I feel like nobody on Tumblr knows that the international space station is being discontinued.
Did you know that? In less than a decade it will be gone

Hi! So, I wasn't very happy with how this piece had come out when I last uploaded it. It felt a bit out of focus, and there was something about the lighting that was bugging me. So, with help from the amazing @whirligig-girl and my great friend @bjekkergauken, I did what I could to improve upon it!
It's not perfect, and there are definitely some areas I would love to fix if I had more time, but I think I'm satisfied with how this came out! Image ID will be in the reblogs, like last time. :)

the "International Space Station"
The station was designed between 1984 and 1993. Elements of the station were in construction throughout the US, Canada, Japan, and Europe beginning in the late 1980s.
The International Space Station Program brings together international flight crews, multiple launch vehicles, globally distributed launch and flight operations, training, engineering, and development facilities, communications networks, and the international scientific research community.
(The International Space Station photographed by Expedition 56 crew members from a Soyuz spacecraft after undocking. NASA astronauts Andrew Feustel and Ricky Arnold and Roscosmos cosmonaut Oleg Artemyev executed a fly around of the orbiting laboratory to take pictures of the station before returning home after spending 197 days in space.)

(via Russia spacecraft crashes into Moon during its 1st lunar mission in nearly 50 years)
Driving the news: Russia's space agency Roscosmos announced on Telegram that after a maneuver, Luna-25 ended up in the wrong orbit and
"ceased to exist as a result of a collision with the lunar surface,"
 according to a Google translation.

happy 23rd anniversary to taco bell trying to "catch" a crashing space station
The Russian MIR space station (1986-2001) ended it's mission via controlled de-orbit into the atmosphere on March 23, 2001. Atmospheric de-orbit means there's gonna be debris, and taco bell decided "lol you know what would be a great marketing idea?"
Tumblr media
a giant 40' x 40' floating target off the southern pacific ocean on the coast of Australia.
if MIR hit it, everyone in the US would get a free taco. obviously it didn't hit it, but instead they had a 2 tacos for $0.99 deal.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
apparently taco bell spent $230 mil on "taco insurance" for this
I don't think they'll do this again when the ISS gets decommissioned in a few years (sorry if you had to learn this way, see my other post about it here) but it would be pretty funny

My step-brother is graduating from high school soon, so I wanted to make him a little present. He had said Jupiter was his favorite, so I decided to set up a little scene for him as congratulations for all his hard work!
Apart from Amalthea, Io is visible towards the right limb of Jupiter, and Callisto is visible on the far left just a bit above Amalthea's landscape.

The Russian space agency Roscosmos has confirmed that its Luna 25 lander crashed on the Moon following an anomaly in one of the maneuvers that was supposed to lead to its Moon landing on Monday. The problems began on Saturday, when there was the problem and communications were lost. An examination of the telemetry data received up to that point led to the conclusion that the impulse was excessive, leading to a trajectory that caused a crash. Yet another problem in the Russian space program will bring consequences yet to be assessed in the Luna-Glob program which is based on increasingly ambitious missions for the next few years and had already accumulated years of delay.

December 15, 2022 The Konstantin Chaykin website confirms two of their large black-blue chronographs were worn during ISS spacewalks. However, as reported on MoonwatchUniverse, their article is incomplete as the watches were spotted during at least 4 ISS EVA (spacewalks) between September 3, 2021 and August 17, 2022. These have been worn by cosmonauts Olega Novistky, Denis Matveyev and Oleg Artemyev. (Screenshot: https://chaykin.ru/en/news/Chaykin_space_watch/ )
