Ryan Murphy in 2015
The episode of American Horror Story: Hotel that aired on October 21, 2015 was called “Mommy”.
The episode of Scream Queens that aired on November 10, 2015 was called “Mommie Dearest”.
Motherhood and its effects are hardly rare themes in fiction, but Murphy shows sure love demonstrating the dark side of nurturing mommies.

Trope: Gender-Segregated Spaces
Women-only:
the Troubletones (Glee)
Kappa Kappa Tau sorority (Scream Queens)*
AHS: Coven: The covens of Fiona Goode and Marie Laveau are both spaces for (exclusively female) witches, who the male hunters try to murder.
Men-only:
Dalton Academy, including the Warblers (Glee)
Dickie Dollar Scholars (Scream Queens)
Duly Noted, the boys-only show choir Will creates in the series finale (Glee)
(*Boone tried to join KKT, and was kinda accepted by the president, but then his death got faked so.  it’s too soon to know what really happened there.)
Note: the sports teams at McKinley on Glee are not altogether segregated.  the Cheerios have guy cheerleaders, and the glee girls join the football team for one episode.  the wrestling team has Lauren Zizes, who had to sue the school to join.  Unique joins the hockey team for an episode.  the only sports team we’ve seen that doesn’t have an overlap, i think, is the basketball team.  Still, the sports teams are definitely binary-focused.

both instances bring up questions of sexuality; Blaine’s kiss with Rachel makes him wonder if it means anything, and Chanel #3 rigs the game so she can kiss and explore the feelings she has for Sam.

Trope: ‘Celebrity‘ Bio Dads
Brittany S. Pierce and Stephen Hawking (Glee)
Sue’s baby Robin Sylvester and Michael Bolton* (Glee)
Chanel #3 and Charles Manson (Scream Queens)
*this is explicitly proven to be a false claim, but tbh we don’t have evidence of the others being true either.  at the very least, people claiming ‘celebrity’ bio dads is a trope.
