In my research for “Under the Sacred Canopy,” a continuation of @azdaema-archive’s excellent “Open Your Eyes,” I’ve had a good look at lists of reasons that bishops could give for approving matrimonial dispensations like the one our imaginary friends would need for the Catholic Church to let them marry, and they look like the basis of a fic challenge and/or drabble series (along with giving some insight into the mentality of old, mostly Italian and allegedly celibate men around 1900):

smallness of place or places

smallness of place coupled with the fact that outside it a sufficient dowry cannot be had

lack of dowry

insufficiency of dowry for the bride

a larger dowry

an increase of dowry by one-third

cessation of family feuds

preservation of peace

conclusion of peace between princes or states

avoidance of lawsuits over an inheritance, a dowry or some important business transaction

the fact that a fiancée (bride) is an orphan or has the care of a family

the age of the fiancée (bride) over twenty-four

the difficulty of finding another partner, owing to the fewness of male acquaintance, or the difficulty the latter experience in coming to her home

the hope of safeguarding the faith of a Catholic relation

the danger of a denominationally mixed marriage

the hope of converting a non-Catholic party

i was on a brainrot and started entertaining this idea (sort of au) that efter the events of the movie where everything turns ok, bruno would take a chance on writing plays for the townsfolk. camilo would beg mirabel to go audiction with him for one of them.. when he reads the script though it's clearly about bruno and mirabel, and it bugs him so much that no one else seems to notice..

since then everytime they would have a romantic scenes together he would make his impression of bruno (the one from 'we don't talk about bruno') just to mess with him...

And when comfronted about it, "w-why shapeshift into me though?", he would simply state that "it adds realism". he is an actor after all..

Anon, I'm in love with this idea. If I'm understanding you correctly, we also get added spice around the fact that Bruno casts his niece and nephew in the two leading romantic roles, which would probably add to Camilo's frustration. Like, "so the guy who literally cast cousins in opposite roles so they'd have to stage kiss also wrote a play about him and his niece falling in love. How am I the only one seeing it?"

I don't think Bruno would outright write a plot in which an uncle and a niece fall in love. I don't think he is that disconnected from reality, but I could easily see him writing the leading man as this socially awkward recluse and the leading woman as this intelligent, kind optimist.

And yeah, Bruno is obviously uncomfortable with the point Camilo is trying to make when he shapeshifts into Bruno, but Mirabel? Mirabel is trying to figure out why her heart starts racing every time Camilo does it.

The potential this AU has for sheer chaos is unlimited, Anon, and I would love to hear more about it if you have more ideas.

I've seen Time Tavel AUs of Brumira before and in almost all of them Mirab€l travels back in time to young!Brun○.

But...

But I haven't seen a Second Chance Time Travel AU yet 👀

So now I've been thinking: what if some "safe choices" in the past lead to unintended, terrible outcomes for the two of them.

And what if Brun○ decides to create a possibility to start over?

Unfortunately though, Mirab€l will be on her own...
