Heyo, I know that I’ve got exactly one follower, and it’s a bot who likes cheese but I managed to make myself an appointment to get my hair dyed today. In person. And that might not seem like a very big deal, but I once cried ordering pasta so we’re getting better at this life thing.

There are so many things in my news feed all of the time. About climate change and gun laws and whether women deserve bodily autonomy, and immigration policies, and I shouldn’t have to see it, and then debate people on whether it’s correct. We should not be in a position where children in middle school have serious debates over gun control and abortion while on a bus ride to Medieval Times. I shouldn’t have to explain to a teenage boy why I deserve to have control over my own body. I shouldn’t have to argue with a girl in my language arts class over whether we can do our visual narrative on climate change because she thinks it’s too controversial only to find out that she doesn’t believe in it, and is a Trump supporter. I shouldn’t be having discussions with my mother about the fact that our planet is dying and nobody’s doing shit. And it should not just be another topic that we talk about over dinner casually, like it’s the book I’m currently reading. I shouldn’t have to argue with people that other people who are seeking refuge from hellish conditions should have the right to come here for safety. I shouldn’t have felt the need to spend my drama class debating with a substitute teacher over common sense gun laws, but I did! Because quite frankly, the fact that these discussions and arguments are ones that I have needed to have, is so epically disappointing to me. We shouldn’t be at the point where people need to convince other people that women deserve rights, and civilians shouldn’t have access to militarized weapons, or that immigrants and refugees should have access to our country. The fact that we’re at that point is quite frankly, very upsetting.
