Actually I stayed bitter for years (still am) about them doing this because of how much hope they gave us as audience with making Arthur open his eyes once more. I was one of the unfortunate ones who watched with no spoilers whatsoever, and so until the last fucking minute I actually thought it will have a “happy” ending, a golden age ending, because surely after everything Merlin did for Arthur, they wouldn't just subject him to the misery of having failed? They wouldn't make Arthur die in his arms?

But no. They did that, and even worse; making him wait for all eternity. As if he didn't already dedicate his entire life and soul to Arthur. As if he didn't deserve a good ending. As if Arthur didn't deserve a good ending.

And yet, this show still consumes my own life and soul

when you’re going on about your day just fine, only to randomly remember that merlin quietly whispered to arthur “stay with me” after he had raised his voice to call his name and the fact that arthur opened his eyes, even briefly (he had heard him. he was ready to die and he did his best to stay awake for HIM) gave merlin enough hope to still try and save him. he’s a good physician and he knows when someone’s dying, yet, until the end, he refused to acknowledge that arthur was already dead, because, even the smallest thing from him, and it was what he needed to be with his king, his best friend, his beloved. that is what you do when you’re losing/you lose someone you love. you don’t give up. and arthur didn’t give up either, when he opened his eyes, after merlin had loudly called his name. one cannot live without the other and they both knew it. so then you realise that your life is not fine and you mourn over the devastating and unjust end of this bloody tv show.

Casually fucking breaking from Merlin stuttering here

Because y’all, no matter how uncoordinated and really clumsy we see of him sometimes, Merlin never wavers in his speech; never doubts what he wants to say and says it no matter the consequences.

But here? Oh God. He can't even fucking begin to process the fact that he ushered Uther to death. He can't help but break over how after everything he did to keep Arthur's heart from breaking, he was made the instrument of tearing Arthur apart.

And he can't help but try to vocalise any of his agony out loud, but stutters trying to say I should have healed him. I should have saved him. I should have been the one to show you the goodness of magic. I should have —

“I wish that there was something more that I could have done.”

Hi nonnie! Orientalism is actually quite common these days as a module if you're studying in majors like: Literatures in English, Arab and Islamic Studies, Comparative Literature, Cultural Studies, Gender and Queer Studies, Race Studies, Area Studies, and definitely History. Some universities even have Orientalism as a separate major on its own, which is pretty freaking dope if you ask me.

I tried looking up online courses for you, but honestly since that is not how I studied, I don't want to recommend a course and it turns out shitty or eurocentric lol

Hello!!! I was wondering if you knew of a fic where merlin was cursed to receive an injury every time Arthur insults him? I saw someone talking about it on Pinterest but I can't find any links. Thank you in advance, you're awesome!

Goddd I know this one! But for the life of me I can't find it. If anyone reads this, please help out in finding this fic!

While searching through, I found you these. They're different from the idea you're looking for, but similar in essence:

1. whisper to the flame by @missfaber. Merlin takes Arthur's injury to save him. One of the most beautiful magic reveals written, and one of my all-time favourite fics.

2. Take Your Pain Away by @bluegrasssax. Merlin takes the injuries of his soulmate instead of him (before and after knowing it's Arthur). Arthur does too. Set in S1. Veryy well written and has good Nimueh (which I don't ever see!)

3. Lie to me by @guiltyscarlet. Every time Merlin lies to Arthur, the lie is inscribed on Arthur's skin permanently. Sooo unique of an idea and with beautiful art too by @gyrhs!
