calls of guilty thrown at me
a little soul-baring never hurt anyone (1/3)

Geralt/Jaskier - Soulmate AU
Word Count: 3792
Jaskier has known his soulmate for over twenty-two years, yet he's never felt the man's lips against his.
—OR—
Jaskier and Geralt go to a banquet, and Jaskier meets his rival-slash-ex-lover there. Somehow it gets emotional; there's some crying involved and soul-baring on both sides.
The way s(he) tells me I'm (his) and s(he) is mine
Open hand or closed fist would be fine
The blood is rare and sweet as cherry wine
If Jaskier wanted to count the number of times Geralt has saved his life, the number wouldn’t be accurate because twenty-two years of friendship means the many, many, many times Geralt has saved the hair on the top of his head. Jaskier is thinking this night is only another tally to Geralt’s score.
The bard was invited to perform for a ball at this duchy. It all started from a simple contract, really. Geralt was tasked by an ealdorman to take out the two—not one but two—drowned dead nests skirting the edge of the village, near the swamp. Obviously, when word got out that Geralt of Rivia was in town, the duke—a fan of Jaskier’s work—just had to invite the bard to entertain the village, a celebration of sorts after Geralt’s completed contract.
Jaskier could not refuse a man of such power, especially when he’s getting coin. Besides, it has been a while since he’s performed in front of a regal crowd.
Geralt wasn’t fond of the plan.
“Please, Geralt, just one night of drinking and my wonderful music and then we’ll be on our merry way to be covered in selkie guts in the next town,” Jaskier had pleaded. The man had glowered for a good few minutes before grumbling, “Just as long I’m not wearing anything colorful. Or any doublets.”
“Ah, well, that isn’t quite up to me. You see, the duke’s sister expects everyone to be in their finest wear for the evening and we can’t have you walking in wearing your… very fashionable blood-splattered armor. She already sent your clothes that I requested to the inn.” Jaskier worried that it was the deal-breaker for the man, but to his surprise, other than an exasperated glare and a heavy sigh, the Witcher could not say no to the bard. After all, they are soulmates.
——
When they met in Posada, and Jaskier broke the silence with the most charming sentence a man can say: I love the way you just sit in the corner and brood, Geralt had barely flinched and, without missing a beat, told the bard he was drinking alone.
Obviously, a Witcher of Geralt’s caliber was taught not to react to strong, unbidden emotions. But Jaskier, on the other hand, wasn’t taught to suppress what he felt on a day-to-day basis, so it was only fair when the bard had almost lurched forward in shock, the gentle burn of his words—written in bold just above his left hipbone—sending a full-body tingle from his head to the tips of his fingers and toes.
Jaskier still vividly remembers the small smirk on Geralt’s lips after he saw the entirety of his reaction—when the bard’s world was turned on its head in a second.
Despite their shared soul-marks, Geralt never made the whole ordeal as romantic as ballads had painted it out to be. In fact, Geralt never made any sort of move at all. At the end of their adventure at the Edge of the World, Jaskier concluded that the Witcher just wasn’t attracted to him that way.
Sure, they have their chemistry; the easy back and forth between them; that familiar spark of a soul-bond, that pull of fate bringing them together when one needs it; and when Jaskier turns up the annoying theatrics, the Witcher never once pushes or sends him away.
(Other than that one time on the mountain—)
But even after years of knowing each other—possibly closer than anyone Jaskier knows—Geralt never once made a move. Jaskier has heard of soulmates who don’t fall in love; those who choose not to or just have unforeseen circumstances standing in their way. Jaskier doesn’t take it personally (—okay, maybe he did, a long time ago, but only for a while. The bitter anger was fleeting.) and he’s come to treasure what he has with the Witcher, no matter how far apart they are on the Continent.
Being with Geralt is like a warm scented bath after hours of walking, like a sip of cold apple juice in the sun, like a string of pretty words coming together perfectly in a new ballad. Being with Geralt is like coming home.
And it’s no doubt why Geralt humors the bard on his many, many ridiculous whims. The Witcher feels the same when Jaskier is around. It’s inevitable when one is your soulmate.
But sometimes, during the lonely nights away from his dear Witcher, Jaskier wonders if what he feels is a result of falling in love rather than the soul-bond binding them together.
It’s a thought he tries not to visit often.
——
“This, this, damn thing won’t fit properly,” Geralt curses, the frantic movement of his shadow behind the room divider giving a rather amusing view of Geralt getting trapped in the confines of his new outfit. Jaskier hardly tries to stifle his laugh, coming up to knock on the divider.
“There’s no shame in asking for help, you know.”
“Yes. There is,” Geralt grits out. This time, Jaskier’s lips split into a grin, a laugh bubbling in his throat. “Just say the word, Witcher, and I shall valiantly save your life from those cursed clothes.”
“Shut up, Jaskier,” he grumbles and Jaskier only hums. The bard walks back to the bed, ungracefully plopping down on the mattress. He grabs onto his lute resting at the foot, and plucks a few strings, making sure they are finely tuned for his performance.
“Geralt?” The Witcher hums.
“Do you think that the duke’s sister is unwed?” There’s a soft grunt and the stomp of a boot as Geralt yanks on his shoes.
“Even if she is, it’s not like that’s going to stop you,” Geralt says matter-of-factly.
Jaskier grins. “You know me so well.” His thumb smacks on the top string, a shallow twang sounding in the room.
“Try not to get killed tonight, Jaskier. I don’t want to spend my evening chasing away jealous lovers,” Geralt rumbles, his voice still as gruff even when behind a room divider. Jaskier wonders what’s the point of the wooden wall. It’s not like he hasn’t seen the Witcher naked. He has, in fact, many times. (Maybe it’s just a flimsy reason to ogle the poor man, but he digresses.)
Jaskier makes a face when he realizes what his friend just said. “I won't, what was it you said?, ‘hide my sausage in the wrong royal pantry’.”
Geralt chuckles, a low sound that makes the air in Jaskier’s lungs disappear. The bard rolls his eyes and mutters, “Of course you’d laugh at your own joke.”
His fingers find a soft rhythm to drum on the surface of his lute. “I’m not quite feeling up to a lustful rendezvous tonight. Even a bard of my skill would be quite tired after performing for a court like this one.”
Geralt peeks around the divider, looking at the bard with a cocked brow. “I’ve seen you play for a kingdom court twice this size. Two nights in a row.”
Jaskier opens then closes his mouth, glancing away.
“That’s a very good point, Geralt.” The Witcher snorts and goes back to his buttoning his doublet.
Jaskier shrugs despite not being in his view. “Maybe I’m just getting old, my dear Witcher.”
Geralt snorts once again. It’s a special case, their soul-bond. Jaskier is supposedly forty-one and yet he still looks as young as the day he met Geralt. It’s almost as if upon meeting the Witcher, his aging process stopped. A decade ago, he would have claimed it was up to his skincare, but over thirteen years has passed and it’s like he hasn’t aged a day.
Geralt had pointed it out a few years ago when Jaskier passed him a bottle of wine—a gift for his thirtieth-sixth from his colleagues at Oxenfurt. It was a startling realization for the both of them. Witcher and human bonds are rarely heard of, but there are bonds between other magical beings and humans that are documented; it was said that the human, Jaskier in this case, is found to be aging slower because of residual magic binding two souls together.
Bollocks, he had said. But time passed and he still hasn’t aged.
Quite convenient, Jaskier had joked once, guess you’ll have to endure me being by your side for many years to come.
Geralt didn’t say anything, only hummed and stared into the fire thoughtfully.
A heavy, tired sigh reaches Jaskier’s ears and he can’t help but smile.
“Come on out, Geralt. You can’t avoid the social interaction forever.”
“I’ll try my darned best to,” Geralt growls as he steps out from behind the divider.
The first thought that crosses his mind is that Geralt is… ridiculously uncomfortable.
The second, well…
Jaskier is glad he has his lute over his lap.
Those sleeves really do a terrible job at keeping Geralt’s arms in, the fabric stretching to accommodate his lines of muscle. For another, his chest is so wide Jaskier has the unshakeable want for the man to press his weight onto him. And Gods, those trousers, those legs
“Jaskier,” Geralt calls out. The bard blinks and—
Geralt is smiling, a small grin curving his lips.
Jaskier clears his throat and jumps to his feet. “Well, chop, chop. We can’t be late; we would be awful special guests, won’t we?”
He ignores the way his cheeks heat up, hoping he turned around fast enough to hide it from the Witcher. Knowing Geralt though, he could probably even feel the damn temperature change.
——
The court is raucous by the time they both grace the halls, with men already drunk off the rails and women fawning over the warriors busy with arm-wrestles. When Geralt sends him the side-eye, Jaskier can only grin and shrug.
“Let’s just hope they have enough ale for you to get through this night,” Jaskier says, slapping the Witcher’s shoulder with sympathy. Geralt grumbles, “I was thinking the same thing.”
“Dandelion!” a manly voice booms from across the room. Immediately, cheers from all over the room erupt, and Jaskier can’t help bowing to his already wonderful audience.
He looks over his shoulder to Geralt, his eyes twinkling under the chandeliers. “And I didn’t even have to play a song.”
The man only snorts, rolling his eyes. They walk up to the ducal table and surprisingly, every member wears only welcoming smiles for the both of them. A small weight is lifted off Jaskier, glad that his songs have travelled this far to spare Geralt a little bit of the prejudicial stress of being a monster hunter.
The duke claps for them, getting to his feet, “Welcome! It’s a pleasure to see you two here. This morning, I had that the invitation did not get to you. Fortunately, it seems you two are not eager to leave the duchy yet. I am pleased.”
His Grace is regal man, his ornately stitched doublet and crown telling everyone that he’s no doubt a man of royalty. “We’d like to thank you, Geralt of Rivia, the White Wolf, for ridding us of all those foul beasts—those pests. They’ve really been a pain in my arse—”
“Jarvis!” a well-dressed woman in green and golden robes by his side slaps his arm, but the duke only laughs. He leans down to press a kiss upon her temple. “I apologize, my lady. I did not mean to utter such profane things to our guests.”
“You better not,” the woman warns, but the loving warm grin on her face takes away the bite. Jaskier and the Witcher share a look. Soulmates.
Geralt bows his head respectfully, “I take no offense, Duchess. Besides, it’s all in a day’s work.”
She waves a hand. “Nonsense. You were invited as a guest and will be treated as such. It’s no matter if you wield two swords.”
Jaskier can’t help but pipe up, “Do I have to be a Witcher to be introduced to such a lovely lady?”
She faces Jaskier and the warmth and kindness emitting from her face grows tenfold. “Ah! Dandelion. You may refer to me as Duchess Emylya. My duke and I are nothing but big admirers of your work, especially of the tales with your—” she glances over with a smile to the silver-haired man by his side, “—Witcher.”
He chuckles. He’s not mine.
“I’m honored, Your Grace. It’s a pleasure to meet your acquaintance.”
“The pleasure is all mine, bard. If you wish, you may start your performance,” the duchess says, and the duke nods, clearly as excited as she is.
“We are all rather eager to hear your tales straight from the source. Quite tired of listening to your stories from minstrels who’ve not faintest idea of what they’re singing about.”
Jaskier laughs. In the corner of his eye, he can see Geralt resigning himself to his fate. A night of mingling.
“Well, I would like to make good on my promise and let me grace your ears with my performance,” Jaskier merely says before heading to the group of minstrels prepping their instruments, sliding a comforting hand on Geralt’s back as he passes by. He overhears the duke inviting the Witcher to sit at their table and he has to muffle his snort of laughter. Only Geralt can be invited to sit at the ducal table.
He takes his time to tune his lute, even though it’s been done several times before the party even began. He then slides the strap over his shoulders and plucks an experimental first note. The crowd quietens.
He grins wolfishly, pleased by the warm reception. He strums a chord, and another and soon, the whole room bursts with life. He steps into the middle of the court, commanding attention with his ever imposing presence.
“Oh fishmonger, oh fishmonger, come quell your daughter’s hunger…”
It is a classic, a song that even dates back before Ciri’s birth. He still remembers the Cintran court like it was yesterday.
His body thrums with vibrant energy, like sunlight bursting from his chest, glowing at the seams. It has been a while since he’s let himself go like this, singing his heart out as if he’s still young and free—like a bird in the sky. He feels limitless, like he can sing and pluck a tune forever and ever, the moment unending as he brings joy and elation to everyone around him.
Golden honey brings him down to earth, grounds him in dirt and cooling soot; he meets the Witcher’s eyes from across the rowdy hall and can hardly tamp the urge to flash a wink. Geralt only smirks and gives a fond roll of his eyes back. The familiar interaction is a soothing wave, washing over him with warmth that Jaskier knows so well, pulling him down under the sea. He never wants to leave the water.
—————
After a whole hour of prancing around, music flowing through the air, Jaskier finds himself parched, a little worn out from the constant movement.
He tells the group of minstrels to take a break, considering they are probably faring worse than he is, and drifts over to the table of juices and alcohol provided. He pours himself a tankard of ale, gulping it down excessively to stave off the thirst.
He wonders if Geralt is enjoying himself, especially when it seems like the duchess has roped him into a deep conversation.
A hand rests atop the table right next to him, and he turns to face the person. Green eyes, dark hair and a handsome face.
Jaskier stops breathing.
Valdo fucking Marx.
His hackles raise, back going straight as a rod as he leans back to glare into those beady green eyes. He resists the urge to spill the biting remark already on his tongue.
“Jaskier,” he purrs, that annoying glint already in his eye, like he knows every little thought that crosses Jaskier’s mind. Before, it used to thrill Jaskier—the danger, the risk of having someone so sly and cunning between his sheets. Now, though, it fills him with unbridled bitter anger, Valdo’s stare unleashing an uneasy crawling feeling under his skin—like little bugs festering.
“Valdo,” he says stiffly, taking a step back, but the man only chuckles and closes the space.
“My dear, I must say, your voice is still as beautiful as the day I—”
“Left me with my heart torn to pieces like the snake you are?” Jaskier bites out.
He supposes he wasn’t able to resist the urge for too long.
Valdo laughs, a grating sound that used to charm Jaskier silly. Sometimes, Jaskier just absolutely hates his heart for falling in love so easily; it can never quite differentiate the bad from the good.
“Jask—”
“Call me Dandelion,” he states, no room for argument, narrowing his eyes. He wishes he has the fear-instilling glare Geralt is well-known for.
Valdo grins, his white teeth flashing in the golden candlelight. “My, my, my, you’ve grown feisty, haven’t you?”
“Not feisty. I just demand the respect you never gave me then.” His tone is sharp, cold and not quite forgiving. He’d rather die from one of Geralt’s Witcher potions than let the man treat him the same way again.
Valdo ducks his head, “Of course, my flower.”
Jaskier’s glare flares. His hand itches to throw a punch. He hasn’t hit a person in a while, considering Geralt has been doing good in terms of keeping him in check—stopping him just short of a tavern brawl every time. He doubts he would miss though; anyone would see Valdo’s face as the perfect target difficult to ignore.
“You should know to stay out of my way, but you just can’t help yourself, can you?” Jaskier hisses, fingers tightening around his tankard.
His smirk looks awful against the golden embroidered red doublet. He has good fashion taste, Jaskier can give him that; the only original thing the fraud has. Knowing him though, Jaskier won’t be surprised if he copied someone’s style.
“You know me, my flower, just a hopeless romantic for nostalgia. How can I ignore a beautiful old friend like you?” Valdo says, fingers digging into a fruit bowl, popping a grape into his mouth.
“Old?” Jaskier scoffs. “Are those crows’ feet I see?”
Yes, in this moment of time, Jaskier is willing to borrow one of Yennefer’s insults (that has since then turned into a fond sarcastic comment every time they see each other). It’s quite embarrassing to know Valdo can drag him to stoop so low as to borrow insults.
It further irks the bard when Valdo only chuckles, amused in the same way Lambert would be when Jaskier falls on his ass during sparring.
“Let’s just say I age for the both of us, especially since you’ve aged so beautifully,” Valdo jokes, sounding wistful, but it’s impossible to tell if there is any actual sincerity to it. The bard resists the urge to spit in his face.
Jaskier rolls his eyes. “Well, it sure has been an awful time catching up. Let’s never do this again, yes?” Jaskier picks up a fresh roll and goes to walk past the two-time cheat.
A hand slaps around his bicep and grips. “Now, now, now, that’s not the way to treat a friend—”
“You’re not my friend,” he snaps, dropping the bread roll and wrenching Valdo’s hand off his arm. The man only grabs a fistful of the back of his doublet and yanks him back to the side of the table—the movement subtle and fast enough no one who isn’t looking at them will notice.
Jaskier is closer to him now, close enough to smell the hint of oranges, lemon, the slightly sweet-sour note making Jaskier’s face scrunch—such a familiar scent that always sends him back to those nights in Valdo’s room.
Geralt had wondered why Jaskier so willingly left him to do work alone when they had that one archespore contract at a lemon farm.
Valdo clicks his tongue, sighing softly as if dealing with a bothersome stray, “That wasn’t what you said when came crawling back to me after your Witcher left you in the dust.”
Jaskier’s face twitches. He hopes the wretched, hurt emotion flew past fast enough but based on the amused grin on Valdo’s face, it wasn’t.
Jaskier doesn’t need to think twice to know what he’s talking about. It feels like a lifetime ago when Geralt was dragged to a royal court just like this—Jaskier was so naïve then, having fallen so deeply for his soulmate—that somehow ended with Geralt saddled with the responsibility of a Child Surprise, leaving the bard behind at the party. Jaskier didn’t get to talk to him, he just upped and left wordlessly, surrounded by broken furniture and aghast members of the royal family.
Obviously, Jaskier was hurt. Back then, it had been nearly a decade since they first met; he had thought Geralt trusted him enough to share his personal burdens.
It was so easy to float on the familiar wave of abandonment he started to associate with broken hearts and—sadly, more often than not—Geralt. It also made it much easier to fall into the arms of another.
Valdo wasn’t at Cintra’s court, but he was there at that blasted tavern when Jaskier licking his wounds after the party.
“I’m quite surprised you’re still trailing after him like a lovesick puppy.” Valdo takes obvious pleasure in the way Jaskier’s face twists, flames of anger licking the edges of the bard’s vision. The ‘you’re pathetic’ goes unsaid, but Valdo might as well have said it with the way he mockingly traces a finger under the line of Jaskier’s jaw.
“Even after all this time. I’d have thought you’ve grown a spine by now,” Valdo tells him, voice just above a husky whisper, the words send his temper skyrocketing.
Valdo’s hand slides down his front, nails grazing his throat, a twisted show of his benign mask. Jaskier bares his teeth, trying to slap away the offending limb from his body.
In a blink, the man grips Jaskier’s wrist, fingers digging into his pulse.
“Stop fighting. You know you can’t resist me,” Valdo mutters with a coy smile, like they’re sharing some sort of sick secret. He steps closer, breaking the boundaries of even Jaskier’s personal space, pressing up against his front.
Jaskier’s eyes go wide and he drops his tankard of ale—a twang of fear ringing in his chest—when fingers edge under his doublet, Valdo’s intent very clear.

Depreciation- Chapter 9: Reader Insert
Chapter warnings: Intense or adult themes
Word count: 1715
-----
The trial date was not a pleasant one. The entire night before and the morning of, her stomach was turning violently, causing her to avoid eating any breakfast. She knew it wasn't good for her, but it couldn't be helped. If she threw up in court, she could be ejected, which is the last thing she needed. She called the real lawyer as soon as possible to make sure their connection was adequate.
This would be the hardest part for her. She needed to do everything he told her down to the tiniest details. WayV's lives hung in the balance. She hadn't been able to arrange a meeting with them before the events, so she would just have to hope they were prepared for the things to come. The last she'd heard, Henry had been revived, but he was still refusing to eat, only accepting a slight drink of water after basically being forced to ingest it. They had put him on an IV for a few hours, but he was still weak.
She only realized a few hours before the trial that she didn't have anything to wear. Going into her room, she noticed that most of the clothes Lucas had provided to her were jeans, sweatpants, and t-shirts. None of those were really quite appropriate for such a serious occasion. The women's wardrobe downstairs were sealed up, which left her with only one dress out and available for her to use... the blue one.
With a vile taste in her mouth, she pulled it on, looking at herself in the mirror as she recollected the last time she'd worn it. Thankfully, it had been cleaned since, but it still carried awful connotations. There was no choice, she had to suffer. Putting on sensible makeup and gathering her things, she made her way to the courtroom. When she arrived, there were only a few minutes left before the trial. This was her intention. While it may have paid off to be earlier, she knew she wouldn't be able to stomach it.
She was seated near the band at the front of the room, although she was meant to be active during the trial, so she didn't really have a chance to talk to them. She glanced over once, feeling all of their eyes sliding over her form, giving her the chance to see Kun mouth a slight, 'you'll be fine'. At least, that's what she saw. Before she knew it, opening statements were underway.
"Your honor," the lawyer from the discovery period stated boldly. She was already annoying Y/N, to the point where she had to clench her fists out of sight to keep from seeming stressed. "I intend to prove that these five men, as well as their late and hospitalized associates, are guilty of the charges against them. These include harassment, assault, battery, kidnapping, rape, murder, and human trafficking, as was read to them along with their rights upon their arrest." The judge nodded, accepting this as an adequate opening statement.
"You may call your first witness."
"We'd like to start by questioning Qian Kun." The questioning went on for what felt like an hour to Y/N. The prosecution methodically called up every remaining member of WayV, one by one running through the facts again and again. She was sure the jury had to be sick of hearing the same story by now, but it was evident she was looking for a loophole. The man in her bluetooth agreed as much. What she didn't expect, though, was the first witness after that.
"Next, I call Y/N (L/N) to the stand." Eyes widening, she heard the man in her ear whisper, objection.
       "Objection!"
"On what grounds?" The judge asked.
"The tribunal has proper objection when the trier of fact may be confused or misled by a lawyer serving as both advocate and witness. The opposing party has proper objection where the combination of roles may prejudice that party's rights in the litigation. A witness is required to testify on the basis of personal knowledge, while an advocate is expected to explain and comment on evidence given by others. It may not be clear whether a statement by an advocate-witness should be taken as proof or as an analysis of the proof."
Basically, what she was saying was that, by using her as a witness, the lawyer would be confusing the jury on which parts of her arguments were testimony, and which were legal advocacy. It was a valid argument, and she had already gained the permission to act as an advocate by the tribunal, (a fancy word for the court). Therefore, it was well within their rights to object.
"Objection sustained, for the time being." The judge agreed. "Let the record show that, should your testimony become integral to the case, the objection will be reevaluated." She nodded curtly in thanks.
Annoyed, but not giving up, the lawyer continued to go through witnesses. The next ones were women Y/N had never seen before in her life. There were a total of four, all of varying ages. She found it difficult to remember any of their names. As far as she picked up, the first two had been sold into slavery and escaped their masters, one had been supposedly attempted upon, but not caught, and the final claimed to have been raped by YangYang of all people.
"I would like to cross-examine the witnesses." Y/N stated as the trial continued. Speaking to the first girl, she kept her cool. She didn't have a choice in this moment but to follow every direction, take note of every answer and movement. She was starting to wish she had eaten. Still, now wasn't the time to think about this. There was a good- no, a near 100% chance at least one of these witnesses wouldn't hold up in court. She just had to figure out which one.
The first and second were the most difficult. With similar, yet vague stories about being picked up in seedy areas, thrown into a van, and suddenly being awoken under the direction of a new master, it was nearly impossible to confirm or deny their honesty. While they were under oath, words were easily brushed a side. Hell, WayV was doing it right now.
The fourth witness was where she started to get lucky. The man in her earbud told her to demand a medical examination in regards to the rape, and she almost immediately recanted her charges. This didn't look good for them, and the jury was swaying. The final, most pivotal testimony, though, was the third. This girl, around the age of 20 or so if she had to guess, had claimed to have almost been kidnapped at a WayV concert, but got away. Thankfully, she had someone on the outside able to pull her any details she wanted. This could be her ticket.
"Miss, can you tell me exactly what happened on the night in question?" Sniffling with a fair amount of dramatics, she pushed her faded green hair away from her face. She needed to get her roots redone, her makeup was a walking disaster, and her outfit screamed koreaboo. Not only that, but her little show was basically terrible.
"Yes... I went to go see WayV in Seoul because I am-" She paused, letting her eyelids flutter. "I was one of their biggest fans. At the end of the show, I went to go look around, because I wanted to experience it for as long as possible. I found the entrance to the back parking lot, and who did I find there but Xuxi himself!" The use of his name- especially one that wasn't his stage name- by this trash? It made her sick to her stomach. Still, she continued.
       "Go on?"
"He pushed me up against the stadium wall and asked me if I wanted to get on the tour bus with him. Of course I said yes, but when we got on, I noticed like, five other girls! Of course, he didn't like any of them as much as me, but it was super fishy, so I tried to leave. He grabbed me and told me that I couldn't go, so I jerked my arm away and ran for dear life!"
So much for being a great lawyer- the prosecution had really put this clown up here? As a serious witness? She became more confident as she saw the jury's faces fall and scrunch, evidently feeling the same way about this girls as she did. Now for the closer...
"Miss, I'll remind you that you're under oath. And in light of that, I'd like to put forth these facts: on the night in question, exactly twenty four minutes after the closing song, the entirety of WayV was escorted to the front foyer for a two-hour fansign, giving them a direct alibi for your timeframe backed by hundreds, if not thousands of witnesses." The judge's eyebrows raised as she waited for the witness' statement. When none came, the judge called the room's attention.
"Lying under oath is a federal crime that could be met with a probation, fine, or a prison sentence up to five years. You will be taken for further investigation, and your rights will be read to you." Y/N suppressed a smile as the girl was escorted through the main floor of the courtroom. She knew she should be professional, leave it at that, but she couldn't help it. Just before the girl exited through the side door, Y/N yelled,
"And keep Lucas's name out of your mouth!" With a slight murmur starting anew in the room, the judge slammed the gavel onto the desk.
"Order in my court! Miss Y/N, may I remind you that you are at risk of being held in contempt?"
"Yes, I apologize." She quickly muttered, already embarrassed by the action. As she said this, though, the other lawyer smirked, stepping up.
"Your honor, we'd like to speak to one more person, if that's alright."
"Of course, the trial may continue." Nodding the lady thanked her, spinning around to face the faces in the seats.
"The prosecution calls Wong Yuk-Hei to the stand."

Severus glared at Harry. He wondered, as he had from the very moment he had said yes, why on earth he had agreed to make the young man his assistant. Harry knew nothing about the law. In fact, as far as Severus could tell, Harry knew nothing about anything. Harry looked faintly pitiful, giving him a beseeching look with those enchanting emerald green eyes. Severus sighed. He knew why he had agreed, he just wouldn’t admit it. Sentimentality. It was the kind of thing that would ruin his reputation. Not that he had much of a reputation. He was desperately trying to build one. He was hoping to be known as a fearsome lawyer, scarily capable and talented beyond all imagination. He also hoped to be paid, as he was always very conscious of the amount of money in his bank account compared to the cost of his rent. He had already accepting that being able to afford to eat was asking too much of reality, and that therefore he would likely starve to death before he managed to get very far in his career.
He could see now that he wasn’t going to gain that fearsome reputation, just as clearly as he could see the smudge on Harry’s glasses. He wondered if he should inform Harry, genuinely concerned that he might not have noticed and would find it revolutionary to realise that the world was actually clearer than he was currently seeing.
The up side, Severus had to admit, was that he had a case. The down side was the case. When Harry had cheerfully promised to help find clients, Severus had not expected that Harry would be accused of murder. He sighed. Capitulation really was the best option. He already knew the extent of the evidence, which was damning. Harry had claimed to have found a potential client, though given his vague at best awareness of what Severus actually did Severus wasn’t convinced that the client would be any good. Harry had then been found by the police, covered in blood standing over the body of Sirius Black, the man that was supposed to be Severus’s potential client. Severus supposed that it was true, he did now have a client. He just wasn’t happy with his client being his annoying assistant. He didn’t want to think too hard about why he was so unhappy about it when he found Harry to be so irritating. That seemed like it was something emotional, and he didn’t have time for that.
Even had the evidence not been wholly against Harry, the mere fact that the prosecutor was Voldemort meant that Severus stood no chance. Voldemort wasn’t actually Voldemort’s real name, but those who knew it rarely dared speak it. Few even dared call him Voldemort. He was known as the Dark Lord of the Courts. Severus knew that he was destined to be just another lawyer chewed up and spat out by the unholy terror that was Voldemort. He wanted, more than anything, to just walk away. To wash his hands of the entire thing. But once again, sentimentality brought on by those damn green eyes made him stay. He sighed, accepted his fate. He couldn’t believe the young man in front of him was capable of murder.
He regretted it once he stood in court, of course. Harry grinned encouragingly from the defendant’s box, and Severus briefly considered what the outcome would be if he throttled his client before the opening statement. As it was, his opening statement was mostly a creative rewording of: “Please?”
Across from him was Voldemort, the man who formed the basis of the nightmares of most lawyers. He had never, as far as Severus was aware, lost a case. Mostly he reduced his opponents to a gibbering mess. Generally, the client was found guilty and the lawyer retired. The last person who had tried to defend someone against Voldemort had lost the case in 43 minutes and had consequently retired to become a goat farmer. Severus was already considering alternative careers.
“Between you and him,” Harry said, far too cheerfully for someone on trial for murder, “You’ve got one normal sized nose.”
Severus wondered once again why he was bothering to defend Harry. He reached a hand to his admittedly rather large nose, feeling offended. It was, as far as he was concerned, an entirely unnecessary comment for Harry to make. He was also somewhat disturbed by the fact that Harry seemed far more optimistic and relaxed than he was. He didn’t want Harry to be screaming in terror, as that would be both annoying and distracting, but some kind of concern over the fact that he was probably going to be spending the rest of his life behind bars would make Severus feel less like he was overreacting to the situation. Anyone would have thought it was Severus on trial, given their respective demeanours.
Harry was right, to an extent. No one had ever dared ask why it was that Voldemort appeared to have no nose. It could have been some awful accident, it could have been an unfortunate result of plastic surgery. He could have been born like that. The important thing was that he was terrifying. You did not ask terrifying men why they didn’t have noses. Severus briefly considered gagging Harry, as he had a dreadful suspicion that Harry was exactly the kind of person who would ask. As far as he could tell, Harry lacked any sense of self-preservation. He also lacked the killing instinct, which was why Severus was standing there, ready to protect him from Voldemort who he rather suspected did. Maybe he had traded his nose for it.
Luckily, Harry kept quiet. Dumbledore, an old man who was mostly beard, presided over them as the judge. Severus did feel a slight glimmer of relief at that. He was one of the few judges who could stand up to Voldemort, which gave Severus a slight chance. Once Voldemort had finished his opening statement, he returned to his original musings to whether or not he would make a good cancan dancer. He had the legs for it, and he would be far far away from Voldemort.
Resolutely ignoring Harry, Severus focused all of his energy on his opponent’s argument. Slowly but surely, he chipped away at the accusations. Harry had a perfectly good reason for being in Sirius’s office. If he was dim enough to be found standing over the body then he would be too dim to wipe his fingerprints from the murder weapon. Harry took offence at Severus’s belief in his dimness being used as a point of defence, but the court accepted it. There was blatantly no motive (unless Harry was really so desperate to provide Severus with a client that he was willing to commit murder so Severus could defend him, but Severus had always hoped to get innocent clients rather than insane ones who would do something like that). As Severus kept his cool and did his best, despite all the odds, he felt the strange sensation of Voldemort becoming more and more frustrated. Harry gazed at him like he was some kind of superhero, which made Severus briefly check that he had got the order of his trousers and pants the right way round. He had been very nervous when he got dressed that morning. Luckily, he was dressed appropriately and it was just that he was behaving heroically that was producing that reaction.
Slowly, he found that he was not just countering Voldemort’s accusations, but actively proving beyond a shadow of a doubt that Harry was genuinely innocent. Dumbledore looked impressed, though it was hard to tell with the sheer amount of beard. Severus could well have been imagining it. The tide really started to turn when he began to prod away at the issue of who, other than Harry, could have possibly been behind the murder. He hadn’t expected to manage to get that far. His best case scenario when he had started the case had been managing to somehow prove Harry’s innocence (sadly, telling everyone to just look at those green eyes was not sufficient proof and therefore not usable in a court of law). He had not expected that he would accidentally accuse Voldemort of orchestrating the entire plot, even if he had not struck the killing blow himself. But he had logically followed all the evidence, and once the false assumption that Harry was guilty was removed that was the only possible explanation.
After that, there was very little except for Dumbledore to pass the verdict of innocent. Severus nearly collapsed with relief, which was probably not very professional. Harry hissed at Voldemort, which was probably not a great demonstration of his sanity. Voldemort hissed back, which was just plain creepy, before being taken away for further questioning.
He really shouldn’t have been surprised when Harry made the seismic shift from living with him to living with him, a change that was significant even if there was little visible difference. Harry had, upon inviting himself to be Severus’s assistant, also informed him that he had no home and had thus taken to sleeping on Severus’s sofa in the small flat Severus tried his best to afford the rent of. When Harry moved from the sofa into Severus’s bed, Severus wondered why he was allowing it. But the answer was really those green eyes, which turned his heart to molten gold even if they were constantly hidden by ugly glasses. Just as he would chip away at the cases stacked up against his clients (which more often than not were Harry accused of murder yet again), Harry had chipped away at the barriers surrounding his heart. A slow progression, where Severus had never once stopped his irritation with some of Harry’s antics. Harry had just added behaviours like kissing him into his repertoire, and Severus found that he was never quite as irritated as he might act.
“I hope we can get an interesting client,” Harry said, stretching languidly. He said that most days, enjoying poking his nose into other people’s business where it most definitely didn’t belong. At least Severus had the excuse that he was literally a lawyer. Harry was just nosy.
After Voldemort’s indictment, Severus had had to defend Harry from accusations of murder a further seven times. Voldemort had plenty of supporters, who all seemed quite eager to frame Harry in all sorts of bizarre ways. Severus was oddly relieved that they weren’t actually trying to murder him, though also despairing of having to repeatedly defend his assistant-turned-lover in court. It was a stressful enough job as it was, even without that added dimension.
“I hope we can get a paying client,” Severus grumbled. Harry liked to take on pitiful cases, with sad people he felt sorry for. Severus often dreamed of an easy case with a rich client. The last case had involved him defending a family that Harry had taken a shine to. He had successfully proved the Weasleys completely innocent of all charges. The Weasleys had then proved to him that they were incredibly poor. Every morning, in lieu of payment, one of the Weasley children would come round with a tray of freshly baked muffins or biscuits. The advantage of this was that it had come at a time when Severus was trying to decide between paying the rent and buying food so that they could eat. A better solution would have been the Weasleys paying him, so he could have bought his own food, but it was at least better than starving to death.
Harry smiled, as if he saw something good hidden deep inside Severus. Severus tried to ignore him, knowing that he should get up and face the day. First, however, he leant forward and kissed Harry. That would help get the day off to a good start. He’d find a client, someone who would pay him and satisfy Harry’s desire for interesting cases. He was building a reputation as a dedicated lawyer, with people still in awe of him winning the  case against Voldemort that was now regarded as almost legendary. Some days it was alright to indulge the irritating assistant who had wormed his way so persistently into Severus’s life, making himself so much a part of it that he doubted he would remember what it was like to be without that constant, cheerful presence.

La Mante
French serial killer drama on Netflix (it’s a Netflix Original, so I assume it’s on all countries’ versions). Review - with spoilers - under the cut.
TL;DR - misgendering, transphobic bullshit, bad interpersonal relationships, but an interesting story underneath all of that if you can put with all of that AND half-assed subtitles. Also, lots of blood.
First off, let’s get the trigger warnings out of the way: gore, blood, violence, sexual violence, child sexual abuse, misgendering, and transphobia.
THAT’S RIGHT, TUMBLRFOLK! Our serial killer is a trans woman! And not in the “Buffalo Bill from Silence of the Lambs” kind of way. You can make some vague and lame excuses for him because the movie says he’s not actually trans, he just thinks he is because he hates his own identity.
No, no, no, our killer this time has been presenting as a girl since her childhood, for which her father brutally beat her. She was denied sex change surgery when she was older (for reasons that aren’t explained - her violent tendencies?), so she went to a quack who so badly botched her vaginoplasty that she nearly died from internal bleeding. And now, every time a man rejects her sexually because of her... “peculiarity,” as she calls it, she kills them. BUT WAIT! IT GETS WORSE!
Because the police - our good guys, for whom we are supposed to be rooting - consistently misgender her, either outright using male pronouns or alternating between she and he. Now, this being said, I am willing to believe that it’s bad subtitles. Because the subtitles? Ain’t that great here.
British spellings, but those aren’t errors, just something to keep in mind if you watch (”tyre” isn’t an error when it’s British!). Numerous typos (”her” instead of “here”), dropping of entire words, either in the translation (there should be a “has” here or that sort of thing) or just not bothering to translate (I’ve heard characters’ names said without that name showing up in the line, which isn’t that critical, all things considered, but given the rest of the subtitle problems, it’s annoying). Also, at one point well before the killer’s gender/sex/identity is established, the subtitles use the female pronoun for her. Just once! And then they swap back to male pronouns while we’re still trying to figure out who this dastardly killer is. I dunno, maybe it’s just whoever’s doing the subtitles that’s misgendering her?
At one point, the concept of “the origin of all evil” is brought up by our killer, and it’s pretty obvious (or it was to me, anyway), that she’s referring to her father and Jeanne’s father. No, wait, let me back up.
You see, the plot here is that we have this copycat killer running around imitating the crimes of the famous Mantis (La Mante), Jeanne Carrot or, as most people know her, Jeanne Deber. (Her real surname is not pronounced like the orange vegetable bunnies nom, but I can’t help reading it that way.) You see, she was willing to plead guilty to her murders if they changed her name for court and the press, in order to spare her young son, Damien, the notoriety of being a murderer’s son.
But she offers to help catch the killer so long as her son is leading the investigation because it’s been 25 years and he’s been telling everyone she died in a plane crash. Working this case digs up a lot of secrets and a lot of skeletons - some of them literal. Damien doesn’t want to have anything to do with this woman who killed 8 (or 9?) people. He doesn’t want to be related to her. He wants a normal life. (Though he picked the wrong job for that - working as an undercover cop for narcotics? How is that normal?)
Damien hates his mother. His mother hates her father. His mother’s copycat hated her father and hates any man who rejects her, etc. etc. Damien’s father turns out to have been a decent guy.
I can’t help feeling like the moral here is “Evil fathers turn their daughters into monsters, but the most monstrous mother can still raise a good son.” Which... is not true at all? It seems more like smokescreen feminism than anything else. “Look, our evil females are actually doing good in the world because the justice of MEN have let them down!” Um. They’re killing people.
Granted, Jeanne only killed men who abused their wives and/or children or raped women. But she still killed them, and took pleasure in it. She never, at any point, denies that she enjoyed it. She’s also very smart, very methodical, and she knows she belongs in prison for the rest of her life. Killing is just... one of the things she does with her time, like eating or sleeping. It’s just a reality of her life to her.
And, granted, both Jeanne and Camille’s fathers are evil sons of bitches. We can argue forever about whether they deserved their fates. But their crimes against their wives’ and daughters’ bodies - one way or another - warp their fragile, beautiful daughters into murderous psychopaths. Meanwhile, Damien has had violent fits of rage since his mother was arrested, for which he requires medication. He is actively afraid of becoming a father because he doesn’t want to pass on his “murderous” genes. Because, clearly, his violence comes from his evil mom, right? We never get any resolution on Damien’s own psychiatric problems, so it sort of seems pointless to bring them up in the first place?
I also don’t understand how Damien came around to loving his mother. Sure, she willingly risks her own life to save his pregnant wife, but he wanted to protect her and save her from Camille during that whole exchange. Meanwhile, in the previous 5 episodes, he downgrades from violent hate to paranoid distrust. That’s it. And then suddenly a serial killer says, “Hey, I’ll take your mom in exchange for your wife,” and he’s conflicted? REALLY? Why?
She’s a confessed and proud killer. She poisoned her guard and escaped. (Granted, she also told him what she poisoned him with so he could tell first responders when they arrived; she didn’t want the guard dead, she just wanted him out of her way.) She blatantly inserted herself into her son’s life against his wishes just to please herself. This investigation has rattled Damien’s entire world to its foundations, but suddenly, out of nowhere, he loves her again? There just doesn’t feel like enough time for that to have happened.
If you can set aside the transphobia and the interpersonal bullshit, it’s a good, solid crime drama. They throw a couple of really good red herrings at you in the beginning. I figured out who the killer was pretty quickly after those, but it was interesting to watch it unfold. Damien’s wife, Lucie, and, of course, Jeanne are the two more compelling characters in the show. Too bad we spend most of our time with Damien, who’d rather keep the secret of who his mother and bully his team into doing what he says than fess up and work the case properly. I spent the first half of the show saying, “JUST. TELL THEM. ALL OF THEM. Tell Lucie, tell Szofia, tell Achille, tell EVERY SINGLE PERSON WHO YOUR MOM IS FOR FUCK’S SAKE.”
Also, Szofia. I like Szofia. But she gets a LOT of shit from the show, and I don’t know why? She’s a female Damien, aside from the mommy issues. Oh wait, let me guess: only male characters can be driven and aggressive. Ugh. She’s pissed that she got passed over for team lead by someone outside of their precinct (Damien - because, again, she doesn’t know why he’s leading the investigation since no one will say “Hey we’re working with the original killer to help catch the copycat but she wants her son leading the team or else no dice”), she’s pissed that she’s constantly being lied to (again, by Damien, who won’t just ‘fess up), and she’s pissed when the first suspect suddenly seems to know everything about her personal life - including the existence of her son.
Everyone treats this like, “Yeah, we get it, but settle down, Szofia, jeeze,” and I’m sitting here like, “No, you clearly don’t get it because you wouldn’t be acting like that if you did. IT’S FUCKING CREEPY.” I think it’s supposed to be because they’re cops and they’re all tough? But Damien flips out on a regular basis (but we can blame murder mommy for that, right?).
Also, cops who touch EVERY GODDAMN THING. Do they not take fingerprints in France?
Anyway, it’s a compelling story, the acting’s good, but the way the characters are portrayed is just SHIT.
(Oh wait, I also forgot the part where Damien finds out his childhood best friend is literally his brother (well, half-brother) and even though they’ve been separated for 25 years and even though he thought the guy was the copycat killer and EVEN THOUGH he found out the guy has been SPYING ON HIS HOME, he shares one beer with him and then is just a sobbing wreck when the guy is killed. Damien’s emotions spin on a goddamn dime.)

4 Ways Esther Inspires Us to Step Out in Faith
"Before I made you in your mother's womb, I chose you”
(Jeremiah 1:5).
When choosing teams in school, children should never choose teams.
Why?
Inevitably, the least popular or most athletically challenged children would be left standing alone, on display, easy targets for derogatory labels and ridicule.
Choose teams on the basis of birthday month, favorite flavor of ice cream or color of clothing worn that day.
The result?
Every child is chosen.
We all long to be chosen, loved by someone who sees us as we really are. Someone who recognizes our worth.
Esther was an orphan,
an insignificant and unknown Jewish girl living with her uncle Mordecai when she was chosen to be Queen,
the wife of Persian King Ahasuerus.
Esther had reigned for only a short time when Mordecai learned of a plot to assassinate the King. Mordecai told Esther who told Ahasuerus and the guilty men were executed.
The king’s life was spared, but life for the Jewish people became extremely difficult.
Haman, a very influential but evil officer in the king’s court, was promoted to the second-highest position in the land. Haman hated the Jews and convinced the King to issue a law that all people had to bow to the King, or they would be executed. That law would mean certain death for not only Esther and Mordecai, but also for every Jew who bowed only to God.
And there was one other small problem.
The King did not know that his new queen was a Jew. As Esther and her people fasted for God’s direction, Esther planned what might have been the first reveal party for the king and Haman. During the banquet, Esther revealed Haman’s plot.
Esther also revealed the fact that she was a Jew. True love won the day. The King condemned Haman to die and saved the Jewish nation. In short, God raised Esther up to save her people!
Esther made a life-changing decision to step out in faith and obey God. Because she made the right choice, she discovered her true worth in God. If Esther can take those steps, so can we.
Step 1:
Understand That We Are Chosen
“And who knows, you may have been chosen queen for just such a time as this"
(Esther 4:14).
Esther was chosen--not just by a King, but by God. God placed Esther in a high position of leadership at a very special time and for a very special reason. The same is true in your life and in mine.
You are no accident!
Where you are is no surprise to God.
Situational ethics is now being taught in many schools. One teacher, wanting to illustrate that human reasoning is many times wrong, gave the following situation to a class of students:
"Would you advise a mother who was pregnant with her fifth child to have an abortion--given the following facts?
Her husband had syphilis.
She had tuberculosis.
Their first child was born blind.
Their second child died.
Their third child was born deaf.
Their fourth child had tuberculosis.
Most of the students agreed that she should have an abortion. The teacher was quiet for a moment before responding. “Those of you who said, ‘Yes' would have just killed the great composer Ludwig von Beethoven!"
You and I were created in response to the love of God.
“I praise you because you made me in an amazing and wonderful way. What you have done is wonderful. I know this very well. You saw my bones being formed as I took shape in my mother's body. When I was put together there, you saw my body as it was formed. All the days planned for me were written in your book before I was one day old”
(Psalm 139:14-16).
We were created in love…for love. The plan came first! God personally supervised our formation. We were created for a special purpose and with a unique plan for our lives. In other words, we were created by God for God!
“Know that the LORD is God. He made us, and we belong to him; we are his people, the sheep he tends” (Psalm 100:3).
In this verse “LORD” literally means “Father” or “dearest daddy.” We were not created to be His puppet. We were created for an intimate, loving relationship with God. He created us and chose us, and just as God had a special plan for Esther, He has a special plan for you.
“I know what I am planning for you," says the LORD. "I have good plans for you, not plans to hurt you. I will give you hope and a good future” (Jeremiah 29).
The best plan for every life rests solely in the hands of the One who created it.
In the early days of the automobile, a man's Model-T Ford stalled in the middle of the road. No matter what he tried, the car wouldn’t start. Finally, a chauffeured limousine pulled up behind him and a wiry, energetic man stepped from the back seat, offering his assistance.
After tinkering for a few moments, the stranger said, "Now try it!" The engine immediately came to life. The well-dressed man then identified himself as Henry Ford. "I designed and built these cars," he said, "So I know what to do when something goes wrong."
God is our creator. When our lives are broken, He can heal them. When the plan falls apart, He can fix it. We not only find our strength in that truth, but we also find the core message of our calling as well.
We are wanted, loved, and cherished by God. We belong to Him. We are chosen.
Step 2:
Accept the Challenge
“I will go to the king…” (Esther 4:16).
Esther certainly understood stress! When the King’s law to destroy the Jews was published, Mordecai and the rest of the Jews lost it. Mordecai told Esther that she needed to go to her husband and beg for mercy.
Esther initially refused, but with good reason. If she went to the king without being invited, she would be killed. Now that is a real test!
Like Esther, every time life delivers a cruel blow, we must make a choice. We can choose to accept the challenge, or we can refuse it and miss the opportunity it offers. Yes, I said “opportunity.”
If you are like me, when a trial comes, I tend to look for the nearest exit, hoping to avoid the pain and examination that every challenge affords. At the center of every challenge is an opportunity. Behind every problem is a purpose.
“And I will give you treasures hidden in the darkness--secret riches. I will do this so you may know that I am the LORD, the God of Israel, the one who calls you by name” (Isaiah 45:3, NLT).
Don’t miss this truth! God has gone before us, and in every problem, every darkness and trial, has buried a “treasure” and stored “secret riches.” The only way we can discover that treasure or uncover the secret riches is to face the challenge, walk through the darkness, and confront the trial, refusing to give up until the lesson is learned and the truth gained.
When golf balls were first manufactured, their covers were smooth. Golfers discovered that after repeated use, the covers grew rough, giving the ball greater power when it was hit. Life is much the same. It takes some “rough spots” to make us go our farthest.
Jesus did not come to eliminate our problems. He came to fill those problems with Himself. Someone once said: “When God permits His children to go through the furnace, He keeps his eye on the clock and His hand on the thermostat.
“So don't worry, because I am with you. Don't be afraid, because I am your God. I will make you strong and will help you; I will support you with my right hand that saves you” (Isaiah 41:10).
Queen Esther came to this truth when she accepted the biggest and, I am sure, the most frightening challenge of her life. She boldly stood for truth and against the enemy’s schemes. In doing so, she saved her people and won a place of honor.
What challenge is before you, my friend? Accept it, welcome it, embrace it--and just see what your God does through it!
Step 3:
Choose to Face Our Fear
“Then I will go to the king even though it is against the law, and if I die, I die" (Esther 4:16b).
The ability to walk through fear comes from trust in God alone. Esther was afraid and uncertain. She still chose to walk through her fear, ignore her own human weakness and limitations, and go to the king.
Fear is a control issue. Its opposite is trust.
Playing God is the root of fear. When we play God, we trust ourselves instead of Him. If you are struggling with fear, the question you must ask yourself is, “Who is God in my life?”
Step 4:
Step Out in Faith
"Go, gather together all the Jews…and fast for me. Do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my maids will fast as you do. When this is done, I will go to the king, even though it is against the law. And if I perish, I perish”
(Esther 4:16).
A teacher was doing her best to disprove the miracles of the Bible. "Take, for instance, the crossing of the Red Sea. We know this body of water was only six inches deep," she said. A little boy immediately shouted, “Praise God for that miracle!" Annoyed, the teacher asked, "What miracle?" The little boy explained, "The Lord must have drowned the whole Egyptian army in just six inches of water!"
Paul writes, “It was by faith that the people crossed the Red Sea as if it were dry land. But when the Egyptians tried it, they were drowned” (Hebrews 11:29). Fear puts our circumstance between God and us while faith puts God between our circumstance and us. God’s people crossed the Red Sea and Esther saved a nation--because of faith.
Esther rose from the ordinary to the extraordinary and proved herself worthy because she understood that God had chosen her, just as He has chosen you. Esther was willing to accept the challenge before her. You can, too. Just as Esther chose to face her fear, you can face yours. Esther stepped out in faith and today, God is calling us to do the same.

part 1, part 2, part 3, part 4, part 5 (you are here), part 6, part 7, part 8, part 9, based on @skygemspeaks‘s prompt
jesus christ it’s only been like 12 hours since the last one what am i doing with my life
Tetsurou has never exactly been one for rules, especially where Kenma is involved. That’s why he’s not surprised when, even though since he’s the captain it technically shouldn’t be happening, he finds himself with a favorite among the first years.
Lev is… a lot. He’s loud and all over the place on his best day, and he has a lot to learn about volleyball as well as tact (and yes, Tetsurou is aware of the irony of him thinking that thought, thanks). But he’s a lot smarter than the rest of the team gives him credit for.
One instance in particular proves this and cements him in as Tetsurou’s favorite.
It’s not as though Tetsurou isn’t used to dealing with Kenma-centered conflict on the team, especially after last year. He handles it as well as he’s able, explaining the situation to Nekomata and wheedling Kenma into presenting the note from his therapist that proves that no, he actually can’t force himself to practice sometimes without seriously messing himself up for hours if not days after the fact.
Nekomata doesn’t mind, he’s willing to leave it to Tetsurou and Kenma’s discretion since he knows that, “lazy” though Kenma may be, he doesn’t actually skip practice for the sake of skipping. The rest of their teammates aren’t always so understanding, at least at first. This seems to be the case with some of the first years, too.
Kenma isn’t at practice today; he hadn’t even come to school. When Tetsurou dropped by this morning to pick him up, it proved to be a red day, one of the more severe ones he’s had this year. Days like this, even Tetsurou isn’t welcome. He doesn’t take it personally anymore, just makes sure to check in throughout the day and drop by after school in case things change.
“I just don’t really think it’s fair to you spikers,” Shibayama says from across the gym. “Your setter randomly skips out on practice and no one is there to help you improve.”
It’s a reasonable enough concern, at least. They’re sweet kids, the first years. It’s not that they dislike Kenma the way the third years last year did; they just don’t really have a clue how someone like Kenma can be a starting player. Since they don’t know the whole story, Tetsurou can’t blame them.
“It’s a little annoying, but we need the practice with our recieves anyway so it doesn’t matter if our setter is a little lazy.” Inuoka laughs a bit, tossing a few volleyballs into the cart.
“If you say so.” Shibayama chuckles along with him (Inuoka has a fairly contagious laugh, to be fair), but Lev just blinks at his teammates in confusion.
“What do you mean, lazy? Kenma-san isn’t lazy at all!”
Shibayama and Inuoka look at him oddly, and Tetsurou stops what he’s doing to listen a little more intently. Lev never seemed like the sharpest kid, but maybe he hasn’t been giving credit where credit is due.
Inuoka is the first to respond. “How do you figure? He’s a nice guy, but he’s always on his phone or playing games. Sometimes he even leaves practice early for it.”
Lev cocks his head, presumably thinking, before turning to Tetsurou. “Captain! Doesn’t Kenma-san have anxiety?”
Tetsurou raises an eyebrow. “Yeah, why?”
He’d feel guilty for joining the conversation, but it’s not like Kenma’s anxiety is a secret. Besides, Lev figured it out first.
“Is that why he’s not here today?” There’s nothing behind the question but curiosity and concern.
“Yeah, it is.” Tetsurou is impressed, and the other two first years look like they’ve had a revelation, which is good. “That a problem?”
“Nope! Just wanted to know.” Lev smiles brightly and turns back to his friends. “See? He’s not lazy at all! He just has anxiety.”
The other two almost trip over themselves asking how Lev knew so much, since it’s fairly common knowledge that Kenma doesn’t really like him (not true, he just can’t always tolerate how loud Lev is).
“Oh, my dad has pretty bad anxiety too.” Lev throws the last few volleyballs into the crate before grabbing a broom. Then, suddenly, he spins around toward Tetsurou. “Captain! I have a question.”
Tetsurou looks up from his “on my way home” text to Kenma. “Yeah?”
“My uncle has to pick me up today, but he’s not on my contact list. Is that okay?”
“I mean… doesn’t he come pick you up most days anyway?” Tetsurou frowns in confusion.
Lev waves his hands quickly. “No, not that uncle! See, my dads are with Alisa at a competition in New York right now, and Uncle Yura had a last minute photoshoot so my Uncle Beka has to come get me but there was only room for three emergency contacts on the form so he’s not there and I don’t want that to be a problem since my dads are busy and can’t pick up the phone.”
Tetsurou blinks and takes a second to decipher the rambling, then belts out a laugh. “Yeah, that’s fine. It’s after hours anyway, so you don’t need to be signed out. That’s only during school, Lev.”
“Oh!” Lev looks surprised for a moment, then beams. “Thanks for telling me!”
“You’re hopeless, kid.” Tetsurou picks up another broom and gets off the bleachers. “Come on, back to work, you three. I’ll help out since I need to get going too.”
The three of them work in silence for a while, cleaning the floors and folding up the net. Then Shibayama pipes up. “Is your uncle a photographer, Lev?”
Lev laughs, and Tetsurou laughs with him. He’s seen Lev’s uncle, and there’s no way he’s the photographer.
“No, he’s a model. Uncle Yuri is too prickly to be a very good photographer. I think I have a magazine with one of his spreads in it if you want to see.” At his friends’ excited nods, he finishes his section of the floor and trots over to his backpack.
Tetsurou can’t blame the first years for their curiosity. For as talkative as Lev is, none of them know much about him besides that he came from private school and is adopted. The three of them finish the floor by the time Lev comes back, holding a rolled up magazine.
“It’s last month’s!” he says proudly, flipping through it until he finds the page he wants and yep, there’s his uncle. Tetsurou can recognize him from the many, many times he’s picked Lev up from practice.
“Lev,” Inuoka says with wide eyes, “Can you flip to the cover?”
The boy cocks his head in confusion, but does as he’s asked. The word VOGUE is printed in big, bold letters across the top. “Why, do you like that actress or something?”
Tetsurou laughs and pats Lev on the shoulder. “You’re so oblivious, it’s adorable.”
Shibayama and Inuoka gape at the cover with jaws dropped. Tetsurou isn’t really surprised, though; he’s seen this guy before in person, on a regular basis, and he’s definitely Vogue material. They excuse themselves to the locker rooms to change, looking star struck. Lev is about to follow when his name is called out.
“Lev.” That’s a new voice that Tetsurou’s never heard before. He turns and sees a small man, about Kenma’s height. “Aren’t you changed yet?”
Lev turns and absolutely beams at the man. “Sorry! I was helping clean up. Just a few minutes, Uncle Beka!”
He disappears into the changing rooms, leaving Tetsurou alone with his uncle. The man is dressed warmly, to keep out the springtime chill.
Tetsurou holds out his hand cheerfully. “It’s nice to meet you! I’m Kuroo Tetsurou, team captain.”
“Otabek Altin– er, Altin Otabek.” He shakes Tetsurou’s hand.
Ah, a foreigner, Tetsurou thinks. He’s not particularly surprised; Lev’s family seems to be made up entirely of foreigners.
“I want to thank you,” Otabek says suddenly. “For helping Lev. There’s only so much help he can get with volleyball in a family of figure skaters. And.. thank you for being kind to him. We worry about him, after his experience in middle school.”
Tetsurou blinks in shock, not really sure how to handle this. “Of course. He’s a sweet kid, and he has a lot of raw talent. His enthusiasm helps the team a lot, too.”
Was that good adulting? He’s fairly sure that was good adulting. But what does Otabek mean, “after his experience in middle school?” Luckily, Lev picks that moment to bound out of the locker room with his duffel bag.
“Uncle Beka, did you bring the things?”
Otabek nods. “Your dad sent them, they just came in today.”
He reaches into his pocket and hands Lev two small objects, only to be attacked with a sudden bear hug. “Thank you!”
He doesn’t seem to notice or care about his uncle’s awkwardness and Tetsurou has to remind himself to adult and that when adulting, laughing like an idiot is generally frowned upon.
Then Lev spins toward him and presses the objects into Tetsurou’s hands. “For Kenma-san! Since he can’t play his game during matches, I asked my dad last week to find something that might help him.”
Tetsurou blinks in shock and looks down at the two objects in his hands. “Fidget cubes?”
“Yeah!” Lev points at them. “See, there’s a joystick side and a side with buttons and there’s one for each hand so he can pretend he’s playing games when he’s not on the court or when he’s in class or something! I thought it might make him feel better when he can’t play his games for real.”
Lev figured out Kenma’s anxiety a while ago, Tetsurou realizes. He wouldn’t have been able to get these so quickly otherwise, especially since his parents are in America. He’s been planning this.
He thanks Lev and his uncle profusely before heading over to Kenma’s house. This time he’s allowed in, and Kenma clings to him, using Tetsurou to ground him. He’s said before that his therapist calls Tetsurou his “anchor,” and while he doesn’t really understand, Tetsurou is more than happy to be whatever Kenma needs him to be.
Which is why, when he sees the grateful, vulnerable look on his boyfriend’s face when Tetsurou gives him the present and explains its purpose, Lev cements his spot as Tetsurou’s favorite first year.

decided to go back and try to once again write a thing I titled Retail Hell
ANYWAYS
Main plot: Paparazzo has been after a huge story for months-that story is the idea that a wealthy supermodel/actor, who’s married to a wealthy supermodel/actress is secretly gay and she’s just a cover. So far he’s been really forgiving, but the most recent incident was the straw that broke the camel’s back and paparazzo finds himself in limbo while his case manager tells him needs to get on a new Karmic repayment plan because he’s been such a DICK lately. So now he needs to work retail with a literal demon banker as his manager and the whole incident with the actor has made paparazzo a source of his own paparazzi bc the actor/model felt so guilty about nearly killing the guy that he won’t leave HIM alone now.
On the actor’s part, there’s a whole other thing going on. He’s not the viewpoint protagonist, but I’m gonna say right now...he actually is gay, but he’s been heavily closeted for a long time. And then some random-ass paparazzo identifies every hint he thought he’d hidden away from the world and later in the story is supposed to confront him like “how did you KNOW I thought I hid it so WELL” “...b-because....I...am gay...?” “.....I thought you had a girlfriend” “I’m...bi. That’s a thing, you know that’s a thing, right?” “it IS?!”
Paparazzo’s guilt just grows all the time bc turns out this actor/model isn’t just handsome and wealthy and talented, he’s also super sweet and kind and generous and he was actively trying to ruin this guy’s life. Just because he turned out to actually be gay and he was right about it doesn’t make his actions okay. Suddenly being the subject of other paparazzi in addition to having to work retail under a literal demon is the least he deserves, he’s pretty sure of it. He is kinda annoyed to find guys he once drank with on the weekends in his hedges now, though. “Come on, Mike, you should know better” “you should trim your hedges”
I wrote down everyone’s names once and lost the page. Whoops. I did have fun writing out some sample dialogue, such as paparazzo talking to his case manager where “and don’t worry, until your debt is paid off in its entirety, you can’t die!” “.....is-...is that a thing you need? Is that a common problem?” “lemme put it this way, you’re the easiest case I’ve audited this decade” “....what if I die right after I pay off my Karmic debt?” “We’ll burn that bridge when we come to it.” “Don’t you mean-” “No. I don’t.”
The only notes I have left on the world building is that: -the city is in California, and is more or less divided into a bunch of neighborhoods for the wealthy and famous while the main character happens to live at the ‘lower’ income side of the city. The area the paparazzo lives in is primarily populated by the working class who work in the houses of the wealthy celebrities in the rich neighborhoods as well as the paparazzi and media workers.  -The protagonist paparazzo’s roommate has been his best friend since high school and even roomed with him in college. The roommate has a law degree, while protagonist has a journalism degree. At one point, protagonist paparazzo thought he’d be a hard-hitting journalist, making headlines and changing the world. Then he accidentally got a candid pic of a celebrity while trying to take a scenery pic for personal reasons and people offered to pay him a LOT of money for more pics like that.  -Protagonist’s girlfriend is one of those hot popular girls, and he’s equal parts terrified of and turned on by her. His roommate’s been telling him to break up with her for years because she enables his bad behavior. They enable each other’s bad habits.  -Protagonist’s new retail job is at a big box superstore called Carrimoore. (”We carry more at Carrimoore” ) This is actually my go-to fictional big box superstore and I use it in multiple stories. I need someone to basically work at Walmart but not use Walmart’s name or brand? Now they work at Carrimoore.  -The actor/model doesn’t come from a very good upbringing and his parents sucked, hence his belief he was ‘supposed’ to marry that actress bc she’s a woman and, well...she’s attractive, they get along well enough, and all their fans thought they were dating anyways. He tried to court her the way he thought he was supposed to, he proposed to her the way he thought he was supposed to...and then simultaneously never felt like he was doing anything other than hanging out with a costar he just happened to get along with kinda well. He could live with her easy enough. He wonders what’s up with that. Why isn’t he at all attracted to his super gorgeous wife when some of his fans keep sending letters explaining how they’d kill to have a wife even half as beautiful? Hmm... -Protagonist has a younger sister who’s still in high school. She’s disappointed in him, but also is jealous he now gets to talk to her idol on a regular basis. But also she’s disappointed in him for the actions took that brought him to that point. (”Remember to apologize and tell him you’re a piece of shit” “he already KNOWS that!” “and get me his autograph” “.....r u srs” ) -Roommate has had to bail protagonist out of holding approximately 16 times by the beginning of the story. He’s really tired of having to get up and bail out his friend and has taken to never bailing him out at night, opting instead to let him stew in holding overnight in a petty attempt to teach him a lesson. Maybe if he has to sit in jail overnight, he’ll pick up a new job that doesn’t get him arrested.  -Protagonist cannot die until he pays off his Karmic debt, and all injuries will heal at an extremely fast rate. This does not mean he cannot be injured, it just means that his recovery rate has been cut down to about 25% of the regular recovery time. But working in retail that shouldn’t be a problem....right????

1/2 hello! thanks for linking that other reply, i couldn’t seem to find it so i just thought that tumblr might not have sent my message. it’s good to hear that your mum apologised to you. being a forgiving person is not a bad thing, much better than never forgiving and holding grudges forever i think. sometimes you have to make tough choices, but i think that forgiveness is a good trait to have. it’s good to hear that that event had a nicer ending eventually.
No problem. It is defiantly a reasonable assumption that if you couldn’t find it to then assume tumblr would have swallowed it whole. This site isn’t exactly well known for being reliable.
And yeah i am glad mum apologized although i new she would on the basis she knows i would stick my ground and keep my word and not talk to her again if she didn’t. If i was even partially to blame i wouldn’t have been so tough in my threats of abandonment. But i new damn well that if i was to apologize just to please her then she would interpret that as me agreeing i played at least some part in the problem that arose. And as a result she would avoid acknowledging the accountability involved and gaining awareness of the person actually at fault being herself. Basically apologizing would be interpreted by her as an admission of guilt and knowing i am innocent i didn’t want to strike a plea deal and admit responsibility to resolve the issue quicker. As i was much more in favor of taking the case to court and proving not only my innocent but making the actual guilty party, in this case my mum admit her crimes. That was a very overdramatic metaphor but it makes the point i trying to say in that my mum did eventually drop all charges and admit i played no part in the events she was accusing me to have involvement in. And because she was finally the bigger person and did the right thing i forgave her. I just worry that my forgiveness will just backfire as is likely inevitable. As again using that same metaphor my mum is a frequent reoffender. And this wouldn’t be the first time this has happened and i have forgiven her and it likely won’t be the last. As she has a painfully annoying habit of not learning from her mistakes.
And its because of this i hate how forgiving i am. I wonder if maybe i wasn’t so forgiving perhaps situations like this wouldn’t keep happening as often. I don’t like the idea of holding grudges but i look at forgiveness on a spectrum and not simple as either forgiveness and grudge holding. And i’d like to be more towards the centre of that spectrum or at least feel able to move along it as i see fit. So that forgiveness is an option and one i choose most of the time but not one that i jump to by default. Because my blind hope in peoples ability to change results in me forgiving pretty much everyone that has wronged me. And whilst it is good for them it isn’t always for me. Especially when the person i am forgiving so quickly takes advantage of my forgiving personality and screws me over again knowing no punishment will come of it.
This time the forgiveness paid off and resulted in a reconciliation between me and my mum. But it won’t last long and she’ll be back to falsely accusing me and blaming me for shit i was not involved in in no time. Which is the unfortunate reality of the situation and my relationship with her. But at least i didn’t inherit this habit of hers that leads her to be a massive grudge holder even if based on no fact or reality. And instead became the polar opposite which whilst isn’t preferable as like i mentioned i’d like to have some ability to not jump straight to forgiveness especially when it isn’t warranted or deserved. It is far better then having an unwavering grudge holding default like she does.
But yeah enough complaining and hypothesizing. The day did end up being nice and the chocolate which i have since had was also really good so thats a plus. (Give me a couple of minutes as i type my reply to the part two of your message. Sorry about the delay, i promise i am getting there.) :))

tldr: i have a philosophy assignment to work with a partner to lead a discussion on Janet Halley’s  “The Move to Affirmative Consent”, a piece that i think is well argued and articulates a lot of things about the movement that i struggle with, as well as going into why radfem influences in this are dangerous and conservative, specifically in the legal context. my partner has opposing opinions to mine which i don’t want to deal with because they feel like they come from a place of emotionally charged kneejerk reaction rather than actually considering the argument. (i might be being harsh here, idk i’m tired and annoyed).
under readmore bc it got long enough i don’t want to make people scroll
in my philosophy class we got paired up at the beginning of the semester to do a seminar presentation, meaning each pair picked one of the readings to research and present on during the day we were discussing it in class. my partner picked Janet Halley’s “The Move to Affirmative Consent” and i didn’t really have a preference so that’s what we ended up with.
i like this piece a lot. the main argument is basically that the push for affirmative consent policies is coming from the radfem desire for social control through punishment by reducing the definition of consent to the subjective concept of “desire” or “unwantedness”, which is pretty much impossible to gauge in a court of law, and that parts of the definition given by the California laws specifically are heading dangerously close to the realm of “guilty until proven innocent.” Halley is a legal scholar, and as such is approaching this issue from a legal standpoint, questioning the desire to make the law the decider of what is consent especially when the definitions given can be interpreted in so many different ways and the concept of unwantedness alone is too subjective to be used as the sole basis for legal proceedings.*
i do get that this is a hot-button issue. parts of her argument really are her saying “these policies make it easier for men* to get convicted of crimes they didn’t commit” which is easy to misinterpret as “we need to protect poor innocent rapists whose lives will be ruined by these accusations”. but really what’s going on is she’s saying it’s not okay to set a legal precedent for putting the burden of persuasion on the defendant, and that the push for it is not out of genuine goodwill but comes from the radfem belief that because of the patriarchy if a woman ever has sex with a man it’s coerced by societal norms and therefore all men who have sex with women are evil rapists. (she does a much better job of arguing this than i am in summarizing it)
anyways. i skimmed this piece a month or two ago to get a sense for it leading up to the presentation and my initial response was “cool, this seems like good thoughts? would have to read more in-depth tho.” then i ignored it for a while. but tuesday is our presentation day, so we decided to meet up to work on it today. so i did a very close reading of it while waiting for my partner to tell me when she was free, and realized that i really do agree with most of what she’s arguing, and that she’s putting into words a lot of things i’ve struggled to express about my feelings towards consent***
so i came out of this thinking, “great! i can talk about this!” but we need to give a critical response, which includes both what we found compelling and what we disagree with (or why we don’t disagree with anything). so i started trying to come up with something to disagree with, but the problem was at that point any potential counterclaims i could come up with were too easy for me to rebut.
then my partner arrived 30 minutes late, and first off: clearly had not read the entire piece. which was annoying. but she had opinions about it. and she found opinions about it on reddit. and her opinions were very counter to mine.
basically, she was upset that Halley was criticizing affirmative consent because it’s such an important thing. we have to have a practical connection to some sort of event or something that we analyze through the lens of the piece, and her suggestion was “maybe we could find an example of a case where affirmative consent was necessary, to show she’s wrong about it”. at one point i brought up the bit about how since consent is defined so loosely and subjectively it often comes down to he-said-she-said, and it’s problematic to put the burden of persuasion on either party, and she said it was better to have the law set up to be manipulated against the accused rather than the victims because “women wouldn’t do that.” and the big one that really bugged me is she said something about “why is this even a conversation we need to be having” because obviously this isn’t relevant in the current social climate because the issue is too much sexual assault going unchecked (when actually that’s precisely why it’s a conversation that’s happening, she’s saying that affirmative consent as a response to that issue is problematic in its current implementation from a legal standpoint and we should maybe talk about that but yknow whatever)
and this is not a fight i want to get into. i don’t like confrontation and i especially don’t like confrontation where i’m on the side that doesn’t have the fun buzzwords that make people side with you regardless. and i have no idea how the rest of my class feels and my school is small enough that i don’t want to rock the boat too hard and it’s just. aaaaaaaaaaaaaa.
like i wish so hard that i had a partner who agreed with me because i would love to talk about this piece i have a lot of feelings about it. but i’m having to compromise my feelings about it with her opposite feelings about it and pretend to be much more neutral than i am which, also, is likely going to lead to the fun unintended side effect of me being more defensive of the piece than i should be. it’s not flawless. but i know that if i have to lead a discussion in which we pick apart all the terrible evil things she says about defendants have rights and how dare we not immediately believe an allegation of sexual assault immediately no questions asked in a court of law, i’m going to start getting a lot less willing to acknowledge those flaws.
* i’m not summarizing it super well but that’s the gist of it
** the piece is responding to the typical narrative of male perpetrator and female victim, so throughout the piece the genders of each party is indicated as such.
*** this is a whole nother post that i might have already talked about but basically the big thing is i’m super uncomfy with the definition of consent at my school specifically including the phrase “enthusiastic yes” because i am neutral towards a lot of things and have a complicated relationship with attracted and if my partner (sexual partner not project partner) wants to do something and i’m fine either way than if i agree unenthusiastically it’s still consent and to claim otherwise is to push me towards performing enthusiasm i don’t have and subsequently questioning whether or not i’m actually consenting bc it feels fake; anyways she doesn’t go into that specifically but it relates a lot to what she’s saying throughout

False County Court Claim Against Me on My Car Insurance?
Someone has put a claim in against me for damages, for an accident I know nothing about. It is from early 2010 and has been going on since then. I have been contesting it on the grounds I have not been involved in an incident, however the third party solicitors have issued County Court proceedings against me. My insurance company are saying they are putting in a defence and have provided a barrister. I am really annoyed with this as I know I haven't been in an accident. I could understand if maybe they were claiming I clipped them and I had done it without realising but they are claiming for an accident which I have no knowledge of! I have attended the Magistrate's Court hearing and although I pleaded not guilty I have been found guilty on the grounds that for the time and date of the accident I have no alibi, witness or other evidence to support my whereabouts. The other party has an independent witness who works for the same company and alleges she could recognise my car but not me as a driver. Mag court fined me and gave me 6 points on my licence. I am not working (and not in receipt of any benefits) and this CC claim amounts to 5k! How would I pay a sum like this??? Or would my insurance company pay out if I was found to be at fault ??? How much can I expect to pay for a dented car door?
Actually, an off-duty police office hit my 2000 Dodge Stratus with his 2002 GMC Sierra while turning into a parking spot. The scratch from the impact starts at the bottom left of my rear bumper, and continues on the bottom left side of my car before the door starts, and continues to halfway through to the other side. The paint isn't scratched too deeply, and could probably be fixed up without too much work. Do you think it's best to get your own life insurance?

USAA Auto insurance extra monthly bill?
Hi we've been with USAA for over 10 yrs now for our Auto/Recreation insurance company. This month on our bill i noticed our rates went up by 35+ dollars per month. I called and they said nothing has changed in our policy. They told us because the dates our policy renewed we have an extra bill in this cycle. So they had to charge us more so we wouldn't have to pay 2 bills in 1 month. I am so confused it seems like were making an extra payment for nothing. We Pay every month on time , so I'm not sure why we have to pay an extra payment to avoid a double billing. Only thing they could tell me is that it happens to alot of policyholders once or twice in the lifetime of the policy. Seems strange to me. Thanks for your responses!""

Accident Advice - Car without insurance?
My friend was driving her car on a busy highway, minding her own business. Suddenly a large SUV hits her rear quarter and pushes her off the road, down a hill, and into a ditch. Apparently, and there were about 10 witnesses to the situation, the driver who hit her was involved in some sort of road-rage war for about 5 miles, ending when she hit my friend's car. My friend is ok, but her insurance had expired on her car. The police didn't ask for her insurance that day. She learned a lesson and has since payed up online, so the insurance co doesn't know about the accident. Both of the drivers involved in the road rage were charged with reckless driving, and one of them even got arrested. Our question is this: she has $1400 in damage to her vehicle. She is willing to pay what she needs to pay to get her car out, just to avoid getting in trouble for driving without insurance. Are there any other options for her?""

After few weeks when I didnt hear I called the manager and he said his company will not cover anything and I can do whatever I can.... I called my insurance company and they are willingly to cover through my insurance - Collision, instead of comprehensive. The repair is $2000 + rental car for 9 days ~$2500. Getting Car Insurance for an American?
I'm trying to get car insurance for my wife who only recently passed her UK test. She has held a US license for many years (about 6 I think) and drove during that time with insurance and made no claims. alright. so today was pretty chill. I woke up to my alarm at 11:30, which I intentionally set 15 minutes earlier than I normally would’ve because it was going to be 80 degrees out and I knew I had to lug my giant suitcase in from our back porch area (it’s not really a porch) and dig through it until I could find a tank top and some shorts. luckily it didn’t take me very long to do so, so I just had some breakfast and chilled out for a bit. I opted to walk again because the bus options were like 12:09 and 12:38, which obviously neither work for me to arrive at 12:30. I loosely timed it today and it took about 15 minutes to walk there, so not bad (at least when you’re used to living in a city without a car and walking everywhere). PT session was good, I think I’m gonna have to tell the guy that the exercises he has me doing right now are too easy haha because he’s like “okay do 30 bridges’ when at the other place I’d moved up to doing single leg bridges with a 15 pound weight on my chest, so I could do 30 normal ones in my sleep lol. but other than that it was good, I like it there, it’s a bit smaller than the other place but everyone is very friendly and cordial, so that’s good. Got out of there are 2, walked home, had some lunch and tried to get some studying done. I did the remaining two secured transactions lecture videos from the bar website back to back, so I could get the rest of that info into my brain, then I downloaded an outline from outline depot, which I was slightly irritated about because none of the outlines I uploaded had been reviewed yet, meaning I didn’t get a credit for them, so I ended up having to shell out $20 for the outline (which, like I said last time, is really a fair price compared to other options, it’s just annoying when you know you could’ve gotten it for free). I can’t really blame them though, it’s finals time and I’m sure they have a ton of people like me trying to submit outlines last minute so they have a ton to go through. I had decided I wanted to make vanilla pudding and an apple crisp, the pudding to use the two egg yolks I had in my fridge that were left over from me making the meringues the other day, and for some reason I just wanted apple crisp. the pudding was simple enough, milk, sugar, cornstarch, egg yolks, vanilla and butter (and a few other minor things) and that all came together quite nicely. After that I went back to my computer and made a table of contents sheet for the outline so I don’t have to waste time flipping through it trying to find stuff during the test (or at least have to waste less time doing so). I had gotten a new ink cartridge from amazon, so I went ahead and stuck that in there, then printed the outline. I decided to print my notes too, just because it’s better to have more information, even if they’re pretty sparse because I didn’t quite pay attention for most of the class. So I printed all that a hole punched it so it’s ready to go in my binder. I then wanted to make the apple crisp. I had three granny smith apples in my fridge, so I found a recipe that could work with that. Peeled and sliced the apples, made the crumb topping (which turned out super good, not entirely sure why, but it was heavenly) made a flour/butter/brown sugar mixture to coat the apples in, then stick it all in the pan and put it in the oven. It was ready around 6:45, perfect timing for me to get some and go watch The Flash. apple crisp is obviously a solid dinner choice. As far as The Flash goes, well, it was definitely not my favorite episode, by a long shot. the whole council of Wells thing is a great example of just because you can doesn’t mean you should (which is what I tweeted while watching it), it’s just so overdone at this point and I really don’t want to see Tom Cavanagh playing any more ridiculous versions of the character. so that was not my favorite. I liked the stuff with Iris getting back to being a journalist FINALLY (we’ve only been asking for that for like, 2 seasons now), but I can’t say I was too into the whole Amunet Black storyline, I just didn’t really care about her, and the entire goal they were aiming towards was kind of nebulous and the stakes weren’t really there. Not sure what to make about the Caitlin/Killer Frost storyline at this point, I am very much against character attacks on both Iris and Caitlin, especially when it’s because of a ship, and I’ve seen some WA shippers attacking Caitlin for being selfish, and I feel like, at the very least, that is lacking in empathy. I very much ship WA and love them together, but I don’t harbor any ill will against Caitlin, a fictional character, who shouldn’t be demonized because some people ship her with Barry. But anyway. Not sure how I feel about that whole thing and where they’re going with that. When that was over I switched over to Rise, which was a very intriguing episode. First off, I have to say I kinda hope Lilette’s mom gets arrested for child neglect, because she is very much guilty of it at the moment. like, you can’t just walk out and leave your teenager alone for days, doing nothing to take care of them during that time, I don’t care what you’re going through or what happened between you, you’re a fucking adult and a parent, you don’t get to just storm off and leave your kid alone. So obviously that bothered me a bit, for reasons that I would think are pretty apparent at this part. The whole plot about cleaning up the show I found to be rather amusing, because to cut all the things they wanted to there would like, be nothing left in the show lol. All of it is so essential to the characters, and hearing them sing “YEAH YOU’RE HOSED ALRIGHT” was really fucking amusing, I was legit laughing at that. Being that next week is the season finale and the night of the show, it’s pretty obvious that they’re gonna end up saying fuck it and do the correct version of the show, though I’m sure that will have repercussions. The storyline about Maashous gave me a lot of feelings (again, for obvious reasons) and I hope they play that out in a way that is doing justice to the source material and the many real children who end up in these situations. When that was over I switched over to Amazon Prime Video and watched a few episodes of The Good Place before starting to get ready for bed. At some point during the day, I don’t remember when, I checked my email to find one from the tech company I had done the two phone interviews for, stating the classic “thank you for applying to this position, we’ve decided to go another way” rejection letter style. I was honestly somewhat relieved, because if I ended up there I was *very* concerned that if I got it I was going to end up hating the job and just being miserable. Of course though, that knocks out one of my Illinois prospects, leaving the only active one to be the DV clinic, which isn’t exactly a job prospect, but I’m really hoping if I just knock everyone’s socks off I can turn it into one. Whether I stay here or not is still going to end up turning on what happens with the NYC job, which I should be hearing from any time now, but it does make it somewhat harder to justify staying in Illinois on the basis of having more prospects and opportunities here when one of those is gone. At the same time though, job prospects in New York would also be quite limited, there really aren’t any active possibilities, the only somewhat active one would be interning at the county attorneys office (they do the job the ASA’s do here in child welfare court) unpaid until I get officially sworn in as an attorney in November/December, then *maybe* they’ll hire me, as they are currently stating they’re only looking for licensed attorneys for their positions. I’m kinda disappointed I didn’t hear back from any of the other jobs I sent all those applications to, mostly because I felt like a lot of them were very strong and would give me a good shot at the job, but I guess being straight out of law school is just not something they’re looking for right now. So yeah. that was a massive tangent. I still have mixed feelings about the NYC job, because I don’t want to leave Chicago, but I want that job, and there’s not (currently at least) any options for that job here, and who knows when OPG will lift their hiring freeze, it’s already been in place for over a year, so hedging my bets on that it’ll be lifted soon doesn’t seem like a good decision. Sigh. I keep praying about all of it and saying if you want me to go to New York then make this job happen and I will, if not don’t make it happen and I’ll stay here, so I’m hoping that job with be somewhat of a sign of what I should do. I am somewhat of the opinion that “God’s Plan” for our lives isn’t one set path, that we have free will to make decisions, and (as long as it’s a good decision) He will find a way to bless the path we take. That idea was first told to me by one of my theology professors in college, after I went to her with a very broken heart after certain events, and was broken up about what was meant to be and who I was meant to end up with. She said there was a book, I don't remember the exact name, but something along the lines of “Good news for the anxious Christian” basically communicating the idea that God will find a way to bless whatever positive decisions we make, and that really stuck with me. Sadly enough, the next semester, that professor happened to be one of “The 8″ that had been terminated by the school in the incident that led to the whole “Support the 8″ campaign where basically the entire undergrad study body was infuriated and the administration was very, very shook. So when they were collecting letters I wrote one supporting her along with the one I wrote for Derek (theatre professor that was the heart and soul of the undergrad program who they carelessly fired) and emailed her to let her know I had done so, she was out on maternity leave at the time (which of course makes it that much worse that they fired her). I just wanted her to know that the students were actively supporting her, and she responded very thankfully. That was all such an unfortunate incident...I’m really, really off a tangent now, and it’s past 1 am, so I think I will take my leave now. Goodnight dear friends. Be blessed.
