#wilmon betrayal

Omar Rudberg is a very attractive young man. So I find it hilarious (though somewhat sobering) that nobody at Hillerska seems to notice Simon is gorgeous. All because he’s a lowly non-resident (and a socialist to boot, who refuses to act grateful to be allowed around his social betters), they pretend Simon’s looks are nothing out of the common way. It shows the pressure of class solidarity.
Makes me wonder, though, how many Hillerska boarders secretly have crushes on Simon. Because, you know, they have eyes, even if they don’t dare admit it to their friends because it would be social suicide. Are there girls in Simon’s classes who wistfully sigh over how aesthetically appealing he is? Or fellow choristers who covertly watch him sing when they’re supposed to be watching the music teacher and/or reading their scores?
I wonder how many girls quietly cried themselves to sleep right after the video came out. And told their curious roommates they were crying because apparently the Crown Prince is unattainable. But really they were crying because apparently Simon Eriksson is gay. And therefore definitely off the market, if those girls ever got up the guts to cross class lines and acknowledge how crush worthy he is.
P.S.
Incidentally, I don’t think Simon intentionally went back in the closet when he moved to Hillerska. It’s just we know from 1.01 that hardly anyone has spoken to him since the start of the school year. It’s kind of tough to come out to people who are pretending you don’t exist and won’t talk to you.
And then Wilhelm arrived, and was obviously interested but extremely closeted himself. So Simon had a large incentive not to arouse the suspicions of their Hillerska school mates by coming out himself. I don’t think Simon was hiding in S1 so much as just not choosing to actively bring it up. I’m pretty damn sure if someone had asked him flat out, he would’ve said he’s gay. But nobody did ask, so he and Wilhelm could continue to fly under the radar as close platonic friends.
We can also infer from Saran’s comment in 1.03 “Why are you sneaking around?” That at Marieberg, Simon was out and proud. But he wasn’t a pariah at Marieberg. People actually talked to him there. And he wasn’t deeply in love with a closeted guy at Marieberg.
It could also be another reason (as if Simon needed another) that Simon feels so betrayed by Wilhelm denying the video in 1.06. Simon has already compromised his principles for Wilhelm even before the video, by making allowances for Wilhelm’s closeted status and sneaking around secretively. And Wilhelm repaid Simon having previously compromised his principles by abandoning him altogether.
It’s one thing to let people assume you’re platonic friends and not actively correct them. It’s a whole other ballgame for Wilhelm to actively lie to the press and the entire world. Assertively affirming his (nonexistent) heterosexuality and his single status.

the turning point
Tumblr media
though they had their kiss at the masquerade and then their night together, i think the true turning point for simon was when he found out that sara knew it was august and was protecting him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
we see how distraught simon is, on the brink of a breakdown.
Tumblr media
then we see him coming to terms with the fact he can’t go to the police (august’s insane alex/drugs plan). he now has to protect himself and his family.
i think this is where it all hits him. the betrayal is a wake up call. in this moment he finally understands why wille had to lie about the video.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the next time we see them interact, he tells wille that he wants to be with him and is willing to keep it a secret. he’s realized nothing else matters. everything around him is crumbling and the only thing that anchors them is each other (throwing up crying).

Wilmon fics that keep me alive these days p6
If you want to see previous parts of my recommendations just click the tag "wilmon fics that keep me alive" down below.
Tumblr media
Simon winced with guilt as Wille’s wide eyes traced his laptop. “Crown Prince Wilhelm Denies Involvement in Viral Sex Video” glared back, and Wille blinked, stepping away from the screen, away from Simon, away from the sting of betrayal.
Years later, Wilhelm comes home to find Simon watching his old speeches.

Eeeek so I can't exactly agree with the Sara and August side of it bcos I think there's so much betrayal involved in their relationship that I can't support it? But it does show a softer side to August, tho that doesn't excuse anything he's done. I think their relationship being hidden is hella ironic.
With wilmon, i do wish there was more of them. But we do see them study together (which made me very happy), and there's a bunch of things that happen that we don't see - if it's not important or necessary or doesn't drive the plot forward, it often wont make the final cut. They arent a slow burn and I genuinely ADORE that abt them - e.g. they could have had willes sexuality crisis be explored in 2 or 3 episodes and then him and Simon kiss, but instead his crisis lasts for like....10 mins in ep3 (or a few if u count ep 2). They both fall hard, which doesn't undermind their love for each other :))

This might be an unpopular opinion but I’m glad Wille did not tell Simon about August as soon as he knew, and not only because they were freshly broken up —talking about the video so soon after Wille’s denial would probably hurt them both too much right now. The holidays are coming, what good would it do to tell Simon right before the break? Is he in the mental space to receive such news? I don’t think so. Obviously, it is information someone has to tell him soon, but I don’t think it would be smart to do it now. Let the boy have some rest.
But something we don’t talk about enough: has Wille come to term with the fact that it was August? And with the fact that his mother knew but didn’t tell him? Because Wille telling Simon about August means admitting that his mother protects August over him. It means admitting that yet again his family leaves him behind.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This scene is right after Wille learns that August is behind the video. The first thing he does is confront August to know exactly why he did it, and he doesn’t get an answer. No, what happens instead is that he loses yet again another family member. Granted, Wille is in theory (and understandably) the one to cut ties, but in this exact moment, Wille loses the person that could’ve not ~replaced~ necessarily but become an older brother. Someone that could’ve been, although with less love, what Erik had been to Wille.
Tumblr media
What does he do after that? He calls his mom and tells her it’s August. And she knew, and she’s protecting him. His own mother will do nothing about the fact that it’s August. Wille lost trust in yet again another family member. Like just look at his face, pure desperation.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And knowing who posted the video is of course something Simon is in the right to know, of course he is, but knowing about it won’t affect him the way it affects Wille. August has always been mean to Simon and it will be more than fucking frustrating to learn he did it —I can’t even fathom learning that your bully posted child porn of you— but it won’t be that much of a surprise to him, I don’t think. Simon and August don’t share blood. And to Wille, blood —royal blood— is something that has been drilled into him from childhood that it is of the upper importance. And I’m not saying that Simon doesn’t have family values, we know he does, but they are probably much healthier than the ones Wille knows. Anyway, August, as a person, being the one to leak the video is something that will probably shock Wille much more than Simon. I won’t go into it, but August has also promised to protect the crown and the crown is Wille. Kristina tells Wille that she was protecting him, the family and the crown. They are all the same thing for Wille, even if he doesn’t want to. I went into it.
I’m getting off track a little but my point is that I don’t think Wille has had the time to ingest the betrayals of it being August and of his mother knowing —and of thinking that Erik was wrong about trusting August. From the looks of it, he learned about it the night before the last day.
Also, what good would it do to tell Simon when Wille doesn’t even know if something can be done? Because his mother —the Queen— told him that he will not face the consequences of his actions. And Simon really, really doesn’t need to know about it right now only to find out that nothing can be done. How would the conversation even go? When they are both still so broken? It would put more space between wilmon to talk about it now then to talk about it when Wille has come to term with it all. They aren’t the best at communicating when they are feeling betrayed and angry (cue drug piano scene) and they don’t need those high emotions when they have that conversation. They need some space and some time to heal before they can face the fact that August leaked the video and that authorities (or powerful people such as the Queen) know about it and will hide it.

Hi Miels! How about 2, 7 and/or 8, and 37? :)
Hope you have a wonderful day!
hi hi !!
2. is there a trope you've yet to try your hand at, but really want to?
i answered this in a previous ask (a wilmon rain kiss) BUT another trope i want to write is a solid enemies to friends to lovers (not sure what this looks like yet... but still)
7. for this one i almost alway reference a request a filled
the request was "keep it, it looks better on you"
Cold. After everything that had happened prior to the holiday break and the constant crying and feelings of anger and betrayal, all that seemed to be left behind was a bone-deep chill. He had burned through his anger fast, though it was intense. He was angry with Wille. He was angry with whoever had the audacity of taking a moment that was meant to be just for Simon and Wille and shared it with the world. He was angry at himself for not figuring out that this is how it was always going to end up. But when the anger left, the cold crept in and that was worse than the anger. Simon felt like he would never be warm again. He wonders if the anger was what had been keeping him warm. He didn’t have the strength for anger. He would sit on the couch with his mom and sister covered in three blankets and still shiver. He drank hot chocolate and was only warmed for the few moments that it slid down his throat. He took showers so hot that he’d get out and his skin would be bright red but somehow moments after he stepped out again he’d be enveloped in that same cold. He hated it.
37. Talk about your current wips
i have a bunch of scraps of ideas but not very many current wips

Now that I had few days to process, and after watching it twice, I can organize my thoughts a bit better.
I... ABSOLUTELY loved season 2!
Yes, I didn't like Marcus and Simon as a couple, I didn't like that scene with Wille and Felice, but it made sense. Once again, every choice was well thought, the story was tied together and the emotions were high.
I love how they tricked us with August and Sara. If it weren't for August's problems and the fact that he outed his own cousin and Sara's brother, they could have been a beautiful couple. Their scene together were sweet and beautiful, but that tricked us like it tricked Sara. She was in love and was blinded. She believed August would do the right thing and at some point, I believed it to. So, that was really well done. Frida and Malte were incredible this season!
I normally hate love triangles, unless it's well written. And I liked it here because it was never really a love triangle. Simon never loved Marcus or felt like he had to choose between him or Wilhelm. Simon was pushed into a relationship he didn't want by his friends (and yeah, I really hate Rosh for that, it's not because a rebound worked for you that it will work for everyone. Beside that, she was great) and then manipulated into staying in that relationship he didn't want by Marcus.
And I know some of you wanted to see Wilhelm jealous, but I'm so glad it wasn't the case because jealousy in a relationship is so toxic. Instead, we got a Wilhelm who was hurt and thought that Simon didn't love him anymore, which is realistic and so much more impactful emotionally than seeing someone jealous. He never blamed Simon for entering another relationship, only from hiding it from him, which I liked because in season 1 they were all about communication, and here, we got to see what happens if they keep secrets and how it can destroy them. This lack of communication doesn't last long because they realize how it's not working and how they need to talk in order to make things right.
As for Marcus, he felt like "I'm a nice guy" type, in my opinion. He wasn't all bad, but he was manipulative and never really listened to what Simon wanted, which for me highlight how right Wilhelm and Simon are for each other because Wilhelm always respected Simon's terms. He accepted when he broke up with him, he accepted that he needed distance, he accepted his new relationship, even if it was hard, and he let Simon chose whether he wanted to go to the police or not. Here, Marcus manipulated Simon into staying with him, bringing his family into this and acting as if he knew Simon from inside out, then blamed him when he didn't feel the same as if Simon didn't tell him he doesn't like him like that. And it was portrayed during their kiss scene. You could feel how forced it was from Simon's part. It didn't feel like any Wilmon kiss. I hate how Simon said many times that he didn't feel like that for Marcus, but still got pressured into that relationship. It's only Sara who was like "But you're not in love with Marcus." The Marcus and Simon plot line was about how wrong it feels to force yourself into a relationship you don't want or are not ready for, and to remind us that Wilhelm and Simon are perfect for each other. Like, you could feel whenever Simon fake smiled at Marcus and how he forced himself to kiss him during that scene at Marcus's house, while when he kissed Wilhelm, it was so beautiful and soft and perfect.
Also, I know some people are disappointed by the lack of Felice growth this season, but those people forget that she basically had her character growth in the first season. This season was about her owning that growth, doing things for herself, and being who she really is, and focusing on things that matter to her; her friends. But Sara's betrayal might change things up so I can see Felice having another character growth in season 3.
And as for Wilmon... Fuck, they are just so perfect for each other. I loved how they continued communicating this season. It wasn't always perfect and they did say things that hurt the other in some way, but in the end, they were always clear with each other, they talked and they came back together. This whole season was about them still loving each other so much and the hurt that comes from being apart and from their situation. By the end of the season, their situation isn't perfect, but they know they can deal with it together and they won't leave each other again because it's now them against the world and nothing will change that. They had to go through all that in order to realize what they truly want. Simon, last season, told Wille he needs to figure out what he wants and Wille did just that. Like a said earlier, their scene together were very different from their scene with Marcus or Felice. Their scene felt pure, natural, and the chemistry was once again off the charts. There is really no one that does it like Edvin and Omar. When they kissed for the first time after their break-up, you can feel how they are just taking it in. They are savouring this moment, something they wanted to do for so long but couldn't. It's almost painful. They take their time finding that intimacy again and it's just beautiful. And their scene in Wille's room, they are eager to feel each other again and it shows in the way that Wille pushes Simon against on the desk or how Simon in returns pushes Wille on his bed and just kisses the hell out of his neck and ear. And Wille closing the curtains? AJKjdlskjffn I could talk about it for days!
And like, them understanding each other's situation and expression their feelings by talking about a book?! Fuck, that was amazing. I also loved how the song was an important plot line in the season. We first see Simon composing it wearing Wille's shirt, which clearly indicates that this is all about Wille. It always had been. Then, just before singing it in front of everyone, they shared their first kiss since breaking up, which just made the emotions even more powerful.
I also saw people complained about the Alexander plot line, but to me, it makes sense. August manipulated him once again. He told Alexander that he has good lawyers and that if he does say that he is the one who took the video, the "Royal court will thank him." It's probably not true, but let's not forget that Alexander is hurt by Wilhelm and that he followed August like a lost puppy in season 2, so it's no surprise that he would trust him on that. Also, the fact that August has proof that the drugs come from Simon helps Alexander follow August's plan because that's a way for them to convince Simon to not go to the police, so Alexander would never have to say he was the one who took the video. And during that scene, I feel like Alexander realize how fucked up this plan is and by the end, he doesn't look so sure about it. So again, it makes sense!
And my favourite scene: the gun scene. Fuck, it was perfect. For the first time since the beginning, the five main characters are together in a scene and secrets are out. Everyone acting is on point. Edvin is phenomenal, of course, but Omar portrays Simon's hurt so well, Malte shows how much August is scared, Frida shows how hurt and lost Sara is in that moment, and Nikita, while not saying a lot, shows how Felice realize that her friendship with Sara is ending. All five of them were amazing in that scene and watching it again made me tear up.
But the scene that made me have a breakdown was when we see Simon with red eyes. I've talked about it before, but throughout the first and second seasons, we never saw Simon crying. Never. And even in this scene, he's not crying, we just know he had been crying at some point. Simon is the type of person that just take and take and doesn't let his feelings shows. He had learned to stay strong and just ignore his sadness. But Sara's betrayal was a breaking point. I headcanon that this was the first time he cried since the whole sex tape scandal. That he didn't even let himself cry during that time. But with this, it was just too much. And he broke down. It was just so painful to watch him like that. You guys know how much I relate to Simon, how much I see myself in him, and seeing this, it was as if I just felt everything Simon was feeling at that moment and it just hurt so much. So I cried for a good 10 minutes.
And the speech!! Fuck! I'm so proud of my boy (I was Boris in that scene hahaha)! He came out on his own terms, he said what he wanted to say, and fuck, that was just so perfect to end it here. It gave us the happy ending we wanted, but also enough suspence for us to want another season. How they managed that is beyond me! And the fact that Sara will tell the police about August means that whatever happen, they won't be able to keep August in the line of succession. They told him they didn't want any problem from August, but the fact that Sara not only knows that he is the one who posted that video, but also knows that he takes drugs, which was something Jan-Olof wanted August to tell him if that was something he does, will just fuck him, and the Royal Court will have no choice but support Wilhelm and Simon.
So I really wish for a season 3 because it will be so interesting to see!!! And also because I need more Wilmon ❤️
Anyway, that was messy and if you read it through the end, congrats hahaha.

Between Darkness and Light
We all noticed the change in lighting in the 4-minute snippet but I didn't connect it with Edvin's repetitive statement about the season being darker until now. Or better, I didn't realize that this change in lighting goes in the exact opposite direction to the change in tone that S2 is supposed to display.
S1 gave us a lot of scenes in a very dim light, usually in a warm yellow-ish tone, and yet many of them didn't feel 'dark' at all. They rather felt cozy, intimate and warm (thinking of some happy domestic scenes at the Eriksson's, the intimate Wilmon scenes, and many others) in a sort of reversed parallel between the lighting and the general mood.
What I'm wondering now is: what if in S2 they're doing the same, but the other way round?
After the dream sequence, the first thing we see is an evidently depressed Wilhelm. What colors would you instinctively associate with depression? Dark ones, right? He's alone, sorrowful, disappointed and angry. He's lost everything. We might expect a shadowy room and a gloomy and suffocating atmosphere. But what do we get instead? The sun. Brilliant colors. A very bright room, flooded with daylight. And that's what I love in YR: they never make the obvious choice, they always go for something different. The Eriksson's house is shown ina bright diffused light too, suggesting that this might be a theme of the season, or at least not something only related to Wilhelm.
The thing is, by the end of S1 everyone showed their true colors, either in a good or in a bad sense.
All the five main characters have been somehow exposed - to us the audience and to the other characters. It's not just about Wilmon and the leaked video, despite this being the main focus.
Felice, contrary to the first impression, turned out to be a good friend and a kind-hearted person. August confirmed to be an unreliable douchebag full of personal unresolved issues. Simon demonstrated that he can and will stand for himself and set boundaries. We witness Sara making a deal with the devil to obtain what she wants. And then there's Wille. His intimacy, his body, his love exposed to the world. But also his essence, who he really is, what he really wants, what he's ready to do, finally revealed to himself in a newly-found awareness.
In S2 there's no more hiding. No matter how much betrayal, pain, revenge plans and shit are going to happen. No matter the darkness of it all. None of them can hide their true selves from the others anymore and, more important, from themselves. They have to face their own flaws, their own needs, their own choices. Their own actions. It's about knowing - and showing - where they stand.
No more hiding. Dark times are ahead, but all the cards have been laid on the table. In plain sight. In plain light.
Before it gets better it's going to get worse. Things are going to go down. Badly. Especially for Wilhelm who's not even trying to hide his intentions. And when he - and maybe also someone else? - will be going through his darkest moments, this new, bright, merciless light will do nothing but emphasize it by contrast in a piercing, almost painful way.
.
(reality check: I have no fucking idea. i'm just speculating because it's fun. but I guess I got carried away a bit? sorry. please don't mind me)

I wonder how much of the Sargust fallout in 2.06 was due to August being an only child…
He clearly did not anticipate Sara reacting as badly as she did to finding out that her boyfriend had used her tipoff to blackmail her little brother. He probably figured she wouldn’t be happy. But her level of betrayal seemed to catch August off guard. But then, August doesn’t know what it’s like to be truly pissed off at your sibling, but they’re still your sibling.
I had a fight with my sister on the weekend, and we just made up via text. We’re both gone 40 and she’s married with 2 kids (who have their own sibling rivalry issues). But she’s still my little sister, and fighting with her is still not fun.
Sara in 1.06 was not happy with Simon, and I suspect that made it easier for her to cut that deal with August. Judging by 1.06, August could have assumed that Sara doesn’t like Simon very much, and won’t particularly care what August does to him. But again, August has no siblings.
Sara cut a deal with August in 1.06 when she felt betrayed by her brother and panic-stricken at the thought of her mother forcing her to return to the old school where she had been viciously bullied. But eventually Sara’s anger at her little brother cooled. And he remained her little brother.
A few months pass. Simon and Sara aren’t as close as they used to be, with Sara boarding at Hillerska this term. And Sara is preoccupied with both her secret romance and the pending sale of Rousseau. But Simon still tells her when he finds out it was August who leaked the video. And Sara tells August what Simon told her, expecting him to do the right thing. Is she naive for thinking that? Yes. But she’s also only 18 and in love.
Then August uses her information, not to confess his crime to the police “spontaneously” before Simon can turn him in. But instead to blackmail Simon with something or other (Sara doesn’t know the specifics) so Simon can’t turn him in. Sara must be doubting at this point whether she ever meant anything to August, or if he was just using her to keep her quiet about what she knew.
As it happens she’s wrong about that, but it’s not unreasonable for her to doubt August’s motives for pursuing her, given what she’s just found out about how he used the information she gave him. Note on the shooting range she says “Because I was in love with him.” Past tense. Not “Because I’m in love with him,” present tense.
Furthermore, when she tells the truth, partly because she fears Wilhelm will blow August’s head off, Simon is devastated. He trusted Sara, and she betrayed that trust. She betrayed it more than once, has had this information since December and got involved with August anyway. I don’t think it really hits Sara until this point just how badly she’s fucked up, or just how devastated Simon is.
He’s her little brother, he’s in pain, she wants to hurt the person who hurt him. But the person who hurt him is her. She did this to him. Sara is not a forgiving person, look at how she decisively cut Micke out of her life. She must be fearing that she’s ruined her relationship with her only sibling for the rest of her life, that he will never forgive her.
I personally think Simon will forgive Sara eventually. But Sara knows what it’s like to be betrayed by an immediate family member, and knows she will never forgive Micke. It’s not difficult to imagine Sara extrapolating from her own experience, and believing Simon will permanently cut her out of his life the way she has permanently cut their father out of her life.
So she’s hurt her only sibling very badly, and for what? For a guy who turned out to be a duplicitous asshole and used her tipoff to hurt her brother. Again.
And August thinks she’ll simmer down. Yeah, she walked away from him on the shooting range, but he approaches her the following morning confidently. He has an ace in the hole to get his girlfriend to stop flipping out: he’s bought Rousseau for her. August (again, an only child) assumes the gift of Rousseau will be sufficient recompense for deep-sixing Sara’s relationship with her brother.
It isn’t sufficient recompense, and August is taken aback when Sara refuses the magnificent gift. But August doesn’t understand the push-pull of sibling dynamics. That Sara is experiencing family loyalty at a very inconvenient time (from August’s point of view).
August’s father is dead, he’s clearly not close to his mother, and he hates his stepfather’s guts. And he has no siblings, nobody else who understands what it was like to grow up at Arnas with Carl Johan and Louise Horn as their parents.
He was pretty close to his second cousin Erik before Erik wrapped his Ferrrari around a tree. But it seems like that friendship didn’t really get close until a traumatized, recently bereaved 16 year old August showed up at Hillerska as a first year and Erik (then a third year) took August under his wing.
August and Erik knew each other all their lives, but they were only close for about 2 years. And given they first got close at 16 (August) and 18 (Erik), that’s not actually analogous to a sibling relationship. Erik was already old enough to drink and vote, and August only a few years off. That’s not spending your childhood together.
And we’ve seen how superficial August’s friendships with his two best friends at Hillerska are. In S1, August and Vincent trash talk Nils behind his back for being nouveau riche. In S2, given an opportunity, Vincent sells August out, and Nils helps Vincent do so. August does not have any siblings, nor any sibling-like relationships where mutual loyalty is crucial.
So August sees Sara sell Simon out in 1.06 and takes that at face value. He doesn’t realize that Sara is angry with Simon at that point, but will get over it. Because August doesn’t understand the messiness of sibling relationships. Or their importance.
I know adults who have cut siblings out of their lives because that sibling had hurt them so grievously they said enough. But I don’t know anyone who has cut a sibling out of their life without giving it serious thought beforehand. Even if they’re better off without that sibling in their life, it’s still a huge decision. Sometimes it’s a bigger decision than cutting a parent out of their life.
Matters are complicated somewhat by divorce, remarriage, half-siblings, step-siblings, etc. obviously. But generally speaking, if you spent a significant chunk of your childhood living in the same house as someone, the decision to cut them out of your life is a very serious one.
My best friend has two older half siblings she is not close to and has never been close to. But one is 20 years her senior and the other 18 years her senior. She is the only child of her father’s second marriage, and she acts like an only child. The combination of her father’s divorce from his first wife and the massive age gap means she has very few shared experiences with her half-siblings. Now, part of that is on her dad. But part of it is simply that both her half siblings are old enough they could be her parents themselves.
So yeah, August was raised as an only child. Even if it turns out Carl Johan fathered another child out of wedlock at some point, that hypothetical half-sibling didn’t grow up with Carl Johan. There might be curiosity, it might even lead to a bond eventually, but there won’t be the shared childhood experiences.
Whereas Sara and Simon are full siblings close in age. Furthermore, they grew up together, in a traumatic family situation with a father who was an addict (and possibly abusive to boot) and a mother who meant well but was struggling to cope. Even if Simon and Sara never reconnect, they will still always have those shared experiences of growing up as Micke and Linda Eriksson’s children.
So I really don’t think August saw Sara’s total disillusionment with him in 2.06 coming. Because August isn’t anyone’s brother and doesn’t really get it.

In season 2 how do u think wille and Simon get back together? Cuz I can't see it happening their relationship can't be a secret but if it is public wille will have to tell the world that he lied . And after what happened in ep 6, wille telling the world it wasn't him was a big betrayal unlike other times wille backed out on Simon this is not something either of them can ignore and get back together
First of all, wilhelm and simon will get back together. there’s no space in my head to think that wilmon won’t be endgame in the telling of their own main story.
How? one of the most beautiful dynamic in their relationship is that there’s not only physical attraction, neither just the wish to be together, but there’s also and above all communication: wilhelm texting or walking up to simon to waste no time and ask him to clear things up; simon never holding himself back from seeking answers to his uncomfortable questions. It’s their strength and a deep talk might be the closest step to a reunion.
Tumblr media
Communication is the key to rebuild trust and facts proving the words previously said is the necessary one to save it. this goes all way back to wilhelm’s courage in finally letting himself be heard and seen, reassuring simon’s heart and emotions too. Wille’s choice to mean what he says, once trust will be restored, isn’t so far from the possibility of a public speech, but to openly speak his truth this time: it's surely a very bold and brave move, a real point of no return, one that could really show wilhelm’s growth and not so hard for me to imagine tho.
However, this is me rambling but i have 100% trust in lisa and the yr team, they have the most special answer to this question in stock for us to watch and cry to, it’s just a matter of time!

Hi, I do not know if anyone asked you about this but what do you expect to happen in a possible S3? To each characters, not just Wilmon. I would like to hear your thoughts. Have a nice day ahead, sending love 🫂
hi lovely tysm!! 🫂🥺
ahhh s3. i think there’s so much room for a s3
first with august & sara
i think sara calling the police is going to f*ck everything up especially now that wille has gone public.
i don’t hate sara, though i definitely had a lot of moments this season where i was angry at her, i understand lisa’s writing and frida did a great job portraying the complexities of sara’s story. & while we’re all screaming OMG NO DONT CALL THE POLICE, sara is truly trying to make things right with the information she has. so i desperately need her to keep reflecting on what happened with august, why she did what she did, & to see her & simon’s relationship because i truly think they’re going to have to fall apart & simon is going to be completely torn apart about wanting to forgive her & missing his sister but not being sure how to do that with all that’s happened. betrayal and hypocrisy. so i’d love to see a lot happen with sara & simon and lead into simon’s life and storyline because it was lacking this season. we truly need longer seasons and eps. so for simon i want to see him break. i want him to finally feel safe enough to cry, to scream, to let someone else take care of him and feel all that’s really happened to him. i think he will i think that’s what s3 would focus on. him and wille really talking to each other, simon explaining the drugs & what started as just wanting to help & take care of sara & wille really listening and being there for simon for a change.
i’m not entirely sure what i want for august. just for him to face some kind of punishment & be removed from simon & wille’s lives. and sara’s. for sara to realize the consequences of what she’s done. for august to lose the opportunities to get power back. because i don’t ever see full redemption for him. he’s still selfish in his core, power hungry and loves the games the monarchy and the elite play to stay on top, to “protect” their own & i don’t see him changing. so i want simon & wille to get justice, for the tape to be brought back up in the sense of all its consequences. what it really did to simon, to wille, what august has to face for it, sara keeping the secret once she figured it out…
felice. FELICE. give me more felice. she needs more scenes more of her gaining her independence and being a boss girl who doesn’t need someone to prove something to her parents or others. i’m not one way or other about her sexuality or anything, but i think the concept of her only falling for wille bc he’s the prince and what her mom pushed on her her whole life does leave room for some potential story line (whether she’s a lesbian, or maybe on the ace/aro spectrum) but i really just want her “love” life to be put away. not every teen is in a relationship, has a crush, etc. i would honestly love to see her sing more bc nikita has an incredible voice & she’s stopped horse riding! so if choir is what she loves, i’d love to see that on screen.
wille & simon. there’s so much. SO much.
i want their communication. i want their silly goofy we’re 16 & in love & dating moments. dates. hand holding. wille finally being free and simon being openly wanted in an environment and society that has done nothing but judge him & try to push him out. i think the fallout of sara calling the police and wille admitting the tape is gonna be chaos, but i want to see wilmon get through it together, on the same page like we started to see them in eps 5&6. i want to see wille continue to see boris and for simon ! to! talk! to! someone! professional ! holy ! fuck! give my boy therapy !!! i want simon to be able to PERFORM HIS SONG. or another song. literally so furious they took that opportunity away from him. more of him & the choir teacher. i want simon opening up to wille about his life & the pressure he feels & for them to finally learn all about each other & the parallels in their emotions & experiences WE see but they don’t know yet, despite their extremely different upbringings and circumstances. i want wille to keep defying traditions, to see how simon has been treated and to stand up for him - not bc simon can’t himself (but to an extent he can’t bc he’ll always be the one at fault/in trouble) but bc wille should anyway & has the protection & privilege to do so. i think that’s what S3 needs to be. the discussions amongst every relationship of all the mess that happened so quickly & wilmon really understanding each other. but i think it will still be chaos & pain. the police involved, if simon gets found out, after wille’s speech of tradition & protection, will he be a kind of hypocrite and turn right around to use his power to protect simon? will the queen try and separate them again or is she going to give up trying to control wille? will the royal court be pissed & try & get wille to abdicate? (still a bit upset at the unrealisticness of august next in line/no one else in the succession but i get it it, it’s a tv show, i’ll suspend my beliefs) but anyways will it go that way or, public response is positive, people appreciate wille’s honesty & they let him & simon be?
idk like i said there’s a lot of room & im 99% sure by the way Lisa has talked about S2 that it is not all she had planned. especially bc she’s always said she knew what the final shot of YR was going to be, and based on her live & the final of eps2 & the bts pics we got, i don’t think at all that was her final image so i think there’s always been a plan for s3 & that’s why s2 is the way it is. i’m sure i’m forgetting a lot and there’s so many characters but this is just off the top of my head!

there was a gifset about Wille's face journey after hearing that August is 2nd in line now, and I thought I liked it but I can't find it anymore?!? anyway, I had some thoughts so here goes
After his mother the queen tells him that August is Wille's backup, you can see so many conflicting emotions in Wille: anger, betrayal, sadness, ... but he fairly quickly seems to calm down, and starts seeing the implications of what he's been told.
Because Wille has A LOT of the pressure on him. Upkeeping the traditions, making the royal family proud, representing the country, … it is a tremendous responsibility, that in his mind he has to carry all by himself. It is, as he tells Boris during one of their sessions, very lonely especially now that Erik's.. . And failure is not an option.
Except... now it is. There is a backup. There is a choice. Setting aside what it means/could mean for Wilmon - suddenly failure is an option. Because personally (and I know many people will disagree with me here) I don't think Wille hates being Crown Prince. Oh I know he yelled at the royal court but boy was also going through it at that moment, and as he tells Felice later: could you tell Simon that it can be a good thing, being a prince?
He doesn't hate being Crown Prince. He hates the protocol, how other people control near every aspect of his life, how he pretty literally is expected to carry the weight of the royal family and, by extension, the entire country all by his lonesome. But with August in place, even though Wille's responsibilities haven't lessened, suddenly he can fail. If he really fucks up, or if he does wake up one day and doesn't want to do it anymore - he can.
Suddenly, he has options.
And just like that, the weight isn't as heavy anymore.

a love triangle makes no sense for young royals
the whole point of a love triangle is to cause tension between Character A and Character B by showing Character B that their relationship with Character A was flawed. it gives Character B the opportunity to get what they want before they ultimately realize their heart belongs to Character A AND forces Character A to realize their mistakes and face the truth of what they could lose if they don’t make things right.
everybody knows the second option never gets picked in the end. the build-up in a love triangle trope isn’t really abt true love. it’s abt tension and motivating both ppl (mostly Character A) in the main pairing to work on their flawed relationship.
but that does not work with wilmon.
simon already knows he’s in love with wille and that their relationship was flawed. the reason he didn’t say it back wasn’t because he didn’t reciprocate wille’s feelings. he didn’t say it back because he needed to stand his ground on what he said. wille was still clearly fighting between his love for simon and his misplaced forced loyalty to the crown/his family. simon made it clear that he wanted wilhelm to love him without having to be a secret. and by not saying ‘i love you’ back even though both he and wilhelm knows he does, he only made his statement clearer: ‘we cannot be together, even though we love each other, if our love has to be hidden’
simon knows what he wants already and with how fresh their ‘break up’ is going to be when season 2 begins, there is no way in hell he is going to be Character B in this “possible” love triangle arc unless he decides to go for a rebound, which is extremely out of character.
wilhelm’s hug with simon and the ‘i love you’ at the end of episode 6 was more than him saying goodbye for the christmas break and it wasn’t him pulling at strings to try to get simon to fall back on what he said either. it was all a promise to simon that he was going to fight for them. he didn’t need simon to say he loved him back, he just needed him to know.
wille already knows what he’s lost with simon. he already knows and he’s going to spend season 2 fighting to make it right. he doesn’t need to see simon with another guy to realize that he needs to make shit right because just losing simon in the way that he did and the betrayal of his family was enough to make him realize what he wanted.
the entire point of a love triangle, which is to cause tension and encourage the two leads to make things right, is unnecessary with wilmon because they already have the motivation and the tension and the drama.
not to mention both of their characters have so much going on outside of what’s happening specifically between them that the added drama of a love triangle just wouldn’t be needed at all. simon has yet to find out that august leaked the video and that sara bought into his bribe to stay quiet. he also has unresolved parental issues with BOTH his mom and dad that i’m hoping (and pretty much 99% positive) will be brought up in the upcoming season. wilhelm, on the other hand, has to find some way to win back simon’s trust and bring consequences to those who’ve wronged them. he’s grieving his brother, learning how to rule a country on top of school all while threatening the entire monarchy with his determination to be able to love simon, and i’m wondering whether we’ll find out what happened with those drugs he pocketed at the society party.
all in all, a love triangle just wouldn’t fit and, in my opinion, would be a horrible addition to the story. the only way it could work a little bit is if a new character grows feelings for simon and it’s entirely unreciprocated but this still raises tension with wille OR wille is forced to date a girl to fix his image with the public. and i rlly don’t see either of these things fully working or happening in the story tbh. i have faith in lisa’s writing so i’m honestly not concerned that young royals is gonna go down the typical love triangle cliche route tbh. and i’m excited to see how everything plays out with them

I think if anything should end on a bittersweet note or not have a completely happy resolution is Simon and Sara storyline. I feel her betrayal was far greater than Wille’s denial and Wilmon had to spend an entire season separated as a result. Given that each season only covers a short timeframe of 2-3 months, Simon fully forgiving her and Sara regaining his trust back in such a short time span is unrealistic. They should be the ones with an open ending with no heartwarming reconciliation, only hints that perhaps things will get better between them.
