His mantelpiece already groans under the weight of awards including a Grammy, a Brit and honours from MTV and Ivor Novello – and now pop star Harry Styles is being tipped for an Oscar.
The 28-year-old’s performance alongside The Crown’s Emma Corrin and Rupert Everett in the upcoming drama My Policeman is being hailed as ‘masterful’ by Hollywood insiders.
A producer for one major studio who saw an early screening of the £15 million film told The Mail on Sunday: ‘If you think Harry Styles is big now, just wait. This performance will blow everybody’s socks off.
‘People were standing up and cheering him at the end of the screening. It’s a masterful performance and all the talk afterwards was about how he may get a Best Supporting Actor nomination at next year’s Oscars.’
Styles – whose highest profile previous role was in 2017’s Dunkirk – plays a homosexual policeman Tom Burgess who struggles to hide his sexuality after marrying wife Marion, played by Corrin, in the 1950s drama.
His character falls madly in love with a museum curator called Patrick, played by Everett.
The source said: ‘Harry’s performance is raw and real. He puts his vulnerability on display for all to see. This is a break-out performance which has everyone in Hollywood talking.
‘When Harry got Dunkirk people assumed it was because of who he was, his star power, rather than any real acting talent. But in My Policeman he shines.
It’s an incredible performance. All anyone could talk about afterwards was Harry and how he’s likely to get an Oscar nod for this.’
Styles, a member of the boyband One Direction before embarking on a solo pop career, has made no secret of his acting ambitions.
In one interview he said: ‘I like to challenge myself and do something different and movies are definitely where I feel most out of my comfort zone.’
Styles also stars in upcoming drama Don’t Worry Darling.
One of my close friends got married this weekend so we travelled to a remote little town for the wedding. The wedding day was beautiful and magical. Like a fairytale. Everyone had an amazing time. At night there was a big party. We danced the night away! Armenian weddings are the best!!! I also met some interesting and kind people, and it was sooooo nice to see her family after a very long time. She and her family always make me feel so at home ♡
Spent a very lazy Saturday today :) Slept in, had a chill walk in the morning, scrolled through tiktok, watched Friends clips, and did NOTHING. It was awesome.
Resting the whole day is nice. My brain still feels full but I’d like to be more present to be honest. I really want to try and lessen social media use… I’ll try my best :”( I hate how my mind needs to keep reeling and feeding on short-lived content. Want to get back into reading books… my Kindle… I miss you </3
Anyway! I also cleaned my room today B) Hell yeah, right? Also, me and Ninang made a nice creamy mushroom pasta for dinner. So good! I am going to bed full & happy :)
Things I’m grateful for today: pasta, beds, the sun, clear skies, water, mushrooms, family, hope, showers, moisturisers, petroleum jelly, pillows
