Personal head canon is that Ezra would be seen as this super chill, super awesome, super handsome Jedi Knight by the New Republic citizenry EXCEPT for his deranged attachment to using ‘Jabba’ as an alias.
You search his name on the Holo-Net and Jabba’s pic comes up. That’s how often he uses it. (Ezra is delighted by this; Sabine decidedly less so.)

Okay, if no one will make the content for JynBine, I am going to do it myself. But this time I am going to add the Blueberry Boi™ because I want to.
Anyway, friendship headcanons for some kind of canon-divergent AU, here we go:
• If girls spent time with each other in their teenage years then it would be hilarious to watch how they blow stuff up and bring Ezra along. Like, they would make a ridiculous "prepare to get wrecked" trio that gets in trouble all the time. All of them would probably bond over living on the streets, committing crimes and in Ezra and Jyn's case, being an orphan.
• Ezra would teach Jyn how to meditate as soon as he sees her cyber crystal. Just to, y'know, help her feel closer to the Force, to her mom. At first, Jyn acts indifferent but then, with time, she actually starts to enjoy it and meditates at an opportunity, feeling grateful. This habit annoys Sabine at first but she accepts it with time and even participates in that activity... Too bad her temper is limited but she tries, she truly does.
• Jyn enjoys watching Sabine paint anything... Unless it depicts her. In that case, you can hear sounds of hysterical laughter (brought by tickling from Jyn as a revenge), art supplies falling from a shelf and Jyn saying "You painted ME? I WILL PAINT YOU!" That's when Jyn realizes that she has more in common with Ezra Bridger than she initially thought.
• Unfortunately for Ezra, Jyn also shares a sense of humor with Zeb and Chopper so for him it's hell multiplied by 3. Sabine finds it hilarious and amusing, especially in their younger years.
• Hera basically gains yet ANOTHER child (friendly reminder: both Sabine and Jyn were born in 21 BBY). She understands Jyn's pain about the loss of her mother (AND her father), they have a good talk about it and our Space Mom is caring, like always. At first, she wonders where Jyn got her quirks from until she learns that Saw raised her. And then Hera is like "Yup, makes sense now".
• Girls often fall asleep together on the same bunk bed. They can't help but carefully embrace each other. Sabine notices that Jyn sleeps with an angry face and lovingly makes fun of it, she likes to poke the spot between her eyebrows because it looks so scrunchy. Jyn envies Sabine sometimes because unlike her she has a peaceful smiley face most of the time. Which is the reason why she loves either poking or caressing her cheeks to see if she'll stop smiling.
• Jyn loves helping Sabine in her artistic expression and sometimes brings her stolen art supplies just because. Once she came back with her face covered in ash, hair clearly burned at the edges and boots submerged in motor oil. Turns out she somehow brought a huge package of glitter. When Sabine prepares to ask Jyn about her appearance, Jyn nonchalantly says "Nah, please don't ask". Then Sabine asks "Wait, why would I need a package of glitter?" To which Jyn replies "I'm sure you'll find a way to use it :D". Two or three days later an imperial base is covered by sparkly rebel signs and some stormtroopers are left confused (and terrified because somebody actually threw f-ing glitter bombs at them).
• In their younger years, Sabine often jokes about drawing on Jyn's face when she takes a nap. That's why Jyn doesn't take naps most of the time. However, Ezra still manages to find Jyn dozing somewhere on the Ghost and quickly tells Sabine where exactly she is. It's childish but hey, they are children.
• Jyn actually has a surprisingly good relationship with Ketsu. Which prompted the latter to say 'Oh, so now I have TWO little sisters'. The former was both embarrassed and relieved when she heard that.
• Of course, in this AU, Jyn basically joins the Rebellion way too soon but not without a doubt. She meets Cassian under other circumstances but it's still full of tension. Blueberry and Bean often tease Jyn about him. When they get older Jyn gets revenge on both by teasing THEM about their relationship instead. Sabine and Ezra immediately regret all the years of 'let's make Jyn's love life a living hell'.

Welcome to the family
Hello there lovely! 💕
⚠️!!TW: mention of abuse, Mature language!! Read at your own risk ⚠️
It was a normal day for Marinette Cheng.
Working.
Working.
Working.
Working.
Did I say working?
Well who could blame her. Working at a the office would never be easy...
After a while,
She heard a knock on the door.
She looked up to see her dear mother bringing her a cup of coffee.
"Hello maman." Said Mari looking up from her papers putting her significant sweet smile on her face.
"Hello ma chérie (sweetie), how is work going?" Asked her mother gently patting her head softly.
"Its going ok, it would be great if it would be that much." Said the girl looking at her mother with tired eyes.
Sabine looked at her little girl with a soft glare.
"So, how is it for you? Got any new clients?" Said Marinette while picking her cup.
"Well, yes and no." Said the woman looking at her daughter.
Mari blinked two times,
'What did she just said?' Thought the girl.
"What do you mean by that maman?" Asked Marinette.
"Well, I have a mission for you, after your training today. You need to go to this club." Said Sabine putting a picture on her desk.
Mari looked at the picture.
'That's where the fricking Joker goes?! What the-'
"I know what you think" says Sabine pulling out a tissue after Marinette dropped the little cup of coffee on her lap.
Marinette looked at her mother with a 'no-shit-sherlock' look.
"But, we have heard that he's abusing his girlfriend" said Sabine trying to convince her Daughter.
"Mom, that's basically their relationship, he's a psychopath who manipulates and kills, and his girlfriend is well known to be seduced and manipulated by him" said Mari searching the article on her laptop.
"I know that, but a trust worthy source told me that she is seeking for help, but she can't get away from him" said her mother feeling pity for the woman.
"I-" Mari looked at her mother ready to refuse but then realization hit her.
"Ok, I'll do it, but I need a male body costume, dont forget I have some "things" in the way" said Marinette getting up from her desk, putting the papers down.
"On it ma chérie." Said Sabine smiling at her daughter.
After her mother left
The started thinking how she can convince Joker to give his girlfriend.
And then it hit.
'Money' thought the girl,
'But hes well known to get the money and shooting the person after' she thought.
Well, she didn't want to die tonight.
'Hmm, maybe getting him drunk enough to not realize what hes doing?' She thought looking at an her desk.
She walked to it and opened one of the locks
'Sleeping pills? Well, at least give it a try' she thought.
***
After 6 hours, everything was ready, she was looking convincing enough.
The pills were on her pocket.
She took a bodyguard with her just in case.
"Be careful love. Please come back safe." Said her mother.
"I will maman, don't forget to prepare the room for our guest" Marinette said to her mother as the woman fixed her tie.
"I'll see you later ma'am, I'll make sure to bring her home" said the guard as they got into the limousine.
***
The drive was long enough for the two of them to discuss how the plan would work.
"So, when we get there my name will be Benjamin Oliver, I am 35 years old, a rich man looking for a partner." Said Mari pulling out the fake Id.
"Yes, when we get there I will be behind you with the money."
Said the bodyguard looking at the road
"Before that I need to bait him into drinking something so I can put the pills in" said Mari verifying her pocket for the pills.
"Understand sir."
***
When they got there, the two of them blended in with the other people when a voice came behind her.
"Eyyy, my old pal!" Said the intoxicated voice.
She turned around to see Joker himself behind her holding a glass of alcohol
'Well, that was quick, now just go with the flow' the girl thought.
"Oh hello Joker. How are you doing?" Asked Marinette making her voice strong and masculine.
"Ya know, business as usual" said the man taking a seat beside her.
"Ah I see. Well, i heard some rumors that you sell something special." Said the girl trying to bring up the situation.
The man took a while to think what she meant until the realization hit him.
"Oh yea. Why? Are you intrested?~" said the intoxicated man.
Mari put her hand around his shoulder trying to put the pills in his drink.
"Yes, I am indeed. How much?" Asked Marinette after finally putting the pills in his glass
"Whoa, pal, dont you wanna see her first?" Laughed the man at her serious face.
"Well yes, I would love to see the lady." Said the girl making a sign to the guard to come with her.
"Follow me my friend." Said the man as he started to push people out of the way.
They walked to the other side of the club when they stood infront of a golden haired woman In a short sparkly dress.
The woman had bruises on her arms and legs, While her neck was covered in a little bandage that was just hanging there like it was supposed to be on the floor a long time ago.
"Oh Harley, I would want you to meet my friend...uhm..?" The man looked at her waiting for an answer.
"Benjamin. Benjamin Oliver." Said Mari looking at the woman who started shaking after seeing them.
"So how much would you pay for the chick?"Asked Joker, not carrying about the poor female form behind him.
Marinette clapped her hand and the bodyguard opened a suitcase full of packs of 500 dollars.
"Is this enough?"asked Marinette observing the man starting to yawn.
"Yes. Now Harley dear, you are going with Benji while i-" Joker could finish his line as he collapsed on the floor with his face on the couch.
"Quinn, you are coming with me." Said Marinette as she pulled out a little outfit out of the guards backpack.
Harley looked at her Puddin one last time before she nodded her head and took the outfit.
"Go to the bathroom and change, the guards will distract the people so they wont come here, understood?" Asked the girl.
Harley nodded and headed to the girls bathroom with Marinette following behind.
***
After the woman changed, they got out of the club getting into the limousine.
After some moments of silence Harley started speaking.
"Listen here man, just because you got me out of there doesn't mean I'm going to be your sex toy, got it?" Said Quinn trying to make her voice sound angry.
Marinette just nodded her head and the drive continued in silence.
***
When they got to the mansion.
Harley tried to make a run but her leg gived up on her after the first 5 steps.
"No need to run Harls. We are making sure you are safe" said Marinette helping the woman get up from the cold stone.
Harley tried to argue but she was too tired to fight back, so she accepted her faith.
Once they got inside, they were greeted with the warm of the household.
"Marinette, my baby! You are safe!" Said her mother running at her from the stairs.
"Wait, what?" Questioned Harley as she sat down on the warm couch.
Marinette washed her face with a tissue removing her masculine makeup from her face and taking the wig off.
"Whoa, a Kinder Egg with surprises aren't ya?" Said Harley laughing a little.
"Hello dear, my name is Sabine Cheng, welcome in our home."
Said Sabine handling the woman a pack of ice.
"Sabine Cheng? As the popular Lawyer?" Asked Harley out of curiosity.
"Yes, that Sabine" smiled Sabine as she saw the girl started to panic.
"Dont worry, we are good guys, we wont turn you in, but we want to help you get better." Says Marinette as she took off her suit.
"How does your husband let you take random strangers in?" Asked Harley chuckling a bit as she felt more relaxed.
Marinette's smiley face turning stoic as the words got out of her mouth.
"Did I say something wrong?" Asked Quinn worryingly.
"No-no, just my ex-husband wasn't a man of his word" said Sabine patting gently Harley's hair.
"He is a disgraceful man and a cheater." Said an old man coming down stairs.
"Hello Master Fu. I forgot to tell you about our guest." Said Mari as she got up to hug the old man.
"Dont worry about that little ladybug, everything is ok." Smiled the man at the girl.
"And welcome to the family Harleen"

Daminette God au
@ozmav I hope this makes up for the angst?
@mindfulmagics I think we talked about this like, two...three (?) weeks ago
@starry-bi-sky here’s the bulletpoint list uwu
Basically this universe, but they’re gods
The kwamis are called ‘The Council’ why? Bc I want it to. They’re like the ancient beings of the universe and all that Jazz gave the lesser gods a planet which is now earth. Fun.
Tikki is the ancient goddess of life. Ancient meaning she was there since the beginning of time. Same goes for the others.
No successor things bc I can only tolerate it so much. And if it did happen people would call Lila out quickly
I have roles for all of them yay
Adrien is the god of the sun, Chloe is the goddess of the stars (ilysm) and Luka is the god of the moon (my boo) (I’ll explain why he’s not god of music)
Rose is the goddess of flowers (I know I’m funny), juleka is the goddess of shadows (think Dr facilier from princess and the frog. What that shadow) she likes to scare people
Nathaniel and Marc, gods of art. One of visual art, the other of writing, take a wild guess on who’s who
Sabrina goddess of loyalty. nuff said
Kagami, one of the two gods of war. Also the goddess of discipline and battle strategy. (Ily bae)
Max god of strategy (not battle but other things), and intelligence
Kim god of competition
Alix goddess of time and speed
Ondine goddess of the sea
Mireille goddess of dreams and Aurore goddess of the weather
Jagged is the god of music. Don’t argue w/ me on this. Penny is the goddess of organization
Sabine goddess of motherhood, Tom god of youth (he has a youthful personality so it fits)
Idk for Ivan and mylene
Alya is a messenger goddess
Nino can be god of protection or something 🐢
Lila is the goddess of lies, treachery and mischief (seems fitting no?)
Marinette is the goddess of love (bby ilysm 💞) Why bc I said so. Everyone is at least slightly attracted to her.
Damian is the god of war and vengeance (you see where I’m going with this right) no one really likes him bc he’s always brooding and angry
Jason is the god of death bc he died that one time (that is such an inappropriate joke I’m so sorry)
Tim can be like god of alchemy or something (I need to preserving creating juice)
Dick is god of misfortune despite being so smiley (he likes to annoy people)
Too many gods atm
Y’all can add the quantic kids
Lila loathes Damian for always shutting down her lies
Marinette likes to chat with aurore and mireille on clouds. Luka and Chloe join when they can, Adrien is too shy
Tikki took a liking to marinette and gave her the gift of creativity. She’s still the goddess of love, now she can help the humans with their gifts to their loved ones
Adrien really likes Mari
So does Damian
And maybe Kim but then the boy is like nah we’re like sibling it’d be weird. Still gushes when she does cute things
Jason and Dick are the most annoying out of the batfam like dick if you wanna do your job do it right and Jason stop slacking off war isn’t fun is nobody’s dying
Marinette sometimes joins Chloe and Luka when they do the night thing bc there are couples who want a romantic night setting
Lila wants to be on marinette’s good side bc if she isn’t then she’ll have to face Damian
Marinette genuinely likes everyone. She, however, does not like being lied to. Lila tried to be careful
Kagami and Mari get along surprisingly well. People are weirded out when Chloe joins them too.
Alya and Mari aren’t as close as they are in canon but they’re still nice to one another and have picnics every other Sunday afternoon
Very protective Damian
Mari likes to make him flower crowns
She once gave Adrien her lucky charm bracelet to help him ask his crush out. He turned red and ran away. She’s never been more confused in her life
Ondine likes to dump bucketloads of water on Kim out of nowhere
Sabrina gets mad when people break their loyalty to their friends, lovers, etc. She goes on rampages
Alya has wings, Nino has a shield on his back
The gods like drinking a lot of alcohol. They also like this weird honey beverage.
Marinette once made Tim a friendship bracelet. It was pink and had his name embroidered in it. She thought he didn’t like it and he told her to fuck off and that he’s gonna wear it forever.
Jason got lowkey jealous but he got a ‘best brother of the year’ mug and a pink bracelet with his own name.

or was she?
Chapter 1 (HERE)
Chapter 2
_________________________________________
There was a knock on his hotel door.
Helen glanced at it with concern, quickly placing the brush he was holding, along with the… paint he had been using into the side table, keeping his knife tucked in his sleeve just in case it wasn’t just the maid wanting in.
Slowly he crept forward as another knock sounded out, forcing him to move.
With a steady hand, he opened the wooden door, leveling a glare at the person behind it only to freeze.
There stood a small Asian woman, fierce fire burning in her grey eyes. Eyes he remembered from over three years ago.
“Sabine?”
She offered a brief smile before her face fell, “May I come in Helen?”
Wearily he stepped to the side.
Rules of the Proxies were few, and most boiled down to don’t get caught and don’t harm each other. They were allowed to drink or eat whatever they please, allowed to go to movies or musicals or bowling, allowed to sneak into concerts or clubs, allowed to mess around with whatever gender they wanted to.
Sabine had been one of those one night stands he had let himself have.
“Planning on stabbing me now that I found you again?”
He jolted staring at her with wide eyes, “What?!”
She smiled softly, “I saw the painting last time, Helen. I originally thought they were just monochrome experiments, reds and browns and how they mixed. I didn’t say anything but when the news ran the story, showing the bodies and the painting… it wasn’t hard to put together.”
Helen frowned, eyes going blank, “Why are you here Sabine?”
“I needed to talk to you,” was the short answer, but she didn’t even blink when he raised his blade towards her face.
“Told the cops then?” He asked, letting the knife brush against her collarbone, “Here to get me to turn myself in?”
“No,” She answered shortly, “But I do need to show you something.”
“If you’re planning to kill me, I have to warn you I’m not exactly human,”
She snorted, “No, really? I’ve seen the footage, you’re too strong, too fast, too durable to be human. No, I’m not here to kill you, Helen. Can I show it to you without getting my throat slit?”
He considered her for a second, but that fierce determination did not fade, didn’t even flicker when held against his icy stare. Finally, he relented taking a step back causing her to smile softly as if he hadn’t just had a blade to her neck.
“Thank you,” She whispered, reaching into her purse, “I’m a mother now, to a beautiful baby girl, I named her Huì Xuè (绘 血).”
“Why tell me this?” He questioned cocking his head to the side, “What do you want to tell me?”
“She’s turning three in July,” She said, holding out a picture, “We met at the end of September.”
He looked and saw a little girl beaming up at him, black hair pulled into twin braids, bright blue eyes twinkling at him from a freckled face.  Very familiar looking blue eyes.
“What?!” He yelped reeling back, mind spiraling. The end of September to the beginning of July, that was just around 9 months right? But… he couldn’t be a father… right?
“Don’t even ask,” Sabine cut him off, “You were the only person I was within eight months before and after I got pregnant, and there’s one more thing you should see.”
“Don’t think I can get much more shocked,” He mumbled, knife dropping to the floor.
“The painting wasn’t the only thing that told me you were the Bloody Painter,” She said flipping to the next picture, “This was a bit of a giveaway too.”
It was the mark, the mark that was burned into all of the proxies, his on his left ribs, The Operator symbol.
His daughter bore the mark, right on her hip. Only instead of a pitch-black or angry red symbol like the proxies were it was a deep burgundy, a port stain birthmark. The lines were a little less defined, more blotchy but the shape was unmistakable.
“How… She’s already his…”
“That’s what I was worried about,” She sighed, “Does this mean my daughter is going to be a proxy? A killer?”
Helen was silent, staring at the pictures.
Because he didn’t know, he didn’t think this had ever happened before, a proxy having a child with a human. Was his daughter predestined to be a killer just like him? To serve an eldritch being for all of eternity or whenever she managed to bargain for her death.
“I don’t know,” He admitted slowly, “I don’t know what it means for Huì xuè , or you as her mother, but I’ll find out.”
“Thank you,” She said once more, “I know this isn’t how you expected today to go, but I had to know, and you deserved to know you had a child out there too.”
“May I meet her?” He asked, only to feel ice gnaw at his heart as she shook her head.
“No,” She told him plainly, “Not yet at least, you’re still a killer and I don’t understand what sets you off and I’m not risking our daughter like that.”
“I’m not…” He screwed up his face, “I’m not insane and senseless when it comes to killing like some of my… coworkers. I’m logical about it, looking at the facts on if they deserve it or not. Rapists, murderers, thieves, blackmailers, bullies that relentlessly torture their victims for years, abusers, people that are considered the low of the low. Unless I’m given a job to dispose of someone that doesn’t fit in those categories I’m not going to be killing them.”
“And if your… employer,” She used his same wording, but not giving an inch, “decides that Huì Xuè is a liability that he wants disposed of? Will you kill her?”
He stiffened, hand falling to his ribs where he could almost feel the operator mark burned into his skin, a claim of loyalty.
“He’d send someone else,” He whispered, “He wouldn’t send me… because I wouldn’t be able to do it.”
“Then I’m not going to make it easy for him,” Sabine countered, “Once I know my daughter is safe, then you may meet her until then contact me through this. You won’t know where I nor our daughter is until then.”
He took the scrap of paper, a nonsensical email address staring back at him, “Okay. I’ll find out as soon as my current job is done.”
She offered a smile before hesitating, “Can I see your latest painting?”
He raised a brow and she huffed, “Yes yes, bloody painter and all of that. May I see it?”
“It’s not quite done,” He mumbled, but walked over to the covered easel and pulled off the sheet.
Half-finished lay his work, a street scene of an open-air market, the reds and browns swirling as the blood dried, one of his more intricate pieces, as he painstakingly painted out individual goods and wears on each of the 13 stalls. All he had left to do was to add in the people in the blank spaces he had left and his signature smiley face in the corner.
He looked back to a blank-faced Sabine, set shoulders and jaw, eyes gazing at it intently.
“You’re uncomfortable.”
It wasn’t a question but she answers it all the same, “Yes, but my daughter may very well be like you one day. I refuse to be scared of her or the works she makes if she follows in your footsteps, so while it is disturbing, knowing you took a life to make it, the craftsmanship and skill are undeniable. It is beautiful and that’s what I decide to see it as.”

Kagaminette/Marigami One-Shot, Takes place after Ikari Gozen
~~~
Marinette fixed the pillows on her bed, gazing around her room, now spotless from the scraps of fabric and sketches she’d had strewn about earlier. Her head turned at the ring of her phone, a text. Her breath caught and she felt her heart stutter as she scrambled to her phone. Eagerly opening the new message, a grin growing at seeing Kagami’s name at the top. Her face flushed pink at the text, like most interactions with Kagami over text the tone was serious and to the point,
“Finished training. Mother said she’ll let me sleepover. Thank you for inviting me. I can’t wait.”
           What really made Marinette’s heart melt was the emoji’s that followed, a smiley face and peace sign hand. Marinette had put a lot of effort to help Kagami grow comfortable being more casual with her, getting the other girl to use emoji’s was quite an improvement over the last few months. She quickly typed out a reply to Kagami, expressing how she was excited too along with her own set of emjoi’s. She set her phone down and sighed, flopping onto her chaise dramatically,
           “She’s actually coming tonight.” She said dreamily. It had taken a lot of work to get Kagami’s mother, Tomoe, to warm up to her. But she had approved of the girl’s friendship and allowed them to hang out regularly. Marinette actually got to sleepover at Kagami’s a few times already but having Kagami over to her house was a whole new hurdle for convincing.
Tikki flew out from where she’d been grabbing a macaroon on Marinette’s desk,
           “Oh wow, I can’t believe her mom’s letting her.” she said with a smile before taking a small bite of the macaroon.
           “I don’t know how she convinced her mom but yeah.” She said, biting her lip eagerly, making Tikki giggle
           “Good luck stumbling over yourself all night.” She teased, eating the last bit of her treat before flying up and nuzzling Marinette’s cheek. “You fall apart in front of her as badly as you do in front of Adrien.” She said with another giggle. Marinette rolled her eyes and blushed as she leaned into Tikki’s affection.
           “I-I can’t help it.” She muttered softly, she looked to the side shyly. Ever since Marinette had began spending more time with Kagami she couldn’t deny how her feelings had grown. She cared for Kagami as a friend, but their time together had allowed Marinette to see a side of Kagami she couldn’t help but fall for. When alone, Kagami’s usually stoic expression had shifted to subtly expressive and passionate. Not the stubborn, competitive passion she had with fencing. Instead it was passion for the latest book she was reading, or curiosity about Marinette’s designs and expressing herself creatively. The Kagami Marinette had slowly fallen for was who Kagami became when they were alone, unafraid of meeting her mother’s stern expectations. “She’s just… so sweet, she really cares and is always happy to try anything. She’s never afraid of anything and she’s so pretty.” Marinette gushed with a grin. Tikki giggled again and playfully flew around the other’s head,
           “You’ve really fallen for her, Marinette.” She said with a smile, tilting her head. Tikki loved seeing Marinette so happy, “You should tell her. She might feel the same.” She urged. Tikki had watched the two girls interact and had her own assumptions on how Kagami felt. Marinette’s eyes widened in horror, shaking her head dramatically and pushing Tikki away in a panicked wave of her arms,
           “Wh-what no!” she said in horror, “I can’t tell her! What if-“ before she could finish her sentence the doorbell rang making her heart race more, “Th-that’s probably her. You better hide Tikki.” She said, her face a soft pink as Tikki nodded and flew off to a hiding spot.
           Marinette hurried down to answer the door, but her mom had answered it before she could. Sabine was greeting Kagami as Marinette came down the stairs.  The polite smile on Kagami’s face grew as she looked up at Marinette and they locked eyes, throwing off any coordination Marinette had hoped to have in her feet. She tripped and stumbled down the last few steps. Falling over herself wasn’t unfamiliar to her, so Marinette was quick to stand with a blush,
           “Be careful Marinette.” Her mother said in serious concern as Kagami’s brow raised and her smile grew more. She’d grown to find Marinette’s clumsiness only slightly bothersome and more of a cute quirk.
           “I’ll make certain she gets upstairs without any new bruises Ms. Cheng. Thank you for having me over.” Kagami said in a kind voice, and a nod. “Hi Marinette.” She added looking back at her friend as she made her way to the stairs.
           “H-Hi Kagami.” She said nervously, trying to calm herself as she grinned, “Here, uhm. Let me bake your tags. Ah. No - take your bags.” She said, holding out a hand to take Kagami’s overnight bag for her. A soft chuckle fell from Kagami as she stepped closer, swinging the small bag behind her back,
           “I think you should focus on where your feet fall. I can handle my bag Marinette.” She teased, making Marinette’s heart stutter at the sight of the other’s playful smirk. She nodded jerkily and turned on her heel to lead Kagami up to her room. Now trying to pay careful attention to make sure she didn’t stumble again. Kagami followed behind her, using her free hand to press gently on the others back, wanting to make sure she really didn’t fall again.
           The sensation of Kagami’s hand on her lower back had Marinette’s face pink, and she swallowed a nervous lump in her throat.
           “H-how did you convince your mother to let you sleep over?” she asked softly, looking over her shoulder to glance at Kagami as she opened the door to their living room. Kagami walked into the room behind her with a shrug,
           “I pointed out that my test scores and training has improved since becoming friends with you. If you’re a good influence I have reason to spend more time with you. She’s making me practice extra next weekend, but it’s worth it.” She said with a smile as they continued up to Marinette’s room. Her friendship with Marinette had been one she hadn’t expected, but greatly appreciated. She had never known someone so kind and full of love. Marinette seemed to have a soft spot for everyone in her life, even those she didn’t particularly like. Her kindness was what had allowed their friendship to blossom and Kagami couldn’t help but admire how the other wore her heart on her sleeve.
           Kagami knew better than to lie to herself. She had slowly grown to have feelings for Marinette over the months of their friendship. The other’s devotion to her art and friends, her awkward stumbling, and her warmth to let Kagami open up in a way she couldn’t at home or school had led to butterflies in Kagami’s stomach.
           “Is that true? Have you been improving since we started hanging out?” Marinette asked curiously, letting Kagami up into her room. The thought that she could be such a positive influence in the other made her heart swell.
           “If it wasn’t, I wouldn’t be here. You know my mother. She’s all about the numbers and seeing actual improvement.” Kagami said as she looked around the vaguely familiar room, they’d spent little time hanging out together here – most of their time was at her house or public spaces. She made her way to the chaise and set her bag down beside it. “Enough about my mother and school though. Where’s that game you were wanting to have me play?” she asked with a smile and raised brow.
           Marinette felt like she was as light as a feather, hearing Kagami confirm their friendship had noticeable good impact on her – a fact that might lead to more sleepovers – made her stomach do flips and breath catch. She was shaken out of her eager thoughts at Kagami’s question,
           “Oh. Yeah! Ultimate Mecha Strike III.” She said with a grin, grabbing the game off her desk and holding it up. “It’s super fun. I’ll warn you I’m  really good at it. I even won a competition for my school.” She said proudly, this was probably one of the few things she knew she could beat Kagami at – she hoped. She did have doubts. Kagami was good at everything she did.
           Kagami laughed softly at Marinette’s bragging, sliding her white blazer off and laying it on the chaise. With a tilt of her head and raised brow, a smirk growing on her face as she loosened her tie and tossed it on top of the coat.
           “You should know by now Marinette. I don’t lose.” She said, a competitive tone in her voice. She rolled the sleeves up on her black button up. The mixture of Kagami’s smug look on her face, and her outfit adjusted to be more comfortable had Marinette weak in the knee’s. She nodded eagerly, slapping the game down onto her desk as she flopped back down onto her desk chair.
           “You’re so perfect- ah I think you’re perfect. No - You think you’re perfect. I mean you’re great! But uhm... I’ll be… better. At this game.” Marinette stuttered, her face growing red at her word vomit. Kagami laughed softly, brushing her hair out of her face as she made her way to sit in the other desk chair beside Marinette.
           “How are you going to beat me if you can’t even trash talk me Marinette?” she teased. Kagami had noticed how Marinette stumbled over herself in front of her. The soft blush that constantly covered her face the more they spent time together. She had only seen Marinette get this way before with one person, and it made her stomach do flips to think that she effected Marinette the same way Adrien did. Marinette stumbled to turn the game on, grabbing the controllers and holding one out to Kagami. In return Kagami made sure to let her fingers brush over Marinette’s hand as she grabbed the game controller.
           Marinette held back the urge to melt into a puddle or scream at the gentle touch of Kagami’s hand. She nodded shakily, and turned to stare at the screen,
           “I don’t need to talk to beat you.” She sassed back, unable to look back at Kagami in fear of word vomiting again and making a fool of herself. She started the game and took a few minutes to explain the basic controls and goals of it to Kagami. Kagami’s eyes bounced back and forth between the screen and Marinette’s face. A small smile grew on her face as she listened and watched Marinette, her pigtails bouncing as she turned her head to look at Kagami once she finished explaining the basics. A soft blush covered both girls faces as they locked eyes, “Uhm… D-does that make sense?” Marinette asked softly. Kagami nodded gently, turning back to the screen,
           “Yeah. Let’s play.” She said, hitting the start button.
           It didn’t take long for Kagami to get frustrated at the videogame. She was surprisingly good for a new player. Her skill impressed Marinette and was just further evidence to her that Kagami was amazing. But still, despite Kagami’s natural skill, it was nothing compared to Marinette’s years of playing with her father. Round after round Marinette mopped the floor with Kagami in the game. Kagami’s face was a soft red in frustration. She was not used to losing, and it rubbed her the wrong way when she did. Marinette raised a brow in concern when she looked over to see how upset Kagami was getting. Hitting the pause button on her controller put the game they’d been playing on hold,
           “No. What are you doing? Why’d you pause it?” she asked, her brows furrowing as she turned to Marinette. The sight of the other’s concern made her slightly embarrassed at how upset she was. “I-Im sorry. I got.. uhm too invested-“
           “Don’t be sorry.” Marinette interrupted her with a soft smile, the last thing she wanted was Kagami to think she couldn’t express her feelings to her, “It’s alright to be upset. But it’s just a game.” She said with a shrug, “Besides, you’re really good for a beginner.” She complimented, setting her hand on Kagami’s knee and giving her a light squeeze to reassure her. “And we both know you’re great at so many other things, like fencing.” She added with a smile.
           Kagami’s blush grew, no longer from frustration but now because of Marinette’s kind words. She smiled and brushed her hair behind her ear,
           “You’re right. I’d destroy you at fencing.” She teased Marinette, a small chuckle falling from her. Marinette raised a brow with a mock offended scoff,
           “I wouldn’t say you’d destroy me…” she argued as she crossed her arms over her chest. Kagami chuckled softly, and in one swift movement she turned in her chair setting her controller down on the desk as and grabbing a flexible ruler by Marinette’s craft materials. In the same fluid twist of the chair that let her change objects in hand, she was able to finish the 360-rotation facing Marinette, ruler in hand and pressing it up under Marinette’s chin with a smirk. Marinette’s face flushed pink at the ruler pressing against her chin, making her tilt her head back slightly, the confident smirk and glint in Kagami’s eyes had her speechless,
           “Let’s find out?” she challenged. All Marinette could do to communicate was nod gently, feeling the ruler press against her chin with the movement. Kagami lowered the ruler and grinned, standing and moving to stand in the open floor of Marinette’s room. She knew realistically the rulers were much too short to even consider whatever this was fencing, but she didn’t care. She just wanted to have fun with Marinette, make her laugh and impress her. Marinette found her own ruler, trying desperately to break herself out of the daze she’d been put in by Kagami.
Marinette stood a few paces away from Kagami, taking the stance she’d learned from Adrien, ruler in hand. This moment felt vaguely familiar, the thumping in her chest, her sweaty hands and face pink with nervousness the anxiousness to impress her crush standing in front of her but also being hyper aware of her body, not wanting to stumble or trip.
“En-garde.” Kagami said, and the two girls greeted each other with the rulers. Smiles and blushes covering both their faces, “Pret. Allez.” And with that they were off. Kagami was more confident in her movement, lunging for Marinette and expecting an easy win. She was shocked to find Marinette shifting and parrying her, nonetheless it still wasn’t difficult for Kagami to tap Marinette in the chest with the ruler after making her parry a few more lunges. The two laughed softly as they both returned to their starting positions. Once again, Kagami was first to move. Marinette doing well in defensive maneuver, her downfall was when she attempted to get a hit in after parrying Kagami. With a swift move of her hand Kagami was able to parry Marinette and tap her chest again. Kagami’s grin had Marinette’s stomach doing flips, “Don’t hesitate Marinette. Trust your instincts.” She instructed sweetly, a tone of voice that wasn’t heard often from Kagami but made Marinette into mush more than she already was.
The two returned to their starting positions and began again. Kagami waited a moment, wanting to give Marinette a chance to initiate, but after a few seconds she knew the girl wouldn’t. So, she lunged again, Marinette was thrown off more with this round than she had been the others. Kagami’s soft tone making her head dizzy, the words ringing a distant memory for her. Marinette found herself avoiding and parrying Kagami just barely, and in her daze as she stepped back to avoid Kagami she tripped over her own feet. Her hand reaching out instinctively to prevent herself from falling back, but only managing to grab Kagami’s shirt. Effectively bringing both girls down.
They fell back onto Marinette’s floor with a thud, Kagami on top of Marinette, both blushing furiously at their new position. Marinette attempted to stutter out an apology, only to be interrupted by Kagami’s laughter as she rolled off Marinette.
“I’ve not had that much fun fencing in a long time.” She said between laughter, tears of joy welling in her eyes. She wiped them away and giggled softly and Marinette couldn’t help but laugh with her. The sight of Kagami laid back on her floor, hair a short halo around her and her shirt wrinkled, the edges untucked from her skirt and hearing her laughter ring in the air. It was all too much for Marinette, her tongue was tied, and stomach was full of butterflies. As Kagami stood up and held out a hand to help Marinette up she felt déjà vu again. As she took Kagami’s hand and stood slowly she realized why Kagami’s earlier words and this moment were familiar, “The only reason you can't stay on your feet is your hesitation. I never hesitate.” The voice echoed in Marinette’s mind, Kagami’s words.
A wave of bravery she only ever felt as ladybug filled Marinette, determination and pure adrenaline filling her as she stood. Tightening her hold on Kagami’s hand once she was up. Marinette pulled Kagami closer to her, not wanting to lose this moment of bravery she felt in herself and doing as Kagami had told her to – following her instincts. Her free hand laying gently on Kagami’s chest as she leaned into the other girl and kissed her. Both Kagami and Marinette’s faces grew pink as they kissed. The meeting of their lips only lasting less than a second before they broke apart. Marinette’s hands flew to cover her pink face in embarrassment,
“Ah! I-I’m sorry.. I-I didn’t want to kiss you! No. I did. I mean to. I didn’t. I-“ Once again Marinette’s flustered words were cut off my Kagami’s giggles. Kagami gently pried Marinette’s hands from her face, the sweet smile on Kagami’s face making Marinette’s panic pause for a moment,
“Don’t be sorry.” She mumbled, “I told you to stop hesitating. And you did.” She said, breathlessly – part of Kagami was still in shock that Marinette had kissed her. Her heart was racing, and her legs felt like they were static, she’d never kissed anyone before. “Even I was hesitating with… that.” she admitted softly. Her eyes darting away shyly, Marinette’s face went from embarrassment to shy concern and then to shock at Kagami’s words,
“Like. That. That? You… like me?” she asked, looking like a deer in headlights, her eyes wide as she tried to process the information. At the blush that darkened on Kagami’s face Marinette got her answer, giving her the confidence to lean in and kiss Kagami’s cheek. Taking the other girls hands Marinette led Kagami over to her chaise and sat beside her. Unable to help herself as she grinned like a fool, “Because, I’ve had the biggest crush on you for a while now.” She admitted with a soft giggle. Kagami giggled softly, her blush only darkening more as she brushed her hair behind her face,
“How could I not have a crush on the prettiest, nicest girl I’ve ever met.” She said softly, she slid her hand over the chair to lay on top of Marinette’s. She wasn’t used to admitting her feelings like this. Hearing Marinette’s own confession had made it easier for Kagami to open up.
Both girl’s hearts were racing as they giggled together, telling one another about how their crushes had grown and slowly shifting so they were cuddling together on the chaise. Hands caressing each other’s or playing with the other’s hair as they spoke. A few shy kisses being shared between stories told. The two stayed up late into the night laughing at themselves, a light airy feeling in their hearts as they gushed over one another until a serious look washed over Kagami’s face. Marinette looked up at Kagami as she felt her hands still in her hair that she’d been raking through, hair ties that once held her hair into twin pigtails dropped to the floor.
“Will you be my girlfriend?” Kagami asked Marinette softly, locking eyes with her. Marinette grinned and leaned up to kiss Kagami,
“Of course.” She said with a giggle, her lips brushing against Kagami’s before she kissed her again.
Part One  | My Masterlist
Tumblr media
Your phone vibrates where it lies next to you on the couch, carelessly thrown when you got home. It’s a text, or more a reply to the smiley you sent that morning to let the stranger on the tube know you got his note.
It bubbles lightly in your stomach and a smile grows on your lips. However, not sure how to reply, you put it back down and let your attention follow to where it had been. The TV plays an episode of The Big Bang Theory. You didn’t really follow it when it first came on, but now, your mind travels to another place entirely.
Last night’s tube ride had, after all, been very different from the usual. But it had been nice, way too nice. The disappointment in not seeing him on the tube ride home today is still at the bottom of your gut. There’s just something about him, something about the way he held onto you, made you feel safe. It’s unlike anything you have ever felt before.
Your phone starts ringing, the vibration affecting the couch and making an annoying sound that scares you enough to jump. You take it up and see the name flash. Stranger From The Tube
Something stirs in your gut as you stare at the screen. The smile you had grows wider, and you shake your head before you slide it and answer. You carefully put the phone to your ear, and say a small ‘hi’.
“Hi,” comes from the other line. A voice as soothing as when you first heard it. “It’s Tom,” he adds.
You chuckle. “I saw that.” You bite down on your lip, trying to keep from saying something stupid. “Why did you call?”
He lets out a sigh, a huff more like it, with a small ‘hehe’ laugh. “I’m not sure, to be honest.” The line goes quiet. You can hear his breathing on the other side, and just that has the hairs on your neck stand. “I guess I couldn’t… I couldn’t wait to talk to you.”
“Yeah,” you say, “we didn’t really get to talk before.”
“Not with you half asleep on my shoulder, no,” he says and chuckles. “Do you maybe want to go out for a drink? Tomorrow night?”
Your words get stuck in your throat. How do you say yes without sounding like you couldn’t wait? Without feeling like you sound desperate (to be honest, you are kind of touch starved)?
“Or does that not work?” His voice sounds smaller, insecure.
“No, no, no,” you hurry, “it works great.” A mental reprimand to not use too long to answer, flies through your head. “I… I was just thinking, uh, that the night is…” You purse your lips. “... still young.”
You pinch your eyes shut. Your heartbeat loud in your ears and your breathing gone because, god you just proposed that, and you don’t know if you can breathe before you hear his answer.
“Oh,” he says, “sound great. Meet at your tube stop in an hour?”
You nod furiously, biting your lips to keep from squealing. Only to realize this is a phone conversation and he can’t see you. You take a deep breath. “Yeah, that sound lovely. See you in an hour?”
“See you in an hour.” The line clicks and the conversation is over.
If he could see you now, the big smile on your face and knew how hot you felt, he would cancel. You’re sure of it, but instead of pondering whether or not he actually likes you, you rush out of the couch, turn off the TV and get to the bathroom.
Before going out, there are some things that need to be done.
Shower. You strip out of your clothes and take a quick shower. Every bit of you is cleaned, and despite knowing time is short, you still take the time to shave. You’re not even contemplating not doing so.
Make-up. Most of the time, make-up isn’t that important. Some mascara goes a long way, and you don’t use much more now either. You use some eyeshadow, a natural matte nude palette that blends in with your skin tone. You pair it with some mascara and eyeliner, making your eyes pop. And as a final touch, you find your favorite red lipstick and apply it. Happy with how you look, you move on to the next step.
Clothes. What the hell are you supposed to wear? The make-up alone is much, but also kind of natural and toned down. How do you pair that with something cute, yet showing you want to get to know this guy? In the end, you pick a black button down dress that ties around the waist, and even though it fits rather loosely, shows off your figure. You’d recently bought it as something casual you could wear to a birthday party, and this is the first time you get to use it. Studying yourself in the long mirror in your bedroom, you have no problem thinking you look cute.
Shoes. The dress being casual, and the knowing that’ll you’ll walk and probably stand, calls for something else than high heels. So, going rather tomboy-ish, you pair it with a pair of flat, black sneakers that match the dress. The soles are white and gives some color to the otherwise black outfit.
Hair. And the best for last, you style your hair. You let it fall naturally, spray it to get some style in it, and when you’re happy with the look, you smile at yourself in the mirror.
Seeing the clock, you have about two minutes before the hour is up. You search around your apartment for a little purse to go with the outfit, trying desperately to find something small yet able to have a phone, keys and wallet. It takes two minutes, but you finally find a black one that you’re happy with. One last look in the mirror, you smile happily and get out.
It’s fortunate it takes about five minutes to walk, because if it took more, you’d be a lot more late than you want to. Five minutes is within reasonable time, especially for a spontaneous ...date?
You get to the tube station and look around. The man you’re meeting stands off to the side of the entrance. Seeing him, you get even happier with what you picked out. He wears a pair of black jeans, tucked in is black shirt that clings to his body and the arms are rolled up to his elbows, and a jacket slung over his arm. You hadn’t even thought of taking with you a jacket. Maybe if you get cold, he’ll let you borrow his.
With light, nervous steps you walk towards him. A nervous purse of your lips as you stop and say hi. He smiles, but doesn’t say anything. Instead, he’s eyes study you from top to toe. It lingers a little on your lips, his tongue just out for a second, before he finds your eyes. Every part of your body feels like it’s on fire.
“Hi,” he breathes. “You look… wonderful.”
Your gut churns and you resist the urge to bite your lips. “Thanks,” you say. “You don’t look so bad yourself.”
His smile widens, and he offers his arm. “Shall we walk?”
You nod, and take the arm he offers. The touch of his skin against yours is pleasant, a slight burn that traces its way up to your neck and down your spine. The chill air helps, as you would rather not start to sweat. Yet, at least.
The two of you walk in silence, steering into the tube and getting ready to fine one that gets you to the city centre. In little time, you step off and walk into the city night. You’ve let go of Tom’s arm, but you still walk close. Every once in a while, your hands brush and a shot of electricity courses through you.
“Where would you like to go?” asks Tom. He casts a glance your way.
You tilt your head up to glance at him, and catching his stare, you divert it back down and purse your lips. Why is your heart beating so fast? “Uhh, I don’t… I don’t have any…”
“Any preference?” he asks.
You nod, a blush creeping its way into your cheeks. The heat feels like too much, especially mixed with the constant heat of your skin whenever you accidentally touch.
He smiles and lets out a small laugh. “What about…” He looks around and his eyes land on a place. “...there?” A long finger points at it.
“Sound nice,” you reply.
--
11.38 PM
“No way, really?”
“Yeah, really. I don’t know why, but he did that.”
“Oh, but you did that other thing, right?”
“Shh, we don’t talk about that.”
“Of course we don’t. You wouldn’t do anything stupid, would you?”
“Fuck off.”
--
12.52 AM
“A hat? She got upset for a hat?”
“Oh, yeah, I can’t say why, but the hat meant something.”
“The hat meant something. What did it mean? That it was supposed to be on her head?”
Laughter. “No, apparently, it meant to be in the sea.”
--
02.23 AM
“What? You don’t want to dance?”
“No, that’s not really my thing.”
“What is your thing?”
“Talking. Getting to know someone. Laughing.”
“Those are some great things.”
“Yeah, it’s that and being awkward.”
Laughter.
“You’re not awkward.”
“Oh, sure, because I know how to speak. Yeah.”
“You haven’t been awkward the times I’ve met you.”
“You met me exhausted on a tube where I literally sat on you, and today, where I’ve gotten alcohol.”
“There was no alcohol for four hours ago.”
“No, but there was no conversation either.”
“That’s not a criteria for something to not be awkward.”
“Well, I am, deal with it.”
“Now, what you do have is attitude. Not in a bad way.”
--
04.12 AM
You fiddle with the keys for a moment before the apartment becomes unlocked. Inside, you take off your shoes and lay down your little purse on your coffee table. Tom follows right behind, taking off his shoes and hanging his jacket on the coat stand.
“You want something to drink?” you ask and take a wine bottle out of the fridge. Before he’s even answered, you set down two glasses on the counter.
Tom comes into the kitchen. He leans against the counter, “that would be lovely.” His gaze travels over you as you pour the glasses, and you shiver at the feeling. As with the whole night, your body responds to how he acts, how he speaks, and you love every minute of it.
“Here,” you say and hand him one of the glasses. He takes it and your fingers graze, sending your heart into overdrive and setting your skin on fire.
You move to the living room, and you sit down on the couch, tucking your feet underneath you―making sure your dress covers you and doesn’t show anything you don’t want shown. Tom sits down close by, his knee touches yours. Neither of you pull away from the touch.
“What were we talking about again?” you ask him.
He chuckles lightly. “About my work, I think.”
You nod. “Yeah. An actor and a pretty famous one, too.” Something flickers in his eyes, but you don’t catch what it is. “How is that?”
“Exciting. Tiring. And every bit as fun as when I started out.” Tom smiles, it grows fond as he talks. Fonder and fonder as he retells stories, and talk about the friends he’s made. You listen intently as he speaks. Eyes flicker between his lips and his blue-green eyes that burn with a passion.
The night continues. You talk about everything, about nothing. Stories from your childhood, stories from now. Those little details. Those small things that mean something.
And suddenly, the night is over.
The clock reads eight AM. Tom chuckles at it and stands up. You follow him to the door, lean against the wall as he puts on his shoes and grabs his jacket.
“I had a great time.” He balances back and forth on his feet and puts his hands in his pockets as you stop leaning, a smile on his face that you return without hesitation.
“Yeah, me too.” You bite your lip and look down on the floor, on your feet. You glance back up at him. “We should do it again sometime.”
He nods. “We should.”
Neither of you say anything. He moves to the door and turns the lock. Tom looks back at you and you smile at him. Your gazes lock. His flicker down to your lips, his tongue takes a quick trip out. You smile, wanting him to take that step.
“Bye,” he says and opens the door.
You move to close it as he walks out. “Bye,” you say. Your heart pounds in your chest, nervousness courses through your veins and hope keeps you from uttering more words (or sounds) than you want.
He lingers in the doorway. You’re closer now, closer than the moment before. Your heartbeat pulses inside your head, your throat feels tight. Just lean in, it’s not that hard. But you don’t move.
Neither does he. Instead you stare at each other, both lick your lips.
“You have my number,” you say, and tiptoe up to kiss his cheek.
He nods. “I do.” And with a smile, he walks away.
You look after him. Your pounding heart not slowing down, and your brain telling you to run after and kiss him. On the lips. But you don’t. You watch as he turns smaller, and you feel the butterflies in your gut. And you know, with a hundred percent certainty, that you’ve met the love of your life.
How to Win a Guy in 30 Days CH2
Here’s more of this! Halfway through it now~ I’m running out of days in April ugh
Read on AO3
Chapter 2
“So, what exactly does this have to do with you two getting together? You’re still only friends,” Emma said, placing her hands on her hips and snapping her mother out of her dream-like state.
“Patience, I’m getting there,” Marinette chided, and Emma slumped a little with a sigh.
- - -
That afternoon, Adrien paid the bakery a visit looking for Marinette, much to Tom and Sabine’s delight.
“Oh, she’s just upstairs, I’ll go get her!” Sabine offered, but Adrien held up a hand.
“Actually, I was hoping to hang out and do some homework together if that’s okay,” he said, curling his shoulders a little.
“Of course, it is! You can even stay for dinner you’d like,” Tom said with a wide grin, and Adrien perked up.
“Thank you, Mr. Dupain,” he said politely as Tom tossed some cookies onto a plate.
“Here, take these as a snack,” he insisted, shoving the plate into Adrien’s hands. “Marinette should be in the living room.”
“Thanks so much. You guys are awesome,” Adrien waved over his shoulder as he made his way up the stairs, and Tom placed his arm around his wife as they both sighed contently.
Marinette was brewing tea when Adrien knocked on the door, and she felt her heart jump up to her throat when she opened it.
“A-A-Adrien?” She panicked, cupping her face.
“Hello,” he chuckled. “I wanted to say thanks for earlier and hang out for a while. You and I only ever seem to spend time together when we’re in crazy situations, so I wanted to have a normal day for a change.”
“You want to hang out? With me? Right now?”
“If that’s okay,” he bit his lip, and a giddy grin spread across her lips.
“Yes! It’s totally okay. More than okay. It’s awesome. Perfect. Like you! I mean- achoo! My allergies are bad today, um, come in,” she stepped aside and gestured awkwardly for him to enter.
“Your dad sent up some cookies. They smell amazing,” he said, pacing over to set them on the table. “I actually have a big sweet tooth. Just don’t tell my dad.”
Marinette smiled politely before frantically texting the girls the moment he turned his back.
Adrien came over to hang out. Help!
“Would you like some tea?” She offered, stalling.
“I’d love some. Thanks,” he smiled, setting his bag down and digging out his homework.
Her phone buzzed in her pocket as she added more water to the kettle.
Now’s your chance! Tell him how you feel. Alya urged.
Yeah, don’t chicken out. Alix added.
Remember to breathe! Mylene said with a smiley face.
Yeah, don’t pass out. Juleka advised.
You can do it, Marinette! Rose cheered, and Marinette pocketed her phone and took a deep breath.
“What about you, Marinette?” Adrien started, biting into a cookie. “Do you have any secrets?”
“Well, actually,” she said, cheeks pink. “I’m in love with…a guy.”
“Oh,” Adrien’s eyebrows raised before a knowing smile curled on his lips. “Do I know him?”
“Uh, kinda,” she rubbed her arm.
“What’s his name?” Adrien urged, and she bit her lip, sitting down awkwardly. “You’d rather no say. I understand. Although, if you tell me, I can totally help you.”
“It’s…complicated,” she said, twiddling her thumbs.
“Well, tell me about him at least,” Adrien said, nudging her slightly.
“He’s…really nice and smart, and he’s got the most gorgeous green eyes, silky blond hair…He’s really athletic and super popular.”
“He sounds awesome,” Adrien leaned against his fist. “You deserve someone awesome, Marinette. I hope you can find someone who makes you happy.”
Marinette bit her tongue, holding back her simple declaration. It’s you. The boy she was in love with was sitting in front of her none the wiser, and his obliviousness shot a hole through her moxie.
“Wanna work on physics first?”
“Uh, sure…”
- - -
“Wait, are you serious?” Emma’s eyes narrowed. “He really didn’t connect the dots?”
“Nope.”
“But you practically told him! How could he be so blind!” Emma shouted, waving her arms in exasperation.
“Men don’t notice subtlety, sweetie. They’re all as dense as doorknobs which is why I needed to up my game because someone much more direct was also vying for your father’s attention at the time.”
- - -
“Let’s review, shall we?” Marinette tapped the meter stick against her palm. “Adrien’s photoshoot is located here, so we have to set up over here if we want him to see us.”
“You mean see you?” Alix quirked a brow.
“Exactly,” Marinette nodded.
“Since we’re all friends, it’ll be totally normal to ask Adrien to hang out with us on the beach after he’s done,” Alya said, casting Marinette a pointed look. “Nothing to freak out over.”
Marinette offered up a sheepish grin before they all stuck their hands in for a group cheer and set off to work. Marinette had designed the perfect swimsuit for the occasion, and Adrien was bound to notice her.
The beach was crowded, but the girls split up on different routes to increase their chances of scoring the perfect spot. Marinette stood on her tip toes in an attempt to see over the wall of people in front of her when her phone buzzed.
“Girl, where are you? We landed the spot,” Alya said.
“Yeah, and there’s a problem,” Alix added, and Marinette’s eyebrows furrowed.
“A problem?”
“Kind of a minor hiccup, really,” Alya winced.
“What’s going on?” Marinette demanded as the crowd in front of her began to clear.
“Well,” Alya drawled as Marinette finally spotted them, glancing just beyond to see a familiar mop of dark silky hair that made her stomach drop.
“Kagami’s here,” Alix said as Marinette watched her recline in a beach chair with big sunglasses directly in Adrien’s line of sight.
“We need a new plan,” Alya said when Marinette made it over to them. “What if we distract Kagami and then you ask Adrien to go get ice cream with you up the beach?”
“No, I don’t want to be underhanded about this,” Marinette said, shoulders slumping. “Maybe this is a sign. I mean, if Adrien really wanted me then I wouldn’t have to fight her for him, right?”
The girls exchanged worried glances, but Marinette set her bag down decidedly.
“Come on. Let’s just go enjoy our day at the beach,” she insisted, putting on a smile.
“Okay, if you’re sure, girl,” Alya said, placing a hand on her shoulder.
“Let’s go play volleyball. Maybe you can take some of your emotions out on the ball,” Mylene suggested.
“Kay,” Marinette smiled, allowing her friends to whisk her away, refusing to let herself look over at Adrien or Kagami. She would focus on enjoying the day with her friends instead. Anything else just led to heartache.
“But wait, I thought you said you needed to try harder. You sound like you’re giving up!” Emma said, placing her hands on her hips.
“Patience,” Marinette reminded with a warning lilt, and Emma sighed, waving for her to continue.
“Everything changed when your father approached us with Kagami…”
“Hey, girls,” Adrien greeted with a smile. “Got room for two more?”
The girls all looked to Marinette who plastered a smile over her wince.
“Of course,” she nodded, and Alya shot her a worried look. “It’s fine. No worries.”
“Great!” Adrien perked up, and Kagami shot Marinette a pointed look as she linked her arm through his.
“You’ll play on my team, Adrien,” she said, and Marinette bit her lip as Kagami kept a smug gaze on her.
“Dang she’s ruthless,” Alix grumbled as they huddled together.
“How you doing, Marinette?” Mylene asked, and Marinette pressed her lips into a firm line.
“I changed my mind. Kagami wants a competition, so she’s gonna get one,” Marinette said much to the surprise of her friends.
“Get it, girl!” Alya high-fived her.
“We got your back,” Alix nodded in agreement.
Marinette locked eyes with Kagami as Alya served the ball, a sense of determination setting in. If Ladybug could do it, why couldn’t Marinette? Kagami may be more athletic than her, but she could at least prove that she wouldn’t be taken down so easily.
The first point Marinette scored on Kagami brought a new fire to her rival’s eyes that told Marinette she wouldn’t be underestimated again. They remained locked in a silent battle, leaping to spike the ball on the other all while Adrien played along completely oblivious to the war raging over him.
Kagami scored a spike on Marinette, and Adrien offered her a high five as Marinette crashed to the ground, her ankle giving out and toppling her over. Pain surged up her leg, and she clutched her ankle with a whimper.
“M, you okay?” Alya asked as her team rushed to her side. “Your ankle’s already swelling. Let’s get some ice.”
Adrien noticed her plight and rushed to her side immediately, not paying Kagami a second thought.
“Are you okay, Marinette?” His eyebrows creased with worry as he gently pushed her hands aside to examine the damage.
“I’m fine. I just landed on it wrong,” she insisted, but Adrien shook his head.
“You should stay off of it. Come on,” he said, and Marinette would remember his next move for the rest of her life.
His arms snaked behind her back and under her knees, and before she could process, she was in his arms. Cheeks red, she awkwardly scrambled to link her arms around his neck as he carried her back to their set up. She felt like a princess being carried by her prince, and nothing else mattered in that moment.
“You should prop your foot up,” he suggested, reaching for her beach bag and setting it under her foot.
“I got some ice,” Alya approached, holding up a bag.
“Awesome. Thanks, Alya,” Adrien said, and Marinette squirmed a little under the cool touch of the ice.
“I’m sorry,” Marinette said, curling her shoulders. “I’m so clumsy.”
“Don’t worry about it, Marinette. I get sports injuries all the time,” Adrien assured her. “You were really awesome out there. I didn’t know you were so good at volleyball.”
“I feel like I ruined everyone’s day,” she said, and Alya flicked her nose.
“You didn’t ruin anything except your ankle. The girls and I will bring you some ice cream in a bit then we’ll lay out and work on our tan, okay?”
“Okay,” Marinette clasped her hands together between her thighs as Alya left to join the others.
“Do you need anything?” Adrien offered, and Marinette bit her lip.
“I don’t want to trouble you anymore,” she said, flicking her gaze to her lap.
“It’s no trouble at all, Marinette,” he smiled, and she searched his warm expression before reaching out to take his wrist.
“Then I have a favor that only you can do for me,” she said a bit timidly, but Adrien quirked an encouraging brow. “Will you keep me company?”
“Of course,” he chuckled, reaching for his bag and digging out his towel which he laid out next to hers before sitting down. “I know what it’s like to be alone, and it’s not fun, so I’ll stay with you for the rest of the day if you want.”
“Thanks, Adrien,” she smiled, cupping her cheek to hide her blush.
“You’re welcome, Marinette.”
