what you’re saying anyway but could you please speak up? And his subordinate - or younger brother? - or just the master under him, I’m not really sure, anyway, that guy is so OTT in everything he does. Every movement, every expression, the way he speaks screams EVIL VILLAIN WHO IS EVIL, right from 60s Batman I guess. XD He also has an eyepatch.
I think Disha seems to be a lot of… infighting? Like, several of the masters have ambitions to be the leader but for now it’s the oldest guy? But then he had a staring contest with one of the masters, and I was like, WTF are you doing? Why are you narrowing your eyes at each other? In close up? That went on really long, so I guess the younger one was kinda challenging Shen Tianshu? I guess we’ll see about all that later.
I love Zhou Fei’s parents, especially her mother. She’s the same type of character like Yu Ziyuan in „The Untamed“, BTW, so if you want to get a better read on this kind of character I think this show is really good. Because there’s a lot of tough love going on there, the mother is reserved and not exactly overflowing with compliments and praise. But there are also scenes where you see that she loves her daughter and is proud of her.
I’ve only seen 6 eps so far, I’ve got no idea where this is going (well okay, the credits tell me there will be some big fight against Disha and Zhou Fei/Xie Yun is endgame but other than that?). What’ll happen with Zhou Fei’s cousin who kinda feels underappreciated, what are those McGuffins etc. There are also several older characters around who seem to belong to other sects but it seems that these sects are in decline.
I also love the end credits song. ♥

Nirvana in Fire Character Reference Sheet Roughly in the Order Those Characters Are Introduced
For @howdydowdy, as promised, and for anyone else who, like me, is terrible at names and needs some kind of “Who?? Ohhh right. That guy.” reminder.
Basically, my Nirvana in Fire Journey started with me watching half the first episode, being wildly confused, realizing I was in over my head re: names and thus deciding to go back to the beginning and watch it again But Taking Notes This Time. I watched the whole show with a notebook and pen at my side. I figured I may as well spare you all the labour by typing it up.
As more information was revealed, I often added it to a character’s initial note, but by and large I’m leaving those extra notes out so you can experience the joy and confusion and anguish of New Information yourself. The exception to this is generally a person’s name, title, and position. E.g. Duke Qing’s name, Bai Ye, isn’t mentioned until a number of episodes after he’s first mentioned, if I recall correctly, but knowing that the person named “Bai Ye” is the same person called “Duke Qing” is exactly why I took these notes for myself in the first place.
Basically this isn’t intended to be a character guide that lays out exactly who a person is, their relationships to the other characters, and their place in the story, but rather something you can look at whenever someone mentions a name that jogs your memory just enough for you to be able to place to person. Which is why the notes tend to be either the context in which the person was introduced or the relationship through which they’re introduced.
Some names and notes are inherently spoilers, but hopefully by virtue of the fact that this is broadly in the order a character is first mentioned/introduced, you can avoid spoilers simply by not scrolling down too far. For those persons where their name or an alter ego comes in significantly after their initial introduction and is a spoiler, they are listed a second time starting with the “new information” and with the note in italics indicating their original entry (there aren’t a lot of these, don’t worry).
I will readily admit that some of my handwritten notes are just a name and then a blank space because apparently I just never actually added a note for them. I haven’t bothered adding those people here. Yes it’s because I’ve forgotten entirely who they are, but I’m pretty sure that means you’ll be okay if you immediately forget who they are too. (That being said, I get the sense there are actually relevant people missing from this list. As the show carried on and introductions became less frequent, remembering them became less difficult.)
The List
Lin Xie –> Commander of the Chiyan Army
Lin Shu –> “Xiao-Shu” –> Lin Xie’s son –> Mei Changsu --> Chief of the Jiangzuo Alliance --> Su Zhe
Lin Chen –> Young Master of Langya Hall –> NOTE: The “Lin” of Lin Chen and the “Lin” of Lin Xie & Lin Shu are both written and pronounced differently. These people are not related.

Prince Yu –> Xiao Jinghuan –> 5th Prince of Da Liang
Xiao Xuan –> Emperor of Da Liang
Empress Yan --> Prince Yu’s adoptive mother

Zhuo Dingfeng --> Master of Tianquan Manor
Zhuo Qingyao --> Eldest son of Zhuo Dingfeng --> guy on the horse and later the guy helping the old couple on the boat and later also the guy who calls Xie Yu “father-in-law” (I am telling you this specifically because I am not bad at faces but this guy added so much confusion to my life that was cleared up the moment I realized these people were the same person. And also because my mother is terrible at faces and for like 15 episodes every time he showed up in another random place I would say “that’s horse and boat guy” and she would say “wait what? really???” So I’m assuming at least one other person will share in this struggle)

@loriache (replying here bc the post is getting super long haha)
i am adding qi ye to the list thank you 👀 and yes i have a feeling i will be a lot more enthusiastic about jwqs than i was about fgep... fgep’s story in and of itself was fine, it’s actually exactly what i obsess over, i just don’t like when there is too much exposition and not enough in media res, and i felt like fgep was just 90% exposition so i got bored pretty quickly.
haha yunlan is so misogynistic too in how he treats her, it sounds backwards but i like that about their relationship. just dismissing her, saying she’s pretty and kind and she’ll find some guy, and at other times just calling her “woman” or making comments about her being on her period, and at the same time remembering to care for her in the practical way (preparing rice wine while they’re around river village in the snow bc she’s cold-blooded and might start hibernating). he’s not uncaring, he’s just an ass. stuff like this for some reason makes me a lot more interested than male characters being perfect wifeguys or woman respecters, but that’s just me lmao... snake wife i am here i will be the guy for you
I LOVE LEGEND OF FEI!!! a’fei climbed up the fav heroine ladder SO fast for me, i love “introverted easy-going yet lethally good at what they do” female characters like that... especially in a main character spot... and xie yun is such a fun male lead too. their rs is perfect in every way. the “i consider you my best friend” line will stay with me forever, i LOVE m/f romance made entirely out of friendship. they bicker, they laugh, they understand and trust each other, they are completely at ease. they have their own subplots away from each other that do or do not necessitate the other’s intervention, and during which neither ever feels like a simple extra. even when angst strikes and threatens to put an end to it, they’re both stubborn about it... also i have to say duan jiuniang joined the eternal wife crew, as well as phoenix master (whom i read entirely as a trans woman but once again this is just me)

i thought it’d be fun to write a post about my thoughts about legend of fei and my experience watching it! if you’ve been following me since i started watching this show you’ll know i’ve been enjoying it a lot and i definitely recommend it if you like romance dramas and historical fantasy genres. however, the show wasn’t perfect and i think it’d be interesting to discuss those things as well. tldr; i do not think a show has to be ‘perfect’ to be good or enjoyable. is it not enough to have wang yibo play a man so bisexual and so singularly devoted to his bisexual blade wielding wife?
disclaimer: i have not read the book it’s based on and i never will
first off, here’s why i loved legend of fei:
the healthy and natural romance progression between xie yun and zhou fei. there’s no weird miscommunication or possessive or otherwise unhealthy behaviour from either of them (except for that one time xie yun used knock out drugs on zhou fei without her knowledge or consent... that sucked). their relationship is based on a healthy foundation of mutual trust, respect, admiration, and of course, banter. and it’s really refreshing to see such a wholesome and gentle relationship with an m/f couple!
the ROMANCE. literally any time xie yun holds a monologue about how much he loves zhou fei. the scene where xie yun does zhou fei’s hair and says he just wants to do her hair for the rest of his life. the almost kiss when theyre at madam nichang’s place. the longing glances. the way they would both die for each other. the way they keep feeding each other food. the entirety of the lantern scene. the red dress. xie yun writing poetry for zhou fei. i can go on
really good and interesting relationship dynamics, and not just between romantic couples! for example: yang jin/li yan/ying hecong, zhou fei and her parents, madam nichang and zhou fei+xie yun, etc. the only drawback is i wish some relationships were explored more, such as yang jin + xie yun, li yan + xie yun, zhou fei + li sheng, li yan + wu chuchu, wu chuchu and... literally everyone except li sheng tbh
this show pushes the bisexual AND the men get pegged agendas and i think that’s very sexy
milfs! women with swords! women without swords or martial art skills still being badass and interesting!
it’s so fucking funny at times. the bath scene where xie yun thinks zhou fei is going to bathe him but she saddles him up with li sheng. the whole episode where the third prince comes to propose to zhou fei, thinking he actually has a chance, and zhou fei using this to tease xie yun. that time xie yun walked into a tree because he was too busy making eyes at zhou fei. ‘i sell talent, not my body’. when zhou fei is like ‘is it illegal to hit the emperor’ and xie yun is like ‘it’s just as illegal as hitting a commoner’ and zhou fei is like ‘good’ and hits him
the unlikely alliance between zhou fei and mu xiaoqiao... that’s her gay uncle! i wish they had more scenes together tbh. also i wish they didn’t use a gay stereotype for a character that’s initially a villain and then dies unceremoniously but also i wouldn’t like him so much if he wasn’t so obviously gay
it’s a given that i love xie yun and zhou fei but i think a surprise fave for me was yang jin, so he deserves a bullet point for himself. i just think he’s delightful. he shows his love and respect by challenging people to a fight. he rubs the back of his head when he’s embarrassed. he’s shy. he’s a himbo. he has a single earring. his blade is huge and has rings pierced into it. his outfits are my favourite of the whole show. he’s bisexual. he has a gf AND a bf. what’s not to love
some things i didn’t really like:
shaky cam and really rough editing in some sections. it’s not always the case and i usually don’t really care about this stuff but some episodes really could’ve been edited better. the scenes at the end of yin pei’s storyline with eyepatch guy were so badly done (but i barely care bc i hate yin pei and i’m glad they rushed those scenes lmao)
the pacing is kinda weird? the build up is very slow at first and it left some things feeling vaguely unresolved. the final battle was over very quick, i expected some more tense moments and problem solving. all in all i think the plot couldve been more condensed, they didn’t need 51 episodes of 50 minutes. also there are some straight up plot holes, like what happened to chuchu’s brother in the end? but i know they had to rush filming because of the pandemic, so who knows what the original intent was
the sidelining of wu chuchu :( i loved how early on in the show she was hanging out with xie yun and zhou fei a lot and i really liked their dynamic. i feel like her character was kind of wasted as soon as they paired her up with li sheng. she still had her moments and i love a lesbian queen but i feel like she could have done a lot more. imagine if she had been with zhou fei and xie yun while xie yun was recovering in penglai. she couldve taken care of xie yun in zhou fei’s absence and served as emotional support for zhou fei. i miss my polycule :(
the entire character of the third prince. he was literally only there to get kidnapped, ruin plans, and propose to zhou fei out of nowhere lmao. at least the latter made for a pretty funny episode
anything to do with yin pei. he barely contributed anything to the plot tbh? you could cut him out and it wouldn’t fucking matter. the decisions he made were incomprehensible. gay legend yin wenlan didn’t adopt this bitch and then died for him to be such a fucking bastard
honestly i thought it was kinda anticlimactic how the heroes and the villains were all looking for the same thing and it was this huge mystery. and you were wondering why the villains were after this thing. and then it turns out it’s just a way to make like, super sharp swords so they can conquer the world. idk it fell kind of flat for me. but then i didn’t get into this show because of the plot if i’m honest lmao

i understand that lof forces a romance between zhou fei and xie yun but i want you to know that it’s Wrong, xie yun is a wonderful gay twink looking for adventures and love, he just wants to have fun with his lesbian best friend zhou fei and also meet a hot guy he could be a male wife for.

On to Eps 17 + 18!
Yay for Wu ChuChu going with Li Sheng. He at least seems a bit more capable than General Wen, so that’s something! (I mean, going by the show that... doesn’t seem to be difficult. XD)
Oh oh big drama in Hengyang. Xie Yun meets up with Madam Nichang of the, uhm, Feather Robe Theatre Troupe. She seems to also be some kind of master and is supposed to be the only one who can help Zhou Fei. It’s not very clear, but it seems this will come at quite the cost for herself (will this be another old master that dies after meeting Zhou Fei? XD). At least several of her girls from the troupe aren’t happy about it.
And of course Disha is also there killing off Madam Nichang’s people. *sighsigh*
Laughed a lot at Wang Yibo in old man make up. That actually wasn’t so bad!
Tumblr media
It was also really telling that XY is very bad at hiding his feelings for Zhou Fei. Madam Nichang immediately saw through his act („She’s my sister!“ uhuh) and  was all, „She must mean sooo much to you.“ Yeah well, pls rescue her! “Nope.” :((
And of course Li Zheng, the bestest man to ever live, also helped Madam Nichang in the past and so she’s in his debt and will help Zhou Fei now anyway. That man sure got around helping people, huh?
Sooo, from one moment to the next it’s suddenly night? Okay.
And oh well Zhou Fei, can’t you for once just stay put? Making everyone (XY) worry about you! That poor man was beside himself!
And ugh there’s Shen Tianshu again, being all smug and smirky in Madam Nichang’s courtyard. I loved how Md. Nichang was all snarky, like, „Just standing here talking to you has taken away half of my strength already.“ I feel you.
There’s the Hai Tian Yi Se again, the mystery McGuffin of this show! At least STS believed her enough to let it go for now. So we now know that it’s some awesome kind of treasure with some cool magical abilities or so.
Also: Md. Nichang is sooooo pretty! <3
Tumblr media
I loved Zhou Fei in that blue dress, that looked beautiful! XY was all hearteyes again, gazing adoringly at his future wife, and she’s like, pouting, “Where are my usual clothes?“ *poutpout* Awww hell.
And there’s that bit of dialogue, XY going, „I only want to be a maid doing my future wife’s hair.“ <3 And Zhou Fei is all like, „This is so ugly.“  OMG the tomboy cliché! XD She even hides behind a veiled hat because she’s so uncomfortable in pretty girl clothes. XDD
I really liked the bit where XY explains the differences between all the masters of martial arts, and that Zhou Fei actually isn’t doing badly at all! Because she of course is like, “Fighting was so difficult, I messed up so much, I was so bad at it.“ And he’s all reassuring like, “Baby sweetheart love of my life, you did not fight some inconsequential z-grade guys like everyone else who starts out; you fought some of the best masters that are currrently alive. Cut yourself some slack, queen.“
Oh no Li Yan roaming freely through a city! XD I at first thought she’s in the same city as A-Fei but it seems that she’s in Hengyuan while A-Fei is in HengYang? I hope that’s right. Anyway she is definitely resourceful and meets another likely important character, Yang Jin (he’s got a poster). Who seems to not have many braincells but als felt bad about knocking her out. They were made for each oher, right? XD

xie yun is adorkable hero who loves his wife idk where this malewife nonsense comes from. but li sheng IS just some guy and yang jin is peak himbo no doubt about that
absolutely you get it
on a serious note i do understand where the malewife stuff is coming from, it would be disingenuous of me to pretend i have no clue why people are using that term. especially in regards to xie yun, i know it’s nice to see a dude that actually cares about his wife and likes to do typically ‘feminine’ stuff like doing her hair, cooking, and writing poetry (although i am aware these things are judged as 'feminine' mostly from a western viewpoint). i just think the use of the term malewife has gotten incredibly out of hand and has circled back to stereotyping particular kind of male character (especially if they’re gay and/or asian!). this, on top of the fact that terfs have started to use malewife as yet another way to talk about trans women, just makes me uncomfortable and i think it’s time to take a step back and think about that

I’m sorry, it’s been a bit slow going because of ~Reasons but I’ve at least  managed eps 13 + 14!
Awww Li Sheng has “read some books”. Good for you! XD But seriously, what else was there to do at 48 Strongholds except sword training and book reading? Anyway, the bad guy in Li Sheng’s current arc is smirk king Feng Wuyan (Wuyuan?), and it seems that Li Sheng is actually making some kind of progress.
Yin Pei is still jumping between shouting and crying, gets called “A-Pei” by Ji Yunchen. That’s... awfully familiar. Hmmm.
General Wen wants Xie Yun to come back (to court?) but XY is... conflicted I guess. So it’s backstory time! He’s actually Xiao Chuan (or Zhuang? the wikis are not clear here), born to the prince of the former dynasty (so his grandpa was the emperor?) and then there was rebellion or sth, everyone’s dead, but that nice eunuch rescued little infant XY. And then General Wen brought him back... someday because they wanted to get that family back as emperor I guess, then there was a hostage exchange with the neighbour like, “please let’s not fight again yeah?” and then there was another rebellion, and now there’s the new dynasty where Chen Zichen is now a prince. I guess. Well I guess I’m close enough in recapping this.
Yet again, I love Chuchu! Everyone’s just sending her from one place to the next like, “Deal with it”, and now she puts her foot down! “I only trust A-Fei, I’m not an object, so please don’t pass me around like one.” ♥
Tumblr media
OMG Xie Yun whining at A-Fei’s door and begging! XD Also, then he’s sad because Zhou Fei is.. well, not exactly winning at empathy. XD
Great how Zheng Luosheng (the Azure Dragon Master, and really, those 4 Mountain Masters have really cool names) is like “Nah we’ll not fight” at first and then sees two hot young women and is like, “Hm changed my mind, let’s fight, I want them.” Wow. *eyeroll*
XY: “Yay I’m eloping with a pretty girl!” ZF: “Is it forbidden to hit the emperor?” (asking for a friend) XD
Oookay there is slowly some backstory emerging for Yin Pei. Thank you but I feel it would have more impact if we’d known him before. He’s crying all the time so it’s all very sad, I’m sure. He’s the descendant of Yin Wenlan, who is another cool awesome super swordmaster!
WTF Zheng Luosheng has... a mouse?! Seriously? (And thanks again for telling us that this obvious CGI mouse isn’t real.) Also, I guess the inn owner (who was also some important master) sacrifices himself? Seems like it anyway.
I love how XY simply always knows everything about anyone and anything! XD King of exposition and then acting innocent as if he never said anything at all. XD
Tumblr media
Also, Yin Pei is super annoyed by all the flirting. XD I’m not sure if I should like him or be irritated by him. We’ll see. But I think he is one of the main cast so he will be there for quite a while.
What I noticed at times: You can see the actors breath in some of the outdoor scenes. I looked it up and they shot from Sept 2019 till April 2020 with a break in there. Well, seems that it was at times really cold.
Ep 14 brings us backstory on Yin Pei and Ji Yunchen (finally!). So Ji Yunchen was an arrogant youth (as ... almost everyone seems to be in this show if they aren’t cute) whose master Guan Feng (the Blade of the North - to Li Zheng’s Blade of the South) had warned him to cross the border to the south but JYC went anyway. He also challenged pretty much anyone he met and killed them because he was just that awesome and skilled and arrogant. He hears some people gossip about how awesomely awesome Yin Wenlan is and goes to challenge him. As you do.
Interlude for A-Fei feeling insecure and inferior because all the great masters she knows (her mother, 9th Madam Duan, Ji Yunchen) did cool shit when they were her age and what does she do? Yeah right nothing, she thinks. XY notices immediately that A-Fei is sad. ♥
Anyway back to tragic backstory. It seems Yin Wenlan fought Guan Feng back in the day and bested him which Ji Yunchen can’t let slide; he wants revenge for his master’s humiliation. So he kidnaps YWL’s son (as you fucking do) who just so happens to be Yin Pei. YWL shows up, they fight, he bests JYC even though he was already heavily injured from a fight with Disha shortly before, and then someone tells him that his whole clan just got attacked. I have to wonder about this timing, seriously. And I assume this was not a coincidence. XY definitely implies that there’s sth fishy about it. When Ji Yunchen brings Yin Pei back to his family the whole clan is indeed slaughtered including YWL. Very sad. :( So JYC becomes Yin Pei’s foster father and feels very bad about it all. Then Yin Pei finds out about the circumstances (how?) and joins Azure Dragon Master.
XY says some good and kind stuff, but JYC wants to keep wallowing and YP is a bitch. Ah well. There’s some flirting with A-Fei until she notices that she has been nice to XY for about 10 minutes and steps on his foot. “I get mad just looking at you.”
Uhuh.
Tumblr media
I just love how Zhou Fei is always, always in “Fight me!” mode. XD
Azure Dragon Master with those loud gongs. This is not actually a stealthy way to stalk someone. XD
Excuuuuuse me, the “fragrance smelling mouse”?!?! What is this shit?! And thank you, A-Fei, for voicing my thoughts. He could’ve mentioned that!
XY does what he does best: Talk. XD And you can never know for sure if he’s serious or not. But I think the stuff with the sword is true and he just backtracks later on. Also he’s like, “Yep I’m royalty” but never wants to elaborate and ppl just accept it. XD
Anyway, for anyone who wants to ship it (I don’t see it so far but who knows):
Tumblr media
Ahhh and there’s the bit with XY going, “Why is A-Fei covering for us! Does she want to kill off my future offspring?!” XD In his imagination they’ve been married for a while, have a house, he cooks for her and combs her hair and dotes on his beautiful heroine of a wife feeding her grapes or something. XD
At least A-Fei now notices that there’s something going on between them, too. Well, kinda. “I trust him. Is it because of his good-looking face?” Hmmm IDK A-Fei, is it? XD
So okay Yin Pei seems to have his own agenda and they’re confronting him about it. In the cool cave that is definitely totally trustworthy and not dangerous at all I guess. XD

Movies watched in 2021: Shang-Chi
Tumblr media
This movie was fucking awesome! I loved everything about it, even the third act that seems to be a bit... controversial? IDK, I thought it was great!
Shaun (Simu Liu) and his best friend Katy (Awkwafina) lead an unambitious life, working for a hotel and having fun at karaoke bars at night. That is, until Shaun's past catches up to him and several bad guys attack him during a bus ride. They work for his father, Xu Wenwu (Tony Leung), leader of the Ten Rings, a group of highly skilled assassins. Shaun had left this life behind, but when his sister Xianling (Meng'er Zhang) is threatened, he has to stop hiding away in America and has to face his past.

I was inspired by @pumpkinpaix‘s wonderful idea of posting about “joyful objects” - objects that make you happy, no matter if old or new, if expensive or not. :D
This is a keychain with tail hair of our two horses. I commissioned it from a lovely jewellery maker that specialises in making necklaces, rings, bracelets etc. with horse tail hair as a special memento to perhaps remember a beloved animal after its death, or just as a pretty token of a horse that’s still alive.
My mother and I used to have two horses. My mare died four years ago; she’d had a long history of illness and actually was doing much better until a sudden severe colic ended her life. She was 24 and I’d had her for almost 18 years. We had some troubled times as she wasn’t the easiest of horses. I guess you could say she had character. XD But I loved her nonetheless. It was difficult letting her go, even though I’d had to come to terms with it much earlier because of her illness. It was expected that she wouldn’t live that many years longer, but the colic was sudden.
My mother’s gelding died last December. He was almost 31 years old, so a very old age for a warmblood, and with us for twenty years. He was still doing pretty all right for his age, too, and the day before his death he’d rolled around in the grass happily. But the next day he couldn’t get up anymore and even meds didn’t get him on his feet again. Considering that we’ve had a very wet and uncomfortable winter and also a rainy, weird summer, I’m kind of glad that he didn’t have to suffer through that weather anymore. He went after a surprisingly warm and sunny December day, where he’d been fussed over and gotten the last of the good grass.
They both are running free on the eternal pasture now and I’m sure they’re very happy there.
I commissioned several pieces with their tail hair, but the keychain is the first that combines both of them. It hangs from my rearview mirror in my car, so I see it pretty much every day. I plan on getting more jewellery with both of them, but for now this has to do. I just love how it turned out and it’s a beautiful reminder of them. ♥

Movies watched in 2021: Love and Monsters
Tumblr media
Look. I love Dylan O’Brien, so I was really looking forward to this movie. Of course, it also suffered from the closed cinemas last year but is now showing on Netflix (Germany, I guess some other countries had an earlier release).
The world went to hell. Because humanity nuked an asteroid that would’ve have destroyed Earth, the nuclear waste caused a mutation in cold-blooded animals. The result was huge mutated monster insects, amphibians, spiders etc. and many, many dead people. Joel (Dylan O’Brien) survived one of the worst outbreaks and has been living in an underground colony with several other survivors for seven years now. His parents died and his girlfriend Aimee (Jessica Henwick) got separated from him in the chaos.
Joel is a bit of a sadsack, because he still pines for Aimee and their lost love after all these years and also is a bad fighter that doesn’t contribute much to his colony except for cooking and taking care of radiocommunication. In this manner he finds Aimee again - she’s in a colony 140 km west from him. And in a crazy bout of spontaneousness Joel decides to go to her.
Ill equipped as he is he still braves the outside world for the first time in seven years, just to finally reunite with the woman he loves. On his journey he meets a dog, two other survivors (Michael Rooker and Ariana Greenblatt), and lots and lots of monsters.
