Theory about Chris and Wesker (RE9) [UPDATED]
Tumblr media
Hey Tumblr, today I brought you two crazy theories. I promise you that my theories will be very interesting and will make you think about something.
Alive Wesker, BOW Chris. Actual until re9 release!
This is an updated theory, I have supplemented and edited it!
Tumblr media
I kept them inside my head for a long time, but coming of RE9 pushes me to release these theories outside. I really love Chriskers, so these two theories are directly related to them. This is not AU, but my assumptions about the canon. I would like to warn you that English is not my native language, so there may be errors in the text, excuse me for that.
Theory about Chris
What could be his immediate future?
Below is a concept of this BOW:
We already know that in Shadows of Rose (DLC for RE8) the year is 2037 and at this point Chris is still alive. So it's safe to say that after the events of RE9, which will take place in 2021, he will still be alive. He will not die, contrary to fan theories.
At the very end of RE8, Chris discovers a BSAA soldier who turns out to be a bioweapon (I'll write BOW in the future). Enraged by this brazenness, Chris goes to their headquarters to sort it all out. This will probably be the main idea behind RE9.
Tumblr media
I can assume that this is not an single specimen, and that all the other BSAA soldiers involved in the "village operation" look identical. That is, they are clones.
Cloning BOW is a common thing in their world, clones of Sergei Vladimir were used to develop a strain of the T-virus back in 1992, and created even earlier, so it's no surprise that someone in 2021 used the cloning method.
I brought up the topic that these BOW soldiers are clones. But whose? Some person with genes suitable for the virus should be taken as a basis. But who could be the donor in this case and have we had any information about this? I have an answer to that question.
These BOW soldiers have a consciousness and "upbringing" close to human, because they use weapons and transportation. And judging by their calm facial expressions, they don't show aggression. They can act coherently as a team, which suggests that these BOW are not a brainless herd of armed Majini (RE5), or J'avo (RE6). Their brains must be very advanced and almost unaffected by mutations.
But now let's remember that there was already a project that aimed to create the perfect soldier with an evolved brain. That was Project Tyrant.
Tumblr media
This is Chris Redfield. At first, the similarities are barely obvious, but take a closer look at the facial features. The shape of the nose, lips, wrinkles around the eyes, a mole under the eye.
And now look at the gait. This pose is identical to the typical walking of any Tyrant.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
BSAA, without his knowledge, used his DNA to create these BOW soldiers.
We can say that this BOW weapon is the most advanced version of the Tyrant, because it is indistinguishable from a human, has high intelligence and is well controlled. And it is also easily disposed of, because after the death of BOW, the soldier did not mutate into a Super Tyrant.
It may not be a Tyrant, but some new project. But the data on the Tyrant clearly formed its basis.
There are legitimate questions - why Chris? Who needs it?
Answer to question 1: Chris is a soldier with a lot of experience and the ability to survive in the most dangerous situations. He is psychologically prepared for anything. If by happy coincidence such a person is genetically suited to be the new version of BOW, then this can be exploited, for it saves "real" human lives in military operations. But that doesn't excuse the BSAA, for they took his DNA without authorization.
Answer to question 2: to guess who needs it, you just need to know Chris's environment. For whom is Chris "one of the best men"? For whom is Chris the only equal opponent? Who does Chris mean so much to that this person would want to subdue him?
I think you've already guessed.
Albert Wesker.
But you ask the logical question, "how could Wesker pull this off if he died in 2009?"
The answer is, he didn't. The theory of how he survived will be below, but for now I'll tell you his motives.
Tumblr media
After the defeat, which came hard due to his injuries and overdose of the virus, Wesker decided to poison Chris's life. His own life was wiped out in that volcano, the results of all his research and experiments gone to waste. All of Wesker's plans are ruined by this man, as many times before, he is humiliated and revenge boils in him.
Somehow he has infiltrated the heart of BSAA, of those Chris trusted. Into Chris's "home." And he poisoned that home with a biological weapon. There may well have been some other reason for this, perhaps he had a new plan and "poisoning Chris's life" was just a nice addition to that plan, but not the main goal.
But why is Mold "useless" to him, you ask? Weskers in "Project W" were raised according to Spencer's ideals, so in many ways they think like him, because the upbringing was sufficiently obsessive. And here's what Spencer himself thought of Mold:
Here is a variant of the main goal:
New Mold was created by The Connections, an organization that partnered with H.C.F. back in 2000. H.C.F. is a unit that Wesker once led. It's unknown if he was involved in the creation of the Mold, but it's safe to assume he was aware of it. This could be the reason BOW were sent BSAA soldiers into the village in RE8 to destroy everything The Connections had a hand in. Perhaps Wesker just wanted to get rid of anything "useless" that might get in his way in the future. A distant future. Because it's been 12 years since his "death" and he's 61 years old himself.
Tumblr media
Mold is useless to Spencer, so is useless to any of the Weskers who share his thinking.
There's no denying the possibility that Wesker may have been thinking about turning Chris into something for a long time, since he was highly successful as a soldier. He likes to "rate" Chris during their encounters. What if he was evaluating Chris to weigh the pros and cons if he suddenly decided to create something based on him? A BOW based on him? It's also possible that Wesker always spared Chris because he thought he would use him in the future. Other reasons are just excuses.
I can only decipher these Wesker facial expressions as "hmm, not bad"
Tumblr media
I assume that in RE9 Chris will meet Wesker. But not the way he remembers him.
I forgot to mention that behind the scenes, Wesker was working on experimental weapons. He had studied various tactics to fight against the BOW and felt that weapons of mass destruction were not always effective, so he favored compact pieces that could be used by experienced fighters. It's unclear why Wesker even considered such a thing if he didn't intend to sell these developments. It's also unclear why he was working on it if his ultimate goal was a "perfect world" with no place for guns and wars. Did he come up with it… just because he could? In any case, after his death, these designs were confiscated by the reconstituted Umbrella Co. (Blue Umbrella) and after being reconstituted, distributed these weapons to various places like the BSAA.
Given the Chris cloning moment, doesn't it seem suspicious that the suddenly revived Umbrella is in the process of recreating Wesker's designs? I get that this weapon is very useful, but then why did they name it after Wesker if he's a "disgrace" to society and a criminal? He, in theory, deserves no mention, even on his designs. But someone in management has respect for him, so allowed the name to remain.
It's also odd that BSAA have taken up cloning, it's more likely the new Umbrella is the originator of this idea, or their executive (leader) who respects Wesker and his designs. Perhaps cloning Chris is one of his designs too?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I mean… literally - it's a clone of Chris with a Wesker gun. This is a very strange coincidence.

Theory about Wesker 1. Why isn't he dead?
Let's start simple, RE5 had enough budget to show the ignition effects, we could see them on the enemies set on fire. And RE5 also had enough budget to show colorfully directed cutscenes.
However, with the franchise's most famous character, we saw neither of these at the moment of his death. Wesker was waist-deep in lava, but not burning, and was also defeated without any cutscenes. A strange attitude with such popularity?
Character deaths aren't shown only when they want them back. If a character dies permanently, their death is always detailed and elaborate.
His death was not shown, a basic but not the main fact that makes me sure he survived.
All we can see are the missiles that fly past his head, failing to hit their target, they fall into the lava behind him. If you slow down the video, it's noticeable that for some reason the model of Wesker's head just disappears and the missiles fly right through. This is not done to show that he lost his head, because otherwise the missiles would have exploded in the area around his face. However, the missiles flew behind him. It's a trivial budget saving to not draw the moment of impact. But the question is, why save money in such an important scene for lore?
Capcom could have done this to avoid expending the effort and expense for a colorful scene that ends up being just a trickery for us, so that there would be a realistic opportunity to re-engage Wesker as an main character in the future.
Tumblr media
And now pay attention to how Alex Wesker's death was shown:
Tumblr media
Her death is final, that's why it's so detailed. Her current consciousness is now in another new body (Natalia), so it's not a pity to get rid of the old one.
Now let's talk about burning. The reason Wesker doesn't have a fire effect in Volcano could mean that his clothes are fireproof. Which, by the way, could be true, because on his concept art it says the material should be able to withstand shrapnel and other little shards. Its appearance and properties are reminiscent of modern carbon fiber, which can withstand about 300-370°C in air, while the temperature of lava in a volcano is from 1000°C to 1200°C. This means that his clothes could not ignite, because carbon fiber only oxidizes from high heat. This material could also be Kevlar, which has a temperature limit of 480°C, at which point it begins to decompose.
However, not only his clothes could have partially saved him from the high temperature, Wesker himself is resistant to it, which cannot be said about the Uroboros, for whom fire is a weak point. Therefore, it is logical to assume that the virus vaporized from his body from the high ambient temperature.
But let's get to the point, the fact that Wesker was flooded with lava after the explosion of missiles does not mean that he died, because it is worth paying attention to the fact that he was already set on fire. It certainly doesn't compare to lava, but it does give us some indication that he has fire resistance.
Judging by this point, Wesker can be set on fire, but those burns don't harm him. He also doesn't care about the fire and explosions around him.
Tumblr media
He also just needs to shake the fire off himself, which doesn't do any damage.
Tumblr media
There is a hint that he survived. I think few people have heard about Umbrella Corps. This failed shooter, seemingly having nothing important for the Resident Evil universe, gave us quite important information. Now I will tell you about it in detail. But keep in mind that this game is canon. The protagonist here is a certain 3A-7.
The actions of this game take place first in 2012-2013 (single-player mode), and then in 2016 (multiplayer mode). That is, AFTER the events of RE6.
In 2012-2013, according to the plot, information appears about a certain "man from the high ranks in the organization", who arrived to observe the experiment. In the course of the plot, notes about this person are supplemented with information that "this mysterious boss" was present during the events of RE4 and survived them. And as we know, only two men survived RE4 – Leon and Wesker.
After that, one of the acting characters becomes very interested in "this mysterious man", because "this mysterious man" seems trying to make a show of his own strength. This person finds it suspicious and wants to find DNA data about this "mysterious boss". He even wonders, "Who is this guy? Why is everyone afraid of him?".
I think after that it becomes obvious about "what a terrifying and mysterious person" we are talking about. About Wesker.
While playing in multiplayer mode, there is a chance to catch Wesker's phrase at the end of the match. They are different and there are quite a lot of them.
Here is an example:  www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pe7LEaA7em8
At the end of the game, it says that there are "plans" for the main character of this game. By the way, the main character is voiced by D. C. Douglas, same with Wesker. Wesker watched the experiment on his clone? Sounds interesting, unless, of course, he is a clone himself.
Tumblr media
So now it's time for my theories on how Umbrella Corps can be explained:
3A-7 is a clone of Wesker, who trivially doesn't know about it and is an ordinary person with a meager set of memories. But he has retained the skills of the original, making him a high survivor. And the powerful man who kept 3A-7's DNA secret is the original Wesker. He placed his clone in this experiment to quickly test it in real danger, and after success he took it back to realize plans unknown to us. In favor of this theory is the fact that in multiplayer, Douglas' tone is a copy of Wesker's, even though he voiced 3A-7 differently. Capcom wouldn't have hired Douglas to voice two characters at once if their voices weren't potentially important to the lore. The fact that no one recognized Wesker could suggest that his appearance was badly damaged after the volcano, or he changed a lot with the onset of old age, but 3A-7 is probably a copy of his youthful appearance, so he's hiding it.
3A-7 is a clone of Wesker, but after 3A-7 was taken away at the end of his story, he rose through the ranks of the organization and it is his lines that we hear in the multiplayer, because they are said several years after the events of the game. So these are not the phrases of the original Wesker, but of the changed 3A-7 from the future. The original Wesker is presumably dead, but in that case I can't speculate who the influential person who was interested in 3A-7 might be, if not him. Nikolai Zinoviev, who survived RE3? The real Hunk? It could be anyone with cold-blooded cruelty and strange goals. Also, the question remains, who created 3A-7? If it was Wesker himself, he would have used it for his plans long ago, and if it was an abandoned project, it would have been scrapped. It was done by someone outside who needs Wesker's skills badly, just like Chris' skills, which is the reason the RE8 BSAA created a BOW based on him. Ah, I wish someone would get Chris and Wesker clones to work as a team…
So, let's keep going.
One more important thing - if Wesker had died, he would have been seriously mutated. Think of all the characters who have ever had a virus injected into their body. Upon death or when seriously injured, those characters mutated uncontrollably. The same thing happened to Alex Wesker and to Carla Radames. If Wesker died in a volcano, some creature would crawled out of there. Remember when Nemesis was dissolved in acid and then turned into a huge mess. Lava might be as good a vehicle for mutations as acid is for Nemesis. If Wesker didn't mutate, that's another confirmation that he's not dead.
There is a theory that Wesker didn't become a huge monster due to his body adapting to any virus. But I can argue… I believe that after the injection his condition was unstable + a huge amount of Uroboros in his body. All of this should have set the stage for mutation, but the mutation never happened.

Theory about Wesker 2
Now it's time for real madness. In RE5 in vulcano, we killed a Wesker clone. In general, throughout the game in RE5, we fought with his clone. We could meet the real Wesker only in the DLC "Lost in Nightmares". And now I will explain why.
The events of "Lost in Nightmares" take place in 2006, 2 years before the events of RE5. In this DLC, we have the opportunity to fight Wesker, who poses a great threat. One of his blows is able to throw the player into the wall and stun, and he also has several different ways to kill the player. He's constantly trying to kill us. Instead of walking, he moves exclusively with the help of "blink". This is the most ordinary Wesker, as dangerous and unpredictable as ever.
Tumblr media
Then we meet Wesker in 2009 during the RE5 events. This famous scene, which gave us the quote "seven minutes", must be the most harmless confrontation with him. A child's fight. Here Wesker, to put it mildly, lost his strength. He prefers to follow us instead of "blink". He trying to "show off" in front of Chris and Sheva. It is very easy to deceive him, and his blows do not cause much damage. Instead of throwing the player into the wall and stunning him, Wesker's blow pushes him away only a few meters. At the same time, here he does not have an attack that can kill the player. Is he playing with us? Alright.
Tumblr media
Finally we meet Wesker in our last fight with him (before the volcano). He shouldn't be playing with us here, he's serious. But he's no different from Wesker from the last fight... he just doesn't have any "showing off" animations. But he is still weak and does not carry danger. He had an attack that Wesker had from "Lost in Nightmares", capable of piercing and thereby killing a player with a full health indicator. But otherwise he is not dangerous. I don't feel threatened by this Wesker, even though this is the LAST fight with him! This is his LAST chance to shine in front of Chris! But instead of being as cool as in "Lost in Nightmares", he's just a weak. Walking simulator.
Tumblr media
How much Wesker from 2006 differs from himself from 2009 makes you think. Let's think deeper.
When Wesker kills Spencer, he mimics the old man. It may seem that he really wanted to become a God, but if you don't think about RE5, it really can be mistaken for an ordinary mimicry. Wesker wanted to humiliate him at any cost, because the most important and unpleasant secret of his life had just been revealed to him – he was fabricated. This Wesker is real and he falls off a cliff with Jill and saves her.
Tumblr media
During the experiments on Jill, he starts working on some related project and realizes that it will take a very long time. Therefore, he creates his own clone (or maybe even several) to replace himself. And he also "hands" his clone a wild Jill with P30 in the blood, after all, the Wesker clone is clearly weaker than the original and he needs "support". Of course, the Wesker clone does not know that he is a clone, and continues to develop the idea of "becoming a God." He's a defective clone, and that's why he's so paranoid about this idea. In the end, this "clone" loses his mind and becomes fixated on the idea of "becoming a God" and everything that he had from the real Wesker in character simply evaporates. He becomes a laughing stock, macaroni monster.
And eventually Chris and Sheva kill him, ridding the world of a useless Wesker clone while the real one is alive and just hiding somewhere.
Think for yourself which theory about Wesker seems more plausible to you, anything can happen in this fandom. I really want to know WHO made BOW Chris and WHY.
Thanks for reading this madness, it will become irrelevant after the release of RE9 and RE5R, but I'm still proud of the information I've gathered. What if some of this guessed the canon? We'll find out in the future.

Chapter Ten: a monster or a hero?
Max Verstappen x Charles Leclerc x Lando Norris X reader
Chapter summary: things come to a climatic peak at Abu Dhabi
Warnings: GORE, depictions of abuse, minor character death, description of injuries and blood, panic attacks, annoying first responders, gun and knife violence
Notes: wow I enjoyed this chapter. It was so much fun to write. I think going from action to intimate with the transition actually worked better then I thought it would. Not something I can say about my other work 😒😂

Tumblr media
She’s aware of the drops of blood running down her fingers onto the tarmac of the track. The lighta of Abu Dhabi illuminates her skin as she stands with shaky knees. She can smell the rage falling of the man in waves. His movements were clumsier in his anger.
He’d made a mistake in thinking he could touch them.
He’d been wrong to assume she would give in so easily.
Now, with a grin on her face and crimson cover face, she proves he created the killer he always claimed her to be.
~
Aside from Jos and his odd interactions with her, paddock like was peaceful.
She’d gone back to analyzing data and tinkering with the cars. Using the rest of the season to simply heal. She was here because she wanted to be. She was here supporting her loves. She was here because this is her passion.
Redbull had been on fire since she got back to working with data and strategy. She loves driving, but this felt more like her. She’d made peace that her body would never be the same. Christian respects her choice and appreciates her for everything she’s done. Hence why she will always have a place in the Redbull garage, according to him.
Nights with her boys have been calm (for the most part). They are on a high after their tedious streak of lows. They’d spoiled her relentlessly after they almost lost her.
Max has finally managed to learn how to get his feelings across. It took him almost losing all of his partners to figure it out. He has Seb to thank for that.
She walked in in the German gently explaining to Max that he needs to tell them how he feels because bottling it up isn’t healthy and despite one of his partners being superhuman, she isn’t a mind reader.
Boy did he sob. They all did really. They pulled together as a unit after that. Not just being there for each other, but a team that works together to overcome the challenges and difficulties that life throws at them.
They are together. They are a family. They are bonded together by something deeper then love.
~
She’d found a way to help her confidence in being independent. How you ask? Getting one step closer to being a superhero.
Her martial arts had been coming along amazingly. Her trainer was impressed with how quick she progressed. It’s definitely helps that her visions had gotten better and she could see the possible outcome of a fight before it even happened. Sometimes while she was sparring, she’d be able to control her visions enough to just get a glimpse of her opponents next move.
She’d practiced with a few firearms and knew how to pull them apart and put them together with the wave of a finger. She could help guide bullets to their intended destinations with hardly any aim.
It’s safe to say she feels like she could take on the world. She just hopes she doesn’t have to.
It’s a funny thing to her, that even though she could kick someone’s ass into next year, her three partners still baby her.
Lando has found that his favorite place is having her in his arms. He claims if he lets go she might disappear.
Charles is always talking to her. Her tells her every reason why he loves her daily because he almost didn’t get a chance to tell her at all.
Max is vulnerable with her. The work of racing paints him to be cold-hearted and a villain, his father not helping much in that regard. Now he shows her every emotion he kept hidden away. He cries and laughs and lets the three of you see a side of him the cameras don't.
Everything was falling into place. The peace and happiness she wanted so bad was finally within reach.
But is seems nothing ever goes to plan.
~
The energy she worked so hard to keep in control was taking over for her. The locked box she didn't want to open had now exploded. A urge of something she'd never experienced before flying out.
It didn't help he was holding Lando by the throat. The Brit had been through enough already. His eyes are pleading with anyone. If he could just free himself from whatever was holding him there then maybe he could help her.
But she didn't need help.
Two sets of hands on his shoulders became one. The man on his left projecting something at his lover.
The glint of metal from the knife left his hands and landed itself in her shoulder. He could hear her skin ripping open. The blood starting to pool around the new wound.
She'd already killed three of them. The ones who had initially grabbed the three boys.
Their throats had all been sliced open on the track.
These men had been shouting the names they know her by. Killer. Betrayer. Monster.
Don't they know they made her this way?
The knife that had found its way into her skin is pulled out with a vile squelch. She looks down and smiles. The pain only encouraging her to keep going.
The laugh that falls from her mouth is terrifying.
She throws the knife back at its original owner. Her hand still outstretched and guiding the thin weapon. It sticks in a place he won't recover from. His body crumbles to the ground. Blood leaking from the gaping hold in his chest.
Originally, Lando thought he might die here. These stupid people holding him captive on the empty track had talked about ways they wanted to end him.
He was scared and shaking for fifteen minutes before she came to his rescue. He was still shaking as the other man pinning him in his place took off running.
She just watched him go. If he wasn't going to fight her and run away like a coward instead, then it's a waste of her energy to go after him.
She was on her knees in front of Lando in an instant. Her eyes rake over his body to look for any signs of injury. Satisfied, she unties all the ropes that had made his escape impossible.
His turn now to assess her. Lando's hand flying up to put pressure on the slit on her shoulder.
"What the hell is going on?" The waiver in his voice is not even trying to hide itself.
"My father has decided to use a different means to get to me.”
He's shocked at how steady her voice is. He can see the murky fear in her eyes, but also something he can't pinpoint.
"Are you alright?"
"Shaken up, obviously, but alive."
Her tears of relief are mixed with the blood on her cheeks.
Neither knew how this was going to end, but they couldn't spend much more time thinking about it.
"Do you know where he's keeping Charles and Max?"
He nods slowly, impressed at her composire. Then he's taking her hand and leading her onwards.
~
Jos was dejected at the sight of the four of them celebrating together. He hated that his son didn't listen to him or want anything to do with him, for that matter.
He knew what he was doing was wrong. But he'd made a deal.
He gets his son back, and the maniacal genius gets his daughter back. It's a win-win aside from the British boy and Anoying Monegasque having to lose out on life. But it was a risk he was willing to take.
The man he’d been working with found him. Knew him even. It was creepy, but he was willing to work with it. The mad man wanted his daughter back for something he couldn’t explain and Jos wanted his son back.
If only Jos had known Max would fight tooth and nail for her- for them.
~
Charles had a flight and fight response. First, he tried flight. He tried to run to the safety of Max but was foiled instantly. He wanted to check on Lando, but they had dragged the Brit away so long ago.
Now he's alone and struggling. They've been trying to pin him down, but he's been masterfully landing kicks on any place he could to their bodies.
He wasn't going down without a fight.
It was when they started talking about her that his body went lax. The things they said just morally sounded terrible.
"I hope this is worth it."
"Pretty sure is she can bring back the dead.”
"To bad she can’t have her own kids. This would be easier for all of us if she could.” Charles had no clue what they were talking about. None of it was making sense. He did understand that the intent was to bring her back to wherever the devil is living.
Oh, how he wanted to scream. How he wanted to yell at her to stay away, that they would be fine. But it was too late.
He could see her silhouette walking towards him. She looked calm. Her presence helping his mind to think rationally.
Though it was no longer rational as every person around him started clawing at their throats. Coughing, rasping, and pleading for whatever had them to stop.
Charles knew it wouldn't.
She stood there barely moving her hands. He could see the lights reflecting of her sweat. Then Lando was behind him, pulling out of the restraints. Reassuring him that everything was going to be okay now.
He couldn't help but relax into the brits hold.
He didn't know if they died as they fell. And frankly, he didn't care in this moment.
She crouched down to his level, cupping his face with her hands. He’s glad to see them both okay but the word takes hold as he notices the holes littering her body.
“Are you okay Did they hurt you?” They both ask him. Though one is more frantic than the other. He nods his head, really flooding his body at the sight of the two.
~
Abu Dhabi was an interesting race this year. Max had already won the world drivers championship. Regardless, the race was still good and fun and he put himself being able to relax even while he was driving.
The group had gone out to celebrate. He had won. Redbull had won. Obviously, there was going to be a party.
The quartet, however, did not plan on staying long. It had been a long year for all of them, filled with many highs and lows. They all wanted to celebrate with each other in peace.
They had escaped a moment and decided to walk along the track just the four of them. The stars were out and the moon is bright. The lights from the track are still turned on. It felt peaceful, like nothing could take this moment away from them.
Then it was gone.
In the blink of an eye, Max was being dragged away from his lovers. Unknown hands and foreign voice is coming in every direction. He screamed, and he thrashed in an attempt to escape. But the hold on him was too much those. The people holding him there came prepared. So much for being a high performance athlete.
It felt like hours, even though it was probably just minutes. He hadn’t necessarily given up on fighting, but it felt pointless, and he was running out of energy. He needed to conserve what he had left to come up with a plan.
Then his father came out of the haze. He lectured him about why he was doing this for his own good.
Oh, how Max was seething. His father had once again managed to get in the middle of his personal life. Claiming of what he was doing was for his benefit.
Max yelled in anger. He didn’t know all what he was saying just thought it felt good to get it out of his system.
Then a new voice. One he’d never heard before.
“Relax, you can have him to yourself soon enough.” The voice said.
His father was mumbling in Dutch as he walked away obediently. It was shocking for Max to see. Jos didn’t normally walk away from a fight.
They kept him on his knees but they had barely touched him. If he had to guess, Max would say his father struck a deal. The thought makes him want to throw up.
Everything in him wants to fight. He wants to scream out to see if his partners respond.
But he didn’t need to.
It’s blurry. He didn’t realize he was crying. The flash of his lovers comforting eyes the only thing pulling him back from his increasing panic.
Two of them. Where’s the third?
He can hear the sound of crushing bones and shrill screams.
The three of the, are huddled together. Lando has his buried in Max’s chest and Charles’ arms are wrapped tightly around his midsection.
Then the sickening calm of silence.
He can hear her heavy pants. He can smell the carnage around him.
Slowly he gets up and approaches the female like a wild animal.
She looks psychotic in a way. Her skin is slick with sweat. Her body is stitching itself together but her wounds have drenched her clothes in a dark red.
Blood seems to cover most of her.
She looks exhausted. Her visible skin has lost its color. She looks like she’s on edge, scanning her surroundings for more threats.
Max doesn’t touch her when he gets close. He can see the tears pulling in her eyes, taking in what she’s done.
She sinks to her knees. The weight of it all pulls her to the ground. “Are you hurt?”
Max looks at her with love. She’d always made sure everyone else came first. She’s bleeding out before his eyes and yet she’s asking if he’s okay.
He sets himself in front of her.
“Why aren’t you scared? I’m everything he said I am.” Her voice breaks. She’d killed them but Max knew it wasn’t out of any good feelings. She wasn’t satisfied with herself. She had done it to protect them.
Lando and Charles are next to him now. Charles is the first to reach for her hand. She flinched away at first but then relaxes at the touch, letting the warmth of his skin remind her that everyone is alive.
“We could never be scared of you, mon amour. You were protecting us.”
“But I killed them.” She sobs. Her mouth falling open in a silent scream. Her arms close around herself as she pushes herself as close to the ground as possible.
Max knows they need to get out of there. People are going to be here soon and they’ll ask to many questions.
But they aren’t at fault, so why is he scared?
Screw it, he’s calling Seb.
The four of them pile into each other. The female wails have not slowed and their doing her best to get her to breath. Her blood pools onto the tarmac even though her wounds are closing slowly before their eyes.
Max manages to get his cell to work. The screen shattered and he can barely see what’s on it because of the static, but it works.
He fails Sebs number. He feels guilt about spoiling his retirement party but he doesn’t know what else to do.
“Hello? Max?”
“Help.”
~
She wasn’t sure what was happening. There are sirens and police surrounding the area now. People are asking her questions that she can’t respond too. Her skin is on fire and she can’t feel her limbs. She just wants to go home.
Seb hasn’t left her. She’s clutching his hand like a child. The fear of being left alone with strangers and her thought to much to handle right now.
The other three are answering questions. Mostly about how she looks like she went to hell and back and they have some scraped knees and bruises.
“Y/N is trained in martial arts and self-defence.” Explains the Dutch for the thousandth time. “They came after us. Majority of them ran away. And do you blame her for fighting? Shes been kidnapped before for fucks sake!”
Max stomps away from the first responders and back to her. He sits down next to her in the ambulance and huffs. “They aren’t listening.”
“Patience. They are trying to get all the information.” Seb continues wiping blood off her exposed body. Her clothes are decimated and her hair is a crusty tangled mess.
“I know. It’s just frustrating. I want the to catch the people who organized this.”
“Your dad one of them?”
Max turns his head away in shame. “I highly doubt he’ll come back to any races after he exposed himself like this.”
“One can hope.” Seb sighs and Max nods his head in agreement. Seb runs to rag over the wound in her shoulder, the sting causing her to let out a hiss of pain through her teeth. “Sorry, Love.”
The adrenaline that had once been fueling her had dwindled away into nothing now. Everything hurts and she’s tired, but Seb said she needs to stay awake for now.
Lando peeks his head into the vehicle. “They want to ask you questions, love. If you aren’t up to it I’ll let them know.” Lando patiently awaits her response. Wordless, she stumbles out of the bed and into Lando’s arms. He helps her out of the ambulance, and they take slow steps back onto the tarmac. Her breathing gets more uneven with each step.
Lando keeps his arm around her waist to help her to her destination. "You don't have to do this yes, we can wait until you're stronger." She smiles at him with appreciation, but she knows it's better to do it now.
The officer meets her halfway, and Charles jogs to catch up with them.
"Did you recognize any of the attackers?"
"No."
"Did you kill the seven that were on the track when we arrived."
"Yes."
"Why is that?"
"They wanted to kill us."
"How do you know?"
"They said so. They held knives to throats and huns to heads."
Charles had never heard her sound so robotic. Like every answer had been preprogrammed into her.
"We're they the ones who hurt you?"
"Yes."
"What happened with Max, Charles, and Lando?"
Her breath hitches, and the tears start again. Lando increases the pressure of his hold as her knees go to buckle.
"They almost died. They got them by surprise and tried to kill them to get to me." She can't stop the cries that sake her body again.
Charles is at her other side. The two are trying to keep her upright. Her dry heaving not helping them.
They decided they heard enough. So they dragged the group down to the police station to test them for every possible mind altering substance on the planet.
She cried every time they touched her. The medical equipment is not helping her state if mind.
The four males sit and wait for her. They weren't allowed to go with. She fought, tooth and nail, because she didn't want to leave them. They begged to let at least one of them go with her, but we're ultimately denied.
The look of panic on her face when she was being hauled away broke all of them.
An hour later, an officer came to give them an update. "We're holding her overnight."
"Absolutely not." States sebastian in protest. "The girl is traumatized. Her family almost died tonight, and she's been dealing with strangers keeping her away from them. You might want to rethink."
The man in front of them gives seb an exasperated look. "She killed seven people. We have no witnesses that can give an outsiders perspective. And we're waiting on security footage. Her blood work is anything but normal, and you seem dead set on leaving." The man explains. "I will have someone call you with an update tomorrow."
The boys left. Sullen. Tired. Broken.
They slept on sebastians' floor that night. Hanna watched as they passed out as soon as they got in the door. Seb just hugged her. His distress clear to her.
She deserves better. She was a child who had her innocence stolen.
~
The holding cell is cold and metallic. The air smells musty. The colors contrast her own appearance.
They didn't even give her new clothes or a hairbrush.
After hours of waiting, someone came in with a laptop. The image of her on the track is already on the screen.
The play button is pressed.
It's what happened but from an outsiders perspective.
She panics. Her whole body trying to not relive these moments.
They come over the gate with knives and guns drawn. Three of them immediately going for her.
You can't see it, but she’s using her powers. It looks like a mere glitch on the screen.
She disarms the first and takes a knife to the hip from the second. A knife she promptly pulls out of her and slams into his throat.
The first bullets came from the one behind. The one in front keeping her sandwiched innetween them.
They talked at this point, but the video doesn't have sound.
The first throws her to the ground, her head snapping from impact on the tarmac.
She reachches for the knife in the second man's throat. The now slick metal makes a gorey sound as it slides out of his next. She launches at the third before he can get another shot of. His finger never makes it to the trigger.
The third is a lot stronger than her. She coaxed her visions into guiding her, showing her how to get him on the ground. Her leg hooks into the back of his knee to pull him to the earth.
She waits now. Holding up her hands in surrender. Pleading with him to stop.
He dosents. His knife is now aimed at her. Me manages to lodge it into her stomach. Again, she pulls it out and slits the last man's throat.
Then she's sprinting.
She had heard the shots of protest from the boys. They were going to use them as leverage. She had to run. She had to heal. So she did both, managing to weave some things back together before she found Lando. Using her visions to guide her.
She was going to overdue it but she didn't care.
Lando had been forced to his knees. He had a gun passed to his head. Tears had glistened his cheeks as he mumbled words of forgiveness.
Then another stupid knife found its way into her shoulder. She returned the favor after that.
The man with the gun took off back over the fence. She didn't care, though. Lando was her priority at that moment.
Then she's untying him, making sure he's okay and running off to hopefully find the other two.
The camera angle switch’s again.
Charles is trying to kick away his captives, landing him a punch to his ribs and an elbow to his knees. They put all their weight on him to hold him steady.
Then their clawing at their throats. Her and Lando just standing and watching.
The video pauses. She didn't even realize she had been crying and shaking til she's brought back to the present.
"They have no fingerprints on them. No signs they poisoned themselves. You admitted to killing seven. How did you do it?"
She shrugs. How is she supposed to respond to this? "I guess I assumed I killed them. Me and Lando didn't know what was happening. We just stood there trying to assess the situation."
She feels like she might believe her own lie. There is no way to explain that. Her and Lando both just stare at what's happening.
Then the video turns back on.
Her and Lando are running to Charles, untying him, checking for injuries, then running off to find Max.
The last stint is something she wants to forget.
The group around Max and Jos had been massive. But they saw her walking towards them and fled the scene. All except one.
They'd fought for a ridiculous amount of time. She'd felt his bones snap underneath her. He'd pummeled her to a pulp. He pulled her hair. Her visions were no help as she was exhausted. They had each other in a headlock. She couldn't breathe. It didn't help he was stronger.
But her powers helped in that are as she used them to snap his neck. The sound of cracking the only think filling her ears for thirty seconds.
Then it shows them all together. It shows her on the ground screaming, crying, throwing up.
Then it's done.
She can't move. She can't breathe. Every moment now fresh in her brain once again.
"Technically speaking, this was all self-defense. They hit you first in every scenario."
She glared at whoever this man was that made her relive this.
But she didn't say anything because his next words were 'free to go.'
It's late and dark. She's still covered in blood. But her phone is broken.
So she walks.
She walks, and she cries.
She wants it all to end. The little girl wanted to be with her family. With sebastian and Hanna and her siblings. She needs to know her boys are okay.
She spaces out, lost in her own head as she arrives at the hotel. At Sebs door. Praying he's awake or at least will wake up.
She knocks. Fully expecting that she will be spending the night outside the door. To her shock, it opens.
Seb pulls her inside where she's tackled in hugs and kisses.
"They let you go?!"
"They had no reason to keep me."
She's aware of how awful she looks. She needs new clothes which she doesn't have here but their hotel room is farther than sebs.
And at 6 in the morning, they are in their own room. Seb, having driven back himself.
The boys are getting things together to help her clean up.
She stares at the wall. Blank and empty. Just how she feels.
Max and Lando are out at the store. They have nothing they need to help take care of her. They were expecting to leave this morning, but the benefit of flying private is that Max can change when they leave.
Charles is running a bath for her. She's a mess of litteral blood, sweat, and tears.
He croutches down next to her and pulls one of her hands into his own. "What do you say we get cleaned up, hm?"
She lets him help her to her feel. The warmth of the steam from the bath hitting her skin makes her feel something close to alive again.
Charles helps her out of her trashed clothing and then holds her hand while she gets in. "Do you want a moment to yourself, Chéri?"
She almost panics for a second. "Don't leave me- please."
"Do you want me on their with you or next to you?"
She likes when he asks with easy words. "With."
Then Charles is stripping of his own clothes and climbing in behind her.
He takes his time rinsing her skin. Careful not to mess with her new stitches that the paramedics gave her.
He spent time untangling her hair with nimble fingers and washing out every last bit of grime.
She relaxed into his hold. The safety of his arms reminding that he's alive, so is Max and Lando.
They're still in the bath when the other two come back. Lando and Max take the opportunity to get the food ready and set out their clothes for her to wear when she comes back.
“I know where both enjoying this, but I think if we stay in any longer we may become one with the water.” Charles laughs.
He gets out first and wraps a towel around his waist. He lays a spare on the floor so they don’t slide around anthem helps her to the ledge. He takes a towel and dries her off with it, taking extra care of her wounds and double checking that her stitches look okay still. He wraps her towel around her and slips his clothes back on. He wasn’t going to put her trashed clothing back on her.
Charles guides her out of the bathroom into the dimly lit suite. Max and Lando help her into their clothes; Max’s shirt and Lando’s sweats. Then they crawl into bed together.
Her cries shatter their hearts. The broken sobs of overwhelming feelings finally getting to her. “I don’t deserve this after what I did.”
“What you did was save us geliefde. We could ask for anything more then that.”
“But I killed people. He was right. I’m a fucking killer. A monster.”
“You killed them because you had too. It sucks and I can’t say I understand how your feeling, but if you didn’t do it then we would be dead. So no matter where your thoughts go, the three of us are grateful for what you did out there.”
“We love you Chére. Our superhero.”

today in puzz: i thought really hard about power-scaling and categorizing the different capabilities of psychonauts-verse psychic powers and made charts about it. please click the readmore to see a lot of rambling thoughts and also the charts
first of all i genuinely don't know why you decided to click through but i'm impressed. second of all let's start with the blank template chart i made (feel free to use for your own blorbos and such. i set it free) and touch on the explanations
Tumblr media
[Image ID: A chart with seven sections, each with a bolded handwritten section title, a handwritten explanation of the section below, and five outlined star shapes to the right. The stars are labeled, from left to right, in handwritten text: "low", "below avg." (NOTE: "avg." short for "average"), "avg.", "above avg.", and "high". The seven sections and explanations are as follows:
Raw Psychic Power: Raw potential, regardless of application. Specialization: Capability in chosen signature power(s). Adaptability: Ability to learn new powers or apply them in new ways. Stability: Mental soundness and ability to preserve it. Mental Defense: Ability to resist outside psychic forces (ie. projection, Psylirium...). Mental Control: Ability to control their own mindscape. Non-Psychic Abilities: Capability in physical, mental, etc. abilities (ie. acrobatics). (NOTE: In this context I'm considering this specifically in ways the non-psychic abilities can be used in complement with and/or to otherwise enhance otherwise separate psychic abilities.)
End ID.]
So this is the chart! While it wasn't my explicit aim, I kind of focused on something, like, the Psychonauts as an organization might use to assess potential or existing agents - categories that would be useful to measure and consider in the field and such. I did three quick off-the-cuff samples with specific characters too, ranging from stuff we know pretty darn well to more speculative, but I tried to stick to "things we see fairly explicitly and unarguably in canon", which is why you'll see a couple things marked "insufficient data" - I'll explain my reasoning there and for everything below.
Tumblr media
[Image ID: The previous chart with a picture of Raz from Psychonauts 2 pasted to the left, and the stars for each section colored in to represent "score" in the given category. These "scores" are as follows:
Raw Psychic Power: 3 stars (average) Specialization: All stars colored grey, with an asterisk noting "insufficient data". Adaptability: 5 stars (high) Stability: 4 stars (above average) Mental Defense: 4 stars (above average) Mental Control: All stars colored grey, with an asterisk noting "insufficient data". Non-Psychic Abilities: 5 stars (high)
End ID.]
So here's our favorite little guy Raz! He seemed like an obvious candidate to assess with this chart since we see so much of his powers in action in a close-up, extensive way. The "raw psychic power" is admittedly debatable - you could probably argue for it to be above average and I'd be like "yeah". I mostly set it as average because some dialogue implies his use of his powers isn't particularly refined/spectacular, and comparing to say, the other campers or interns suggests as such as well. (For the record, for comparison, I'd consider the likes of Sasha, Milla and Oleander above-average in terms of raw power, and the likes of Ford, Maligula and Bob Zanotto on the high end.)
Where Raz really shines is his adaptability, which I set to the max rank accordingly - he picks up powers super fast and utilizes more distinct, unique psychic abilities than pretty much any other character we see. The next closest are the likes of Sasha, Milla, and Oleander, who seem to all use the "basic" suite of powers (TK, shielding, levitation, and PSI-blasts) at a high level with ease, on top of their specializations and/or more advanced capabilities. It's also implied that Raz is using the powers he picks up in unexpected and interesting ways, too, most notably in how the others react when he starts using Mental Connection. At least part of this is because of his other big high point, non-Psychic abilities - it's very clear and textual that Raz being an accomplished acrobat is a huge part of his success and plays a large part in how he approaches and uses his powers.
The other few categories... specialization, I'd argue we don't really see any concrete evidence of him "specializing" in a particular power or powers; in a lot of ways he's such a capable jack-of-all-trades because he doesn't seem to have any particular standout specializations. It's entirely possible he just hasn't had a moment of "clicking" with a particular power in the Three Whole Days we see him learning, though, so I've marked it "insufficient data" rather than low. The stability rating should probably also be "insufficient data", but like. The fact that the kid's still smiling after the Fucking Three Days he had is enough evidence for me to earn that 4-star stability rating. Mental defense, we see at the very start of the first game that he's able to resist Oleander's mental probing, and he's the least effected by the Psilirium in RoR outside Coach, so I think it's safe to say he's a bit of a standout there. Mental control, "insufficient data" again because we never actually see his mental world without external influences - first the interference from Coach/Loboto/Linda in the brain tumbler, then the Meat Circus when he and Oleander get their mindscapes all tangled. As such, I don't think we can make any kind of fair assessment of Raz's control of her his own mental world.
speaking of Oleander, though...
Tumblr media
[Image ID: The previous chart with a picture of Coach Oleander from Psychonauts 2 pasted to the left, and the stars for each section colored in to represent "score" in the given category. These "scores" are as follows:
Raw Psychic Power: 4 stars (above average) Specialization: All stars colored grey, with an asterisk noting "insufficient data". Adaptability: All stars colored grey, with an asterisk noting "insufficient data". Stability: 1 star (below average) Mental Defense: 5 stars (high) Mental Control: 5 stars (high) Non-Psychic Abilities: 2 stars (below average)
End ID.]
aw yeah baby it's Morry Time. let me explain my Visions. Raw psychic power - as mentioned earlier, I'd consider him above average, alongside Sasha and Milla. alongside just what we see of his powers in-game, I'd argue for the three of them to have the kind of separation they do from the rank-and-file Psychonauts agents, they must be a bit outside the norm power-wise as well. (yeah you could argue that they're separated from Motherlobe NPC #5 because they're main characters but whatever i'm approaching this in-universe it's more fun.)
as you can see we've got two sections for Morry that are marked "insufficient data", both of which probably require some explanation from me. Specialization I marked as this because I think the info we get here is conflicting and circumstantial - the first game doesn't really suggest Coach has any particular psychic specialty (you could argue maybe PSI-shield based on how you get it and some other circumstantial stuff about Oleander - it's what I like to imagine is his specialty - but it's hardly super foundational evidence), and the second game kind of retroactively implies it's PSI-punch (or at least that Coach signed off on Raz's merit badge for it), but we literally never see him use it. As such, insufficient data, I says! Adaptability, you might be able to argue it's low or below average since all the powers we see him use are pretty in line with the "standard" we see for everyone, but we also don't see him use a lot of his powers nor where or how he picked them up, and as I argued above for Raz, just the fact that he can use multiple powers capably at all is noteworthy. So, "insufficient data" seems most fair.
Now let's look at where Morry really shines - Mental Defense and Mental Control! Everything we see suggests he's really exceptional in both these regards. On mental defense, he's literally the only character we see resisting Psilirium to such an extreme degree, and even outside of that we see circumstantial evidence of him being able to keep folks out of his head - the two times Raz gets in, the first time he's explicitly invited in, and the second Morry's a disembodied brain stalling out by the side of the road. Mental control, similarly, he stands out - he, Sasha, and Milla I would argue are all above average on that front, being able to partition their minds and memories enough to create safe training grounds for the campers, but Oleander's also actively creating false memories to be discovered and passively maintaining his mental construct for the campers even when he's actively doing other shit (compare and contrast the vast majority of people basically going temporarily comatose when their mind is entered and like. damn morry).
On the flip side, the places where Coach really falters. Stability - This One Is Obvious I Think. the man processed his trauma so bad he kidnapped a lot of people about it and even after addressing that his solution was to keep doing the same exact thing but kidnap people less. That man aint well. Non-psychic abilities, well - take your pick. This is a himbo who can't swim. He doesn't know shit and he's a coward and he's bad at talking to people. Ironically, I genuinely think he's in the best possible place could be as head of Whispering Rock - he's genuinely protective and seems all right with kids, so he seems much better placed as a coach than as an agent.
anyway now that I've laid all that out perhaps you will allow me a more Speculative Argument.
Tumblr media
[Image ID: The previous chart with a picture of Doctor Loboto from Psychonauts 2 pasted to the left, and the stars for each section colored in to represent "score" in the given category. These "scores" are as follows:
Raw Psychic Power: 5 stars (high) Specialization: All stars colored grey, with an asterisk noting "insufficient data". Adaptability: All stars colored grey, with an asterisk noting "insufficient data". Stability: 1 star (below average) Mental Defense: 4 stars (above average) Mental Control: 4 stars (above average) Non-Psychic Abilities: 4 stars (below average)
End ID.]
if you're here, I assume you follow my blog. you knew this was coming.
ANYWAY! My Argument: Specialization and Adaptability, not enough data to say anything. We literally see him actively using powers for like, 30 seconds tops, which isn't enough to say if he has a particular specialization or if he's picking up multiple powers/using them in interesting ways. (You might be able to argue he's a TK specialist based on circumstantial evidence, but that's not particularly foundational, so I won't be arguing it as fact.) Stability, just like Oleander, obvious - he's not, like, well. At all. (I could argue, funny enough, that he's actually less stable post-Raz's interference in RoR, but that's a whole 'nother post.) Non-psychic abilities, again obvious, in the absence of access to his powers they're the only abilities he's been able to develop, and they're nothing to sneeze at! unstable though he be, he's an undeniably accomplished bio-mechanical engineer, and there's enough circumstantial evidence to indicate he's pretty physically capable as well (he survived the fall from the tower in the first game, for one, and need I mention the implication that he swam to the Rhombus of Ruin at least in part. fully clothed. carrying a suitcase)
Raw psychic power - and again I emphasize that this is raw potential, whether it's utilized or not - I think Loboto is really exceptional there just based on what little we see of his powers. Like, he's using telekinesis in a natural and fairly refined way as an infant, and there's enough circumstantial evidence on the level of his mental control and defenses (which I'll get into), as well as stuff like "whatever the Hell he did with Linda and Crispin and the like" that even without any conscious access to his powers, he's still using them pretty effectively. I genuinely think Loboto would be on the level of some of the strongest psychics we've seen if he could still use his powers.
and speaking of "I'll Get Into That", Mental Defense and Mental Control! this is where we see the most substantial evidence of loboto's powers, IMO - you'll see I marked him one down from oleander on both, who, as I detailed above, I think is very exceptional on both fronts. we see Loboto being very mentally defended in the first game, with Raz totally unable to get into his head, and if we take his words as truth Loboto somehow protected Crispin from psychic projection as well. Raz isn't able to get in his head alone until RoR (during which time he is Literally Surrounded By Psilirium, The Rock Which Dampens Psychic Abilities, Which Literally Only Oleander Has Been Shown Able To Resist In Full), and in Psychonauts 2's version of his mind it takes the efforts of Five Trained Psychics, who are also functionally hypnotizing him with a false mental construct, and even then it takes Literal Minutes for him to notice the ruse and start circumventing and ejecting them. this guy's got something going on and Sasha's theory that it's the fault of Loboto's employer doesn't hold much water because Loboto's employer is a complete non-psychic.
on the same front, mental control! this one's a little shakier, because in some respects it seems like the lobotomy has had a significant impact on this for Loboto (obviously in him being unable to use his powers anymore, at least consciously, but also in things like him being unable to access his mental compass and recognize right from wrong until Raz interferes). but at the same time, even with that, he's able to exude enough mental control to fight back against Sasha's construct and impose his own version of his mind over it, not to mention we him construct a false memory similar to Oleander (I personally believe Gristol at least partially had something to do with that, but that's, again, a whole other post, and the point is Loboto's still able to create and maintain a false memory for others to find in his own mind). given all that, I think we have enough evidence to conclude that Loboto's pretty capable on this front, and would probably be on Oleander's level if he weren't Actually Literally Physically Brain Damaged.
anyway. I don't actually have a nice clever ending to this rambling. I'm just Like This

I recently did a few polls on my yt channel community page - which (ok not many people votes so the data may be irrelevant) seem to have kinda shocking results - it showed that the Baba Yaga arc in the manga, contrary to my belief, was not the most popular part of the manga - and to the contrary, maybe the least liked part.
So that made me curious, is the only arc I as a famous dick that shits on the manga too much like actually not that good?
What is your oppinion on the Baba Yaga arc, especially compared to the following manga arcs?
It's pretty strong to be honest. Vwry strong, with good villains, good character moments, and set in motion by manga Maka's greatest moment of weakness, when she was too much of a coward to either confront and talk to Crona about learning about medusa and then go from there, or go to the higher ups about it, which would have had crona suffer the consequences.
Instead she hides it all away, like a coward, unable to decide on a course of action and what it could lead to.
And she is punished for it by being separated From Crona, which thematically means that her moment of weakness set into motion the entire rest of the series.
And unlike a lot of shonen arcs, the story does NOT end on a happy note, at least not for Maka, as while arachne and her faction is defeated, medusa used her like a puppet, and didn't hive her any hints of where Crona was, meaning that for Maka it was all for nothing.
Amd thats just our main character's journey. There is plenty more.
No the problem with the arc, and the reason why i think a lot of people might sour on it, is that taken as it's own, the manga version of the arc is great... But the anime version has the benefit of leading directly into the final part of the story, and so while it doesnt aim as high from a character standpoint regarding the whole archne/medusa plot, it works just fine as the events that sets the final battle into motion.
By contrast the manga version is soured by everything that comes after.
Noah is the single most forgettable and BORING villain in all of Soul Eater, with his faction being little better, and so his defeat of Musquito and kidnapping Kid doesnt feel particularily interesting when you know where it leads as it's extremely dissapointing.
The whole Liz and Patty being on their own, starts off interesting as post timeskip Patty seems to be completely losing it and backtracking to who she used to be, but it doesnt go anywhere.
Black Star is pretty much the only one of the characters who gets a good outcome, as while the following arc is rather shit, his development from Mizune's death and eventual rematch with kid is the best part of that arc.
The single worst off though, Is Maka.
Tumblr media
The baba yaga arc should for Maka, have been what the whitebeard war saga was for luffy. A great story, where all of her efforts are ultimately all for absolutely nothing.
The point of ultimate failure who's effects would define her decisions from then on.
But that's not what happens, because while Maka has a lot of nice moments after this, the climax of the arc is where Maka's journey as a coherent journey where you can trace her development in a logical manner ends.
The timeskip afterwards, rather than have her being utterly depressed or angry at the world, at Medusa and most of all at herself, instead has her in a great mood, and playing around with wanting to look cute, which isnt out of character per say(as maka is defintily a tomboy with a girly streak) but is utterly BAFFLING to have her be like this at this point when she should have been at her lowest.
And following that, her next development is her fears of holding Soul back after he became a death scythe? Like... That could have worked if the development post timeskip was about her having come developed a svere self hatred for failing Crona with her moment of weakness, but that really is not the way it's portrayed at all.
Her interaction with Crona post this is something i have covered before, as while there is plenty of great stuff there, the whole package is utterly ruined by the terrible ending the manga ultimately got.
Overall, the baba yaga arc is good on its own, but it very much marks the point where the manga had reached a clear and coherent direction(after some early less than perfect chapters) to the point where afterwards it would begin to spin it's wheels.

Zo: GAIA, I had a question about the data we've been studying.
ADMIN [GAIA]: Of course. How may I help?
Zo: Where did it all come from? You told me that you don't have access to APOLLO or any other Old World archives. This seems like far more data than what Aloy could have found on a few scattered devices.
Zo: I scanned some devices around the base and only found a few lines in each.
ADMIN [GAIA]: Before the Faro Plague, even the most commonly available devices could store libraries worth of text and hundreds of hours of high-resolution video. While most people rarely filled their devices to capacity, they would often be filled with many incidental articles and video clips related to their favorite topics. Time and inevitable data corruption rendered many of those files difficult or impossible to read; however, the last file the device accessed has minimal corruption and is most intact. With time, your Focus can restore many corrupted files, and I can accelerate this process. The restored files are then placed in an archive.
Erend: I WAS WONDERING HOW ALOY FOUND SO MUCH OF THIS CONCRETE BEACH PARTY STUFF.
ADMIN [GAIA]: Yes, she found several devices with many hours of their music. The redundancy is also why I was able to ensure the final archive versions were of such high quality.
Erend: NO COMPLAINTS HERE!
Varl: Many complaints here.
Zo: I suppose that explains why so much of the data is entertainment and history, rather than more directly useful information, such as farming.
Erend: I FOUND STUFF ON HOW THOSE FARO MACHINES WERE BUILT. I MEAN, I KNOW IT'S IMPORTANT, THESE WERE THE THINGS THAT WERE ENDING THE WORLD, BUT THERE'S A LOT OF TECHNICAL SPECS IN THERE. HARDER TO READ THAN THE CRAZIEST TINKER'S BLUEPRINT. AND I'VE SEEN SOME CRAZY TINKERS.
Erend: WHAT, DID ALOY JUST FIND SOME TINKER'S JOURNAL SOMEWHERE AND DOWNLOAD ALL HIS DATA?
ADMIN [GAIA]: That is not impossible. However, I do not believe I have properly impressed upon you how easy it was to access information. Once the threat of the Faro Plague became clear, all information on their design, weaknesses, and specifications was available for public perusal, and anyone could choose to download such information from the global data net at a moment's thought. Many of the devices Aloy scanned had gigabytes of data on the Faro Plague.
Erend: GIGA WHAT?
Zo: It's a measure of information. It should have been in one of the first files GAIA gave you, the terminology file.
Erend: UH, I SKIMMED THAT.
Zo: Sigh.
Varl: Did you just typed sigh?
Zo: It's difficult to convey tone and expression in a text.
Varl: I think the Old Ones must have had some way, considering how much they texted. I'll loom into it.
Erend: SO WHAT'S A GIGABYTE? LIKE, HOW MUCH DATA IS IT?
Aloy: A byte is eight bits, or the amount of data required to encode a single character of text. It's basically the smallest measurable amount of data.
Varl: Aloy? You were listening? Or reading?
Aloy: I have a minute. I can text while I ride.
Zo: That doesn't seem safe.
Erend: OKAY, OKAY, BYTE IS ONE LETTER, GOT IT. SO WHAT'S A GIGABYTE?
Aloy: Ten to the ninth power bytes.
Varl: What?
Zo: I don't understand either.
Erend: OH, MATH. I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN IT WOULD BE MATH.
Erend: SO IT'S A STUPIDLY BIG NUMBER. BUT, I MEAN... HOW MANY BOOKS IS THAT?
Aloy: One gigabyte of pure text is probably more books than you could read in a lifetime.
Erend: SO, WHAT, THREE?
Aloy: I'm glad I took time out of my busy day to explain this to you.
Erend: I AIM TO PLEASE!

[The City is located on the Moon: An Addendum]
Hello! It's your resident neighborhood Idiot, Did you ever want to possess some extra knowledge that won’t be relevant for atleast another decade?? No?
Damn, too bad You never had a choice, get [DATA EXPUNGED]
This post is an Unofficial follow up to Reddit(ew) user u/Evening_Giraffe_2744: "The City is located on the Moon" theory. Which posits the aforementioned title being true(no duh)
This post will work under the presumption that said theory is true and will provide additional information related to it(I sound so repetitive).
If you HAVEN'T read the post yet or need a refresher, go do that, else you'll be lost, and for everyone else, let's hop into this pit!
Alright so this post will (try) to answer 2 questions:
1-Where is the City (specifically) located?
2-What is the Great Lake(and any other detail I can fit in)
Alright, starting with the first one, please {LOOK AT THESE 3 PHOTOGRAPHES}:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Alrighty, the first two are pretty self explanatory, the one in red(left) is found within [LIMBUS COMPANY], both within the files and the downloading screen. And the second image(right) comes from Distortion Detective's very own Ezra!(it is very crudely drawn)
As for big old number 3? Well she's named Mare Imbrium and it's where the City located obviously! Don't believe me? Well watch this!:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As we can see in these 2 pictures, which I super imposed upon n'3, they fit decently well(and when I mean they, I mean the left one(sorry not sorry Ezra)) the only caveat being that both of them had to be flipped, tho I can definitely see it as a intentional choice on PM's part.(Plus it makes a bit more sense in the second question of this essay)
As a fun little bonus I'll even add the size of of Imbrium and by extension the City here(just don't expect this to be correct):
With a Diameter of 1145km(and assuming a circle)
We get a Circumference of ~3597.12km
Or an Area of ~1,029,677km2
If we want to find Volume(km3) we would need height(5km deep and 7km high cause of mountains) which gives us 12km of height
Add these into a calculator for a cylinder and we get a Volume of ~12,356,119.53km3
(The Diameter, Depth and Mountain Heights were take straight from Wikipedia.)
Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but I remember, somewhere, where it was mentioned by PM that the City should be either as big as Colombia or Bolivia, both of which fall very close to the Area(km2) that I have calculated, so unless this is confirmation bias, please correct me if I'm wrong.
Now onto question numero Zwei! What is the Great Lake??
Tumblr media
It's Oceanus Procellarum, like, it's not even a contest, PM would have to actively blind themselves not to make it O.P. Like, do you see the size that lad?? Do ya know how big it is? If you combined all the Mares on this image you would arrive at around ~4,4 million km2 which is 2.3 million short of how big O.P is, with a whopping 6.6 million km2 it is twice as big as India, needless to say, it is chunky.
Tl,dr; [The City on the Moon] theory as alot more ground(or sea) to stand on then you can even begin to fathom.
Fun facts:
1-Mare can be directly translated from Latin to English as [Sea].
2-Imbrium translates into [Rain] making it's full name [Sea of Showers].
3-there is a Mare called [Mare Cognitum] that is located above Mares Humorum and Nubium.
4-the reason why I didn't show my math for the rest of the Mares and O.P is because I simply repeated the same thing as when I calculated Mare Imbrium.
Afterword: Hello, hello, it's your lovable idiot here, sorry I haven't been uploading my art recently, I've been trying to figure out how to use Spine(the program and my normal one)+binged the first 3 novels of [Dungeon Dive: Aim for the Deepest Level] needless to say its fuking goooood, highly rec. My next NON-art related thing will probs be smt along the lines of [Re:conceptualizing LoR and LCB Systems] so, uh, stay turned for that? Apart from that, have a wonderful day!

Bee*R Lancer GSR Evolution article.
Tetsuya Kawasaki's
Popular series No. 34
Let's go with Pachigiri!!
Photo Akira Hosaka
Bee⭑R
Lancer GSR Evolution
290 horsepower specification
Defeat the Skyline GT-R, and the Lancer Evo announced by Mitsubishi aiming to conquer the WRC. Bee-Racing, which is familiar in this magazine, has already made a 290-horsepower specification by working on the suspension and CP. Now, can BeeR Lancer Evo's ability surpass R!?
Great possibility of GT-R killer!!
Bee☆R has already light-tuned the Lancer GSR Evolution, a 4WD machine boasting high power in a lightweight body and an amazing power-to-weight ratio.
The engine is normal, but each part is balanced, the turbine is processed and installed for VR-4 even though it is the same type of TD05 and the muffler is also processed and installed for VR-4.
The fuel tuning was set with the original ROM tune, which I am good at, and I marked 12.5 seconds in the 0-400m that I attacked the other day. When I took a quick look during the test drive, I noticed that there were about 4 ROMs on the side seats, so they were doing a replacement test.
When I measured Zeroyon, the boost was 1.0kg/cm, so if I boosted it a little more, it would be easy to break into the 11-second range, and the GT-R might even be on the line. However, since this car was made for rallying, the crossed gear ratios made it so busy that even a zeroyon would go into 5th gear!
Considering this shift, winding etc.
may be more advantageous.
The suspension is a Bee☆R original suspension kit with image brake pads, which is nice. The vehicle height is kept low, and cornering is good. I heard that the Lancer has a lot of understeer due to the 4WD, but it was barely noticeable. Ride comfort is not rugged and roll is suppressed.
As the car is light, the footwork is good, so it is more fun to ride than the GTR.
Changed the mission & differential that was shaken to the medium and low speed side
Well, if you raise the power a little more, it's true
I think it will be an interesting car. Car charm is value
The most fun is when you get on, not on the steps!!
I will be driving Bee☆R's Zeroyon again this year, so I'm looking forward to seeing a lot of tuned times. Also, I'll do my best to go this far, so thank you!!!!

have to have fun
It's not a tune, I'll do my best
Bee☆R, which has become a familiar name in HA, has completely changed its model after moving to Yokohama. The factory is spacious and well-organized, making tuning and maintenance possible at any time.
The computer's original ROM setting has been well-received for a long time, but the range of compatible models has been expanded, and now it covers many machines such as Toyota, Mazda, and Mitsubishi in addition to Nissan vehicles.
As for the undercarriage, they have a lot of know-how and will surely give you a satisfactory setting. President Imai himself is a racer who participated in the freshman race at Fuji Speedway, so I can trust his data.
Bee☆R's motto is to make fun cars and enjoy driving them!! That's why we never look at cars that don't interest us or customers who don't get along!! Secondly, I want to say that I will take care of every car I work on.
Rather than doing anything as long as you have the money, you can say that he has the spirit of a craftsman who thoroughly does what he likes.
It sounds like a grumpy store when you write it like this, but when you actually go there, all the staff are friendly and the atmosphere is really bright!!!! If you explain it properly, I'm sure it will live up to your expectations!!!
Let's go with Tetsuya Kawasaki!!

Competitive Play is a Mythos
Part of design is understanding a game's purpose. Who, what, where, why, when, how-
-and, most often, 'the fuck?'
Competitive modes tend to have a lot of those questions answered from the moment it is decided there's going to be one. Rules, laws, guidelines, are all set in place to make the mode as fair and just as possible so that player frustration is kept to a minimum.
That doesn't mean you won't get frustrated, mind you, just that the playing field is even enough that it should be easier to determine when a player is better than you.
(note the emphasis in that sentence)
Competitive play is based around level playing fields, encompassing rulesets, and a definitive goal for all players participating. Added/extra variables within the game have to be handled with care, or else the inevitable economics that rule competitive will warp any integrity or consistency you are aiming for:
Of course, I am referring to "Min-maxing".
Every little percentile, every tiny integer; split seconds, shaved seconds, movement efficiencies, 'techs', sightlines, high-ground, focus fire, call outs, short-hand comms, breakpoints-
-there's a list. Broad and wide and many. These are the variables used in a competitive setting, to establish both skill and allowance within the game, pushing beyond the standard (often simple) rules that govern the playing field and into a reservoir of external knowledge the likes of which could fill up a library.
The sort of reservoir that demands coaches of varying tiers, targeted workouts, military-grade/hyper-specialized reflex training, supplements and enhancements, textbooks of raw data, and the analysts to explain it in maximized efficacy.
Competitive play, the higher in the ranks and placements you go, draws increasingly from this reservoir of external knowledge. To the point that, at the highest levels, you might as well be a scholar taking classes only available in particular formats and under certain certifications.
All that to say: High Skill Play has little-to-nothing to do with playing the actual game.
Playing a game, any game really, can go back and forth on the field without this external reservoir of knowledge, but the moment that knowledge begins to get applied, the results are almost immediately noticeable.
A player who knows that High Ground is advantageous, will gain an edge and attempt to secure it more and more often. That edge is magnified, when said player understands why high ground is important.
The same goes for Focus Fire. When players can help coordinate their teammates to concentrate multiple streams of effort against a singular target, regardless of how the game is played, the answering effort can't compete just through sheer numerical comparison.
5 sources of damage focusing on 1 source of health, will always go in favour of the damage.
But learning about these concepts is part of that external reservoir of knowledge that makes up High Skill Play. One has to seek out that information (or, more rarely, stumble on it while playing the game) and, whereas it can often be the case that other players will pass that information on, only those capable of implementing it in their own gameplay will see those benefits.
And if a game, at it's baseline/foundation, does not have any education systems (UI, tutorials, pings, colour-coding, etc.) built into it's core, then much of the external reservoir of knowledge will either be impossible to discover or impossible to implement (probably both).
Which can, in turn, give the competitive side of that game a 'Glass Skill Ceiling'; you can watch High Skill Players achieving results with their gameplay, but attempting to implement it without the knowledge and frameworks those players access regularly (reflexively, even) will breed further frustration.
It might even convince a lot of players that would otherwise enjoy your game, to go looking for an easier one to play. Maybe not even easier, just one that has less of an External Reservoir of Knowledge.

Todays I-am-very-high-and-have-recently-rejoined-tumblr-because-I’ve-realized-I-need-more-social-interaction-but-tumblr-is-all-I’ve-got-the-energy-for thought is
… drum roll….
the most personal, soul exposing thing I think I could ever do, would be to let some one go through my ao3 bookmarks, even the private ones…. Like the amount of #asexual ♠️ 🐉🌌who kinda likes monsterfucking vibes but is also a depressed millennial who was into Harry Potter and anime and tumblr of yore. Yeesh, how cringe and vulnerable that would be.
Because I like to write when very high and used to write poetry as a moody teen. A good old internet rant into the void. This will get long and old school text formatting like the book House of Leaves is a thing I really love so weird punctuation and spacing ahead.
Also the recursive footnotes in the bartimaeus series
Also, also recently returned to tumblr… lured like a siren into this hell scape of super niche fandoms…. I blame @strange-aeons for making me nostalgic for this place.
On that note. I am actually editing this but mostly because my brain wanted to add things as I read this over for typos because cringe.
Nostalgia leads to reminiscing. I think it was @blackkatmagic who said in a note, that like some niche pairing of fandom like a ship no one asked for but one person dreamed of and a handful of other people liked, is like being in a little boat with them.
(And I had to go find that post so here it is)
And I really like that idea and I like writing stream of consciousness rants when high and also graphs, like data visualization, because I’m an engineer. So a nerd for Venn diagrams that are cool. Like can I make a web diagram bubble graph combo with bubble size for intensity of interest and lines to show how one community spawned an interest in another community? Maybe throw in a color scale for vibes? Like who are the landmarks I use to remember my internet past. Is this what mark zuckerburg is aiming to make for all of us? Can someone build this digital map of my psyche?
Let’s start listing citations to make this glorious journal paper of a post. Giving @strange-aeons or @danielhowell vibes but also @somemorenews and also @scishow and @fishingboatprocceeds energy.
This is like just feeling the need to give a good old trying to describe a very specific mood rant that live journal used to be for.….
Those vibes somehow. Also of course I listen to a lot of podcasts. Like @tanispodcast or @welcometonightvaletranscripts
Who is in this very niche intersection? How narrow of an audience am I?
Or ,
am I yearning for early days Facebook where you just liked a bunch of shitty pages that were just topics. Like quizilla was a window of my internet childhood/preteen (that’s a lie Neopets was first…….)
Which reminds me to also include @dilfosaur and @drawfee. Why do I love the sonic butthole saga so? Is Todd from Mario made manifest into the universe like a tulpa? Am I getting to last podcast on the left now? Do we need to get a net for me??? 🗑️ trap me under a wastebasket like a cat?
God I feel like I’m trying to write a phd thesis on my personality as described via citations of tumblr blogs and other early internet social media. Can I put footnotes in a tumblr post? No. Does my probably autistic ass want them so I can make a hyper detailed thing fully describes a hyper focus moment? Yes. Can I make a whole power point of just internet citations? Yes. Do I have the energy? No.
Should
Be narrating this? I wish, would be interesting if someone I’m citing replies or interacts with this.
Not to brag, but hey I actually did write a phd thesis and some one said it was good enough to give me a fancy piece of paper. I am doctor. Why am I still sad then? Oh, that’s mental illness right. Another citation for a mood elyse meyers
Is this stream of consciousness prose that I am writing while very high and curled in a blanket on my couch while having been overcome by emotion from a fanfic I was reading about a super random cross over of two media from my childhood? Then yes this is me. I am a garbage gremlin of a person who is shockingly successful in life despite my very fun depression and health issues who has way too many parasocial relationships in proportion to real world actual humans I see and interact with on a daily basis.
Is it not the human experience to try and communicate who we are to the world? The innate desire to be seen and known?
Or is that way to high brow for me just wanting to list a bunch of things I like so when I’m having a bad day I can come to this post and just be like…. Oh yeah I did like that one thing.
Like that one video by Drew/Danny/Kurtis that somehow always makes me laugh. Like that friend I had who I could also make laugh by playing the look at this graph vine? 📊. Yes like that. So this my reminder that hey stuff is good and joyful and cringe sometimes, so on the bad days go look at this stuff. I feel @danielhowell has thoughts on this.
That’s it. I should go to sleep. It’s midnight and I have work tomorrow and my cat is glaring at me because we are not snuggling yet.
Tumblr media
P.S.
Tumblr really is just MySpace but somehow worse? Yet it’s what we have.
And really the porn had never left. What were they thinking they could do/are doing about it? Like hello tumblrlive makes this app so nsfw to scroll at work when I’ve got time to kill. But also sometimes I want to look at art someone has posted and I’ve got a notification.

Artificial Condition, Chapter 4
(Curious what I'm doing here? Read this post! For the link index and a primer on The Murderbot Diaries, read this one! Like what you see? Send me a Ko-Fi.)
In which the real work begins.
I came back online to find I was at 26 percent capacity, but the percentage was climbing slowly. Bands of pain circled my knee and elbow joints, so intense I couldn’t process it. My human skin itched. And I was leaking. I hate that.(1)
It can't focus enough to play media, and even small movements make it worse. It wishes it had enacted one of its plans to incapacitate Art. The process of healing is like being in a repair cubicle, without the cubicle's ability to shut down higher functions until repairs are complete.
At least it's not cold, though.
Eventually, its levels even out, and it can focus enough to turn down its own pain sensor. At 75 percent capacity, it tries to sit up. MedSystem starts throwing warnings, and Art says there's no need to move yet. But, it's been scanning newsfeed archives from the time of the RaviHyral incident, and asks if MB wants to know what it's found. MB eases back down grumpily, leaking from a new place, and tells Art it can read search results. Art suggests MB take advantage of its expertise in data analysis.(2)
MB agrees, with ire, and Art says the incident took place in a particular installation called Ganaka Pit, with fifty-seven fatalities caused by equipment failure. When MB doesn't respond, Art says that MB's initial assumption was correct after all, the incident did occur, and they can proceed to investigation.
MB wants to shut down, but it would affect the healing process. Art asks if it wants to watch media. MB doesn't respond, but Art starts playing an episode of Sanctuary Moon.(3)
When it's able to get off the platform, at first it falls, but by the end of the cycle it's more or less back to normal. It even uses the human cleaning facility, so it smells unsettlingly like a clean human at the end. The hair now growing from its skin might cause issues putting on a suit skin, but humans put them on with a minimum of complaint, so it can't be that bad.
MB goes to the recreation space and tests itself on the exercise machines and treadmill, even aiming (though not firing) its weapons to be sure nothing's out of alignment.
It looks in the mirror for a long time. It figures out exactly why it didn't want to do the procedure.
It would make it harder for me to pretend not to be a person.(4)
They arrive at RaviHyral on schedule. Art grabs a map, and MB realizes it's been altered since the accidents, to hide the Ganaka Pit installation's location. Concealing what happened would be high on the company's priorities, so maybe they paid the bond quickly to get the client's help minimizing information and access to the site. Either way, MB will have to figure out where Ganaka Pit is, or was, before it can go there.
The next obstacle is the shuttle from the transit ring to RaviHyral itself. Only people with employment passes can board the shuttles, zero tourism. MB starts catastrophe-planning, but Art suggests that if someone hired MB as a consultant, it would have employment, and a pass. MB asks if Art is insane, but Art has watched its humans hire consultants, and it can help MB. And look, there's an ad for a security consultant position available now.
MB links into Art's comm so Art can ride with it, but as it leaves, its efficiency drops to 96% right off. It checks the entertainment feeds to try to calm down, as it hacks its way through the embarkation security. It has a location and a time for a meeting about the consultant gig, and on the way it notices that there's not nearly as much crowding, and Art's modifications start to feel like a necessity after the fact.
MB finds the humans in the food court just fine. Two women and a tercera, a gender signifier used in a particular non-corporate political entity.(5) MB had to hack the thankfully vulnerable system to backdate its arrival and marked its gender as indeterminate, to set up the meeting.
The humans look nervous. MB introduces itself as Eden, their contact, having stolen borrowed the name of a character from Sanctuary Moon.(6) The tercera introduces terself and ter companions as Rami, Tapan, and Maro respectively, and makes a gesture Art confirms for MB is an invitation to sit. MB spends most of a page describing them, and notes that they're all very young for adults.
MB can see that it's going to have to help move this conversation along, so it says-asks if they want to hire a security consultant, even knowing the answer is yes from the ad. Maro suggests moving to a more secure location. MB initiates a glitch in the local surveillance, and Art helps erase it and the whole table from perception and recordings, then MB assures the humans they're not being recorded. Rami is startled and asks if MB did something, but MB just repeats that it's a security consultant. Its panic level starts to drop, partly because the humans are nervous, and it's used to dealing with nervous humans.(7)
Tapan gets the implication and asks if MB is "spliced" with extra feed access in its augments. MB says yes, among other things. Maro worries they can't afford someone of that caliber, but Rami says they'll have plenty to pay with if they can get their data back. While Art looks up pay scales for security consultants, MB asks why they need its help.
Rami looks at the other two, and at their nods, explains that they and four others in their group do mineral research and tech development, and were working for Tlacey Excavations. The terms of the contract seemed too good to be true, but they took it hoping they'd have time to develop their own tech on the side for detecting synthetic element traces left by dead alien civilizations. Only, they were terminated with no notice and Tlacey stole all their personal work as well as the work they'd been paid for. They even deleted current versions of files off their devices, they only had outdated offsite backups. They filed a complaint, but it's taking ages to go through.
MB offers that they should go to a solicitor, thinking how the company was never so careless as to delete files off personal devices when datamining. Rami says they considered a solicitor, but they're not in the union, so it would be too expensive. Tlacey gave them an offer yesterday, though, that if they returned the signing bonuses, they could get the files back.
MB gathers that they don't trust Tlacey, and Maro confirms it, but the group still wants to go to the meeting. MB can't imagine a good outcome from it, but this is exactly the job it's designed for.
MB asks if they think there's something Tlacey wants out of the meeting besides killing them. Maro makes a gesture that's vaguely threatening until Art identifies it as emphatic agreement. Rami says the work was incomplete, but Tlacey must have been listening on the security feeds and thought they were closer than they were to done. They might have realized the progress isn't worth anything without the team to finish it.
Essentially, Tapan is optimistic, Maro is pessimistic equivalent to MB, and Rami is the undecided tiebreaker. This is why they wanted to hire "Eden", to help and show they have backup.
MB accepts the job, and Maro asks how much it charges. Art offers spreadsheets, but MB asks how much they were getting paid, and asks for their daily rate. Rami is surprised at the lowball, and MB can't correct the mistake, but decides to give them a partial truth to explain it: it needs the employment pass to go to RaviHyral. Tapan asks why, and when Rami nudges her, she clarifies she knows they don't have a right to ask, but she's asking anyway. MB is a little unsettled to realize it's the first time that's ever applied to it, and offers some more truth: it has research to do for another client.
At that, the team agrees to put in for the employment shuttle pass, and they separate with a promise to meet again the next day. MB promptly goes back to Art, and they spend three hours calming it down watching serials.
ART monitored the transit ring’s alert feed in case someone had realized what I was, but there was nothing. I told you so, ART said. Again. I ignored it. I hadn’t been detected, so now it was time to think about the rest of the plan. Which now involved keeping my new clients alive.
=====
(1) Nothing worse than organic bits leaking, amirite? (2) Art is being a Good Friend, not getting grumpy with MB or calling it childish for not being at full function. Good Art. (3) See? Good friend! MB is not the only benevolent non-human consciousness in this universe and I'm so pleased it found a friend like Art. (4) Which is part of the point… but it's also a huge turning point for MB's life. After four years of confined-freedom, it can now have a much truer form. It's leaving everything it knew behind, and that's scary as heck even without all the trauma MB carries and is making itself face up to. (5) And, here, the reason I never went too deep on Murderbot as agender representation being a construct/robot. We're kind of overrepresented by non-humans like aliens and robots, it's very true true, but there are nonbinary humans in this universe as well. They're just not the main characters, for obvious reasons. (6) We get our names from everywhere when we change them. Some flip as close to the gender of their birth name as possible, some choose a name that speaks to them, and sometimes you take the first name that comes to mind that you think you'll respond to appropriately in public. (7) Lots of familiar ground in this scene for it.

Rough (and I mean rough no blending, colored outside the lines, etc) drawing that I refuse to actually finish by adding details or cleaning it up but figured I might as well share it
Tumblr media
(Can you tell I did the bare minimum on the clothes just enough to make it distinctly Pomefiore?)
Name: Yasaymi Wayullu (Twisted from Yzma-Emperor’s New Groove)
Grade: Second-year
From the Scalding Sands
Has a childhood friend, Kunak Zumaraln (Twisted from Kronk) who is part of Savanaclaw (maybe he’s human, maybe he’s a chipmunk beastman idk haven’t decided)
Yes I know the animal Kronk talks to is Bucky the squirrel but he was “a Junior chipmunk”although that is his boy scout rank but liberties apply
May sketch him later idk
Would get along with Jamil because they both had to take care of people like servants and went vastly under appreciated, also from the same place
I reckon that Twisted!Kuzco (who’s a first-year at RSA) ‘s family is wealthy and frequently does business with Kalim’s family. That or maybe Kuzco’s family is a branch of the royal family? (What’s the scalding sands lore? Do they have a sultan or…?)
Side note: Twisted!Kuzco befriend third-year RSA student Twisted!Pacha
But this isn’t about them
Yasaymi is Vil’s favorite underclassman (sorry Epel) since he embraces and even enhances his feminine looks, gets good grades, has a talent for the fine arts, gets what needs to be done done
Honestly like a mini-Vil in a way
But is also just.
If Epel is a feral gremlin, Yasaymi is a free-range menace
His mottos are “if it doesn’t say you can’t then you can” and “everything’s free real estate as long as you don’t get caught”
Causes problems on purpose (takes joy in the fact that there’s no Twisted!Kuzco to take care of so all his repressed childhood inner beastie is unleashed upon Night Raven)
Is that student that doesn’t pay attention in class, crams/pulls an all-nighter the night before (much to Vil’s chagrin) and then aces the test the next day
“You should study in moderation every day so the information sinks into your brain. Not sleeping will ruin your complexion”
“It hasn’t failed me yet, senpai”
“That’s not the point-“
“If it’s not broke, don’t fix it 🤩”
Worst class is probably PE just cuz he doesn’t want to put in all that work and get sweaty
“Yeah but you can’t PROVE I’m not trying my hardest, that’s subjective”
“You’ve hardly worked up a sweat”
“But according to prior attempts, I’ve improved haven’t I? Data doesn’t lie, I must be doing something right to reach a new milestone. Aiming too high without a proper foundation could hurt me in the long-run”
(Totally planned and set the bar low from the beginning so that future goals set would be well within reach without needing to work for it. His stamina is actually really good, had to be to keep up with wrangling Twisted!Kuzco 25/8)
Best class is alchemy but also drives Crewel a little insane because he overcomplicates every recipe where they aren’t even recognizable methods.
Definition of getting the right answer with the wrong formula
“That’s not how you’re supposed to brew this potion. How did you even create this potion using a completely different ingredient make up and brewing method? That shouldn’t be possible”
If there’s anything you’ve taught me Teach, it’s that anything is possible if you put your mind to it :)”
Terrified people in that class because if something goes wrong who knows what kind of monstrosity he’d create
But as long as he’s turning in potions that complete the assignment, no one can say shit to him about it
Would enters into contracts with Azul and purposely breaches them just to mess with him
Of course the actual punishment would have to be reasonable enough for him to do it but Yasaymi is the name and malicious compliance is his game
“Why do I not have access to your unique magic? There’s no way you’re able to negate my own so just how?”
“Contract stated that I’d give you my most prized magical ability, not my unique magic. And what I believe MY most prized magical ability is my talent in potion-brewing”
“YOUR POTION BREWING DOESNT EVEN MAKE SENSE! HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO USE SOMETHING I DONT UNDERSTAND”
“That’s rough, buddy”
“Yasaymi, these study guides I ordered you to make are worthless. You’ve barely put more than a single bullet point in some sections and even the facts aren’t even right”
“Hey I obey the letter of the law. You asked for study guides and I delivered. You should have specified that you wanted them to have correct information”
“You were supposed to place it on my desk”
“I did! It just happened that your desk magically relocated itself to the woods behind campus”
“…I asked you to sell these experimental samples at the festival….”
“Yep!”
“…and you returned with zero thaumarks to give me.”
“Well, I did sell them but then I saw this stand with some gorgeous hair accessories that I thought Rook-senpai and Vil-senpai would enjoy and remembered that you never said I couldn’t keep the thaumarks for my own use so I spent them.”
Azul eventually cuts his losses and rips up the contracts himself
“Hey Azul I need a favor, enter into another contract with me 👉👈🥺?”
“NoO”
“Pleeeeease?”
Just to tell me what you need. I’ll do it so just leave me alone, I beg of you. You’re going to ruin my business at this rate.”
All according to keikaku (Plan: long-con Azul into thinking he’d profit but constantly mess everything up for him, but knowing azul he’d be determined to not give up. I can wear him down though I bet, especially if losses outweigh the wins. Became so infamous that he’d dread even being near me which would let me ask him a favor and he’d do it for me for free. The marks of a true friendship. Doing things with no strings attached)
Every day Riddle thanks the Sevens that Yasaymi wasn’t sorted into Heartslabyul
Started the “Awareness” club. Whose main activity is working to raise member’s proficiency with sensing malignant intent around them, as well as being able to positively channel negative emotions to prevent overblot. A self-defense/self-help club.
Actually just a front for a pranking club as pulling tricks on students and faculty based on the premise of the club can be counted as activities supported by the school since it would for other people to “raise their own awareness of their surroundings”
Grim joins and Yuu is an unofficial member.
One of his cards duo magic is with Epel and the line is “Come little Apple, I shall show you the true art of how to get your way” “Let’s prank ‘em Senpai!”
His nickname is probably Miyu/Miyullu courtesy of Cater
I also imagine that when Lilia makes an extremely lethal dish, Silver calls in Yasaymi who has the confounding ability to turn Lilia’s batshit crazy recipes into something edible (and quite tasty)

How long does it take for SEO to work?
A worry that the majority of business owners have when thinking about Google website optimization. It depends, as anyone with even a cursory experience with SEO would tell you. However, this is not helpful to anyone because it is impossible to determine whether SEO is a sensible investment with such a confusing response.
The majority of experts (82%) claim that it usually takes 6 months for SEO to generate traffic, with the full effects showing up 12 to 24 months later. The top 3 Google results pages account for 75,1% of all traffic.
It is impossible to produce a best guess that applies to all websites. Since Google and other search engines aim to show the best results for each unique search query, it requires efforts to achieve a top ranking on them.
However, with the right plan in place, 6 to 12 months is enough time to evaluate the success of SEO efforts and show why it is worthwhile to keep investing in growth.
Let's look at the aspects that influence this to assist you in better understanding how long it takes to realize SEO success.
The Past of Your Website
Building up a picture of the site's history is always a smart idea while working on a new project. If the site has allegedly lost a considerable amount of organic visibility, it is implied that a problem or a quality issue needs to be fixed. On a site that has lost exposure in this way, a new SEO approach will probably take longer than a year to get results comparable to past performance.
Content
As much as you've certainly heard, content continues to be one of Google's top three ranking factors.
Why would subpar content fare well in the SERPs when Google's objective is to offer the best results for a particular search query?
It's critical to prioritize developing excellent content that satisfies a searcher's intent, but also to spend some time learning about what's already ranking so you can improve upon it. Studying information that has already been performed will teach you a lot.
Technical SEO
Before you can see the progress, you want to see, any technical SEO issues that may be present on a site must be fixed. Crawling and indexing, site performance, canonicalization, structured data, duplicate content, XML sitemaps, and other issues are all part of technical SEO.
Although some of these difficulties will be more significantly impacted by resolving them than others, it is still important to fix any technological concerns.
Technical SEO won't be sufficient on its own, though. Consider overcoming these problems as taking the brakes off your project and enabling your website to compete.
Competition
In comparison to competitive search queries, results can be visible much sooner in low-competition domains. You need to think about how your rivals got to where they are now and what they are doing to keep this visibility. Your strategy and projections need to take into account your competition, particularly how aggressive their strategies are.
Using some tools to compare your present performance to up to four competitors will give you a decent idea of the competitive gap.
Backlinks
One of the top 3 ranking variables used by Google is backlink quality. These are trust and popularity factors that have the power to boost a website's rankings.
Links between two sites are effectively votes of confidence, after all. But you must realize that obtaining high-quality backlinks rarely can be sped up.
It requires effort and typically entails producing outstanding content that other people want to link to. Additionally, this can take some time to close if there is a sizable link gap with rivals.
Search for the Best SEO company in Gurgaon that can make a difference. Hiring an SEO company in Gurugram without doing your research might be risky. One of the top SEO services company in Gurgaon, Advert India has a high client retention rate and delivers the best outcomes.

How to Choose the Right BI Market Research Company for Your Business
In the world of business analysis, business intelligence market research is so important to your long-term growth. Business intelligence has grown rapidly as a form of study, utilizing the masses of data out there today to make informed choices on behalf of your business. These BI market research insights tend to be built around identifying patterns, seeing trends, and then creating strategies based on trends.
Many BI market research companies exist out there – how do you choose the right expert to support your business and make the right calls?
Experience Is Essential
The first and most obvious thing to consider when researching BI market research companies is their experience level. Make sure they are not a new start; you want to hire a company that has a history, even a small one, of being in the industry. You do not want to be their ‘patient zero’—hire a company that has at least two years of experience in providing BI market research.
Suitability To Industry
Some BI market research companies are better suited to certain industries, while others are jack-of-all-trades types. We generally suggest that you look for BI market research from companies with a specific niche or industry. For example, a BI market research firm focused on IT companies might not be the best choice for a retailer, and vice versa.
Transparency
Many BI market research companies tend to take on your research needs and then simply go dark in terms of communications—at least until the job is done. We recommend that you look for companies that are more transparent and open in their communication. That matters a great deal as it ensures that the company is keeping you up-to-date on their findings. Now, you do not have to worry about whether or not the process only took them minutes when you have been billed for several hours.
At the very least, you want to know that your BI market research company of choice gives you a dedicated manager for your research.
Research Methodology
You also want to know how they go about learning about the market(s) that they cover. You should look to find out how they gather their business insights: is it through surveys? Focus groups? Online trends? Reports? Studies? What do they focus on when it comes to building their BI market research? How do they come to the conclusions, and why are they trustworthy conclusions?
Versatility To Adapt
You need a company that can offer more than one kind of market research, too. Look for a company that can give you a bespoke approach to market research. This means hiring someone who can understand the goals and aims of this project and then adapt the methods they use to ensure that the results are tailored to the kind of information and conclusions you require.
Pricing
Last but not least, make sure that the price that you are being charged is one that you can afford. Most BI market research companies are affordable, but some can really ramp up the price they charge based on various factors. Our advice would be not to go too high, as it might leave you out of pocket, but not go too low; the cheapest BI market research companies are affordable for a reason!
Keep the above ideas in mind, and you should find it much easier to go about hiring an expert in the field of BI market research. Use their insights to your advantage, and you could transform how your business performs on the market, armed with information and ideas you would not have had previously.

Your Guide To Paid Physician Surveys
Surveys are dime-a-dozen. Most surveys are often ignored or overlooked, owing to the magnitude of spam. However, for healthcare professionals, joining medical marketing research survey panels can be a viable way to earn extra money, at or above your normal rate of pay. It is also an ideal way for medical practitioners to supplement their income. Finding paid medical survey panels where physicians respond to questions related to their area of medical expertise – can do a world of good to the global patient community. Several companies, government agencies, and healthcare groups would adore knowing the opinions of highly experienced doctors and other healthcare professionals on treatments, patient care, ways of practicing medicine, and other topics that would help improve the healthcare system. That’s where healthcare surveys are merited as one of the easiest side gigs for a physician and other healthcare professionals. Answer some simple questions whenever you find yourself with a little time to kill in a day and you are done! — You can earn some money in no time at all. you’ll get paid in cash or, if you favor, in gift cards.
What are paid physician surveys?
Medical surveys are used as a search tool by government agencies and pharmaceutical businesses to acquire information from a select group of people, like doctors, nurses, medical students, pharmacists, and other healthcare practitioners. These companies will leverage your opinion to shape the longer term of the healthcare industry. So, by signing up for a paid medical survey site, you’re not only supplementing your income but also playing an active part in molding the medical landscape. A physician survey is like all other surveys, but they’re aimed specifically at doctors who have expertise in certain fields and conditions. It’s an opportunity for clinicians to highlight the issues that are important to them and their patients. And at the same time, doctor’s surveys arm companies with valuable medical insights and accurate information that allow them to strategize and support what’s happening on the frontlines of medicine. The goal of a paid physician survey for organizations is to receive valuable information from physicians about their opinions on various issues important to the management and practice of healthcare. In other words, the survey provides information that will be used to influence health policy or medical treatment decisions. These insights pay exceptionally well, counting on the physician’s specialty. for instance, oncology is in high demand, with rough estimates revealing genuine medical surveys for money paying up to many dollars per hour for a participant’s time.
Types of physician surveys
There are two sorts of research that are most commonly used for paid physician surveys: quantitative and qualitative.
1. Quantitative – As the name suggests, quantitative research focuses on data and numbers, summarizing physicians’ responses to questions. This often includes statistical analysis that either proves or disproves a hypothesis. A quantitative survey gathers data to use in testing, so you won’t be asked to supply in-depth answers or opinions.
2. Qualitative – Qualitative surveys are focused on gathering more abstract information, like opinions or motivations. The goal of qualitative surveys tends to be focused on gaining insights into people, instead of numerical data. Be prepared to answer “why” and “how” questions and offer more in-depth answers than you’d on a quantitative survey.
Benefits of taking paid physician surveys
There are multiple benefits of participating in medical surveys for physicians. Here are just some of the top benefits for survey participants.
1. Supplemental income for physicians – you will be able to get extra income by just answering some simple questions in your expertise.
2. Play a task in the latest medical developments – Never lose sight of the very fact that these surveys contribute to the latest medical developments. By offering real-world insights into various specialist fields, physicians play a crucial role in future medical advancements and progress. Physician surveys for money, therefore, also make a difference in the lives of clinicians and patients— also as to the future of medicine.
3. Give your patients a voice – Many top pharmaceutical companies depend on physician surveys to help them understand their patients’ experiences with their drug products. After all, patients have valuable feedback which will make healthcare companies understand more about how the drug works in real-world scenarios. By participating in surveys, you’ll share information about prescribing habits, patient usage of the drugs, and attitudes toward the company’s products.
4. Keep up with the latest while getting paid – An increasing number of physicians are learning from surveys. By doing so, they will keep up with the latest research and treatments to better treat their patients. One method physicians can learn from surveys is by getting up-to-date information about new technologies as well as diagnostic and treatment options. By participating in surveys, doctors also can learn what other physicians think about what the latest research shows. It can help them better understand other physicians’ opinions so that they can better care for their patients.

Said no to tracking cookies? Good chance your data are still being collected - Technology Org

Said no to tracking cookies? Good chance your data are still being collected - Technology Org
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When browsing the internet, it’s hard to escape those annoying pop-ups: ‘Control your cookies! Accept or decline.’ You might make an effort to decline the cookies. Privacy is key. Good for you, right? That’s mostly wishful thinking, according to the research of Amit Zac and his colleagues. Our study shows that 65% of the websites we were able to test ignore user rejection choices.’
Just a quick reminder: What are digital cookies again? ‘They’re small files installed on your computer to gather information’, says Zac. ‘Your location, IP address, previously visited pages, and email address are examples of information that cookies track and collect.’ Websites are legally obliged to get permission to gather personal data – hence the annoying pop-ups. ‘The regulation aimed to protect the privacy of EU citizens online’, Zac explains.
Intentional violations
What is the level of compliance when it comes to the requirements of consent? That’s the question Zac asked in his research with Ahmed Bouhoula, Karel Kubicek, Carlos Cotrini and David Basin from the computer science department at ETH Zurich. They created an automated process using machine learning methods, which allowed them to analyze 100 thousand websites in Europe. The results were stunning: around 90 percent of websites seem to fail at least one requirement. ‘That’s an incredibly high percentage. If this percentage of people did not follow traffic laws, they would not leave their homes. The online world seems to be different from the offline world, and I wanted to know why,’ he says.
The research differentiates between 2 types of violations. ‘Naive violations’, as Zac calls them, and back-end intentional violations. ‘An example of a naive violation is to not ask for consent to collect cookies at all.’ The research showed that 32 percent of websites visited by European users, lacked a question for consent altogether. ‘These violations are very visible and easy to detect. So visible that the France Data Protection Agency (CNIL) has already fined Google, and others, for not including a reject button next to the accept button for cookies. We found that 56% of our studied sample is still missing a reject button’.
A back-end violation is sneakier and happens behind the veil of compliance, which makes it much harder to notice. ‘It means that a website does whatever it wants on the back-end, regardless of your answer. When you click on “reject all cookies”, it still uses tracking cookies, even though you have explicitly opted out. Our study shows that 65% of the websites we were able to test, ignore user rejection choices. Websites also often collect information before you answer the consent pop-up, or register closing the pop-up screen as giving consent. The law does not allow that in most cases. Explicit consent is needed for gathering your personal data.’
User manipulation
In addition, companies use so-called ‘dark patterns’ to nudge for more consent. ‘The classic example is the use of colors. The accept button is made more attractive by the use of bright colors and the reject button is made less visible and colorful. Another example is hiding the reject option by using smaller letters, making it harder to notice. The research showed that on many websites the “accept” and “reject” buttons for cookies look very different, which might indicate user manipulation.’
The machine learning method the researchers created allowed them to differentiate between violations made by popular websites and smaller websites. ‘We found that the more popular websites score low when it comes to the easily detectable violations, such as not having a consent banner. But these websites score relatively high on the back-end intentional violations. The popular websites are a bit sneakier about violating your rights. They give you the feeling you’re protected by asking for consent. But in reality, it’s worse because they ignore your choices. It’s a facade of compliance.’
Is it then still worth the effort to refuse cookies when you visit a website? ‘I still take cookies seriously. I always say no and try to minimize my exposure to random click traps online. You can install an extension on your browser that blocks attempts to collect your data, regardless of your cookie answer or use a VPN. Although I think most users don’t bother, maybe because of the illusion that makes them believe they are protected under the system.’
Next step: new technology
‘At this point, cookie consent notices are broken,’ states Zac. So how do we fix this gap between the law and reality? ‘There are small companies that lack the technical and legal knowledge to comply with regulations. We want to help small and medium size players to become compliant by offering them useful technology. Policy makers should also help the naive players because not all companies are intentionally violating the laws.’
Other firms are purposely violating the law; for them a different approach is needed. ‘Some websites operate under the impression that they won’t get caught. This is where the internet becomes the wild west. Data protection agencies can’t keep up with the technology and the diffusion of dark patterns. We need new technologies to address this on a much bigger scale. That’s the next step. I want to approach the right people in the Netherlands and say to them: “We have the methods here to boost compliance with the law.”’
