okay guys, let's do something fun. an ask game, related to my original fiction :)
send me the following emoji in my ask game, depending on which work you would like to ask me about, following it with a question of your choice ! any question you like, specfic or non specific. you can send me multiple emojis so i can answer the question for both works, OR you can ask multiple questions for the same work. got it? then, let's go !
🕰️ turn back the clocks : a science fiction, middle-grade novel, centering around two siblings, one aged 12 and the other 15. after a visit from their uncle whom they have never met before, they must time travel through five periods to save this Dude, who had been stuck in time. it is a trilogy, this is the first novel !
📼 c for conspiracy : this is a ya novel ! written in a journal-style, it centers around pip sandoval, a genderfluid teen as they recount their school year of 2015-16, their eighth grade class. it was a specific formative year for them and this particular novel has themes of grief, queerness, a huge focus on platonic relationships and dynamics that exists in a classroom-setting. very coming of age. this novel is basically just your middle-school cringe and angst but also that nostalgic feeling, packaged into a novel. a wide cast of characters, most characters are not likable at all but you can't blame them because ! they ! are ! just ! kids ! also, have you ever looked at the kids from middle-grade books and you thought, "god they deserve to say fuck". well, they do in this book !
🌀 rendezvous : this is a weird one. and hugely different from the other mentioned stories, because this is definitely a story that is not meant to be published ever. this has a backstory, this was a collaborative story my friend and i had written together. it started off as a single story with a small plot line and it was a blend of all our inside jokes and all the media that we loved. it has evolved to something more. it became an entire universe of its own and it has really gotten to a point where new characters are added and now, though i am the one who writes it, almost every single one of my classmate has added something to the story and it has became such a Thing. the basic premise is this: there is a school. it is the most unorthodox school. the headmaster is my friend. rendezvous follows this school and its occupants. rendezvous is not the name of a single story, it is more the name of the universe and the school in which they study in. it can't even be considered original fiction: most characters are the literary versions of my friend, their names directly taken, all except the name of my counterpart. even though most characters are teens, or at least adults aged down to teen, there are some adult characters. all the adult characters are reimagined historical figures. the remaining characters are already existing characters from pieces of media, they have the backstory of the media they come from, their behaviors are almost the same except a little different because of the circumstances of rendezvous. it is a Mess.
please, begging you, ask me about these stories.

russian literature, yellow, byler color theory and you.
this is a really half-baked analysis, it was born and planted in my mind about an hour ago. a lot of them might not make sense at all. so, bear with me.
today, jay (@iamtheoneandonlyever) and i were having a very silly conversation on a random little guy i had made. the little guy happened to be quite literally yellow and it was all just random connections in the yellow. now, recently, i have picked up crime and punishment by the russian author fyodor dostoevsky, and yellow does play a part in the novel. specifically, in the room of the main character, raskolnikov's room.
"It was a tiny cupboard of a room about six paces in length. It had a poverty-stricken appearance with its dusty yellow paper peeling off the walls."
we have positive meanings for the color yellow: joy, happiness, sunshine, optimism. now, in the context of this quote from crime and punishment, that is not the case. yellow is connected to insanity, madness, mental illness and there is a reason why the color yellow has such meaning. the phase 'желтый дом' (quite literally 'yellow house') is the russian slang term for a psychiatric clinic. this became a term for all mental asylums as the first psychiatric clinic in russia, in the obukhovskaya hospital was painted a yellow. crime and punishment used this connotation of the color yellow to highlight his madness, which is an important theme of the novel.
when blue meets yellow in the west. obviously, yellow eludes to will in the show, but i am thinking it really has that sort of meaning. madness, it won't be uncharacteristic to have this symbolism. idk just found this interesting. not to mention — when blue meets yellow in the west is a russian code.
another thing jay also pointed out is that when henry ended up in the upside down, it was yellow. a statement about his descent to madness, perhaps?
except, stranger thing is a very science-y show, there isn't a lot of grounds for references to literature, history and just color theory when it comes to art. not to mention how niche of a topic it is. 'yellow house' as a slang is no longer used. there is no english wikipedia page for obukhovskaya hospital. i literally needed to manually translate the existing russian wiki page for the information and the confirmation.
some links i stumbled on that i found interesting !
cool analysis on the yellow wallpaper in crime and punishment
an essay on color symbolism and names in the russian language
a forum where the negative connotations of the color yellow in the russian language is talked about
the wikipedia page on the hospital (written entirely in russian though)

If you are watching a TV show, it can be live action or animated.
But not when you're reading a book. Much to think about.

Twitter users are defending their right to assume Picasso was a renaissance artist. Tiktok users think watching any film made outside the US makes you a snob. “Replace classic lit with YA and fan fiction” discourse is flourishing. I think we’re just living in anti intellectual times.

in the light of ep 11, i think mr bonzo might benefit from nikola's skin care routine . 'that was skin it was sagging' SOMEONE hasn't been using retinol and moisturising to keep his clownskin supple and wrinkle-free 🤨🤨

I'm curious if the song summons Mr. Bonzo ... the lyrics certainly imply that it does. And we hear it playing both times he's been physically present in the podcast. But how would the OIAR get the target to play it? I'll definitely be looking out for it more in the future.
(also I'm so glad the title is in comic sans, the strongest cosmic horror to date)
