Fully attempted to strangle two people to death in front of his very young child, was given ANOTHER OPPORTUNITY TO SURRENDER, then proceeded to not do that. Capture

Summary: Jaina, a fugitive, is finally caught after years of being on the run.

It was hard for Jaina to come to terms with the man standing in front of her. He was obviously a mandalorian, though she had never seen one before then. She had only ever heard rumors about the elite group of warriors. She had heard they were all religious prudes. She had heard they never removed the very armor they were known by. She had heard they never let anyone leave their grasp alive.

She hoped that last rumor was just that: a rumor. Especially considering she was about to be on the wrong side of this mandalorian’s blaster.

He had to have been a bounty hunter. There was no other explanation as to why he was even here. Jaina knew she had a bounty on her head. She’s known that for over a decade now. She admitted to herself that he might not be there for her, but it seemed unlikely.

She watched him from behind the bar as he scanned the room. He had the tracking fob in his gloved hand, the other resting on the holstered gun attached to his hip. She looked over his beat up armor and frowned. It looked as if he had gone through hell and back, but she knew better than to doubt his skills. Jaina had spent this long without being caught because she was smart.

She finished the drink she was making, slid it down to the waiting customer, and then turned to walk casually into the back. She pulled her apron over her head and tossed it in the corner, picking up speed as the door to the bar closed behind her. By the time she reached the back entrance, she was running.

The streets of Aldera were brimming with people either coming home after work or going out for a night on the city. Jaina used this to her advantage and immediately melted in with the crowd. She knew there was a very good chance the mandalorian might not be hunting her, let alone chasing her through the streets, but it was better to be safe than sorry.

She finally broke off from the crowd to make her way down a familiar alley. She continuously checked over her shoulder to make sure no one was following her. Her hand kept returning to the hanging pendant around her neck, clutching it as if she were afraid to lose it. At the sound of footsteps, she flung herself in a dark corner, but was relieved when she only saw a pair of drunkards stumbling home.

I have to get home. She thought, her heart racing as she calmed herself. She sincerely hoped this was nothing but an overreaction, but the feeling of fear and trepidation pooling in her chest told her she should hurry. And she had always been taught to trust her gut feelings.

She waited until the footsteps faded away before hurrying out of the corner. The blaster in her holster slapped against her thigh as she raced down the alley. She felt exposed and vulnerable. Finally, she reached the familiar stack of boxes piled against the wall to her right. She took one last look around and, once she was satisfied no one was around, ducked around them, disappearing into the hidden door in the wall.

“Zee!” She hissed, moving further into the darkness before even letting her eyes adjust. There was no reason to, as she knew the layout of the room better than she knew the back of her own hand. “Zee!”

A whirring sound started up from her left and she turned to face the lights flashing out of the darkness. Her shoulders sagged in relief.

“Come on, Zee, we gotta get out of here!”

The tiny security droid lifted up off the box he had been resting on and flew over to her side, shining a light so she could see what she was doing. She mumbled her thanks before returning to the matter at hand. After lighting a small lanturn, she grabbed her knapsack off the tiny desk in the corner and started filling it with essentials: a change or two of clothes, a couple ration packs, her saber…

She paused to look at the saber for a second. She could not remember the last time she had used it, but she knew it was at least a decade ago. As screams and blaster shots filled her head, she reached up to once again clutch the pendant hanging around her neck. Though simple in its looks, only two people in the entire galaxy knew the importance of it.

Jaina shook her head again and tossed the saber in the bag. Zee beeped behind her and she turned to look at it. Even after being her companion for a decade, she still had trouble understanding it. It wasn’t until she saw the figure in the doorway behind it that she got its message.

Without another thought, she grabbed her blaster and aimed it at the man. Zee’s blasters whirred to life, but the droid was shot out of the air before she had time to even blink. She felt a pain of sadness as it fell to the floor, lifeless, but her blaster didn’t lower.

The man stepped closer, into the light of the lanturn and she tensed up, immediately recognizing the armor. It was the mandalorian from the bar.

“How much is my head worth now, huh?” She asked, her voice hard. “It was 100,000 credits, according to the last hunter that tried to bring me in.” She paused, her hand tightening on her blaster, “He wasn’t very successful.”

The mandalorian didn’t say anything. He just … stood there. For some reason, that made Jaina more nervous than if he had run his mouth like the previous bounty hunters she had dealt with. She needed to be careful; one wrong move and she would be done for.

There was a pull in her gut and Jaina reacted before she even knew what she was doing. By the time the bounty hunter had lunged for her, she was already kicking out. Her foot connected directly with his stomach, causing him to double over. By the time he had straightened, she had already darted around him, racing for the door.

It was raining outside. The icy cold water drops hit her like a slap in the face, stunning her for a second. She started running as fast as she could. Her only hope was to lose him in the allies that created a labyrinth throughout the city. He had to be stronger and faster, if the rumors about the mandalorians were anything to go by. Her last resort was outsmarting him. Afterall, no one knew the city like she did.

The rain soaked her through, a chill spreading over her skin. She turned down alley after alley, not pausing to take a break or catch her breath. Her knapsack pounded against her back, seeming to push her forward even faster.

Jaina knew there was no hope, though. As soon as she saw the flash of golden fire out of the corner of her eye, she knew there was no way she would escape this bounty hunter like she did the others. She stumbled to a halt, watching as the mandalorian descended from the sky on his jetpack.

When his feet touched the ground, Jaina whipped out her blaster and fired. He easily dodged the shot, as if he had been prepared for it.

“Stars, you are fast.” She muttered to herself, the last of her hope draining out of her.

He slowly approached her, watching carefully to make sure she wouldn’t fire a shot again. Jaina kept the blaster in her hand, but reached her other one around her back, trying to subtly dig into her knapsack. When her hand grasped the cold metal of the saber, she shot another blast. The mandalorian dodged that one too, but it gave her enough time to pull out the saber and swing it out to her side. The saber buzzed to life and the sight of the glowing, golden blade at her side finally made the mandalorian pause.

“You’re a jedi.” It was the first words the man had spoken to her.

“No, I’m not.”

They both watched each other carefully. The tug in her gut had her pulling the blade up to block the shot from his blaster before she was even aware he had fired it. He seemed to tense up, realizing for the first time that there might be a reason she had a price on her head other than simply having run away from home.

This time, Jaina was the one to lunge first. She swung the blade in an ark over her head and the mandalorian barely had time to jump backwards, his beskar chest plate taking the brunt of the swing. The force of the attack seemed to take his breath away, but Jaina knew better than to assume she had done any real damage. She swung her blade again, this time hitting his shoulder plate, knocking him to the ground. Without another word, she hopped over his fallen body and began racing down the alley, her hair plastered to her forehead from the rain.

Later, she realized she should’ve killed him; knocked him unconscious at the very least. It wasn’t until she was falling face forward, landing on the icy stone ground, with a blaster shot in her shoulder, that she even thought about seriously hurting him. But by then, it was too late.

Jaina groaned with pain, curling onto her side and facing the sky. In all her years of being on the run, she had never once been shot. The blaster had obviously been set to stun, but son of a bantha did it hurt. The mandalorian appeared in her line of vision, kneeling over her body. She looked up helplessly at him, tears finally pooling in her eyes as fear and adrenaline hit a peak in her body.

As she lost consciousness, she felt him tie her hands behind her body. For the first time since she left Coruscant over a decade ago, she had been caught.

Everything went black.

Jaina wasn’t sure what had finally brought her back to the living world. Maybe it was the rumble of an engine starting up underneath her cheek, or the slight ache in her shoulder, or maybe even the uncomfortable tug in her gut telling her she was in the most trouble she had ever been in in her short life. Either way, she was awake.

Jaina opened her eyes without moving her body. She didn’t want to alert anyone she was awake until she knew what was going on. The first thing she noticed was the energy shield surrounding her body.

The thought came to her slowly. I’m in a kriffing force cage!

She knew force cages were common for the elite bounty hunters, but she had never seen one in person. The cage was created from energy shields and those who could use the force were completely helpless in them. She hadn’t ever been able to use the force that controlled the very same tugs in her gut that alerted her to trouble, but the fact that the mandalorian threw her in the cage made her realize he thought she could. Maybe she could use that to her advantage later on.

Across from her cage were stacked bunks, each encased in some sort of glass. She assumed this is where the mandalorian could hold prisoners who weren’t force sensitive. Jaina realised for the first time just how dangerous of a bounty hunter she was dealing with.

She sat up, her shoulder making her wince in pain. Before she examined it, though, she reached up to grasp the pendant at her throat, making her breath a sigh of relief when she realized it was there. The rest of her stuff was missing, but none of her belongings were as important as the tiny gem resting in the hollow of her throat. Reassured of its safety, her hand left the pendant to reach around and probe her wound. It ached, but she could feel that there was no real damage done.

A loud screech echoed throughout the room and Jaina looked up just in time to see the hatch open. The mandalorian quickly dropped down into the room, a tray carefully balanced in his hands. She glared up at him, her eyes boldly meeting his visor.

He paused for a second. She wasn’t sure what he was thinking; he was impassive behind the helmet. At some point, he must have made a decision because he moved to the control panel against the wall opposite of the bunks and punched in a couple numbers. The energy shield around her buzzed louder for a second before shutting down completely.

Jaina didn’t budge as the mandalorian moved to kneel before her. He grabbed something off the tray before handing it to her. She reached for it cautiously, her stomach rumbling when she noticed the ration pack and small bowl of fruit. She looked up at him in astonishment. Fruit was hard to come by when you lived primarily in space; she couldn’t believe he was giving some to her. He continued to watch her until she started to eat.

Mother of Moons, she was hungry. She tried to remember the last time she had eaten, but she didn’t even know how long she had been unconscious. She eagerly ate the food, savoring the way the flavor of the fruit burst across her tongue. It wasn’t until she felt full that she realized the mandalorian had been watching her. She immediately straightened up, embarrassed over how quickly she had lowered her defenses in front of the enemy. The movement pulled at her shoulder and the shot of pain made her grimace.

“Turn around.” The mandalorian ordered.

Jaina was immediately on the defensive, refusing to move. She didn’t know what he wanted, but there was no way she was turning her back to him.

There was a note of frustration in his voice as he said, “Do you want bacta or not?”

Jaina’s eyes darted down to his hands where a bacta patch was clenched in a fist. She relaxed slightly, realizing he had no intentions of hurting her.

Yet. She reminded herself. He had no intentions of hurting me yet.

She slowly turned her back to the mandalorian. Without any hesitation, he reached over and pulled the collar of her shirt down over her shoulder until the wound was visible. The brush of his leather gloves against her skin made goosebumps rise under his touch. Neither of them acknowledged it as he started to apply the patch.

“You have no idea.” She whispered after a second of silence. His hand paused on her shoulder. “You have no idea the amount of people who will die if you turn me in.”

There was a moment where everything was silent and still. Then he continued smoothing the patch over her skin.

“I’m not afraid of the Jedi.” He said. She didn’t doubt it.

“The Jedi aren’t who I’m talking about.”

His touch left her body and she could hear him stand up behind her. She turned around just in time to watch the energy shield fall in front of her, caging her in once more.

“I’m not afraid of death either.” He said, turning to start the climb back to whatever was above her prison.

“It’s not your death you should be worried about.” She replied. He paused on the ladder in slight hesitation before continuing on. She watched in silence as he climbed through the hatch. He looked down at her one more time before closing the hatch, sealing her into the room alone.

Her hand reached up to grasp the pendant in her hand, fear rising in her throat as she thought about the consequences to come.

IMPACT // Island Confrontation

As Golurk touched down on Utmost Island, Rei climbed onto their shoulder to survey the landscape. The island wasn’t large by any stretch of the imagination; from the looks of things, it would barely be able to fit downtown Jubilife and nothing more.

While heavy, lush foliage covered the island, Rei could make out the very top of some sort of temple sticking out over the trees. If Mew was going to be anywhere, it was there.

“You ready?” Asuka asked as her girlfriend jumped down to the ground. “They might already be here... if I were you, I’d send out Zee or Banette. Probably both.”

“...good idea.” Golurk would soon find themselves back inside their ball, recalled in favor of Zee. The cybernetic Pokemon noticed the temple in the distance and began to speed ahead by himself, but Asuka’s Talonflame stepped in to keep that from happening. “Not quite yet, Zee... we need to wait for Dr. Akagi before-”

Speak of the devil. “I’m ready. Ready as I’ll ever be, at least.” Ritsuko handed Magnezone’s ball back to Rei, having used them to get to the island. “I’m assuming you’ll lead the way, Rei?”

Rei nodded. As she looked back towards the temple, her eye twitched... while she didn’t show it, or at least tried not to, it infuriated her that she would have to confront the man who created her again.

But if he was going to force her to show up, she’d make sure this would be the absolute last time.

She didn’t respond; she simply began marching ahead, Zee by her side. Asuka and Ritsuko exchanged a concerned glance before they followed Rei down the winding, overgrown path leading to the temple.

Shining a small light from his eyes, Zee led the way as Rei, Asuka, and Ritsuko followed down the temple’s main hall. Even with the illumination, they found themselves struggling to see well. Occasionally, paths branching off to the sides of the hall could be seen, but the layout seemed rather straightforward; it was better they keep moving ahead. They didn’t want to get lost, after all.

As the hall came to an end, Zee’s light shone upon what seemed to be the entrance to the main room, guarded by an enormous stone door... that had been blasted right through.

They’d been beaten here.

“Scheiße... Scheiße, we’re too late, aren’t we?” Asuka stamped her foot on the ground out of frustration. “Dammit, I knew this wou-”

“Quiet.” After shushing Asuka, Rei cloaked herself beneath her hood and crouched down as she peered through the shattered door. Sunlight illuminated the room through a hole in the ceiling, shining down on an ancient shrine that appeared to be dedicated to Mew. In front of it stood two old men, two men Rei instantly recognized. Two men whose very presence made Rei’s blood boil.

With Zee ready to attack, she stepped through the door, hands balled into fists.

“Back away from the shrine.” Her voice echoed through the cavernous room, prompting Charon and Lorenz to turn around. “I do not want to fight... I hope you understand that provoking Mew and Arceus will lead to... disastrous consequences.”

Lorenz, seeming slightly taken aback by Rei’s presence, shook his head. “Quite the contrary... perhaps you may see the consequences as disastrous. However, Instrumentality... uniting all souls into a single, collective existence... it will completely erase the imperfections of human nature. Why would you oppose such a thing?”

Sensing a fight, the old man released his Malamar. “All the conflict and discord in this world can be traced back to our flaws as a species. Our physical weaknesses, our mental insecurities... all of that would be eliminated by a single, perfect existence. Granted... I’m not surprised that you wouldn’t understand. From what your father has told me, you seem rather... incapable... of comprehending such things.”

“He is not my father.” Her growing fury had begun to bleed into her voice; it took on an aggressive tone very rarely heard from Rei. As she looked over towards Charon only to see a mocking smirk on his face, she continued, “He does not have the slightest idea of what my life is like... everything he says stems from my refusal to be his perfect little doll.”

Ritsuko stepped forward, trailed by her hulking Metagross. “Quit deflecting, Mr. Lorenz. What you call a ‘perfect existence’ is what the rest of us would consider tantamount to genocide. I’d recommend you stand down and turn Charon in before you make things worse for not only yourself, but all life on the planet.”

Lorenz stood stoically for a few moments, as if he were contemplating Ritsuko’s ultimatum; it really was difficult to decipher him beneath the visor he wore.

“Malamar, deal with this before it becomes a headache.” He turned away, acting almost as if the confrontation wasn’t worth his time, as his Malamar suddenly flashed out of sight. Zee beeped frantically as he tried to locate where the squid would re-materialize; it would be right behind him, and before anyone could realize it, the Malamar let loose a brutal Superpower attack on the unsuspecting Zee.

“Holy shit...! Talonflame, Sturzflug, now!” Asuka’s Talonflame would indeed be the next to go after the Malamar, flying up as high as the temple’s ceiling would allow before tucking their wings in and diving straight at their target.

Normally, this would have been a fantastic move; the Malamar had just performed the immensely draining Superpower, meaning its guard would be down. At least, that would’ve been the case had its ability not been Contrary. Instead of taking the impactful Brave Bird like Asuka had expected, the Malamar smashed its tentacles against the ground, lifting up large chunks of stone with its psychic powers and flinging them at Talonflame. Already mid-attack, Talonflame had no chance to dodge the oncoming Rock Slide, and they crashed to the ground hard.

As both Asuka and Rei rushed to check on their fallen Pokemon, only Ritsuko’s Metagross remained standing. The monstrous metal arachnid stormed ahead, seemingly preparing to unleash a Meteor Mash. The Malamar, however, had other plans, again warping out of harm’s way. This time, though, Metagross guessed correctly that it’d show up right behind him, and turned to swing at the Malamar when it did.

Not even catching on to its tricks would save the Steel-type, though; as the Malamar re-materialized, its Contrary-backed strength allowed it to counter the attack easily before unleashing a flurry of Night Slashes on its target. Metagross tried to stay upright after the barrage, even with their body sliced up by the Malamar, but ended up collapsing.

Fear took hold of fury as Rei, clutching Zee in her arms, looked up to see her creator and Lorenz glaring at her. That Malamar... she didn’t know exactly what it had been put through, but it seemed nigh-unstoppable. If it could make such short work of some of their most powerful Pokemon, then...

“Hmph.” Lorenz reached into his coat; Rei’s immediate instinct was that he had a gun, but once she saw the purple top half of an empty Master Ball, she almost wished she’d been right. “It really wouldn’t have mattered if you did defeat my Malamar. It wouldn’t have stopped me from capturing Mew... do you see now, Ayanami? How foolish you are?”

“Big talk for someone who thinks he can tell Arceus what to do,” Asuka suddenly cut in, marching between Rei and Lorenz. “Listen, arschloch, you don’t even know if Mew’s gonna show up, so what’s the point of-”

“Malamar.” At Lorenz’s command, the Malamar suddenly began flashing its lights, emitting a strange psychic energy that manifested as a beam aimed at Asuka’s head. Once it made contact, the redhead suddenly stopped talking, her eye going wide as the vivid blue iris faded to white. Her knees buckled, and as she slumped to the ground, Asuka simply stared ahead blankly, not moving or speaking at all.

“What in the goddamn... was that... was that Simple Beam? Is that... really capable of-” Ritsuko would be hit by a similar beam shortly after, and just like Asuka, she collapsed, the Simple Beam having completely blanked her mind.

“Impressive... isn’t it?” For the first time in the entire confrontation, Charon spoke; by this point, Rei was actively dreading having to hear his voice. “You know, Rei... I... imagine you try to avoid reading about my accomplishments... so I thought you’d be interesting in knowing I was the one who discovered Simple Beam could put humans in a mindless state. Very convenient way of eliminating... distractions.”

Charon appeared to be in better shape than during Rei’s visit, but not by much; when he crouched down to look Rei in the eyes, he visibly struggled, and his voice still sounded strained and weak. Nevertheless, his very presence was a haunting one, akin to a terrible nightmare that just wouldn’t go away. “Now, listen to me... Mr. Lorenz here was gracious enough to get me out of that personal hell in exchange for my scientific expertise. I am not about to let a little freak like you ruin this for me... so I suggest you take your mindless friends home and let us continue with our work.”

“Fuck you.” The moment Rei moved to tear her creator limb from limb, Lorenz’s Malamar fired off its third Simple Beam, causing her to unceremoniously faceplant on the ground, her mind empty.

It would come just in time, too; shortly after he returned the Dark-type to its ball, Lorenz noticed the legend they had come for had finally shown themself. Mew peered out from behind the shrine dedicated to them, curiously watching those two old men.

By the time Mew noticed Lorenz possessed a Master Ball, though, it was too late; they were sucked inside the moment it bounced against their head, and no amount of thrashing would be enough to break free before the capture was processed.

“Well... that concludes the first step.” Lorenz moved to retrieve the Master Ball as nonchalantly as if it were merely a Starly inside. “Now that Mew is in our possession, we can proceed with the creation of the vessel... which, considering their basis happened to come to us...”

“Hey... you said it yourself.” Still lingering over the simplified Rei, Charon produced a scalpel. “She’s a foolish little brat.” Carefully brushing back his creation’s steel-blue hair, he made an incision in the side of her neck, from which slightly orange-tinted blood began to leak. He allowed it to drip into an empty vial he’d brought, sealing it shut and stowing it away in his lab coat once he had enough.

Charon stood, beginning to walk back towards the ruined door. “I think we’ve spent enough time here... let’s get going. There’s work to be done.”

“Of course.” With that, Lorenz followed his accomplice out of the temple, the Master Ball containing Mew gripped tightly in his palm.

Their three would-be saboteurs were left lying in the empty shrine room. The wound on Rei’s neck continued to drip orange-red blood, forming a small puddle on the ground beside her.

5 Amazing Instagram Feed Ideas with Bonus Tips

Looking for some Instagram feed ideas? Your Instagram feed is the first thing people look at when visiting your profile, and as in life, you want to make a good impression.

As Instagram matures, simply having amazing edited photos isn’t enough: now you have to have a cute feed too! And it’s not as easy as it looks.

To help you make your feed the best it can be, follow our feed guide and tips below to take your new Instagram feed ideas from good to amazing:

1. Choose an Instagram Aesthetic

You may have heard that your Instagram feed needs to have a certain theme to it: food, fashion, travel, etc. That doesn’t sound very fun though, does it? You shouldn’t have to limit yourself to only showcasing one part of your life in order to be successful on Instagram. Instead of choosing a theme for your Instagram, settle on a common aesthetic that weaves through all of your photos. Choosing an aesthetic gives you more freedom with your feed, because as long as your photo fits the “vibe” of your Instagram, you can post about pretty much anything!

You could choose a bright, golden, moody, dark, or colorful aesthetic for your Instagram feed. To choose your own, scroll through your existing feed and see what aesthetic your favourite photos have in common. Photographer Caroline Lee of @teamwoodnote curates bold and colorful photos for her Instagram feed, which works for every aspect of her photography; from editorial shoots to wedding photography, and even her selfies and food photos.

2. Use Similar Filters to Keep Your Instagram Feed Layout Consistent

To help you curate Instagram and have your feed flow naturally, you should have a consistent approach to editing your photos. This doesn’t mean you have to choose one filter and one filter only, but limiting yourself to a few will help you stick to your chosen aesthetic. Apps like A Color Story are great for bright feeds, whereas VSCO Cam is great for moodier or golden feeds. Woodworker and Instagrammer Aleksandra Zee (@aleksandrazee) has a golden Instagram aesthetic, and edits her photos to give them a warm tone. She posts a variety of subjects, like her dog, beach trips, selfies, and her woodworking projects that are for sale. Because she uses a similar editing process, not only do the individual photos look great, but her feed as a whole tells a larger story.

If you don’t want to be as selective when it comes to editing, but you still want your feed to have it’s own “look,” take some tips from the Instagram queen herself, @KimKardashian. Kim doesn’t stick to a specific aesthetic for her feed and posts, and with over 60 million followers, who’s to stop her? But to make her Instagram feed look as gorgeous as her selfies, she uses a little bit of Instagram’s “Aden” filter on top of every photo to add a warm and purplish hue.

Even if you just add a touch of the same filter each time you post, it can make your brand and Instagram feed seem more cohesive. Compare this to when Kim wasn’t adding the filter every time, and you can see a dramatic difference in how well the feed flows.

3. Don’t Let Your Instagram Feed Get Out of Order

Take a step back from posting one photo, and look at your Instagram feed as a whole: how do all of your photos fit together? The prettiest feeds have a good variety of subjects that are evenly spaced out. Artist Melody Hansen (@themelodyh) has a highly curated Instagram feed, and she evenly distributes a mix of selfies, nature, and her artwork. You’ll notice that she doesn’t post two selfies or two drawings in a row, and she posts complementary tones, which really brings the feed together.

One of the hardest parts of making your Instagram feed look amazing is figuring out how to make all your individual photos look good beside each other. Some Instagrammers will post a photo, and if they don’t like how it fits with their feed, will either quickly delete it, or wait until the next day to delete it in order to keep their feed consistent. The best way to curate an Instagram feed is to preview it in grid format beforehand. This way, you can move your photos around to create the best vibe, or swap out different photos of the same subject to see what works best.

In this case, you have two options: post it anyway, or muster all your self-control to not post it. But if you’re using Instagram for your brand, one photo that doesn’t fit with your aesthetic is all it takes to lose followers forever. Don’t risk diluting your hard-earned Instagram brand for one photo, and instead choose to share that photo on Facebook or Twitter instead.
