fallout (2024)
WARNING: i did not finish this. i didn't want to finish this. do not read or watch if you like happy stories. do not read or watch if you like the darkness in the fallout games. this show is dark in gruesome, permanently damaging ways. fuck this. the show may fucking nail the aesthetic of fallout, it doesn't get the vibe of fallout. fallout is set in a serious world where video game characters go through a video game plots in a world that's also often goofy. an equivalence would be if the mario movie had a serious burial of Luigi half way through and he just stayed dead. a clear sign that it doesn't get it.
trigger warning: gore, dismemberment of the living and dead. the dog dies.
as a big fan of fallout 4, even fallout 76, and a letsplay of Fnv this is very hype. and the references they are putting in straight is so cool to see. and damn, that's how you start a fallout. and now jus the references, seriously the vault hallways looks straight up lifted from fallout 4 (with high definition mods)
a vault having connections with a different vault? so that either is a process of kicking people the fuck out, or the evil experiment from vault tech... probably both. also love that they don't avoid the fucked up lore that really makes fallout fallout.
oh yea, this is how you start a fallout part 2, the personal angle. kind of bummed that she doesn't start with the classic bulky 10mm. and of course there's something about the protaganists family, because this is bethesda fallout (not derogatively, just perfect adaptation)
me, out loud: "ohhh, that's the pridwin, that's so cool" if you get me to talk out loud you did good. petty power politics? how very fallout of you. "i'm bringing him home". i'm very sorry but that's not how fallout works.
also loves that bethesda continues with inclusivity. Dane is nonbinary, played by a trans actor. it's so small, it plays no role (at least i find it HIGHLY unlikely that it will. nb people are just part of reality, and so they are now (finally) entering media.
the fucking junk jet made it in?
just "the ghoul". i wonder if we'll get more info on what ghouls are. i mean i know. i've probably heard more false things then there's true stuff about ghouls to know. but if you're new to fallout i think the vault is relatively obvious, and the brotherhood is pretty well explained. but the concept of a ghoul? practivally nothing outside of them being scary, can go "feral", and are weird. but it is only the first episode.
02
it wouldn't be fallout without skeletons in strange positions and/or environmental story telling. did they use fallout sound effects for the weird man drinking water? it may not be but that is diamond city. at least based of it. it looks so fallout that i can't even remember which of the places i've had a shootout in it reminds me of, it's too many.
not a fan of living gore. like fallout game gore is fine. shooting limbs of completely mindless things? fine. but not on a person, espcially not one that's then crudely taken care of. i'm way too terrified of something happening to me, it tends to roam in my mind anyways, even more so now that i've a reason to give a shit about my body, so the dismemberment of the living... ew, please, no more. at least it doesn't stick around too long (in which case why? just to be gross?)
"cyanide was the most humane product vault tech ever made"... accurate yet horrifying.
03
oh... so that's who the ghoul is. and that, well it'll create drama, and i'm curious how close it's to the story of nuka break. haven't seen that show in too long.
me, out loud, after wondering what that monster was "oh of course it was a gulper. wait, no, those are east coast, this was west coast." not really a plothole, monsters from one side often make their way to the other. harder for a water based creature. unless the same thing evolved twice.
oh, those eyes weren't just more human then expect. that thing was human... once.
the golden rule is severely lacking. don't do onto others as you'd have them to onto you. if i was into bondage and often horney how do you think it'd treat people if the golden rule was. a good rule is "treat others how they want to be treated" or "treat others how you can reasonably expect they want to be treated". the golden rule of the wasteland is pretty accurate though: "thou shalt get sidetracked by bullshit every goddamn time". this rule is, in fact, recursive.
of course the waterchip is broken. this is fallout after all.
04
ok, no, i'm done. no dismemberment of main characters. fuck you. even if she does get it back. i'm done.

at what point are we justified in saying rowling is just a nazi? we know she's friends with someone who'll work with nazies. if you work with nazies you are probably yourself a nazi or incredibly unaware. the friend isn't unaware and thus is a nazi. so either rowling is so incredibly dumb that's she's unaware of this or she herself is a nazi. her stance on everything just supports that view.
if you're just joining us, george takei is having to educate jk rowling on holocaust denial

the finally of Leverage
i want to talk about the finally of Leverage. ep15 of season 5. so obviously spoilers. BE WARNED i'll get into them quickly.
now this episode is different from the rest. it starts with saying everyone but Nate is dead, and then begins to tell the story of how that happened. but then it gets revealed that this is a lie, a story that's told as part of the con. and then they show more and more how the con actually works. now this feels like every other episode, except with one big difference: nothing goes wrong.
you see in every episode things go wrong. it has to. it's implied there are cons where nothing goes wrong in between episodes, but those wouldn't be interesting. after all if everything goes according to plan it's boring. but this episode says "everything went wrong" and then reveals that it didn't. now this isn't new for the show. that's how it basically always goes. it seems like everything goes wrong, then reveals that that was actually part of the plan and shows how that was their plan and how they made it work.
now i was onto this from the start. for one because i know this show, been watching all seasons of it within a month. and in part because i know there was a follow up show that has everyone but Nate, so they couldn't die. but then still the episode works, because instead you get to guess how the episode works, and that's highly engaging. instead of being in the head of the crew you are in the head of the villains, but knowing the crew, figuring out how what their actual plan is. you see the actions Sterling takes, how they make sense, and guess how they're playing into the hands of the crew.
and one could thing about the episode: nothing goes wrong. now this is a very cool thing to do, especially since it's the finally: it's basically a victory lap. this is how you'll say goodbye to the show, and you say goodbye by seeing them be awesome in their element. this isn't them struggling and making it by the skin of their teeth, this is them dancing circles around the enemy and everything coming together perfectly.

good omens season 2
ep 1
damn, getting to see crowly as a not fallen angel? this can't be good. blasphemy to the highest order, especially to creationists, i LOVE IT! he's so enthusiastic about the universe it's infectious and the theology is just so saddening. i mean that how i think about this type of theology in general, but it does a really good job of presenting it. "how much trouble could i get into for just asking a few questions?"... yea... this type of theology does not appreciate simple questions.
azeeaaa... that guy just forgiving is both nice characterization, as well as a slap in the face of the theology. he can just forgive, unlike his god.
"who told you i was naked?" such a great inversion of a biblical line. this show is way too fucking clever... Also What The Fuck Is Going On? why does Gabriel suddenly know nothing with mysterious prophesies? "his royal smuggness" fuck that's a quote to steal.
on the one side they seem to be setting up a saphic romance, on the other it was shot down hard. so now i'm curious, was the shotdown a lie, will something happen, or something more intersting?
the sound effect for dusting, fucking hell this season will be glorious.
that... oh that's no not a healthy relationship. and this doesn't read like worried, this seems controlling. now that can be rooted in worried, but isn't good. but since we've not seen the character i doubt we'll see the relationship mended but broken for a better one, which for some reason, at least at this stage, may not feel great. the problematic person will still be problematic in the next relationship.
ep 2 the clue
"i command thee, begone!" "no" "no?" "no, thank you? you see, i have a permit." "a permit? from whom?"{disgruntled, as if someone didn't tell them they had to bring some money for lunch so now they'll be slightly hungry for a couple hours} still the best writing.
oh, tackling job? yea, that story certainly doesn't paint god in a good light. absolutely amazing story to show when you want to make heaving one of two bad guys (which does theologically make perfect sense)
oh, the small miracle worked... now lets hope the scene won't be awkward and/or long.
oh fuck, they really make you empathise with job and his wife. of all the people talking about job, be it christian or atheist that's an angle i've never seen. love that crowley is so consistent. a bastard, but one with some hart.
"i think the message was... if you have questions... come back when you can make a whale"... i mean honestly... about as logical a conclusion to draw from job as anything else. damn this edition of job is amazing.
assertive azeaa... that guy, is weird. it's not out of character, not fully, just weird.
the use of job is SO amazing. 1. i points to all the fucked up parts of job. 2. it actually focuses on the fucked up part of job. not the atheist talking points for "look at how fucked god is in job", there is that, but it actually makes it a point. it's not just a cinema sins ding against god (first time i'm fully internalizing how bad cinema sins dings are) but actually focuses on it. 3. perfectly integrated into the story. it's a fucked up story that makes total sense to be the course of azeaa-that guy's first sin. we saw him bend the rules in season 1 by for instance giving adam his flaming sword at the garden of eden, but that wasn't a sin, it was stretching, but not breaking the rules. this was just breaking the rules, and it made perfect sense and explains how the deal was made. and holy shit the reuse of the line "but you said it wasn't [lonely]" "i'm a demon. i lied."
ep 3
it's impressive how good these actors are at playing not knowing how to human. seriously just try to pick up something having never held it in your life, it's hard. just try to hold something mundane in a way that shows you're confused by the concept of holding it.
people have been bothering her about her love life a lot already, and it itself is already draining. and now an angel with NO knowledge on how to human is going to be blunt about it? oh yea, they got some time to arrange things.
ah, heaven trying to justify the poor having to do desperate things they (well, the rich that made them up) disapprove of to make ends meet. it fails spectacularly.
... what is going on in hell? are they going to make hell... better? i'd be up for it, but it's a wild concept with the theology they're going with.
oh, breaking down the body snatcher thing that was going down. poor people Need the money, doctors in training Need bodies, and the legal supply is simply too low. not delivering bodies was just worse for everyone.
he wants to threaten, but as always he has no power. a traitor demon the demons just don't want to really deal with, still able to do miracles, but unable to stand up to the forces of heaven or hell. all he has is deception and knowledge on how humans work. just barely enough to keep his friend safe.
ep 4
90% of the episode is a flashback to a fun story, yet seems totally unrelated. then in the last 10% big setups for future episodes, not least of which a DEMON INVASION ON the book shop... love the contrast.
ep 5
oh, that matchbox is suddenly a LOT more important... maybe? it's also such a great description of the amnesia. and i love the grow? change? niceness of crowley.
"they stand on their own two feed, like the government said". this feels like a dig at something. looking it up: yup. it's sarcastically using lines of the British equivalent of people who tell you to pull yourself up by your bootstraps.
look azeaa... that guy, i know you mean well, but this is not... well. this is weird and bonkers and unsettling.
ep 6
crowley has a very interesting plan, while we see how the ladies are similar.
oh shit. crowley was pretty high up. also "i wasn't always a demon and they never change their passwords" is such a fun line, while also making perfect sense. why would you need to change your password in heaven?
the fly?! THE FLY JIM WAS SWATTING AT AT EPISODE 1 OR 2!?!
are they doing this? are they really doing This?! i mean it makes sense, hell love was a theme this season, i just didn't expect it.
the ending was turning extremely bad (it'll still end extremely bad) and then they bring up that in the next part they want to tackle the second coming. THE FUCK AMAZING YES IT"S IN THE WORKS BUT WILL STILL TAKE A LONG TIME FUCK
also realized that it points to the big conflict between crowley and azeaa... that guy: one still fundamentally believes in the system while the other doesn't. sure both have problems with how things are done and go around the system plenty of times, but one still believes that the core of their side, of the system, is good while the other calls both of them wankers and wants nothing to do with either. and it's probably which side i agree with more.

so... i'm worried that the "tough love" will turn out to totally be a great idea... you know, the same thing that gets lgbtq+ kids kicked out of their house. nothing to complain about the animation though, great visual gags too.
annnd i just found my favourite character i'm pretty sure... fuck i'm such a lesbian. main character is boring. like i get that he's supposed to be dislikeable and it going to steal the ladies savings before the end, but it's just... predictable.
santa is really cool though. scarily nice.
please don't make her a love interest... just... i can't see it working. like he's going to steal her savings, this we know, don't make her trust him after that.
neat accuracy with the lichen feeding to the raindeer.
the kids are threatened into doing something nice, and then the parents are aggressively nice in a "i didn't except help from you, it was a transaction" kind of way. hilarious.
it's so nice half way through... but we still have a liar revealed plot to get trough.
one prop tells claus' hole backstory. well done.
i mean we still have the liar revealed, but was i wrong about the theft? seems unlikely i feel... but maybe?
i was correct, i wasn't a fan of the liar revealed plot. handled as best possible, but still not a real fan.
loved the ending though.

watching good omen season 1
ep 1 pilot
haven't seen a lot of it, mostly that people like it, that it's made by people people really like and that it's gay (or at least people make it gay) so you know, good pick for me. and i just watched to animations/animatics on youtube with bad endings and bad endings fuck me up, so hopefully this is happier. intro is a fucking banger. also god has a fem voice? nice. accurate skin colour for the earliest humans. not surprised, but appreciated. making fun of theology and great banter? i love it.
ominous picnic basket. oh... actually quite biblically fitting it seems. i REALLY hope they don't expect me to remember these names too well. many of the characters seem fun though.
of course the american politician says bs like "a regular y chromosome son". which i'm sure has not been tested as you 1: don't know the gender yet. 2: phenotype does not denote genotype.
i wonder who and how they'll figure out who has the wrong baby. "i don't recall what horror of history we had a lunch over, but i do recall what we had." the BEST dynamic.
will they even figure out they got the wrong one? ok, i know that working with an actual 5 year old would be a nightmare... but that kid is like 12.
well done making both heaven and hell look like shit. do you want grime overpopulating or empty, liminal, office spaces?
brilliant end of episode 1.
ep 2 the book
damn the forces of hell are so bloody rude and evil. and so many quick jokes.
question: what are the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse supposed to be in christianity? both biblically and in modern belief? they are separate from devils and angels.
i love a witch that also uses an ipad in her rituals.
"sorry, right number" seriously the humour in this show is so brilliant. i really hope the story is able to match it.
ep 3 hard times
a black knight shrugging is way too funny. i love these two. just two old friends helping each other out, it's just that that's diametrically opposing one another. the angel doing some tempting, the demon some miracles. and upper management doesn't care.
awh, they are just so cute together.
excuse me you are playing intro now? 28 minutes in? that's not an intro. that's a bloody intermission!
they really succeed at making heaving seem so extremely bad. extremely wide shot or extreme close-up. it's so incredibly uncomfortable.
the prime minister has a nice flat chested fucker in his bed.... good for him if he's not cheating.
"mend it all"/"end it all" whispers. really neat.
ep 4 saturday morning funtime
of course he was condemned for nothing more then asking questions.
ah, they got rid of pestilence to replace them with pollution. it's a good change, but feels pretty pre 2020.
oh no, i find his death so sad. he had a love, why kill him? i know the apocalypse is coming but still.
i still really hope that the presidents son turns out to be trans to just break the things he said at the start. then again it wouldn't really work as it's not the kids he said it about. idk, i guess i hope of screen son turns out to be trans to spite the person that'll never know... yea i'm holding out hope for something that doesn't matter.
azi being send to heaving is SO bad. his bookshop possibly burning down is emotionally worse. it was going to be the last episode of the day. but i started watching because i couldn't deal with bad endings, so i guess i'll have to watch one more.
ep 5 the doomsday option
Azi going full rogue (finally).
man that's the most obvious cold reading ever.
the guard reads a neil gaymen book. cute.
sir... your car is... more then a little on fire.
ep 6 the very last day of the rest of their lives
are we doing a flash back episode for the last episode of the season?
oh, please let him rebuild the car just like i want the bookshop rebuild?
the way to defeat the end of the world is to believe and stand (and i hope work) for a world that wouldn't end. a bit on the nose but very nice.
and of course with Terry Pratched being involved death is not to be defeated, just not hastened along.
a kid not doing the one thing they were supposed to do.... there's a trans/gay message in there. also That's Just What Kids Do! you wanted an 11 year old to do what they were told? that's the first part of the problem.
for a TV series that's a pretty good satan. oh that is SO clever. kind of time fucking, but not really so long as you never introduce time travel so it's only true from now on. oh, is it a nicer ending then i though? YES IT IS! \o/
it "ends" as it starts: with a garden and an apple. ok, make it more explicit why don't you.
oh, you subtle bastards. i love it. other scene's now make more sense too, oh how i love it.
ok, yea it makes sense people go wild over this as it's really bloody great.

watching transformers prime season 2
Orion Pax, Part 1.
i do like that we get to see more deception from the decepticons. this is the first time they seem smart.
"your mom looks good in leather" that's not a very straight line... or i'm Very gay (ok either the second or both).
i thought there might have been an element of hope to get his friend back in megatron, but it seems he just wants him for cold hard practicality.
damn, they are really making soundwave the scariest one around. we have seen them fight once against someone's nemesis, and it wasn't a fight. it was a quick and easy putting her in her place. and now they are the calmest and most efficient fighter.
starscream here makes a lot of sense. powerful and stealthy enough to get in and steal food. and of course being out of the loop he blows everyone's cover. this'll either result in his death or instalment as him being a rogue element is too dangerous. probably the second as he's hard to kill.
part 2
starscream found a potential powerful ally. i am curious where it'll go. stay a villain? join the goodguys? sometimes useful third party?
oh, new season, new damage and death options. like loosing arms
i love that it makes a lot of sense with that we know that decepticon base is on top of the place important to the primes.
part 3
feels like they didn't exactly do a lot with prime as a decepticon, but a perfectly fine storyline.
Operation: Bumblebee, Part 1.
fuck, so megatron just destroyed bumblebee's voice box which is why he can only communicates in beebs now.
fuck they just stole his kidney. it's also interesting that these super advanced robot people have not figured out created organs. the thing we as humans are now developing. did they just not consider it possible like how long range communication in sci-fi wasn't as big in the past as it is now? or would not giving them that just allow for more plot threads?
i'm still hoping starscream will grow into a reluctant not enemy, but joining the third party to some capacity would work too. oh, it works Really well.
Part 2.
man these robots have so much trauma. i love it. i don't think i could ever pick up on all this as a kid but now? loving this trauma drama.
mmm, maybe not quite as well. he's getting so fucked over. that's definitely why i want him to make a turn to the not evil. he's getting fucked disproportionally to everyone that just killing him at some point doesn't feel like it'd be satisfying. also shows at least nowdays are pretty big on having at least one enemy turn good, generally multiple, maybe also having good guys turn bad, to demonstrate that being good or evil is a choice, and one you can always change. you are not set in your ways. and it's something i like.
Crossfire
HOLYSHIT that is the worst gore we've seen so far. villains v villains can be so much more brutal.
definitely like the way starscream seems to grow into the roll of asshole useful not (active) enemy
Nemesis Prime
damn, mech just became a whole lot more literal. also that was a damn good plan by fowler.
Grill
oh, interview episode. those can be very interesting, or a gimmick to make a short plot last longer.
nope. clip and introduction video of sorts.
why does RC get no points on personality unlike everyone else?
Triangulation
sadly starscream wishes to stand against everyone, appealing to everyone when they have something to offer, but when he believes he has all the power he will spite everyone. would love it if he either learned he will never have enough power or that not everyone needs to be spited.
Triage
will they continue to make soundwave brutal and scary?
Hurt
oh, it's not only the bots that have trauma now. Niko just discovered that justice is just vengeance, and vengeance is just anger, and indulging in it doesn't make things better.
Megatron looks honestly horrified that "a human girl" could kill one of his own.
Out of the Past
girls episode and trauma episode at the same time? what a treat! (not because girls with trauma but because \o/ girls and trauma is so interesting to explore, and seems to really be the theme of the show. well, trauma and the negatives of vengeance)
well, it was mostly backstory, but also a lot of trauma and grief (is there a difference?), really good episode.
New Recruit
yea, i don't trust the newby. he's going to defect in 5 episodes max.
oh, yea he's either really dead or wishes he was. brutal.
Inside Job
that's the first time we've seen optimus have an emotional outburst.
but really, starscream, this is the best plan you have? is megatron really trustworthy enough?
Patch
a clip episode, but one that does continue the story.
Darkest Hour
excuse me. what the fuck. MAN OF STEEL STOLE IT'S PLOT FROM TRANSFORMERS PRIME!? seriously. the badguys are using terraforming technology to transform earth into something better for them which'll kill all, thus the goodguys and forces the hero's to destroy the only method for their race to return.
they really love ending seasons with optimus out of commission.

watching The Pirates! Band of Misfits
i believe i've seen parts of this in the past, as well as clips online like "yes but actually no". stopmotion is always fun so lets have some fun with this one.
ah, we got a lady pirate pretending to be a guy in a disguise as convincing as the ladies in the life of brian.
each competitive pirate more excessive then the last.
of ALL things to expect i didn't expect Darwin to show up. went to check some science words that were said... they're accurate. extremely minor yet makes me happy. don't know if you want to give him a love focus though, considering he ended up with his cousin.
love the gloomy atmosphere of london. also love the visual gags
fuck me if this story isn't trope-y. sadly not an a great manor.
also not a fan of all the jokes a the expense at women. i get that that's part of the jokes... but they aren't enjoyable.
in total... the film is enjoyable enough, but nothing special.

i’m watching an art theft documentary and they’re interviewing this art history professor from new york who was asked to go with the fbi to authenticate a rubens that had been stolen but it was a sting operation so they had to pretend like they weren’t the fbi, that they were some private buyer about to pay $3.5 million for it, and the fbi was like “this is a VERY delicate operation because you never know how they will react to what you have to say so let the agent do all of the talking, don’t say a word to anyone just nod if it’s the rubens, the last operation we did the guy in your position got shot because things went wrong in a second” and then it cuts to the professor’s interview and he says “i wasn’t going to fly down to miami to be a part of an undercover fbi sting operation to handle what could be rubens’s aurora and just NOT say anything. i was gonna have to ad lib a little” and then he tells the interviewer that when he & the fbi agent got to the hotel while he was examining the painting he started lecturing the other people, first on how badly they had wrapped it, and then about like how it had been painted, the history of it, what the subject was and what she was doing, etc etc, and he was like “i hadn’t taught a class on rubens in 15 years, so for me it was like being back in the classroom except my students couldn’t leave”

(re)watching Transformers: Prime season 1
this was a series that was on during a time, but i don't think i ever saw the end or even a lot of it, though i do remember the motorcycle robot well and thought she was really cool (may have been lesbianism or gender envy), and Red from OSP mentioned is with some regularity which has kept it in my mind. also it was what i was watching when i got picked up to see my sibling for the first time after they were born and i remember being quite annoyed i had to stop watching the show, which clearly has stuck with me for way too long.
ep1 darkness rising, p1
well, it almost looks good. almost, but the lighting engine is just too weak to pull most things off. the graphic quality just doesn't seem to be able to pull of what they want it to. the terrain is extremely low in quality. i expect that to get a lot better, not just with seasons but even though the first season as they build up more assets.
damn that wasn't long for the first death. might also explain why he didn't look great. how much time do you put into a character that exists for 5 minutes?
it's interesting to see an enemy with a plan we know at least in part will fail as they don't truly have the element of surprise. for protagonists it's common, classic tragedy stuff. but never for antagonists.
wow, real subtle guys. two dark purple spiky cars driving like assholes. no one will ever notice anything up. also pausing really reveals how bad things blend. the entire scene has motion blur Except the characters. even still the action is surprisingly good. i just hope the human cast won't be unbearable.
small dextrous fighter dodging around strikes for larger opponents that she can take down? well if that isn't my favourite. no seriously that's always what i try to play in games. i'm no good at hit but it's my fucking jam.
oh she has way too much detail to be a background character. i don't remember this goth girl at all for some reason though. she does have the best personality so far though (yes i like enthusiastic characters)
p2
good way to make him intimidating: give his every footstep a screen shake.
i thought they were going to go somewhat light on combat. NOPE. the bad guys will cut people in half. the good guys will do a fancy kick move of someone's neck and take their head off.
and sometimes it's Very ps2.
damn, it didn't take long at all for the villain to make a turn for the monstrous. i thought that would be season finally or at least mid finally shit. oh shit i think i remember that tiny robot very well, may well have inspired a lot of things i've come up with over the years.
p3
man they really use a lot of plotpoints in the opening multi parter. my fear is that that'll result in a very status quo no progress middle of the season.
i'm getting the feeling that they either don't have the ability or time to fully render some scenes which is why some turn out way worse then others.
and of course the military can't be shown as truly bad.
p4
seriously that the undead army is already a thing is worrying to me. where do you get to go beyond that? "if your opponents are already dead how can we defeat them?" you stop them from being able to move.
ah, they are trying to give the humans a purpose... good luck.
blades extended straight out of the forearm. seems rather impractical. severely limits the amount of cuts you can make as you can't edge align, and these blades seem really short.
the boy walks away... i'm sure i'm supposed to be sad about it, but i'm really not. he added nothing other then being whiny. he'd obvious return. got to have a "default" guy, lets hope he find a bloody use. because responsible isn't interesting.
ok, pretty good threat for what to avoid in the future.
p5
i repeat again: a LOT of big plot point early. i'm afraid for the rest of the series.
transformers is pretty big on defending the home you didn't choose. there's a really harmful message in that. patriotism is incredibly dangerous, which is part of why america is so dangerous, to others and too itself. it's also big on them choosing to defending the home they didn't choose. there's a much less harmful message in that.
Masters and Students
oh, Starscream has a goa to work towards. will it be one episode or a seasonal thing?
"you are a motorcycle, shouldn't you know how to put one together?" "you are a human, can you build me a small intestine". there are some significant differences (motorcycles are designed and lack most useless parts while humans are not and our internals are a bloody mess design wise). but also fair point and fucking funny.
also neat choice to make soundwave, who acts the most like a robot, a drone in plane form.
oh i think i remember this episode. at least the science project subplot i hated.
Con Job
oh yea, he has the high villain shoulders.
Convoy
i was going to say that there were less and less ps2 moments. then they introduced a new setting and yea it's not looking great.
pretty good ending speech and pretty interesting concept for future plots.
Speed Metal
fucking hell don't say "that's my girl" it's fucking weird and gross.
at least they aren't (currently) pairing up the main human male and female character because i don't trust this show to do that well.
Predatory
oh shit we're diving into some heavy shit here. i'm afraid spider lady will be an obvious bad guy.
damn there's serious PTSD going on here. and how RC seems perfectly equipped to fight her could be extremely deep story telling if you read it that the made herself perfect to fight exactly her again.
Sick Mind
ok, they found the hidden enemy ship. so things are maybe moving forward. also really telling that they'll try a rescue of someone they don't know over hitting the enemy they know they have.
a plague ship. such a cool idea. so sad that it's currently probably a bit bad taste to use for things like ttrpgs. though if it's like a necrotic disease. zombies that turn you into zombies by biting you it's probably fine to use.
oh, inside someone's brain episode? really liked those in the owl house, lets see how they visualize it and what they do with it.
"i have thoroughly researched the theoretical literature" and today in least confidence boosting sentences.
interesting it's bumblebee and nor rc. i wonder why.
damn, smart play by bumbles, smart counterplay by megatron. not smart enough. really cool.
not to inventive with the visuals, but probably the coolest episode so far, maybe with predatory. and damn that cliffhanger.
Out of His Head
powerplays between the two people conspiring together. very interesting dynamic.
ok, megatron is back, things do move... and no one seems to be too bothered about it atm. i'm guessing that's what the next episode starts with.
Shadowzone
oh damn, starstream going to use the dark energon in desperation to be level the playingfield.
oh hey, people being out of phase, i recently saw this startreck episode. damn, and they left most of a zombie in the other phase. that'll be interesting for the future.
Operation: Breakdown
damn, how much transformer gore will we see in this one? just one lose eye and where it was supposed to go, kind of a letdown
Crisscross
fucking hell this episode is going brutal. more brutal then the breakdown episode.
Metal Attraction
damn, first instance of damage being permanent.
so they try to make the mom look bad by being over protective. but we don't get any sense that most recon missions go perfectly smoothly and safely. now i'm sure that's like characters in stories going to the toilet, but it does make it feel like they are very often dangerous making the mom seem more then reasonable. they also try to make RC seem over protective even though she takes them on missions she believes are safe and sends them back when dangers shows. i don't think they'll make the conclusion stick well.
i wonder how permanent they'll make those very neat retributive cuts. she seems like the type who'd keep them until she killed the one that gave them.
oh, his dad left... i though he might have died... that's either a much stronger stance, or his father will be revealed later making it much less interesting because we've seen that dozens of times. and they didn't make them worrying the bad thing they did, but instead not accepting change. surprisingly well handled.
Rock Bottom
not like this (be burried under a metric fuckton of rock and then drilled to death)... why not? a swift, easy end to one of the biggest threats. boring for the series? sure. but they could have made it saving before attacking and it would have made total sense.
Partners
i just realized the autobots make for a pretty standard 5 man band... sort of. some are easy. like bulkhead is the obvious big buy, ratchet is the obvious smart guy. now arcee and optimus are obvious leader and lancer. but you could question who's who. for the leader optimus is rather rarely the focus... but yea no he's the leader. and arcee is a neat lancer being the smallest compared to the largest, nimble and dodging instead of standing his grown and tanking. which would make bumblebee the heart which makes total sense.
if anyone would turn coat starscream would make some sense... but also not as he'd want to tripplecross. however he thinks he'll get more.
T.M.I.
damn this episode felt like one of the writers was struggling trough a family member suffering dementia.
Stronger, Faster
i think i remember this episode. unless the energy problem keeps coming up.
i mean... is what he's saying not true though? he's saying it like an asshole, sure, but what did he say that was wrong?
are you really giving the decepticons two corrupted forms of energon? seems redundant.
One Shall Rise, Part 1.
the only vagally reasonable natural threat to europe is something weird that kills power. sorry, it's just bizarre how safe Europe is compared to the rest of the world. this is not a flex, Europe is life on easy mod.
on the one side that's some cool lore. on the other i'd love it if for once something was called "the blood of X" and it's just myth, nothing more. not the plot twist of "the blood of X was Actually the blood of X and not just a fancy name".
One Shall Rise, Part 3.
damn, that's one hell of a cliffhanger for season 2. sure, the threat is defeated, but now the decepticons have optimus.

ep14 The Case of the Felon with Frosty Fingers.
of all the things to steal a cow? don't get me wrong i'm sure they're worth quite a bit of money, but they seem a bit tough to steal when stealing stuff like jewellery and electronic devices is a lot simpler. also i remember part of this episode, the walk during which everyone falls asleep, the image of the cattle being married. no idea where the episode is going, but i remember the imagery.
yea, this was an episode i remember well. the classic babysitter episode.
ep15 The Case of the Bogus Banknotes.
random reference to dutch... just weird when it happens to your small country.
oh gods trying to learn french, yea, that stuff's no fun. i wonder what the foreign language was in the dub. french would totally work, many people here do have to learn it and it's not any easier for a dutch person then one from great Britain, but i somehow think it was probably English, more useful language to learn after all. fun fact: dora and diago here thought english.
well that's the first time i thought that the animation looked cheap.
oh this was in the time that phone where beginning to have camera's widespread, but not smartphone yet.
yea i always wonder what happens if people figure out they payed with fake money. like most people did work for that fake money and didn't know they were given it, and if the culprit can't be found who gets the blame and loses?
ep16 The Case of 8 Arms and No Fingerprints.
who THE FUCK steals an octopus?!
god i remember a lot of this episode. i also like that they do give clues for you to figure things out, you need to be quick about it, but it is there. i also love the personalities (Jo) and how things are phrased.
ep17 The Case of the Flowers That Make Your Body Go All Wobbly.
oh i remember this episode. the jealousy episode... i won't like it, will i?
yea, that part of the plane provides no lift, thus not losing the ability to take of, only the ability to fly well.
not as bad an episode as it could have been, but not a plot i enjoy.
ep18 The Case of the Guy Who Looks Very Good For A 2000 Year Old.
that's some impressive lighting. just in general it visually striking at the start.
you are digging with heavy machinery, why worry about a dog. lets rephrase that: YOU ARE DOING AN ARCHEOLOGICAL DIG WITH HEAVY MACHINERY WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING!?
just good standard episode that i don't have a lot to say about (i think i used enough words to describe general episodes already).
ep19 The Case of the Gobbling Goop.
a substance that can seemingly instantly turn metal to rust goop. uhm... that seems pretty useless. why not recycle? unrusting partially rusted metal seems easier then rust goop.
Jo with a crush on... some.. guy. welp, this'll be painful.
so when sneaking around you probably don't want high heels. i don't have any true high heels myself, mine are pretty quiet, but the real ones tend to make a clack with every step, not exactly subtle.
ok, the super rust stuff would fuck up clothes a lot more then that. also pretty sure that the buoyant vests would near completely disassemble.
would you be able to swim all tied up? yes. if you have hands free you can stay afloat, if you can still bend legs you can still kick. it may take skill and may be very hard depending on how heavy the ropes are, but if you're a strong swimmer you'd live. otherwise it would be a brutal death.
the molecular structure of potato salad? no the fuck it isn't. that would have to include the molecular structure of potato dna. that would take you at minimum days if not weeks to write down.
ep20 The Case of the Surfer Dude Who is Truly Rude.
what surfer isn't able to swim in the sea? don't get me wrong, the sea is dangerous as fuck, but as surfer you should know how to stay safe, plus that wasn't dangerous. if you can float (hold your breath and you will) and you'd be fine.
fun (?) fact: the sand that's used in sandcastle competitions isn't from the beach, beach sand is too round and smoothed by the sea, they need to import rougher sand that'll stick to each other better.
"brodo baggins" some lines are just worth repeating. also no the fuck you aren't going under water with a life vest.
on a minor note i've really grown to like characters wearing different outfits in shows like this. strange things you start noticing when you figure out "wait, clothes aren't boring when i'm not forced to wear the ugly fitted ones."
that... doesn't look like it'll keep you particularly stuck. the wood is weak, so you could break more of it off to make the hole larger to get out.
ep21 The Case of the Cactus, The Coot and The Cowboy Boot.
sooo, the bad guy could have just asked "hey, sorry, that cactus was misplaced, could you pick another one please?" and they would never be uncovered.
so i believe there are many different types of spicy. both mustard and chilly peppers are spicy, but able to handle one well doesn't help you with the other. i can take a lot of mustard, but a small amount of chilly can bake it inedible. (i really don't like chilly spicy. mustard also tastes like it's own thing, not just pain, at least in my experience)
now here's a fun question: two ways of solving problems seem extremely obvious to me. greasy fingers revealing the code and learning what was written on a removed page on a notebook from the impression. the question: did this show do something very obvious, or are they very obvious to me as i saw this episode a bunch as a kid?
you know, maybe don't put people who are driving a metal box as many kilometers an hour to sleep, that's probably more dangerous then letting steal some jewels.
ep22 The Case of the Seal Who Gets All Up In Your Face.
oh, is this the episode they've been slightly building up to the last two episodes? it's a first for that.
damn, first time i truly remember a bad guy. i don't remember anything about them, but i remember that face and voice. both of them.
so i'm sure they they had rules they had to follow that the kids were not allowed to go into water in regular clothes but had to be appropriately dressed. but it results in them seeing someone struggle in the ocean, having to put on a wetsuit and then going out to save him. if that happens you take of your shoos and probably jeans (too heavy), dump the clothes you can while on your way to water and jump in.
i truly don't know why i remember these badguys, there's nothing remarkable about them.
"sure he's in handcuffs but so many [celebrities] are these days." that ages horrifyingly well.
ep23 The Case of the Snow, The Glow and The OH-NO!.
i'm always surprised by how much the villains are prepared to kill the kids.
perfectly fine episode, but results in me having little to say. yea sure magic mineral but that's pretty standard at this point.
ep24 The Case of the Fish That Flew The Coop.
you lot call a sluis a lock? the things in rivers or canals to take a ship from one elevation of water to another. i mean not that sluis (as far as i know) means anything but it's a unique thing, i don't know at all what they have to do with a lock. apparently sluice is a different word for it in english. but that sure as fuck seems like they just stole the dutch word, which isn't uncommon for water works.
wouldn't you have a gate handle on on your ship, like it's just a metal pole, seems pretty standard equipment.
it's amazing what i do and don't remember. the winter themed boat? sharp in my mind, the fucking crocodile? complete surprise.
ep25 The Case of the Smashed and Tangled Muesem.
what is people's obsession with the titanic anyways? it was a big fancy ship that sank and was a tragedy, sure, but why care so much about it? bigger tragedies happen all the time and have happened all the time in the past? suggestion: maybe it was a pretty non-political tragedy, though i doubt that too, after all it didn't have proper safety regulations which is why so many people died.
i mean drowning them in such a room? fat chance. water is HEAVY. one of three things would happen. either the water will force the door open, the water would destroy one of the walls, or the floor would give in. seriously people have to be careful with the weight of moderately sized aquariums.
truly amazing that 2100 year old isn't that old for ancient Egyptian stuff. it's hard to appreciate just how old that stuff gets.
so this person just tried to drown her uni friends kid, niece and nephews? and that's just glossed over?
no the fuck she wasn't. if there was one thing Cleopatra was it was learned, vein was just the smear campaign because she sided with one person instead of another.
ep26 The Case of the Golden Medal and the Horse of Steel.
last episode of the show, but i don't expect some grand finaly.
it's a good last episode, not like it's a real finally, could have switched it with ep 3 and nothing would have really changed. but it's a fine enough ending.
also love that when the kids tell the police to arrest someone they just will, it's been established that they know what they're talking about and it's just a hilarious dynamic.
overall the show is good, nothing spectacular, but good without anything jikes, which is always a worry with older shows.
(re)watching Famous 5: on the case
now this is, i believe, a show i saw as a kid when it was on tv. if it is the correct one then i saw it dubbed. this is a show that i have memories from. 4 kids and their dog investigating stuff. if that sounds like scooby doo then you're probably correct. both are stupid old, don't know which on is older though i'm guessing the famous 5 books.
ep 1 The Case Of The Fudgie Fry Pirates
oh fuck yea this is the show i remember. fuck that intro hit like crazy. in part because the audio was too loud. mostly because i remember this song, even if i didn't understand it back in those days. pre good English apparently.
ok, that is NOT the voice i expected. finding some of the dutch dub quickly is harder then i can be bothered to, but i'm guessing the dark haired lady had a lower voice in the dutch dub. this'll take some getting used to. in part also weird as i'm pretty sure i had a massive crush on her. (because cool sporty girl and i've apparently always been an incredibly stereotypical lesbian)
so we have down to earth Jo, rich(?) Eli(?), video and probably tech guy and sports conspiracy guy.
it's the weirdest things that really trigger memories, like the jingle at a scene change. also the aunt is really and i completely forgot her.
vague memories of the enemy, but man do i think it's way better in the origional dub with a strong bri'ish accent (:
"they're pirating movies!!!!" yea... whatever villain would do such a thing?.. me, the answer is me, or at least i watch all this stuff without paying because i don't have an income and the who would be getting my money wouldn't need any more on top of their millions.
little pinset to break out. i was afraid they were going to lock pick the door, but no, it's to take the lock of the door. it would take more time then that, but depending on the door and lock style way more reasonable.
ep2 The Case Of The Plant That Could Eat Your House
rich girl knows how to pick a lock? ...i mean ok i'm trying to learn how to pick a lock but that's not for trying to break out of/into anything. that's just to fuck around with locks... yea no one will believe that will they.
ominous bamboo. i mean yea it can grow stupid quick, but ominous isn't quite what i'd call it. extremely fast growing plant to quickly regrow damaged area... sounds neat, but unless it's easy to overtake for other plants it would just take over.
oh yea the police lady was fun. the fun combo of awesome and delightful.
oh long lost memories: these two snobby kids managed to stick in somewhere. our memory truly is a weird thing. my memory is shit, but i remember so much from this show that wasn't on tv for very long and while i wasn't that big into tv.
only now truly picking up on that they made Jo interracial. as kid you don't notice such things, just that people look different. but it makes people looking different normal which is obviously a really good thing.
the show also has a big part of ladies can be ladies but they can also be badass at the same time. my example will be really showing but think mlp Rarity. yea, girls can love makeup and stuff like that, doesn't stop them from standing up for themselves or being good at sports.
well, that ending made no sense, but about what i'd expect. too many plots do to them all well. also i clearly hear the gesundheit, but i swear i hear something else as well. are they using different versions of bless you after sneezing? if so, neat, if not... why go with the german version? i mean i prefer it as it's just "good health" and means "i wish you good health while acknowledging that you made a loud noise that could even indicate sickness" (just like in dutch) over the english "i speak a magic spell of christianity over you because in the origins of the religion when you sneeze your soul leaves your body and it has to be warded from evil spirits that would take it's place". it's silly when you believe the religion, it's even weirder if you don't. yea, i may start using gesundheit instead in english. less silly that way.
also the dude talking between shows on the English channel this was (i assume) taken from is always so weird. like i know it from the BBC, but i only really know it from after watching gardeners world with my mother which it's linked to in my mind, so having it after a kid show just feels weird.
ep6 The Case Of The Thief Who Drinks From The Toilet
i do appreciate the verities of hobbies they partake in.
"do you have furniture misses X?" "of course." "then i'm afraid you've been robbed." the show has some fun lines like these.
making the vet the villain is a choice. i mean it's not exactly a person a child has to directly deal with. but making the person that chips your pet the villain definitely won't help with the "vaccines are just evil doctors putting microchips in you", though i don't know if morons like them were as vocally around back then. ok, they didn't make the chip bad, which i think was a smart choice, and with that also kept things way more realistic (other then the range trough)
ep7 The Case Of The Hot-Air Ba-Boom!
the weird discomfort of hearing fabric tear and knowing it'll never be repaired. truly yet weirdly sad in my mind. i fear it's just a very me thing trough with a deep fear of permanent damage. if it's not just me please let me know.
damn, the biggest villain discovered trough myriad knowledge.
don't try to hide from a tiger in a tree, they are better climbers then you are.
"i'll send you the bill" "and i will tear it up." still many good lines.
less a fan of the subplot. you can be yourself plots often end up with character becoming a characature of themselves. sure, she's into makeup and stuff, but in other episodes it didn't stop her from being badass, while here they're set opposing one another.
ep8 The Case Of The Stinky Smell
guy asks for hairband. girl does not make comment on how that's not very manly, does make comment on that she doesn't have a good colour for him. you see this i appreciate.
a not very (at all) subtle empower women message while not delving into it as it's not interesting for kids. just "i learn a lot of stuff from you, like being empowered, whatever that is.". just adding it to the things that are normal and good. this show honestly has more too it then i'd expect. guess that's parts of why it stuck so much that i wanted to revisit it compared to many other shows from my childhood.
ok, i think first time the show got me laughing out loud. "remember last year when we painted the barn?" "i was so full of red spots i looked like a spotted leopard" "which is odd as we painted the barn green". just such a beautiful nonsensical conclusion.
ep3 The Case Of The Impolite, Snarly Thing
the show really has the nonsensical humour down. "it's 2 hours by train. or, and i don't know why you'd want to do this, 18 hours by pogo stick." i don't know if it's British humour or just this show but it keeps just cracking me up. "it's been around longer then prince Philip"
seems like the show is going a true scooby doo story with someone pretending to be a monster for selfish gain.
ok, i seriously can't stop laughing. 4 minutes 20 in, if you're good enough at English give it a watch, you won't be disappointed.
bringing up how companies paid with fake money for a second... why? "sweat deal for the company" i mean to me that sounds like something as evil as is appropriate for a town paying you with fake money so you can never leave their town, but i don't know if most kids would be able to get that.
oh gods this is from the time when cell phones were primarily and really just phones. not the (to me at least) weaker computer you always have with you. sometimes it takes media from a bit but not too long ago to remember how fast tech has moved.
"i bet your cellphone can't do that", that being point north. give is a couple years and you don't just have a compass but your position on the worlds map at all time... not sure if it would work underground though.
athletic old lady... neat!
ep4 The Case Of The Sticks And Their Tricks
oh, recurring villain? maybe not and they just look similar with a somewhat similar voice. also poisoning a tree would take long. like lets say it kills it in a day... then it's a dead tree, wood, the stuff we make houses out of. a tree dying means leaves will fall of, but the rest will stay up right for quite some time. ok, actually addressed in the show. it keeps being more realistic then i'm anticipating.
ep5 The Case Of The Plot To Pull The Plug
"on second though i'll be throwing up first" honestly fair
British person threatening more British person for sounding daft, so fun as an outsider... how the fuck did they do this one in the dutch dub? just have the twat speak oldtimy?
pretty good plot too, probably one of the best episodes so far.
ep9 The Case Of The Defective Detective
is it bad when i hear person that goes on adventures then turns those into books that my first reference is daring do from mlpfim?
"if you're going to cross this field you better be able to do it in 7 second, because our bull can do it in 8".
fuck i do still want to try a corset. anyone happen to know where you can buy a nice one?
pretty neat twist, and i do appreciate the diversity. also pretty neat bluff at the end.
ep10 The Case Of Allies Really Very Bad Singing
these episodes really are more "how do they catch them" instead of "who done it", who did it is generally revealed to the viewer a couple minutes in, while the crew tends to figure it out half or 3/4 of the way trough. it's pretty neat. kind of collumbo but always ending with a chase of some sort in which they get pretty inventive.
ah, those times when saying "i stored is all in my usb drive" wasn't insane yet... maybe it isn't insane still if you don't save hours of videos, many video games and thousands of images, i wouldn't know, those are my baseline.
really clever conclusions.
ep11 The Case Of The Medieval Meathead
oh i remember this episode bigtime. i think the mystery wasn't the set up mystery but that it was being solved along the way. i think the person that fake gets murdered did it. really i just remember the dark skinned king. it really is the diversity that truly stuck with me over the years.
medieval-ly talk on a strong British accent with some serious compression. damn now we're getting to the edge of what i can understand.
also Jo stays such a fucking mood. i think she really just was gender envy personified to me.
also got to love the coplady who's very much a woman, but makes sure to also be buff af.
pretty brutal. i mean the villains have been pretty brutal before, but this is drowning. a painful death.
mostly a good episode, really big fan of the diversity especially in this one. also i really need to get myself a witchy outfit one day too. fuck that's the second clothing wish list reminder this show gave.
ep13 The Case Of The Guy Who Makes You Act Like A Chicken
the circus are the badguys? that has some... unfortunate roots.
first time we see Jo's dad's face. i didn't remember the running joke, i didn't remember it ended. also the scheme is pretty fun, but damn does this episode feel the most aged. like the theme has often been that the new person is the culprit, other wise you get cabbot cove where somehow everyone is an eccentric killer yet no one seems to notice the trend, but that it's the circus makes it feel worse.
at least the villain was the most regular white dude out of the lot of them, but still, not the best feeling episode. at least not the one they ended on, that one is
ep12 The Case Of The Messy Mucked Up Masterpiece
oh, brittish show does an american. fun :D
oh, a man pretending to be a woman. this will either be a meh joke or extremely transphobic. it was meh, thank the gods. nevermind. sigh.
ending on a pretty standard good episode with but one not great moment, but it could be a lot worse.
overall rather good show that definitely left quite an impression. maybe give it a watch as the jokes do still really work and are rather outlandish in a very fun way to probably most people.
found this piece of critsism on wikipedia: "and my concern is that modern kids who watch this will think that the Famous Five is all about gadgets and multi-culturalism.", gadgets are not a real thing in the show at all, and the multi-culturalism and Jo are the reasons i at least remember it. them missing from the one famous 5 book i read after this show got me interested is why i never read another one of those books.
also oh shit that wasn't the final episode, i'll have to scour the internet for the other 13. the site i was watching on didn't have the rest. that's also why the order of episodes is fucked a bit.

the bad batch season 2
really liked season one, trough probably too much because i headcanon Omega as trans.
Omega is badass now? cool.
Cid is damn manipulative... by having a valid point.
the call for adventure of the season: help people. they are good people, helping when the opportunity arises, seems like they'll be making the step to looking for places to help.
i just realized something i really like in this over clone wars: people can't die. don't get me wrong, it was neat, but it also meant you wouldn't get to know the cast. in this the cast is an actual cast.
oh, that's one fucking cliffhanger, strong opening.
stop being stupid, you can't run on a broken leg... i mean you can, but you shouldn't.
they were hunted by Wilco... the name sound familiar, but my memory for names is ass. also he's dead now, so not that it really matters. i literally caught it on his death grunt.
i do like the message, but i wonder where they'll be going with it.
Crosshair episode? also cody again, probably about to die too.
there's always something neat about a sniper just sniping overly well.
maybe not, maybe cody is able to leave and live. more likely not. the only reasonable way to achieve that is by linking up with Rex or task force 99. and i don't recall him being with Rex in rebels.
well damn, he went awol. hope we'll see him again.
i love a good race, especially layed out well, and it was. good episode
ok i'll admit it my gay hart is losing it over phee, worried she'll turn out to be the villain, or at least not trustworthy.
pre jedi stuff. how will not force users make it trough here. also they're going big with the music.
i was sure it would be a kibar cristal (lightsabre core). oh, it's big.
so i really did recognise him... HOW?!
the message of the show seems to me "people need their people". now this isn't a bad message, but is easily malformed.
ah, so wookies are argonians.
"don't stand where i'm flamethrowing"
i really like where she moved. how she seems to have grown... it's probably going to get her killed isn't it? ep 7 btw.
i love the leitmotifs.
damnit two parter? i need to prepare, not need to watch part two... oh well.
Echo's role is always the most questionable to me, but here they really found a role for him.
fuck he's such a politician. (yes that is obviously an insult)
feels fitting for Echo, the old squad reuniting... yet also we know this isn't where he ends up. after all i watched rebels.
hello purple hair, should i know you already?
and it's given proper weight, nice.
tech is autistic isn't he? because my god can he be almost stereotypically oblivious. damn growth for tech. also yea you'll always lose against water.
oh, this really just is the neurodivergent episode... and i think it's handled pretty well. episode 9. Techs and Omega's conversation around 22 minutes is very good.
nope purple hair is not someone we know, and definitely doesn't have cool feather hair.
ugly and disabled means evil... not a fan.
the workers suffer while and to increase the profit of the company? what a new story, good thing such things never happen in the real world /s. if only the solutions were ever more realistic. revealing the truth never changed anything. but obviously disney doesn't want to tell that.
a broken space dropping out of hyperdrive?
oh shit, they're continuing with what i thought was a dropped plotpoint. but why though? what do they plan to do with this plot now?
Rex? doesn't look like him, but certain talks like him. and i don't just mean same voice. i mean how and what he says. ep 12
oh, is this the deserting episode? they have been building it up.
in case it wasn't obvious enough the empire was evil and a bunch of dicks.
welcome to cold, the cruellest, slowest killer. the cruellest part may be the hope. there's nothing you'll survive better then cold, because while it kills you it also preserves you. you can hope to make it, until the moment you die. and the people who find your body will feel that same hope until your corpse is warmed up. it's a blessing too, for you'll survive it more often then drowning, but the hope is cruel.
damn that ending though.
are they planning to split to group up further? i mean probably the right decision, but not healthy for the series i think. they are making this play too idyllic, like 80% sure it'll either be destroyed or secretly evil. the only reason i'd say maybe not is because they seemed to have put too much afford into the assets to throw it all away. of all the enemies to throw at the it, this is one of the most mundane and with that cool. especially in it's accuracy.
also did they hint at this ship before? i didn't notice it but i'm notoriously bind to this type of ship. or did they introduce it in this episode.
that ship sure looks like the ghost.
"i suggest i you proceed before i come to my senses"
two things i still really like: Wrecker is allowed to be afraid of heights and it's not a flaw. a hinderance and a weakness, sure. but everyone has those. it's not something that's wrong with him that must be changed. Omega is trusted with important tasks and is competent. she's not just a tag along kid, she's an actual member of the team with useful skills like any of them.
there's going to be more then one team working here, that'll be a problem. called it, and called it... fuck. this season won't end in a successful rescue. they better be getting a season 3.
on no. i see the solution, Tech does too. please don't. yet you must. fuck. come on, it's too early in the episode for a mayor character death. right? unless the rest of the episode it to come to terms with the loss. i'm wrong... right? i mean... the start of the episode did set it up, but, like.. no?
this feels like an episode where they all die... but that can't be. they have an unresolved plot. whatsit fuck face needs omege, she needs to be captured and then rescued. that's how those plots go. everyone can't die, not yet at least, the plot demands it... right?
ok... they "salvaged" him. that has to mean he's alive... right? fuck i already know a friend of mine would call out my hopium.
another female clone? the fuck? also how can you be here? do what you do? that just doesn't make sense? trying to improve the system from the inside? that won't work with the empire, and if you were a mole you'd be a shit one. they're really hoping they'll get another season.

watching disenchantment season 3
big spoilers. i recommend it a lot. it can be harrowing, but the ending is so worth it. if you might watch it i recommend you do. otherwise, lets delve in.
the intro promises the love pendant to be broken and the screwed crown to be bloodied. those are very bad signs even with the better ones. a book that on a page is a stairway down? holy shit stealing that for my DND campaign. was that a visual gag, or what that more future plot points? and Bean has the endless conflict between the life she wants and the people she cares about. too good of a person to have a simple easy life.
on the one side Mora is being more rude then usual. on the other her girlfriend did just say no to running of with her over friends she doesn't know. damn, with a girlfriend like that Bean with have powerful AF muscles in no time, truly hope that's the way they're taking this. beating her mom with the strength literally gained from her girlfriend would be just so beautifully cheesy. satan is going to become a goodguy just to get rid of his wife isn't he. damn, that 3d was pretty good. i mean if you know what to look for you notice that it's not the 2d models, but you need to know to look for it. there are definitely some potholes in this one. like the conflict between Bean and Nora if you think too much about certain events does not line up, but when you just take it like a normal person it really works. don't know if i like the people constantly splitting up, but it does allow for more things to happens. it's simply hard to have too many people act at the same time and certain people make others largely useless. Elfo doesn't have a lot do to when Bean is around. he fits in small things and can be easily motivated, but that's it, any other activity Bean is simply better at. he works as friend of Bean of course, but she's less reliant on others to take action now. split apart there are just more conflicts that can be interesting.
yea, ok, this conversation is painful. i mean i get that that's the joke, but it's painful because it seems like a stupid way i could come across if i stopped worrying about how things i say come across, something i in general worry too much about making friendships incredibly hard. "it's like they took a nunnery and made it awesome", ah, a lesbian bar. oh, how odd that they did the same thing twise. first with lucy and now with bad beans body. of all parts of the body that you should not be hanging from THE HEAD IS NUMBER ONE! but the overall plan makes sense, i wonder if it'll come to fruition in a more willing manor. also pretty avatar legends of Korra. oh those are working together, that's not good. that means Bean is really running out of allies. fucking hell, i'm trying to watch this while doing something else. i end up just watching it. and then it comes with these strong cliffhangers meaning that stopping to watch is also really hard.
oh... he's just dead... fuck... that... sets stakes. i mean Elfo and Luci will probably be fine, but this may be the death of Miri. well, that's one problem... delayed some more, and another... solved, and replaced for getting lost.
ok, so yes, Elfo's death set a lot of bad things into motion, undoing it also removed Mora and the great relationship Bean has with Zog, if you could ask Bean it would be a hard question. OH, that's a fun plot twist. Miri isn't human? oh. that... well it explains nothing, but it's neat.
oh, she's finally allowed to start seriously winning. it really feels like an earned powerup. in part because it has been set up well, in other because FUCKING HELL LET HER BE HAPPY DAMNIT. oh. i thought they were allowed to get away to, idk, be a minibos later. nope, instead killed to set up some evilness.
oh. making her sound mad. yea, not a joke i think works in universe. like there's one fuck setting with a non mechanical function metal prosthetic. yes i know my immersion is broken by the strangest things but it's bugging me. damn, setting up something heavy, destroy yourself the saves the ones you love? i mean media in general says "do it and for your good deed you'll survive", but i'm afraid they won't do that here. it's either better, or much, much worse. maybe a reset and you get to rebuild your life, but i'm not fan of those endings either. don't undo everything we've grown to care about, even if it can be rebuild. one is planning to kill, the other is planning to delete.
everyone's coming together for (hopefully) the final finally. oh, the tune return. i wonder if there's a meaning to it or if it's just creepy for creepy sake. fuck this battle has some epic moments. i mean there's only so much you can do with the animation style, but fuck they truly do everything possible with it. NO, you can't do that. healing magic? not real? i was fearing that, the scene seemed awfully similar before. DON'T YOU FUCKING DARE END IT LIKE THAT!
yea, no, obviously there's no care left. for episodes it was set up she cared most for Mora. the show has struggled at times to set things up, Beans magic, was probably the only thing set up more. the only motivation could be the same as Dracula in the castlevania show: a long suicide. a rocket, to the moon? why though? well fuck, now everyone is dying. i'm hoping not permanently, but i don't trust it isn't. :O he killed god "love conquers everything, and anger helps"
goodbye Bean is not a promising title, especially after the last episodes cliffhanger. AND NO i will not be ok with Bean and Mora being together in heaven. oh, magic came from the tears of joy of angers mixed with steam from hell. what will tears of sadness do? i just realized what i want: i want dangmar to have a third act breakdown finally. i love Luci's arc. it has totally nothing to do with that i wrote his speech multiple times already in less elegant words. "i've always hated weddings, especially my own" the show has such good lines. not the gay wedding i was expecting, but still one i'm very happy about. i love an overly happy ending. finally a happy ending, it was such a long wait, but it was worth it. YES, finally the third act breakdown.
wait... but the world is flat. so how it it on the other side of the moon? also what a random reveal. it adds nothing, it takes nothing away. it's "what a twist!"
incredibly unbelievable happy ending. I LOVE IT!!! literally every plot point is is resolved, even the ones even i forgot about.
seriously the show had a lot of frustration to it, victories often fell flat, setbacks and defeats were often and big, and as someone who likes happy endings it was often dreadful. honestly i don't know why i kept watching. i guess just something made clear they had plans. sure, details about people plans seemed often not fully planned out in advance, but the arcs of characters? those were old, and they revealed they were working up to the happy ending i was after for so long. Really good series, highly recommend, fuck me if it can't be harrowing, which is why i'm writing it at 2 am because i needed to get to the end.
and i finally got the best way to describe it: the show is cynical, but not pessimistic.

watching disenchantment season 2
ok, setting up the story with the king, now what will they be doing with bean?
huh, moms reflections disappeared when the water was hit. makes me think she's not really there. something like an illusion can be seen in waving water as it's too hard to figure out how it should reflect.
"make dreamland great again" ok that made me to a dry spittake (it's like a spittake, except you got nothing in your mouth to spit out). we're getting extremely political here. like that's just condemning trump, now way to avoid it.
damn, that's a horrible way to go. if you're lucky you'll run out of air quick.
i mean obviously that wasn't going to be how we'd get rid of the first real villain, but damn would it be great if she died.
ok, that's a lot of honestly on the nature of witchhunts.
oh, luci is whistling the elves song, and elfo is pulling pranks. it seems like they're going to do some cool shit with those two.
oh damn they are just killing of major side character at present. like they had the chance to return to a level of status quo, but no, the story is moving forwards. would love it if the pirate queen stuck around.
the forest sign is always a fun joke.
don't like mixing settings too much, but i would love to see bean do well in steamworld.
random note about something in the first season but i never took the time to properly appreciate their hell. it's not eternal torture. sure, there's some, but the real hell is having to experience the worst part of your life over and over and over again, being forced to dwell on it forever. now this requires a mind that would dwell on it, but of those that do little could be worse.
man bean can be very oblivious to romance. i'm sure that started headcannons of things like ace or aro. this isn't critique of such headcannons btw. those groups so very rarely get explicit representation so headcannon is the only way to go. i means lesbians do get such representation yet i'll still headcannon bean as missing hints from guys because of being gay, only slightly inspired by posts i saw in the past.
one trope i hate is magic is just science. it makes it so magic is limited by technology, it has hard borders, it can't grow, it forces magic into the structure of science. and at the same time it tends to remove the logic of science, if science is responsible for magic it can't follow the logic we know. luckily, this isn't that. a think i like is magic is a part of science just like any other part of the world. instead of forcing magic into the structure of science it forces science into the structure of magic. it's not that magic has the be ordered or have defined boundaries, instead this is using a lens of realism in a good way. if you live in a world with magic then people would want to learn about it just like people in a world with chemistry want to learn about that. people will try to learn about it, how to use it and how to use it reliably. magic can be as hard or as soft with or without rules, this is about how people act towards it and i love it. this isn't that either. instead it's magic is science we don't understand yet. this is just reality. your pain goes away when you chew on willow bark or "tea" brewed from it? until you figure out neurons and painkillers it's clearly magic, yet it's just everyday stuff to us now. now i hate this when it makes magic less impressive, but magic in this show has always felt more like super chemistry (it functions like chemistry, but it's effects are way more extreme) instead of magic, so i think it works here.
Elfo making friend in the freakshow is really nice.
ok, bean is oblivious to romance even by my standards
i'm very interested too where they are going with lucy. is he going to continue his arc of being more good? and damn the king has it rough. being aware of going crazy? that has got to be one of the worst things that can happen to you.
oh, that's a twist. remember that bit block about magic? yea, turns out i may have been wrong.
gosh i hope this romance is for real. if it is it's really well done.
"when does scurvy kick in" today in questions you should never ask yourself. also 3 months without vitamin C. so don't go without fruit for a long time. if you do and you start taking vitamin C again you'll make a full recovery in 2 weeks. this has been a PSA, i guess.
man, so many double meanings. and that better not be the last of her.
ok, mother daughter moment between oona and bean is amazing. i mean i wouldn't add drugs to the mix, but i also wouldn't add alcohol or smokes, and many other people would, and i fail to see a difference between alcohol and drugs (alcohol is a drug after all) and can help some people.
oh, we're "eh tu brutus"ing this? oh, more then i expected at the start... oh shit, i know how brutus'll be. oh, that plan was even worse in a way.
oh, the border is like the dutch belgium border (very niche joke. so highways in the netherlands are exceptionally smooth compared to those in belgium. you can literally feel the change as the ride goes from smooth to bumpy or vice versa. their roads are way better lit though.)
damn, that felt like a filler episode. but a very good one. s2ep8
they got the most important part of a siege correct: make sure people don't starve. walls generally mean people can't get in, that they can be held off, even with much smaller numbers (100 to 1 could be withstood), but both sides would try to starve the other. inside could stock up on food, but outside to get more.
didn't know if they would ever get here. but i'm happy they did. becoming queen, the end of the long arc of struggling for the ability to have any control. now i hope she's actually able to stop whatever is coming. if she can't and has to leave to get help then sure we'll have some drama in the realm of "i was in charge but i failed" but i think actually having her able to complete that one arc would be a lot more interesting. instead of self doubt it would be a weight of responsibility, and i think seeing bean deal with that would be a lot more interesting. the title of the next episode, "Bean Falls Down", doesn't instil me with confidence though.
they payoff to the green smoke is... not great. but lets see where they go with it.
that certainly makes the dress she's wearing fit. and damn they sure love getting everyone in peril and split up at endings to parts. also Luci's death and end are amazing.
oh, the intro promises bean with weapons, would love to see that more.
at least she's not a willing damsel in distress. it's always fun when you don't know who's going to save who.
no matter what that was a plan subverted. supposedly everything up to now was one big plan, or at least a lot was, but this was 100% a plan subverted, a true win.
and damn that's a neat new hook. sadly this time no lesbian lover i fear, but i (always) hope i'm wrong on that.
well you don't have to call me out for watching a cartoon at midnight... also it's not midnight (that'll take like 80 minutes)
damn, that's a neat way of resolving some old arcs. but wait, we never got bean with a bow? did this episode go trough some big revisions?
anything chaz is always sinister yet actually good. and it's such a funny running gag. wholesome, in a creepy way.
interesting change for Zog, would love to see where it goes
oh, that throw away joke was foreshadowing wasn't it. the show is rather good about it. and no i won't tell what i'm referring too so now every throw away joke is suspect in your head :P
the conflict was... meh, but the things it set up are very neat.
oh those two ruling together? this'll last for about a minute.
oh how testicles can fuck up your ability to sing. threaten to cut them off? don't threaten me with a good time.
seriously with the amount of secret tunnels in the castle and the rock it's a miracle there's still any rock.
oh, that's not the water creature i was expecting, i was hoping the return of Mora (not off the table yet) but these are creepy little fucks.
oh, yea, they'd all be fucking dead.
also if you ever have to repare to swim with clothes: lose as many clothes as possible; you wearing a vest or skirt that's easy to take of? TAKE THEM OFF. ESPECIALLY take off your shoos. they are heavy and restrict movement of the Most important body part while swimming.
please don't let this be a "she gets distracted from the real problem by romance" plot. just let her have something nice, please? oh, seems like not the plot, and instead a message that's the EXACT OPPOSITE... nice. also "there's never a right time for romance"... do you really have to call me on my bs of "i'll wait till i start hrt"? common, it's not fair if my escapism is calling me out. oh, so many twists. romance gets more complicated, a new addition to the plot, and what we learn will be a twist for the characters in the future.
the dream element of dreamland has really grown on me. it started feeling a bit contrived, but they use it interestingly. "it's not what you want, it's what you deserve" oh fuck that is so good. kind of like the end of raiders of the lost arc, but with much more interesting parts to it. it's literally karma juice
oh, OH, that's a good twist on what the dream is doing. but why is she her mom? fucking hell she needs therapy. serious vibes of "this could kill me, but eh fuck it it may not"
the intro promises something good. bean working trough some serious shit with her unconcious. the title, "bean falls apart" not so much. and it's a finally, which so far have always ended bad. serious fear for the show: it end on one of those bad endings and then gets cancelled. and the plot continues to thicken. it could be good for one person, but fuck man. honestly this is a series i want to end. not because it's bad or getting worse, but because i want a good ending to happen. i just want things to work out. like even the extremely slow moving plots are fine but there's just so much worry it won't get the good ending the characters deserve. everyone grew so much and i just want them to be happy.
