King and the Kids
A short story about the Sanders Sides Feedback is encouraged and welcome. Hope you Enjoy
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
A baby cried in the other room. Kingsley looked into the basket. Not seeing anything else.
“Now where’d you come from, small one?” He picked up the child. A piece of paper fell out from the blanket. “What’s this?” He picked it up. “Morality.”
The baby laughed and grabbed Kingsley’s hand.
“We are going to have so much fun.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Patton, you rascal.” Kingsley huffed playfully, while chasing the toddler.
“Peek-a-boo.” Patton laughed while running from the other. “Boo” He ran into the other room.
“You need to hold still. You can’t run around the house, you might fall and get hurt.”
Patton just laughed and ran off again.
Twenty minutes later Patton finally had a sippy cup of juice laying down next to the tired adult.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Look what I did King!” Patton shouted running into the kitchen. He handed the older one a piece of paper.
“That’s so pretty.” Kingsley took the paper and put it on the fridge next to several others.
“This one is a dog park with all kinds of dogs and puppies.” Patton beamed proud of himself.
“That’s amazing. Would you like to help finish dinner?” He asked the six year old.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kingsley woke up to the eight year old next to his bed. “Nightmare Patton?” He asked the child.
“No,” Patton had a bundle of blankets in his arms. “It’s a baby.”
“A what?” He sat up and carefully grabbed the bundle from his son's arms.
“This was with it.” Patton pulled a piece of paper out of his pocket. “Where did he come from?”
“I’m not entirely sure. You remember the story when I found you?” Kingsley asked. Patton nodded. “It’s the same thing.” He unfolded the paper. “Logic.”
Looking at the sleeping child he smiled. “Go back to sleep, Patton. I’ll help the baby. You can help tomorrow.”
“Okay King.” Patton walked out of the adult’s room.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Logan!” Patton whined. “Give me back my glasses.”
“No!”
“Done with schoolwork?” Kingsley asked Patton, walking in to see what the commotion was.
“No. Logan keeps grabbing my glasses and books.” The ten year old grabbed his glasses back, making the other cry.
“Why don’t we give him his own then?” Kingsley went back into his room, only to come out a moment later with a children’s book and a smaller pair of glasses identical to Patton’s.
“We have the same glasses!” Patton exclaimed.
“bwooks!” The two year old reached his hands out.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
“Logan. What are you working on?”
“Puzzles.” The six year old stated.
“Can I join you? That sounds fun!” King sat next to the child.
“Yeah, I’m almost done with it anyway.”
The two sat for the next thirty minutes focused on the task until a shout was heard from the kitchen.
“Cookies are done!” Patton dusted the flour off his shirt. He went to find the others.
“Oh, a puzzle. Can I join?” Patton walked into Logan’s room. “This looks fun.”
“No, Patton wait-” A box with puzzle pieces tipped over. Logan stared at the mess, tears coming to his eyes.
“I’m sorry Logan.” All three of them started picking up the pieces.
“Accidents happen.” Kingsley told them.
“I do want to taste some of your cookies Patton.”
The 14 year old jumped up, careful not to spill anything again. “I made some just for you King. And some just for Logan.”
“Logan, come join us?” The adult asked.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
Logan was eight and Patton sixteen when another child got added to their small family.
Crying could be heard throughout the house.
“Another baby!” Patton ran around trying to figure out where it was coming from. Logan found him first.
“Self-preservation.” Logan carefully held the bundle in his arms. “That’s what the paper said.”
Kingsley sat in the rocking chair after taking him from Logan. Patton was by his side cooing at the small one. They both tried to stop the crying.
“I’m not as young as I used to be.” He turned to Patton. “You children are growing up fast and now we have another baby to take care of.”
“I’ll help you.” Patton whispered. They both watched as the baby’s eyes began to close and his crying slowed.
“I know, you and Logan both will. You both are very different, but everyone has their own talents.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
“Janus! You come back here!” Patton chased the toddler. Logan and Kingsley watched from the couch.
“No!” The child shouted. The adult laughed.
“What’s funny?” Logan asked him.
“I did this same thing with Patton.” He said fondly. “And now he’s the eighteen year old chasing the two year old around. And you're ten?”
“Yup!” Logan beamed.
King smiled. “When did you get so old?”
Almost an hour later with both Patton, Logan and King chasing the toddler they finally got him to sit down. They made dinner while he drank juice from his sippy cup.
“Will you boys make sure Janus gets in bed tonight? Especially you Patton. I'm going to bed early.”
“Of course.” They responded simultaneously.
“Thank you.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
“Look what I caught!” Janus ran to Patton. The 22 year old shrieked.
“Snake?! Janus, those don’t belong in the house.” Patton told him.
Janus laughed. “Can I keep it?” He asked.
“You have to ask King.” Patton went back to what he was doing as the six year old ran off.
Logan was with Kingsley.
“Hey King?” Janus whispered as he slowly opened the bedroom door.
“He’s asleep,” The 14 year old whispered back. “What did you need?”
“Hey Janus.” King slowly opened his eyes. “How’s my little snake doing huh?”
“I finally caught one today.” Janus held up his hands for the adult to see.
“I’m proud of you. Set up a vivarium. I’m sure Logan would love to help you.” He smiled at his two youngest.
“Okay King. We’ll let you sleep more.” Logan took the younger’s hand and they left the room.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~``
“Is he going to get better?” Janus asked Patton. They were sitting on the couch while Logan was in his room.
“King is a champion. Of course he is. He’s just getting older.” Patton responded. “We can go see him if you’d like.”
“I’d rather not.” The 8 year old whispered. “Is that bad?”
“Of course not. This is a scary time for all of us.”
“Is that why Logan’s always in his room?”
“He has his own ways of expressing his concerns.” Patton hugged the younger.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
Four years have passed. Patton, Logan and Janus kept growing more and more worried as King’s condition seemed to worsen. The once close family was falling apart as their parental figure was getting worse with each passing year. And their house was slowly changing without any of them realizing it.
“I’m trying, King. I really am. I’m just not sure what I’m doing wrong.” Patton told him, despite the other being no longer able to respond. “Janus is almost a teenager now and I feel like we’re all drifting apart. Logan stays in his room all the time. I don’t know what to do without you.”
King was in an unconscious state. The 28 year old laid his head on the bed.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
“You lied to me!” Janus stormed off when Patton told him the sad news. Logan walked out of his room hearing the commotion.
“I was trying to protect you.” Patton answered back.
“Protect me from what!” Janus stormed off.
“I thought it was the right thing to do.” Patton mumbled.
“Can you keep the noise down? I’m trying to study.” Logan said, turning and quickly going back into his room.
“We all have our own ways of coping.” Patton mumbled to himself walking into the kitchen. He pulled the ingredients knowing the recipe by heart.
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
Several weeks had passed. Patton and Logan were getting along, understanding that none of them could change what had happened. They were slowly spending more time together. Janus was drifting farther apart and everytime Patton tried to help he was met with resentment. Janus was angry and bitter towards Patton. ‘It’s his way of coping’ Patton would remind himself. 'He'll get over it'
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
A cry woke Patton. ‘Another baby? It’s been a long time.’ He got up and walked into the room. Logan had a baby in his arms.
“Creativities.” He simply stated. “That’s what the paper said.”
“Oh,” Patton walked towards Logan and the baby. “What does that mean?”
“There were two babies. Janus took the other one. He almost took both.”
“Two babies? Why does Janus have one? What does he want?”
Janus had built his own place far away from Patton and Logan. The oldest realized Janus was better off being by himself and just let him be. They hardly spoke to the other.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
“Roman! Don’t go over there!” Patton stopped the 4 year old from entering into the forest
“Why?” Roman asked.
“It’s dark, you don’t know what could be over there.” Patton told him. Roman turned towards the grassy field giving one last look behind him before skipping away.
“Logan,” Patton turned toward the other. “What am I going to do?”
“About?” Logan briefly looked up from his book.
“Roman’s getting more and more curious. What if he learns about the others?” Patton whispered the last part. “I just don’t want what happened to Janus happening over again. I miss him.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
“Remus!” Janus yelled across the house. “What do you have!”
“A knife!” The eight year old laughed while running away.
“No!” Janus ran after him. “What did I say about knives?”
Remus pouted, having finally been caught. “Only throwing, no running.”
“Only throwing in the designated throwing room. You’ll totally slice someone’s head off, and I’d rather it not be mine.”
“It’s boooring!” Remus whined. “Everything’s already chopped up and then some.”
“I know you need to expand your creative outlook. How about I create you a room specifically for beating things up, or go into the forest.”
“You’ll let me in the forest! There’s so many small animals.” Remus hopped up and down.
“You need to get rid of some of the energy anyway. Let’s go.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
Two years later Janus got more concerned as Patton and Logan got more and more control over the imagination, no doubt with the help of Remus’ twin. Janus and Remus stayed back in their corner, Janus still bitter with Patton from all those years ago and Remus having been told the stories.
Roman started exploring more of the forest, much to the dismay and eventual approval of Patton. “As long as you stay around the edge and don’t go in the middle.”
Remus loved exploring the darkest part of the forest with all the creepiness, Janus keeping a watchful eye of both his child and the others. Always avoiding.
“Patton!” Roman rushed to the other. Patton was making cookies and brushed the flour from his hands. “I heard a villain in the forest.” Logan paused his reading from the couch to listen in. “He was laughing like the bad guys do in the movies!”
Logan and Patton shared a quick glance. “Are you sure it wasn’t your imagination kiddo? I know it tends to run a bit wild when you’re playing.” Roman thought for a moment.
“Maybe it was just an animal or something.” Roman said eventually. “Or a monster!” His eyes widened.
“Well, I’ll be the cookie monster if you don’t come eat my cookies.” Patton put the cookies on the table along with a cup of milk.
Later that night Patton woke up to what he thought was crying. After a minute of not hearing anything he closed his eyes and went back to sleep.
Janus smiled and looked at the small baby in his arms. ‘Anxiety’ the note read. Janus walked back to his place of living and sat down. “Goes good with self preservation don’t you think Remus?”
“A baby?” Remus sleepily stood next to Janus.
“We’ll raise him like I raised you.”
Oh fuck I uh I just realised that Everything Stays now also gets to be about Simon. He’s changed so much but he’s also exactly the same. The world he lives in is different, alien, isolating. He was a normal man, then he spent some 1000 years in a dreamlike state, and now he’s normal again but everything is different. He carries that trauma in everything he does even though he’s “better now.” He was waiting in the garden so long for someone to turn him around but the underside is lighter. Only he seems to notice that he’s faded. Ever so slightly. Daily and nightly. In little ways
*merlins magic gets exposed in front of the knights*
merlin, magic user: oh fuck
arthur, finally taking this opportunity to pretend as if he just found out merlin has magic after agonizing for the past month on how to bring it up: you have magic?
lancelot, merlin defender, already knew of merlin’s magic: no! i have magic
gwaine, merlin defender, already knew of merlin’s magic, lover of chaos, ride or die: no, i have magic!
mordred, desperate for his hero’s approval bc no matter what he’s done emrys just stares at him with distrust and the poor boy is tired and so close to tears: no…i have magic.
percival, raised by druids and bonded strongly with mordred over that and does Not agree with the persecution of magic in camelot, had an inkling that merlin had magic but no proof: no. i have magic.
*leon and elyan exchange a look, elyan, amused and leon, exhausted, elyan shrugs*
elyan, knows how much gwen adores merlin and completely understands her stance bc merlin…is merlin, down to clown and put on a show, really playing up the dramatics: no! i have magic.
leon, exhausted, has known of merlin’s magic since he stepped foot in camelot, knows of his feelings for arthur and arthur’s feelings for him, knows arthur knows of merlin’s magic and wouldn’t harm him, thinks everyone is being absolutely ridiculous:
*the knights stare hard at leon and even merlin looks slightly offended at leon not jumping to his defense with the rest of the knights, arthur hasn’t said anything and is staring at leon expectantly*
leon, sighing: …no. i have magic.
Siblings Behavior
It's shenanigans time guys
So have this DpxDc idea.
So, the Justice League and the Light (OR villains in general) have two newish members, they've both been around for about a year and they're from the same plane of existence (a place called the Infinite Realms according to those who dabble in the occult)
And the two seem to have some serious beef with each other.
Wisp and Wrath are basicly feral cats hissing and hekles raised when they spot the other and their fights normally ends in draws. They're evenly matched and sometimes the two even fight to the point they are out of steam and just fist fight.
Needless to say everyone believes they totally hate each other and might one day kill (or end?) One of them.
So everything gets turned upside down when suddenly both factions of heros and villains are suddenly summoned to the Infinite Realms.
In a throne room.
In front of the Infinite King (or most commonly known as the Ghost King)
A King who looks very, very much like Wisp and Wrath (like yeah the two do sometimes look alike, like when they grin with sharp teeth and their hair color, but one has blue skin and red eyes for crying out loud!)
He's staring at them, glowing green eyes that seemed to just... know.
"Welcome to the Infinite Realms. I am King Phantom." His voice echoing in the throne room and seemed to rattle them deeply, like a sudden chill in the early morning.
"I have summoned you all here for a single reason." He continued to say "Tell me..."
Here he paused, closed his eyes before leaning back on the chair then he smiled big and cheerfully asked.
"How are my kids doing in your world? Dan and Ellie aren't causing too much chaos in their wake are they? They tend to go a tiny bit overboard sometimes but what siblings don't when they rough house you know. Tell me everything."
Danny laid across his throne, legs planted across the left arm of the ornate chair and back pressed uncomfortably against the right.
"Listen," Danny started, letting his head flop to the side as he glared at a hovering Observant. "This meeting has wasted enough of my time. You all have been arguing for hours and that's without Clockwork slowing things down."
"Your Majesty, this is a matter of great importance. Belial means to overthrow and rule my-our world!"
"I am distinctly aware aware of that," Ancients, Danny couldn't wait to go home and rid himself of the formal speech he'd had to adopt in order to be taken seriously. Well, as seriously as he cared to be taken when sprawled across his throne instead of sitting on it intimidatingly or something. He slowly placed his gaze on the suddenly still demon sitting across from him. "Yet you've proposed fifteen different plans that were all unviable for whatever reasons you've cooked up. Your conclusion is that I must step in. Does your world not have heroes to take care of it?"
The demon- another lord of hell from this Belial’s universe- fell silent.
“Ah. But if they do, they would also take care of you.”
“No- no, that’s not-”
Danny allowed his voice to drop to the artic freeze he knew his core was capable of. "I opened these these doors to allow all of you to present me with reasonable concerns regarding your own universes and realms. What is not on the table for discussion is your petty politics. Do you think I am unaware of your intentions in tattling to me? That I do not know you are trying to use me to further your own position?"
"Your Majesty, I-" The demon growled out, fear slowly coating its expression.
"It no longer amuses me. You think that I am young and easy to manipulate." Danny froze the demon to its chair. It tried to break free, but Danny isn't the High King of the Infinite Realms for nothing. "Bring to me a miserable problem like this ever again, one that could be easily solved if you used even a smidgen of your intelligence, and you will find exactly how I tore Pariah Dark from his throne."
Not that Danny knew how he did it either, he just did it.
"Yes, Your Majesty. My-my apologies."
The room is dead (Danny patted himself on the back for the pun) silent. Some of the Ancients looked bored, like Clockwork who knew Danny would never hurt them, but everyone else looked close to crying. He held eye contact with the demon until it looked away.
When Danny settled back into the throne and allowed his ice to dissipate, the room let out a collective sigh of relief.
"The next item on the agenda is another demon, by the name of Trigon." Clockwork announced, the large piece of paper comically huge next to his currently toddler-like body.
"Another?"
He flicked an amused look at the previous demon, who kept his trap firmly shut.
"He is attempting to take over multiple worlds in an attempt to conquer the universe. I had thought you would be interested in this one, Your Majesty, as he plans to begin with Earth 135."
Danny stilled. That was his Earth. His haunt.
"Does he know of the Realms?"
"Vaguely, I believe."
"Then he should know the rules. I will wait to see if my Earth's heroes are capable to step to the task."
Danny would be a hypocrite if he doesn’t let the heroes of his Earth try first, even if he is one of those heroes.
"Of course," Clockwork grinned at him, fully aware of the shit Danny's about to stir back home. Ah, the wonders of being able to influence the time stream. Perhaps the young Ghost King will finally get some friends, and maybe get those pesky speedsters to stop making his jobs so hard. Cujo yipped at Danny as the King begrudgingly moved onto the next topic.
——
Raven shuddered as she watched the footage of her "brothers" laughing while steering their human "meatbags" around. She turned back to the giant circle of donated blood and herb filled candles.
“This is a nuclear option, don’t you think?” Green Arrow mumbled, clearly not against it by the half hearted way he’d said it. The Star City billionaire nursed his cracked ribs.
“No,” she floated over to where Zatanna and Constantine kneeled, trying to see if they needed help with the inscriptions. “Trigon is coming soon, and my brothers will no doubt find their way here in a moment. We are out of time.”
“Yeah. Plus, we don’t want Raven to be turned into a portal.” Garfield piped up, switching animal forms rapidly.
“No one dies.” Red Robin muttered. His wrist computer was open, monitoring the surroundings of the open field they found themselves uneasily occupying. Batman grunted in affirmation, eyeing the tree line. Every hero except the magical ones were on look out, preparing themselves for one more battle against the two demons that were trying to take Raven and force her into becoming a portal.
“Hey guys, we might want to hurrythisupbecausethey’re kind of close!” Impulse slammed into the room.
“Done.” Zatanna got up, motioning for everyone to step back. In Superman’s case, he floated back.
“Too bad you won’t get to use it,” a voice drawled, dripping with malice and the screams of a thousand souls.
“Come now, little sister. Why fight fate? Be grateful father has deigned to spare you. If not for your dirty blood being useful, you would be dead, little sister. Give up, before our patience runs out alongside the lives of your little pets.” Another, mocking, voice gleefully rumbled.
Raven would rather gouge out her own heart than to claim these two as any type of family.
“You won’t touch them.” Raven snarled, powers rising even as the marks on her body burned a painful red.
“Buy us some time!”
With that, the group of beaten and battered heroes rose to clash against just two demons, for a chance to save their world.
——
The Circle crackled. Danny felt a tug on his core. He followed the thread of the summoning. Oh. It was his haunt. Earth 135. Hm. It tasted of blood. Desperation? A hint of anticipation. Oh, an overload of fear. Could use some more hope, but Danny understood that it was rather hard to season these kinds of summonings with hope.
“Stop.” Danny commanded, straightening in his chair.
“Sire, we have more-”
“There is an issue with my haunt,” with that, he followed the summons.
——
“Ugh,” was the first thing everybody on the frozen battlefield heard. The demons had smacked away many of the heroes, but they all turned as one when the circle lit up a bright green. “Why do you people always use blood? I’m dead, I don’t need any more iron!”
A boy
Raven’s eldest brother let out a hideous rumble. “You fools tried to summon the king, and you got a dead boy. And now, you’ve doomed another.”
Constantine looked resigned, and regretful. “I am so, so sorry,” he whispered. It was just a kid. John might be a lot of things, but even he found summoning dead kids for demons to devour was just a step too far. “Shite, we got the wrong fucking-”
“Hey, man, that’s rude,” the boy snapped back, waving John off.
“Brother, kill the whelp.”
“I vote on not killing the whelp. Not killing at all, really,” the boy stepped out of the massive blood circle, wrinkling his nose at the drying stains.
“This is not one of your pesky democracies, fool.”
In response, the demons lunged at him, ignoring the screams of the surrounding heroes as they shoved their human arms through the boy’s stomach.
“So,” the boy continues, “I heard your dad was after my haunt?”
“Your haunt, whelp? This earth shall be his! And through him, ours!” Raven slammed against the demons with her power, shadows enlarging and tossing them away from the unharmed… ghost boy?
“Is it?”
——
Wow, these demons are so rude. Normally, it’d be a breath of fresh air compared to the stuffy halls of his throne room. But since they’re attacking his haunt…
“Thanks. You’re… Raven, right?”
Raven nodded, arms outstretched in concentration as she held her brothers back.
“You have to go. We’re- we’re sorry you got pulled into this, but it’s not safe here.”
“Eh. It’s cool. You don’t have to do that anymore, by the way.” Danny stepped forward once more, green skin shifting and gliding as everything about him sharpened. He flew at the demons piloting the human shells, catching them around the necks and dragging the demons out of their stolen bodies. The threw them even further away as he floated in the air, a beacon of green and white. Raven thought it looked like hope.
“My name is Phantom, the High King of the Infinite Realms,” let it be known that Danny always had an eye for dramatic entrances. He shifted into something more off, more eldritch, more kingly. The crown flared to life above his head. “You have invaded my haunt. You have challenged me. What do you plead?”
“You’re not-” they said.
“Wrong answer,” Danny flew at them once more, body contorting into something undeniably terrorizing, his maw unhinging and crunching down on the demons with a sound that made the present heroes cringe.
“Ugh,” Danny grunted, turning back and floating peacefully to the group of heroes- Tucker and Sam would be so stoked he met Wonder Woman and Batman!- and chewed rapidly. He shifted back into his normal form. “Eating demons always leaves me with indigestion. And their bones get everywhere up in my teeth!” Danny pulled out a giant femur looking bone from his mouth, despite it not logically fitting in there.
“Right. No eating demons, solid life advice.” Red Robin said.
“Right? So, you’re Raven! It’s nice to meet you! Think you can summon your dear ol’ dad for me?”
“But we summoned you to stop Trigon, not help him come here.” Superman said, frowning.
“One! That summoning circle is wack. Those things you piled up as offerings? Mid. Also, if you thought you could control me with those terribly written spells, you’re dead wrong. And yes, I am making puns about death.” Danny jabs an aggressive finger towards the shabby circle.
“Have you considered that maybe not every being that can be summoned wants a shit ton of useless blood? Like what if I wanted food? And two, how am I supposed to beat up Trigon if he’s still stuck in the prison realm?”
“I have a cup of coffee,” Nightwing offered. “Kid Flash could probably get you food, right?”
“Yep, surethinganythingyouwantyourMajesty.”
“You wouldn’t catch me alive accepting food from a speedster. You people fuck up the timelines so much,” Danny grumbled, crunching on the last of Raven’s brothers. Raven thought she should probably sit down.
“But you’re dead.” Batman said, something about his voice catching the sharp attention of his protégés who all started making cutting motions at him.
“Fair,” Danny pointed at him, grinning. “I’ll take two pizza and Nightwing’s coffee as payment for taking care of your little demon overlord problem. Raven, summon your dad.”
