Scarlet tanagers are red enough to begin with but when you see them in that first sunrise light they look like they're lit from within.

March 23, 2024 - Rose-throated Tanager (Piranga roseogularis)
Found only in the Yucatán Peninsula in parts of Mexico, Guatemala, and Belize, these birds live in and around forests and shrublands. The details of their diet are not known but they forage in trees and sometimes undergrowth, often with mixed-species flocks and have been seen following swarms of army ants. Their breeding behavior has not been studied.

BOTD: Flame-colored Tanager
Photo: Luis Guillermo
"Native to mountain forests of Mexico and Central America, this tanager was never found in our area until 1985, when a male spent the breeding season in Arizona's Chiricahua Mountains, paired with a female Western Tanager. Since then the species has appeared several more times in Arizona and has nested there more than once."

Another "life" bird in my son's backyard! Tiburon, CA The male has the "fiery" colors, red throat and supraorbital feathers (derived mainly from insects in the diet), and bright yellow body.
