Osama Bin Laden’s 21-Year-Old Letter Goes Viral After TikTok Influencers Promote It, Netizens Say 'Eyes Opened'
— Washington DC | Edited By: C Krishnasai | November 16, 2023 | Wionews
Tumblr media
Many TikTok influencers started sharing the text from British news outlet ‘The Guardian’, which had published the two-page document in 2002 containing his ideological standing and explanation over what led him to engineer the 9/11 attacks. Photograph:(Agencies)
Story Highlights:
Among the major takeaways of the 21-year-old incendiary document, bin Laden’s statement that the 9/11 attacks happened because of America’s support of Israel caught everyone’s attention.
“Letter to America”, a two-decade-old letter written by the late terrorist Osama bin laden, is going viral online after some TikTok influencers claimed that the missive provides clues to the ongoing Israel-Hamas war and that it can be read to make sense of the current world order.
Many TikTok influencers started sharing the text from the British news outlet ‘The Guardian’, which had published the two-page document in 2002 containing his ideological standing and explanation over what led him to engineer the 9/11 terror attacks.
Osama's Statement on 9/11 Attacks Gaining Traction
Among the major takeaways of the 21-year incendiary document, bin Laden’s statement that the 9/11 attacks happened because of America’s support of Israel caught everyone’s attention.
“They threw hundreds of thousands of soldiers against us and have formed an alliance with the Israelis to oppress us and occupy our land; that was the reason for our response on the eleventh,” the letter, which can easily be found elsewhere online, reads in part.
Letter Read by Millions of Users
The TikTok trend gained traction after an influencer, Lynnette Adkins, posted a short video on the social media platform in which she can be heard telling her nearly 12 million followers, “I need everyone to stop doing what they’re doing right now and go read ‘Letter to America,’ I feel like I’m going through an existential crisis right now.”
The responses to her videos ranged from a user saying that their “eyes have been opened,” to another user claiming, “We’ve been lied to our entire lives, I remember watching people cheer when Osama was found and killed.”
Guardian Removes Article
After the letter went viral, The Guardian removed the original letter from its site. Now, when a user opens the particular link, they are greeted with a message which reads, “This page previously displayed a document containing, in translation, the full text of Osama bin Laden’s ‘Letter to the American people’, as reported in the Observer on Sunday 24 November 2002. The document, which was published here on the same day, was removed on 15 November 2023.”
Netizens Question Move
Many netizens shared the screenshot of the website on social media X and questioned the British daily’s decision to take down the article. A user wrote, “It's incredibly odd for to me that ‘A Letter to America’ penned by bin Laden was removed from The Guardian today. This letter was printed on their site in 2002 and removed after TikTokers started to examine it due to his mention of Israel and Palestine.”
Tumblr media
Another user asked why the letter was removed from the site and wrote, “Letter to America is trending, so I went to pull it up. The guardian just removed the document. Osama bin Laden’s letter to America starts trending on Twitter, and The Guardian immediately removes it from their archive?”
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the UK outlet told TheWrap, “The transcript published on our website 20 years ago has been widely shared on social media without the full context. Therefore we have decided to take it down and direct readers to the news article that originally contextualised it instead.”

" 𝐈’𝐌 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐁𝐄𝐒𝐓 𝐀𝐒𝐒𝐀𝐒𝐒𝐈𝐍 𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐑𝐄 𝐈𝐒. 𝐈’𝐌 𝐍𝐎𝐓 𝐆𝐎𝐎𝐃 𝐀𝐓 𝐀𝐍𝐓𝐇𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐄𝐗𝐂𝐄𝐏𝐓 𝐀𝐒𝐒𝐀𝐒𝐒𝐈𝐍𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍. "
Was that [LIU SHISHI]? Oh no no, that was just [REN RUYI], a [CANON CHARACTER] from [A JOURNEY TO LOVE]. They are [TWENTY NINE] years old, use [SHE/HER], and [ARE NOT] aware that they are not actually from Washington DC. Too bad they can’t stray from this city for long.
Tumblr media
how long has your character been here?
ruyi believes she first came to washington at 8 when she was adopted. from 18 to now she's come back on & off in between assignments. november 2023 is her official return to dc after being burned.
what is your character's job?
she worked in a secret division of the cia; recruited due to her language skills & the multitude of other skills she was proficient in due to her adopted parents' desire for perfection. her work involved infiltrating and, if need be, eliminating anyone she is told to.
but that's all in the past... she's been burned & now living out her retired life here. she's planning to open up a martial arts / sword dancing academy (so ending up teaching after all)
edit 4/16/24: ruyi’s going to open a combat academy. it’ll focus on swordsmanship. it'll also offer stage combat lessons for any theater/actor muses.
where has your character been pulled from in their fandom?
i'm pulling her from what i dub as 'the betrayal'. i've only ever binged the show, so i don't know the exact episode atm. i want to say episode 15? basically when the gang of unruly fools find out her identity & turn on her & she escaped but was so severely injured that she was on the brink of death.
has any magic affected your character?
aside from the loss of memories, no.
anything else? (abuse, death, murder mention tw)
you can find more info here & on this forum entry here.
a more detailed background of her life in dc growing up can be found in the link above.
her unaware life is similar to that of her canon one, just modernized.
(( && ngl i did research on the cia & basically decided to do tv!cia vs real life cia; so this secret division is pretty much based on division from nikita & her firing is based on burn notice-ish))
some quotes—
"flying flowers and falling leaves can kill people too." ((she says after slicing her enemy's neck with a leaf))
"no one knows better than me when to act."
"my father wanted to remarry and thought i was a burden, so he sold me to the crimson guard. i was only worth 1,000 coins."
"most of the women of the crimson guard can't live over 30. it'll be the end for me soon."
"i remember the face of the purple messenger who took me away to become a white sparrow when i was seven. my father bought me a sugar figurine. she asked someone to take me away and crushed that sugar figurine in front of me. then, she whipped me 31 times."
might add more if i remember to mark episodes in my next rewatch.
but just know she is a badass assassin who holds grudges and is quite sentimental.
wanted connections.
small plea for any & all canon characters to be brought in. i can offer you nothing except my undying love, angst!!!, a million musings on my sideblog, and the occasional crappy edit.
all of the fake life connections!
sparring/boxing partners
will eventually send in wanted connections for this, but would really love to expand this division-like cia circle so hmu if there's any interest ! also just other cia connections as well as the person who burned her.
more connection ideas can be found on muse page.

By the ringfence, AIPP is a full utility company in the entire value chain of power business including generation, distribution and marketing. Geometric AIPP is the Bank’s recognized power partner for Enyimba Economic City, with which it has signed a 90MW Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for First Phase of Enyimba Economic City. The intermodal logistics, road, rail, airport and seaports is also planned to make Enyimba Economic City “The Strategic Global Business Hub in Africa” and African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) compliant. It is noteworthy that Enyimba Economic City won the first prize of the Global New Cities Business Plan Contest of the Chartered Cities Institute in Washington DC in 2019, beating Black Stone Charter City in Australia to second prize and Novgorod New Hanse Town in Russia to third place, as a new city that has the capacity to transform the economy of the country. The award included a US$25,000 cash prize. Enyimba Economic City Development Company FZE has started to build marketing teams by engaging zone marketing/FDI Companies in India (Crescendo Worldwide), China (Brilliance Co. Limited) and Nigeria (Commodities Development Initiative). There are a total 127 manufacturing leads from the 3 territories currently. The project is planned to be launched by Q2 of 2024. Once again, congratulations to our esteemed partners, Geometric AIPP, their indefatigable Chairman, Prof Bart Nnaji and Governor of Abia State, His Excellency, Alex Otti. JOURNAL ENTRY #77 Name: Manley M Collins Social Security Number: 5 7 9 – * * – 6 5 4 1 Date of Birth: 06/21 Place of Birth: Washington, District of Columbia Country of Birth: United States of America Date: January 1, 2024
TOPIC: Massachusetts Tries to Charge the Same Crime as New York, but no victim, No Five (5) W's - Who, What, When, Why, Where and How, No Restraining or Protective Orders…But Did Some Eastern Housing Court and Massachusetts State Police backhanded sht. Massachusetts did not speak to South Carolina, Georgia, Washington, DC, or Maryland on what the physical side of me does on Bullsht.
Caucasian, European White Male State Trooper does me the African-American black guy…systemic racism.
Referral for Public Defender Criminal Justice Institute at Harvard University - 6174968143 Stated Not Picking up any more caseload because of the end of the year.
Harvard Defenders 6174954413 Called before and spoke with male who made it seems like they were going to represent me.
I called about my arraignment notice and they gave me referrals, and mentioned they needed to be at the original hearing.
Also, they stated to go to the Boston Municipal Court Clerk's office and request to be appointed a public defender.
Committee for Public Counsel Services website 6174826212 Gave the best advice to answer the judge question requesting a public defender - Answer the question - Yes
Out of 47+ of my civil or criminal cases, I was never asked by a judge or clerk regarding my personal details of a vacation or anyday to set a court date. Eastern Housing Court personnel went outside their job responsiblities when a court date landed on my South Carolina vacation. Here is the letter addressed to the clerk. I also sent internal and external complaints for every police report I filed and the one the state trooper filed. The application and complaint is coming out of Boston Municipal Court at 24 New Chardon Street, 6th Floor, Boston, MA 02114. No US Mail envelope or email receipt was not produced on how the State Trooper got the Motion of Continuance without my personal details.
Boston Police Detective Keith P. Kaplan mentioned I can use any colorful language including profanity for self-defense, just no active shooter content given the current environment. Boston Police Officer Natasha Lajara agreed and talked with me also.
I was able to send approximately twenty (20) criminal applications back to Massachusetts on the people and organizations that did me since August 2020. It feels real good for therapy in handling my issues. I also sent a big civil case involving the federal, state, and city government for the incident.
My adrenaline is very high daily and I am pushing more weight than my personal record. I spent New Year's Eve and New Year's Day all day workouts and sore as hell.

Friday, November 17, 2023
Alex Valderrama Clerk of Eastern Housing Court of Massachusetts Edward W. Brooke Courthouse 24 New Chardon Street 3rd Floor Boston, MA 02114 USA
Dear Mr. Valderrama,
It was a pleasure speaking with you today, 11/17/2023 approximately 10:00 am. I am the African-American male that is a part of Collins vs SplitSpot case and Collins vs Pine Street Inn case.
The issue is with the Collins vs SplitSpot case. I was speaking with a latino woman regarding the case. The case had hearing dates. I have not been getting all the notifications on the case. The October 2023 hearing mailed to me, but no information on date being change. The November 2023 date was issued on my personal vacation week. I came in person on October 2023 hearing date thinking it was a hearing. The latino woman informed me the hearing was moved to November 2023. I informed the latino woman November 2023 date falls on my personal vacation or I will be out-of-town. The latino woman asked for a written Motion of Continuance. The latino woman illegally asked for personal information about the personal vacation to submit with my Motion of Continuance. I told her, “No.” I do not want to provide that information. [HINDSIGHT/HIDDEN THOUGHT: Post traumatic stress disorder and schizophrenia from New York City incident.] However, the latino woman said she would follow up with a phone call or approval letter from the Judge. A whole week and a half went by with no phone call or letter follow up before my approaching vacation. Thus, out of anger, I submitted an electronic copy of Motion of Continuance with consequences if my personal information is misused in any way reflecting back to New York City incident. I have physically purchased my Paris 2024 Olympic tickets, waiting for my volunteer to Paris 2024 Olympic games application results, have obtained my United States passport, reserved my French lodging, and purchased my AirFrance tickets from Boston Logan to Charles De Gaulle airport.
Massachusetts repeated the same situation just like the New York City incident. Someone from your office extracted from the electronic Motion of Continuance’s only the portion with the consequence of wrongful misuse of my personal information and sent it the Massachusetts State Trooper Joseph A. Middleton, #1544 (250 Leverett Circle, Boston, MA 02114) on October 5, 2023. An application for Criminal Complaint was made by Boston Municipal Court. I had the initial hearing today, November 17, 2023 at 9 am.
Yesterday, November 16, 2023, I spoke with a white male Caucasian about the incident and requested how to make a grievance, and “Was it in their job responsibilities to ask for personal information to change a court hearing date?” Friday, November 17, 2023, I spoke with you for more details.
Your question: “Whether I want you to respond and how to resolve this?” Since the cop Joseph A. Middleton, State Trooper #1544 (250 Leverett Circle, Boston, MA 02114) is taking the fall. I want you to respond via phone call to me at (617) 955-0689 with a written letter follow up to 198 Tremont St, Suite 335, Boston, MA 02116 USA.
How to resolve this: While my application for felony threat to commit a crime is being processed, then I want the latino woman on administrative leave with pay.
My next hearing is January 4, 2024 in front of a judge, if my case goes public and the charge becomes public costing me all my freedoms, independence, Paris 2024 Olympics and relocation to France, my employment opportunities, public assistance benefits, housing opportunities, educational opportunities along with already obtained four business degrees, and everything else, then I am requesting the latino woman to be fully terminated without benefits and severance pay.
I still have the housing cases to proceed with, but please make sure she avoids me at all costs. I have no problem requesting someone else like I did today. Please do not share any additional personal details with the latino woman or anyone outside this letter other than your supervisor, director, attorney general, or mayor. Thanks for your attention to this matter. Looking forward to hearing from you and your team.
Regards, Dr. Manley M. Collins, BS, MS, MBA, DM/PhD Plaintiff Pro Se (617) 955-0689

I met my BCBS new primary care physician at Boston Medical Center. I got my Monobivalent COVID-19 booster and tested for HIV/STD panel. I also got refills on my medications, Banophen, Zyprexa, and Truvada. I met the preceptor over the resident doctor. I went back to BMC Psychiatry to attempt to re-establish care. Unfortunately, after six months or more disconnect, I have to get a referral from my PCP. My BMC BCBS PCP mentioned Psychology Today was a good resource for therapists. I did make the recommended two or three calls to connect with a therapist or psychologist in my area. My initial HIV test came out negative - HIV Ag/Ab Combined Qualitative - Result Non-Reactive. My basic metabolic panel came out on the normal ranges. My Calcium was 9.3 mg/dl (normal range 8-10.5 mg/dl). My CO2 was 22.0 mmol/l (normal range 19-28 mmol/l). My Chloride was 108 mmol/l (normal range 98-110 mmol/l). My Glucose was 85 mg/dl (normal range 70-100 mg/dl). My Potassium was 4.3 mmol/l (normal range 3.1-5.3 mmol/l). My Sodium was 136 mmol/l (normal range 135-145 mmol/l). My Urea Nitrogen (BUN) was 10 mg/dl (normal range 7-25 mg/dl). My Creatinine was 0.95 mg/dl (normal range is 0.7-1.3 mg/dl). My Estimated GFR value was >90 mL/min/1.73_m2 (normal value >59 mL/min/1.73_m2). My anion gap without potassium was 6 (normal range is 7-16). I weighed 171 lbs (77.8 kg) with all my layered clothing on. My blood pressure was 115/74. My body mass index is 27.71. My temperature is 97.6 F (36.4 Celsius). My oxygen saturation is 99%. My pulse is 51.
GymIt had the special needs people clean the equipment or gym areas under supervision. It is a neat idea to employ or utilize the mental and physically challenged.
CVS Pharmacy is fantastic as usual with my refills and those variety of coupons keep me in the store.
General Motors is fighting back and forth to clear its name in the Collins vs Kyambade et al., case.
Christmas and Kwanzaa was nice at my AirBnb for the winter. My superhost was amazing and surprising me on AirBnb features and highly physically active in his 70s. We had discussions regarding on Boston's real estate, eating and drinking the best foods to stay healthy, giving wars, our family history, providing boundaries and space, having meals together, similar train of thought that family can be the people currently physically surrounding us, house chores, and house rules. I am so surprised that it took four years after and during all the fighting, and at the time I am leaving that the Greater Boston area decides to show hospitality from a Harvard graduate/alumnus.
South Carolina Vacation
South Carolina State University Bulldogs Die Hard Supportive Fans was sitting, and weathering the cold and rain, and watching the SCSU Bulldogs 17 vs Morgan State 20 last home game. I stayed all four quarters. It was Band Day and Buddy Pough Day. I still took my photos in the rain and frozen hands. I ate a chili and cheese hot dog and did a special request to add jalapenos. Belcher Hall is the School of Business and where I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Agribusiness. I also pledged Phi Beta Lambda Business Fraternity.
South Carolina State University Meet and Greet Alumni Event started without a hitch and on time. Great location and venue. SCSU Alumni Relations planned a very good event. I had a good time getting to know some of the alums and fraternity brothers. The DJ was jamming. The bartender was doing the drinks…you might get a little tipsy. I only had cranberry-orange juice. I can't do alcohol. Thanks, SCSU Alumni Relations. I tried to watch the SCSUNAA Alumni Stellar Calendar event on FaceBook, but disconnected since I am not in it. Good times traveling down Russell Street and down US 301 to try to see Cross High versus Allendale-Fairfax High School - SC High School Football Playoffs.
The day and the life of a substitute teacher. I had 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 9th through 12th. Thanks for the opportunities - Reeves Elementary, Beech Hill Elementary, Sand Hill Elementary, Newington Elementary, and Ashley Ridge High. I learned some new methods on managing kids, getting work out of them, build in positive reinforcement, and masking punishment. For the younger kids, the emoji stick 😐 😐 face destroys their whole world if they do not get a smiley face at the end of the day. For older teens, the importance of respecting a substitute teacher when over 50% of the class decides to use the restroom, go to office, go to media center, or recover a lost item. I was happy to start introducing a one-by-one concept of line and numbering each of them.
Spent quality time with a dear friend Darron Denmark . You really do not know someone unless you physically and literally spend time with them. Good times…parallel lives and three intersections…two in Atlanta, Georgia and one in Columbia, SC. Thanks for your service, Mr. Denmark. Much love ❤️🥰🖤💚, my strong brother.
South Carolina State University Homecoming Week 2023 is in the books. The football game was a nail biter to the end - SCSU 27 vs Howard 24. The SCSU Marching 101 band was larger and played beautifully. The guest band Jonesboro Georgia High School Marching Band. The scoreboard played nice and loud. ESPN got the HBCU show of a great time. The classic chants played, old school music, and new school music played throughout the entire time at the game. The cheerleaders had great spirit and large group, but it was a shame to remain only on one side or section when the past cheerleader groups took school spirit on all appropriate sections. I visited Beta Delta of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. tailgate tent and ran into Ogunna and Pugh, and met a new brother Wes, and saw Terry Holmes. I never reached SCSU Track and Field tailgate. I ran into more classmates and good peoples. I attempted to get a photo with The Honorable James Clyburn. The Clyburn cameraman could not take the photo on a smartphone after two tries, but I got to shake his hand and see him in person after 28 years when I personally visited his office in Washington, DC in 1995. For President Conyers, I shook his hand, but he did not know me so I can understand brushing off someone you do not know or heard of in taking a photo. Bulldogs on the Run was a great success and running into my Freshman year roommate and classmate, Andrew Lawton and my SCSU track and field teammates, Linnell Cooper and Donald Cooper, and the family. I ate my first Lawton's Chicken Sausage biscuit I came in 5th in my age group for Bulldogs on the Run. Thanks Nike+ for the encouragement per mile. It was my very first outside run in the cold since SCSU Men's Track and Field practices. Coach Jeffries gave me my 30 second conversation and a cherished photo. It was good for my mental health with all the love, excitement, and laughter shared among my peoples. I ran into Mrs. Heyward, Cross High Librarian, and a Ravenell brother from Pineville, South Carolina. I found Planet Fitness and walked through the Prince of Orange Mall.
Another eventful day at SCSU Homecoming. I picked up my race packet for Bulldogs on the Run from some classmates. It was good getting some Randolph Italian Ice. I went on campus of South Carolina State University to check out the student center and student plaza. I captured some of the memories of The Dungeon in Dukes Gymnasium from 5am and 6am gym workout for SCSU Track and Field. I saw a women's volleyball game going on in Dukes Gymnasium. I took some photos of the Whittaker Library and Alpha Phi Alpha shrine. My last event was the SCSU S.T.A.T.E. Club Fish Fry Cookout on Felton Field.
It has been 25 years stepping back into Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Arena on the campus of South Carolina State University. Quite a few physical changes to the campus. Congratulations to New tradition of Mister South Carolina State University and the long time standing tradition of Miss South Carolina State University. A flood of memories of giving speeches, sport games, classes, and dancing at that facility. Miss SCSU JaMelia Baylor-Stroud, Sam Hinton, and I chuckled over the good times and kept critiquing our generation versus today's generation. Beta Delta of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. started the stepping or stroll to the current theme song. They were lit. Go Bulldogs! 1896. Congratulations to all the Kings and Queens, and their supporters.
One major change is the tailgating has gotten so big that I missed the social component. JaMelia did call and ask where was I while I was driving back to my hotel, but the old times when SCSU had a game, the day just ended with the game and I thought everyone just pack up and gone home. This was not the case. A definite lesson learned from SCSU Homecoming.
I went to HearUSA as a part of a contractual benefit with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts. When healthcare insurance provides hearing screening as a benefit…wow! Thank God I still can hear after all the loud noises from warehouse work, partying and nightclub, family and friends arguments, EMS and anything with a siren. No raising hands to say I can hear, I have to yell out the words from inside sound box.
I went to Studio Optics for my second vision examine. We, the doctor and I, went through the various glasses. I made my selection and order, but the doctor is simply waiting for payment to place the order.
I renewed my membership with USA Track and Field Association and Potomac Valley Track Club.
The United States Department of Defense (Department of the Navy) closed the federal tort claim and stated to sue in the federal court.
I had my Boston Housing Authority Public Housing final interview. Rosanna Ramirez stated they needed more information and updated information to state I am eligible for public housing. I sent them Citibank information because they were apart of the problem. I sent them a 110 page legal document showing my housing for the past 2.5 years and everything that happened. I stopped showing any income. I signed a release of information document for Massachusetts Department of Transitional Assistance and Pine Street Inn. The young lady still requesting up-to-date banking, income, and housing information. I asked her, "Who is seeing all these documents or show me the information system this information is going in?" She lied and said, "Only her and her supervisor." Tell me I am crazy for sending all my personal and professional information to the fourth BHA employee. I do not know where my information is stored or being sent. The property is not brand new, no amentities, no assurance of security, none of BHA is my friends or family, and still have to pay some type of rent on a sliding scale. None of the information from previous interviews and request for information was not even mentioned.
SplitSpot settled their side of the lawsuit for $1400, which is less than what I gave them. I told Ernesto Gaxha to not pull an AT&T situation, which is AT&T went bankrupt, kept the name, and rise as a new company with same name. Ernesto Gaxha, the President and CEO, of SplitSpot gave me courtesy call because the company went bankrupt and riddled in debt, and was bought by another company.
I had my SplitSpot case hearing, which is left with the roommates and the insurance company. I stood my ground and stated, "I oppose the Motion to Dismiss and hold all allegations true to each one of them."
I submitted my United States Department of Education's Total and Permanent Disability Application to discharge my student loans held by Nelnet.
I finally started my new group exercise instructor position at Boston Sports Club/New York Sports Club/Town Sports International. I had my first Zumba class. I shadowed another instructor for Total Body Conditioning. The group exercise manager mentioned needed Les Mills BodyPump instructors. I am torn because my goal was BodyCombat, but the gym wants BodyPump. I am practicing my second full routine of Zumba.
I like the Blue Cross Blue Shield referral request system on HMO plans. I finally understand how it works.
I followed the Paris 2024 Volunteer Instagram. I got a response to volunteer application and got accepted for the 2024 Paris, France Olympics and Paralympics.
I joined a Zoom call with the Alpha Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. regarding the Alpha Light Fund and Alpha House being built in Ithaca, New York.
With data breaches, a company called WellTok informed of Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) data breach. As a part of proactivity, they offered and I signed up for the Experian IdentityWorks product and service.
I got rejected or turned down by Paris 2024 employment staff, it seems in part with Randstad of France. I guess it was because I was not legally authorized to work in France without living there.
I had to process plenty of US mail when I returned from my South Carolina vacation.
I am responding to all the motions to dismiss, which taking plenty of time.
I am still getting most of my physical workouts in for stress and anger management.
December 16th was a decent day until a tall and large kid that do not run the 200m dash trips and rolled right in my lane 2. My final time was 29s, when I was on pace for 26s chasing kids down. The TRACK at New Balance USATF New England Indoor Season Opener never a dull moment.
December 26th was okay at the New Balance USATF Night at the Track. I registered and ran the 60m like I stated my time 8.82s. I was bloated with food, fruit, and drink. My body must think it is still on vacation…the pounds are trying to creep back on. I had to set my alarms again to begin waking up at 5:30 AM EST.

Coming up Gigs and concerts of this week to go!
Tumblr media
Music lovers, get ready to rock on. Music is the one and only mental feed that can calm your mind through all the stress. This week's WhatsOn editorial Tama has compiled a list of the largest music festivals and shows taking place around the globe that you may attend. 1. When We Were Young (festival) When & where: On Saturday in 2022, Avril Lavigne, Paramore, and My Chemical Romance will perform When We Were Young (October 29) Las Vegas Festival Grounds, United States of America 12:00 on Saturday, October 29, 2022 The event's first announcement stated that it will take place on October 22, 2022, for one day only. Due to the high demand for tickets, more days on October 23 and 29 2022 were added. The festival made the announcement that it would be back for a second time in 2023 with Blink-182 and Green Day as its headliners on October 11, 2022. The lineup for When We Were Young 2022 is HERE! With My Chemical Romance, Paramore, Bright Eyes, AFI, the Used, Bring Me The Horizon, Boys Like Girls, Avril Lavigne, Dashboard Confessional, We the Kings, Alkaline Trio, Manchester Orchestra, Dance Gavin Dance, the All-American Rejects, Anberlin, 3OH!3, Atreyu, the Ready Set, Jimmy Eat World, La Dispute, the Wonder Years, Hawthorne Heights, Car Seat Headrest, and more. 2. Lindsey Buckingham Tour: Fall 2022 Tour One of his generation's most original and compelling musicians is Lindsey Buckingham. The seven studio albums and three live albums he has recorded as a solo artist, starting with 1981's Law and Order and going through 2021's Lindsey Buckingham, his first solo album since 2011's Seeds We Sow, highlight his ear for melody and his distinctive fingerpicking guitar approach. The new album was praised for having "all the recognizable elements of his sound: melodic hooks, intricate production, multilayered vocals, and shimmering guitar" and was named one of the year's top 10 albums by Entertainment Weekly and Newsweek, respectively. It was described as "a California pop-rock meditation that draws on his Golden State roots and probes what Buckingham knows best: the intricacies of relationships" and on a 2021 North American tour, during which Glide praised his live guitar playing as “captivating and flawless.” WED, OCT 26> PARAMOUNT CENTER FOR THE ARTS, BRISTOL, TNRSVPNOTIFY ME THU, OCT 27> THE KENTUCKY CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS, LOUISVILLE, KYRSVPTICKETS SAT, OCT 29> HOYT SHERMAN PLACE, DES MOINES, IARSVPTICKETS MON, OCT 31> PABLO CENTER AT THE CONFLUENCE, EAU CLAIRE, WIRSVPTICKETS 3. The best of the best....
WASHINGTON, DC (January 17, 2020) -- The United States Navy formally announced the name of it’s next Ford-class nuclear-powered supercarrier to be funded and built: USS Doris Miller (CVN 81).
The ship will honor Messman Third Class Doris Miller, USN....who received the Navy Cross for his heroism during the December 7, 1941 Imperial Japanese Navy attack on Pearl Harbor.
Petty Officer Miller effectively manned anti-aircraft guns -- for which he had had no training -- and tended to the many wounded. For his actions, he was recognized with the highest Naval Service honor. He was the first African-American to receive the Navy Cross.
Petty Officer Miller, nicknamed “Dorie” by his shipmates and friends, did not survive World War II. He lost his life at age 24 while serving aboard aircraft delivery ship USS Liscome Bay (ACV/CVE-56). His ship was sunk by the Japanese in November 1943 near the Gilbert Islands in the Pacific....with the loss of 644 crew members.
The brand-new supercarrier will be the second ship to bear his name....the first being the now-decommissioned frigate USS Miller (FF-1091).

Images at the top of this post: That’s Petty Officer Miller....as if eyeing the world’s most advanced warship that will soon bear his name....and to be inspired by his heroism and devotion to duty and mission.
(If you look real close, that’s actually an artists’s conception of sister-carrier USS Enterprise (CVN 80) pictured up top.....but USS Doris Miller (CVN 81) will look the same. The artists haven’t had a chance to picture the ship yet.)
                                            *          *          *          *
USS Doris Miller (CVN 81) is now funded....scheduled to begin construction in 2023....launched in 2028....and commissioned in 2030. The warship will join the Fleet soon thereafter as the most advanced and lethal warship ever built by man.
Yeah....the best of the best....all around!
                                         __________________________
>>Note: For perspective, the status of the rest of the Ford-class supercarriers so far:
USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78) -- in commission....undergoing testing and evaluation of her state-of-the-art mechanical, electronic and digital systems at sea....expected to be ready for full active-duty in the next year or so.

Philippines Suspends Visa Upon Arrival Service for Chinese Nationals
Tumblr media
Philippines' Bureau of Immigration (BI) has confirmed that the visa upon arrival (VUA) service has been temporarily suspended for Chinese nationals. The decision, made over concerns of the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV), follows the lockdown of several cities in China in an effort to contain the virus. “The Civil Aeronautics Board has already suspended direct flights from Wuhan province,” said BI Commissioner, Jaime Morente. “We are now temporarily suspending the issuance of VUA for Chinese nationals to slow down the influx of group tours.”
Tumblr media
The VUA service is often used by Chinese tour groups, and many other nationalities, visiting Philippines as it saves the hassle of having to get a visa before travelling. A similar move was done by Taiwan Immigration authorities, who, according to an article by the Taipei Times, cancelled permits for 429 people in 24 tour groups from Wuhan, China. orente has however clarified that there is no order barring Chinese nationals from entering the country. “We have not received any directive imposing policy changes on Chinese nationals,” said Morente. “But we are taking this proactive measure to slow down travel, and possibly help prevent the entry of the 2019-nCov into the country.” “It is the Bureau of Quarantine who conducts monitoring of arriving passengers to see if they are manifesting symptoms of the corona virus. They have put up measures in place to strictly check arriving passengers,” Morente added. “They have been very active in giving out information to frontline port personnel on how to prevent the transmission of the virus, given the risk of direct contact with possible carriers.” At press time, 106 people had died of the virus in China and there were 4,535 confirmed nCoV cases in the country and 52 outside of China. 10 To Watch : Mayor’s Edition 11419
RICK HORROW’S TOP 10 SPORTS/BIZ/TECH/PHILANTHROPY ISSUES FOR THE WEEK OF NOVEMBER 4 : MAYOR’S EDITION
with Jacob Aere
Fully 14.8% of all World Series ads focused on giving back and corporate social responsibility. There were more advocacy and corporate social responsibility ads aired during the first four games of the World Series than any other type of ad outside of auto makers, according to data from Advertising Analytics, a strategy firm that specializes in political and issues advertising. The World Series attracted mostly defense, enterprise technology, and healthcare ads. While this was a departure from typical sports championships, in which consumer package goods and retail ads typically dominate, Axios noted World Series games in DC presented a juicy opportunity for brands to “reach Washington decision-makers in a casual environment. While many marquee advertisers sponsor events around Washington DC, there are few games that will have as high of an impact and as engaged of an audience as a World Series that includes a Washington team.” As the hyper-political environment in Washington becomes more contentious, companies are pressured to take a stand on more issues than they have in the past – and this is reflected in their marketing initiatives. Expect this trend to continue at least through the 2020 election cycle.
A college players' rights group has entered into a partnership with the NFL Players Association to explore how to maximize name, image, and likeness rights. A day before the NCAA announcement last week, the NFLPA and National College Players Association (NCPA) announced jointly that the partnership will "explore opportunities for" college athletes in merchandise, gaming, licensed products, and "how recent developments impact television broadcast revenues in pursuit of fairness." California's Fair Pay to Play Act granting college athletes in that state the ability to profit off their name, image, and likeness goes into effect in 2023. A similar bill has been proposed in Florida, but it would go into effect far sooner—July 1, 2020. A Pennsylvania bill is expected to be introduced soon. Were college players able to unionize in a similar fashion to the way NFL players are able to collectively bargain, it would put even more pressure on the NCAA to craft new rules that give student athletes the same rights that all their classmates on campus currently enjoy.
Premier League Primary Stars USA visits Austin elementary school for soccer-themed learning. On October 25, Austin, Texas elementary school students worked side-by-side with Premier League stars during a soccer-themed educational experience. Premier League, the top level of the English soccer league system and EVERFI, a leader in driving social change through technology and education, recently joined forces to bring an interactive soccer-themed education program to students at Perez Elementary School in Austin. The event was part of the Premier League Primary Stars USA program, an educational initiative focused on health and wellness and social and emotional learning skills. Representatives from the Premier League and associated pro soccer clubs led a digital learning session, a hands-on soccer skills clinic, and a school-wide assembly centered on areas of critical emotional development. Perez students also engaged with visiting soccer stars, met mascots from four Premier League clubs, and saw the iconic Premier League trophy. On hand for the event were Premier League star winger and ambassador Shaun Wright-Phillips, EVERFI Global CMO Brian Cooley, Congressman Lloyd Doggett, and youth coaches from clubs including Aston Villa, Liverpool, Manchester City, and Wolverhampton.
Kansas City, here we come. Our “Power of Sports” program heads to Kansas City this month, highlighting community outreach programs, culturally significant sites, and people who have made a difference through sports. This month, host Rick Horrow visits the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum to speak with President Bob Kendrick about the 100th anniversary of the formation of the Negro Leagues coming up next year and the museum’s role in the celebration and in the community. He also checks in on two of the Kansas City Royals’ youth outreach programs: Royalty Fields grants and a recurring Special Olympics clinic, and hears from James McGinnis, a high school football player from the KC Metro, who suffered a traumatic brain injury and used the Chiefs’ success last season to motivate his recovery. Our Game Changer segment features an interview with former NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue filmed in early October at a Sport Business Handbook contributor symposium hosted by EVERFI at their Washington, DC headquarters
The Orlando Magic have "filed an updated master plan" for their downtown Orlando Sports + Entertainment District that is "expected to more than double" the original $200 million project budget. According to the Orlando Sentinel, the mixed-use district will be built "starting next year on 8.4 acres across from Amway Center." Magic Chief Communications Officer Joel Glass said the project will now cost "well over" $500 million. The district will "contain nearly 110,000 square feet of retail space, a conference center hotel with 80,000 square feet of event space, offices, apartments and a 2,500-space parking garage." The updated plan maintains the original concept from 2018 but "increases the number of hotel rooms by 50 and more than doubles the amount of office space from the original 200,000 square feet to 420,000 square feet." District Director Pat Gallagher said that the office tower "would now rise to 18 stories, which includes the ground-floor retail, multilevel parking structure and commercial office space." The Sentinel notes the Magic's new headquarters "would occupy 40,000 square feet in the office tower,” or close to 10%.
Unsung World Series winner this year:  Palm Beach County, FL.  The most publicized “first” this year involves the visiting team winning every World Series game.  However, maybe one of the most important economic “firsts” is the first time the World Series finalists shared a Spring Training facility:  the FITTEAM Ballpark of the Palm Beaches.  The 7,700-seat stadium also features six practice fields each for the Washington Nationals and the Houston Astros.  The 160-acre site also includes a 1.8 mile public walk trail and other facilities.  The Palm Beach County Sports Commission touts the facility as a major economic generator for the county, as it also hosts over 1,400 youth and tournament baseball games each year.  Look for a series of major announcements by the county and sports commission over the next two months.
San Diego State is now offering the city of San Diego $87.7 million for Mission Valley stadium site. San Diego State University is "now offering to pay" the city $19.5 million more than before to purchase the Mission Valley stadium property formerly occupied by the Chargers. According to the letter delivered last Monday to San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer, SDSU's new offer is $87.7 million, which consists of a "revised purchase price" of $86.2 million for 135 acres of land, plus an estimated $1.5 million to "account for a portion of the site's appreciation" since 2017. In addition, SDSU is "proposing to take over the portion" of Murphy Canyon Creek immediately adjacent to the site "without requiring the city to pay for any past-due maintenance,” according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. The news comes as SDSU cracked the Associated Press college football Top 25 for the first time in many years (they are now #24), an achievement that should aid local enthusiasm for the SDSU West project, as a new football/soccer stadium is part of the master plan.
Parisian soccer club PSG goes green with Gaussin transport deal. According to SportsPro, French soccer giant Paris Saint-Germain has signed a strategic partnership with the Gaussin Group for the supply of self-driving, 100% electric vehicles for public transport and goods transport. The long-term agreement includes equipment for all of the Ligue 1 champions’ infrastructure, including their new training complex which will open its doors in 2022. The deal also falls in line with PSG’s ambition to utilize innovations in sustainable development and autonomous mobility, especially with regard to the practice facility as it bids to become the first recognized Smart City in sports. The Gaussin Group will initially undertake research to understand where to best deploy its autonomous and electric mobility solutions before rolling out its products where it best suits the needs of the club. This deal marks a movement for sports franchises to be more environmentally conscious of their off-field impacts.
Philadelphia 76ers’ Tobias Harris donates $1 million to charities. According to 247 Sports, Harris announced a combined donation of $1 million to assist nine different charities in Philadelphia. He announced the charities and the dollar amount for each during a community draft at a local elementary school. The benefitting organizations include the Center for Black Educator Development which received $300,000; Read by 4th was given $200,000; The Fund for the School District of Philadelphia, the Foundation for Orange County Public Schools, and Legends Academy were all given $100,000; World Literacy Foundation and True Love Missions each received $75,000; and both WUFSD Wynadanch Memorial High School and Team Up Philly were given $25,000. Although Harris was traded just eight months ago from the Los Angeles Clippers, the basketball star seems to be investing heavily in the youth of Philadelphia, a city facing a major teacher shortage and in which two-thirds of third graders can’t read at grade level.
Call of Duty League launches in January, 2020.  According to BusinessWire, Activision Blizzard Esports announced the inaugural season of the Call of Duty League will begin with the Call of Duty League Launch Weekend at the Minneapolis Armory January 24-26, 2020. The event will be hosted by Minnesota Røkkr, which is the Call of Duty League team operated by WISE Ventures Esports, under the ownership of the Minnesota Viking owner Wilf family and tech investor Gary Vaynerchuk. The league will feature all 12 of the professional Call of Duty League teams competing across three days, and the opening weekend will feature additional fan and player experiences to celebrate the launch of Activision Blizzard Esports’ highly anticipated new city-based league. In a concept that should appeal to traditional sports fans, the Call of Duty League follows a home-vs-away format with 5-versus-5 professional match play. Throughout the season, each team will host “Home Series” weekends in their market, with multiple pro teams competing at each which will draw in crowds to take part in the events and participate in one of the most far-reaching video game series ever created.

Sen. John McCain, 81, announced his decision to discontinue treatment for the brain cancer he’s been battling for more than a year on Friday, making clear that the Arizona Republican is unlikely to return to the Senate. Attention has now turned to the process for replacing McCain in the legislative body in which he’s spent so much of his career.
The former Navy pilot, Vietnam prisoner of war, and Republican presidential nominee has spent 30 years in the United States Senate. It’s not clear by Friday’s statement how long he has left to live, or if he will step down as his health declines, but it’s likely that Arizona’s governor will be in a position to tap someone to take over his seat at some point in the future.
Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey, a Republican, is legally required to fill vacancies in Arizona’s US Senate delegation. Whoever Ducey chooses will stay in office until 2020.
The governor has remained silent on who he has in mind out of respect for McCain and his family. By Arizona state law, he must tap someone of the same party as McCain — meaning a Republican — and he’s ruled himself out. After McCain’s announcement on Friday, Ducey lauded the ailing senator as an “American hero” who has always put the country before himself. “From Vietnam to the halls of the US Senate, the spirit of service and civility that has guided Sen. McCain’s life stands as a model for all Americans, regardless of political affiliation,” he said.
But with primary races in Arizona set for Tuesday and Republicans holding a slim 51-49 majority in the US Senate, whispers about who will replace McCain have grown louder.
My family is deeply appreciative of all the love and generosity you have shown us during this past year. Thank you for all your continued support and prayers. We could not have made it this far without you – you’ve given us strength to carry on. pic.twitter.com/KuAQSASoa7
— Meghan McCain (@MeghanMcCain) August 24, 2018
Had McCain left office before May 30, his Senate seat would have been on the ballot in Arizona in November 2018. His junior colleague, Republican Sen. Jeff Flake, has already announced he’s retiring, meaning both of Arizona’s seats would have been up for grabs.
But since it’s after May 30, it will likely be Ducey who picks the replacement. There’s nothing in the state’s constitution that allows for a special election after that date, as Amber Phillips at the Washington Post explains:
Election officials told The Washington Post in the spring that there was the possibility of a legal battle to try to hold a special election in 2018 for McCain’s seat, even if candidates have to file after that May 30 deadline.
“If there was a vacancy today and we made a decision on ‘yes, call a special election’ or ‘no, [don’t] call a special election’ . . . there is a 99.9 percent chance that litigation would ensue,” said Eric Spencer, election services director in the office of Arizona Secretary of State Michele Reagan, a Republican.
But that was closer to May. Now a federal election is just months away, and no matter what happens to McCain’s seat in the coming days or weeks or months, it seems very probable it won’t be on the ballot again until 2020.
So, Ducey would pick a replacement who would serve at least until 2020, the next general election. And the winner of that election would serve the rest of McCain’s six-year term, which ends after the 2022 election, so in January 2023. The replacement has to be a Republican, like McCain.
Members of the GOP are likely breathing a sigh of relief that both of Arizona’s US Senate spots won’t be in limbo, since the contest to take Flake’s seat is expected to be a contentious one. It’s one of the few opportunities Democrats have to win a senate seat currently held by Republicans in November, with Democrat Kyrsten Sinema consistently polling in the lead ahead of every one of her Republican competitors.
McCain’s resignation or death while in office would mark the first time in Arizona’s more than 100-year history that a governor would have to fill a Senate seat there by appointment. Gov. Ducey has not publicly said who he might consider to take over McCain’s seat, except to say he won’t appoint himself. Ducey’s office has called conjecture about who he might pick “disgraceful.”
That hasn’t stopped the speculation though. Given Republicans have only a 51-seat majority after Democrat Doug Jones’s win in Alabama, every vote counts, and the GOP’s paying attention.
The Arizona Republic listed out a number of names that have been floated as potential appointees to replace McCain. They are:
Cindy McCain, 64, the senator’s wife. She is a philanthropist and businesswoman and could represent her husband’s legacy while pursuing her own priorities in Washington, DC, such as her advocacy against human trafficking.
Kirk Adams, 45, Ducey’s chief of staff and a former state lawmaker. He ran unsuccessfully for Congress in 2012.
Barbara Barrett, 67, chairman of the Aerospace Corporation and former US Ambassador to Finland. She was the first woman Republican to run for governor of Arizona in 1994.
Jon Kyl, 76, who from 1995 to 2013 served alongside McCain in the Senate.
The Arizona Republic also mentions real estate development company president Karrin Taylor, former Rep. John Shadegg, State Treasurer Eileen Klein, and former Rep. Matt Salmon.
One possible contender would have been Republican Rep. Martha McSally, but she is already running for the Senate this year to take Flake’s seat. The other was Dr. Kelli Ward, also running for that seat.
McCain is considered a less reliable Republican vote than many of his colleagues, and whoever replaces him is likely to be more solidly aligned with the rest of the GOP. Ducey is more or less a traditional Republican himself, and he will likely choose someone his party’s leaders would approve of.
Heading into November, that could smooth the road for Republican leaders on some issues as they try to navigate the 51-49 Senate to get judicial and Cabinet nominees approved and other legislation passed.
However, on the big-ticket items — namely, Obamacare repeal or welfare reform — McCain’s replacement might not make much difference.
The problem for reviving the health care debate, for example, is that a Democrat now occupies the formerly Republican-held seat in Alabama and Sens. Susan Collins (R-ME) and Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), who have opposed every repeal plan so far, don’t sound like they want to revisit the issue. Those three alone — plus Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), who opposed the latest iteration of repeal, known as Graham-Cassidy — form an imposing wall for Republican leaders to overcome no matter who fills McCain’s seat.
So on smaller items and appointments, the new Arizona senator could make things a little easier for GOP leaders. But getting any major legislation through a 51-49 Senate in an election year is still going to be tough.
If McCain’s seat doesn’t open up soon, there is a possibility that it won’t be Gov. Ducey who appoints his replacement, as he is up for reelection this year. He is expected to win his primary on Tuesday against Arizona Secretary of State Ken Bennett, who earlier this year found himself in hot water over declarations that he wouldn’t choose Cindy McCain as the senator’s replacement. Ducey will face the winner of the Democratic primary — former Arizona Department of Education official and professor David Garcia, state Sen. Steve Farley, or Kelly Fryer, the CEO of the YWCA Southern Arizona — in November. They’ve all declined to say who they might appoint to McCain’s seat if elected.
Ducey’s approval rating has fallen in recent weeks, and he is facing a tough dynamic with angry and fired-up teachers. Arizona was one of the states with teacher protests, with tens of thousands of teachers marching on the state capitol, demanding better pay. But as the Arizona Republic points out, Ducey has a history of outperforming his poll numbers.
