This Olympics a lot of us are going to be supporting Japan to take down Spain and by god I hope they do. For being a team plagued by federation issues, Spain sure do make it hard to root for them due to their sheer arrogance. Aitana is probably the only one who isn't so in that team.
I still remember J*nni he*moso shouting in the mixed interview area after the wwc match with Sweden while Kosse was there. Is that how a captain is supposed to behave? Contrast this with how Kosse consoled Tobin heath after the US lost.
yea they have really shot themselves in the foot for the nuteral

I'm thinking about a new USWNT fanfic but with them in the Harry Potter world. It's a mix of all of my favorite players (most of them are from the 2019 world cup). I've been working on a one-shot for them but i might make it into like a little story. Here's one of the ideas-
Title- But your empty eyes seem to pass me by (Leaving me dancing with myself)
Summary- With the Yule Ball coming up, 4th years and above were desperate to find dates. That included Emily Sonnett and Kelley O'Hara. So, why not strike up a bet? Be the first one to find a date to the ball. If you lose, you have to do whatever the other wants for a whole week. Of course, both of them had someone in mind.
But, asking out that person was harder than each of them thought, seeing as they weren't the only ones interested. Now it was a race against the clock to not only ask them before the dance, but also ask them before someone else gets to them first. What could go wrong?
Ships/friendships- Emily Sonnett & Kelley O'Hara, Emily Sonnett & Rose Lavelle, Kelley O' Hara & Tobin Heath, Kelley O'Hara/Alex Morgan, Emily Sonnett/Lindsey Horan, Tobin Heath/Christen Press, Ashlyn Harris/Ali Krieger, Sam Kerr/Kristie Mewis, Sue Bird/Megan Rapinoe
I guess the world cup got me back into my USWNT obsession lmao.

Speaking of teams that are having trouble scoring, Angel City was shut out for the third time in six matches and saw its scoreless streak grow to 200 consecutive minutes in Friday night’s 3-0 road loss to the Portland Thorns.
But there might be a simple answer to the team’s scoring woes: Tobin Heath.
The two-time World Cup and Olympic champion is in Southern California and out of contract after her season with Arsenal ended early because of a hamstring injury. Her 2021 season with Manchester City also ended early because of knee and ankle injuries.
But if Heath, 34, can get healthy, Angel City would do well to sign her because she could provide the offensive spark the team has been missing six games into a season in which it has scored just four times. Heath, who has been visible around Banc of California Stadium since returning from England, also could provide the key to unlocking Christen Press, her teammate with the Pali Blues, the U.S. women’s national team and Manchester United. Press has scored just once despite taking a team-high 16 shots, including seven on goal.
To get Heath, Angel City (3-3-0) first would have to outbid the OL Reign to obtain her NWSL rights from Racing Louisville, which traded away its claim to Press last August in exchange for Angel City’s first-round pick in the 2022 draft, $75,000 in allocation money and full roster protection in the expansion draft.
When Angel City first expressed an interest in Press, it was believed it would be a package deal, but team executives at the time said they were interested only in Press and gave her a three-year deal worth just less than $700,000, at the time the richest contract in NWSL history. Heath signed with Arsenal 11 days later.
Racing Louisville President James O’Connor said he has had “dialogue” with Heath’s agent about the player’s future. The Reign also have expressed interest.
“I think they’re trying to figure out what the next step is for them. I think they maybe have their own idea what they want to do,” said O’Connor, who added that when his team originally acquired the rights to Press and Heath, it partly was in the hopes they might be worth something in trade one day.
One rival NWSL club executive said a Heath-Press reunion in Los Angeles makes too much sense for it not to happen.
“Likely only going to one place,” the executive said of Heath.

I'll Always Come Back to You (Preath x Military!Reader)
Tumblr media
Anon request: Hey love, could you write a preath x reader. With military!reader coming home to them both.Just pure fluff😢
3 months, that is how long your mission was supposed to take. Now here you were 7 months later still in Afghanistan.
Your job was very important and you were very proud of the work you did but it did have its downsides, the biggest one, being away from your girlfriends.
“How is it going? I mean I know you can’t tell us why but” Christen begins to mumble.
“Everything is going according to plan, I should be hope by the end of the month” You tell her.
“Really! That soon” You cannot help but smile at Christen’s smile, it was infectious.
But it was the sight of your other girlfriend that now had your attention.
“What’s the matter Tobs?” You ask as she clearly wasn’t as excited as Christen.
“Nothing” Tobin lies.
“Well I have just told you that I am coming home and you face looks like a brick wall”
“It’s just that…well…we have had this conversation before and I got excited the first and the second time even the third but now” Tobin doesn’t look at you instead she plays with her hands.
“Baby, look at me” you wait until she does so.
“I know it can be hard but I have a job to do which is bigger than me. It requires be to be away from you, both of you. I miss you both so much and I am doing everything in power to come home to you as soon as I can”
You look up just in time to see tears falling down Tobin’s face.
“We know it’s hard Y/N which just miss you is all” Christen tells you.
“So how is camp? We watched your came against Sweden, there’s nothing quite like watching my girls tear up the field” you say trying to change the subject.
“It’s going good, we finally nailed that set piece I was talking to you about the other day” Tobin says.
She goes on to describe the play in detail and you smile at her passion. You could listen to her talk about soccer all day.
“What?” She asks as she catches you staring.
“Nothing, I just love to see you smile” Tobin blushes at your compliment. You loved that you still had this power over her even it is from the other side of the world.
“Oh Y/N, I tried that yoga routine you recommended. I was so sore the next day I could hardly walk” Christen rolls her eyes at your smirk and Tobin’s giggle which she managed to cover with a cough.
“Don’t say it” She tells you.
“Sounds like I never left” You say smugly.
“Chris you practically set her up with that one” Tobin says playfully.
“Y/L/N time for briefing” Your hear someone say.
“Duty calls” you tell them “I love you both so much”
“I love you” Christen says.
“I love you” Tobin says.
“Please stay safe” They both say in unison.
You blow a kisses at the camera before ending the video call.
After the brief your sergeant asks you to stay back.
“I know you have been on base a little longer than expected and we appreciate the work you have been doing so we are releasing you from Duty. I have organised a flight for you, if you go pack now you might make it back for you girls’ game” He tells you.
You were finally able to go home and you will be able to surprise Christen and Tobin since they thought you would be back at the end of the month.
Your bags were packed and your were on the plane. In order to keep the homecoming a secret you would have to cancel a FaceTime with your girlfriends but it would be worth it in the end.
You send them both a text saying that you will be going dark for next 24 hours due to the mission to had.
20 hours later, you land in Houston. You look at your watch to see that that have an hour before kick off so you make your way to the game.
Meanwhile at the stadium Christen and Tobin are freaking out as they saw on the news that there was an explosion near the base you were staying in and they couldn’t get in touch you.
“I’m sure she is fine. You said that she was on mission so that means that she wasn’t on base” Alex says trying to calm them down.
“Something is wrong, I can feel it. Last time I felt like this Y/N had been shot” Christen said.
“Christen!” Tobin shouts “you can’t just say something like that”
Christen goes to Tobin and gives her a hug, whispering something in her ear that the rest of the team can’t hear.
“Right, listen up” Vlatko enters the locker room “Christen, Tobin I have seen the news and i want you both to know that you are excused from today’s game”
“I want to play” Christen says.
“Me too” Tobin agrees with her girlfriend.
Before going onto the pitch there is another news report saying that there were no casualties at the bombing so that put’s them at ease but your dark 24 hours were over and they still couldn’t get in touch with you.
You arrive at the game just as the referee blows the whistle and you cheer loudly as you see that both Christen and Tobin are starting.
The game is over before you know it. It was finally time be reunited with the loves of the life.
The players begin their walk around the stadium thanking the crowd, luckily Tobin and Christen are at the back which gives to the chance to get the attention of one of the other players.
It is Ash that sees you first and goes to one of the security guards letting you know that you are family and need to come to the locker room. He escorts you through the stadium, down the several corridors and then you see it. ‘Home Team Locker Room’.
The team had won so most of them were celebrating but not your girlfriends, they were checking their phones and you knew they were waiting for a text from you.
You stood in the doorway watching them for a moment. They were your everything and seeing them in person floods you with all kind of emotions. You don’t realise your crying until Alex passes you a tissue. Turns out everyone had noticed your presence, everyone but the two people you wanted to see you.
“They’re all yours” Ash tells you patting you on the back.
You hear Christen telling Tobin to try calling you one more time and you see your opportunity. You get your phone out of your pocket and turn it on.
Your phones goes off seconds later and your answer it.
“Y/N! You finally answered, please tell me you are ok?” Christen says and you smile at her concern.
“How about you turn around to see for yourself” You tell her.
Christen runs to you, jumps into your arms and you catch her spinning her around.
“I can’t believe you’re here” She says as she places a kiss on your lips.
“She’s really missed you, it has been harder on her this time” Christen tells you signalling to Tobin who is still in her locker staring at you in disbelief.
You place christen on the ground, taking her hand in your as you go to Tobin.
“Am I dreaming because I have had this dream before, you come home then I wake up and your gone again” She tells you.
“I’m here baby” you say.
She stands and kisses you, this one more passionate than the one you shared with Christen which surprises you. Normally Tobin shied away from PDA but not today.
“I really missed that” you say pulling away.
“I have missed you so much Y/N” She says with tears in her eyes.
The rest of the team stand in shock, they have never seen Tobin this vulnerable.
“I hate to break up this reunion but it’s time to go back to hotel” Becky tells you and you, Tobin and Christen frown. “Oh no, I don’t mean it like that. Y/N can obviously come with us”
The ride back to the hotel took too long for your liking. You just wanted to get back so that you could have some alone time with your girlfriends.
As soon as you arrived the three of you politely declined team meal which everyone full understood.
You got to the hotel room and quickly got a shower to freshen up whilst Christen and Tobin got changed. When you came out your were wearing some shorts and a sports bra.
“Those pictures you sent really didn’t do you justice” You blushed at Christen’s statement remembering sending those photos to her.
You lay on the bed between Tobin and Christen and Tobin begins scanning your body and you knew exactly what she was doing.
“This one is new” she says pointing to a scar on your leg then placing a kiss on it.
“So is this one” christen says and she copies what Tobin did.
You had several new scars, none no bigger than a quarter but your girlfriends were very observant.
“We’re not playing this game, despite how much I love where it is leading”
Tobin hold her hands up in defence.
“We just worry” Christen tells you.
“I know you do”
You kiss her forehead and then kiss Tobin’s.
“Is that a new hoodie?” You ask Tobin.
“It is” she replies.
You look at her giving her your best puppy dog eyes. You loved Tobin’s clothes and often stole them.
You watch her take her hoodie off and give it to you.
“It’s smells just like you” you say as you put it on “thank you” you kiss her cheek.
You lay between your girlfriends as you all watch a film. These are the moments you missed, when it was just the three of you.
“We’re really happy you’re home” christen tells you.
“I’ll always come back you”

How is your Gender oneshot going? I'm really looking forward to reading it
Pretty good actually. I changed course a couple times but have settled on making it a one shot that i can make into a series if people are interested. This first story will have a global overview of issues and basically her life, from early childhood to now. If people are interested i will write more detailed fics about certain time periods or moments.
I’m almost done, will probably upload today.
Note: before people jump on me for the pronouns i have already used, i will explain why it’s she/her and not something other than that. Please trust me to know what i’m talking about, i wouldn’t be writing it if i didn’t.

so’hara “ignore me. i didn’t see anything”
Emily’s smile lights up her entire face when she sees Kelley round the corner of the training center hallway. “Finally!” Emily threw her hands in the air in mock exasperation. “I thought you’d never get here!”
“I needed to make sure no one was suspicious or followed me!” Kelley explains and wastes no time as she leans in to give Emily a hungry kiss.
Emily smirks, “I guess that does make up for it.”
“Yeah?” Kelley presses her lips to Emily’s and slowly pushes her back against the wall. She was certain every nerve in her body was on fire just from simply kissing Emily. Both women were so lost in their kiss that they miss the footsteps down the hall that lead to their location.
“Ignore me, I didn’t see anything.” Christen blushes slightly and smiles. She takes a few steps back towards the corner of the hallway.
Emily was still pressed against the way by Kelley’s body with one of her hands on the wall next to Emily’s face.
“What didn’t you see?” A voice asks from around the corner.
“Nothing, don’t worry about it.” Christen starts to walk back around the corner as she tries to push the other person back down the hall.
“What? You’re being weird.” The voice asks and the noise of a scuffle breaks out. “Let go of me, you beautiful women!”
At this point, Kelley and Emily would have pulled apart. But their brains were still trying to recover from the steamy kiss. So instead, they remain in their compromising position.
Suddenly, Tobin rounded the corner pulling against Christen, who’s hand were wrapped around her waist, trying to pull her back. “Ah!”
Emily and Kelley flinch, the startling noise finally kicks their brains into gear as they pull apart.
“Ah!” Tobin yells again. Christen tried to unsuccessfully cover Tobin’s mouth with her hand. “I see it! How do you not see it?!”
“Ugh, Tobs. I clearly saw them but the deer in the headlights look gave me an indication that it was something I wasn’t supposed to see.” Christen gave up her attempts at restraining her girlfriend.
“It’s not what it looks like.” Emily blurts.
Three heads turn to her. Kelley tilts her head to the side and purses her lips to try and hide a smile. “It isn’t?”
“I mean. It is!” Emily’s lock eye with Kelley’s as she resists the temptation to pull her back in.
Tobin’s laughter breaks their intense eye contact. “Well damn, I feel a little violated by just watching the look you guys just gave each other.” A mischievous smile crosses her face and she turns to Christen. “I told you! Ah-ha! I called it! Didn’t I tell you how much Sonny was talking about Kelley back in Portland? It was always, ‘Kelley taught me this…’ or ‘Kel did not deserve that foul, the ref is soft!’ or when she thought I didn’t see her staring at the one Instagram post of Kelley in that dress!”
“Yes, I’m dating the world's best detective.” Christen deadpans before she mouths ‘sorry’ to the blushing pair. “Did you still want me to show you that thing I was telling you about?” Christen whispers to Tobin. Tobin’s eyes grew wide and nodded her head energetically.
They two start to walk away as Tobin yells, “Bye, guys! We didn’t see anything! Although I expect details later!”
Kelley and Emily start to laugh after their footsteps became faint. “Well, I guess the cats out of the bag now. Tobin’s going to tell everyone about us.” Emily shrugs.
“Eh, I wouldn’t say that. I think Press will keep her quiet. But speaking of Tobin telling people things…which Instagram pic was it?” Kelley winks and raises her eyebrows.
“Oh, shut up,” Emily says and pulls Kelley back in for a searing kiss.

Through Pain Lies Beauty
They say beauty is pain. But what does that mean. It works when you think of love. Love can be so beautiful, but more often than not, it's painful. Beauty is pain; pain is beauty. Love is beautiful; love is painful. Why work so hard for something that is painful? …because it can be beautiful. But beauty can come from pain. When a phoenix dies, a new one is born from its ashes. When a tree dies, eventually new plants grow from the nutrient rich soil. Life comes from death. Beauty comes from pain. Old relationships have to die in order for new, better, healthier relationships to form. Old love dies, and it's painful, but it’s only to make room for something more beautiful.
Tobin was meandering, trying to get away from all the thoughts running around her head. The only thing on her mind, holding Tobin hostage, was her recent break up. She had been with Alex Morgan for two years. And if you ask Tobin, she would tell you they were the best two years of her life. What she wouldn't tell you, though, are all the red flags she had been ignoring for the past six months. However, if you asked her friends and family, they could point out every last red flag in painstaking detail.
Like they say, love can be beautiful. It can be so beautiful that you look past it when your girlfriend doesn't like your friends, and your friends definitely don't like your girlfriend. I mean, there was that one time when Alex never showed up to Tobin's birthday dinner, and Tobin cried, cried, and cried in the bathroom for a majority of the night. But Alex forgot, and you can't be mad at someone for forgetting something; you don't forget on purpose. Plus, birthdays aren’t that special anyways.
You also look past it when your mother, for some odd reason, just had a bad vibe about "this one." Tobin's mom would never trust Alex, not after that time when they got into a heated fight.
"Alex, I just think you need to distance yourself from your family from time to time for your own good."
"Your family has just as many issues as mine Tobin; don't pretend like your life is perfect."
"Yeah, my life isn't perfect, but just because your mom left, and your dad is a drunk doesn't mean you can drag me down with you!"
*Slap*
Alex didn't mean it though. She apologized immediately afterwards. She told Tobin she loved her for the first time that night. Tobin had been waiting a long time for that. Tobin tried to cover the bruise with makeup (the little she had), but when her mom came down that weekend, they both knew soccer balls didn’t do that. Plus, Tobin should have never said any of that in the first place.
You might also tell yourself that these people in your life simply just don't "get it" because clearly you are the very first person on this earth to find a love so deep and so passionate that no one else could understand. Yeah, "beautiful love" can do that to you.
Tobin had definitely fallen into that trap. Alex and Tobin's friends could fake being cordial for about an hour or so before emotions would run high and names would start spewing out. However, Tobin always thought she was just attracted to strong, sometimes abrasive, personalities. They were all playfully fighting to be the line leader in Tobin's life. Tobin had a way of doing that, spinning a situation into the fluffiest, softest version of itself. Love, foggy love. Although, Tobin did struggle a little more with her mother's opinion of the love of her life, even before the “soccer ball to the face” incident.
When Tobin first brought Alex home for the annual family fourth of July cookout, Tobin was ecstatic to get her mother alone in the kitchen to hear her thoughts on Alex. She could only assume all the amazing things her mother would say about the diamond in the rough Tobin had found. However, to Tobin's surprise, her mother's thoughts were slightly less than enthusiastic.
"So…what did you think?" Tobin stated in somewhat of a whisper as she sauntered into the kitchen to help her mother clean up from the festivities.
"What did I think of what?" her mother questioned back clearly paying more attention to the dishes she was drying than to Tobin.
"Of Alex, obviously" Tobin said in carefree voice while jumping up onto the counter to sit.
"Oh…she seems nice" her mother said.
Tobin was caught off guard "Just nice!?"
"Yes, she seems nice."
"What about how gorgeous she is, or how funny, smart and energetic she is?"
"I mean all that matters is that you think that" her mother stated back with a slight lilt to her voice.
"You don't like her…" Tobin accused.
"It's not that I don't like her…I just don't necessarily like her for you" her mother said through gritted teeth. She was clearly trying to spare her daughters feelings, but was also trying to get her motherly point across.
"Why don't you like her? What's not to like?"
"Honey, I think she's nice. It's fine."
Tobin stormed out. Tobin's mother hadn’t loved every girl that she brought home, she just didn't understand. What Tobin had with Alex was special and different. It would be fine. Her mother would come around. Her mother never came around. Love, delusional love.
All of these, anomalies, or at least that's what Tobin thought at the time, were playing around in her head. The walk around campus was meant to clear her mind, but instead it seemed like her whole relationship with Alex was on replay. Unfortunately, it wasn't the beautiful moments.
All these thoughts were reeling around her head as Tobin pranced around distracted. There was so much coming to light. All that Tobin had missed during those two years was coming to fruition. She turned the corner, not paying attention. All of a sudden, she was knocked on the ground trying to pull herself out of her foggy mind and return to reality. Then, there was a hand in her face helping her up. Tobin looked up to see a girl with a wickedly stunning smile and long, dark, curly hair. She had to catch her breath. "I'm sorry I knocked you over," the girl blurted out. Tobin took her hand and stood up, still a little star struck. "No, no. it's my fault." Tobin said blushing and rubbing the back of her neck "I'm kinda in my head a little." The other girl flashed that brilliant smile back at Tobin "I sorta know what that's like…" she stuck out her hand "hi, I'm Christen Press."

Beyond the Pitch- a Preath AU
They were the last ones in the bar. Their teams said their goodbyes hours ago and she still didn’t want to leave; it wasn’t the first time this has happened either. Instigated by her smile, she waged a war with her gut through the night. She should have left with her team. But debuting after 6 months out on injury just yesterday, Tobin wanted to celebrate. Despite it being a short time on the pitch, she thanked God to be back in it. With camps ceasing until mid-October, they will all scramble to their respective cities to fight for the championship. She didn’t plan on staying out this late but she missed this feeling. She missed her.
Being on the U.S. national team as teammates and competitive ‘enemies’ in club, grapples her insides unrecognizable. It’s always easy to be around her but she hasn’t heard her laugh for the better part of the year. She forgot how much she liked to be the cause of it. They always held each other to the highest competitive level and come next weekend, they face off in the semifinals.
The lights above them brighten to a blinding hue, a signal to get the fuck out, no doubt. They both politely wave to the bartenders as they leave. Slightly annoyed they look up from cleaning to wave back, “bye lovebirds!” Tobin blushes and feels a little guilty they shut the place down but ultimately she doesn’t care. It was a great win yesterday; she’s still riding the high from being on the pitch, playing for her country.
Tangled in each other, laughing, they turn toward the hotel a few blocks away. She loves hanging out with Christen just the two of them. It’s thrilling to be around her, all her senses come alive and she thirsts for it.
“So why have you been avoiding me?” Tobin asks in her momentary braveness.
Christen’s laugh fades into the alley behind them, “What?” she slows to a stop. Tobin’s arm drops off her shoulders as her momentum brings her paces ahead.
The only security Tobin feels is coming from the street lamp above them. Vulnerability never fails to besiege her when around Christen. She turns to face her, all tan and tone, unsure of everything. She answers her own question: maybe it’s because she was distant during her recovery, or she doesn’t enjoy being around her anymore—she doesn’t know.  All she knows is that something doesn’t feel right. They only saw each other for a few days at the same clinic in LA when Christen had therapy on her ankles. Tobin thought it was nice but she can’t deny that she avoided her after that. Anything associated with football brought her closer to heartbreak because she couldn’t play the game. So she cut off most of whom she knew and found new meaning in her days. But at camp, she was willing to welcome it all back.
“What do you mean?” Christen awkwardly questions, pulling her sweater to cover her exposed shoulders looking everywhere except at Tobin.
“Come on Chris…” Tobin knows she understands the question. There has been more tension than usual and it’s affecting their on-field chemistry. “You’ve been like this since camp, what—
“No, I haven’t!” Christen squeaks a little louder than she intended. “I-I haven’t been like this since camp…”
Tobin steps closer reaching out for her arm and when she doesn’t pull away she rubs her thumb to soothe her lies away. “Yeah, you have…” she whispers.
Christen finally looks Tobin in the eye and tilts her head, “I guess I just got used to not having you around.” She snaps.
The mood suddenly shifts and Tobin can feel Christen pull away. She drops her hand to her waist feeling the cool air hit her palm.
“Oh.”
Feeling small, Tobin puts her hands in her pockets.
“Put your sweater on if you’re cold…” Christen offers stiffly as she walks past her toward the hotel.
She’s hurt that Tobin can just drop everyone so easily, especially her. It wasn’t long ago that she began to feel confident around her and believe that they had something more than just comradeship. It could all be in her mind—it must have been.
Tobin stands in the smell that lingers behind her; she always smelt like gardenias and soap. She can’t find the words to fix this moment. It’s not like the distance was about Christen at all. She had to limit her exposure to everyone. It was a spiritual healing as well as physical and she’s convinced that the distance was necessary. She debates on whether to let her go or chase after her.
“Chris!” She decides on the latter and jogs up to her. “Hey…” she catches up and grabs her shoulders to slow her down, “wait please.”
Christen stops and stands tall on the balls of her feet not wanting to appear as weak as she feels.
Tobin is so elated that she actually stopped; she let a small laugh escape her lips. An automatic mistake because Christen scoffs and continues her path to the hotel at an even faster pace.
She curses at herself, “shit—no— Chris wait!”
“Why?!” She turns in a huff, “So you can laugh at me?! You know…I thought—” She shakes her head and turns away.
Tobin catches up, “You thought?”
“Nothing.”
Christen keeps walking with crossed arms as Tobin struggles to broach the subject again but she keeps at Christen’s pace. She needs to offer an explanation or this might escalate into something else entirely. She convinces herself that she needs to fix this for the team.
“Are you upset with me?” Tobin asks softly. She knows the answer already but she tries an easy one to get her talking.
She doesn’t.
The hotel gets closer every step they take and Tobin feels that they’ve taken way too many without saying anything. She fears that they’ll arrive before talking it out.
At a last ditch effort, she offers some truth in hopes of some in return. “Christen, I don’t know what you want me to say? I didn’t mean to hurt you, I just needed time to find myself outside of soccer.”
When Christen keeps walking up the sidewalk leading to the hotel doors, Tobin’s heart sinks and she holds back. She lingers, kicking at the concrete in defeat, ready to spend the whole night outside. The brisk night air might quell the burn in her chest. Her brain starts to predict how it will be between them from now on, how practice will be in future camps and that she never—
“Are you coming?”
Her heart skips a beat at the unexpected sound of her voice. It’s closer and softer than she expected. When she lifts her head, she sees Christen sitting on the bench right outside the entryway. Tobin keeps her hands in her pockets as she makes her way over, afraid of upsetting her again. She walks up to the bench and hesitates. Christen pats the spot next to her, inviting her to join.
She sits down stealing a few glances at Christen’s face. They sit in silence, both unsure of each other. The moon is out and dawn is still a few hours away from breaking. The world stands still at this time of night. Tobin loves it because it feels like time is infinite.
“You’re right,” Christen reluctantly admits.
Tobin looks up.
“I have been avoiding you.”

The Photographer - Tobin Heath x Reader
Prompt: Hey, I love your writing. I was wondering if you could do Tobin X reader where the reader is a photographer who's helping out taking pictures for re-inc?
Note: This was option B yesterday!
“That’s the third time you have tripped over that case,” Christen laughed as Tobin stumbled again.
“Then we should probably move it, shouldn’t we,” Tobin grumbled, shy, embarrassed.
“I think it has more to do with who owns the case and not the case itself,” Christen shot her knowing smirk.
They had hired a new photographer to help them with the Re-Inc photoshoot. It was one of their biggest product launches yet, so they decided to bring in a new photographer, give the new launch a new look too.
The new photographer was incredible. They were on day two of the shoot and the pictures they had were phenomenal, it was going to be difficult to narrow down which ones to use. She put all the models at ease, earning genuine smiles, describing what she wanted casual and well. She confidently ran the shoot, politely directing everyone around, eagerly taking critic from Christen and Tobin about what they wanted for the products.
“No, it’s the case, we should move it,” Tobin blushed, looking away from Christen.
Christen grabbed her elbow before she walked away, Tobin let herself be pulled back but refused to make eye contact. “Tobs, just talk to her.” She said softly
“Hey guys,” Y/N approached with a smile, leaning into the case at their feet, starting to switch out lenses. “Shit, is this in the way? Here, let me move it.”
“No, no, no, It’s fine, definitely not in the way. You can leave it wherever you want. All good,” Tobin rambled quickly. Christen turned, smirking at Tobin.
“You sure Tobs? Someone might trip.”
“Oh no, Y/N obviously needs it right here. It’s perfect right here,” Tobin rambled again, “you don’t need to move it, you’re perfect,” Tobin directed to the photographer. “umm I mean your equipment. Perfect where it is, I mean.”
Tobin spun on her heel and walked away without saying anything else.
Y/N slowly stood up, watching the soccer player walk away smirking at the interaction.
“So, I’m good?”
“Perfect apparently,” Christen laughed, shaking her head at her best friends’ actions. “Tobin does some photography in her free time.” If Tobin wouldn’t do anything about her obvious crush, Christen would have to step in.
“Yeah? This your way of telling me I just got fired?”
“What? No, not at all! You are doing a great job!”
“I’m kidding Christen,” Y/N reached over and placed a hand on Christens forearm. “Tobin is welcome to mess around with some of my stuff if she wants.”
Y/N began to walk away, camera in one hand, additional lens in the other.
“She would love that!”
Y/N motioned for one the models to come over, so she could begin to shoot again. Christen turned to go find Tobin.
“Tell me how much you love,” Christen shook Tobins shoulders when she found her.
“What did you do?” Tobin challenged.
“Told Y/N that you do photography.”
“You did what?” Tobin looked at her with wide eyes.
“And she seemed pretty impressed, said you can use some of her equipment,” Christen continued as if Tobin hadn’t spoken. “you should totally do it, go ask her about what she uses or what other projects she has done. Her coffee order. Something Tobin!”
“Christen I can’t believe you!”
“I’m helping Tobin, you like her, talk to her. She is approachable, she’s done great work with our launch, she offered to help you,” Christen rubbed her hands up and down Tobin‘s biceps. “Y/N!” she called over her shoulder, causing everyone to stop what they were doing and look in their direction.
“Yo!” Y/N turned around, grinning.
“Tobin is getting coffee, she wants to know what you want,” Christen pushed the midfielder towards the photographer.
“I hate you,” Tobin mumbled under her breath as she walked towards the photographer.
Y/N could see how uncomfortable Tobin was as she approached.
“You don’t have to get me anything Tobin,” she offered sympathetically.
“No, I’m just heading out now.”
Y/N gave her her order, “why don’t you give me a hand when you come back? I’d love some of your insight.”
Tobin took a deep breath as she approached the photographer after returning from her coffee run.
“Ahh thanks Tobin, let’s take a quick break,” Y/N took the offered coffee, setting her camera down on one of her cases.
Talk to her Christen mouthed over Y/N’s shoulder.
“So, uhh, which camera do you like?” Tobin rolled her eyes at herself.
“I’m mostly using the Nikon D850 for this shoot. It’s perfect for a fashion shoot like this; it’s small, has a quick auto-focus. So, I’m able to get a bunch of rapid shots and poses easy. Fashion shoots can get a little chaotic, lots of people, lots of movement, this is pretty durable,” she lit up at the opportunity to talk about her camera. “Plus, it’s pretty good when I do action shots for sports too, but I usually switch between Nikon D500 for those.”
Tobin nodded along.
“Christen said you do a little photography?”
“Oh yea, but nothing like what you do. Your stuff is incredible!”
“Nah, it’s all you guys. You have great products and people to shoot,” Y/N motions around the room. “You know exactly what you want, so that makes it so much easier. I’m just shooting what you guys envision.”
Tobin blushed at the sincere compliment.
“You’ve done such a good job with our stuff, really brought out our vision and made an effort to listen to what we wanted.”
Now Y/N blushed, then began to pick up her camera, motioning another model over to resume shooting.
Tobin awkwardly shifted on the case she was sitting on. Christen came from behind, placing her hands under Tobins arms and lifting her up.
“Ask to help,” Christen whispered in her ear.
“Want to help, Tobin?” Y/N called over her shoulder before Tobin could even think of it. Christen pushed her forward.
Y/N stretched out her arm holding the camera, offering it to Tobin.
“Are you sure?”
“Of course! It’s your shoot, it needs to have your guys’ touch on it too,” Y/N nodded with a smile.
Tobin stepped forward and took the camera, stiffly taking a few photos. Y/N slid up next to her, placing a hand over Tobin’s.
“Relax your grip, you’re too tense, the camera won’t focus as clear.”
Tobin nodded to herself, taking a steadying breath, focussing on loosening her grip. Y/N applied a small amount of pressure to Tobin’s hand, guiding it to a new position. She leaned back to glance at the screen while Tobin kept snapping pictures.
“Those look really good Tobin!” Y/N encouraged, “step to your left a bit, and drop down. It will give you a better angle up and shift the lighting.”
Tobin shifted a little bit, still taking pictures. Y/N nodded along, tilting her head focusing on the screen and the photos as they came up, eyebrows furrowed in concentration. Tobin risked looking at the photographer, her jaw dropped, camera dipping down as she looked at the photographer.
Y/N’s face relaxed, looking away from the screen to Tobin as the photos stopped showing up. Christen rolled her eyes as she saw it occur.  Tobin quickly brought the camera up and rapidly took pictures.
“Want me to take back over?”
“Uhh yea, probably for the best,” Tobin handed the camera back.
Y/N stepped back over, taking the camera back, shifting around the space taking more pictures.
“Smooth Tobs, real smooth,” Christen whispered into Tobin’s ear, nudging her shoulder.
“Was it that bad?” Tobin cringed.
“Nah, it could have been worse. I do suggest you ask her out, I’m guessing most photographers don’t let just anyone touch their cameras.”
“True,” Tobin nodded along, “so you think she would say yes?”
“I would be amazed if she said no Tobs,” Christen squeezed Tobin’s arm reassuringly.
The two stood and watched while Y/N continued to work, seamlessly adjusting people, patiently directing them where they needed to be. Tobin couldn’t take her eyes off the photographer; the subtle flex in her forearm while she gripped the camera, her tongue sticking out as she concentrated, the one piece of hair that wouldn’t stay behind her ear. Tobin took it all in, wanting to learn what other quirks she had.
“I think that’s good for today,” Y/N smiled, beginning to pack up her camera and the additional lenses she had been using. “Thanks everyone, great work!”
Tobin confidently took steps toward Y/N as she snapped one of her cases shut.
“Hey, I’m thinking of going for a drink now, maybe go for supper. Want to join?”
The soccer player tripped over her own feet. She had planned on asking out Y/N, she had not been expecting Y/N to ask her out first.
Y/N misinterpreted Tobin’s stumble as being uncomfortable and began to back track.
“But you’re probably busy. Or I total misread this,” the photographer trailed off, focusing intently on packing her things.
“Shit, no,” Tobin took two large steps to finish closing the distance. “Supper sounds perfect. I was actually on my way over to ask you the same thing.” She awkwardly chuckled, rubbing the back of her neck.
“Oh,” Y/N’s head shot up, “umm great, that’s great.”
This was the first time Tobin had seen Y/N unconfident in her actions.
“Great,” Tobin winked, earning an unexpected blush, “why don’t I help you pack up and we can leave from here?”
Y/N grinned and nodded in return.

Her Mess (Christen x Reader)
Tumblr media
Request: Christen x reader where reader is younger and in college and reader meets the team
It was safe to say that you had always been a bit of a mess. You would argue that you were an organized mess, but Christen would disagree. If the gay mess you turned into the first time Mal had ever introduced you to her was anything to go off of. Yes, you were a mess, but you were her mess, and she took great joy in helping to keep you on track.
From the very beginning, she had helped you with your schedule. Made sure you ate and gave yourself time for studying and soccer. She never overstepped, she was your girlfriend not your mother after all, but she was definitely the organized one in your relationship.
It was why the prospect of traveling without her was incredibly daunting. She was already at camp with the rest of the national team (who you would be meeting for the first time) and you would be meeting them there with Mal after the two of you finished finals. To say you were nervous was an understatement. It was your first call up, and though your girlfriend and best friend had assured you it would be fine, you weren’t so sure. You had quadruple checked the list of things Christen and you had made, but even as you left the plane you were sure you had left something important. You were going to meet the team and you didn’t know if you were supposed to be meeting Christen too, or if you two were going, to be honest.
You sighed, running your hand through your messy hair, before slipping your beanie back on. Your knee jumped up and down impatiently, and you bit your lip. You didn’t like waiting. Why did this car ride have to be so long?
“Do I need to call Mama Press or are you going to chill out on your own?” Mal said finally, her hand coming down to still your leg. You grinned sheepishly at her.
“I just-... What if they don’t like me, and what if they’re weirded out by the age difference?” You rambled, your fingers tapping on the car window.
“You’re like the funniest person I know. The team is going to love you! And I’ll be honest, It was a little weird at first for the person who was like my sister to be dating someone who was basically my mom. But after watching you two together, it’s obvious that you were made for each other,” Mal said softly, her hand running soothing circles on your thigh. You frowned.
“What if she doesn’t want to tell them that she’s dating me because she’s ashamed of the age difference?” You asked softly, staring intently at your lap. Sure, Mal was cool with the age difference now, and so we’re your parents, but you knew that there were a lot of people out there who weren’t. Plus Christen was the Christen Press, and you were just a disorganized rookie.
Gentle fingers tilted your chin up, and your Y/e/c met Mal’s brown.“Christen is a lot of things. I don’t think ashamed is one of them,”
You nodded, returning your attention to the city passing by. You loved Christen, and you hoped that Mal was right.
******
Most people would hate getting off a plane and stepping directly into practice, but you were grateful for it. The field was your happy place, a place you didn’t have to think about all the what-ifs. A place where you could simply showcase your skills.
By the time you and Mal made it to the locker room, it was nearly empty. (Barring your girlfriend, who had stayed back to give you a tight hug and kiss, and Tobin who just sent you a small smile).
“You ready for this cutie?” Your girlfriend asked, settling down on the bench beside you, nudging you with her shoulder, and placing a kiss on your pink cheeks.
You stuck your tongue out at Mal who made a gagging sound.
“I think so,” You shrugged, rooting through your bag to find the last items of your gear, things you were sure you had put in this morning. Your eyebrows furrowed as you shoved your shin guards aside in search of your socks.
“Is it true you have the sprint record for UCLA?” Tobin nudged your other side. You nodded, not taking your eyes off of the contents of your bag. Had you been paying more attention, you probably would have freaked out that the Tobin Heath knew who you were.
“Don’t forget the juggling record either,” Mal added, smiling. You had quite the reputation for putting defenders on their asses, and it was going to be entertaining watching you work your magic with the national team.
“Damn,” Tobin mumbled wide eyes. She was going to have to call dibs on you for the scrimmage. You barely spared her a glance, groaning as you continued to dig for an item you were beginning to fear wasn’t in your bag. You took a deep breath, trying not to panic. Of course you had forgotten something important on your first camp with the national team.
Christen rubbed your back, her head tilting to the side as you ignored one of your heroes (your hero being her best friend was something she found immensely entertaining), her hand coming up to rub your back. “What are you looking for my darling,”
“I forgot my socks,” you huffed, shoving your bag to the floor pouting. Christen’s lips ticked up slightly as she leaned in to kiss your pink cheeks.
“That’s alright. I have an extra pair for you in my bag,”
Your blush deepened as you took the extra pair, slipping them on your feet. You nodded in thanks, she simply winked in return. She knew you’d forget something. You always did.
******
Meeting the team was an… experience. Kelley had immediately jumped on top of you, squealing about a new baby to corrupt before she was pulled off by Alex. Ashlyn and Ali had argued with Becky and Alyssa about who was going to be your team moms. The youngins had bombarded you with so many questions that it felt like your head was spinning. But through it, all Christen’s hand remained firmly in yours.
Standing in line, waiting for the forward vs defender drill to begin was a surreal experience for you. You watched with a keen eye as Mal went first and nearly navigated the ball past Becky. You kissed Christen’s cheek before she went and cleanly got past Kelley. Tobin took the next spot, pulling a clean nutmeg off on Abby. You were going to have to one-up her.
You took a deep breath, trying to settle your nerves, waiting to see which defender you would be up against.
“You good kid?” Megan asked, bumping your shoulder with her. You blinked, fighting the urge to squeal that The Megan Rapino was talking to you.
“Hm, excited!” You smiled, biting your lip as Sonnett took her place at the front of her line. Sonnett was good, but you were better and your desire to make a good first impression meant that you were really going to have to put on a show. There would be no better partner for the dance you had planned.
“Think you can best Sonnett?” Carli smirked, tapping you the ball.
“Definitely. Cant let a Cavalier get one over on me,” You winked, beginning to juggle the ball. Yeah, this was going to be fun.
******
“Holy shit, how are you so fast,” Emily panted, catching up to you after you’d made another shot at an unsuspecting Alyssa Naeher. It speared just past her fingertips, making the goal rattle as it made contact with the net.
“I ate lots of fudge striped cookies when I was younger,” You nodded, wiping the sweat from your forehead and heading towards the sidelines for your water break. From the time you were little you had believed wholeheartedly that the cookies made you run faster.
“Fudge stripped what?” Emily asked, her eyebrows furrowing beside you.
“Made by the Keebler elves. They’re magic,” You shrugged, glancing around for the greenbottle with your name on it, entirely unaware of the odd looks the team was giving you and the loving smile your girlfriend was sporting. “Where did I put my bottle?”
“It’s over-“ Mal started, only to be cut off by Christen’s elbow being lodged in her ribs.
“Take mine babe,” She laughed, passing you her bottle. You nodded in thanks, squirting the liquid into your mouth. What would you do without her? Mal smirked over your head at the green-eyed forward. Maybe part of your forgetfulness was her love of coming to your rescue.
“Sick ball skills Ducky,” Tobin clapped you in the back.
“Thanks!” You squeaked, the stream of water missing your mouth and spraying Christen in the chest. “Oops,” You giggled.
“If you want me to kiss you, you did it have to get me all wet, you could just ask,” She winked and you felt heat wash over your cheeks, all your previous confidence evaporating.
Mal covered her ears and shook her head fast. “Please don’t answer that with the comeback you’re thinking of,”. You smirked, shaking your head. You wouldn’t force her to bear her best friend and her team mom flirting.
“Hmm, I love your kisses,”
Christen giggled, wrapping her arms around your waist, and pulling you into a quick kiss. You pulled away when the team wolf-whistled, burying your face in your girlfriend's chest.
“Told you she wasn’t embarrassed,” Mal said, patting your back.
“Yeah, how could she when you put everyone on their ass,” Sonnett cackled. Your groan was muffled by your girlfriend's soft skin. Her fingers found their way under your chin, coaxing you out of your favorite hiding place. You Y/e/c eyes met her green ones.
“You thought I was embarrassed?” She asked softly, and you gave her a slight nod. How couldn’t she be? She was the Christen Press and you were just a bumbling college student who would lose her head if it wasn’t attached to her body.
“You’re you, and you have everything together, and I’m me and I forget everything,” You mumbled, shrugging.
“Well, I love you, even when you forget stuff. Plus, You look really cute in my clothes,” She kissed your nose and your cheeks before landing on your lips. You smiled into the kiss, enjoying the way her soft lips felt against yours.
It didn’t matter that you were younger. You would prove yourself to be an asset to the team and Christen loved you.
“Did they forget we’re here?” Emily’s whisper read followed by a slapping sound and Lindsey’s voice.
“Way to ruin a moment Sonnett,”
Yes. You were a mess, but you were Christen’s mess and you’d fit right in.

veryasian.co 🇯🇵🇺🇸🏳️‍🌈 Japanese American Erica Sullivan won 🥈 silver in the inaugural women’s 1500m freestyle! She’s also quickly earning a reputation for charming reporters, both in English and Japanese.
“Being able to get on the podium in Japan as an Asian American woman, and getting to take silver in a historical women’s event, as someone who likes women and identifies as gay, is so cool. It’s awesome,” Sullivan said.
😅 She ended her interview by saying, “Also, I would like to use this shot to say that if the women’s soccer team, specifically Tobin Heath and Christen Press, would like to reach out, that would mean the world.”

Arsenal’s player ratings for Barca vs Arsenal UWCL Group Stage 1st Leg
based on what I remember from watching the full match live; don’t think I have it in me to relive that pain for the purposes of deeper analysis. ratings will be conservative, like that dude on AFTV said, if we didn’t win a game nobody’s getting higher than a 7.
Starting XI: Manu — 7/10. probably only the first goal where she could’ve done better by parrying it out of Mariona’s path, but other than that she stepped up big time. no one would’ve batted an eye if she let Alexia’s pk make it 5, but she gave us something to cheer for in the 94th minute of what was a frustrating watch.  Noelle — 4/10. Mariona was all over her just exploiting her flank for fun and when she wasn’t defending, was way too wasteful with misplaced passes and you would feel tense whenever a pass went her way. Leah — 5/10. looked severely out of her depth in the entire first half. came back stronger in the second half and gradually grew in confidence, helping to carry the ball forward and get the short spells of attack going.  Jen — 5.5/10. some good blocks and interceptions that helped foil the relentless Barca attack but it was clear for all to see in the 3rd goal that she simply didn’t have the pace to keep up with Oshoala’s intelligent and blistering runs.  Steph Catley — 3/10. close to non-existent. let Graham Hansen have a field day dribbling past, through, and all over her. almost yelled at my screen questioning if she even knew how to get in a tackle or at least do something to put Graham Hansen off.  Lia — 4.5/10. lacking her usual composure likely due to the intense high press and her distributions were almost all unsuccessful. hope her ankle is okay from blocking that shot.
Frida — 6/10. probably the only one in midfield who actually got up the pitch a bit and covered the most ground amongst the three. very happy she finally got her first goal (though it was a consolation).
Kim Little — 5/10. many a time tried to be too clever right in front of her own penalty box and got dispossessed for her trouble. covered a lot for Maritz, eventually forced into repeated back passes and could not fulfil her role of linking play to the forwards.
Katie — 4.5/10. spent most of the time as a wing-back because Catley needed the help. her physicality and aggressiveness is a plus, i am of the opinion that she should be LB instead. in the few chances there were to get the ball up the pitch, her passes were errant and basically led to turnover in possession back to Barca.
Beth — 4.5/10. some rare instances of carrying the ball forward and winning fouls, but was too isolated to really pose any threat to Barca’s defence. the way she yanked Mariona out of the way was the highlight of the match, that’s how uninspired this game was for Arsenal.
Viv — 4.5/10. in fairness, she really had zero to none service up top. on any other day, she would be putting away that clear-cut chance and should have done better. good job on blocking that free-kick with her head tho.
Subs:
Tobin — 6.5/10. the sole bright spark in Arsenal’s forward line today. practically the only source of danger to threaten Barca’s defence, with good balls into the box and eventually the free kick to assist Frida’s goal. looked a class above everybody else in an Arsenal shirt when she came on, it was a display of experience in performing assuredly in high stress games. once she is back to fitness and builds up game time, she defo needs to be a starter.
Cait — 5/10. was the least impactful of the forward line subs, but you could feel her desire to make something happen. also showed that she is adept at centre forward play and holding up the ball.
Keets — 6/10. energetic, made good movements and allowed Arsenal to build up some sort of rhythm for a good period until Barca killed us off for good with the 4th goal.
Jords — 5/10. managed to get the ball past the halfway line to the likes of Tobin Heath and the midfield was less overrun once she came on, but unfortunately gave up a penalty at the very end. thought her challenge was alright but we aren’t the ref so our opinions are for nought.
Mana — N/A. wasted on the bench today. like Tobin, is clear that she can be the catalyst to get the attack going and performs in pressure situations. quite a few of her goals scored for Arsenal so far have been equalisers or that important 2nd goal to cushion the lead.  Bonus:
Jonas Eidevall — 3/10. hard to fault him for the set-up and approach, but should have made the personnel changes once it was clear that our deep-lying midfield was not holding up against Barca’s game and leaving the attackers stranded.
Referee — 2/10. no idea what she was doing, awful decisions and yellow carding people the way one would be handing out candy on halloween. spared from a 1/10 because she didn’t cost us the game, our poor play took care of that.  Overall: everything crumbled from the back line getting rinsed by Barca’s forwards. chain reaction which meant the midfield got sucked in to get bodies behind the ball, the forwards left with no service and practically nothing to do. in the rare instances we could get on the ball, everyone was playing with some fear or tentativeness and that just played into Barca’s press. take nothing away from how excellent Barca were, they were just unplayable. every pass, every decision, every run, was in tune with their teammate and looked oh so effortless. pure class and confidence. it’s a positive that Arsenal got this reality check early on in the competition, no point feeling good in the bubble of the WSL when the highest level of Europe is so far ahead. we move!

post game opinions
- the only people on the pitch who played well during that whole ninety were of course sweden along with baby t, alyssa, ertz, and rapinoe who had some good ideas and looks.
- not sure what went wrong with press-morgan-heath up top just seemed like none of them were hungry to score at all. also didn’t see much defense from any of them except tobin whose involvement defensively was very limited. i hate to say it but none really had any impact whatsoever other than a few on target shots.
- midfield was just a mess the whole game. there was no chemistry to be found between them and the strikers except for that one beautiful ball from rose to carli. sam was unusually quiet which i maybe attribute to some nerves. lindsey looked like she hadn’t played a game in years. overall extremely sloppy on the ball. sweet baby rose was trying so hard but sweden knew what to expect from her which in turn forced her to turn to passes that shouldn’t of been as off target as they were.
- defensively kelley and becky both had an okay game. not any big moments from either of them, but for the most part they held pretty steady. abby’s performance was a bit painful for me to watch. none of sweden’s goals are 100% her fault obviously but i do feel like she could’ve done a much better job with covering her zone and not giving sweden so much time with the ball around the box. i don’t know what to say about crystal really she had some good moments and some bad ones. i don’t think she was getting the help she needed from her teammates therefore making it a very hard job to do her job properly.
- if i were to have been the one choosing subs i would’ve left alex on for a bit longer and subbed in pinoe for tobin earlier just to see if they could link up better. would’ve put tierna in for abby somewhere around the sixtieth minute mark and then sonnett in for dunn a little later. totally agree with the mewis and ertz subs.
- for the next game i think we need to work on cleamer passes, more effective offensive runs, communication, stepping to balls, taking some offensive chances, and finishing in the final third.
phew that was a lot to unpack
edit: losing this game was not one single players fault and i hope no one acts like it is. this post isn’t meant to be coming for any players saying that they’re the reason they lost. these are just my observations and i still think all of these players are amazing. they just had an off game and that’s perfectly okay! so much of how that game went was because sweden came out ready to play and did so beautifully.
