The scenario of wanting him to change would be hard, you can't just open it with "be better" But you can tell him he deserves another chance, that you want to help him That you trust him And after losing so much Maybe he'd take that Especially from buddy, who was clearly actually weak Bc bringing him home and telling him you trust him, when he could so easily kill you, could be a wake up call!

He is quite fixable when you look at the root problem Which is. Guy wants to be respected Dumbed down a lot but u get me I just think that the guy who clearly lived a very rough life and wanted the world in shambles (likely because of what it did to him) could be 'fixed' Like I can't say much on his early life that isn't headcanons and speculation but You don't usually become a mercenary for … fun…! And always being on the move like that can't be good His main character fault is his huge ego which can easily be brought down to a manageable level ? Otherwise just. Dream Smp Characters as sports

(/rp and all insulting of characters and sports are incredibly /lh)

Dream – Orienteering

Orienteering while not actually just a rich person activity gives off some rich kid vibes. It also ties in with Manhunt, which is not canon, it’s just kind of cool that it does, and it involves actively looking for something which kinda ties into his character as he is a very driven individual who tends to know how he wants to achieve what he wants. It can also be a solo sport or a group sport which sort of ties into how he works equally well with other people and alone. Also, it may just be my school, but I noticed it can make some people really bitchy.

Sapnap – Racing

This is mostly because it’s really cool and I think Sapnap is cool. Racing does require you to have a quick reaction time which Sapnap seems too often to make (sometimes poor) decisions quite quickly. When I think of racing, I think of those cool hot wheel cars with the flames on and Sapnap is the fire guy. Racing is also quite dangerous and competitive which suits Sapnap as he has little regard for safety and is a very competitive person.

Awesamdude - Swimming

I feel like this one kinda works because the Prison shower convo shows he finds comfort in water and also it also kind of fits his character arc with it be more relaxed at first and suddenly getting very intense. The green hair on his twitch pfp really reminds me of mermaids as well as him being pretty early to get a trident and his aims to protect people, especially kids which reminds me of lifeguards.

Ponk – Football

This one like most of these is predominantly based on vibes, but it being a team sport which also fits in with how well Ponk works with others, as well as the community around football teams, being very dedicated which reminds me of how much he talks to chat. Also, the singing in his streams which he’s very good at reminds me of the singing at football games- even if they’re often less than great.

Tommy – Aerial arts

I like this because for him because it's very based on performing, which he seems to enjoy often taking part in plays as the leads, and singing a lot, even partaking in karaoke. Another reason it fit with the with the performance aspect is because he likes to show off to other people and get a lot of his stability from validation from others. It also kind of fit as it very colorful and he has a very colorful personality. It also looks easy, but it hurts like a bitch and will give you so many bruises and blisters, it’s much harder than people think, and you have to be flexible. It’s also usually done to music which his character is largely based around, and fits in with a lot of fanon (wingedinnit, moth boy, spiderman)

Tubbo – Roller blading

I like this mostly because of the 80’s vibes that rollerblading gives off to me and how that fits in with cold war thing he’s got going on. It’s also just seems like a very controlled chaos, with a lot of highs speeds and different things going on which really matches how I interpret Tubbo’s character. It also is really good for hanging out with friends and Tubbo is a pretty good friends most of the time, and the music tubbo uses in his streams always reminds me of rollerblading.

Purpled – Darts

This nearly 100% because it’s a cool mercenary thing, but also because seems to be really popular with teenage boys. It also takes a lot of precision and you can make a fair amount of money from it. It also looks pretty dangerous, but I’ve played darts like twice lmao.

Eret – Rounders

It has got Summer vibes which I feel eret also has pretty strongly, and fairly chill which most of the time eret is. There is also the love it or hate it nature of the game which I feel is also true for the fandom as a whole. Rounders is pretty posh which I think fits with the whole monarch thing. It can also get very ruthless very fast and is pretty good for friends, and Eret seems to like his friends and want to make/make amends with more.

Niki – Ballet

It really reminds her because it is very elegant but takes a lot of effort to keep it that way and it tends to be associated with gentleness but takes a lot of strength and has been used as a form of protests pretty frequently, reminding me of the pogtopia era and can be used to tell stories.

Quackity – Horse riding

It involves a lot of Gambling pretty frequently which is a big theme in his current arc. He has also seemed to really appreciate Boner and even when he horsenapped Carl he didn’t really harm it. Making money in horse riding relies a lot on Rich people and there is a lot of money to be made.

Technoblade - Fencing

I generally associate it with Techno because he uses sword predominately for combat in recent times, and often does the thing where you talk casually with the person you’re fighting with. He also doesn’t take fights seriously.

Philza – Tai chi

I like this one because it is really good for your health, which assume is necessary if you are an immortal/ feared fighter/ angel of death. It’s also pretty relaxing which Phil can be to his allies. It’s also peaceful but started a martial art, and he’s been more peaceful than normal recently. Also, it’s very popular with old people.

Ranboo – Ice skating

Ranboo is a pretty awkward person and ice skating can be really awkward like trying to be able to practice by getting up really earlier and being sleep deprived, or trying to avoid little kids at public skates, but at the same time avoiding hockey skaters who are not avoiding anyone, also just struggling with a move in front of everyone who somehow seems to get it despite it making zero sense. Although ice skating is done on frozen water and sometimes you can end up a little soggy, it not that much so it should be fine. It also gives him a link to the rest of the bench trio in music and specifically to Tubbo in the skating aspect. He also lives in generally cold places joining the smp in winter and living in snowchester and techno’s thingy. Skating also has the black and white color with the whole gender roles skate’s thing and people’s general choices for costumes, and it also feels more mature than it actually is like Ranboo. Also, it meant to be a lot hard for tall people and Ranboo is like seven-foot or something so while that doesn’t add to it's kinda funny.

Skeppy – Disco dancing

The Box head that people draw him with just has disco vibes, and his skin is pretty brightly colored and he’s a pretty fun dude

Wilbur- Archery

I feel like it suits him because it’s pretty calming but very violent and deals with conflicts from afar, it also a solo activity which means he could still practice it in the later days where he was more antisocial, also can be practiced with minimal equipment which is good because he is often poor and/or exiled.

First off, I just feel like y’all would make one hell of a cute throuple. Like, for real I can’t stop shipping y’all together.

Talk about the most laid-back and fun relationship ever. Both guys don’t take things too seriously and I feel they would be down to try anything.

So, if you’re feeling particularly spontaneous or get wrapped up in a new interest I could see them just going along for the ride and joining in on the fun. Say you get into an art phase. Like, you go all out buying supplies and whatnot. They’d be right beside you trying to paint, cross-stitch, whatever. I just see them taking part in whatever your current interest might be.

Keigo might say some sarcastic comments like, ‘Oh, yay! A new thing to waste our time & money on.’ But, don’t listen to him. Lol. He won’t admit it, but he actually finds your phases really cute. Plus, he actually likes how you open him up to other things he wouldn’t think he’d like. Taishiro, however, gets just as wrapped up as you. Lol.

Your food now...Damn. The 1st time you ever cooked for Taishiro he was hooked. Doesn’t matter what you make, this man is down. You want to try a new recipe? He’ll be your guinea pig.

It’s not a well-known fact, but Keigo is actually a pretty good cook. So, I could see the two of you cooking meals together and trying each other's new creations, bouncing ideas back and forth between each other. Lol. Expect him to play around a little bit, though. This is Keigo we’re talking about.

Both guys are very supportive of you wanting to go to culinary school, love. You follow your dreams. Your men are behind you every step of the way.

When you’re feeling a little stressed out or get the urge to partake in some “herbal medicine” I feel like Keigo would be the one to join you. He gets pretty chill when he’s on his high. Taishiro, however, tries not to partake. Lol. There was the whole ‘Munchie Incident of 2020’. His hit was a bit too strong that night and the munchies that ensued were quite insatiable. You and Keigo had fallen asleep only to awake later to see your entire house cleared of food. Poor baby was so embarrassed, he swore he’d never do that again. Lol. So, he leaves that to you and Keigo.

Lord have mercy, when Keigo and Taishiro get together. Those two put the Weasley twins to shame. So, I hope you’re up for getting pranked on. Lol. But, don’t worry Taishiro won’t let things get too out of hand.

Taishiro tends to stand as the responsible party in your relationship. Lol. Keigo’s mouth tends to get him into trouble and mix that with your slight authority problem and well...You see why Taishiro has his hands full with y’all. :)

Taishiro is that stable, kind, supportive man, while Keigo is the funny, wise-ass, who secretly has a sensitive side. Speaking of which, because of his past, letting his emotions out has always been difficult but since getting together with you he’s been able to open up a bit.

PDA:

Each man brings a little something different to the table.

For instance sweet, romantic kisses and bear hugs are practically guaranteed with Taishiro.

Meanwhile, with Keigo...PASSIONATE kisses. Plus, this man likes to cuddle. Although, don’t expect him to admit to that. As mentioned before, he’s not the best at showing his emotion but baby boy does love you.

Jealousy? A little bit. Mainly on Keigo's end, though. You might not notice it, but Keigo is envious of the relationship you and Taishiro have. You guys just seem to be so much alike that he gets a little envious, at times. Taishiro, on the other hand, is the most secure in the relationship. He loves the fact that you and him have so much in common, but he also likes the sarcastic whims that Keigo brings to the relationship. He just knows you can count on him to bring humor to any situation.

Overall, this is just a great relationship. You guys just bring out the best in each other and aren’t afraid to try new things. Plus, what’s not to like being in a relationship with your best friends. Well, that and both guys are super hot, let’s be honest. Lol. But, really. I ship y’all so hard.

Where to start. Lol. Y’all are the most boisterous bunch EVER.

But, omg! It would be such a fun relationship.

I could just imagine you guys just talking for hours on end and never getting bored. Like, just imagine late-night convos under the stars on the roof of the base.

Whether you’re all together or one on one, the conversation just flows so easily between y’all. I think that’s one of the biggest selling points in this relationship. I mean, would you really want to be in a relationship where you can’t talk with someone? It’d be so boring.

Just like with Fatgum/Hawks, I see Magna/Asta being just as into your interest phases. These guys are such a spontaneous bunch. Lol. And, can you just imagine the humor and shenanigans that would ensue. Omg. I’d think you’d probably die from laughing so much. Especially, when the two start going at each other.

Just don’t leave these two alone together for too long. That’s when bad things tend to happen. Lol. These two LOVE to prank you. If you thought Fatgum & Hawks were bad...Honey, there’s no responsible party member here. Lol. You’ve been warned.

One funny thing about your relationship is how your cat reacts to them. Surprisingly your cat loves Magna, Asta though...Lol. Much like the anti-birds, your cat attacks Asta in nearly the same way. He doesn’t seem to understand why the cat hates him even after he’s brought him treats and toys. It’s sad, but oh boy...is it a funny sight to see.

Both babies LOVE your cooking. Like, when they hear you’re cooking they’re the first ones sitting down and practically drooling all over the table when you finally bring the food out. And, while you yourself aren’t a fan of spicy food you know Magna is and you always try to make sure to satisfy his spice cravings. Just know Magna never expects you to do that for him but he appreciates all the effort you make for him. It’s one of the many little things he loves about you. Now Asta...the boy has already guzzled down half of the buffet you laid out for the rest of the Golden Bulls. Lol. Have I mentioned he loves your cooking?

PDA:

Both babies are pretty affectionate and playful.

However, Asta is a little inexperienced, but he does his damnedest to impress you. He’ll get you flowers and let’s not forget he’d show off. A LOT. Lol.

Asta’s kisses are passionate, but a little sloppy. Like I said, he’s a little inexperienced, but after some time he’d get better. He just gets so passionate and excited that kisses often are a little rushed and sloppy. But, just know he just gets so excited whenever he’s around you he just can’t contain his emotions.

Magna...I see him actually being a romantic at heart. He’d be the smoother one of the two for sure. He loves to whisper compliments into your ear and give you forehead kisses. Plus, his kisses are...ugh. He’s a good kisser. And, that smoldering look he gives you when he goes to lean in...RIP.

Jealousy is normal between y’all. Mainly in terms of ‘you’re hanging out with so and so too much’ or ‘it’s my time with them’. They’re just like kids fighting over a toy at times. Especially Asta. Lol. That boy is just so in love with you. He just wants all your attention. Magna gets jealous too, but he mainly just fights over you to annoy Asta. These two I swear. Lol.

These boys love you so much, though. So, despite all their idiosyncrasies they always support you in whatever you choose to do. And, if you’re ever feeling low you can guarantee they’d be right there to lift you right back up. They love seeing you smile and laugh. You’re their baby and they’d do anything for you.

Any tips got people starting their creative writing degree in September? Xxx

oh this is a great question!! sometimes I forget I will literally be an upper year next year :) how did this happen :) still feel like I’m in grade 9 :) lol! but I do have tips!

1. Trust in the process

Okay, this sounds a little gimmicky, but what I mean is, let things happen the way they’re going to happen. I was extremely prepared when I entered first year, and even more prepared for second year, and I’m not saying this is a bad thing--in fact, I recommend having something small (even an idea) at the ready, just in case of emergency writer’s block, time constraints, etc, but I’d love to go back in time and tell myself to chill! I wanted so badly to experience the idea of the Ideal Writing Degree Experience, and so kind of missed out on the actual (great) experience I had in front of me! so let it happen! Take creative risks! stray from your plan if your gut is telling you to!

2. Get involved

In first year, I found it SO helpful to get involved in writer events, or clubs on my campus. I joined my department’s lit journal (which I shall be managing in the fall!) as an intern, and made sure to attend most, if not all the writing events they had on campus, including general fine arts mixers. Though I am a super introverted person, it was actually super fun to make connections, and even so, just make memories of faces that I could later recognize on campus. This is also super helpful for getting to know people in your program! On orientation day, I really tried to huddle with some other Writing undergrads, and that was super fun because we just chatted about our writing backgrounds, etc! If you’re anxious like me, coming up with literal talking points could be helpful the night before, kind of like an “About Me” refresh?? Like, oh my name is Rachel and I write literary fiction, also I am from Toronto, would be what I would say in case someone asked (usually people were very excited to hear I was from out of province lol so this worked as a great talking point!). ALSO!! off campus events! go to readings! Readings are 100% more accessible to attend where I go to school versus where I live at home, and so I def took advantage of this by making sure to go out to multiple literary events! It’s nice to make connections, chat with the readers, or even other audience members! Usually people asked me if I was a student and what program I was in, etc, and because being a Writing major is kind of a Fun Thing To Be at a reading, this was always a great talking point!

3. Remember your writing degree is still work

I know a lot of creative degree pals give this advice to remind undergrads that their creative work for school is still work so they should sit down and do it rather than leaving it to the last minute, but I kind of like to flip this idea on its head by saying: it’s okay to prioritize your “non-academic” work versus your “traditionally academic” work! For example, I took many, many English classes this year, and put about 20x more of my time into those classes than my literal writing classes. I am a writing major?? lol! I could’ve gotten an English degree closer to home?? I did not come here for this?? I think it was easy for me to write off putting time into my writing classes because I was “good at that” and “needed to focus on my academic work” (whatever academic even means), but if you’re there for writing, don’t be afraid to actually... do your writing?? Fighting internalized stigma about my own degree is something I still work on! It’s still work! Which means it’s hard, and you should take breaks (and extensions if necessary/if you can) just like with any other work.

4. If you want to, prep a little

Like I mentioned above, this could be a helpful thing to do, though I do caution over preparation because that was me!! and I feel like one may learn more if they have more room to fail (which sometimes preparation reduces?) but this is also dependent on the type of person and student you are, so disregard if necessary! When I entered first year, I didn’t prep actual work, but made sure I knew what was expected of me so I could mentally prepare myself, haha. I knew there were 5 assignments for 5 different genres (because of COVID they actually axed 1 genre which I am GRATEFUL for rip playwriting), so I kept this in mind throughout the term. If I got an idea for a poem but knew we wouldn’t be doing poetry for the next term, I’d write the poem in advance, or write down the idea. A little bit of prep can help alleviate stress especially if you’re transitioning out of high school, but I do tend to overdo it!

5. SUBMIT your work!!!

This is also totally okay NOT to do if you don’t want to publish your work, but if you are interested in curating a portfolio, it doesn’t hurt to start submitting your work early to literary magazines! I know some people are too nervous to send out their work in first year, but if you’re comfortable with it and want to, go for it! I submitted my work for the first time in first year, and got 2 stories published. If you want to be published, you don’t have to wait for upper years to put your work out there! If you have a piece you like, send it out! This also includes on-campus writing contests if your school runs these. I entered one not thinking anything of it and won first place (HOW), and these experiences were fantastic in shaping my experience in the program and also showing me submitting your work is not so scary!

6. Talk to your profs and TAs

Y’ALL I did not realize how much I talk to my profs and TAs and how much the pandemic took that away from me! It’s so critical to form relationships with the people who are teaching you, not only because they’ll help you to shape your work, but also because they’re a great start to networking! In first year, I sat down with my TAs or prof for literally every single piece I wrote, and the amount I learned is astronomical. I guess this depends on your program, but generally, writing programs are generative based rather than super lecture heavy, and you learn by doing hands-on work (workshops, etc). I learned so much (sometimes, even more) by talking to my teachers. They want to help you and it’s a great way to get to know them. I only attended office hours once in COVID (and it was Zoom office hours), and I certainly feel a difference in my experience. Reach out! When I took an intro journalism course, my prof line-edited every one of my pieces by hand, and while it was nerve-wracking because she is a fantastic writer and a tough critic (and literally right in front of me), it was so rewarding when she’d point out where I’d improved. She was also great at taking her time to explain how I could better my piece. You can’t do that if you’re sitting in a 200 person lecture, but you can if you take some time for a one on one! Highly recommend if you can (coming from someone with social anxiety)!

7. Make friends

I will admit it! I still have not done a great job at this lol. But if you can, try to reach out to your peers. You’re all there to learn, and it’s actually so fantastic to meet likeminded people! My peers are incredibly talented, smart individuals, and when we’re in person, I’d love to chat with them more! In first year, it can be scary to reach out, which is why I did this minimally, though I still made an attempt to jump out of my comfort zone whenever possible. It’s nice to recognize faces on campus and wave at people/have a short conversation before you head into class. Like I said, I interned for my on campus lit journal in first year, so I had to reach out a few times to my classmates to participate in events etc, so this was actually kind of easier for me since I had a lil ~motive that allowed me to muster the courage to chat with people! It could be as easy as joining in on a convo of a subject of interest (for example, a lot of people at my school especially in my program, love D&D. I have no idea what that is/how that works, but if I did, this might be something to talk about if you love it also)! Also - follow people on social media if you can find them, or start a group chat!

8. Don’t be afraid to speak up for your needs

This will be my last tip, and it might be the scariest tip of all, but if you are not happy with how something is going in your degree/classes, speak up about it! If something is not accessible to you, don’t be afraid to speak out about that. Idk if it’s just me, but I’ve been advocating for the betterment of my education since elementary school (why am I like this loooool), but especially in university, you’d be surprised by how receptive some people can be! Shoot your prof or TA an email if you have concerns, and see what they say. Rarely, they can be assholes, but most of the time, they’ll try to work with you to make your class experience better. This is why I also recommend filling out your course evals. Most great profs really want their students to enjoy their classes and succeed, so don’t be nervous to speak out about your needs if xyz isn’t being met.

It’s been some time since the Red Hair Pirates and his S/O have been on land, so Shanks decides it’s time to take a break from the sea and enjoy life out on the town of a nearby island. As a group, they collectively decide to go to a pub to grab some food and enjoy some drinks.

Shanks is such a fun-loving guy, he has the entire pub laughing and partying alongside his crew as if he and his crew weren’t pirates but regulars in this small town pub.

He leaves the party to take a quick restroom break, stealing a quick kiss from his S/O before he leaves. When he returns emptied and ready for more booze, he’s a little surprised at the group of people congregating around his S/O.

Nevertheless, he approaches the group and reclaims his seat next to his S/O and simply listens. What else can he say? He loves people almost as much as he loves parties and booze.

As he’s listening, he can’t help but notice how much praise is being directed toward his S/O, and he feels a sense of pride wash over him. He knows he’s got the perfect partner, and it makes him proud that everyone else sees it, too.

However, that sense of security slowly begins to dissipate as the patrons surrounding his S/O begin to make some rather strong advances toward his partner. At first, Shanks thinks they’re being overly-kind and hospitable to his S/O, but some of the comments are far too out-of-place to not be overt flirtations.

“Your lips look so soft, I just wanna kiss them!”  “You’re so good-looking! What are you doing with a bunch of pirates?”  “Forget about going back to sea! Stay here with me!”

All the while, Shanks couldn’t help but notice how nonchalant his S/O responded to their flirting, almost as if they were oblivious to it or as if they were simply ignoring the patrons. They either downplayed their advances by denying the patrons’ claims or by continuing on with their story as if nothing happened. It had Shanks feeling a little confused as he didn’t expect his S/O to be so unbothered by it.

Now, Shanks is not someone who gets jealous as he’s usually such a carefree guy, but he was stunned by the amount of attention his S/O was getting, especially since Shanks has been holding and kissing his S/O several times since they’ve been at the pub. How could the patrons not have noticed that his S/O is already taken?

Shanks isn’t upset, though. Maybe a little irked, but not upset. As long as they weren’t aggressive with his S/O, he didn’t feel the need to worry. But despite his head telling him that he wasn’t jealous in the slightest, his body language told a different story.

As his arm snakes around his S/O’s waist, he lets out a boisterous laugh and pulls his S/O closer, making them smile. He gives the patrons a knowing look, and it seems that they’ve all had a change of heart.

“Wow, (Name), just look at how popular you are! It almost makes me jealous.~”

 Marco

Marco can be rather busy at times since he’s a doctor and doctors tend to always be on the job, but he doesn’t want his S/O to ever feel like they’re second-best to his occupation. So, he decides to take them out to lunch at a nice café.

On their way to the café, Marco takes his S/O’s hand into his, and the two have a pleasant chat along the way.

Once they’re at the café, they place their order and take a seat at a table near the window and Marco couldn’t be any happier to spend time with his S/O.

It’s not long before the waitress brings out their order, and the two start on their plates. Everything in this moment is peaceful, and Marco makes a note that he should take his S/O out for lunch more often.

They’re not even halfway through their meal when the waitress swings by to drop off a rather fancy-looking dessert, insisting that it was for Marco’s S/O and saying that it was from the person sitting on the other side of the room. The stranger waved at Marco’s S/O, who politely waved back, and the whole interaction seemed very odd to Marco.

Nevertheless, Marco brushes off this peculiar feeling believing that it was just a random act of kindness, and he shares a laugh with his S/O about the awkward situation before resuming their conversation and carrying on with their lunch.

Not long after the incident, another interruption comes along that involves the stranger strutting up to their table and boldly asking to join them. Marco and his S/O look at each other first, unsure of what to say until Marco reluctantly agrees to let him join. Perhaps, they were lonely?

Delighted, the stranger pulls up a chair, and they all share introductions before getting into some casual small talk. Nothing seems to be out of the ordinary until the stranger begins slipping in compliments here and there and asking some rather flirty questions.

Marco isn’t one to jump to conclusions right away, but if his intuition was correct, he has strong reasons to believe that this stranger might be flirting with his precious S/O. But he’d wait it out first and let the stranger test the waters first.

Sure enough, the stranger’s advances soon become more aggressive and anyone could tell that this person was shamelessly flirting with his S/O. Calling them gorgeous, making empty promises, and even making lewd comments about his S/O in hopes of winning their heart.

Marco’s not exactly surprised as he assumed that this was the stranger’s objective from the start. But what he is surprised about is the lack of a response from his S/O who continues to dodge questions and picks up the conversation as if this stranger wasn’t trying to woo them.

He knows his S/O is too loyal to fall for this person, and he knows that they’re too kind to tell the stranger to go away. But that doesn’t stop the sinking feeling he gets in his stomach.

At this point, Marco is no longer smiling like he once was. First, this weirdo interrupts their lunch, and then, they think they can make passes at his S/O and not face any consequences. His S/O obviously wasn’t interested.

But Marco doesn’t want to make a scene or ruin his time with his S/O, so he asks them if they’re ready to head out. When they say “yes,” he asks if they could wait outside real quick while he pays the check. He waits until his S/O is out of earshot before pulling his glasses off and staring coldly at the stranger as blue flames flickered around his hands.

“I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but we’re together-yoi… And I better never catch you with (Name) again-yoi…”

 Ace

Being the second division commander of the Whitebeard Pirates, Ace technically has permission to go on little voyages of his own from time to time as long as he lets Whitebeard know ahead time, and he does just that. His plan is to treat his S/O to a picnic lunch, followed by a day at the beach.

Once they arrive at the island, Ace helps his S/O off the boat and leads them to the shore where they would be spending some quality time alone.  

The sensation of the soft sand between their toes is delightful as Ace and his S/O walk barefoot along the shore, holding hands and keeping a leisurely pace as they enjoyed each other’s company.

When they finally pick a place to rest for a while, Ace begins to lay out the picnic blanket and set out the little sandwiches and side dishes that Thatch had packaged for them. Ace couldn’t believe how perfect the day was turning out to be, and he was truly excited.

Over lunch, Ace and his S/O bask in each other’s company, telling stories, making jokes, and even playfully flirting with each other.

As soon as they’re finished, they decide to play a bit of catch with a frisbee, but before they can get started, another beachgoer comes along. They seem like a regular and they greet Ace and his S/O warmly, so the couple decide it wouldn’t hurt to let them join their game of catch.

All three are having a good time tossing the frisbee back and forth, talking about anything and failing at doing trick tosses. It’s still a good day, Ace thinks.

His mood suddenly changes when the beachgoer offers to take Ace’s S/O to enjoy the water, saying that they couldn’t go to the beach and not enjoy the water.

Ace explains that he can’t go into the water, but the beachgoer insists that his S/O be allowed to enjoy the full extent of the beach, anyways. Feeling bad, Ace agrees, yet he can’t help but feel left out. So, he takes a seat in the sand, pouting his lip.

As his S/O and the beachgoer stand in the ankle-deep seawater, Ace feels his body grow warmer and it’s not because of the sun beating down on him. He regrets letting some stranger join them since he now feels that the day is ruined and so is his mood.

That should’ve been him making his S/O smile. That should’ve been him giving his S/O beautiful seashells. That should’ve been him playfully splashing his S/O. That should’ve been him standing in the water with his S/O if it wasn’t for his Devil Fruit’s side effect. It only it wasn’t for that stupid beachgoer.

But his S/O’s having fun. He’ll be the bigger person and he’ll be selfless for his other half.

This thought is short-lived as Ace picks up on the beachgoer saying his S/O had the most beautiful smile, and a gorgeous laugh, and that they were the most attractive person they’ve ever met. His S/O would shake their head and continue to talk casually as if they weren’t burdened by this stranger’s attempts at flirting.

Yeah, Ace admits he’s jealous. There was no way in hell that that jerk was going to say those things to his S/O, so he stomps his way over to them, feeling his body grow weak as he stepped into the water. He wasn’t that weak, though, as he was still able to shove the beachgoer into the water and bring his S/O closer.

It didn’t matter who it was, if you were bold enough to flirt with his S/O, Ace would straighten you up.

“You’ve got a lot of nerve! (Name)’s taken, and I’m not going to stand by and let you get in our way.”

AF Alice Rank

In the AF Alice rank, Sakura (who plays Alice) tries to revive her theatre group using a magic key.

This post also includes an unnecessarily long analysis of the theatre group series in general.

Shichirin (I really hope I am pronouncing this right), was a famous theatre group, renowned for doing plays of popular fairy tales, whose members all turned into tamashii when Lost happened. Sakura seeks out Chihiro, hoping she will lend her an artefact (AF) that will help her find the missing members.

As it so happens, the Magic Key was recently completed. This powerful AF has the ability to transport its user anywhere they can visualise, by bending the space around them and creating a “door” which is basically a teleportation portal. However it requires a tremendous amount of willpower to control, and, as a tamashii has never used an AF until now, Chihiro has justifiable concerns.

But a Magic Key sounds perfect for a girl who plays Alice, and Sakura assures her she will be able to control it.

Ofc she doesn't, as Takuya and Yuki find out when they are asked to investigate a tamashii that has gone berserk.

Throughout the quest, we see various flashbacks of Alice with the rest of Shichirin, emphasizing how much she loves being in the group, and everyone in it. First, Kanzou (who plays Captain Hook), remarks that she will probably be good enough to replace him as the face of the theatre group soon. Then, Sakura stays back after normal hours to practise more after receiving some advice she got from Kuroe (who plays Tinkerbell). Her enthusiasm cause the other members to also stay back: Yoshiki (Playing Card) and Chizu (Queen of Hearts).

It's very obvious Alice loves the group and that's why she wants to revive them. But just the act of wanting isn't enough. As Chihiro explains when she catches up to us, Sakura’s image of where she wants to go is not strong enough; to make the key obey, Sakura needs to think about not just the act of reviving the group, but also what she wants to do afterward (seems very similar to the predicament of another character in main story). Essentially, the key needs her to have a clear vision of the future in order to behave.

Chihiro also informs us Sakura was close to another actress named Kaede, and apparently they made a promise just before Lost happened. It’s likely to be a clue to making the key behave, but it looks like Sakura has forgotten about the promise after the shock of turning into a tamashii.

We actually did see Kaede in one of the flashbacks. Kanzou didn't want Sakura practising when she should have been taking a break like the others, but he also wanted to acknowledge the work she was putting into her role. So he gives her tickets to see a different production of Alice in Wonderland, by a theatre group called Futaba.

Kaede is the actress of this other Alice. She sees Sakura practising late at night and decides to join her. Sakura praises her for her performance, but Kaede has doubts about her acting, something Sakura can relate to. They decide to practice together.

One day Kaede asks Sakura what she would do if her group hypothetically dissolves. Unlike Shichirin, Futaba is a small theatre group and so such a possibility is always looming over them. After some thinking, Alice replies with “I’ll revive them”, and Kaede agrees she would have given a similar answer. To both Alices, their theatre groups are like family: warm, fun and full of the people they love.

Kaede remarks that every time Sakura talks about Shichirin her eyes light up.

Kaede then says she’d like to see Sakura’s ultimate performance of Alice some day. Sakura makes a promise then and there that she will show Kaede her best Alice performance, as well as her beloved theatre family.

Sakura remembers the promise after some prompting from Yuki.

"That’s right, I made a promise! I can’t stop here!"

She gets the key to work, and awakens it by using it on us. Then she heads off to revive Shichirin.

"After I revive Shichirin, you guys should come watch our performance too!"

In the epilogue Chihiro apologises to Kirihiko. She had no idea the key would go crazy like that, although Kirihiko says Sakura’s will was actually quite powerful and she was able to contain the chaos very well.

Also, we get a hint that Kirihiko might know something more about the Shichirin tamashii?

"So, it’s the Shichirin theatre group. As expected of a member of the workshop I scouted out myself, you’ve selected a great tamashii."

Much Thinking about Nothing

On the topic of this quest, I’d like to take this chance to talk a bit (sorry I actually mean, a lot) about the theatre group in general, which is something I’ve been wanting to do for a while now. Because I feel these series of quests subtly shows just how clever the writers of this game are.

The theatre group Shichirin, comprised of a bunch of actors and actresses in costume, is one of the more distinguishable set of characters in Shoumetsu Toshi. They were a famous group, reknowned for their engaging plays. But they were bought out by the circus group Anglermain (sorry if I spelt that wrong)  and were involved in Lost shortly after that.

Prior to this rank, the only way you would know anything about them is through their advents (a rotating set of quests that are available to almost all players. There are two types: ones that give evolution materials, and ones that give you the tamashii. Shichirin advents are the latter).

Overall the main gist of the series is: Yuki and Takuya are investigating the theatre members to figure out what their last performance was going to be on before Lost. Was it Peter Pan? Or was it Alice in Wonderland? (who really cares tbh. Also they never find out.)

The Shichirin advents have a unique structure:

Sakura has a weird conversation with one of the NPC characters (like Geek or Researcher). She is actually just reciting her lines as Alice but they think she is actually talking to them for real.

Gameplay bit. Takuya and Yuki search for one of the members of Shichirin, and then fight them.

After defeating them, we see a flashback of them talking to Sakura off-stage. It hints at internal politics but as it’s “adult’s business” they tend to leave Sakura out of it.

I’m gonna give my thoughts on each of these, and then relate what we know back to the ranking.

1. Sakura’s convos as Alice are meta af

As mentioned, Shichirin advents begin with NPCs like Geek and Headhunter mistaking Sakura reciting her lines as Alice for actual conversation. The surreal miscommunication can insult, intrigue, confuse and bring new perspectives to them, highlighting the bizarre meta nature of storytelling, dialogue and words in general. Are Alice’s lines just gibberish? Or do they contain a more profound hidden meaning?

The interaction is multilayered, and can be viewed in many ways. First is the interaction between a “child” and an “adult”. For example, Scientist/Eiji dismisses her as a child for who a great scientist like him has no time for. But then she poses the question (or rather, recites her line): How is a dog and table similar? Scientist has something like an epiphany: “Wow I had never considered a perspective like that.” Then ironically when Sakura leaves he wants to chase after her to spend more time probing deeper into her mind.

The other example I like is Headhunter interpreting her words as accusing him of being greedy, which is really more a reflection about how he thinks of himself than anything else. Here we see a parallel between the “innocent” child who knows nothing of the real world, and the jaded adult who knows he is flawed, but also knows there is nothing he can do about it. In fact, Sakura’s innocence is also a key theme in the story of the theatre group, but I’ll come back to that.

Sakura is just an actress, so her lines actually don’t mean anything. But to her audience, they can get many different interpretations depending on their own personal context. It’s very similar to the nature of theatre and storytelling in general. Anyway, it’s all incredibly meta which is why I love it so much (for those who care, my favourite Shakespeare play is Hamlet for the same reason).

The other little thing I appreciate about this beginning section of each of quest is how Sakura’s lines suggest a nickname for everyone. E.g. Geek is Humpty Dumpty and Researcher/Yumiko is Caterpillar (for which she takes huuuge offense). There is probably a deeper meaning to these too, but again, different people will have different interpretations. That’s just the beauty of theatre.

Speaking of different nicknames, let’s talk about the actual tamashii themselves.

2. Every cast member has two names

Shichirin tamashii take on the name of their role (e.g. Tinkerbell, Queen of Hearts, Captain Hook. This also applies to Sakura/Alice, who isn’t even an advent tamashii). The first time we meet them in the advents, they are in costume and behaving just like the character they are acting as. It really is just like interacting with the actual character from the fairytale. It is also a good indication of how passionate they are toward acting, to have their tamashii show forms like that.

So it feels like a very abrupt change when, in the flashbacks at the end of the quest, we see them using their real names (which, until now, we've never seen used anywhere else). Sometimes their personality completely changes too (just like real actors). Thus, there is a clear distinction between what happens “on-stage”, and “off-stage”.

This ranking quest capitalises on that by almost exclusively using everyone’s real names. And this really highlights that these are actual people with authentic interactions. Maybe it is because they behave so differently from when they are on-stage, that their relationships seem so genuine. It gives the feeling of watching a “behind-the-scenes” of a movie or something. And by only seeing things through Sakura’s viewpoint, we get the sense that this is a very close-knit family, without even seeing any of their faces.

3. Something foul is at play within Shichirin

Sakura’s feelings for her fellow cast members, her family, are definitely genuine. However there is a lot she doesn’t know about the happenings off-stage, hinted at in the advents. The overly positive way she announces she will “revive Shichirin” at the end of the ranking also does not bode well.

In the advents, Sakura is treated like an innocent child who knows nothing about the true world of adults. Which I guess by proxy means we don’t really know what’s going on either. There’s something about “taking sides” (Alice in Wonderland vs Peter Pan?), the possible dissolution of the group, and, by far the most interesting, the eventual sale of the group to the circus group (and front for the organisation) Anglermain.

Kirihiko’s words at the end of rank seem to be foreshadowing that we may learn more about Shichirin in the future.

Lastly, can I just say I’m really glad they finally explained Kaede, because having two tamashii called Alice had me confused for so long.

Part 5: Defeating the Maka Yonshou (Again)

The title really says it all.

Back to where we left off last time...

The whale-shaped paopei, Kakoten, is attacking the town, for seemingly no apparent reason. If you've read the manga before, then you'll remember that these are the really devastating type of paopei that was used on the city of Zhou.

Oh hey, it's Youzen!

You don't get to read much of the convo between him and Tensho though, before you're rudely swept off to another area (I think) nearby.

Also, wow, the colors are really messed up here. [That’s not from my emulator, I think it was an intentional game design choice.]

And we get to see Nataku! Yay, it's like one big get-together party!

Unfortunately, the "reunion" doesn't last long, as you're immediately forced into a battle with a guy named Ma Reijyu and more of his annoying Kakotens. [The game forces you into a solo battle here between Nataku and this guy. You get to control Nataku.]

Wait... didn't Ma Reijyu get Houshined already? Anyway, just spam Nataku's third attack (a multi-hit attack), and when the Kakoten (the whale thing) gets destroyed, use your standard attack on Ma Reijyu (the... guy). Nataku's second attack is just a more concentrated attack that costs EP and only hits one enemy. You can use this to defeat Ma Reijyu faster, if you want, though it's not necessary and you'd want to save the EP for the Kakotens (which can respawn).

The Kakotens will go down pretty quickly--Ma Reijyu takes a bit longer to go down, and he'll probably summon another Kakoten during the course of the battle. Don't worry about the Kakoten so much; your main objective is to kill Ma Reijyu otherwise he'll just keep summoning more of them.

Nataku is pretty powerful, even this early in the game, so don't worry about him going down too much. I finished the battle in about 4-5 turns with the above strategy.

After the battle, you're swept back to the village where Youzen and Tensho last left off their conversation.

Anyway, he joins your party! Yay!

...My (Tensho's) level looks crappy in comparison here. orz.

Anyway, Youzen's action button allows him to transform Tensho's sprite into a different character. (Press the s key for the WS camp)

It's pretty fun to mess around with... You get random girl, random dude, another random dude, one of Ryuukitsu's disciples (I think it's Hekiun, judging by the hair), Hakkan (the turtle thing that guards the Houshindai), Hakutsuru Doji (the white crane yousei), a random yokai senin, and my personal favorite:

A sheep.

Yes, a sheep.

Just press the s key again to un-transform. I don't know if Youzen's transformation ability actually serves a specific purpose later in the game, as I've never really had to use it (except for my own amusement). We shall see...  Also, the characters are randomized, so it may take a while to get the one you want. There's nothing you can do about that unfortunately.

Going down from Tensho's house, you'll see this guy--the same guy who was talking to Nataku earlier. (I didn't cap that convo because I was lazy...) His name's Ma Reisei, and wasn't he also Houshined?

Going down again, and to the right, you'll meet TWO familiar faces--Ma Reikou (guy with umbrella) and Ma Reikai (guy with guitar). All together, including the Ma Reijyu guy you defeated earlier, they form the Maka Yonshou. But they were all supposed to be Houshined already, so what gives?!

Anyway, here's one of the rare instances where you can actually pick which boss you want to fight. You can either fight Ma Reisei, or Ma Reikou and Ma Reikai. (Ugh, too many "Ma Rei"s.) Ma Reikou and Ma Reikai are harder, obviously, so if you want an easier time, then go with the Ma Reisei fight.

You CAN NOT fight both Ma Reisei and then Ma Reikou and Ma Reikai, because after completing one battle, they will all run up in front of the palace, grouped together (along with Ma Reijyu, the guy we fought earlier using Nataku). But I'm getting ahead of myself here.

There are slight differences between the two battles, (which makes this chapter a bit of a pain to write...) If you choose to fight Ma Reikou and Ma Reikai, then Nataku will join your party then to fight them. If you choose to fight Ma Reisei only, then it's just you and Youzen on your own. I would personally choose to fight Ma Reikou and Ma Reikai, because you can get exp for Nataku there, which is nice. (He still leaves afterwards, though--but you'll meet up with him again soon enough.)

Either way, if you want to level up now, you're still free to. There's nothing holding you back from exiting the town and going back to either the cave or the spaceship area. (Though it's not really necessary, and its probably best to grind after Nataku joins anyway.)

In this walkthrough, I'll only be detailing how to defeat Ma Reikou and Ma Reikai, as Ma Reisei is pretty easy to defeat without any help. (Though if you do need a suggestion, then just spam both Tensho's and Youzen's standard attack until he dies and use Tensho's healing move as necessary.)

But I might as well just detail Youzen's attacks now:

His standard attack is just a slash with the Sansentou (his trident-looking paopei).

His second attack (costing 3 EP) is one where he sends Koutenken (the giant dog-thing) out to attack enemies. Maybe it's just me, but I personally have a hard time getting this attack to hit enemies, and the damage it deals is about the same as Youzen’s standard attack. So I rarely ever find it worth it to use.

His third move (costing 5 EP) is some kind of supporting attack... I don't know what it does but I think it cures status ailments?

His fourth attack allows him to transform into one of the bosses.

For now you can only transform into one of the members of the Maka Yonshou. (It's randomized which character you turn into, and it costs 20 EP too, so beware of that.)

Youzen's fifth move (costing 5 EP) allows him to analyze the enemy you're fighting, which is pretty useful, I guess; as the enemies/bosses don't come with a hit counter so you don’t know how much HP they actually have.

Anyway, back to actually getting the Maka Yonshou out of town.

(Hint/Tip: You won't fight them until you actually "talk" to them.)

And since I'm fighting Ma Reikou and Ma Reikai, Nataku joins the fray!

Okay, onto how to defeat these guys... They're not as easy as Ma Reisei, but they're not too difficult, either. Just spam Tensho's multi-hit attack, stick to Youzen's standard attack (since, as I've said earlier, his second attack doesn't do much damage for the EP it costs), and Nataku's multi-hit attack.

Ma Reikou and Ma Reikai have some pretty annoying attacks of their own, but just have Tensho heal when it's needed and you should be fine. You should preferably take out the umbrella guy first, as he'll tend to block your attacks. After taking him down, you can just use standard attacks to take the other one down. All in all it still took me less than ten turns to beat them. Everyone should get a level up from the exp.

Now HEAL! And SAVE! Nataku leaves your party temporarily, but he'll join you in the next battle. Like I said earlier, all the Maka Yonshou have gathered in front of the castle.

...I must admit, their color scheme of just black, white, and... maroon(?) does look nice when they're standing next to each other like that.

Talking to them will create this monster:

Annnnnd, now we have to defeat it. Nataku rejoins your party here, at full HP and EP. (If you're wondering why he didn't just stay in your party before, well, that's because of the "split path" the game employs here... since you can choose which boss you wanted to fight earlier.)

Anyway, just use Tensho's standard attack, Youzen's standard attack (and secondary attack, if you want), and Nataku's standard attack. And heal with Tensho when the need arises. Yeah... there's not much in the way of strategy right now... especially with your limited characters and attack moves.

The combined Maka Yonshou... basically has all the attacks of the four members separated--making for a pretty annoying boss battle. But it's still a lot less annoying than those to come. (Oh yes... a LOT less annoying than those to come...)

The most annoying part of the battle is when the monster uses some kind of status effect. It's even more annoying for me since I can't read Japanese.

Oh, you can also do "team" attacks now... One with Tensho + Nataku and Youzen + Nataku. Beware, though; as they cost EP from both characters involved, I think.

Anyway, the reason I don't mention team attacks in the above strategy for this boss is because they're not as effective as the standard attacks... at least, not at this level. You'll be doing much more damage with the characters attacking separately, plus your team attacks can still miss, meaning that when it does, your two characters will have basically lost a turn.

After all is said and done, the boss isn't that hard. So far, for boss battles, I still have been able to defeat the boss in around ten turns or less. And everyone should level up again! Yay!

But then we get thrown immediately into a cutscene. Apparently the monster isn't completly defeated yet, so Tensho goes and throws the meteor he found earlier in the spaceship at the monster and it... dies? Well, talk about your duex ex machina!

After some more talking, you're finally free to walk around again. And the town has returned to normal! And Nataku has officially decided to stay in your party! Yay again!

What are some fun things you think Lars and Sadie do together when just chillin? Think they ever make it to the beach?

hmm well i’d guess that early on their hangings-out was more sporadic and like, on a whim than the most regular occurrence…..since like neither of them really had any friends and so it wasnt so much a matter of like “hey im doing ___ wanna come along” but more of like either having to say im doing this random shit by myself wanna join me & thats harder to be all casual about….and presumably they were both like whups better try not to make things Weird…a fine line of trying to be casual but not like Strategically casual coz then thats weird. rip

tldr i think that had really varied & like, unusual hangout activities lol just coz of their hangouts being more spur of the moment and not wanting it to seem like a Whole Deal

like, they’ve been over to each others houses before, probs to chill or to actually chill or both. and like stuff like, watch something & end up having a like five hour convo abt whatever

im not sure they’d go to the beach a lot just coz of the fact that they have to look at it so much during work….but looking at it isnt the same as being on it, so probably sometimes yeah. but maybe they’d go to like a different part of the shoreline than the boardwalk part…..since that’d be the most crowded at any given time & involve the boardwalk & seeing the place that they work & you might die coz steven’s whole zone of the beach is right there. like, maybe it’d be more like hey lets go to the other side of the town’s shoreline and chill out there huh. kind of out of the way, but that’d just be a pro for them probably

like, i can see them hanging out in parts of the city Not all close to the boardwalk, even if the rest of the town is fairly boring. maybe they’d go like to the next town over if beach city does have adequate public transit but thats still kind of a hassle to do that often. but they could like, walk to a gas station to get an ice cream bar at like 11pm some random night, maybe there’s a park or a library to chill out around, general degenerate teen loitering yanno? parking lot conversations about random shit

i like to think that the underground wrestling was like, their most consistent hanging-out times lol. coz like you don’t really have to worry about that seeming too much like A Whole Thing, right, its just fun and weird and they’re like that, tbh. both secretly fun and weird but they had super boring constraints of work all the time and no friends and a boring small town and trying to avoid their parents. but rasslin is silly and just about yelling and having a good time and being passionate and constructing a persona so whats not to like for those two honestly. wrestling viewing was probably most Their Thing, if they had anything close to a thing

i do also think though that they were hanging out more regularly before lars got abducted by aliens, the way that you do. like, just picking a spot to chill & then just hangin out there, doing whatever. still probs hanging at each others place’s whenever one of them didnt have to worry about parental involvement or anything. and when they hung out outside of their houses i still think of it as mostly kind of “purposeless” chillin like, not so much doing date-y shit like lets go actually do something together, but more like hey whats up, lets walk to this one location and sit there for a while and throw rocks, then decide to go to this other place and sit on the bench there, then swing by that one hill with the trees and see if the sunset looks cool, etc etc. but they at least probably didnt feel as much pressure about like hmm what if that = hanging out Too Much, nah everyone has just accepted that they enjoy each others company, we’re all loser nerds here who like each other and its fine, shockingly

hanging out at work also counts too though. since i am guessing thats how they got acquainted in the first place, inevitable conversations if theyre really the only two working there. plus theyve got that sickass Back Room, totally have a lot of snack break chats and commiserations and all.

those are just the thoughts i tend to have lmao….generally seeing them as like doing just random shit like loitering on the old docks and trying to spot fish and be like “theres a fish. anyways continue”…mostly about talking and getting out of the dang house / work endless cycle and being able to just do nothing and actually socialize in person for a min. i do think also (and like, evidently) that they’ll sometimes go to shit happening around the boardwalk, events and stuff. thats probably more of sadies ideas like hey im gonna check out this thing wanna come & lars is like seriously ugh fine!!!just checkin out the weird events that people put on & being like well alright

i know last post is a joke and it's bc chikage clearly has issues and like i say that all the time that i have 0 standarts but also I'm joking when i say that :( he has a lot of fascinating elements to him and he's much better than that...

(fucktons of spoilers for act 2 underneath) (also it got long)

yeah chikage has a terrible start in the story and he sure has flaws but he's also like a chara who canonically tends to repress his trauma and i could argue that a lot of his bad traits come from that in particular and i have so much sympathy for it (even more so since he begs for help about being saved from it in his character song)

to me it's someone who's been thrown into an awful situation and coped as he could, the fact he considers truth a weakness is indication that he could never feel safe being truthful, and the circumstances of his grief really put the fact he has unhealthy coping mechanism on fire to burn the only person he still cared about.

not to mention i think there's something just to be said about his dedication to stay in the organization to protect hisoka because it's the acknowledgement that his hands are so dirty anyway that he can keep dirtying them if it means he can protect the people he loves, but like again, in his song he begs to "be saved from this fate" so i doubt it's something he's doing because he truly doesn't mind - August wanted to free him too after all, and he knew Chikage better than anyone.

and imo there's a layer of self hatred that comes with being dedicated in staying the monster. just like also in citron's arc he accepts to be "the villain" again and be hated if that's what Citron needs of him, Chikage has no fun at all about it and he doesn't even bother to lie about it either which imo shows how much he's throwing his life away for others.

not to mention his lies are also a reflexion of that - by denying others of knowing about him he's sacrificing a part of his identity to keep everyone's safe and imo the fact he was truthful to Tsuzuru about that ways before he considered the spring troupe family (and that the lie he tells tsuzuru to get him to protect himself is still based on half truth) show that it's not something he's doing out of joy and that even at his worst he still considered ways to protect those people (even if it was for something as simple as he projected August on Tsuzuru that time)

also i do think a few of his deeper lies are based on half truth which i find fascinating. the story he tells Tsuzuru clearly is supposed to evoke August and Hisoka. The lie he tells Sakyo about where he was with Izumi is based on, if you boil it down, "making things right for your sibling" which is still exactly what happened then.

also to anyone who called his lies gaslighting, please actually research what gaslighting is because it's not what he's doing. it's not a synonym for lying. gaslighting implies wanting to make their victim doubt their reality by enforcing that their recolection of an event was made up by them and remplacing said recolection by a lie. it's a manipulation tool to make people think they cannot even trust themselves. and it is a paterns, not a one off thing, because it's a form of long term abuse. Chikage always says he's lying about himself, not about what people think they know, he made it clear that people shouldn't trust what he's saying, the only "lie" he keeps up is about his identity and it's to protect everyone, even in the end he tells Sakyo that he wishes he could tell the truth but he can't share it. "Rather than fooling others, i'm better at fooling myself" as he says in his character song. also another indication than his lies are a coping mechanisms to set distance with his own feelings and keeping people from getting too close, not to manipulate others. (note also that as far as i can tell he never lied to Hisoka, ie the only person who actually knows him).

when people love or relate to a character who sees themselves as the villain, as the monster, there's deeper truth that can be unveilled for that.

and if he's honest about it, considering his thoughts on his mother and step dad(s) i think there is a deep cut into his ability to trust others because of that situation and it is so deep that it's probably more arguments on why he closed himself to this point. also i know ppl are mad at the direction this took and yeah i get it but it's a him problem, he just doesn't want to be touched and I'm still mhmmm at the amount of trust you must have lost from your parents to get to such a level of repulsion.

but without even going that deep a lot of Chikage's fans I've met are Gekka fans and they're especially emotional over his dynamic with Hisoka and his attempts to now make things right toward him. and imo part of the reason Chikage doesn't apologize (which i saw people being angry about) is because he doesn't even forgive himself for the things he's done, he's doing the right thing now because he wants to protect what he loves but i don't think he deserves to be forgiven, which is why he also tried to run away that one time, before he could have this one convo with Hisoka when they talked about their shared trauma.

(tbh add the lyrics to Scarlet Game where Hisoka says "but only i was forgiven" because he's the only one who got out of the organization in the end and allowed to move on while it acknowledge that as long as Chikage remains in the organization he is stuck unable to move on from the horrible things he has done and will do for it. Chikage is like trapped and he picked that fate to make sure Hisoka was safe but it's so sad.)

I'd also argue that considering act 2 acts in pair, with the spring and winter chapter foiling each other and summer and autumn doing so as well, Chikage's family mistrust and how it impacted him can and should be set in parallelism with Guy's situation, because both seem to have been coping with their mother's poor decisions in men and the neglect that followed in letting their kids being hurt and repressing themselves because of that and joining organization where both could be tools with a distance toward their emotions. tho that does rely on Chikage telling the truth about that one thing but so far I'd tend to believe it.

Chikage's copings are a dumpfire and it doesn't help that his grief was so raw that he just fucked up everything, but the amount of trauma that hides underneath is so compelling to me.

also lbr but i also don't trust someone who keeps a potion used to comit suicide on him at all time is someone who is completely at peace with his life. the organization likely wired in all gekka that their lives didn't matter and that they should throw it out for the organization and imo it gave them a unhealthy rapport to death. even the fact Chikage did threatens Hisoka that he "should not come back alive if August dies" the aftermath showed that it's not something Chikage seriously thought. imo i believe Chikage believed that, but when he learnt of Hisoka's death he must have felt partially responsible and realized the weight of his words. while it's an horrible thing to say the fact Hisoka rolled his eyes at it means, imo, that they were both wired in not setting values into their lives anyway. and considering how quickly Hisoka tRIED TO KILL HIMSELF i would actually bet that it extends to Chikage. i believe both of them were wired with suicidal thoughts they could easily act on. again, the fact August tempered with the potions imo really show he expected both brothers one day to kill themselves and he tried to prevent that blaming himself for it. so yeah while what Chikage told Hisoka was awful, they were probably both raised with that mindset, Chikage realized too late the weight of this mindset and has now an opportunity to fix it, but i also think it shouldn't be brushed off that Hisoka acted on it and tried to kill himself and that by all account, Chikage would have a similar thought process.

(also feel like it reflects in their character song of suicidal idealization but in different ways: Hisoka of not wanting to wake up, to keep living in a dream because reality frightens him and he's scared of himself, while Chikage's would probably be more about how he feels like he cannot be saved from his fate. that's overreading though but i think about it a lot)

ALSO (this is the fourth time I'm editing this post with an addition) his spice addiction is something to consider bc I've read a thread about it once and, it seems that, spices unleash specific chemicals that sends a pain reaction to the brain that is answered with andorphine to ease the pain and it is what brings joy out of it. Chikage eats an ungodly amount of spice which is already alarming, he mentions it's the only food he can bear to eat but it took him a long while to appreciate it, so the guy just needed Homemade Chemicals to be stable and ironically those involve pain. it also can product an addiction and we know Chikage feels it that way bc of his "I'm in spice withdraw" line and that in his vampire backstage when he tries to stop eating spice it reflects on his mood a lot, Hisoka gets alarmed by how much of a bad mood Chikage is in. so like... it's not healthy for Chikage to do that and while now he probably eats spice just to eat it and the chemical reactions doesn't do as much effect (like coffeeaddiction) it still is that Chikage had to find ways to cope with his life and now he can't really let go and it's super sad to me?

and it's honestly incredible because i started this post wanting to share very personal reasons Chikage's arc echoed with me but instead with the preface alone it's a character meta that just stands on its own, so like, feel that i feel all of that for him while also having deeply personal reasons to connect with him. (not relate tho, not... really, but connect and feel sympathy)

so yeah i know I'm also one to joke about my low standarts when it comes to how i love Chikage because he has glaring flaws but all i see is a wounded man and i feel so much for him and imo there's a lot, lot of reasons to feel sympathy for him.

so yeah i love Chikage bye.

Oh my, posting at 1:30 am isn’t healthy dude! Well I’m determined to finally post this after not writing anything for almost a week. Have fun reading this. ( also some indulgent side ships )

Warnings: alcohol usage, 1:30 am editing, mildly tipsy John Laurens

Aaron Burr messed around with his bowtie, occasionally glancing at the mirror for any mistakes he made in his outfit. It was a very simple one, consisting of black dress pants and a dark grey button-down shirt. Also, he added the bow because it might make him look more attractive to his boyfriend.

Since he didn’t have any hair, he wouldn’t have to go through the struggle a lot guys would combing and doing all sorts of things to his non-existent hair. Checking to make sure he was clean shaven, he smoothen out any ruffles on his shirt.

Ducking back out, Aaron plucked a pack of raspberry caramels from his desk, which was wrapped in a green paper. John Laurens had a surprising taste to it, so Burr had gone to a reputable candy shop 20 minutes away from his apartment. The couple had a tradition of giving each other little gifts each time they had a date. 

Aaron agreed reluctantly, not seeing much purpose with gifting the other with mundane things, but as how John had been very ecstatic about the idea, he’d agreed anyway. It was nice in the end to be receiving good coffee and decent plates and silverware to eat out of. The raspberry caramel was a little costly anyway.

He grabbed his wallet, phone, and keys and then jumped onto his bike, pedaling down the sidewalk. He wasn’t gonna bother to hail a taxi since it annoyed him to have to awkwardly interact. Also the subway cost precious money as well as being too far away. He dodged multiple objects and people, doing so with ease.

As usual, he was one of the last people to arrive, save for Alex and Thomas. Who knows what they were doing. Most likely making out in the bathroom, or something even more graphic. He shuddered at the thought. Everyone else waved a hello to him, John with his ever-loving smile, patting the seat next to him.

“ Hi Aaron,” Laurens murmured as he pulled him into a hug.

“"Nice to see you too John,” reciprocating the hug. Their friends and him had gotten together to eat a casual place, then maybe hit up a club or two afterwards, like they would normally on group dates.

“ You got me the caramel! I love you so much, I’ll share some with you.”

Aaron rolled his eyes, having the same emotion run through him as John handed him the beloved coffee but saying nothing, merely turning up the corners of his mouth and hugging John.

“ Bonjour Aaron, looking quite snazzy, eh?” Gilbert some-really-long-ass-complicated-name Lafayette greeted, an arm dangling around Mulligan’s shoulder. They’d been the longest running couple out of the entire group, also the scariest. The reason for the latter was because they were basically giants as well as fairly protective of everyone here, Maria most recently because of her ex-boyfriend situation.

Eliza and Maria were seated next John,  Laf and Herc opposite of Aaron, and the rest of their friends either weren’t coming or were late. Heads turned as two people stumbled inside, looking like a total mess. The shorter of the two had a messy ponytail, serious eye bags, and a pair of wrinkled pants.

On the other hand, Thomas had smudged eyeliner(?) and a very ruffled magenta jacket with his name signed on the back in gold writing. It was evident of what the couple was doing before arriving at the restaurant. 

“ Sorry we’re late, Thomas was ahem, getting in my way.” Jefferson was smirking, a hand placed around Alex’s waist. Everyone rolled their eyes, knowing perfectly well what was going on.

They all greeted each other in a ‘normal’ fashion, eventually settling down after Alex, Thomas, and Laf exchanged a convo in French. Everyone ordered their food, John swearing he’ll let him try his did if Aaron lets eat some of Burr’s food. Aaron Burr would never say no to his sweet boyfriend.

People mused over their college days, especially the ones where the SMFDR and the Hamilsquad had been sworn enemies. It was honestly cringey and stupid, looking back at the fun memories they had, but they were barely adults. What could one have expected of them?

Time flew by, and as minutes turned into hours, they were running out of the diner, Aaron smiling as his boyfriend grinned and held his hand as the gang rushed across the street to the club.

Fortunately, they passed through without any complications and as usual, Burr took a seat and got everyone their drinks since most of the time they were all on the dancefloor already.

“ Okay John, don’t get too drunk and tell me if you managed to ignore my first ask, because I’m the only one sober enough to help you with your hair in the bathroom, alright sweetheart?” Aaron Burr leaned over from his stool to kiss him on the cheek, and the other reciprocated.

It was one of the few times John Laurens was able to let loose because of his job as a marine biologists. The man tended to enjoy staying up and going on long voyages to study the vast expanse of sea life. Aaron let him do so, mostly because it was his passion, and it was great seeing his face light up every time an experiment or project went well.

Aaron silently observed the mass of bodies moving to the tune, everyone dancing with everyone except for Eliza and Maria, who were leaning on the counters and daring each other to drink the weirdest thing on the menu.

“ Well if isn’t Aaron Burr, sir.” It annoyed Aaron a little, but he was quite used to it by now. Alexander Hamilton was reeking of sweat and clinging to Thomas.

“ What do you want Alex.”

“ You’re boyfriend looks kinda lonely without his own dance partner. Why not join him Burr?” his words falling together in a run-on sentence. Gilbert and Herc waved at the two, signaling them to get into the shot contest. Aaron pondered whether or not to stay on the side. He was normally the one to get everyone rides home, to observe the chaos in his own calm world. It was fascinating to him really. It sure looked like quite entertaining, but not an activity he would get involved in or was skilled at.

Strolling over to John, counting his freckles from a distance as he got closer and opened his mouth to speak. However, before he could say anything, John pulled his arm over to the middle of the crowd. 

“ John what the heck are you doing?”

“ Making you do something, that’s what.”

“ Can’t we just talk and drink, because that seems way better than standing here awkwardly.” John Laurens was a little tipsy to begin with.

“ Aww, okay. But we have to go take shots with them. Everyone else is.”  Knowing exactly who ‘them’ is, Burr sighed, wanting to perhaps let loose just a little tonight. One of the darn buttons had come undone on his shirt, as usual, floundering with it as he put it back into its rightful place.

Honestly, doing anything other than making sure everyone was safe while the squad had their nights out made him feel exhausted. It wasn’t that he hated it, just that it made him a little tired and wish that he’d stayed in bed that night.

“ Drink up Burr!” Mulligan shoved a shot of silver Patron at him, looking fairly drunk already. What harm could a little drink do? He gulped it all down, then immediately regretted it. He’d almost forgotten he burn of alcohol as it slithered down his throat. Aaron spluttered a cough, everyone else chuckling at him.

Lafayette gazed at them, looking calm as usual. He could hold liquor like no other man could. It was rumored that as a child, he drank a glass of wine before every meal since he lived in France. 

Alex leaned over to whisper something into John’s ear, John himself making a weird face and saying something incoherent to him. They bantered back and forth for a moment before he took a deep breath and sauntered over to Aaron. Aaron raised an eyebrow, studying his boyfriend’s drunken movements.

“ Can you come with me to the bathroom?” he whined, tugging at Burr’s sleeve with sparkling eyes. Of course his face would suddenly turn cute if he was asking or doing something Aaron wouldn’t approve of. But there was a reason why his face was appearing absolutely captivating. 

“ Alright sweetie, but why would we need to use the bathroom?” If John was able to form complete sentences and words, he was far from the stage of holding back his hair as he retched into the toilet. Laurens didn’t say anything, humming a jazz tune as they reached the men’s bathroom.

“ Erm, uh, eh Alex said I’m supposed to make out with you in a toilet stall. Well dared I guess.” Aaron glared at him, knowing his boundaries and his avoidance with PDA.

“ You know the rules. No full on PDA, and that includes making out. Ahem, John.” The curly-haired man gave him puppy eyes, and sighed in defeat.

“ Can’t we at least kiss or something? I hate chickening out of dares, especially to Alex.”

“ Hmm, well we technically aren’t in the public eye, so yes kissing but no tongue. Period.” John lit up again, as if that were even more possible. The alcohol made his face flush with red already. He leaned up to the taller one, his eyes halfway closed.

Aaron Burr gripped his waist, smiling as their lips touched. They stood, holding each other in the silence of the room. It was calm and loving, unlike a few nights where they could get a quite rough and passionate. He could tell John was holding back a bit of impulse, so to satisfy him, Burr stuck out his bottom lip a little and smirked even more as John nibbled it eagerly.

Ending the kiss to take a breather, Aaron released his grip on John and went over to the dingy mirror to check his attire. Looked the same as always, but the back of his shirt was wrinkled in one place where John had held it.

“ Alright, let’s get out of here and join the rest of our friends, who probably think we’re having steamy sex as of right now.” 

“ Hmm, would you like to Burr?”

“ Don’t even try John. Don’t even try.”

After the initial shock, you both start laughing and you end up staying by each other’s side the whole time

Zen:

Your friend introduced you to some musical that starred Zen in it and you were immediately head over heels for him

When you told the RFA about this new up and coming actor, Jaehee started fangirling

She starts going on about Zen and recommends some of his musicals and sends photos of him to you

Meanwhile, Zen is watching this convo unfold all while smiling really smug to himself

He decides to have a little fun by pretending to not be the actor you currently have a gigantic crush on and may or may not actually be falling in love with

Also he can’t pass up an opportunity to talk about himself amirite

at this point, everyone but jaehee and zen have left the chat

He’ll send selfies of you claiming they’re secret photos he got off the internet and your heART GOES HAYWIRE

Zen is having fun with this

He ends up surprising you by telling you he scored front row tickets to his new show

You. Are. Dead.

You ask him how on earth he got tickets but he just says he has connections somehow or somethin idk

He thinks it’s really cute that you’re such a big fan of him

But he especially loves how it’s not just for his looks! You also admire his talent and how kind and devoted he is to his fans!

That’s how he falls for you but he doesn’t know if you’ll love him back or just remain a fan

Come the party day and he’s a little nervous to meet you

When you see him, you start freaking out because how did Zen end up at this party?!!?!?!!?1?1

He starts laughing as he explains that he was a member of the RFA

you nearly faint bc omg the amount of embarrassing things that you said

After letting the news sink in, he proclaims his love for you

You’re super happy because of course you love him too because you were able to get to know the real Zen in the chat and not just the actor

When you tell him that, he is sososososo happy!!!!

Jaehee:

You met this really cute girl at a coffee shop one day 

She was in a rush but she made quick small talk with you but you never got her name

When you told the RFA about her, you were super blushy and everything awww

But Jaehee is a super smart girl so she was able to kinda put two and two together and figure out that she was the one you met

Now she’s getting all blushy bc “wat MC likes me??? she thinks i’m cute?!!?!?”

Since that day, she makes an effort to go to the same cafe at the same time in hopes of meeting you again

And you’re doing the same thing so you end up meeting each other every day

You two claim it’s just a “coincidence”

calling u on ur bullshit

The both of you end up developing HUGE crushes on each other it’s adorable

Everyone in the RFA is rooting for you two lol

Especially Zen and he’s also trying to be that lowkey wingman for baehee in the chat without revealing who she really is

You thought it would be a good idea to invite Jaehee to the party

She accepts while trying to hide her laugh bc little did you know

The day arrives and you’re nervous to finally meet the RFA but even more nervous bc oh god Jaehee is gonna be there too you gotta look nice

You spot Jaehee right away and you give her a big hug before leading her around and trying to find the RFA

You see a group of men walk up to you and they introduce themselves as the RFA

You introduce Jaehee as the girl you’ve been talking about

“MC, there’s no need to introduce me. I already know them.”

lol wut

She giggles and explains that she is the other member and you nearly faint you’re so embarrassed

She takes your hand in hers and says, “Don’t worry, MC. I happen to like you a lot too.”

Jumin:

You had recently gotten a job at the C&R Company and had coincidentally been placed to work in the same department as Jumin’s

Despite the rumors and the crazy amount of workload, you had slowly started to develop some feelings for him

You never really saw him that much since he was so busy

But when you did, your heart would beat like crazy even though you knew that being with him would probably never happen in a billion years

So you vented to the chatroom one day after having a run-in with Jumin

You told them how you had started to fall for him even though you knew her could never have feelings for you

Jaehee was stunned

Yoosung and Seven fucking lost it

Zen nearly s c r e a m e d

When Jumin read your messages, he was shocked to say the least

How funny that the MC he’s falling for is also in love with him without realizing it

He immediately looked up your employee info so he could have a little fun with this 

The next day at work, you were surprised to run into Jumin but even more so that he decided to actually have a conversation with you that didn’t involve work

He was a lot nicer and relaxed and smiled more than before

You told the members about the interaction while Jumin fucking smirked the entire time

This continued for a while, him randomly running into you at work and chatting while you silently died inside

Party day arrives and you’re looking around for the members when BAM

juMiN iS HeRE?!?!1/!?!!?

You slowly make your way towards him and the small group he was talking to

He sees you and smiles

“Ah MC, it’s so good to see you again. Let me introduce you to the other RFA members.”

“O-Other members?”

The gears start working in your head before you realize that Jumin was a member

Which meant he read all your messages

Which also meant that today was your death day

He laughs at your expression when you figure it out but reassures you that the feelings are mutual

You both smile at each other as he kisses you on the cheek

meanwhile zen is now officially screaming

Seven:

The agency you worked for partnered you up with Seven for a mission

Agents 606 and 707: The best hacker and best field operative the agency has

also fucking badass holy shit i might write a fic

Ever since your successful mission, you two have been partners on every single one following that

While kicking ass, you had slowly started to develop feelings for him

When you joined the RFA, everyone introduced themselves except for one who was a hacker

To you, it made sense that he had to hide his identity

Also for some strange reason, this hacker reminded you of Seven hmmmmmmmmmmm i wonder why

You introduced yourself to the group, though, and Seven nearly choked on the chips he was eating

As the days passed by, you grew more comfortable with the group and eventually told them about the troubles in your love life

You told them how you had fallen for your partner but you didn’t think he loved you back because he tends to push you away sometimes

Seven: Dead.

Little did you know that he was in love with you too

The reason why he pushes you away was because he didn’t think that you loved him

Since then, Seven has started to open up a bit more around you and you were really happy with that

In classic Seven-fashion, he thinks it would be hilarious if he kept it a secret that he was an RFA member

The day of the party arrives and you’re about to leave when you run into Seven

“Where you going?” He asks you

“Heading off to the party with the RFA. I told you about them, remember? See you later!”

yes you will lololol

When you meet everyone at the party, you’re all happy to finally meet each other 

But you notice that your new hacker friend was missing

In the corner of your eye, you see a flash of red and immediately recognize it as Seven

You confront him and ask him how and why he’s at the party

“For the agency’s best spy, you’re really bad at recognizing people.”

Putting two and two together, you realize that he was the last member of the RFA

*cue you slapping him repeatedly on the shoulder as he laughs his fucking ass off*

QUESTION 5. Why is the Storyteller helping Syrma? What exactly are the Storyteller’s ultimate goals regarding Arunor? Do you believe Puck will remain loyal to the Storyteller, or will he now work for Deneb?

QUESTION 6. What do you believe Henna did in the past that caused her to be exiled from the court of the sidhe? What does this have to do with Henna turning into a monster? Also, what deal did Henna make with Puck?

1) my favorite scene is probably when henna goes to bathe and puck shows up and we start learning that something is wrong with henna. i enjoy the illustration work a lot with how much detailed work is put into henna's appearance. but i also just like the elements added to the story because it really adds this forboding sense that time is running out for everyone really, not just syrma. and i think the addition really helps to add more stakes to the matter, since the more lives in the balance the better? XD 2) this is a tough choice. probably henna. of the designs i like hers the most because its just so strange, mystical, and beautiful at the same time. but also i like how teasing she can get in one scene but then serious and badass in another. all around shes just a really intriguing character to me that i enjoy learning about. 3) I wouldnt label Nirur as "evil" so much as id probably assume hes self-absorbed and concerned only with his well-being. as for his role, i assume some magic shenanigans where somehow syrma's death will help release him. although i feel like not everything is as it seems. like nirur expects his sister to fail and is just trying to get syrma to come to him to trick her into using her inability to be affected by magic to bust him out of god jail. but just spit balling on that one i have no real evidence other then i assume nirur is cunning. 4) i think maybe the liosalfar saved menkar's life. and that menkar may have really just been depressed and had nowhere else to go at the time. i dont think itll reall affect the quest so much as make syrma go "omg hugs for menkar"

5) given the convo the storyteller had with hatal, im gonna assume hes helping syrma out of boredom. cause it seems implied that their world is just kind of stuck and static, never changing and never growing. and i think the storyteller just wants that to change. which i mean to be fair, you cant be a good storyteller when there are no stories to tell. and you cant have good stories without change, growth, and progress. as for puck, yeah i think hes gonna remain loyal to the storyteller. just cause deneb probably wouldnt help him even if he helped her. 6) im gonna just take a stab in the dark here and say maybe forbidden magic comboed with a lack of deference to the crown. although i assume that henna was exiled partly because nobody wants a monster in their lands, so better to get them out before theyre too dangerous to lose. as for the deal, help syrma and get cured? i mean that seems the most likely. and i assume it was a generally vague deal that henna partly regrets cause theres a lot of help needed.

1) This may be a weird choice, but I really liked the scene when Syrma kissed Menkar and ran off. Or rather, that's the scene that made me like her. It's not that I ship them (I'm aro and rarely get excited for shippy stuff). Rather, it made her feel more 3-dimensional to me. There's a lot of scenes portraying her as this perky, reckless warrior-huntress... But there's gotta be more to her than just the fighting and the hunting, right? And that kiss scene did it for me. She was still the same perky, reckless girl, so it wasn't like showing an unexpected hidden side of her. But it still showed that there are mundane moments in her life, too.

6) There is a short story in the Threads anthology that goes over this. I actually read that short story before reading the main comic... It doesn't explain everything, but it explains a lot.

QUESTION 7. What do you believe the group will do regarding the last potion ingredient since Henna’s blood is useless? How might Farian and the other sidhe help or hurt the situation?

I need to do an archive binge of this comic again but I wanna just say that I love this story. Love Syrma and want to see how she achieves her goals. I love the art style. It's clean and professional but it's on a stylistic side that attracts me (I tend to not go for stories, especially fantasies, where the cast looks too realistic). Keep up the amazing work, Monica! :D

1. What has been your favorite scene in the comic so far? What specifically did you like about it? http://moonslayercomic.com/comic/ch5-20/ I loved this sequence -- Syrma getting the Angisu was pretty dang neat to see, especially when she threw the flames at the monsters! 2. Probably Deneb. She's got enough mystery around her, but so far I just like how... IDK, goal-oriented she is? She's interesting so far, and I want to know what she has in mind for Syrma. 3. NO IDEA! I think Deneb probably expects that Syrma will take her place, and that's why she chose her and took her magic -- this was all necessary to get her ready. 4. Menkar was probably going to be king before the other guy was put in place, and things went badly. 5. I can't really say why the storyteller might be helping Syrma, but I do wonder how much of this has to do with fate? Alternatively, Deneb could be totally losing it and degenerating somehow, and he's trying to find a peaceful end for her. ...Granted, nothing involving Syrma ever seems to be peaceful for long. 6. ...Y'know, I'd like to know what Henna did? I imagine her exile is directly related to becoming a monster, and is just a consequence of not being with her people... I do think, based on the cast page, that Henna probably helped Iris become immortal, which pissed off several sidhe.

1. Definitely the sequence where Syrma first uses the Angisu. The flames turning into claws around her hands... beautiful. 2. Syrma. I just love the way you see her grow up throughout the comic. 3. I think Deneb wants to use Syrma to free her brother somehow? I'm not sure how sacrificing Syrma would help with that, however. 4. I agree with Rebel on this one. Menkar was exiled for his betrayal, and the liosalfar took him in. 5. I think it's possible the Storyteller just disagrees with Deneb's actions, and wants to stop her somehow? As for Puck, I think he may pretend to be loyal to Deneb, but I still think he's going to help Syrma overall. 6. Agreed with the other sentiments, I'd also like to posit that maybe Henna doesn't know if she's actually helping Syrma, or if she's a traitor. After all, she threatened to reveal her deal with Puck to Syrma and Menkar, which isn't something you do if you're only being helpful.

QUESTION 8. What insight do you believe the beginning of the comic gives us to the current story? What do you predict given that Syrma was warned about being seduced and is also emphasized to be all alone?

i want to add to some of the discussion that i kind of think deneb isnt losing it. i think shes already lost it. XD in the sense that shes just being completely used by her brother and just flat out cant see it. is so dedicated to him nothing about morality or anything else registers to her anymore. its all about getting nirur out of prison, even her children be damned. 7) maybe theyre gonna be extremists and kidnap farian. cause that can only go well right? although i forsee them getting majorly delayed, caught, and sent to sidhe court. puck can be their lawyer. 8) the fact shes all alone....gonna be honest. i just assume everyone be dead. henna is a monster, puck got offed by deneb, menkar died fighting the dragon. cause i dont have optimism from that beginning. i feel like the warning about being seduced is gonna cause syrma to maybe sympathize with deneb some. see that she is a victim of nirur's machinations. and then syrma will kill them both cause i mean the title is moonslayer O_O

Maybe Nirur lost it and that's why he's locked up... and Deneb's susceptible to the same issue as him. And Syrma's... well, Syrma's going to take over for both of them. Regarding question 8 -- I'm honestly worried xD Like, what's Nirur gonna do? Try and tempt her with power and such? Surely he knows she's not really attracted to that... Unless he can promise her all sorts of things like, her family back, a happy life... using illusions. But maybe he'll also just try to win her heart. XD

QUESTION 9. Do you believe that Syrma and Menkar’s relationship is changing, or is it all just playful teasing? How might the growing tension between them change the direction of Syrma’s quest?

No idea what Syrma's intentions are, but I don't think Menkar's going to take the teasing seriously. like 1) from his point of view, syrma was a baby yesterday, and 2) pretty sure he watched his wife and kid(s) die.

It reminds me of something from a game, when a human character and a dragon character interact. They'd met and fought together as allies in a war 3 years prior. They reunite, the dragon gives the human what he needed, and goes on her way. Human: Wait! Aren't we going to talk and catch up? It's been 3 years! Dragon: What? But we saw each other just 3 years ago!

My guess is Syrma has a crush that she's okay with being unrequited, because she understands there are the differences between them. By the same token, I think she might feel jealous if Menkar were to pursue a relationship with another woman, especially a mortal/non-dragon woman (I don't think this likely, just speaking hypothetically). Not like vehemently jealous, just a "hey I thought... ugh n/m " kinda thing.

9) i do think the relationship is changing. they seem way too blushy and into the flirting for it not to be. but more i think the dynamic thats changing is them both kind of coming to terms with the fact that they may have some feelings for each other, even if they dont know what to do with them. in terms of changing the direction of syrma's question, i assume itll motivate her more. up until menkar probably gets killed cause i ahve no hope for him to live through this quest. 10) i am looking forward to syrma's growth most of all i think. cause shes still got a ways to go before she's ready for any moon slaying. so im interested to see in how the future trials challenge her and prepare her for the task at hand.

Global Source meets Mayday

Following on from last week’s post, where Global Source caught up with the girls of B.L.O.O.M. ahead of their debut night at Soup Kitchen, this week we continue our series on Manchester nightlife with an interview with Tom from Mayday, a collaborative project between two well-established names on the Manchester scene: CULT and Ossia. This Saturday at Hidden they’re hosting what looks set to be a pretty outstanding showcase of cutting-edge electronic music, with a serious roster of talent from the celebrated R&S Records, and none other than Talaboman (John Talabot and Axel Boman) headlining. Read on to find out about what it takes to throw a rave in a skatepark, the challenges of making high-end bookings as an independent promoter, and what to expect from Mayday in the coming months.

Global Source: First things first, for those unaware of what you guys are up to, can you describe Mayday in your own words? What’s it all about, and what’s the link with Ossia and CULT?

Tom from Mayday: Mayday is a collaboration between Ossia and CULT. It’s simply the joined forces of the brands. It’s opened up new possibilities for us in terms of bookings, both financially as well as by combining our roster of residents. We’re taking Mayday in a different direction from the other two brands, which tend to focus on more intimate gigs in medium-sized venues, usually showcasing 1 or 2 artists. Mayday on the other hand is all about collaboration with organisations, labels and collectives, really trying to provide some of Manchester’s most top end nightlife. Our show with Dimensions last year was a lot of fun and an amazing opportunity to bring high-calibre artists the likes  of Daniel Avery to Manchester.  

GS: Cool – nice to see a full-on long-term collaboration between the two crews. Having more of you involved must make it a little easier on the wallet to make those higher-end bookings… Does it also make it harder to agree on a lineup? What’s the decision-making process like?

TfM: The costing is definitely eased by the number in the group, sure, but it doesn’t detract from the huge risk we put on ourselves for every show! The lineup process is always a tricky one but thankfully we’re all extremely passionate about the music and appreciate artists from across the spectrum of the dance scene. There’s rarely a suggestion that gets completely shut down because ultimately we’d love to have everyone play for us. Most of the time the main restriction is availability and the booking costs of the artists, we may agree on a 5 stage contingency of acts we want and get in touch with them all, only to find out that they’re all booked, taking the month off, or tied up in something else. Finding a solution is one of the fun bits though, trying to work out who would fit with who, whether they played too recently or too near, all these things come into play.

GS: So back in June you guys hosted an event at Manchester’s Projekts skatepark, where you had Mall Grab and Shanti Celeste play. How did that event come about? I saw some pretty funny video of people who’d had a few too many trying to negotiate a quarter pipe – did you have to do a risk assessment?

TfM: We scouted out the skatepark because we saw that UKF had done an event there a couple of years back. It looked like a wicked event so we got in touch and they were fortunately interested in having us in. They have to get a TEN [Temporary Event Notice] to have an event there but even with that we got the council coming over an hour before the licence expired telling us to pull the plug. Luckily we managed to pull a filibuster and sweet talked them for the hour so that we didn’t have to shut down before Mall Grab finished! The venue was covered with a risk assessment already but we had to take out insurance in case anyone did bail on the quarter pipe while trying to backside blunt and split their chin open. Luckily everyone partied *fairly* sensibly and we didn’t have any issues. There’s always an element of mutual trust when holding events like that, and with a crowd who are there for the music not because they’re at “UNAYYY” and love chanting about the most recent footballer caught up in a controversy we were alright.

GS: I’m sure you heard about the recent controversy caused by Jeremy Underground’s agent threatening to bite someone if they didn’t book a 5 star hotel with a gym and sauna for his client. If you don’t mind, I’d like to get your take on it – should top DJs feel entitled to a post-set spa session? Is there anyone you guys rate highly enough that you’d pay for their sauna to get them on the bill?

TfM: To be honest most tier 1 artists require 5* hotels with room service, wifi, leisure facilities, all expenses covered, upmarket dinner, excessive riders etc. It doesn’t come as any surprise to me that JU asked for those extra facilities because as he said, he had a very busy week of shows. That said we’re always careful to read the contract beforehand to know exactly what we’re getting ourselves into. Everything is negotiable, so as long as you don’t blindly sign bits of paper you should know what to expect. Changing agreements last minute on the other hand isn’t okay. It’s a bit of a confusing situation and it seems that the agent and the promoters were both slightly in the wrong - Jeremy offered to pay for it all himself so in my eyes he wasn’t being out of order. Personally I’d let Dixon have my house keys, all of my savings, any current girlfriends, my watch and my best pair of shoes because I think he is an absolute god. Whether I speak for the rest of the Mayday team is another question but he holds a special place in my heart!

GS: While we’re on the subject of big bookings, at this time of year as we all know it’s Warehouse Project season. Obviously they’ve elevated the standing of Manchester’s club scene on the world stage as a heavyweight contender, but some feel they’re unfairly monopolizing the market. As a smaller outfit, what do you feel are the pros and cons of the WHP brand?  

TfM: I remember a great piece of convo I had with Toby who was the original Ossia don, saying that he didn't mind WHP before this year because as much as they got most of the huge names they tended to leave a decent gap for more niche artists. This year they've just snapped up so many acts we wanted to book who we thought were a little more under the radar. So, kudos to them for improving the programming but also, rahhhhhhh. It's the exclusivity contracts that grind our gears – it takes away so many options for booking talent we truly love and who would provide a totally different show in a smaller venue that wouldn’t detract from Warehouse Project’s ticket sales. But there you go, they operate like a business whereas a lot of promoters do it for the love of the scene.  I can't help but thank them for making the Manchester nightlife so revered, no doubt they're a credit to the city and the scene as well as a pain in the arse. I remember my friends travelling from down south to attend WHP a few years back and it’s always drawn people to Manchester. I’d love to see them find a better venue because I’ve definitely fallen out of love with Store Street, but maybe I take that back because it might make our lives even harder!

GS: Yeah it’s definitely a tough one, hard to argue with the lineups they put together but seeing the corporatisation of the “underground” music scene does leave a sour taste in the mouth. Anyway, enough party politics for now. Let’s get to the matter at hand – this Saturday!  You guys are bringing the legendary R&S Records to Hidden. It’s a hell of a lineup, with Talaboman headlining, and you’ve even arranged an in-store pre-party with Space Dimension Controller at Eastern Bloc Records. How are you guys feeling about it? Looks set to be a night to remember…  

TfM: Safe to say we’ve all been absolutely buzzing for this show ever since we got the go ahead from R&S. They’re a household name in the dance music scene and have proved time and time again that venturing into the unknown and embracing diversity in your taste creates a successful following. Their roster of artists is so impressive and we’re blessed to have Paula Temple, SDC and Renaat. Paula especially has been on our watchlist for a while, and ever since Ossia had SDC do a DJ set a couple of year back we’ve been gagging to see him perform live! Talaboman as the special guest was a no brainer for us - since the two heavyweights joined forces we’ve all been drooling over the prospect of seeing them play together. The fact we’ve got them on a line up is a dream come true. Excitement in the Mayday camp is second to none and we just hope that everyone who plans on joining us brings immense energy and we have a proper party!

GS: I have no doubt that’s what it’ll be. Tom, thanks for your time, and all the best for Saturday night and the year to come – can’t wait to hear what’s next on the Mayday Agenda. Any clues as to what that might be?

TfM: I can't give too much away yet but we've got something special lined up for next may… think Bongos Bingo and Schloss!
