“Listen to me; I love you tenderly, I think of you every day and on every occasion: when working I think of you. I have gained certain intellectual benefits which you deserve more than I do, and of which you ought to make a longer use. Consider too, that my spirit is often near to yours, and that it wishes you a long life and a fertile inspiration in true joys.”
— Gustave Flaubert (1821-1880), in a letter to George Sand (1804-1876), Nohant, 8 December, 1872
in: “ The George Sand-Gustave Flaubert Letters”, translated from the French by A.L. McKenzie (1921)

I feel you in my stomach.
I am alone
Here to dry these tears
Drip
Dripping
Down my chin

even though you’re a world away, in love with someone else. i will be here, waiting. and maybe that’s foolish. maybe i’m wasting my time. but to me, any time spent loving you, even if it’s unrequited, could never be a waste.

i keep cold when i talk about it. a few months is hardly enough time to keep you under my tongue, let alone let you swallow me whole. but i spent those nights waiting for you on street corners. laughing while you gave your ice cream order. learning to kiss your hard shoulder in the morning.
i try and take back the pieces. that I told you about my dad. the early mornings, and letting you meet my friends and make them laugh. it’s just the cut and dry consequence. the crack in the unspoken promises.
but. but. even with all the cold i try to keep, god knows you had a smile that could’ve kept me.

Your delicate vulnerability and intimacy are a heavenly gift to experience, not a right of others. Let your boundaries be known and keep around those who honor them.

Love slides down your cheeks
gentle and graceful
a dew caressing the tip
of a newly bloomed Tulip
It rolls itself down
and then rests in your lips
touches the curve of your smile
a match igniting the fire
raging inside
my playful mind
