Red Army Faction member arrested in Germany after decades on the run

A former member of the left-wing militant group Red Army Faction has been arrested after more than 30 years on the run, German authorities said on Tuesday.

The Bild newspaper, citing unnamed security sources, reported that 65-year-old Daniela Klette was arrested in Berlin on Monday night.

Klette is one of three former members of the Red Army Faction who have been wanted by police for several years. Klette, Ernst-Volker Staub and Burkhard Garweg were involved in at least 12 robberies in northern Germany between 1999 and 2016. They were also wanted for attempted murder. Authorities speculate that the motive behind the robberies was money rather than any political considerations.

You ever watch a movie that has the potential to make one of the most ground-breaking anti-war & anti-american imperialism/exceptionalism statements and then it just... doesn't. And you want to start screaming at the writers because they took a unique, groundbreaking idea and tossed it into the bin in order to end up writing yet another "US military saves the day from the Bad Eastern Europeans!" mediocre 1 hour and 50 minutes.

Anyway, that was my experience with Netflix's 'Spectral' in a nutshell.

#at least it was visually stunning but like you had the potential to have the ghosts of the people the US military murdered rise upZ #-to take revenge against those who slaughtered them. the potential for the US army to have to face the consequences of their actions #and in the end... nopeTM they are Actually the heroes again & the 'ghosts' were just Evil Eastern European Weapons or sth.#spectral #netflix spectral #anyway. great unused concept to perhaps use and develop further for an original story of mine.

Also, keep in mind that it's only one Russian army unit, and it's only one not-so-large Ukrainian city that the Russians are unsuccessfully trying to conquer, and it's only one day of the war, and the Russian army does not collect all its dead, ...and the flow of information is heavily restricted by Russian war censorship (also many Western media controlled by the Kremlin's oil money are quite careful to hide the real extent of Russian army losses and real war scenes)...! The actual manpower loss of the Russian army is much, much higher...

one small thing that bugs me about disco elysium is the lack of Fantasy Jews. i mean every setting that creates analogues of real world cultures tends to forget about us (i am generously overlooking when they make us into goblins or some shit). but still, idk, it'd be cool, and for the setting you'd figure we'd factor in a little. idk though, i know a decent amount about the history of jews in american socialism but little about our role in european communism especially outside of the ussr. there were certainly jewish communist movements within the ussr but most of us would've been gone long before the fall of the soviet union ig.

#i suppose im mostly interested in it bc my family was around in roughly that time period in western europe #ukraine and romania primarily (moved around very often)#and per my mom my ulta ULTA zeyde was a massive trotskyist #and i belieeeeeeve he was first in our family to come to canada (and then the us)#so if i haven't totally fucked the timeline he was around maybe... a couple decades before de is mostly set #i mean its an anachronistic setting and i am also talking out my ass here but #most of my family stayed behind ( greatgreatgrandpa left to dodge the draft <3)#which is a whole historical thing abt the russian army initially refusing to admit jewish soldiers and then switching it #essentially to use us as cannon fodder for a losing war #but i don't remember the exact timeline there so #that may have not been when we came to the us but when we left russia for bordering countries #anyway regardless. would be cool to have jews is all #particularly bc the game tackles fascism head on but then ignores one of the biggest factors in esp european facism #honestly we could be somewhere in measureheads ramblings and i just didn't make the connection

EU to join the US operation in the Red Sea

The European Union said on Wednesday that member states would contribute to the US-led Operation Prosperity Guardian, aimed at protecting merchant shipping in the Red Sea from attacks by Houthi rebels from Yemen.

Josep Borrell, the EU’s top foreign policy official, commented on the EU’s involvement in Operation on X:

Irresponsible Houthi actions are a threat to freedom of navigation in the Red Sea. We will intensify our information sharing and increase our presence with additional naval assets. This demonstrates the EU’s role as a maritime security provider. We match words with action.
