did Codeacademy used to be cool? I vaguely remember it being pretty cool, but I just checked it out and it requires you to create an account or log in with social media and has a massive ass-covering TOS/Privacy policy for giving your usage data to “vendors” and using it for in-house stuff 8I
tracked the company through various acquisitions and mergers over the last 3-4 years and it’s now owned by some megacorp investor firm called Clarivate... my personal feelings about that aside, I’m just kinda curious if the site was always that way or if my memories of a chill free code tutorial site are just misplaced?

Found a super fun game to help learn coding. It’s more geared toward kids, but hey! I will take what I can get. Playing in between codeacademy lessons, and the courses for my Bachelors, before we run our errands for the day. 🤓 #datascientist #girlcoder #dataeveryday #66daysofdata #codeacademy #codecombat https://www.instagram.com/p/Cgrc_DGAA4D/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

https://bit.ly/434ASfI - 🔒 A security vulnerability was recently discovered in the Open Authorization (OAuth) implementation of Expo, an open source platform for developing mobile apps. The flaw, tracked as CVE-2023-28131, could potentially expose user accounts, personal data, and even facilitate financial fraud. This is due to OAuth's function as a facilitator of social media login across multiple platforms, like Facebook or Google. The discovery was made by Salt Security's Salt Labs, and this finding poses risks to hundreds of websites and apps that use Expo's framework for user authentication. #CyberSecurity #OAuth #ExpoPlatform 📱OAuth's widespread use in modern service-based architectures and AI-based platforms highlights the severity of such vulnerabilities. In separate research, DoControl, a SaaS security firm, revealed that 24% of third-party AI apps require risky OAuth permissions. This reinforces the need for secure implementations of OAuth across all applications and websites. The flaw within Expo was promptly addressed, with a patch being released hours after Salt researchers brought the issue to light. Despite this quick resolution, the inherent complexity of OAuth configurations suggests there might be undiscovered flaws within other apps and websites. #OAuthVulnerability #AI #CyberRisk 🔍The vulnerability was initially discovered in https://bit.ly/3ODash1, a platform offering free coding classes. The platform boasts around 100 million users, with companies like Google, LinkedIn, Amazon, and Spotify using the site for employee training. The flaw, if exploited, could have led to personal data leaks, financial fraud, or actions performed on behalf of users on their social media accounts. It essentially exposed the possibility for credentials to be sent to a malicious domain instead of the intended website. #Codeacademy #DataLeak #AccountSecurity 🔧OAuth's popularity comes from its ability to provide a seamless user experience. However, its complex, technical back-end can lead to implementation mistakes, which can create security gaps. To secure an OAuth implementation, organizations must have a deep understanding of OAuth's functioning and the potential endpoints that may receive user inputs. Validating these inputs and implementing strict validation methods is a must. Salt Security intends to release a best-practice guide in the future to assist enterprises in effectively securing their OAuth implementations.

Art by @decodingkunst Divide and drool What do you see here? (Let me know in the comments) These simultaneously look like a few different things to me - XRay images of baggage, blueprints of digital appliances and at times urban clusters, among others. One of the interesting things about algorithmic art is how simple algorithms can trigger complex perceptual cues. Evaluating Self-Paced Learning Site
I chose the self-paced learning site, CodeAcademy. I was instantly intrigued by the design of the website, its easy navigation and the simple colors and designs. Immediately I decided to make an account using my Google email on my school account. It was seriously so simple -- all I had to do was click on the Google logo and choose which email I wanted to create an account with, no password creation required. The site then asked if I what I wanted to learn, giving me the option to browse what there was to offer or if I wanted something recommended to me. I ended up choosing a recommendation where the site lead me to 4 simple questions to customize a recommendation for me.
Purpose, Interest, Knowledge and Usage are all the site wanted to know before recommending me a lesson to learn. I answered the questions and was interested in Web Design. To my surprise, the site recommended a lesson I was very interested in - Build a Website with HTML, CSS, and Github Pages. Best part about it was it was allowing me to complete it for FREE with a 7 day trial.
I have recently learned a lot about coding and its fundamentals through my summer internship and a coding class. I found myself a lot more interested in coding than I originally had thought, so this recommendation was perfect for me. I am planning on doing a few lessons on the site and learning as much as I can with the free trial.

in 8th grade I had a teacher who, unbeknownst to me, would have a profound impact in my life, despite only having her for one term.
no one really liked her or her class, mostly because she was mean and had an off-putting laugh. but what I remember most was that she hated being asked questions. you know that saying "no such thing as a stupid question"? the opposite was true in her classroom. if you came up to her confused on an assignment, she would sigh, roll her eyes, glare at you, and ask "....did you google it?"
why she became a teacher is beyond me; she seemed to loathe every aspect of her job. but looking back, I am grateful that she instilled the value of learning things for myself and looking up dumb questions before bothering someone else with them.
I'm reminded of this because I'm leaving one of my jobs, so I have to teach my elder millennial boss how to canva. some of the things she asks me make me want to sigh, roll my eyes, and say "google it." I think I've come full circle now.
