Season 3 Rewatch Drabbles: 3x13 Witch Hunt

Summary: A series of 100-500 word drabbles to accompany my rewatch of season 3 of Once Upon a Time. There will be a drabble–either a deleted scene, a “fix it” fic or a character musing for each episode of the season. Focus will be on Emma, Henry, the Charmings and Killian–with an emphasis on Captain Swan’s epic love story.

Regina was no stranger to grief–after all, she’d lost both of her parents as well as her first love–but nothing could have prepared her for the overwhelming, all consuming, oppressive grief of losing a child. Granted, Henry wasn’t dead. He was hopefully living a full and happy life with Emma in New York, and that was certainly some comfort, but still the grief of knowing there was no way of ever seeing him again was so crushing she felt like she could barely breathe.

It was the main reason she’d come back to her castle. She just wanted it all to end, and she knew exactly how to do that. Putting herself under a sleeping curse might be extreme, but hey. It was better than living out the next forty or fifty years with this overwhelming sadness.

“Make yourself useful,” she tossed over her shoulder to the man who had followed her like a stray puppy, or perhaps a guard dog.

Regina’s broken heart swooped at the remembrance of discovering Robin Hood following her. What was wrong with her? Why did she have this strong, overwhelming reaction to him everytime he showed up? Yes, he was handsome, but she’d had dealings with plenty of handsome men through the years. What was it about this bandit that affected her so? She didn’t need this distraction.

And so, she’d resorted to her default when she felt flat footed–sarcasm and snark.

She did her best to ignore him as she went about gathering the supplies she needed for the curse.

She should have known he would make that impossible.

“What is that?” he asked, suspiciously eyeing the bottles she’d amassed.

“Nothing that concerns you,” she said dismissively.

He pulled an arrow at her, actually pulled an arrow. “I won’t ask you again. What is that?”

Regina’s anger flared–anger at him, anger at herself, anger at Pan, anger at the witch who’d stolen her castle, anger at the whole damn world and everyone in it. She raised her hand and choked him. “How dare you threaten me in my own castle!”

He struggled against her hold, but the defiance never left his eyes. “Even if you choke the life out of me,” he gasped, “this arrow will still leave my bow, and trust me, I never miss. Now what manner of dark potion are you making?”

In an instant the anger drained from her, leaving nothing but the emptiness–and something feeling almost like shame. Why did it bother her so much that this man jumped to the worst conclusions about her motives?

It was something that didn’t bear contemplation. She was so tired, so heartsick, she just wanted it to be over. She let him go. “A sleeping curse.”

“The kind you used on Snow White?” he asked.

“That spell came from Maleficent,” she answered, mixing ingredients. “I finally learned how to make one of my own.”

“A spell? This is why you wanted to come to the castle?” he asked. “That was your plan? To use it on the witch?”

“The witch?” Regina asked in surprise. Truthfully, the idea had never occurred to her. “I don’t care about her.”

“Then who do you plan to use it on?”

Regina stopped for a second, letting the pain, the heartbreak, wash over her once again. She closed her eyes for a moment, wishing things were different, wishing, in a rare moment of brutal self reflection, that she’d been different. “Don’t worry. No one you’ll miss. No one anyone will miss.”

“This is about your son, isn’t it?” he asked, his voice tender, understanding. “I can’t let you do this.”

And she couldn’t let him stop her. With a lazy wave of her hand, she stuck his feet to the floor. “Then it’s a good thing you don’t have a say in the matter.”

He tried to dissuade her, speaking of his own heartbreak, his own guilt at his wife’s death. He spoke to her of second chances and new reasons to care about life.

For a moment, a single moment, she almost wavered. Her traitorous heart leapt at the hope, the possibilities his words brought to her. What if…what if he was right? What if there was still a possibility of a…if not strictly happy, at least content…life for her?

But as soon as the hope sprung up, it dissipated. It was too late for her. Too late for hope. Hope was for the heroes, for those who still had their loved ones at their side. Her hope was gone, and she was never getting it back.

“This isn’t an end,” she said finally. “It’s an eternal middle. This curse can be broken by the only true love in my life and the only reason I would even want to wake–my son.”

“Regina, listen to me! This is a mistake!” He tried one last time.

“Don’t worry,” she said, resisting the allure of his voice, “I’ll keep my word. I’ll lower the protection spell so that Snow and Charming can be victorious, but then, then I go to sleep.”

A Leap of Faith: Arrow 1x14 Review (The Odyssey)

WE HAVE ARRIVED!!!! FELICITY KNOWS!!! HALLELUJAH!

Hello to those who are reading this review right now. I appreciate your dedication and patience as I have FINALLY resumed writing. HUGS!! I hope I remember how to do this. DRUM ROLL PLEASE!!!

Let’s dig in…

Olicity

This is a heavy flashback episode, so much so they had to render Oliver unconscious so Stephen didn’t have to pull double duty in the past and the present. The writers at least came up with a better idea than Joss Whedon did when Sarah Michelle Gellar hosted Saturday Night Live. He turned Buffy into a rat (which now that we know his disgusting and abusive behavior on set towards women this really tracks, but I digress).

Arrow went a simpler route. Moira shoots Oliver.

Can we just talk about Moira shooting Oliver for a sec? Cool? Cool. So, Diggle has bugged Moira because he added 1 + 1 = THE BITCH IS SHADEY and decided to deal with the math, which is something Oliver likes to avoid, but the recording is damning enough to warrant a visit from the Hood. Oliver crashes through the window, takes out some of the office dudes and aims an arrow on his mama.

Moira holds up a picture of Oliver and Thea, begs the Hood not to kill her because she’s a mother and Oliver lessens the tension on the bow. AS IF YOU’RE GOING TO SHOOT HER OLIVER PLEASE. LIKE YOU MOMENTARILY FORGOT THIS WAS YOUR MOTHER AND THE PHOTO REMINDED YOU??!!! Come on dude.

Side note: I’d like to point out that Moira literally uses Oliver and Thea’s photo as a shield against the Hood, which is what she always does. She uses her motherhood and children as shield to justify her bad behavior. Moira is not the only person to give birth on this planet, Oliver. It’s not a free pass to murder people.

Oliver is bleeding out and the person he asks for help is not Diggle (even though he’s a phone call away), L*urel (the writers would prefer not to further integrate her into the plot in a meaningful way) or Tommy (they have to save that golden nugget for another time). No, the person Oliver goes to help is FELICITY MEGHAN SMOAK.

The scene where Felicity finds out Oliver is the Hood is iconic primarily because she has the best reaction of all the characters in the show. Emily Bett Rickards plays the scene with pitch perfect comedic timing, vindication and genuine compassion. It marks Felicity’s full integration into the show. There is no going back now.

The rewatch is funnier now than it was live because Emily has recounted numerous times that Stephen didn’t fit into the back of Felicity’s Mini Cooper. I have the visual of Stephen’s bottom half hanging out of the side door the scene plays out.

Felicity brings Oliver to the Foundry as instructed and this is no small thing. Oliver has been shot enough times to know he was losing a lot of blood and would be unconscious soon. He doesn’t make any kind of contact with Diggle to let him know what happened. Oliver’s life is truly in Felicity’s hands. She could bring him to the hospital, but they both know that would result in revealing The Hood’s true identity. Oliver has no guarantees Felicity won’t immediately go to the police either, and yet there he is in the back of the Mini Cooper.

TRUST is a central theme in Olicity’s relationship. It’s examined from almost every possible angle over the course of 8 seasons, but these early episodes are the building blocks. You don’t get to 1x14 without 1x12. Felicity took the first step. She confronted Oliver about his lies, admits she had no real reason to trust him, and yet there she is in the restaurant handing over Moira’s copy of The List. Felicity takes a leap of faith and so Oliver does the same.

This revelation has been steadily building from the moment Oliver walked into Felicity’s office and presented the bullet ridden computer.

Arrow has many missteps, particularly when they are not invested in a character, but when the writers are invested they can produce really profound character arcs. They slowly and rather painstakingly build Felicity’s character and her relationship with Oliver, step by step, moment by moment. It doesn’t feel rushed when Felicity discovers Oliver’s identity, but it doesn’t feel overdue either.

It’s Felicity herself who asks the most fundamental question in “The Odyssey” and perhaps in the show.

I think one of the more remarkable aspects to Arrow is that the writers often anticipate the audience’s questions and literally answer them in the show. More often than not, Felicity is the voice of the audience. It’s difficult to explain how dismissive some viewers were of Felicity now that we know how the story played out, but Olicity shippers really had it rough back in Season 1 and Season 2.

It was LUDICROUS to even consider Felicity as a potential love interest for Oliver - not when you had the queen of comic canon L*urel L*ance right there. This was the Green Arrow’s origin story and there was no other possible ending other than Oliver ending up with the Bl*ck C*anary.

Anyone who dared to question the presumed trajectory of the story was on the receiving end of a lot of ridicule and hate. Olicity shippers were idiotic. We were delusional. Felicity Smoak was comedic relief and the Girl Friday. THAT WAS ALL SHE WAS EVER GOING TO BE.

And yet… we hoped because of scenes like THIS. The writers were challenging their own narrative by asking the very question some of the audience was asking. WHY FELICITY? Why does Felicity find out the truth and not L*urel? Why does Oliver go to HER? If this was really about her ability with computers and becoming his Girl Friday then Diggle would’ve answered that way, but he doesn’t.

John’s answer contains a lot more depth.

“As hard as it is for him to admit, even Oliver needs help sometimes.”

Oliver NEEDS help. He cannot do this alone, even though that was his very intention in the beginning, but as the mission evolved so did Oliver. He went to Diggle first and now Felicity. Yes, they both have skills that are useful to the mission. Diggle is a trained solder. Felicity is a tech genius. (Oliver clearly had some computer skills in the pilot that the writers rapidly backed off of once they discovered the gem that is Emily Bett Rickards.) We can easily right this off as skills are the only qualifications that matter answer.

But Diggle didn’t join Oliver’s mission because he thought Oliver needed back up in the field. John recognized Oliver’s trauma because it was the same as his trauma. Diggle knows the hole Oliver is in because he was in the hole too. Diggle’s mission was always to save Oliver Queen. Whether or not Oliver is capable of acknowledging this is the help he truly needs from John (and he’s sooooooo not capable at this point in the story), it doesn’t change the truth.

The antis aren’t entirely wrong. Felicity Smoak was nothing. She was a throw away comic book name that Marc Guggenheim tossed into a little scene with an unknown guest star to give it some extra pizzazz. But that’s all it was ever supposed to be – one scene. What happened next was completely unexpected for the writers and the actors. Emily’s performance sparked something in Stephen’s and thus lighted the path the writers were struggling to find in Season 1. Felicity wasn’t supposed to matter, but that’s exactly why she does.

Oliver’s story is not about how many comic book characters Arrow can produce. It’s not about reproducing a comic canon story directly from the issue page onto a television screen. It’s not about a predetermined ending. If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a million times. It’s about a broken man finding his humanity again. Arrow is about saving a man’s soul.

If we are to truly believe Oliver is a changed man then he must see beyond what’s on the surface. He has to see value and worth in all people – particularly those who are perceived to be nothing. This is an origin story. He’s not the Green Arrow yet, but for us to believe in his hero’s journey then Oliver Queen must see people’s humanity. The sum total of his mission is not crossing off a list of names.

Felicity Smoak is the first person who sparks something in Oliver when he returns home. This inconsequential human being, who is a means to an end to catch a bad guy, finds a way past Oliver’s cold and detached demeanor and makes him smile. We see Oliver’s humanity. We glimpse the warm, kind and deeply good person Oliver is. We see his light. Felicity makes Oliver feel something he cannot quite put into words, but he keeps coming back for more.

People are dismissive of Felicity the same way so many of the characters are dismissive of Oliver. One of the main reasons he’s able to keep his identity secret is because so many of his loved ones believe it’s ludicrous to ever think Oliver is a crime fighting vigilante. He’s too selfish and stupid for that. Nobody bothers to look past Oliver’s surface other than Diggle.

I mean… why not L*urel? The woman is a friggin lawyer and she has helped the Hood before. Doesn’t it make more sense at this point to bring her into the team? Shouldn’t Oliver rebuild his relationship with L*urel by allowing her to know the person he truly is? Their relationship fell apart because of lies and betrayal, so wouldn’t the fix be honesty and complete transparency? The answer to those questions are clearly yes, but Oliver has absolutely no intention of ever telling L*urel his true identity, so there’s a solid 75% of his life that she will never know about. What kind of relationship is that?

Oliver has told two virtual strangers his identity while keeping those he loves most in the dark. Why? I don’t think he trusts L*urel. He doesn’t trust she won’t turn him into daddy. His identity is safe if he’s in her good graces, but if L*urel decides she hates Oliver one week then it’s a trip to the slammer for him.

Before anyone jumps on the whole “Oliver is keeping his identity secret to protect L*urel” bandwagon, I’d like to point out that Diggle brings up this very point to Oliver after he is revived.

I really don’t think Oliver is ambivalent about Felicity’s safety, quite the opposite is true. So, if it’s really that simple then why can’t Oliver protect L*urel? He literally chucks his number one reason for a secret identity right out the window.

Oliver doesn’t want to tell L*ruel because there’s too much pain, loss and guilt. There’s too much bad road between them. Oliver doesn’t have anything to atone for with Felicity and Diggle. The fact they didn’t know pre-island Ollie is a real friggin plus at this point. Oliver can just be who he is. It’s a clean slate.

LOOK at how ambivalent this man is towards life. He just survived death AGAIN and he can barely summon any appreciation beyond “Cool.” But the very next scene is Oliver shaking Felicity’s hand and welcoming her to the team.

Did y’all fangirl over the handshake? These are the seasons where seasons where shoulders are Oliver and Felicity’s erogenous zones, so an actual handshake is practically second base.

Oliver extends the same invitation to Felicity that he offered to Diggle. She’s pretty much a member of Team Arrow at this point anyways. But like Diggle, Felicity has her own reasons for joining up with Oliver. Her goal is to save Walter simply because he was nice to her. Felicity is as loyal as they come.

We can breathe a sigh of relief. The show is on the upswing because Felicity is finally officially on the team. From the moment she enters the Foundry, it feels like Felicity is coming home. This is where she was always meant to be. Her bright magenta sweater (with matching lipstick naturally) is like a burst of colorful sunshine amongst all the grey, black and green. It’s been thirteen episodes of just Oliver and Diggle yapping while shirtless. Don’t get me wrong, I like the shirtless, but this show is in major need of a feminine injection. I wonder if she’ll decorate a little.

Felicity is the ONLY woman in Oliver’s life who knows who he truly is. This is no small matter. I disagree with Diggle. Oliver did have a choice. There were other people he could have called for help, but he chose Felicity. He doesn’t have to pretend with her anymore and I think that’s in large part why he tells her. Oliver lies so convincingly with everyone in his life, but not Felicity. He is terrible at lying to Felicity because he doesn’t want to lie to her. It’s just that simple. He cannot quantify what he feels at this point, but it is Felicity who reminds Oliver what it means to be human.

And if you’re truly paying attention to the show the writers tell us why Felicity from the very beginning. We weren’t delusional. We were right.

Felicity and Diggle

Stephen Amell is pulling full time duty in the flashbacks, which allows for a long overdue quality Diggle and Felicity scene. These are always so wonderful and so rare.

Diggle catches Felicity up on the previous thirteen episodes and confirms everything she already knew. The fact that she’s the only character to figure out who Oliver is BEFORE he reveals his identity speaks volumes about her. Felicity is brilliant of course, but you don’t need to be a genius to piece this puzzle together. I appreciate the writers don’t treat her like an idiot for the sake of keeping an identity secret from someone who clearly should’ve figured it out by now (*cough*Laurel*cough*)

Not that I’m taking anything away from Diggle, but he was a hell of a lot more shocked when Oliver revealed he was the Hood. I think Diggle knew there was a lot more to Oliver Queen than he was letting on and he was up to some shifty behavior, but I don’t think Diggle believed that meant he was murdering criminals with a bow and arrow on a nightly basis.

As they wait for Oliver to recover, Felicity decides to pass the time by asking John how he feels about all the murder. It’s one of the few times we hear about Diggle’s experience in Afghanistan and we get a clearer understanding on where John’s moral compass is pointing lately.

He tells Felicity about the time he killed a young boy in order to protect a warlord in Afghanistan. There’s nothing more righteous than fighting for your country and yet Diggle had to do terrible things. He wanted to be an honorable solider, but came home feeling like he lost his honor. He couldn’t see what good he truly accomplished.

Diggle: I killed this kid to protect this human piece of garbage and I thought am I still good? Am I still a good man? Doing this with Oliver, doing what we do, I feel good again for the first time in a long time.

It is seriously one of David Ramsey’s most underrated performances.

John’s explanation is simple. Yes, Oliver kills but they are bad people. John isn’t thrilled about the murder, but it’s not like he enjoyed killing while in Afghanistan and he knows Oliver doesn’t enjoy it either. Loss of life is the cost of war, and sometimes a necessary evil, but at least in this war John feels like he’s actually accomplishing something. Diggle is finding his honor again. If he has to break the law to win the war then it’s a cost Diggle is willing to pay.

This scene is key to understanding why Felicity joins the team. Yes, she wants to save Walter, but it means a certain level of acceptance with the way Oliver does business. We’re going to flesh out Felicity’s attitude about Oliver’s killing a lot more in the upcoming episodes, but he may need to take some lives of VERY EVIL PEOPLE in order to save Walter’s life. Felicity is not stupid. She knows this.

One of my annoyances in later seasons is whenever Oliver does something bad to Felicity it can be treated like the worst thing he’s ever done. Whereas I remain firmly entrenched in torture and murder being the worst things Oliver has ever done. Homegirl not only joined up with Oliver while he was dropping bodies left and right, she also fell in love with him while he was doing it.

Felicity Smoak is not pure as the driven snow. Her moral compass skews slightly left of dead center, no different than Oliver and Diggle. But we have to ask the same question Diggle asks himself every day – what is good? Oliver operates in a world of grey and watching Felicity navigate it with him is what gives their dynamic the necessary push and pull.

Flashbacks

Shockingly, everything I talked about previously is not the main focus of the episode. The Flashbacks are the main focus, but my investment in them was minimal when I watched Season 1 live and they’ve plummeted further upon my rewatch.

Island Ollie is such a pain in the ass. Honestly, I cannot believe Slade and Yao Fei put up with his ass for so long. Could you blame them if they just bitched slapped the hell out of Oliver and left him for dead? No. They deserve medals. Oliver is so whiney & entitled. How did any woman find this man attractive enough to sleep with him? The hair alone is ...

WOMEN OF STARLING CITY I HAVE QUESTIONS.

Slade and Oliver are going to commandeer a plane and fly off the island. Oliver would also like to save Yao Fei, but Slade is not convinced it is worth the effort. Oliver’s refusal to abandon Yao Fei gives us a glimpse of the hero he will become, so I am willing to give credit where credit is due. But Ollie is right back to his old tricks when he tries to buy off Billy Wintergreen to save his own life.

These people are psychopaths. You are in Purgatory. You are paying for your sins. You will not be able to buy your way out of it.

Slade’s training is not a total loss. Well, that’s not true. Oliver screws up virtually every job Slade gives him, but he is able to disarm a bad guy so that’s progress at least. Slade kills his ex BFF Billy Wintergreen too so Team Island is also on an upswing.

I wondered how much I was going to have to write about The Odyssey since the name of the episode is “The Odyssey” but leave it to Arrow to be subtle about it. It’s the book Fyers is reading on the island and the only book Oliver read in college, so he knows the secret challenge code when the pilot tries to verify their identity.

For those who never had an English literature class, The Odyssey is a Greek poem written by Homer about Odysseus’ 10 year struggle to return home after the Trojan War. The challenge code Oliver repeats from the poem flat out explains what Arrow is about.

“Of all creatures that breathe and move upon the earth, nothing is bred that is weaker than man.”

Homer is acknowledging that humanity is weak by our very nature, especially when compared to the gods. We are powerless against the pain the gods inflict upon humanity, but more often than not we are the makers our own suffering. Yet, it is this very weakness which makes our victories so sweet. The gods‘ immortality & power ultimately renders their lives meaningless because they have nothing to lose.

Odysseus doesn’t have any magical powers. He survives by his cunning & will, which makes his journey home EARNED. Odysseus appreciates life and those he loves because he suffered. This appreciation for life is something the gods can never have.

Oliver = Odysseus. Here endeth the lesson.

Stray Thoughts

Oliver making Mama Queen off limits is really one of his stupider moves and sets up a lot of the disastrous things coming up.

I’m really trying not to read into Diggle’s “hickey gone wrong” comment in the episode Felicity officially joins the team, but alas I am failing. I will find my Olicity sexual content wherever possible.

Felicity ordered the sample of Oliver’s blood destroyed. Damn she’s good. And we get this adorable gif.

The bathroom is upstairs in the club? That seems inconvenient.

Yao Fei has a daughter. A daughter with the same tattoo Oliver has on his shoulder. The plot thickens.

It’s really amazing Diggle didn’t shoot Felicity by accident.

Me: UGH. They never include L*urel in the flashbacks. Also Me: UGH. L*urel is in the flashbacks. KEEP IT.

“Do you think you can sleep with your girlfriend’s sister and make it right?” Slade wins all the awards this episode honestly. Finally someone said it.

***No more commentary from the child. She is a teenager and is way too busy to watch a show with her old mom. She will always be an Olicity shipper though.

1. Have you ever seen her skins. Even outside of the tumblr sexymen context she has one of the Best Selection of Minecraft Skins. Like:

Like first of all there’s her saturated post-Demise skin. Look me in the eye and tell me that’s not 2013 DevianArt tumblr anime overly colourful OC core. The neon green hair. The fabulously unnecessary pink lip gloss. The jarringly violet jacket. The Ebony Darkness vampiric red boots. The overly saturated Windows XP blue goggles. She looks like a 2013 tumblrina. In fact she probably is a 2013 tumblrina.

And of course there’s her wearing the Mumbo suit and I mean just. Just look at her. I don’t need to say anything, right? Put her in a girlboss suit. That’s a tumblr sexyman.

And then of course we have [holds back sapphic screaming] her latest skins. Listen e!False’s skin did something to everyone. Don’t lie. The steampunk. The suspenders. The rolled sleeves. And of course she’s being a mildly evil pathetic murderous meow meow. And the logging outfit is here just for display because like. Just look at it. The belt. It’s red fucking flannel. And brown gloves. She’s serving. Are we all okay? Let’s take deep breaths shall we—

There’s more about False in a suit. She was the butler in Mint Maids. And she was a cute skeleton. And she had a froggy hat. AND SHE WAS SHREK. Look at her range!

And speaking of rolled up sleeves, you had to be there when she rolled them up for the first time at the beginning of a HC season and let me tell you, hermitblr panicked. Everyone was 😳. Like how can you not—

2. Enough about the skins. False has a reputation for being a scary PvPer, and it’s both right and wrong. Right as in she can be scary sometimes but in a random, cryptic way. Remember when Scar had to kill her but just couldn’t because False was wearing protection armour? And Scar sounded like he was about to cry while False looked like a pincushion with all the arrows sticking out of her? And False took mercy on Scar and stood still just so he could kill her? There’s being scary, and then there’s the supernatural type of scary imposed by her. She’s insane. And then she felt bad and politely allowed Scar to kill her. Ma’am that’s supernatural.

But on the flip side, False can actually be kinda scared herself when it comes to PvP. You can see from her streams lmfao. But the point is, while she’s panicking and hiding and running away while being 100x prepared with like a stack of potions and golden apples, her opponent is terrified of her. So we have False being a sneaky confused pathetic meow meow (her POV) while from an outsider POV she seems like a mysterious, murderous… entity.

3. Okay apparently one of the criteria of tumblr sexyman is about the fandom’s perception soooo even before e!False, the fandom has always been OBSESSED with the concept of another False. A False False. TrueSymmetry if you will. A devious, cunning mirror image. One of the OG Helsmits. The fandom’s imagination went insane.

4. False does crime. She’s sneaky. She steals. Her (in)famous quote: It’s not stealing if you’re not caught.” Remember her hero complex during the HC7 Mayoral Race when she purposefully lured in mobs just to kill them off? Slay. What a queen.

5. Look at her cultural relevance!!! We still call her Queen of Hearts from a Gucci Gang parody years ago! She’s still False Supremacy even though that began from September 2020 with her MCC9 and MCC10 wins, by the way you should watch MCC9 Blue Bats if you haven’t already— [I am forcefully removed from the podium] She’s a legend!! I was going to borrow this vid to make a GIF for this post and realized... the vid itself actually supports the fic pretty well. Or vice versa. They’re both from 2014 and I don’t remember which I made first, oops! But if you end up watching it and reading the fic, let me know if you think they kinda do pair pretty well. They were both made in season 1 of Arrow, so maybe that was inevitable, I dunno! 🤷‍♀️😉

1. “Five Times Oliver Held Felicity (And The One Time She Held Him)” (Oliver Queen x Felicity Smoak, Arrow) This one has about the “prettiest” writing I’ve ever done, if that makes sense? I don’t fall into this sort of voice often but I hope it worked well for this one.

2. “Balancing Act” NSFW (The Tenth Doctor x Donna Noble, Doctor Who) My very first multi-chaptered fic and will always be a sentimental favorite. 💖 It’s also where I developed my love of writing humorous smuttistuffs. 😉 I’ve also vidded them a time or two. Here’s a happy one: “Short Skirt, Long Jacket”

3. “15 Minutes” WIP (Master Chief John-117 x Reader, Halo the series) This is truly one of my most favorite things I’ve written and I don’t say that lightly. This fic is my place to take refuge in and, while I don’t look forward to it ending, I’m also excited to share the entire story. However, if I don’t have chapter 8 ready to post not long after 7, I’m going to feel verrrrrry guilty. There’s a pretty big cliffhanger about to land. *whistles innocently* 😳😉

Now, since you can’t properly vid a Reader fic (since you don’t want to physically show that character), here’s my AO3 collection of Halo vids. The vids for the series are all pretty much John/Kai but you can always go straight for the AU Party Warthog and jump in, if you’re so inclined, lol! 😇😉

4. “Cold Hands” (Jordan Mahkent x Caitlin Snow, Stargirl/The Flash) I don’t often cross fandoms like this but ended up really enjoying the chance for these two to meet! Naturally, I also made a vid for them as well: “Gasoline”

5. “The Thousandth and the First” NSFW (Eobard Thawne x Caitlin Snow, The Flash) Snowells, my beloved, lol. I ended up writing them in their many variations and dopplegangers and such but this fic here? This one gave me the chance to both write a soulmate AU, which I’d wanted to do for a while, as well as to come up with an idea as to how a relationship could’ve actually worked between them as “realistically” (she says, having just told you this is a soulmate AU, lol) as possible. I’ve vidded them a lot but the one I’m going to suggest to pair for this particular fic is “I Know You” (where the GIF actually comes from as well) 😉

Haerin x M!Reader: The Villain(Part 4)

3rd Person's POV

It had been a month since Y/N agreed to train Haerin. From just this short period, Haerin felt like her fighting skills had increased tremendously.

First, Y/N had taught her how to better use the shadows and element of surprise to her advantage. How to subdue a group of enemies before any reaction. These skills weren't aptitude based, all of these were things Haerin had the capacity to carry out, but she had never even thought of doing these. She had been putting too much faith in her precognitive abilities to actually learn in depth regarding martial arts. He taught her to read her opponents, find weaknesses to exploit.

Second, Y/N had taught her many useful martial arts, all usable for offense, defense, or both. These styles included Wing Chun, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Judo, Krav Maga, and other similar forms. In Y/N's words, "Jack of all Trades isn't good, so be a Master of All" With using all these forms, being able to use hybrids and even switch up the styles mid fight, she would be able to flummox even seasoned fighters

Third, Y/N had taught her some weapons she could incorporate into her arsenal. A big hole in her offense, according to Y/N, was that she was a hand to hand fighter, which offered no reach or no range whatsoever, another reason that Y/N could beat her so easily before. Sticking with Haerin's gist of close quarter's combat though, and after some input by Haerin, Y/N and Haerin designed a new weapon for her to use. A collapsible Bo Staff and a hand mounted magnum that fired non lethal rounds. Then, with the similarities between a Scythe and a Bo Staff, Y/N could also teach her the ways to best use the Bo Staff in offense and defense. Lastly, Y/N had taught her how to properly case an environment, the importance of which Y/N demonstrated with The Flash Season 1 Episode 8. Once Barry got shot with the arrow, Haerin looked at Y/N apprehensively, before Y/N chuckled, ruffling her hair and saying, "I'm not going to shoot you my Goyangi-ah, that's why I showed you instead of demonstrating it." "HEY!" Haerin grumbled, turning away to hide her blushing face. "Lets practice now." Y/N said, as Haerin held his scythe with her, teleporting to the Seoul National Bank. "This is the Seoul National Bank, the Police report at least 15 assailants present. They have taken 30 hostages outside the Bank Vault. How would you case the environment?' Y/N asked, as Haerin looked from her bird eye's view, assessing the location as Y/N looked with her, but occasionally stealing glances of Haerin, noticing how her cat shaped eyes would flare when she saw a potential danger point, and how her nose would scrunch when she thought of how best to engage the situation

'Cute' Y/N thought to himself

Haerin knew, of course, Y/N wasn't exactly subtle, but she didn't want him to stop. It made her feel weird, but in a good way, when Y/N would look at her. What exactly that feeling was, she doesn't know.

Haerin had been sparring with Y/N, training her martial art skills. Now, it was time for a small test. Y/N chose an open field as the fighting location. No need to case the environment, but it took away a big part of Haerin's arsenal, cover to avoid attacks, as well as no way to catch the opponent off guard. As Haerin and Y/N prepared to fight, Y/N shouted out, "Wildcat! Headgear off. No powers!" He shouted out, as Haerin grumbled. Y/N planned this fight to be as disadvantageous for her as possible. "You're mean!" Haerin said, pouting

"The villains will be meaner." Y/N said, as he brandished his Scythe. Haerin raised her short staff, pressing a button that caused it to shoot out on both sides, as her Bo Staff flourished out, as she assumed an offensive position, before being shocked, as Y/N immediately attacked her with a fury of attacks. She was not used to this, Y/N had always been on the defensive, parrying her attacks, but now, for the first time, she was experiencing what it was like when Y/N was the offense, but thankfully, Y/N was a good teacher. Despite only using a staff for a short while, Haerin proved herself to be a formidable fighter and a quick learner, as she parried, blocked and dodged, all the while familiarizing herself with Y/N's attack pattern and style, finding any blind spots she could exploit. As Y/N striked down on Haerin, instead of blocking the attack like Y/N expected, Haerin dodged to her right, before landing a solid hit to Y/N's stomach. "Excellently Done Haerin-ei" Y/N said, stumbling a little "More." He said, before he lunged at her once again

Y/N jumped up, striking down at Haerin, as Haerin dodged once again, before Y/N twisted his body, kicking her across the face as she fell to the ground. "Never use the same move twice. Your enemies will not hesitate to exploit it. Get up." Y/N said, extending his hand out to Haerin, who reached her hand up, grabbing Y/N then grappling him the ground, as he found himself on his back, as Haerin was on top of him, faces dangerously close "Umm, Haerin-ei, could you let me up?" Y/N said, chuckling a little, but unable to stop himself from looking at her lips. Haerin looked at him, her heart pounding as she finally got the answer to her question. What was she feeling? She thought back to her last month with Y/N. The way he would take care of her after Training, the movie marathons, him making her dinner and food that he found out he liked. There was even that one time when Haerin cuddled with Y/N while watching Shrek 2, as Y/N began joking about Haerin being Puss in Boots, as Haerin pouted and whined when he had said that. The way her heart fluttered when he called her his Goyangi, the way he, was just him. She knew now. Love. That was the only answer. She quickly grabbed Y/N's Face, kissing him on the lips deeply as he was too stunned to respond. Haerin quickly drew back, a blushing mess as Y/N slowly realized what had happened, before he muttered something to himself softly. "What was that?" Haerin asked, worried that he did not like it. "I said we can do it longer if you want to." Y/N said, as they both blushed. "Another time, Jagiya, maybe." Haerin said, as Y/N's blush deepened, as she mentally fist pumped, finally finding an answer to Goyangi. "So what are we?" Y/N slowly asked

"It depends on what you say now isn't it." Haerin asked, wiggling her eyebrows.

"Hmph, fine, Kang Haerin, will you be my girl-" Y/N couldn't finish her sentence before Haerin hugged him so tight he swore something popped.

"Yes, I will." Haerin said, as Y/N held her close, as they laid there on that flat field, just being together.

My Comments: This is one of my all time favorite Arrow fanfictions. It is a characters-watch-the-show fic, but the transcripts are written by Naitch himself. This fic is really well written and Naitch transcribes the show beautifully. I really love the “audiences” reactions and how they react to Oliver’s life. I really love the backstory set up of why they are there and the reasons too. It is also one of the few characters-watch-the-show fics that are actually completed. It only goes to season 2 of Arrow though, and then AU from there. At the time it was written season 3 was just coming out. But still highly recommend giving this one a read!!! Naitch does have two fics of this series posted on both AO3 and the full series posted on ff.net, so I will link both down below.

Sara is only in 3 chapters, I think, but it's still a really good fic. I love the romance between Oliver and Nyssa. Not to mention the plot and the OCs are just amazing. This fic is cross-posted on AO3, but it only has the first 14 chapters, so if you want to read the complete fic, you have to go to ff.net.

My Comments: A really great fic!!! I would HIGHLY recommend this fic! It truly is a work of art that I still read all the time. I love the romance between Oliver and Felicity too! I mean both of them are forced to confront the chemistry between them while at the same time trying to parent a 3 year old. Not to mention Sara was a total badass in this fic! And I love the relationship between Moira and Felicity, and (Spoiler) how it just does a 180 once Moira meets Ellie. The plot is to die for and definitely keeps you on the edge of your seat. Spoiler alert; he doesn't.

My Comments: This has to be one of the most funniest fics I've ever read. It's hysterical!!!! Tommy is slightly OOC, but god do you just fall in love with him. I also like ChronicOlicity’s take on season 2, and how it could have played out with Tommy still being alive. I also love the romance between Oliver and Felicity in this fic as well, it’s to die for!!! I would definitely give this one a read. Also as a side note this is one of the longest fanfics that I’ve ever read. And it literally only took me a couple of hours because I could just not put it down!! This is sort of cross-posted on ff.net, but the ff.net story only has the first chapter. So if you want to read the whole thing, you have to read it on AO3.

My Comments: So this is actually a sequel to another fanfiction. Although you don't really need to read it to read this one. All you really need to know is that Ivo shot Oliver instead of Shado, he died, and when Slade arrived he injected Oliver with the mirakuru to bring him back. This is a pretty good fic that I really enjoy. I have to admit that Oliver having the mirakuru kind of put me off at first, but the author manages to make it work. I also like how the author shows the differences between Sara and Oliver's methods as well. I would recommend reading this fic. This fic is not on AO3, but the prequel is, so I’ll link that down below.

And how the romance builds between both Felicity and Oliver and Felicity and “The Hood.” Felicity’s backstory is a bit different in this, but I actually kind of liked it more than her ‘origin story’ in the show. The only thing is that this fic can only be read by AO3 members, so you have to have an account to read it. I'd highly, highly recommend it!! Also there are way too many sequels, or outtakes is what they really are, for me to link in, so instead I'm just going to link the entire series instead. My Comments: I have to say that the summary above (which I wrote) does not even come close to doing this fic justice. Now this fic still keeps the basic backstories for all the characters (except Oliver's). Kara's world still explodes. Barry's mom is still killed by the Reverse. Only difference is that Robert wasn't on the Gambit, only Oliver was. Also since Oliver was still in high school, he and Laurel never get together (they do later on in the fic). Also what I didn't put in the summary was that they follow Sara Lance's island adventures rather than Oliver's, so the trio winds up in Nanda Parbat rather than with Argus. Now also this fic is not centered on the island times, but rather on afterwards, when they arrive back in Starling. This is truly one of my most favorite fics and I HIGHLY recommend it. My Comments: This fic is based on the premise of Felicity being Tommy's younger sister. I have to say I really love the backstory that Fina has set up for this premise. I've read a couple other fics with this same trope but none have even come close to pulling it off as well as Fina did. The only thing I wish for is that Fina would've explained how Season 1 would've worked without Felicity, since she was, you know, vital to dismantling the machine. But other than that I have to give this one a 10/10.

My Comments: So the basic premise of this fic is Felicity and Oliver hookup before the Gambit, and Felicity ends up getting pregnant from it. And God, do I think the author managed to pull it off. I have to say that the thing I loved most about this is how it showed all the dynamics of everything. And I also really enjoyed Lady Chi's take on season one of Arrow. The author didn't really leave off at a cliffhanger, but even so it still leaves me aching for more. I do think that even though this is discontinued, it is still worth your time!

so of course we have all seen these clips, right?

well I HAVE SOME EMOTIONS THAT I NEED TO GET OFF MY CHEST here ya go (beware so many spoilers also THANKS TO @puck038 for the gifs! 😍😘).

FTA vs OTA scene:

Oliver and William and Mia part 1

Oliver’s little step back at the beginning, right after Mia says, “Dad?”

William’s immediate reaction to Oliver is amazing! he smiles and just goes right for the hug! 💗😭💗😭 no hesitation at all! And his face, so happy. He’s suddenly just a little boy again, a little boy who just misses his dad! 😭😭😭

and Oliver is so shocked and confused. He says “William?” but then when he is more certain, “William!?” and his arms close around his son and he’s so overcome!

and Oliver’s soft “Hey” in that voice he always reserved for William 💔😭💗

and then William’s face as they hug! a beautiful mix of happiness and sorrow and relief!! 💗😭💔

and then William steps back and INTRODUCES HIS SISTER TO HIS FATHER, “Mia” and I cannot believe we are having this moment!!

and Oliver just repeats, “Mia” with disbelief and his heart in his throat (can you believe!?!?)

John and Connor etc.

Connor calling John “dad” and expecting that emotional response from him, but all John does is look at him suspiciously ughhh my heart hurts!! 😭

John’s “What is this. How did they get here” ughhh I am not used to John being so emotionally closed off 😩

and Connor is just crushed at that reaction!

Rene all “last time I checked you didn’t have an adult daughter, or any daughter” and Dinah like “How? I didn’t even know she was pregnant.” THAT’S BECAUSE IT WAS NEED TO KNOW AND YOU BITCHES DID NOT NEED TO KNOW 🤷‍♀️ 😂

and Mia and William’s two different reactions to him CLAIMING THEM AS HIS CHILDREN:

and Mia just trembles, absolutely shocked to hear those words coming from his mouth! 😭

and then Oliver steps toward her, “Are you okay?” and she steps back, and it’s SO MUCH LIKE season 1 Felicity asking season 1 Oliver if he’s okay (”You said you were going to pull your punches” - 1x22) - the emotional walls!! 😭

AND THEN (honestly this might be my favorite part) OLIVER TALKING ABOUT HIM AND FELICITY AND MIA!!!!!!!!!

“We had a daughter!” will forever be a thing that Oliver said, in that voice, WITH THAT FACE 💗😭💔😩🙌💗😭

and no I am not okay! 😭😭😭

“and we named her Mia. Felicity gave birth a few months after we left Star City. We didn’t tell anyone. We wanted to keep her off grid to protect her.”

I AM LIVING FOR THIS MOMENT. Because Mia is hearing this! She is hearing her father talk about her FOR THE FIRST TIME IN HER LIFE.

Mia’s whole life, Oliver was just a larger-than-life MYTH. Felicity was just Mia’s mom. It was just the two of them, and the lives of her parents before she was born was just A MYTH. So vastly different from the life she lived, where it was just her and her mom, where Felicity was just her mom - whose whole life centered around her and her company - and the two of them lived sequestered from everyone and everything.

(look I always thought the writers did us wrong by not foregrounding Mia’s ridiculously over-dramatic response to learning that Felicity was still helping the vigilante cause, but seeing this, I can almost imagine how it must have felt for her. She thought her mom belonged her her and her alone, so to learn that all along Felicity was participating in something larger, something more, something she had kept from Mia...it must have hurt.)

(anyway back to my point) JUST IMAGINE WHAT IT MUST BE LIKE FOR HER to finally hear it FROM HER FATHER. To have him staring at her and talking to her and about her. THE MAN, NOT THE MYTH. I honestly cannot even I’m so fucked up over this.

and then of course the way Oliver looks at Mia, in her fucked up state, when he says “to protect her” because obviously that plan failed! 😭

William: "Look at this place....it's new! And them. No grey hair. No wrinkles." LMAO thank goodness that William got the comedic relief from Felicity 😂

but then - "And we are staring at our dad. Alive. Instead of at his tombstone.” OH GOD 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

I have fewer reactions here in words because it was mostly just crying

first off: THE APARTMENT because it’s the summer after they went into hiding and all their stuff is still there because they had to have someone else pack it because they escaped to hiding with only duffle bags 😭😭 (a scene I saw them film I might add 😂)

and (as @puck038 pointed out) THE PICTURE ON THE COFFEE TABLE is the Oliver and Felicity summer of 3.5 one that had previously been seen on a shelf in that apartment! 😭💗🙌

and just ALL THE EMOTIONS Oliver as a PROUD DAD!

and when William comes out, he’s still so nervous, like a little boy again...and as Ben said in the article (such an amazing article btw): "he might feel like his dad died without really knowing him" which absolutely BREAKS MY HEART that William went all those years feeling that way...

ONLY FOR IT NOT TO BE TRUE BECAUSE OLIVER SAYS “Yeah buddy, I know.” 😭😭😭 WITH THAT SMILE ON HIS FACE, SUCH A PROUD DAD 😭💗😭💗

it has always been my headcanon that Oliver and Felicity knew, and it’s so good to have it acknowledged in canon!! 🙌😭💗🙌😭💗

“We clearly didn’t get that chance, and that’s on me. I’m sorry.” SO MUCH IS SAID HERE! HIS SORROW AND REGRET AND ANGST OVER WILLIAM OH GOD

but ohhhhh William is so forgiving, he’s just happy to get to be with his dad now!! 💗😭💗😭

and then they so easily switch into joking, they have such an amazing rapport: “Shocker. Where’d she get that from?”/ “Mom, I guess?” OH MY GOD I LOVE IT SO MUCH!!!!!

Oliver’s FACE IS SO HAPPY WHEN THEY ARE LAUGHING. THIS IS EVERYTHING TO HIM TO HAVE THIS WITH HIS SON! 😭😭😭

all of his unresolved William related angst....dissolving into a beautiful moment of honesty with his son!! THIS IS EVERYTHING!

So in conclusion:

part of me is hoping that that means the entire episode is equally amazing?? but even if it's not, I don't care. These clips are more than enough

these two scenes include more/better content than like 3/4 of season 6 and 7 combined

like I want to approach all the people in my life I've tried to get to watch Arrow over the years and force them to watch that scene and be like SEE WHAT YOU ARE MISSING!?

and finally, EVERYONE READ THAT ARTICLE with the interview with Ben Lewis. Includes such gems as:

"Like Felicity before him, William really shows that there’s more than one way to be a hero."

and the interviewer asks: "How long should we expect his crew to stick around?”
