Fall 2023 Classes
Hey studyblr!
It’s that time of the semester where I register for classes. So, I wanted to share the classes I’ll be taking the first semester of my Junior year!
Intermediate Spanish II - This is the LAST Spanish class I need for my International Relations major. I’m excited to get to it, but upset that it’s the same guy who’s taught me for the last year, especially because he literally only teaches at 9:00 AM. So, it’ll be yet another early semester.
Women & Gender Studies Capstone - This is the LAST elective I need for my Women & Gender Studies minor. I’m super excited to officially be done with it. Even better, it’s taught by the advisor of one of my clubs.
International Law & Organizations - I have been waiting so patiently for this class for two years. Odds are, this is the only time they’ll offer it until I graduate. So, I had to say “no” to another class I really wanted to take at the same time. But, oh well.
Research Methods in Political Science - I am NOT excited for this one. I know how to do research, and don’t need a whole 3 credit class to teach me how. But, it’s a requirement for Political Science and International Relations, so I’ll push through.
History of Food - I’m REALLY excited for this one. One of my History professor’s concentrations is Food History, so he was super excited they let him teach this. Hopefully, we’ll mostly be cooking stuff for class. I’m so excited.
Career Mentoring for the Social Sciences - This one is only two credits, but it is a requirement for my Political Science and International Relations majors. It’s going to be boring and terrible. It’s mostly prep for “the real world” or trying to get your first internship. But I’ve already had an Internship and jobs that relate to my major, so...not exactly necessary.
Honors Capstone - This is the LAST thing I need to do to graduate with Honors (except keep up the GPA requirements). It’s only one credit and I’m taking it with some friends, so I’m excited. I think it’ll be super easy, with minimal effort. So, I’m ready for it!
So, seven classes this semester puts me at 18 credits. After next semester, I’ll have 114.5 credits. Crazy, right? But I need it for all the majors. I’m super excited to start giving myself a break when it comes to the 2023-2024 academic year. I’m almost done with my degrees. I have 11 classes left, the only issue is...they never offer them. So basically, I am stuck here for the last half of my degree. But 3 majors and 3 minors in 4 years isn’t bad at all, especially considering I know people who are taking 6 years for 1 major and 0 minors. I might even pick up an extra minor! Who knows? The world is my oyster.

February 6-7, 2023
Today was a couple of pretty productive days. I didn’t do all the readings I had planned, but I did watch two movies I had to watch and did so much event planning for clubs I’m a part of.
HST-357: Watched Warbride
HST-357: Watched Godzilla
HST-357: Read Ch.2 Bodies of War
GC-253: Journal Entry
GC-253: BHM Extra Credit Paper
PS-341: Current Event Reply 2
I am pretty caught up on everything I need to do. It’s almost time to start picking which classes I want to take next semester, which is both relaxing and frustrating. They never offer History courses I want to take, so I’m hoping I finally get a few good ones.

January 18th-19th, 2023
It’s been an interesting couple of days. I got a ton of approvals for events, sent a ton of emails, and I’m learning how to do Treasurer work! Anyways, I accomplished quite a bit over the last couple of days.
SP-203: Studied Review Vocab
SP-203: Leyenda 1 reading and activity
HST-357: Homecoming reading
HST-357: Postwar reading
GC-253: Hometown video
PS-341: Current Event 1
I think my semester is going to just be a ton of readings and the occasional written assignment. Not too hard, but I do have to spend a lot of time reading and annotating, which isn’t that bad. I just hate annotations.

Did I Achieve my Fall 2022 Educational Goals?
In short, no. Absolutely not. I had five goals going into the Fall 2022 semester.
Make some new friends
Do well!
4.0s in at least 4 classes
Improve my Spanish and ASL
Succeed in my non-academic endeavors (big girl job, clubs, and mentorship/RA roles)
So, let’s recap how I did in all of them.
I made a few new friends actually! More importantly than that, I strengthened some of the healthy, existing friendships I had.
While I did well last semester, I didn’t perform to my standards. A lot of that was on mental health issues, but still.
Ok, so I took 7 classes last semester. Technically, I got a 4.0 in four of them, except that one of my classes changed to Pass/Fail halfway through the semester. So I didn’t get any GPA points towards that, just the credits it was worth.
I definitely improved my Spanish. My SP-102 class was one of the ones I 4.0ed. As for ASL, I didn’t really touch it. I hope to resume it in some way/shape/form this year.
This one is where it really falls apart. I had to quit my big girl job after two weeks because I couldn’t handle it. I did really good in my clubs, but not as good as I had hoped. I did very well in my mentorship role. I even got an award for it! They said I was the Most Inclusive and Attentive mentor. My RA role was a shitshow. I only had three residents, then they decided they were selling my building. After spending a month alone in my original building, I got moved into a new building with an RA who wanted nothing to do with me and refused to work with me. I wasn’t able to hold programs, since I spent two months in limbo and my new co-RA didn’t even try to introduce me to residents or include me in her programs. That, on top of my mental health crisis, made it very hard to do anything.
So, I guess I achieved a few goals? But not on my terms, the way I had originally envisioned I do it. I think this semester will be better. I hope this semester will be better.

Spring Semester Goals: 2023
The semester starts in two days! That means it’s time to post my academic, extracurricular, social, and work goals for the spring semester.
RA Goals: new door tags every month, host four community builders, host four educational events, submit a great return application, and get the building I want for next year
Social Goals: stop hanging out with people who don’t make me feel good, go out more, and make some new friends
Work Goals: mentor a new group of international students, waitress more often than I did last semester
Extracurricular Goals: get Club of the Month for GSA, get some work done towards hosting a GSA conference, hold all the events I plan to, see UNICEF become successful, do better at finishing HPSC work in a timely manner, hold one G&MC event, go to more G&MC meetings
Academic Goals: 4.0 in 5 of my 6 classes, apply for one more internship, stop doing homework at 11:30 on weeknights, start tutoring, and do well at the Model UN Conference I’ll be attending.
So. I have some lofty goals. But I know I can achieve a lot of these. The important thing to remember is to do what I can when I can, that way if I have another mental health crisis like I did last semester, I’ll be covered. So, let’s see how we do!

January 10, 2022
Today was my first day back on campus. Classes don’t start for another week, but RA training starts on Thursday, so I’m getting things sorted and ready to go until then.
Today I accomplished:
Unpack from break
Clean the apartment
Send emails for GSA
Send emails for HSPC
Application to return as an e-mentor
Started working on my bulletin board!
Tomorrow, my goals are a little less interesting and a lot more doing prep for the start of the semester. I have quite a few goals for this semester, so we’ll see how they go!

Fall 2022 Grades
So...this was my worst semester ever. My mental health was terrible, everything was bad, and my grades reflect it.
EC-102 - Principles of Economics II - 1.5: this was a horrible, terrible class. I really thought I was going to fail and every single person who I know in the class DID fail. Our professor was awful and everything sucked.
CAR-198 - Leadership in the Residence Hall - 4.0: This was my mandatory-RA class. It was so easy, I actually got a 100% on it.
HST-297 - Historical Research & Methods - 4.0: I was really nervous about this class. The professor has a reputation for being a really difficult grader, especially on research papers, which is exactly what the class was. But I did it!
HST-331 - Colonial America - 3.5: I hated this class. it was so boring. The work was easy, but the final project was rough, so I ended up with a 3.5
PS-232 - Criminal Law - 3.5: This class was fine, but I’m so frustrated because I was 0.2 off from making a 4.0. It’s so upsetting. But hopefully it’s the last law class I’ll ever do.
PS-298 - Politics of Latin America - 4.0: This was one of my professor’s “specialty” classes and he is a really great guy and super passionate about the subject, but it was so so boring. So easy, but so boring.
SP-102 - Intermediate Spanish II - 4.0: This ended up being review of all the Spanish I learned in High School. Super easy and fun.
Unfortunately, my economics grade tanked my GPA. I ended up with a 3.41 GPA. This brought my cumulative down to 3.72. I’m planning on doing much better next semester, but this semester was awful.
My mental health is back on track, I’m preparing myself now for next semester, and I’m ready to do better.

Almost Thanksgiving Update
This semester has been insane. With my mental health issues, it’s been impossible to perform at my peak and post about it. So, I’ve had maybe...eight posts this semester? No big deal, but my goal for the last few weeks of the semester is to kick myself into gear.
I have a ton of goals for over Thanksgiving break, including finishing papers for many of my classes. But I’ll post about them, after the break.

Spring 2023 Classes!
Hey Studyblr!
I’m back with my course load for the Spring 2023 semester. I will be taking 18 credits in the spring, including:
SP-203: Intermediate Spanish I - this class is my second Spanish class here. I need it for my International Relations major.
GC-253: Malaysia’s Modernity - this is a fun, random class I wanted to take. There’s a chance to go on a trip to Malaysia at the end of the semester. I’d love to have this experience and I can potentially add another minor, so I decided to take this “for fun” class.
HST-357: History of the World Since 1945 - although this history class is for my History and International Relations majors, I am also taking it for selfish reasons. We’re analyzing a lot of primary sources (including the original Godzilla movie).
PS-260: Introduction to Political Thinking - this is a requirement for my Political Science major. I’m not too excited, but I want to make the most of it.
PS-341: Model United Nations - This is an elective for my Political Science major and a requirement for my International Relations major. I’m so excited. My university will be representing Malta at a Model UN conference in the spring! I’m doing this as an Honors class too!
PS-398: Environmental Policy - This class is an elective for my Political Science major and my Legal Studies minor. I was so excited the department decided to offer this because I’ve wanted to take it for so long! I think this is going to be great experience and I’m so excited. I’m doing this as an Honors class too!
Next semester is going to be really good for me. I’m finishing most of my Political Science electives and hitting a lot of requirements I need to make. Hopefully, I’ll start posting more updates as I can!
