Related to that last post -

I have semi-followed jfashion/lolita fashion blogs for pretty much my entire internet career. One of the things that I see really frequently on 'outfit of the day' posts from these blogs is that they'll list the brands where they got an article if it's a Known Brand. Then, at the end of the post, there's an 'everything else offbrand'.

I get why this happens. But I've rotated in my mind for a while now the concept of doing a fashion blog where the outfit info breaks down where every single item comes from, not just the expensive fashion brand items. Because I think there's an unintended impression that comes from these kinds of posts that, if you want a coordinated outfit in a specific style that looks good, you have to spend a lot of money.

You can do that, if that's an option for you! And there are ways to get that Brand Look, if it's the brand you're attached to, without spending Brand Money. Secondhand sales are major in that sphere of fashion, as are (at least in lolita fashion) replicas, which have been controversial but I support on the simple principle that they extend the size range in which certain designs that are never produced above a Large are available in.

But moving outside the circles of jfashion and lolita fashion (and, heck, even including them), I do think there could be value in more people who dress up in cool outfits providing a source for everything they're wearing. Because sometimes an investment item can make an outfit. But more often, I've found, it's everything else you wear with the investment item that really showcases the investment item and creates a look, instead of just...wearing an expensive thing that came from a big name brand.

And I don't think it'd be a bad thing, especially in this age of internet fashion people and conspicuous consumption and kids getting the impression that subculture fashion has to be expensive and brand-name, to remind people how your own personal taste and judgment can be used to create Outfits and Looks without having to spend a lot of money or own any big name brand items, at all.

#i get regular compliments on my 'unique style' and legit a good 45% of everything I own is just clearance stuff from joe fresh #another 35% is from winners and the remaining 20% is investment items; handmade; thrifted; or handmedowns #it's about having an idea in mind of what you want to express #and being creative about using the pieces you've got #and being able to imagine how you might use a potential piece with other pieces you already have #or pieces you might be able to easily acquire or make #and always being open to and aware of the possibilities in what's available to you #(including shopping outside your 'section'. I could have spent $35 on an oversized white dress shirt in the women's section.#i instead got a size large white dress shirt for $10 from the men's clearance section. looks exactly the damn same.)#(AND it's better quality cotton too!)#and knowing what you're willing to spend a little more on to get Exactly The Right One #(and/or what will be of high enough quality and work well enough with enough different styles as yours develops >#< that you'll get much MUCH use out of it for a long time)#it's absolutely a skill but it's one that you can learn! and develop! and get better at!#i just think everyone should have clothes that they feel good in #and not be made to feel like that's impossible for Them In Particular for any reason

what if i said 'fuck it' to practicality for dola's genshin outfit but in the inverse of how genshin styles their women...

#in that she'll have a long long skirt and a lot of fabric instead lmao #like... call it me not being creative enough to work with hoyo's design formula for their female characters but #dola lives in big loose clothing and long skirts and it just doesnt feel like her until shes wearing those #how will she climb things? idk she gets a unique mechanic the way ayaka and mona get special sprints i guess #im just going to lose my mind if i have to go with genshin's design philosophy for her bc i honestly dont even like how they style like #90% of the women

H&M has been SO ugly for the past like 9 months. I don't buy new clothes, but I like to check out what's out and it's rough.

I hate the Y2K fashion that's out mostly and I hate the 70s revival, but going back to minimalist fashion is like, boring, because that was 8 years ago already

#totes bro #by i dont buy new i mean i dont buy new clothes only used i definitely go to goodwill #i like 70s fashion but i dont like the revival #honestly we've been in a fashion dark ages since tictok #like its so unbelievably ugly all my gen z friends..... questionable #i wear mens clothes btw that im even giving these opinions is kinda funny #ive branches out to womens clothes but ive been making them because unfortunately #i love long skirts like i always wanted to wear long skirts and now I do maybe i look like a Mennonite but who cares #i have to make all my long skirts but like if my hobby is sewing i gotta do something #i opened this again to say maybe h&m is minimalist because it caters to a different demographic vs shien?#im a big sweater person and they have a few sweaters that are pretty and kinda more unique colors #however I dont have money and h&m sweaters either are great and i love them forever or trash #i have thermo regulation problems so i wear flannel then wool sweater then cardigan to work every day stacked #with wool gloves. today i checked the thermostat because i spent all day shivering #i wear scarves too. i tend not to wear hats because its not business casual but i have 1 wool beanie from a customer of ours #that i will put on because if its from a customer and has their branding then its appropriate right? its originally like $60 #i dont know why they have those and why we got sent 2 for free #i get first dibs on swag because i go in to work early and my boss thinks because i designed the products for the customer #i have like the most special relationship with the customer #its 3am and i cant sleep

Do gotta hand it to FO4; there’s something very poetic about The Railroad, a group taking its name from a forbearer that also at great risk smuggled slaves to freedom, made up of this small, struggling, regularly brutally purged, yet defiantly resilient group of civilians and liberated slaves, during the course of the game, operating and living out of a little church of historical significance, a symbol of freedom in its own right, living out of the crypts beneath it, among the bodies and the graves.

#everything about them is poetic and sad. it’s poetic and sad the last scripted Dialogue for Deacon’s first mission with the player is ‘End #of the line.’ Said happily about reaching escape. but also the quest name of the quest where you’re asked to walking into HQ & destroy them #there’s something poetic and awful and painful about how Deacon’s first personal remark to the Sole Survivor is that he’d take it as a #personal favor if they wouldn’t betray them to the institute since he vouched for them. it’s said laughingly. friendly. and the last thing #said to Deacon if the player /does/ betray them to the Institute is Desdemona’s ‘I should have known better than to trust your #recommendation’. before his desperate ‘I swear this wasn’t me. what the fuck’ and before they all die. there’s something deeply tragic and #poetic in that one of the women in HQ gives Preston caps excitedly and thanks him for the Minutemen. in that if you wipe them out with the #brotherhood you storm a church to be met by desperate civilian begging you to just leave them alone as they’re cut down pipe pistols to #power armor and Gatlings. not anger like the other factions. fear and desperation. pleading. trying to buy someone else time to flee #in that if Deacon isn’t in HQ when you destroy it if you turn on them he will hunt you down and try to kill you to avenge them. a #trait unique in every faction to him alone. In that they only move on the brotherhood when attacked. in that they attack the Institute to #save people not to destroy a threat. In that you find safe house after safe house with dead civilians in cloth.#in the way they’ve died many times before and someone always cares enough to pick up the pieces. in that every route points you gently to #them. but there’s nothing to keep them safe except choice. that even if you abandon them but don’t attack Dez will let you walk.#in the fact Deacon’s character exists at all. they are truly deeply overwhelmingly tragic. and it’s beautiful. and simple. just people #trying to do something that can’t be done forever knowing that for the days they can. everyone is standing in a host of ghost’s shoes #even the PC is given a dead man’s gun and can take his name. is recruited becuase they’re falling without him #and they live in a church among the dead in the crypts far from the light and their symbol is a lanter #Mama Murphy calls them the light in the darkness. truly. surrounded by it. but better to light one candle than to curse the dark #and hundreds of people have done so and died so that a few others could live. and they’re still doing it. and they don’t regret #Deacon calls them a family. P.A.M. stayed and helped for love of Glory. Carrington says Desdemona’s flaw is her heart - evidenced by her #allowing the PC to join or leave despite the risk they represent when the clinical call would be to kill them or another extreme measure.#and he’s right. but it’s also why they have a chance to live. Everything about them is about vulnerability and heart. Everything #fallout 4 #the railroad #the railroad fallout 4

listen i know this isn’t how bodies work but this is a fictional game anyway. give me ffxv dlc of Daemon Slayer Iris just as big and buff as her brother and crushing daemons with her bare fists. she throws her moogle plushies at them and the force sends them flying into the air. she stomps on them with the cute fashionable boots she designed herself. she still wears cute skirts and is as bubbly as ever but she could also kill you if she wasn’t so nice.

#also i get there are story constraints for some of these #and planned dlcs that failed #but the fact that we don't get to see any aged up women characters #in ch 14 #is just depressing #like i'm giving square too much credit because they'd probably be the exact same models #just in slightly different colored clothes #but an older iris or a scientist-turned-daemon-hunter sania #or a cindy with hunters gear and old wounds from driving glaives around the world of ruin #or aranea who probably wouldn't change that much visibly #but still could have interesting design choices based on plot or something idk #i'm tired and i love the ffxv girls #like they're all interesting and unique and full of character #and i wish we got more of them in ch 14
