more college!abby
abby makes it very clear early on in the relationship how she feels about drugs. she obviously does not use any sort of drugs aside from the single drink she allows herself at parties, seeing as she is a varsity athlete and came from a medical family. however, she does understand that y/n may not have the same feelings towards them.
she can understand the interest in the recreational use of weed. it was soothing and generally did not harm the body as drastically as any other drugs did so long as it didn't become something that they were reliant on. to be quite honest, if she hadn't been subjected to regular drug tests by her coach, she would probably partake herself.
she didn't mind when y/n chose to smoke some weed at parties with her friends, and she could honestly say that she enjoyed the nights when she would take a thc gummy before their weekly movie nights; y/n would just sit there and giggle away, and then would eventually become so handsy that abby had to force her to go to bed.
when it came to the hard stuff, though, that's when she got nervous. the thing was, she knew that she couldn't prevent y/n from doing anything, she could only warn her against it. she always would, and if y/n still decided to go ahead with it, she only asked that she let abby know beforehand and be safe. there were things she would take into consideration before she actually stepped in and didn't allow her to do something, such as how much she might have drank already, what kind of drug it was, and who was offering it.
one time, they were at a party and someone offered both of them some molly. of course, everyone knew that abby would decline, the offer was simply a courtesy. when y/n glanced up at her, abby only shrugged and told her that it was her choice, and even pointed out that she had only a few sips of her first drink. y/n agreed, taking the pill and anxiously waiting for the effects to kick in while abby ensured that no one would fuck with her when they finally did. it turns out, molly really is the love drug, because all she could do was slide her hands up and down abby's toned stomach while she scattered sloppy kisses across any exposed flesh she could reach. abby didn't mind it too much, but was definitely on guard for the remainder of the night to ensure that nothing happened to her girl.
the one time that y/n actually got drugged was a different story. she'd been a bit suspicious all night about that one guy that seemed to be lingering around. the campus pub was busy that night, and she hadn't exactly been concerned when y/n seemed a little tipsy; she was hanging out with abby's friends, and some of them weren't exactly welcoming, if you know what i mean (and yes, i will be expanding on this). she had been watching y/n from across the bar as she played darts with nora and mel, vaguely listening to manny's story about his most recent conquest when she noticed the quiver of her knees. she had furrowed her brows, watching closer as she gripped the wall, shaking her head slowly as mel touched her back in concern. abby was on her feet in a second as she watched her tumble to the floor, eyes rolling back in her head as she completely blacked out. she was concerned first and foremost, but anger took a close second; for a moment, it was aimed at y/n when she thought that she had gotten so drunk that she couldn't stand, and then because of how painfully obvious the situation was when nora noted that she hadn't even finished her first drink. after an overnight stay in the er and a very uncomfortable first phone call with y/n's parents, abby decided that she would not be letting y/n out of her sight in that kind of setting again.
if y/n were to have had issues with drugs in the past, i can picture abby having a tough-love approach when it comes to keeping her clean. obviously she understands that the process is not easy, but she makes it clear that she isn't willing to be with someone who cares more about drugs than her or their own life.
in saying that, she isn't going to take off when the going gets tough. if she can sense that y/n is getting stressed out or anxious enough that she might relapse, she'll comfort her in the best way she can. she offers her unconditional love and support from herself and will likely reach out to y/n's friends and family who know about her issue for support as well. she's not going to let her slip away so easily.
if the situation did happen to occur where she relapses, abby is there for her as well. if anything, she would probably feel some guilt for allowing it to happen without noticing the signs, especially knowing that relapsing would probably cause a complete mental breakdown for her. she had been so happy to finally get clean, and now she had to go through it all over again.
the withdrawls were the hardest part. she suffered with fevers, nausea, depression, etc, etc. abby did her best to help her through it, but would probably fold under the pressure of doing it alone and end up taking y/n back to her hometown. she would stay with her and her family for a bit, doing as much of her work online as possible, but the simple fact that she now had the help of y/n's family to help her cope was exponentially better than before. now all she could hope for was a smooth recovery, and for it to never happen again.

POM POM: KILLER OF MASCOT GAMES VOL.2 Issue #5
Rayman...
"Oopsie! Looks like ya missed me. I needed to get out of sight.
Meanwhile, enjoy the Drove of Stone-faces figure out their special scavenger hunt! You can't see me, but I can see how much fun they're having...
heh...
That's odd, isn't it. Why is he so pale. I haven't seen that screen before. And I didn't know Stoney smoked- he sure didn't smell like it anytime he got close enough. Hm...
We may have a relapse on our hands. hmhmhmhm!-
Ohhhh-and Poor Rayman. You know, his situation wouldn't be that bad if that STUPID Porkchop crew over there didn't mess up my playdates in the first place. Stone is at fault for this.
I suuuurrreee hope they can put him back together again.
Alrighty-I think I have alllllll the info I need about our pal. I'm done here. I'm tired. I need to go home now. I'll make sure to make a lot of noise when I leave the trees so I'm followed.
AAAAHHHH-I can't wait to be back home in my own clothing and bed. Orange is only good on me in Rainbow."

Pom Pom is a virus/glitch formed by the scrapped side-scrolling arcade game from the early 90's “Pom-Pom Panic”. Pom Pom (the main character of Pom Pom Panic) for whatever reason gained sentience halfway during the game’s development. The game was cancelled halfway because the publishing company thought it was too bizarre of a concept and mascot character to gain interest. Pom Pom heard of the news and took it way too personally, as she literally cannot fathom why someone would think she’s ‘bizarre’-even to the point of getting ‘axed’. Prompted by the ‘poor judgement’ Pom Pom went rouge-breaking from her game to ‘axe’ any ‘approved’ game mascots/characters she thought could count as ‘bizarre’ like her.
Power Officer Stone:
Stone is the amalgamation of a couple things, exactly what people aren't sure of, but it's safely assumed that he's a mix between scrapped virtual PSA mascots, an antivirus/piracy program, and the anti drug campaigns they used to put in arcade games. Stone is the embodiment of anti piracy screens and uses all of his time to prevent virtual crimes and viruses. He also can duplicate himself and multitask. However, because of his frustrations against the fact that he can't really punish pirates in real life, he often bounces the punishment to the closest playable character. For that, he's infamous amongst most virtual realms.

About Me HW: 182-lbs
CW:120-lbs
UGW: 105-lbs
I am 26 y/o college graduate who works full-time. Was recovered for a while but relapsed in 2021 after hitting HW. I am getting married this Spring to the love of my life. I am Gluten Intolerant and have a very sensitive stomach. I love K-pop, fashion, early 2000s TV, cooking, fitness, smoking weed, and anything related to online tea. Absolutely obsessed with trying new diet soda flavors. I have been disordered since the age of 15 and have gone through ana, mia, and BED over the years Proudly Self Harm free since 2018!
What's the Point of This Blog?
When I relapsed in 2021, I discovered pro-ana forums for the first time and I learned that there is a sub-section of proana that is actually pro-harm reduction. I resonated with it because I am not ready for help nor is it an option without losing my job and everything I worked hard for. I feel like I have no choice but to manage my symptoms and reduce the harm to my health the best I can on my own, and I am FAR from being the only person with an ED who feels like this. Many of us have a lot to lose if we seek treatment and that very fact prevents us from seeking help. The next best thing we can do for ourselves is change how we see and interact with disordered thoughts. Instead of starving yourself because you want to disappear what if you tried to slowly and steadily lose weight so that you can do something you always denied yourself, something that you always told yourself you weigh too much to do? I know from experience, that losing weight quick and dirty only makes you feel worse and DOESN'T LAST once you start to eat normally again. Sustainable lifestyle changes are the only way to prevent loose skin, stay on track with a bingeing problem, and keep your metabolism and hormones from going out of wack, (reducing the negative symptoms and long-term health effects of ED.) If you don't believe it's possible, I have lost over 60+lbs while struggling with Bingeing over the course 18 months and have maintained that loss for about 1 year with absolutely no period regain. I went from a US dress size 14 to a size 6 and in the last year that I have stayed 120lbs, I now fit into a size 4 from body recomposition.
How Did You Do It?
1. Address negative thoughts when you can, when you say sweeping statements like "I always mess up" or "Everyone hates me" Challenge those thoughts with facts. Is that really true or does it just feel that way in the moment? Be honest with yourself, not dalulu. Motivation is always coming and going and you can't rely on self-hate to keep you on your diet, people who hate themselves rarely take good care of themselves and stay on track.
2. You don't have to eat low res to lose weight, instead create a proper and sustainable calorie deficit. Use this link to find your BMR and look at the activity level to see how many calories you really burn in a day, most anas underestimate this number. Whatever that BMR number is, subtract 500 calories, this will give you the amount you can eat and still lose 1 lb per week! 3500cals of deficit = 1 lb of loss. 1 lb per week sounds slow but having consistent loss week after week is so healing for someone who has alot of ups and downs emotionally from weight fluxs. If that sounds like you, give slower loss a shot! 3. Stop punishing yourself and find things that you enjoy instead. If you are taking away food to punish yourself or using increased exercise to punish yourself, you are actively sabotaging the only things that help you with weight loss. If you use those things as punishments, you are less likely to want to do them AT ALL. It's so important to find an enjoyable exercise that you look forward to and that relieves stress. Exercise is there to help you maintain your health/weight and using it as a punishment takes all the joy away from it and makes it into a chore you dread and avoid. Instead of taking away food, focus on buying higher quality food in smaller portions, you will find it tastes better and you look forward to planning your meals around those ingredients. 4. Eat high volume low calorie whole foods. Alot of packaged "health" food is just as bad as junk food, they just put a trendy-looking design on the package and the word "natural" slapped on it. before you buy or eat anything you need to be looking at the label on the back. If you want to feel more satisfied with your meals, try to get at least 60g of protein a day and avoid food that is calorically dense especially when you don't have access to a food scale. Try to eat more foods that contain one ingredient and when eating a full meal, try to fill your plate with 2 large servings of vegetables, one serving of protein, and one small serving of a grain or starchy vegetable. This ratio of food helps you feel full and keeps the calories low! If you have any more questions feel free to use my inbox! If you need help to reduce harm and feel like you are beyond helping yourself, please get help from a trusted loved one. Your well-being is worth more than what ever trouble you might get in asking for help. Nothing you did could ever warrant or make you deserve to not live. You are worthy of love and good health and I hope this helps you get a step closer to that.

The thing is that I used to be human. He made me snap one day, and since then, I've never felt like one since. You see, I deal with mental health issues, and when you add a gaslighting man into the mix, it's enough to make you snap.
Call me Dollie. I'm 27, Borderline, anxious as all hell, and a quiet sociopath. I admit, I'm a stoner, so smoking prevents me from snapping. The steam is still building up, as I resent my current abuser partner for a multitude of things. So I made this blog to blow off some steam, not relapse, and cope with all of the intrusive thoughts I have. I am aware they are not pretty, but just block if you don't like me.
Trigger Warning for: g0re, vi0lenc3, Drvgs, and more.

No Longer Human by Osamu Dazai (read in June '23)
Quote:
"I was frightened even by God. I could not believe in His love, only in His punishment. Faith. That, I felt, was the act of facing the tribunal of justice with one's head bowed to receive the scourge of God. I could believe in hell, but it was impossible for me to believe in the existence of heaven."
Genre:
Literary Fiction (semi-autobiographical)
Pages:
177
Content (spoilers+heavyCW+heavy TW):
This book contains 3 notebooks. The main character is called Yozo.
- 1st Notebook:
Yozo is incapable of understanding others, starting in his early years. To develop relationships, the main character loses himself in clowning. He also got sexually ab*sed by servants but in his opinion, reporting it was useless.
- 2nd Notebook:
The clowning goes on in his early school years. Taken by surprise, his classmate Takeichi exposes Yozo's fake facade. To prevent Takeichi from revealing the secret, he becomes friends with him. Yozo starts doing art. A self portrait of Yozo was the reason why Takeichi predicts Yozo is going to be a great artist in the future.
After school, Yozo enrolls in a university in Tokyo. There, he becomes friend with another artist called Horiki. During that time, he loses himself in drinking, smoking and harlotry and attends communist meetings without being one.
At one point, he spends the night with a married woman, and they commit double suicide (shinjuu) by drowning. He survives and is left with a great grief.
-3rd Notebook:
Yozo's life goes downhill when he is expelled from university. A friend of the family gives him shelter. During that time, he tries to develop a relationship with a single mother and her daughter, but soon, he returns to his drinking habits and abandons these two eventually, due to his fear of humanity. After that, he gets to know Yoshiko, a young inexperienced woman who wants him to stop drinking.
Yoshiko is a positive influence on his life, hence he stops drinking and starts his career as a cartoonist. When Horiki becomes a part of his life again, Yozo relapses in his self destructive habits again. While he discusses antonyms with Horiki, Yoshiko gets sexually ass*ulted by an acquaintance. This leads to Yozo's second s*icide attempt (sleeping drugs). After his release from the hospital, Yozo gets addicted to morphine and the book ends with him ending up in a mental hospital, feeling neutral - neither happy nor sad.
Opinion+rating:
9.5/10
I really enjoyed reading No Longer Human, it's really well written, and one can sympathise with Yozo even though one does not relate to him.
But be aware of the book containing really sensitive topics!
Until next time! <3

NIGHTFALL [x] characters >> mikhail koshechkin (oc), vincent mayer (oc) total >> 1.5k words warnings >> blood mention, death mention, smoking (/+ relapse)
It was raining in Night City.
It had been, for the last few days. It had not stopped since they had made their escape from the Arasaka facility, as if the skies knew- as if they had seen what had happened and mourned with them, their tears a continuous downpour on the overly crowded streets.
Mikhail sat in the windowsill, clutching Vitali’s cigarette case in both hands and head resting against the cold glass of the window as he stared out over the neon-lit cityscape. A city that truly never slept- unforgiving, and cruel to the bone.
He should have left years ago.
The door to the safehouse’s living room opened and Vincent walked in, dressed in some of Mikhail’s older clothes; they had not been able to go home yet after what had happened and Mikhail had not visited their current hideout in years, so they had to make do with what they had. Which really was not much.
Neither of them spoke as Vincent joined him, carefully hopping onto the windowsill and leaning against Mikhail’s legs as their eyes briefly met- though Mikhail was unable to hold his gaze, jaw clenching when the knot in his chest tightened again.
It had seemed like a good idea, somehow- breaking into the Arasaka facility with half-assed preparation, barely any manpower and little to no spare ammo. Considering the circumstances- most of all Vincent’s timer running out- a bad idea was truly better than none, though they still had managed to severely underestimate the situation.
“A simple job- in and out, back home before nightfall.”
And yes, they had made it back home, in the end- all except one.
‘Didn’t know you smoke.’
Mikhail glanced up, Vincent’s question surprising him; it was only then he realized he had opened the case and was loosely holding a cigarette between his fingers. A familiar feeling- one he thought had been lost to time, yet it still came so naturally to him, almost frighteningly so.
‘I…have not in a long time,’ he replied, absently rolling the cigarette between his fingers. ‘Vitali-’ A pause, and a shaky exhale. ‘Vitali and I promised each other we would stop, when we graduated high school.’
Another silence fell over the room and Mikhail carefully looked up at Vincent. The mention of Vitali’s name had caused him to sink further against Mikhail’s legs, and his eyes restlessly darted around as if he was searching for something- anything- to focus on.
Even in just the faint light of the distant billboards, Mikhail could tell they were hazy with tears.
‘Guess he didn’t really come through with that, huh?’ Vincent mumbled, a futile attempt to lighten the mood; though his voice broke as the words left his lips and he visibly winced, a single tear escaping the corner of his eye and rolling down his cheek.
Mikhail closed his eyes. He heard Vincent sob and the muscles in his shoulders and neck tensed up- tics flaring up from the sudden stress rushing through his system, and his grip on the cigarette case tightened as he tried to push Vitali out of his head-
There’d been so much blood.
Mikhail could still see it all so clearly; Vitali standing in the middle of the terrain, gun still loosely resting in one of his hands, gently swaying from side to side- and the other clutching his chest, dark blood trickling between his fingers and rapidly running down his forearm, dripping onto the asphalt and mixing with the cold rainwater at his feet.
He had looked up- confused, almost, head turning slightly and eyes darting around in their sockets as if he was searching for someone- and he had fallen, and there was nothing Mikhail could have done to prevent him from bleeding out, and they had left, they had left him there and Mikhail had gone back for him but all he had found was a large stain covering the floor, Vitali’s body nowhere to be seen-
His tears fell like raindrops. Trickled down his pale skin and dripped onto his shirt, his pants, the windowsill- though they were silent, and the wailing rainstorm outside drowned out Vincent’s sobs as the dark room around them suddenly felt so big, so cold- and so empty.
Mikhail forced himself to look back up, vision blurry as he searched for Vincent. He placed the case on the windowsill, carefully reached out and softly tugged on Vincent’s sleeve, pulling him closer until Vincent rested against Mikhail’s pulled up knees and wrapped his arms around his lower legs, sobbing into the fabric of his pants.
‘He loved you,’ Mikhail heard himself say. ‘He loved you- so, so much. You know that, yes?’
Vincent did not answer, his body trembling and shaking as he pressed himself closer to Mikhail. He tried to speak, but what left his mouth was incoherent; in response, Mikhail leaned forward and wrapped his arms around Vincent’s shoulders, burying his face into his hair.
“Home before nightfall.”
The words haunted him. All of it did- and how could it not, after what he had said? What he had told Vitali, back in the facility, only moments before he had taken his final breath?
‘He loved you,’ Mikhail repeated, pushing the thoughts out of his head- he could not afford to feel sorry for himself. Not now. ‘V- Hey, look at me.’
Vincent slowly raised his head, his eyes red and unfocused as he looked up at Mikhail.
‘I still remember when you two met,’ Mikhail quietly said, gently running his shaking fingers through Vincent’s hair. ‘Vitali really could not shut up about you, you know that? He always talked about new mercs to me, but you… You were different.’
Everything had changed- for all of them, even him. But Mikhail could not talk about that.
‘He was so happy to be able to help you out,’ he continued, ‘so happy you wanted to spend more time with him and- well, he was in love. Never said it to me, at first, but… I could tell he was.’
Vincent had stopped crying, head heavy against Mikhail’s knees as his breathing became stable and his grip on Mikhail’s legs loosened. Mikhail hesitantly lowered his hand to cup Vincent’s cheek, and force him to look up at him once more.
‘You managed to bring out a side of him that in all my years of knowing him I have never seen before,’ Mikhail said, painful jabs shooting through his chest with every word he spoke. ‘I know you did not have much time together, but- you truly made him so happy. And he loved you, so much.’
Vincent’s eyes fluttered shut and he leaned in to Mikhail’s touch, exhaling as the muscles in his upper body visibly relaxed. Mikhail unclenched his jaw- finally, and dropped his hand again, a sudden exhaustion washing over him.
His eyes were once more drawn to the cigarette case. He briefly hesitated; he had stopped for a good reason, and knew it would not be easy to put them down once he would start again.
Vitali is dead. Does it really fucking matter anymore?
Mikhail took the cigarette he had already taken out and reached into his pocket, to search for his lighter. As he did, Vincent moved; much to his surprise, he reached for the case and swiftly pulled a cigarette out as well, eyes meeting Mikhail’s as he did.
‘Just one,’ he shrugged. ‘Won’t make me die any faster than I already am.’
Mikhail said nothing as he leaned in again, cigarette pressed between his lips as he flicked on his lighter. Vincent leaned in as well, closer toward the gentle flame, and they lit their cigarettes together- and when Mikhail looked up at him he briefly saw Vitali, eleven years younger, sitting on the windowsill of his bedroom wearing only his flannel and some underwear, laughing at one of Mikhail’s jokes-
He took a drag, expecting to feel a high he had secretly been longing for ever since their promise; but instead he was met with absolutely nothing, a tasteless gulp of air with equally tasteless smoke leaving his lips on the exhale.
‘Is it- supposed to be like this?’ Vincent asked, staring at the cigarette in his hand with a puzzled look in his eyes; and for a brief moment, all the previous tension and sorrow weighing down on them was gone, and Mikhail scoffed as he draped his wrist over his knee- though it still sounded more like a sob.
‘Fake cigs,’ he wistfully said. ‘Fuck- of course.’
His eyes were drawn back to the window. It had just hit midnight, though it meant little as life on the streets below continued like any other day, like any other night- like any other hour in Night City.
‘God, Vito- you asshole.’

so uh. theoretically. what would grady do if wheatley died (through commiting oyasumi or otherwise)
i just woke up so if this makes no sense my apologies
i feel like the cause would contribute to his reaction
if it was something like an accident or something preventable, he’d beat himself up over not being there
if it was something natural (as natural as robot death can be) he’d get over it faster but ultimately would feel awful that wheatley’s life was taken instead of his
and if it was um.. purposeful self-extermination.. he’d never truly recover. he’d relapse into the behaviors he had during charlie’s death and start smoking again
i believe he’d start smoking again at the slightest tell that wheatley was leaving him though and if wheatley didn’t leave, he’d feel like he’d failed him for falling back onto old habits so easily
back to the self-delete though. he’d definitely take this the hardest because he’d feel like he wasn’t paying close enough attention and could’ve gotten wheatley help when he didnt. and he’ll never forgive himself for that
if it was an accident or something natural, it wouldn’t hit as hard initially but would still make life a living hell for grady. he’d feel guilty that wheatley was the one who died, not him. he doesn’t think wheatley deserves that
after charlie’s death, he’d already experienced some suicidal thoughts (the line about him wondering if he could smoke himself to death too) and i think after wheatley’s they’d just kick into overdrive. especially now that he knows that a robot could die like that… he would be less hesitant to try it for himself
anyways yeah !! enjoy :)))

The 6 Stages of Behavior Change
The Transtheoretical or Stages of Change Model
By Kendra Cherry | Updated on July 28, 2021
Anyone who has ever made and broken a New Year's resolution can appreciate the difficulty of behavior change. Making a lasting change in behavior is rarely a simple process. It usually involves a substantial commitment of time, effort, and emotion.
Tumblr media
How to Get Started
Whether you want to lose weight, stop smoking, or accomplish another goal, there is no single solution that works for everyone. You may have to try several different techniques, often through a process of trial and error, to achieve your goal.
It's during this period that many people become discouraged and give up on their behavior change goals. The keys to achieving and maintaining your goals are to try new techniques and find ways to stay motivated.
Change might not come easily, but psychologists have developed effective ways to help people change their behavior. Therapists, physicians, and teachers use these techniques. Researchers have also proposed theories to explain how change occurs. Understanding the elements of change, the stages of change, and ways to work through each stage can help you achieve your goals.
The Elements of Change
To succeed, you need to understand the three most important elements in changing a behavior:
Readiness to change: Do you have the resources and knowledge to make a lasting change successfully?
Barriers to change: Is there anything preventing you from changing?
Likelihood of relapse: What might trigger a return to a former behavior?
Stages of Change Model
One of the best-known approaches to change is the Stages of Change or Transtheoretical Model, introduced in the late 1970s by researchers James Prochaska and Carlo DiClemente. They were studying ways to help people quit smoking.1 The Stages of Change model has been found to be an effective aid in understanding how people go through a change in behavior.
In this model, change occurs gradually and relapses are an inevitable part of the process. People are often unwilling or resistant to change during the early stages, but they eventually develop a proactive and committed approach to changing a behavior. This model demonstrates that change is rarely easy. It often requires a gradual progression of small steps toward a goal.
Stage 1: Precontemplation
Characteristics
Denial
Ignorance of the problem
Strategies
Rethink your behavior
Analyze yourself and your actions
Assess risks of current behavior
The earliest stage of change is known as precontemplation. During the precontemplation stage, people are not considering a change. People in this stage are often described as "in denial," because they claim that their behavior is not a problem. In some cases, people in this stage do not understand that their behavior is damaging, or they are under-informed about the consequences of their actions.
If you are in this stage, you may feel resigned to your current state or believe that you have no control over your behavior.
If you are in this stage, begin by asking yourself some questions. Have you ever tried to change this behavior in the past? How do you recognize that you have a problem? What would have to happen for you to consider your behavior a problem?
Stage 2: Contemplation
Characteristics
Ambivalence
Conflicted emotions
Strategies
Weigh pros and cons of behavior change
Confirm readiness and ability to change
Identify barriers to change
During this stage, people become more and more aware of the potential benefits of making a change, but the costs tend to stand out even more. This conflict creates a strong sense of ambivalence about changing. Because of this uncertainty, the contemplation stage of change can last months or even years.
Many people never make it past the contemplation phase.
You may view change as a process of giving something up rather than a means of gaining emotional, mental, or physical benefits. If you are contemplating a behavior change, there are some important questions to ask yourself: Why do you want to change? Is there anything preventing you from changing? What are some things that could help you make this change?
Stage 3: Preparation
Characteristics
Experimenting with small changes
Collecting information about change
Strategies
Write down your goals
Prepare a plan of action
Make a list of motivating statements
During the preparation stage, you might begin making small changes to prepare for a larger life change. For example, if losing weight is your goal, you might switch to lower-fat foods. If your goal is to quite smoking, you might switch brands or smoke less each day. You might also take some sort of direct action such as consulting a therapist, joining a health club, or reading self-help books.
If you are in the preparation stage, there are some steps you can take to improve your chances of successfully making a lasting life change. Gather as much information as you can about ways to change your behavior. Prepare a list of motivating statements. Write down your goals. Find resources such as support groups, counselors, or friends who can offer advice and encouragement.
Stage 4: Action
Characteristics
Direct action toward a goal
Strategies
Reward your successes
Seek out social support
During the fourth stage of change, people begin taking direct action in order to accomplish their goals. Oftentimes, resolutions fail because the previous steps have not been given enough thought or time.
For example, many people make a New Year's resolution to lose weight and immediately start a new exercise regimen, embark on a healthier diet, and cut back on snacks. These definitive steps are vital to success, but these efforts are often abandoned in a matter of weeks because the previous steps have been overlooked.
If you are currently taking action towards achieving a goal, congratulate and reward yourself for any positive steps you take. Reinforcement and support are extremely important in helping maintain positive steps toward change.
Take the time to periodically review your motivations, resources, and progress in order to refresh your commitment and belief in your abilities.
Stage 5: Maintenance
Characteristics
Maintenance of the new behavior
Avoiding temptation
Strategies
Develop coping strategies for temptation
Remember to reward yourself
The maintenance phase of the Stages of Change model involves successfully avoiding former behaviors and keeping up new behaviors. If you are trying to maintain a new behavior, look for ways to avoid temptation. Try replacing old habits with more positive actions. Reward yourself when you are able to successfully avoid a relapse.
If you do falter, don’t be too hard on yourself or give up. Instead, remind yourself that it was just a minor setback. As you will learn in the next stage, relapses are common and are a part of the process of making a lifelong change.
During this stage, people become more assured that they will be able to continue their change.
Stage 6: Relapse
Characteristics
Disappointment
Frustration
Feelings of failure
Strategies
Identify triggers that lead to relapse
Recognize barriers to success
Reaffirm your goal and commitment to change
In any behavior change, relapses are a common occurrence. When you go through a relapse, you might experience feelings of failure, disappointment, and frustration.
The key to success is to not let these setbacks undermine your self-confidence. If you lapse back to an old behavior, take a hard look at why it happened. What triggered the relapse? What can you do to avoid these triggers in the future?
While relapses can be difficult, the best solution is to start again with the preparation, action, or maintenance stages of behavior change.
You might want to reassess your resources and techniques. Reaffirm your motivation, plan of action, and commitment to your goals. Also, make plans for how you will deal with any future temptations.
Resolutions fail when the proper preparation and actions are not taken. By approaching a goal with an understanding of how to best prepare, act, and maintain a new behavior, you will be more likely to succeed.

The Journey to Quitting Smoking
The decision to quit smoking is a brave and challenging one. It often begins with a desire to improve health, save money, or set a positive example for loved ones. The journey involves overcoming nicotine addiction and breaking habits ingrained over time. While it can be tough, many find it transformative and empowering.
How Does It Feel After You Quit Smoking?
After you quit smoking, you might notice immediate changes in how you feel physically and emotionally. The sense of freedom from addiction is liberating. Your sense of taste and smell improves, and you might even experience a boost in energy levels. However, it’s important to note that the first few weeks can be challenging as your body adjusts to the absence of nicotine.
Physical Changes and Improvements
Quitting smoking leads to a series of positive physical changes. Your lung function improves, making breathing easier and more efficient. You'll also notice a decrease in coughing and shortness of breath. Your cardiovascular health benefits as well, with a lower risk of heart disease and stroke. Additionally, your skin may look healthier and more vibrant.
Mental and Emotional Adjustments
As you adjust to life without smoking, you might experience a range of emotions. Some people feel a sense of accomplishment and pride, while others may struggle with mood swings or irritability. It's important to acknowledge these feelings and seek support if needed. Many find that their mental clarity and focus improve once they quit.
Financial Benefits
Quitting smoking can lead to substantial financial savings over time. Consider how much you spent on cigarettes in the past and how much you'll save by quitting. These savings can be redirected toward other goals or treats, making the financial aspect a rewarding part of quitting.
Social Impacts
Quitting smoking can have a positive impact on your social life. You'll no longer need to step outside for a smoke during social gatherings, and your breath and clothes will smell fresher. Non-smokers may appreciate not having to be around smoke, and you may find it easier to connect with others.
Long-Term Health Benefits
In the long run, quitting smoking reduces the risk of various cancers, including lung and throat cancer. Your lung function continues to improve, and your body gradually heals. Over time, your risk of heart disease and stroke decreases significantly. These long-term health benefits are a strong motivator to stay smoke-free.
Strategies for Managing Withdrawal
Managing nicotine withdrawal can be one of the most challenging aspects of quitting smoking. Strategies such as exercise, meditation, and keeping busy can help manage cravings. Nicotine replacement therapies or medications may also assist in easing the withdrawal process. Support from friends, family, or support groups can make a big difference.
Dealing with Triggers
Triggers can vary for each person but often include stress, social situations, or certain places associated with smoking. Identifying these triggers is key to managing them effectively. Strategies such as avoiding triggers or finding alternative coping mechanisms, like chewing gum or deep breathing exercises, can be helpful.
The Importance of Support Systems
Having a strong support system can greatly aid in the journey to quit smoking. Friends, family, and support groups can provide encouragement and understanding. Sharing your experience and seeking advice from others can be motivating and helpful.
Relapse Prevention
Relapse is a common challenge, but it doesn’t mean failure. Recognizing the signs of a potential relapse and having a plan in place can help you stay on track. Remind yourself of the reasons you quit and the progress you’ve made. If you do relapse, don’t be too hard on yourself—get back on track as soon as you can.
Personal Stories and Testimonials
Hearing from others who have successfully quit smoking can be inspiring. Personal stories and testimonials offer insights into the journey, challenges, and successes of others. These narratives provide hope and motivation for those looking to quit.
Conclusion
Quitting smoking is a life-changing decision that brings numerous physical, emotional, and financial benefits. While the journey may have its challenges, the rewards are well worth it. Embrace the changes and improvements that come with being smoke-free, and remember that support is available every step of the way.

Exploring the Impact of Vaping on Cellular Changes
Tumblr media
You may have encountered headlines suggesting that vaping can cause changes at the cellular level. This article delves into the details of recent research, evaluating what these changes mean and how they compare to the effects of traditional smoking. Does Vaping Lead to Cancer? Contrary to some alarming headlines, the research in question does not directly link vaping to cancer. Instead, it examines alterations in cellular behavior, not DNA mutations associated with cancer development. Thus, while certain cellular changes were observed, their implications for health remain unclear at this stage. Learn more about cellular mutations and cancer. Despite vaping being relatively new, and its long-term effects still under study, evidence suggests that legal vaping products are significantly less harmful than traditional cigarettes and can aid smokers in quitting. Research Methodology: What Was Studied? The focus of the research was on epigenetics—the study of chemical modifications that influence gene activity without altering the DNA sequence. These modifications can activate or suppress gene expression, adapting to environmental changes. Such epigenetic changes, often temporary, were examined for their frequency and patterns in smokers and, to a lesser extent, vapers and users of smokeless tobacco. Key Findings: Understanding the Changes The research revealed that methylation, a common epigenetic modification, varies among different cell types: - Cheek cells: directly exposed to smoke and showing methylation changes. - Cervical cells and blood cells: less directly exposed, yet also demonstrating changes. Interestingly, the study noted that the methylation patterns could alter depending on the duration someone had smoked, with some changes exclusively observed in current smokers. Interpreting the Results: What Does It Mean? While the study identifies patterns of methylation changes in vapers similar to those in smokers, the presence of these changes does not necessarily imply harm. They could: - Indicate a causal relationship with vaping or smoking. - Occur coincidentally. - Stem from other unknown environmental factors. This underscores the complexity of interpreting such early-stage research without more comprehensive data. Considerations for Vapers For individuals vaping as a means to cease smoking, the crucial advice is not to return to smoking. If you're contemplating quitting vaping, consult healthcare professionals to explore suitable alternatives that prevent relapse into smoking. Remember, while vaping is not without risks, decades of research have consistently shown that traditional smoking is far more detrimental to health. Explore options to quit smoking. The Future of Epigenetics in Cancer Research Epigenetics remains a promising field that could further our understanding of cancer development and other complex diseases. Continued research may unveil how lifestyle choices like vaping and smoking influence epigenetic changes and potentially lead to new intervention strategies. Legislative Actions: UK's Stance on Smoking and Vaping Recent legislative developments in the UK aim to pave the way for a smoke-free generation by gradually increasing the legal age for tobacco sales and addressing youth vaping. These initiatives reflect a commitment to reducing the health impacts associated with nicotine addiction. Read about the UK's Tobacco and Vapes Bill. Conclusion: Vaping and its effects continue to be studied, and while it presents lower risks compared to smoking, users should stay informed and consider health advice. If you're seeking to quit smoking, vaping could be a viable option to explore under proper guidance. Explore More: Ready to learn more about vaping and its comparative benefits? Dive deeper into how vaping can assist in smoking cessation and support a healthier lifestyle. Stay informed, make wise choices, and consider vaping as a step towards quitting tobacco. The Ethics of AI in Tobacco Control: Striking a Balance Between Public Health and Individual Choice
Tumblr media
The fight against tobacco continues, fueled by a powerful new weapon: artificial intelligence (AI). While AI offers immense potential to curb smoking rates and improve public health, its use raises ethical concerns that demand careful consideration. Striking a balance between protecting public health and respecting individual choice is no easy feat, and necessitates a nuanced approach to leveraging AI in tobacco control.
AI's Promise in Public Health:
AI boasts an impressive arsenal in the fight against tobacco:
Personalized Interventions: AI-powered apps and chatbots can tailor interventions to individual smokers, analyzing their behavior and triggers to offer targeted support and cessation strategies.
Predictive Analytics: AI can identify individuals most at risk of smoking or relapse, allowing for preventative measures and early intervention.
Marketing Countermeasures: AI can detect and disrupt targeted tobacco advertising campaigns, particularly those aimed at vulnerable populations like teenagers.
Traceability and Enforcement: AI can track the movement of tobacco products, aiding law enforcement in identifying and shutting down illegal trade.
These capabilities paint a compelling picture of a future where AI significantly reduces smoking rates and saves countless lives. However, amidst the hope, ethical considerations emerge like shadows.
Balancing Public Good and Individual Liberty:
The concerns surrounding AI in tobacco control revolve around striking a balance between public health and individual autonomy:
Privacy and Data Security: AI's reliance on personal data raises concerns about privacy breaches and potential misuse. Balancing the need for data-driven insights with robust data protection measures is crucial.
Algorithmic Bias: AI algorithms can be biased, potentially leading to discriminatory or unfair targeting of certain groups. Responsible data collection and algorithm development are vital to ensure inclusivity and avoid perpetuating inequalities.
Nudging vs. Coercion: The line between personalized support and intrusive nudging can be easily blurred. AI interventions should empower individuals to make informed choices, rather than manipulate or coerce them into quitting.
Transparency and Accountability: The algorithms and data used in AI tobacco control interventions should be transparent and open to public scrutiny. This strengthens trust and ensures ethical implementation.
Navigating the Ethical Landscape:
To harness the power of AI for good while safeguarding individual rights, we must:

Standing by the lake right now and the sound of the waves is more than enough compensation for the cold wind that is blowing through. Thinking about how beautiful the night sky is with Orion over the eastern horizon and Jupiter approaching zenith in the south. The skyline, city after city, strewn out all across the other edge of the lake.
Thinking also about how I don't want weed in my life. It makes my lungs feel gross, dulls me down and makes me feel self-conscious to the point where it hurts my self-esteem - and these things aren't preventable when I smoke more and more. Even a one-time use really opens the door for my brain to sabotage me back into everyday use. Life is good until I let it get too much of a hold over me, and then it isn't. Then I actually need to work for it all back.
Life is as beautiful as the night sky I'm staring up at and the late evening waves I'm listening to. I have plenty of reasons to pick myself back up and quit again. This relapse was only three weeks. I am committing to one more "fun experience" on weed and then also committing to that being my fill After that it's one day at a time thru the early insomnia and irritability. Lots of reasons to take it easy on myself :)

Alcohol De-addiction: Is it that easy?
Tumblr media
Alcohol de-addiction, commonly known as overcoming alcohol addiction, is a complex and challenging journey that millions of individuals embark on every year. While the prospect of breaking free from alcohol's grip may sound promising, the reality is that the path to recovery is not always a straightforward one.
In this blog, we will examine the various challenges individuals face when trying to overcome alcohol addiction and shed light on how to combat these challenges to find the truth behind the question: Is alcohol de-addiction that easy?
The Challenges
Physical and Mental Health Issues
Chronic alcohol abuse can lead to severe health problems, such as liver disease (e.g., cirrhosis), cardiovascular issues, neurological disorders, gastrointestinal complications, and an increased risk of certain cancers.
Alcoholism often co-occurs with mental health disorders, such as depression, anxiety, and other mood disorders.
Acknowledging the Problem
One of the first hurdles on the road to recovery is recognizing the presence of alcohol addiction. Denial is a strong mechanism that many individuals with alcoholism employ. It is an invisible barrier that prevents them from acknowledging the severity of their problem.
Breaking the Stigma
The societal stigma surrounding addiction can be a significant barrier for those seeking help when they need it the most. The misconception about addiction, discrimination, and isolation often becomes a hurdle to seeking help.
Strained Relationships
The compulsive and harmful behaviors associated with addiction can lead to a breakdown of trust, communication, and intimacy within relationships. As the addiction takes center stage, loved ones may feel neglected, abandoned, or burdened by the responsibilities caused by the addicted person's behavior.
Struggles with Relapses
Relapses are a common part of the recovery journey, but they can be discouraging. Relapse poses significant challenges for individuals in addiction recovery, as it can evoke guilt, shame, and discouragement. The struggle to regain sobriety is compounded by a sense of failure and loss of confidence.
How to Confront the Challenges
Building a Strong Support System
A robust support system can make a difference for someone trying to overcome alcohol addiction. The family, friends, and community support in sustaining recovery is of great significance.
Overcoming Triggers and Temptations
Triggers and temptations are inevitable in daily life. Staying away from places where alcohol is readily available, replacing alcohol with healthier drinks like various herbal teas, and engaging in physical activities and favorite sports help in overcoming the triggers.
Fostering Self-Compassion
The process of de-addiction can be emotionally taxing. The significance of self-compassion and self-forgiveness is vital components of healing.
Anti-addiction Medicines
Ayurvedic anti-addiction or nasha mukti medicines are formulated based on the principles of Ayurveda. These medicines aim to help individuals overcome various addictions, including alcohol, drugs, and smoking.
Ayurvedic anti-addiction medicines often start with detoxification to remove the accumulated toxins from the body. This process helps to cleanse the body and prepares it for further treatment.
Ayurvedic medicines use a wide range of natural herbs and plants with medicinal properties to support the body's healing process. These herbal formulations help to nourish and strengthen the body, reduce cravings, and improve mental clarity.
Celebrating Milestones and Victories
Recognizing and celebrating progress, no matter how small, is crucial for motivation. Acknowledge the milestones and celebrate the victories in resisting alcohol during the recovery journey.
Conclusion
In this blog, we have uncovered the reality behind the question, "Is alcohol de-addiction really that easy?" The path to deaddiction may be withered with obstacles, but it is undeniably worth traversing. With the right support, determination, and professional assistance, breaking free from alcohol addiction is achievable.

"Life After Rehab: 12 Ways to Stay On Track with Your Recovery"
Tumblr media
Treating substance abuse does not stop with the end of an addiction treatment program. After rehab, individuals must learn to navigate life to its fullest while preventing relapse and possible dangers. It is vital to consider the following 12 steps in order to ensure stable ground upon returning to the community. Find support: Those who are struggling with substance use disorder should seek reliable sources of advice and support. This includes seeking out professionals and mental health services, attending counseling, and keeping positive influences in life such as friends and family close. Take advantage of aftercare services: Aftercare services can include support groups, one-on-one counseling, family therapy, and other individualized support. Utilizing these services can be especially important in the first year after treatment. Participate in extracurricular activities: Joining an uplifting hobby or group can help alleviate stress while promoting healthy relationships outside of recovery programs. Interests such as art classes, community involvement, and volunteer work can all be great activities to get involved in. Prioritize your physical health: The most important thing for an individual in recovery is to put their physical health first. Eating healthy, exercising regularly, and getting enough sleep are essential. Avoiding unhealthy behaviors such as smoking cigarettes should also be avoided. Set realistic goals: Setting manageable goals can help make the transition to living sober easier. Writing down clear steps to reach a desired goal can help replace negative thoughts or behaviors with positive ones. Create structure through a schedule: Setting a daily routine with important self-care activities, such as meditation, journaling, and prayer, can be extremely helpful in maintaining long-term sobriety. Attend meetings: Twelve step meetings, such as Alcoholics Anonymous, can be one of the most beneficial aspects of recovering from substance abuse disorder. They provide an open-minded, positive environment for individuals to share experiences, find support, and make connections with those in similar boats. Know warning signs of relapse: It is important to be aware of warning signs of relapse in order to prevent it from happening. Red flags can include anything from spending time with "toxic" people to physical symptoms of substance withdrawal. Learning to identify these signs and how to respond can be the difference between a life of sobriety and a dangerous relapse. Set acquireable goals: Once you set realistic goals, it is essential to work on these goals daily. Celebrating every step, no matter how small, can help to keep an individual on track and motivated. Test your limits: It’s important to have a realistic understanding of what one can and cannot handle during recovery. Take small risks as your recovery progresses, and use the support network to determine how to deal with setbacks along the way. Practice gratitude: Take the time each day to practice self-gratitude for the progress achieved so far. This can include anything from being present in the moment to taking a break from the beauty of nature. Reconnect with purpose: Connection to something bigger than oneself is a powerful way to stay strong in recovery. Reflecting on what is important to you and how you will contribute to society can help to cultivate hope and put you on a better path. The 12 steps mentioned in this article are only some of the ways to stay secure in the transition from addiction treatment to a life of sobriety.
