Firstly, all my love and gratitude to @phoebe-delia and @toxik-angel for the betas, and to the wonderful wonderful mods for running this fest.

This fic took all of me and then some. Being trans in our current world is fucking hard. As soon as I saw this prompt I knew I was going to write some fluffy trans joy, but it's hard to write joy when you don't feel it.

Poor Harry spent months staring at himself in the mirror before I could write more than the first two paragraphs. And then something snapped and I suddenly had this in front of me. This fic is born from all of my trans joy, all of my trans rage, all of my love for my fellow trans brothers, sisters and siblings.

If you are trans, nonbinary, questioning or anything else. I see you. I love you. This fic is for you. May we all find a Ron and Hermione to love us as we are.

you gotta be able to talk about "sex"

they're uncomfortable topics, YEAH for SURE

because LIFE is uncomfortable. Death and suicide and sex and pain are straight up going to happen. not having words for the way it discomforts you doesn't make it more comfortable, it just makes you less able to reach out about it.

even more vital, you gotta be able to say words like "rape", "abuse", "queer" or "racist". cause we fought fucking hard to name those experiences. to identify "rape" as distinct from "sex" and "racism" as distinct from "acceptable behaviour" and "queer" as distinct from "invert"

like the function of communication is not to minimise immediate discomfort. we gotta be able to talk about stuff that's hard or sucks or causes difficult conversations.

i spent my entire teenaged years fighting for my life. i crawled through the deepest pits of my depression to cling to the promise of a life beyond that pain. i was so convinced that i was going to die young, that i would never see the grace of my age starting with a 2, let alone 3.

so im going to turn 30, and there’s not a damn thing anyone can do to stop me from loving it.
