a lil warm up doodle before I work on commissions of the latest part from @healthysharkshealthyocean‘s fic series Ghost in the NYC which is inspired by @the-stove-is-on-fire recent Danny Phantom comics that I cannot stop rereading

when i essentually "trace art work" i dont post it, its mostly jus art of my bofy n i and someone my fav blorbos. i show my friends sometimes but that it. other than the poses(and sometimes the clothes), everything else is purely my art style

Why everyone in the art community has something against tracing?

Tracing is an excellent tool for learning, in my opinion. I used to trace pictures of horses all day when I was a kid. It's great for teaching your eye and your hand to recognise and recreate shapes.

Some people call the use of reference images 'tracing' which isn't accurate or really an issue?? Unless you're a purist who thinks using ref images is "lazy". It gets iffy when you use other Artist's work as a reference, but that more often has to do with the percentage of 'inspiration' you take from their work.

The only time it becomes a problem is when people copy part of, or the entirety of another artist's work, and claim it as their own. That's just straight-up theft. And I'm not talking about vaguely copying a pose because it looked cool, I'm talking every detail from the armour to the hair has been copied but the second artist just flipped the image left and recoloured it. This exploits the hard work of the original artist and is generally seen as a dick move.

There's room for discussion regarding homage/tribute and satire, but in general, tracing is just another tool.

Idea for a series of Gray Ghost illustrations.

A timeline of pictures showing Valerie and Danny throughout the years starting in their freshman year of high school. In all of the pictures Valerie is holding/carrying/lifting Danny in some way, even as Danny keeps getting bigger and taller.

Freshman Year: Blurry pic of Valerie running with Danny under her arm like a football, both of them yelling. Possible ghost or explosion in the background. 

Sophomore: Slightly older Danny & Val in the school computer lab, Valerie holding Danny up by his armpits like long cat. Tucker laughing in the BG with the meme on his monitor screen. Danny is unamused. 

Junior: Same scenario as the last scene but Danny hit a growth spurt since then and now his feet are firmly on the floor. He looks incredibly smug. Val looks fond and amused.

Senior Year: Graduation group pic. The entirety of Team Phantom (Danny, Tucker, Sam, Valerie, & Wes) in their grad gowns with Danny reclined on his side in the air while Valerie holds him up over their heads. Danny is still a string bean. Val is absolutely shredded. (Jazz took the photo.)

College Years: Pic of Valerie bench pressing a slightly more muscular Danny in a public gym. Danny is red-faced blushing and bystanders gawk at Val's guns. Val is smiling and making it look effortless.

Wedding photo: Val is wearing a black lace dress with red accents. Danny is in a white suit hoisted over Valerie's shoulder in a fireman's carry with a sign that says 'just married' taped to his butt. 

First Family Photo: Valerie holding Danny bridal style with a little baby on his chest. He's holding the baby's hand to make it look like their kid is waving. Danny is a freaking brick house by this point. Val looks so incredibly proud. 

End panel: Danny and Val with their baby (Danny holding the bebe) in front of their wall of framed pictures (hosting a housewarming party?). A friend/co-worker/guest comments on their photos:

"Danny, it's so sweet how you've supported your Valerie's weight-lifting career since you were kids."

Danny hides his face in Val's shoulder, shaking, and trying not to laugh out loud.

Guest to Valerie: "Is he okay?"

Val: "He's just a little emotional right now, hormones y'know?"

Danny bursts out laughing.

Potential follow up scene: Danny & Val hanging a new picture on the wall. Close crop/zoom in reveals it to be a framed photo of Valerie at a weight lifting competition totally dominating it with Danny cheering her on like a mad man in the audience. Their baby strapped to his chest with little noise cancelling headphones on.
