I loved seeing The 1975 so so much. I'm so glad I went two nights. And I'm so glad I went to Milwaukee, bc the allstate arena is a terrible venue and I'm glad it wasn't the only show I saw. Adam said not to go to Allstate and he was right!! The sound is AWFUL, it's really muddled (maybe I wouldn't have noticed if I hadn't been to milwaukee the night before?) and the sightlines are really bad. And it's TINY so it's really hard to dance! But for a second night-in-a-row show it was great.
And I thought going two nights in a row would make me fell FULFILLED but all it really did was make me want to go MORE. Like, should I drive to Indy on Thursday?? (I shan't. But I want to!) They put on such a good show and Matty Healy is so weird but ugh I'm sorry he really does it for me! He is so weird! and hot!
It just made me feel ALIVE. Like I could jump around to The Sound every night. What am I going to do next!! I wish I had a friend who was really into them too to be excited about it with me. I do have my sister! but I think she's just enough of a fan to be happy to go with me but probably not to go otherwise. Oh well! We might go see Bleachers in December. That's fun too! He produced the most recent 1975 album!

“Cube Invasion” - Seeking Possible Alien Artifacts

Does anyone remember back in 2012 when millions of these things showed up everywhere? I have a theory that they're alien technology and I want to run some tests, but I need specimens. Willing to pay.

Could the ship have been a holographic projection? The same technology was available for civilian use 2 years later to advertise a 3D video game with a holographic meteor (article about the ad campaign). The government probably already had access to it for years.

I bet the spaceship sightings the previous two Christmases were holograms as well. The one they “shot down” in 2006 was probably Harriet Jones trying to stage her own Falklands poll bump, and after that they decided an invasion scare every year would keep the people docile.

The absurdity of the Zygon theory
posted by u/slow_tempo
If you’ve spent any time in alien believer circles, you’ve probably seen the claims that there are millions of shapeshifting aliens called “Zygons” (🙄) living in hiding on Earth. Some people claim to know a Zygon, or even be one - but of course they can’t prove it, because they “need to stay anonymous”. The only actual evidence believers can hold up is a few grainy cell phone videos that can be easily faked. Why are people so willing to believe outlandish claims like this?

This came up on my front page. Is it supposed to be a joke or something? My neighbor Barry’s a Zygon. Good bloke.

2, 3, 4, and 29? Sorry if the last one is a mood killer.
2. Favorite video
I don’t think I have one? I like random animal videos 😆
Tumblr media
3. Favorite song
PROBABLY “Dancing in the Dark” by Bruce Springsteen. I can’t not play that song at least three times every time I listen to it.
4. Favorite anime
I don’t think I could pick just one. I have about 30 anime I’ve given a 10 to. But when it comes to series…maybe Oregairu or Cowboy Bebop.
Tumblr media
29. What pi**ed you off lately
Honestly I got mad at myself for losing my patience at my kids. I apologized and they forgave me but I’d rather not have to say I’m sorry in the first place?

Transiting Venus enters Libra
Wednesday, November 8 - Monday, December 4
The good news is, Venus rules Libra, and she’s very happy to be home for a while. The bad news is, she’ll have a lot of challenges. Style over substance, “going along to get along” and refusing to take a stand when it’s necessary, being manipulative - things like that. And the hopeful news is that, if we can remember and adhere to Libra’s higher ground, we can spend this time making real progress.
How this could manifest in Venus’ various areas:
Art - as any music lover will tell you, “popular” doesn’t necessarily equate to “good.” If it did? As an example, Bruce Springsteen has never had a #1 hit song in the US - granted, he was competing against Prince in 1984, but what about the rest of the years?
Beauty - I remember reading a review of “Prizzi’s Honor” which described it as a conflict between “pretty” (Kathleen Turner) and “beautiful” (Angelica Huston). If we tend toward pretty, we’re missing out on depth of character.
Love - seeking personal validation through having a particular spouse (like wanting to date the most popular kid in high school), rather than a true partner. And then doing whatever it takes to acquire that “validating” spouse.
Money - blowing it all on makeup and disposable fashion. Or, we buy something because it’s impressive and not because it has any particular meaning for us.
These are the non-lunar aspects Venus will make. Give them a day or so on either side.
Wednesday, November 8 - Venus/Libra inconjunct Saturn/Pisces, 0°31’. Right off the bat, we have a difficult adjustment to make. Remember that Saturn is exalted in Libra - we’re being asked about our standards of justice and fairness.
Monday, November 13 - Venus/Libra (6°03’) sesquiquad Uranus Rx/Taurus (21°03’). Frustrations; “all that glisters is not gold” springs to mind.
Tuesday, November 14 - Venus/Libra square Vesta Rx/Cancer, 7°00’. We may turn ourselves off, sexually, if we think it will get us something we want.
Wednesday, November 15 - Venus/Libra inconjunct Jupiter Rx/Taurus, 8°45’. More “all that glisters;” with perhaps a little of “your eyes were bigger than your stomach.” Taking on toi much, or realizing it’s a much bigger and more difficult task than we anticipated.
Friday, November 17 - Venus/Libra (10°06’) semi-square Mars/Scorpio (25°06’). People in sexual relationships may feel this especially acutely. One partner may (as with the Vesta square) “turn off” or, conversely, be more demanding.
A “two-fer” with minor aspects from Lady Asteroids, on Sunday, November 19:
Venus/Libra semi-sextile Juno/Virgo, 12°11’
Venus/Libra (12°40’) semi-square Ceres/Scorpio (27°40’)
We’re trying to coordinate between demands of our partners (Juno) and our families (Ceres).
Another two-fer on Wednesday, November 22:
Venus/Libra (15°48’) sesquiquad Saturn/Pisces (0°48’)
Venus/Libra oppose Chiron Rx/Aries, 15°58’
These are rather more serious than what we’ve experiences so far - as are the remaining aspects. Even if we’ve been as tactful and graceful as we can manage, it isn’t enough. It’s important to really listen to what other people have to say. They get to have free will, too.
Sunday, November 26 - Venus/Libra inconjunct Uranus Rx/Taurus, 20°32’. A difficult adjustment. If we overindulged, it’s coming back to bite us in the butt.
Tuesday, November 27 - Venus/Libra opposite North Node/Aries, conjunct South Node/Libra, 22°39’. An opportunity to examine (at least) those Libra ways we mess ourselves up.
Wednesday, November 28 - Venus/Libra opposite Eris Rx/Aries, 24°19’. What did I say? Other people get to have free will, too. And if the shoe is on the other foot, and we find we’ve been manipulated, this is the day we could fight back.
Thursday, November 29 - Venus/Libra inconjunct Neptune Rx/Pisces, 24°54’. Taking those rose-colored glasses off, or having them removed for us.
Sunday, December 3 - Venus/Libra square Pluto/Capricorn, 28°33’. We’re aware that we haven’t done Venus or Libra very well (not just this transit, but in our past). We’ve seen that our past machinations were unfair - that our cowardice and complacency haven’t served us well - so, either we resolve to fix it during Venus’ imminent trip through Scorpio; or in Steven Forrest’s words, “we fail to look at ourselves; we imagine the issue to have its sole origin in the other person’s intransigence.”
Painful, I know. The higher Libra traits include justice and fairness; valuing other people; tact and diplomacy. We just need to be more consistent about expressing them - and we need to use them to reach out for the higher Aries traits, as represented by the North Node.

HI thank youuuuu
2. A song that used to be your favorite, but now you don’t like
Hmmmm..... Ive been through a lot of really questionable music phases so probably anything from dear even hansen or the legally blonde musical... I still love the legally blonde musical i just dont listen to the music anymore and I do not like deh at all.
16. A song that makes you want to cry
Chinese Satellite and I know the end by phoebe bridgers make me cry really easily, also for some reason one specific line from So Long, London makes me want to SOB which sucks bcs its my go to run song.
I used to only listen to music that made me want to cry but ive been listening to a lot more fun music lately.
17. A song that makes you want to slay your enemies
Bite the hand, stay down and salt in the wound by boygenius. Listening to family tree by ethel cain while walking around in public makes me feel so murderous ALSO daffodil and mermaid by florence and the machine (really all of dance fever tbh). also real men by mitski and she is the new thing by the horrors and like all of specimen also a lot of sioxsie and the banshees songs
20. A song that you’ve listened to on repeat recently
Today Ive been listening to feminomenom on repeat for a solid 2 hours its so satisfying

IN A SAD STATE OF GRACE
June 16, 1997
Section:THE ARTS/MUSIC
DROWNING CLAIMS SINGER JEFF BUCKLEY AND STILLS ONE OF FOLK ROCK'S MOST PROMISING YOUNG VOICES
When he decided to escape the muggy Memphis heat with a quick plunge into the Wolf River, singer Jeff Buckley had every reason to feel buoyed by good fortune. At 30 he was signed to Columbia Records--the home of Bob Dylan and Miles Davis--and had just settled into a cozy old house in town to begin recording a follow-up to Grace, his powerful 1994 debut. That album, a darkly romantic and stunningly original blend of folk, blues and alternative rock, had earned Buckley a reputation as a superstar in the making, much as Greetings from Asbury Park did for Bruce Springsteen in 1973. Buckley's rise was tinged with poignancy. Success promised to lift him at last out of the haunting shadow of his father, the brilliant folk singer Tim Buckley, who died of a heroin overdose in 1975 at age 28.
But on the evening of May 29, after driving to the Memphis marina with a member of his road crew, Jeff inexplicably waded, fully clothed, into the muddy river. As the roadie watched from the riverbank, Buckley swam far out. When the wake of a passing boat splashed ashore, the roadie turned away for a moment to move Buckley's guitar and radio to safety. When he looked up again, Buckley had disappeared. He never came back up. After six days of searching, police last week pulled his body from the water near Beale Street, Memphis' music row.
News of the accidental drowning unleashed an outburst of grief that attested not just to the tragedy of a young man's life cut short but also to the uncommon force of his music. In the hours after his disappearance, fans from around the world-Canada, Australia, the Netherlands and even Singapore--inundated his record label with worried messages. In New York City's Greenwich Village, Buckley's home turf, scores of fans brought candles and flowers to Cafe Sin-e, the former Coffeehouse where he first drew crowds with his spiraling voice and captivating intensity. "His music was so beautiful it made the hair on your neck stand on end," said a weeping fan. "He was special," said Columbia Records president Don Ienner. "We saw the future in Jeff."
That Buckley's life ended in awful symmetry with his father's was a painful irony. The younger Buckley had long struggled to escape the label of "Tim's son." He had met his father only once, at age 8. Tim Buckley left home the year his son was born, a fact that may have fueled the melancholy, beauty and despair that swirled within Jeff's songs. In one of his own final acts of grace, Buckley said to a close friend, "Remember that I forgive my father, and I just have to move on." He seemed to be doing just that when he was pulled under.

12. a trope you're really into right now
I'm really into letters/diaries/other in-character writings within a story. I love figuring out a writing style for a character and having there be discrepancies between what they're saying in writing and what they're thinking in the narration. This is a small thing, but, in Tonight, Tonight, when it's Jonathan's POV, he almost always thinks of Lonnie as "Lonnie," not "Dad" or "his dad." That man is not a parent to him, but an encumbrance and a threat. But, in letters to Nancy, he's initially saying "my dad" because, while he's being honest with her about some things, he doesn't want to reveal the extent of how dysfunctional their relationship is. But, in the most recent letter to Nancy, he sometimes writes "Lonnie." The gap between what he tells her and what he's thinking is getting smaller.
24. how do you recharge when you're not feeling creative?
I like to watch movies, especially movies I've seen before but not in a while. I don't sit down and watch a whole movie as much as I used to so it's refreshing.
29. how easy is it for you to come up with titles?
Pretty easy! They're mostly song lyrics and I usually have at least a serviceable idea. That being said:
Sometimes a title feels less apt once I've started posting a WIP. Tonight, Tonight, the Highway's Bright (from Bruce Springsteen's "Racing in the Street") was a title I originally came up with when there was going to be more stuff about cars in the story and Jonathan's half was set in New Jersey. At certain points I have wished that I had gone with The Devil's Right Hand instead of Drive All Night, although right now I don't feel that way at all.
I have way more trouble with chapter titles, because I usually feel like they have to be themed, and some chapters are easier to title than others.

Hi! Hope this doesn't take too much of your time! 😅
3, 5, 13, 18, 23, 29, 30.
oh don’t be silly you of all people would know how much i love to talk 🥰 however this IS proving to be a much larger scale endeavour than i expected bc i did get a lot (or way more than i expected!) which i love so much but i am kinda sleepy atp and so apologies if it’s not as wordy or eloquent as it may have been otherwise!
3: A song that reminds you of summertime
already said view by shinee and that’s definitely theeee summer song to me but let’s add i’m on fire by bruce springsteen and i honestly couldn’t tell you why bc it’s literally not even a summer song i just associate it with summer sooo much like you’re home alone after a bonfire and you can’t even fall asleep with how hot it is but you’re not sure if it’s from the summer heat or the intensity of your desire. SO summer to me ❤️‍🔥
5: A song that needs to be played LOUD
like it by shinee!!! my number one song on 2023 wrapped and one that i will play SO loud it busts my ear drums and love it each time. i need that instrumental and those gorgeous angelic adlibs IN my headdddd it’s SO fucking GOOOOOD
13: One of your favorite 80’s songs
i said raspberry beret in an earlier ask and i wanna add another song i coincidentally also listened to today - pour some sugar on me by def leppard ! so good btw when they say they can’t get enough they’re not lying
18:A song from the year that you were born
i actually had to look this one up and got so pleasantly surprised when i saw fantasy by mariah carey!! 🦋💓 one of my fav mariah songs heheee
23: A song that you think everybody should listen to
adding on to the already mentioned freedom by beyoncé and eat your young by hozier i actually don’t think everybody should listen bc it will for sure make me lose my mind and start crying if i’m not in the right headspace so tread carefully but i also think it’s such a beautiful piece of lgbt art - send my love to john by rina sawayama about her friend’s formerly unaccepting mother finally accepting her son being gay. ik there’s a happy ending to the story but it’s so bittersweet in how it shapes you and your relationship to those around you but let me not get too into it! an absolutely gorgeous moving listen imo.
29: A song that you remember from your childhood
i remember so very little from my childhood jdksjdk but one of the first songs i remember listening to on the tv and asking my dad to replay over & over again was buttons by pussycat dolls i mean go figure! i was already 10 years old at that point but the only things i remember from before that are like croatian kids songs shdkdjdk
30: A song that reminds you of yourself
after the beep by tanerélle.. SO me literally every word but i shan’t get into it. let me just say it’s especially the ‘i can’t wait around baby not me’ part .. ouh she gets it

For the song ask: 3, 10, 14 (😏), 15, 19, 29 & 30!
omg Isabel 🥺💖
3: A song that reminds you of summertime
Nils Koppruch - Kirschen (wenn der Sommer kommt). Songified Sommerleichtigkeit 💛 I've also just had a look at the comment section and it's lovely to see that people still remember Nils and his music so fondly 💞 he really was one of the good ones
10: A song that makes you sad
did you mean: my entire music library. Hmm, let's go with Thees Uhlmann - Immer wenn ich an dich denke, stirbt etwas in mir. It took a while for that song to grow on me, but now it's got a special place in my heart. Especially the lines Ich bin der Letzte mit einem Bierglas / In einer Welt voller Champagner / Die Welt ist von sich selbst besoffen / Aber ich bleib beim Bier just hit differently idk
14: A song that you would love played at your wedding
I mean.... we've already agreed that Böhmi's versions of Señorita and Malle ist nur einmal im Jahr should be played at our wedding 🤣😏 but apart from that, I'd also like to propose Thees Uhlmann - Römer am Ende Roms. It's a song about getting married that manages to reference both Bruce Springsteen and Shakespeare - what more could you possibly want from a wedding song!! And Loch Lomond for the last dance would be fun, too. (I really put way too much thought into this for someone who doesn't really care that much about marriage as a concept lmao)
15: A song that is a cover by another artist
Camp Cope - Seventeen Going Under (originally by Sam Fender) Okay, so I love Sam Fender and I love Camp Cope and the original song is a fucking masterpiece and they managed to make it their own without ruining anything. And the small changes to the lyrics and the way that Georgia absolutely slays this!! And when she sings I was far too scared to hit him / but I would hit him in a heartbeat now..... it feels quite different compared to when Sam does it but it still feels like a punch in the chest, y'know?
19: A song that makes you think about life
Gang of Youths - The Deepest Sighs, the Frankest Shadows I like that this song turns the whole... the human existence (or even the cosmos as a whole) has no objective value or meaning thinking into something that's actually life-affirming. Because it's about creating and ascribing your own meaning and finding value in your life and building relationships with others that create meaning and that allow you find value in each other. And that's definitely an idea that I can identify with. And the line I will stand in the darkness and laugh with my heel on its throat just makes me go feral for some reason haha
29: A song that you remember from your childhood
Blondie - Maria. Let's pretend that a lot of my musikalische Frühprägung didn't consist of the likes of Pur etc I was... 9? when this song came out and it was played a lot on the radio and I didn't understand a single word of the lyrics, but I loved Debbie's voice and it's just such a banger.
30: A song that reminds you of yourself
The Weakerthans - Aside 💕

For the music ask game
24 and 29
💚
Thankyou @grogusmum! Ooo, this really is hard!
24: A song by a band you wish were still together
This was hard because the bands I like are still together in some shape or form - but the one that popped into my head was Oasis because when they were good they were good and I had this one in my head the other day.
29: A song that you remember from your childhood
There are so many! Where do I start? I'm going to have to go with Springsteen and these two stick out the most. Memories of driving the M25 as a kid with my family, and having the responsibility of picking out the cassette tape my dad would want on ❤️️
and...
