I just remembered the time a really pretty girl complimented my name and I short-circuited and said “thanks I got it for my birthday”
Which was embarrassing but like. Imagine your OTP

It's the way in episode 1 Beatrice stands alone apart from everyone while Camila plays the piano. Her arms wrapped tightly around herself until Mary and Lilith sandwich her wrapping their arms around her. Because Shannon's gone and we know that Shannon's the first one who made Beatrice feel welcome. Even in the OCS Beatrice is isolated contained and it makes sense why she's so prone to anger in season 2 because her team her family has fractured apart in front of her eyes. Beatrice has watched her friends either die or turn. All she has is Ava, Camila, Yasmine, and Mother Superion and it's not enough but it's also everything and that above all else is the only reason she can't run away with Ava as much as she clearly wanted to.

man the conversation/mini fight bea and ava have in the car while michael gets gas is SO good and builds up the tension that eventually culminates in their actual fight in the apartment at the end of the ep SO well, and i feel like there’s truly so much to talk about for both characters in this scene alone
for example i LOVE that you can feel bea’s frustration growing and growing because ava keeps insisting and bea keeps having to say no, until she snaps a lil bit and throws the whole “is it because you’re attracted to him?” accusation at ava’s face, which, yeah it’s borne out of jealousy, but also out of sheer exasperation and stress because ava won’t listen to her... and it’s such a great character beat to show bea being momentarily a bit unfair! a bit provoking! a bit condescending on purpose!
bea is so composed and in control of herself at all times, she’s always gentle, wise, kind - until the stress and pressure become too much. then she cracks, and turns... merciless? whether it’s a physical fight, or a verbal one, she goes straight for the weak point, and it’s vicious, honestly. and the way she lashes out multiple times this season, at ava, at camila, at father vincent, even at mother superion that one time... i’m loving this character trait - character flaw? - that was established in s1, coming into focus more visibly in s2. yes girl let the anger out!

Loved the way Beatrice is being super badass and one-woman-mission tracking Ava across the city interrogating people and impersonating police and she gets to the church where there’s chaos and fighting and she’s all like “. . . Of course. I didn’t expect anything less.” Like of course Ava’s going to be at the epicentre of the madness. This is the “punch first, maybe ask some questions and then punch again kinda gal”, it’s the most natural in character place to find her

Lilith might just have made the worst choice she could in going to Jillian, no? Not just because of basically becoming her lab rat and throwing herself into the unknown by walking into the ark, but because of the sharp, undeniable contrast that is painfully drawn between Jillian's love for Michael, which sees her stop at nothing to retrieve him, and Lilith's mother's indifference towards her own daughter.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Of course she had met Jillian before, but season one had another context to it. Now, however...
Here's a woman who will set the whole world on fire in order to help her son if she must; meanwhile, Lilith's mother could care less if she knew about her daughter's little season frolicking in the flame pits of hell after being dragged there by a tarask.
Lilith goes to Jillian expecting the brilliant scientist -- she finds her, but perhaps more than that she finds the devoted mother she does not have. There's a cruelty to Jillian's treatment of her, of course, but in this moment of recognition she realises that a) not only is her worth still seen as tied to her "usefulness" to others, but b) that nobody will do for her what Jillian is doing for her son... And that might just be the deepest wound.

when ava said that her greatest fear is being alone and abandoned, that the thing that scares her is having no one by her side when she gets paralyzed again. and her dying all alone in a strange, unfamiliar land.

The more I watch 1x08 the more I realize how important the entire episode is in Ava's transition and the arc season 2 takes. To start prior to this episode I think to a degree Ava feels some kind of connection with Beatrice (especially given the halo exploding scene. Yes no one else was directly at risk by this point but we also never see Ava react that way unless Beatrice is in the line of fire even in s2). Anyways through the course of the training it's obvious that there's a degree of familiarity and comfort that's shared between them that's different than either girl's relationship with the others. Other than Mary Ava hasn't actually spent all that much time with the group. Cut to the "What you are is beautiful" scene. We see Ava for the first time genuinely apologetic (despite not really doing anything wrong) and we see her respond to Beatrice's confession with care and consideration and almost in a way a confession of her own.
I've rewritten this like ten times because there's so much about this episode that I find important but cut to the end and the scene that really hammers in the arc we see in season 2. We see Ava wake up having just had a nightmare where Shannon basically told her all warrior nuns die quickly and the mission has basically killed the family she found much like Ava and it's enough for Ava to say fuck the mission I only care about keeping the halo from having to pass to one of you (cue the whole who's next after me you scene). This is the first time that we see Ava not only accept the mission but actively driving towards a specific outcome as she transitions from "survival at any cost" to "I refuse to watch you die". The fact that we see in the same scene where Ava promises to be the last warrior nun Beatrice begging Ava to let her help her absolutely panicked at Ava's sudden breakdown just fits the narrative so well. I think Ava had already decided at this point it was always going to be her if Beatrice's life was on the line and it's fucking me up.

the bit in the s2 finale where ava asks beatrice to take the halo just sticks out like such a sore thumb to me. like ava was pretty clear about her intention to be the last warrior nun in s1, and lilith references it in s2 (“oh ava looks like you really will be the last warrior nun” or something like that), and ava clearly wasn’t jumping for joy over having to carry on with the duties of the warrior nun in s1 or s2
so why on earth did knowing the heavy costly burden of being the warrior nun, did she ask for anyone to take the halo, let alone beatrice of all people ???

thinking about ava’s face when beatrice tells her, so serious and so earnest “i cannot watch you die” and ava, who was gearing up for an argument, who was so pissed off two seconds ago, visibly just. pauses.
thinking about ava planning her sacrifice so that beatrice wouldn’t be present - and wouldn’t even know where to go to find her.
thinking about ava’s desperate “beatrice get away from me!” when she can’t even stand on her own, when she’s hurt and bleeding out, and scared. about “i told you not to follow me” and how part of her fears for beatrice’s life, in that final moment of danger, certainly ; but also ava knows she won’t survive this last fight, and though she can’t prevent her death, she tries, until the very end, to protect bea. she doesn’t want beatrice to watch her die.

Miguel being love triangle bait is so genuinely funny. The way he’s like “I don’t want to cause friction between you two . . .” like sorry dude that ship has sailed. The way Ava only has eyes for Beatrice but Beatrice can’t see that and is so jealous, then when Beatrice gets a cute girl flirting with her and it’s Ava’s turn to be hella jealous. . . I’m not normally a big fan of love triangles or jealousy subplots but this one is so genuinely delicious and hilarious, I loved it
