Growing up is actually all about realizing people don’t inherently dislike you and it’s a bit odd to assume they do

how do i let people know that fall is my favorite season, not in a pumpkin spice way but in a “the snow in the mountains was melting and bunny had been dead for several weeks” kind of way?

hate the fact that "kill yourself" is the hip, cool way to tell someone to fuck off. hate that people took the concept of telling another human being to end their own life and abbreviated it down to kys so they don't have to grapple with the horror of what they're actually saying

let's go back to ridiculous and harmless phrases that observers can maybe get a sensible chuckle out of instead

there are some things we never say

'cause maybe words would be too much

and all their pretty sounds would fade away

under the weight of a foreign touch

we're not the type of friends who hug when they're sad

but when the grey comes over we pat each other back

and we're not the type of people to sleep under one blanket

let's share it when we're awake and don't fear the sunset

we don't drive to each other house without a plan

but all the things in my room memorized your familiar grab

and i don't think i've ever said you're my bestfriend

but i know by heart the names of your pets

and what you want for breakfast

and how you organize your bag

the plant species you own

the time you go to bed

i know your sister's birthday

that you hate family dinners

how you love bugs

how you wish you had longer fingers

and we're the type of friends who chat all night long

while we keep quiet about this unavoidable visceral bond

so maybe you already know that i wrote you a hundred poems

and loved you the way poets love the perfect rhyme

and dreamed about your eyes on a foggy winter night

and your yellow heat is so near to mine

and i bough a land for all the kingdoms you've drawn

we can feed on our silences if i love you is too loud

i fell in love with the moments

i fell in love with the way

her teeth close around her sunburst words

like the sunset was too afraid

to fall in love and to let go

and her eyes find the path

even if the stars refuse to shine

too envious of the looks

moon saves just for her bright

and her touches are in the right places

to build a doll to keep close

but her cruel enchanted fingers

gave it the right to love

and her hair leaves behind

golden strings for rash wayfarer

they lead to tin castles

where the towers are made of paper

and the kingdome built around her

must be made of glass

'cause if i stop for too long

it'll collapse under my mass

i fell in love with the moment

i looked at her blurred outlines

and without a choice i decided

for her i'd lie a million times

a trail of moments

she unwittingly left behind

i collected them one by one

and i'd die another time
