You have to eat one food for the rest of your life. What is it? (I'd pick bean burritos with "the fixin's" the way I like them.)
Orange rice/Tomato rice Period
Best comfort food:
Soft
Tasty
can pair nicely with limón and breaded chicken
Ingredients
1/2 onion
3 tomatoes
2 cups of rice
3 garlic pieces
4 cups of water
1 1/2 tablespoons of salt (or to your preference)
Optional ingredients:
Frozen vegetables
frozen shrimp
Tools:
A wooden ladle or spoon
a blender
a large pot
a stove
a sink
Measuring cup
Tablespoon Spoon
How to make:
Orange rice/Tomato rice
Peel the onions: Carefully make a cut on the outer onion layer to peel the onion skin off
Peel the garlic pieces: pinch one end of the garlic piece with your fingers to remove the thin garlic skin
Cut the tomatoes and onions: Cut both the tomatoes and onions into four chunks
Pour oil on a pot: Pour a thin layer of cooking oil on a large pot
Heat up the pot: Turn on the stove and set the flame strength to medium strength
Pour rice into the pot: once the oil is slightly hot (I think), pour 2 cups of rice into the pot
Blend the ingredients: Put half an onion, 3 tomatoes, 1 cup of water, and 3 garlic pieces into a blender and blend them in medium strength for at least 30 seconds. [Note: Make sure to hold the lid firmly on top of the blender to keep the mixture from spraying everywhere].
Stir the rice around the pot: Stir the rice with a wooden ladle for 1-2 minutes to prevent the rice from sticking/gluing themselves onto the pot. [Note: Failing to do so will leave you with hard rice].
Wait 5-15 minutes for the rice to cook: The rice needs to cook in the oil before you pour the tomato mixture.
Pour the tomato mixture into the pot: Carefully pour two cups of the tomato blend into the pot of rice. [Note: It will make a loud noise].
Pour two cups of water: The rice will absorb the water while the heat of the stove boils the water, cooking the rice. [Note: I’m not a science guy].
Pour salt into the pot: pour 1 1/2 tablespoons of salt using a tablespoon or regular spoon. [Note: If you don’t want to bother with measurements, you can put at least 1 normal spoon of salt with a little extra].
Stir the rice again: Stir the rice with the ladle for a good moment (10 or so seconds)
Lower the stove heat: Turn the knob on the stove close towards “zero” but not exactly zero. [Note: The knob should look like “\” but pointing a bit more up].
Let the rice cook: Place the lid on top of the rice and wait for either: 15 minutes, 20 minutes, or 25 minutes.
Let the rice cool down: Make sure to wait a minute before you place the rice into a plate. [WARNING: Hot rice burns mouth and tongue.]
Enjoy!
Optional:
Rice with Vegetables and shrimp
Pour vegetables and shrimp into the pot: At around step 15, grab frozen vegetables and shrimp into the rice pot.
Let everything cook: Wait for roughly 25 minutes for the frozen ingredients to properly cook along with the rice.
Let the rice cool down: Wait for at least a minute to let the rice cool down before you set it on a plate. [WARNING: Hot foot burns mouth and tongue.]
Enjoy!
