Here comes the sun. Here comes the sun. Here comes the sun. It does not stop. Welcome to Night Vale.

In this episode we learn more about Intern Kareem. He is tall with long black hair and green eyes. He has a birthmark on his right hand shaped like a salamander. He is from Michigan (which Cecil is unable and unwilling to learn how to pronounce correctly). His mother's name is Ayeesha. His father is called Rahim and he has a brother called Aamir.

Kareem wrote to his parents in Michigan to tell them about his internship, only for them to tell him that he is not Kareem. That Kareem is still with them, in college studying journalism.

This seems to be confirmed when Kareem calls his house only for the phone to be picked up by himself. Cecil shows him that there isn't even a Michigan on a map of the US (Cecil pronounces Ohio wrong as well but Canada and Maine correctly). Kareem seems to start having a breakdown about this, so Cecil decides to tell him to go home and visit his family.

Kareem is gone two weeks, but Cecil seems to perceive it as only five minutes, despite which the calander confirms the two week duration of the 'weather report'.

He says that he tried to take a plane to many nearby places and always ended back in NV (Cecil has never heard of Detroit or Chicago) and also got lost trying to drive out, seemingly ending up back in Michigan at random. His family claimed they hadn't heard for him in ages and were getting worried and there was no other him. He started to forget NV whilst he was in Michigan but felt a pull to come back anyway. Eventually he ended up driving back (once more, unsure of how he did so).

We also learn that Josie has returned to bowling, albeit with a cane and the Erika's still help her.

Hadassah and several other five headed dragons are now living under the Ralph's in a cave Hadassah dug. Their hot breath coming from under the floor is ruining the fresh produce, but weekday shift manager Charlie Bair (who can light cigs with his mind) says they at least buy food from the Ralph's. Nobody has heard from Hiram.

The Glow Cloud (all hail) says that the sudden influx of children from Desert Bluffs and also five-headed dragon children means they need more classrooms and teachers. Dana says there isn't any money for it and she doesn't want to raise taxes but will look into it.

ok but wtnv ep.99 (Mitchigan ? Mishigûn ? idk) is SO GOOD. i love how it set up more mysteries around Nightvale. Is it in an other dimension where Ohio don’t exist ? Is it in its own time bubble but they dont have true maps ? Is it blocked between two dimensions (as Kareem’s family on the phone and Kareem’s family when he see them in Michigan act weirdly differently ?). Is Cecil aware of that, as he does a little speech about growing up ????!!

Lark and Sparrow were ABSOLUTELY those kids who opened the windows during a car wash. they did it every single time. henry kept having talks with them about how that's not nice to the car and the people who have to go in and fix it and they're gonna get all wet and they simply. Do not listen. every time. every time it happens. they convince him that they've changed and then immediately open the windows again. whenever henry tries to hold them down when mercedes is driving they bite him so so so so so so hard.

Like Kai and Nya's village knew their parents, so it makes sense to them that Nya learns how to swim before she learns how to walk, and that Kai is so interested in blacksmithing and how they have to keep him away from candles. Lou putting up with Cole digging holes in the backyard and coming in covered in mud. Julien thinking Zane is just being all roboty when he wants to sit outside during a snowstorm, or want the air conditioning to be on. Even Lloyd being drawn to brighter lit areas at Darkleys.

Meanwhile, Ed and Edna have NO idea why their baby keeps wanting to electrocute himself, how he keeps undoing the safety measures they put on the plugs, why he keeps sticking wires in his mouth, and why he gives them a static shock every other time they pick him up

Listening to this as I head to see family for the holidays. I don't get to see my family often and a lot of the time I'm struck with the thought that we've grown apart. We have different ideas on what being am adult or being sucsessful or being happy mean. Don't get me wrong I love my family and they love me and I'm greatful because I know that it could be different, for a lot of people it is different. But I felt like this episode really highlighted what it meant to grow up. To leave the family home. To be different from the person that your family thought you would be.

I used to listen to wtnv a lot a while ago, but then on 99 they were like hey big episode next episode and I don’t like change so I stopped. And then I tried twice more to get back into it. The first try-again I got to 99 again, and stopped, I am not a fan of change. The second try-again I didn’t make it that far. Keep wanting to get back into it. - Dee
