FEMA is doing an emergency alert test on all TVs, radios, and cell phones on October 4, 2023, at approximately 2:20pm ET.
If you live in the US and you have a phone you need to keep secret for any reason, make sure that it is turned off at this time.
Yes, I'm doing this months in advance, and yes, my blog has very little reach, but I figure better to post about it more than less.
Please reblog and add better tags than mine, I'm bad at tags.

ik its almost a stigma to not like dogs (or at least you’ll get dogpiled for saying it heh) so I want to see via anonymous vote here
fyi this is separate to wanting/being able to own a dog. if you like dogs but cant own one or dont think you’d be able to deal with all the responsibility so you wont get one, then thats still an ‘i like dogs’ answer

8 + 13 + 20 because i'm a perfect little angel
/ @horsedadgeralt
Fuck. alright 8 and 13 first from this ask list here
8 "If you had to write an entire story without either action or dialogue, which would you choose and how would it go?"
Totally go no dialogue. I've done some fics like that before and the idea of writing something between two characters without a word between them but them still being able to understand would be such a good challenge and I honestly would have a blast at it.
13 "What is a subject matter that is incredibly difficult for you write about? What is easy?"
Uh. I am shit at writing kids lol. I just cannot. I was never really a kid myself and I have no real good sense of how to do them well. I'm running a dnd campaign right now and i have a pair of twins thats about to help one of my players and they're like 11 or 12 and boy howdy am i stressing over that interaction.
Easy? Oh baby, you know exactly what it is. Angst, baby! Heartache baby! Ruining lives and tearing out souls and crushing dreams, baby! Hurt no comfort forever!
20. "If a witch offered you the choice between eternal happiness with your one true love and the ability to finally finish, perfect, and publish your dearest, darlingest, most precious WIP in exactly the way you’ve always imagined it — which would you choose? You can’t have both sorry, life’s a bitch"
(I am so sorry for the whole ass dissertation this question pulled from me)
I know this is very much against the nature of the question and it feels like an out, but I promise I will actually answer the question in a second but! I am not one to believe in true love, or at least a singular true love nor does the idea of being eternally happy appeal to me if it is the only thing I get to feel. Nor does as a creative the concept of perfection pretty much for the same reason. Perfection and eternal happiness leaves no room for the context of being able to strive for those things.
And the idea of a singular true love is disheartening just on a statistical level but also so limiting. I went through several ringers in the last few years which left me a very different person. But I was given those chances to change, to grow, to keep going. And I have. A true love and eternal happiness doesn't feel like it would have the same thing. There is no change, no shifting, a consistence that spans into a flat eternity.
So like the shitty answer is neither but that just feels lazy lol. Life's a bitch and you have to make choices too.
That being said.
WIPs come and go, projects change and creative endeavors crop up when you least expect them. It's a hobby of mine and one that I enjoy. I have always been ambitious and I have always burned. But maybe. I wouldn't have to do that alone. Just because I get true love, whatever that looks like, doesn't stop. Though now realizing that maybe being eternally happy means finding contentment and thus no need to be ambitious. (this is turning into a real monkey's paw my guy). But after the last however long... Maybe some peace would be an extremely welcome change. So yeah. True love I suppose.

For the other asks, 7. What is your deepest joy about writing? and 16. What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever used as a bookmark? <3
Wren! <3
I seriously had to think about what my deepest joy of writing is. I think watching the threads come together in something I'm working on. Like when I had this kind of general idea and maybe I didn't get there, but the point I did get to lines up. It's really satisfying.
16. Oh shit. I've used some whack shit as bookmarks and I'm sure I am missing some but i can just tell you a couple
a (clean) butter knife
a tea bag
pens/pencils/highlighters
another book that one time
my passport
a mostly empty bag of skittles
a completely empty bag of skittles
Yarn/knitting needles
headphones
my phone
my ex's phone
car keys
a stabby knife (also clean)
This list is he product of a mixture of adhd and reading in places that i had to then move from v quickly lol.

Weird Questions for Writers (because writers are weird)
1. What font do you write in? Do you actually care or is that just the default setting?
2. If you had to give up your keyboard and write your stories exclusively by hand, could you do it? If you already write everything by hand, a) are you a wizard and b) pen or pencil?
3. What is your writing ritual and why is it cursed?
4. What’s a word that makes you go absolutely feral?
5. Do you have any writing superstitions? What are they and why are they 100% true?
6. What is your darkest fear about writing?
7. What is your deepest joy about writing?
8. If you had to write an entire story without either action or dialogue, which would you choose and how would it go?
9. Do you believe in ghosts? This isn’t about writing I just wanna know
10. Has a piece of writing ever “haunted” you? Has your own writing haunted you? What does that mean to you?
11. Do you believe in the old advice to “kill your darlings?” Are you a ruthless darling assassin? What happens to the darlings you murder? Do you have a darling graveyard? Do you grieve?
12. If a genie offered you three writing wishes, what would they be? Btw if you wish for more wishes the genie turns all your current WIPs into Lorem Ipsum, I don’t make the rules
13. What is a subject matter that is incredibly difficult for you write about? What is easy?
14. Do you lend your books to people? Are people scared to borrow books from you? Do you know exactly where all your “lost” books are and which specific friend from school you haven’t seen in twelve years still possesses them? Will you ever get them back?
15. Do you write in the margins of your books? Dog-ear your pages? Read in the bath? Why or why not? Do you judge people who do these things? Can we still be friends?
16. What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever used as a bookmark?
17. Talk to me about the minutiae of your current WIP. Tell me about the lore, the history, the detail, the things that won’t make it in the text.
18. Choose a passage from your writing. Tell me about the backstory of this moment. How you came up with it, how it changed from start to end. Spicy addition: Questioner provides the passage.
19. Tell me a story about your writing journey. When did you start? Why did you start? Were there bumps along the way? Where are you now and where are you going?
20. If a witch offered you the choice between eternal happiness with your one true love and the ability to finally finish, perfect, and publish your dearest, darlingest, most precious WIP in exactly the way you’ve always imagined it — which would you choose? You can’t have both sorry, life’s a bitch
21. Could you ever quit writing? Do you ever wish you could? Why or why not?
22. How organized are you with your writing? Describe to me your organization method, if it exists. What tools do you use? Notebooks? Binders? Apps? The Cloud?
23. Describe the physical environment in which you write. Be as detailed as possible. Tell me what’s around you as you work. Paint me a picture.
24. How much prep work do you put into your stories? What does that look like for you? Do you enjoy this part or do you just want to get on with it?
25. What is a weird, hyper-specific detail you know about one of your characters that is completely irrelevant to the story?
26. How do you get into your character’s head? How do you get out? Do you ever regret going in there in the first place?

28. Who is the most delightful character you’ve ever written? Why?
29. Where do you draw your inspiration? What do you do when the inspiration well runs dry?

31. Write a short love letter to your readers.
32. What is a line from a poem/novel/fanfic etc that you return to from time and time again? How did you find it? What does it mean to you?

39. What keeps you writing when you feel like giving up?
40. Please share a poem with me, I need it.

💝🎀💥 for the ask game! <3
Why is everyone wanting me to compliment my writing. Nooo. But you took the time to ask so I will try to find another one. Answering from this list here.
What fic got a different response? Oh. That's actually really tough. You know what, I think it was On Your For You Page? It got way more of a reaction than I thought it would. All positive, but I was seriously expecting that one to just blip out. I am glad it didn't. It's very silly and very soft. I am personally a fan.
Another compliment... gremlins... Okay. Hm. I think that I can sometimes hit onto a theme of something I'm working on fairly early and be able to carry that imagery through really well. This is actually more of my ttrpg writing than fic writing, but I've been using both skills in both places.
Least kudos' fic is actually from back in my 00Q days! One of the last ones I managed to write for a collection I was putting together. 30. Things you said on the Highway
I actually really like the way I wrote James' part. And this kind of ties back to that thematic imagery? Sometimes I feel like it's kind of a crutch but I think in this one it was really heartbreaking. He's thinking about the end of Casino Royale where Vesper goes under and then he thinks he is also drowning. It's a short piece and I feel like I'm just blowing smoke up my own ass lmao but honestly that bit right there is really good 😅

/ @horsedadgeralt
Damn. Not even gonna warm up with a... literally anything else. Well fuck me I guess (affectionate). Answering from this list here.
Alright- First a compliment, you terror.
Sometimes, when I am trying to find my rhythm writing again, I will read over some old stuff just to try to kind of remember my narrative voice.
But then there will sometimes be a line or a scene that just. Even though I wrote it, just hits me viscerally. And it's not every time, and it very much isn't every fic but I kind of prefer that because when I do write those lines, for me, they are something I can go back and find and read back over and it reminds me that I am really fucking good at this actually sometimes.
Second- post-writing/sharing aftercare.
Uh, ya know, idk if I have a method for this really? Usually if I do write something is because something manic grabbed my brain in that moment and I had to run with it. If it was something major like I'll Stay with You or You Could be my Unintended which are two fics I am really proud of and that I took a lot of time to really think through, I will sometimes skim through them and find those moments that I can personally point to and be like "and that's why I write".
An example cause I know you're gonna be back in my inbox about it
(Under the cut, a part of I'll Stay with You which features MCD)
It was dawn or maybe dusk, but all Jaskier knew was that it had been a long time since Geralt last thought of him. There were too many scars along his wiry arms where his sleeves were pushed up, his feet dangling into the water of a stream. He sat on the edge of a rock, his head in his hands.
Jaskier went to say something and found that he couldn’t, his mouth opening and closing but no sound came forward.
“A hundred years,” Geralt swallowed. “A hundred years and I’ve forgotten the sound of your voice.” He sounded wounded, his voice cracking with sorrow and age. “I’d give every single one of them back if I could just… remember.” He pressed his palms over his eyes and shook. “The world keeps changing, and you’re still gone and I’m still here.”
Jaskier dropped to his knees beside Geralt, his hands reaching out to touch the man that would not let him go.
It was his hands that caught his attention. They were barely shadows at the ends of his arms. Jaskier looked down in silent panic as he realized he was fading. Geralt was forgetting him. A mixture of relief and agony tore through him. All he wanted to do was scream but all he could do was sit there in silent horror as he watched Geralt fall to pieces.
Rest, witcher. He thought, swallowing down the silent tears he was no longer able to shed. Rest, my love, your path is almost at its end. Do you know all the good you’ve done?
