Two words, @thermodynamic-comedian:
Hear, hear!
~ Th3r3534rch1ngr4ph, Unfortunate Theorist
genuinely cannot believe there's ppl out there that don't think the snicketverse is amazing and cool,,,
like sorry you don't think teaching kids stuff like "weird people can be awesome and cool", "good people can make mistakes", "adults can be wrong", "people can be romantically in love with people of the same gender, and that's completely normal", "some people are neither male nor female, and gender doesn't matter half as much as you think it does", "bad and good people alike can take a turn for the better or the worse"
and tackling subjects like morality, ends vs. means ('it's a wicked thing to do, for a noble cause'), the importance of seeking out knowledge, the affect trauma can have on a person, not judging a book by its cover, etc.
AND all of that while still being a comedic, educational, interesting and strange in the loveliest of ways fictional universe filled with stories begging to be told????
so yeah im sorry if you just dont find all of that awesome and cool?? lmao??

250 likes from me! Keep going, Snicketeers (not a word but should be). Maybe one day, if we keep at it, Handler might give up and spill all the secrets... but until then, theorise and analyse every connection in every way you can. More on TCWOCL coming soon.

👏
today i was playing tennis and a fire started on the court. Some people might think “oh god! A fire!”, but I just thought “damn, my enemies found me!” and think of the VFD classes where I learned how to be safe in case there is a fire. But then, of course, I had to run away because I couldn’t let the fire starters get to me.

The Complete Works of Contradictory Logic in ASOUE: Volume I (Quote Debunk 10)
Part 6 - The Wide Window S1 E6
N.B. Mr Poe's stupid remark at 05:40 doesn't count - it's stupid, not contradictory.
This one, however, does:
06:15 - "...and now you're jumping to the conclusion that a villainous man who swore he'd stop at nothing until he got ahold of your parents' enormous fortune is involved in some plot to get ahold of your parents' enormous fortune." ¬ Mr Poe
I wonder how many more times Arthur Poe shall grace us with his sheer wisdom...
07:00 - "...disguises and grammatical errors - these are dire accusations, but they're easily investigated."
As if a grammatical error is so fatal! And if disguises were so dire, every actor on Earth would be jailed!
N.B. 47:38 is just a joke, not contradictory.
But then Olaf says:
47:45 - "But then I also had third thoughts, which are how empty my wallet and my heart are. I truly think that the Baudelaires can be an enormous, enormous fortune in my life."
Gotta love Handler.
48:15 -
Poe: "Klaus, we've been through this. There's absolutely nothing at this point that will convince me that this man is actually Count Olaf."
Also Poe, 39 seconds later: "Oh, come now, that won't work. Even a child can see that peg leg was false."; "Oh, come now, that won't work either. You tried to hide the tattoo with the peg leg."; "Oh, oh, come now, that won't work either again. Business cards don't prove anything - anyone can go to a print shop and have cards made up that say anything they like."; "Oh, come now, that won't work for the final time. Josephine left the children to Captain Sham, not Count Olaf. You are Count Olaf and not Captain Sham."
There really are no words for this guy...

Hope you get yours soon!

Many thanks to @afterthegreatunknown for taking the time to answer! Very much appreciated.
~ Th3r3534rch1ngr4ph
@unfortunatetheorist to your question for the 'ask blog' ask game:
Why did the Netflix series decide to swap Esmé and Georgina's hair colours from the book canon (and what, if any, is the significance behind this decision)?
Personally, I think they went for acting abilities over appearances for the roles; no real significance to it. But to play into the argument of that there is logic to the hair color swap:
Madame Lulu said that Esme is not a real blonde, which could mean Esme in-universe has natural dark hair (I thought it feels of a jab/insult than legit claim, but...)
Regarding Georgina, IIRC Klaus after he said his dad didn't trust optimists or optometrists, Georgina goes into a little 'I wonder' talk about the person that is clearly about herself, and mentions plastic surgery to assume a new identity. It's possible Georgina post plastic surgery she either dyed her natural blonde hair as part of her new identity, or she was a bottle blonde who stopped dying her hair and went back to her natural dark hair color.
Regarding your question for the ask game itself...
Netflix!Esme:
"Am I a bottled blonde? Darling, I swear to you that this is my natural hair color. If I were ever to dye my hair a different color, know that I would do so when it's in. And currently, a dye-job is out."
"It's a shame that some people choose to ignore it."
Netflix!Georgina:
"You think that I-oh, that's the funniest thing I ever heard!"
"I assure you that I don't dye my hair, just like how I don't hypnotize anyone to get the best dates possible for balls and parties."

Hello, @afterthegreatunknown , here's an in-canon question I've been thinking of lately:
Why did the Netflix series decide to swap Esmé and Georgina's hair colours from the book canon (and what, if any, is the significance behind this decision)?
Good luck!

Mini 'Ask Blog' Ask Game
Go into my ask box, and ask me a question or questions of a character of your picking at any given period (pre-canon, canon itself, post-canon), and I have to try my best to answer the question in-character as possible.

@volunteerfiredepartment, at least this article doesn't call them Dennis and Iphigenia as Mr Poe does in the series!
Tumblr media
A copy of a section of the “supposedly true” article in The Daily Punctilio that details the kidnapping of the Quagmire triplets, Duncan and Isadora.
The Daily Punctilio would later publish more untruthful and unhelpful stories, such as ones describing Count Omar’s murder:
“BAUDELAIRE ORPHANS AT LARGE! Authorities are trying to capture Veronica, Klyde, and Susie Baudelaire, who escaped from the uptown jail of the Village of Fowl Devotees, where they were imprisoned for the murder of Count Omar.”
Whether it be purposeful or not, the journalist(s) who wrote such stories made some fundamental errors, and it is rather unfortunate that so many people trusted (and still do trust) newspapers such as The Daily Punctilio to be trustworthy, independent and un-biased sources of information.

Daniel Handler on the the common denominator among Lemony Snicket books:
[There is a] proud Snicket tradition of a reassurance that dark things are, in fact, there. … That a terrible thing can happen at any moment, and it is up to you to persevere through it.
