Yongguks POV

This is pure torture. I can hear her every now and then, but I can’ move my body. I can hear her talk to me. She sounds so scared and fragile and I just want to wake up and take her into my arms, but I can’t. She tells me how she fell in love with me. Her first impression of me, how she used to be scared of me, and at first my heart falls in fear. I don’t think that she realizes that the heart monitor picked up speed when she says she was scared of me, but when she tells me that she fell in love with me just a few weeks later it calms down again. Her skin on mine is so soft. I miss her touching me, her lips on mine. I just want to wake up and hold her again. Apologize and never leave her side again.

She tells me that she was scared I’d stop loving her and if I swear, if I were conscious I’d probably stop breathing. My love just grows stronger every second she’s with me. Himchan comes in and tells her that he’s going to teach her how to take care of me and my first reaction is that I want to stop him. I don’t want her to watch me and the others get injured. I don’t want her to get hurt. I now know what people mean when they say that a person is their everything, because she is mine. She agrees and he starts teaching her just a day later. I immediately recognize that its her who changes my bandages, not Himchan, and when I hear a low chuckle, I realize that he notices too. My heartbeat monitor picked up speed – not a lot, but noticeably.

But Y/n isn’t the only person I can hear. Zelo comes in every now and then. He talks to be about his day and about what happened. He told me that they killed the leader of Black Widow and took a few of their members’ captive. He tells me about a young girl, a child, they had their. Y/N has been really protective of her and has been taking care of her whenever she’s not with me or Himchan. Y/N told him that the child brought her food and that she is probably the only reason why she’s still alive –She didn’t want to leave the child alone. I make a mental note to thank her if I ever get to see her. That poor kid must have been through a lot and I want to make her live better. Maybe we’ll be able to find her parents.

Youngjae, Daehyun and Jongup often visit me together. They’re always with Y/N, since Zelo instructed them not to leave her alone. They barely speak, most of the time they tell me to wake up.

It must have been at least three weeks when I first open my eyes. Y/N has been telling me about her day, about how she learned how to draw blood correctly and that she was able to do that on another member. “That sounds amazing babe!” It’s only a whisper and my voice is so goddamn hoarse that she almost missed it but she heard it. “Yongguk! You’re awake” I look at her for a second but soon my eyes flutter shut again. And I fall back into darkness.

Over the next week I fall in and out of consciousness. Sometimes, Y/N is by my side, sometimes Himchan is by my side and once, Zelo was there. Today is the first time I am actually able to do something more than saying a few words. My eyes open and I see Y/N by my side. I carefully raise my hand and see the needle in it and flinch. I hate needles. Y/N is in a comfortable chair right next to the bed, her head is on the hospital bed and she is fast asleep. I raise my hand to touch her hair and she wakes up immediately. “Yongguk!” Her eyes are shining and I smile at her. “Y/N.” Her name leaves my lips and she smiles. “Thank god you’re awake” she brushes a strand of hair away and smiles at me. “What’s today’s date?” I see her smile sink and my heart speeds up. “It’s 17th October.” Her voice is a whisper “I’ve been asleep for more than a month?” I swallow. I left her alone for more than a month. “Don`t worry. Zelo took good care of everything.” She stands up and touches my hand. “I’ll get Himchan to take a look at you.” She leaves the room and I can hear her sob on the other side of the door.

She doesn’t return when Himchan enters the room.

Y/N POV

You avoid Yongguk for the next few days. It’s not like you don’t care about him. You want to be with him more than anything, but you don’t know what will happen between the two of you and you need to sort out my emotions first. You spend most of my time in Melodies room. She’s the young girl they found in black widows hide out. She does not remember her name, so you named her Melody. Her room is white and has many toys in there. The others have been trying to gain her trust. You see the Barbie doll Daehyun gave her, The Nintendo Zelo gave her. She even has a hamster. Unfortunately she doesn’t trust anyone but you. She doesn’t trust men in general.

It’s been 6 days since you’ve last seen Yongguk and right now you’re sitting in Melodies room, brushing her golden locks. You had to cut most of it unfortunately, but now it’s healthy and soft. “Y/N?” Her small voice is a whisper. You realized a few days ago that they probably kidnapped her as a child. She speaks perfect Korean but she told you that she remembers some French. “Yeah sweetheart?” you start braiding her hair. “Who’s the man that carried you out of your cell?” She was in the room when Yongguk got shot. “He’s someone I love quite a lot.” you admit and she turns around, ruining the braid. “Are you boyfriend and girlfriend?” You giggle and carefully tug on a strand of her hair. “We were. But He had no time for me. So I left and that’s how I met you.” you brush her cheek. She’s like a little sister to you and you want her to be more comfortable around the others. Someone clears their throat and you turn around to see Yongguk standing there. He’s on crutches and has lost a visible amount of weight. Your heart aches. “Who’s your pretty friend over there, Y/N?”His voice is soft when he says your name. Melody jumps up and hides behind you. “That’s Melody.” you reply and lift the girl up into your arms. She’s heavy for you, but still too light for her age. “Don’t worry Melody. He won’t hurt you.” Yongguk looks at you and you would give everything to know what’s inside his head. “I won’t.” he comes over and Melody hides her face inside the crook of your neck. “Don’t be scared Melody. He’s nice. Really. His voice might sound scary but he really isn’t.” She looks at Yongguk and he pouts a bit. Your heart goes crazy and you watch her lean over to Yongguk. He takes her into his arms despite his crutches and she cuddles into him. He’s shaking because of the weight and you inch closer to him. He must have lost a lot of muscle mass and he’s still weak. “Yongguk. Set her down.” Your voice is soft and he shakes his head and watches her play with his hair. It has grown quite long but you still like it. You like him. No fuck that. You love him. “No we’re having such a good time. Right Melody?” She nods and you love how she trusts him immediately. You imagine having children with him. The way he would hold your child, but you realize that there might never be a thing like that. That children may never be in the picture. “Yongguk set her down. You just woke up.” You scold and he sighs and sets her down. “Melody Y/N and I will now go outside and talk, but we’ll be back really soon, okay?” He tells her in a soft voice and she nods. He gestures to the door with his head and you follow him silently, the door clicking shut behind you. “What is it you want to talk about?”

“Us. I need to save this. Save us.”

Song of the Week

I’m still replaying Favorite Boys and Made For Two, so that’s a thing.

Honorable Mentions:

For an interesting indie pick this week, Seoul Music has a lot of options. My favorite is Are You A Singer from YeSLow, which makes some interesting choices, and mixes vocals and rap well.

XUM’s debut is interesting, which is fitting for a group with some oddities. For one, the age range on the group is 7 years, which is pretty big for a girl group. They also all at least auditioned for MixNine, though only one made it. Ddalala hits hard and fast, with cut off beats, and the spectacle of a well funded, much more well known group. It seems like a company who is betting damn near everything, and for that I hope they find some success. They seem like they may be able to stand out if given the chance.

Imagine, for a second, that the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders decided to put out a pop track (or maybe more appropriately for them, a country track). And they perform most of the video center field at AT&T Stadium. That is what I imagine the equivalent of Between Us in the states (though idk how actually well known they are, or kt, so it may not be a great comparison). The quality is exactly what you would expect, if you expect very pretty girls who don’t dance like idols, or seem to sing like them at all.

Every Zelo track that comes out makes me miss Bang Yongguk more. Not because he has that sound, but the reminder of BAP. Fault is fine.

I really wanted Arisong to have a traditional element I could pick out (a la Arirang), since the influence of traditional Korea has at least visually been making a bit of a comeback on the boy group side of things And maybe I just couldn’t hear it, and it is obvious to others. But Arisong is a sugary pop bop that isn’t really my style, a commonality of cignature for me.

I usually have like one thing to talk about when I watch a video, or at least one that is most pressing for me. SuperM has me with 3 this week. Thing the first: Hey SM, what the fuck is this paid promotion for? There was a YouTube warning at the beginning. Is it the frankly dope phone? Is it the link for their Marvel merch collab in the description (because that is a thing that exists). Is it for a video game, because no one talks about spaceships that much in stuff that isn’t promotional. Thing the second: This song lyrics feel like they are from an alternate universe where the global language is Korean, and English is niche pop, in that the lyrics are like 98% English, with token Korean, the exact opposite of the usual K-pop set up. Thing the third: I actually tend to really promotion songs that are for something else, from Starship’s whole Pepsi campaign, KDA being literally made for League, and even SuperM with Let’s Go Everywhere. If One is a promotion, it falls into that same category. If it isn’t, I still like it better than 100 and Tiger Inside for the harmonies alone. If I liked it more, it would win.

La Di Da is enough different from the previous stuff that Everglow has put out to feel like an evolution, or and experiment while still keeping the harder hits, and on point rap they are known for. I like the addition of dreamier sounds, especially in the retro synths, and the smooth vocals contrast to the shouting they are known for. And the breakdown is great, especially leading into the final chorus. They get the win for consistently being great and also having a 1Million choreo, which can’t be easy.

Mafia 101, Short Story#1: Park

Mafia 101: an alternate universe where wanna one and others are in a mafia/s. This is a series of short stories about Wanna one and their mafia.

(1 year before Eunji’s dad dies)

You were freezing as you walked back to the building, shivering at every gust of wind that came by. As you were walking you heard someone moan in pain in the back alley, instinctively you put your hand on your gun and approached the voice. In the dim light of the dark night, you saw a young man with red hair who seemed to be your age, face bleeding profoundly. You looked around before approaching even further, not sure if this was a trap of some sort. You touched him lightly and watched his eyes flutter open, as he jerked away from you. As he moved away you notice something hiding underneath his collarbone, crouching you tugged at his shirt to reveal the symbol 101 in black permanent ink. He quickly tried to move your hand away before you could reach his shirt but he was too weak. He must’ve been at the fighting ring… wait is that Park?\

“Are you gonna kill me now that you saw that?” he whispered as he had no strength to talk. “No, are you from the ring?” He shook his head, “who are you?” You smiled, “can’t say, you’re from the ring, I can tell by the way your knuckles are all beat up.” He looked defeated but asked again, “who are you?” Reluctantly, you tugged at your shirt to reveal the same 101 symbol but in blue. His voice shook as he talked, “you’re a higher up, aren’t you?” You nodded your head, “but I won’t hurt you I promise, I wanna help you.” You held out your hand, only for him to refuse, “You said it yourself I’m a higher up, so you’re required to listen to me, take my hand.” You smiled once again, and extended your hand. He gripped your hand tightly, after you helped him up, you call your driver to come.

In the car you pulled out first aid, and cleaned his blood off. “What’s your name? I’m guessing by the hair and knuckles, you’re the notorious Park from the largest fighting ring of the 101. Am I wrong?” He looked at you surprised, “How do you know that?” You chuckled, “Everyone knows about you, you’ve been undefeated for two years.” He turned away, only for you to jerk his face back with your hands. “Why do you fight?” You asked as he flinched. “Well I needed money, if I won more people would bet on me, so I kept fighting.” “Don’t you ever think about stopping, I mean don’t you get tired of it?” He looked at you, “Well I don’t have a choice,” he paused, “Can you really not tell me who you are?” You nodded, “Only if someone else tells you who I am, I stay quiet.”

You arrived to a building of apartments, where it was heavily guarded, but before they let you in they checked Park for identification within the 101. You let him sleep on the couch and you’d sleep on the other couch just in case he tried anything. I woke up to talking in what seemed to be the kitchen, your dad and Park were talking. You walked over to the kitchen, greeted by your maid, confused you looked at the two of them. “Morning Eunji, Woojin will be your new bodyguard.” You looked at your dad, “Woojin? Who’s that…” He then pointed to Park, “You mean Park is my new bodyguard?” You raised your eyebrow. I am so confused, how did this happen? “Yes, show him around, get him evaluated, and take him to the tattoo shop.” “Okay, yes sir…” you said reluctantly.

On the way to the main building, after the tattoo shop, you turned to him, “How does it feel to be promoted Park Woojin?” He chuckled at the fact you said his full name, “It feels great, I didn’t know your father was, well you know and I didn’t know you were, well you know.” You laughed at the fact he didn’t want to say our names, “You can call me Eunji now that we’ll be together for most of the day.”

You made your way to the training room, where you saw JR the head trainer, “JR!” He hugged you tightly, “Hey Eunji is this the notorious Park?” Woojin looked around like he didn’t know what to do after being called that for the second time. “Yes, don’t go too hard on him okay?” Woojin was gawking at you for saying that, “Yes you’re good but JR’s a monster.” “After your done send him to sprouts, thanks again JR.” JR agreed to stop the evaluation short since he seemed capable, “So how do you feel about being her bodyguard?” “Well, it’s a huge opportunity for me to prove myself, so…” JR laughed, “No I mean do you like her?” Woojin looked taken aback, “I mean she saved me, and helped me but…” “But what? I’ve seen the way you looked at her when you got here, I’ve never seen a person so star-struck by a girl like that.” He started to sweat, “Well, I don’t know she’s very sweet and caring, plus she seems independent and well, I don’t know…” JR burst out cackling, “It’s okay man,” as he patted his back.

You were at sector green aka the sprouts nicknamed that because they’re so young. You were working with Euiwoong and Hyeongseop trying to find something about this arms dealer. Woojin walked in, “Woojin meet sector green aka the sprouts, they are the infomats and hackers, they can find out about anything and anyone. That’s Euiwoong, Hyeongseop, Yongguk and Kenta.”

Kenta put his arm around you. “Wow, it seems like she’s so close to everyone.” You were walking out of the office when you heard, “Who the fuck are you?” It was your brother Ha Sungwoon, being loud as always. You stopped him, “Sungwoon the is Park Woojin, my new bodyguard.” He smirked, “bodyguard, but you don’t need one, JR did perfectly fine teaching and is still doing fine.” Woojin stepped up, “Your dad suggested me for the job.” Sungwoon scoffed, “who the fuck do you think you are to be talking to me like that, I’m a higher up.” Woojin smiled, and revealed his new tattoo, a blue 101 symbol. Sungwoon rolled his eyes and walked away. You laughed, “Hey that's pretty good, no one stands up to my brother cause he’s such a dick, good job.” Woojin chuckled, “really, he’s like a little ball of arrogance.” Over time he saw how she grew as a person through different projects and by going out into the field. He also continued to fall for you more and more.

One day before her dad dies

You were at YG’s warehouse, watching your dad do a deal from a safe spot with Woojin. You both were talking when you heard gunshots. You both quickly drew your guns and ducked, taking shots at the other mafia’s members. After the shoot out was done, you quickly ran down stairs, with Woojin running after you, “No Eunji, it’s too dangerous!” You turned around, with tears in your eyes, “after fifthteen years my dad has never had a shoot out before, this is the first.” He grabbed your arm, “you can’t go down there!” You drew your gun on him, “let go Park Woojin, or I will shoot your fucking head off.” He sighed and let go of your arm. You ran down but it was weird you felt something gushing out and a loud bang, everything turned black. Woojin quickly followed behind to see the love of his life get shot right in front of him. Woojin’s eyes glazed over as he pulled out his gun and shot every single one of their men. He ran over to Eunji, “Eunji, talk to me. Eunji…” The drivers soon arrived to the scene, “Help Eunji, she’s bleeding and unconscious please!...” The drivers soon retrieved Eunji and her dad before driving off to the hospital the mafia is associated with. Soon Daniel, Sungwoo, Sungwoon, Jisung, Minhyun, Jaehwan, JR, Aaron, Ren and Baekho showed up. Sungwoon ran through the doors and punched Woojin, “Why didn’t you protect my sister you asshole!” The other boys had to get him off of Woojin, “I tried if I didn’t let her go down, she would’ve killed me!” SUngwoon was furious, “you know damn well when you got this job her life came first before yours!” Woojin got down on his knees, “I swear it was because I love her, I didn’t want either of us to get hurt…” Jaehwan soon went up to Sungwoon and injected him to knock him out before he could say anything else. Mr. Kang, Daniel’s dad, burst through the door along with Daniel. “What happened where’s Mr. Ha, where’s Eunji,” he spoke in a low voice. Daniel then saw Woojin and grabbed his collar, “What happened? Where are they!” The doctor then walked up to Mr. Kang, “unfortunately Mr. Ha didn’t survive the gunshot wounds, however Eunji is okay and is in her regular room.” Mr. Kang then walked out of the doors to make some calls to a specific person in YG.

A couple days later you woke up to the boys, excluding Woojin who was still getting interrogated by Baekho. “Where’s dad, Sungwoon?” Sungwoon looked away and eventually ran out of the room. You looked at Daniel in desperation, “Please… Please tell me he’s okay Niel.” He took your hands, and pulled something out of his jacket, a pink handgun, placing it in your hands. “What’s this… Niel you didn’t answer my question.” He looked into your eyes, “Your dad wanted to give this to you when you took over, so it’s now your time to take over.” You looked at him with disbelief, he’s gone, he’s really gone. You broke down, weeping into Daniel’s arms. Woojin avoided being executed thanks to the other boys, and kept his job. You soon took over your dad’s position, doing a complete 360, you were ruthless as a leader but kind as a person.

Your POV

You are sitting beside Yongguks hospital bed, and now that you are thinking about it, you haven’t done anything else ever since they brought the two of you back. You still remember that day vividly.

“Please save him!” you screamed at Himchan, tears streaming down your face. You were in Jongups arms and looked at the doctor in panic. “I will. Don’t worry. He will be as good as new when I’m done with him.” He told you, but you could see the worry in his eyes. He didn’t believe himself.

“What do you mean I can’t see him?” You asked him. You were lying in a hospital bed, a drip attached to your arm. “He’s in something like an ICU. You will be able to see him tomorrow. We need to watch him for now” Himchan explained “But I need to see him. I need to know that he’s alive.” You stutter and tears start rolling down you cheeks. “I know Y/N. And you’ll be able to do so tomorrow.”You started crying heartbreakingly and fell asleep a short time later due to exhaustion.

Zelo is currently taking care of internal affairs, Youngjae, Daehyung and Jongup as well as a few other bodyguards – you think that one is called Shown –are keeping everyone safe, Himchan is taking care of everyone who got injured during the mission and Yongguk is still unconscious. He lost a lot of blood and his body needs time to recover. At least that’s what Himchan keeps on telling you.

Back when they first brought Yongguk out of the ICU they wanted to put you into separate rooms but you insisted that you would probably go crazy without Yongguk. The first 5 days, you spent mostly asleep, eating or drinking. Apparently you had lost 12 kilograms and were severely malnourished and dehydrated. Your inner organs are unharmed, but you had several broken bones and ribs.

On the 6th day you were able to walk for a bit – your legs were mostly unharmed - , but you were still weak. “You need to rest more Y/N.” Himchan scolded you and you just ignored his words. “I will. I just want to be with him” He accepted that and you sat down next to Yongguks bed.

That’s where you spent you time for the next 7 days. While your health increased day by day, there was almost no change to Yongguks state.

That day was one of those days. “You know, I’m getting scared Yongguk. I want you to become better. But I’m scared you won’t and I will be unable to forgive myself if you won’t wake up. . ” You were sitting in the chair they had brought you. It was fluffy and comfortable and when you asked Zelo why they had brought you that chair, he told you that Yongguk had asked him to take care of you if something would happen to him. “I regret everything. . .”You told Yongguks still form. “I left you because I was scared that you fell out of love with me. That you stopped caring.” You sighed and brushed his cheek. “You know, when I first met you I was so, so scared. When you sat next to my hospital bed you looked so intimidating. But only a few weeks later you were in my house and needed me. And then you were in my bed. And oh my god you looked so handsome. I think I fell in love with your face that day and with your soul. One moment you were a badass mafia leader and just a few seconds later you turned into the soft Yongguk that would cuddle me to sleep. And leaving you hurt so fucking bad. I cried so much. And later, when they had kidnapped me I cried more because I should have listened to you.” You took his soft, pale hand. His skin was so unnaturally pale. Usually he had a soft tan but now he looked ashy. Your lips touched his knuckles and you felt yourself hiccupping. “I’m so fucking scared.” You started crying and tears fell from your eyes to his cheek. You overheard the knock on the door and didn’t notice Himchan entering the room until you felt his hand on your shoulder. “Y/N. . .” His voice sounded sad. You looked up at him and he squeezed your shoulder. “He will wake up soon. Just give him some more time. . ” You hiccuped once more. “I want him to wake up now! I’m so scared Himchan. .” He crouched down to you and smiled. “He will soon. And then you can go back to his room and I can take care of him from there.” You shook your head. “Show me how to take care of him!” You plead with him and he nodded thoughtfully. “It would really be of help to have you take care of him. He doesn’t really listen to me but it seems like he listens to you.” He thinks about it for a second and nods to himself. ”I will show you. But it will take a lot of time until you can take care of someone in his state on your own.” You nodded thankfully, tears still running down your cheeks. “I will do everything I can!” You exclaim and over the following two weeks he took you with him to visit the injured. He was surprised by how quickly you could learn everything and at the end of those two weeks he let you stitch up Youngjae, after he got shot in a small incident. “You’re doing incredible Y/N.”He patted your back and you smiled to yourself.

It has been a month since they got you out of Black widows hand and Yongguk has yet to wake up. You pray every day to someone that he needs to wake up and today – 34 days later - it is time. You sit next to his bed and tell him about your day. “That sounds amazing babe.” A dark, hoarse voice says and you jump up to see Yongguks eyes look at you. “Yongguk!” you lean over his body and brush his cheek. “You’re awake.” Your tears fall onto his cheek and he closes his eyes again.

Over the next few weeks he would wake up every now and then. Every time he would stay awake for longer and talk to you about nonsense. You wanted to wait a little longer until you would talk to him about the two of you. About what you would do in the future. If there would be something like an “us” between the two of you.

You (Ch. 1)

Characters: Misun (OC), Jung Daehyun, B.A.P, other side characters Word count: 1967 Warnings/ genre: romance (eventually. This is a slow-burn fic)

Misun sat in the middle of the clubroom at her university, swiping through her phone as people moved all around her. For the past forty five minutes the various club members had been talking and joking with each other, not really doing any work. The theater club had a performance in two months, but not much had been done since the play had been cast. Misun didn’t really like being in front of an audience, so she was there as the main costumer and makeup artist. For the past year, she and her best friend Sooyeon had been in the club together. Sooyeon had made a lot of friends with the other members of the club and Misun was happy for her. She deserved to have as many friends as she wanted.

“Alright everyone, I think we’re done for today!” The club president announced, making Misun sigh in relief. She stood up and grabbed her bag before moving to stand by the wall to wait for Sooyeon.

Sooyeon came up to her friend with an excited look in her eyes while her bleached blonde hair bounced with every step. “Hey, you can just leave without me. I’m going to go hang out with some of the other club members!” Misun looked behind her and saw several male and female students waiting by the door for her friend.

Today was a Thursday. On Thursdays the two of them used to stay up late to play video games and talk until they fell asleep. Apparently that wasn’t going to happen this week. Again. While Misun could have asserted that she wanted to spend time with her, it just wasn’t worth it anymore. This had been going on for too long.

“Okay, have fun.” Misun’s face didn’t change from the blank expression she had as she turned and walked out the door. On her way, she didn’t make eye contact with the other students as she passed them. That would have only ticked her off more.

Misun was halfway down the hall and anger was starting to bubble up inside her. Then she heard someone call her name. She stopped and turned around. A dirty blonde haired boy was running up to her. She recognized him as Daehyun, someone she knew through a mutual friend. Though now it seemed like he was Sooyeon’s friend, too. “Hey, do you want to maybe come along, too?” He asked, flashing a dazzling smile at the girl.

After getting over the small surprise she felt at his request, Misun shook her head. She brushed her fingers through her long black hair to push it away from her light brown eyes. “I’m not really good in crowds. Thank you for the offer, though. See you later.” She bowed and left quickly, wanting to get out of the building before she lost her temper. The boy continued to stand there for a moment longer, watching her leave. His ego was hurt that she had turned him down. That never happened.

As she stepped out into the rain outside, Misun’s mood grew even worse. She had given her umbrella to Sooyeon this morning because her friend had forgotten her own. Turning on her heel, Misun walked quickly back inside and to the gym on the other side of campus. Most of the students had gone home by now, so hopefully there wouldn’t be anyone around to bother her. Dropping her bag by the door, Misun didn’t even change out of her school clothes. Instead, she walked up to her favorite punching bag, which hung suspended from the ceiling in the corner of the gym room.

After pushing her headphones into her ears and pressing play, Misun began to work through the emotions that were swirling inside her. She punched the bag, hitting it with alternating fists as she bounced on the balls of her feet. She began to move around the bag, adding kicks in with every few hits.

She had just made it around the bag four times when she caught movement out of the corner of her eye. She jumped and stopped, looking up at her intruder. “Oh, it’s just you.” She said, pulling her headphones out as she caught her breath. She sat down and leaned against the wall and looked up at her only other friend.

“‘Just me’? Wow, okay, I see how it is.” Himchan said, smiling as he walked over to sit next to Misun. “And here I thought I was special. Here I thought I was someone important to you.” He feigned hurt, but Misun had known Himchan long enough to know that he was fine.

“You’ll get over it, I’m sure.” She replied, trying to hide her smile.

“Aish, this kid…” He shook his head and finally gave up, laughing until Misun laughed along with him. “Are you almost done? I want ice cream.” He pouted, using his aegyo to persuade his friend. His recently dyed black hair made him more confident in his aegyo, even though it actually wasn’t any better than before.

Misun rolled her eyes but nodded. “Yeah, I’m done. But it’s raining outside oppa, why do you want ice cream?” She asked as they stood up and gathered up their things.

Himchan slung his arm across Misun’s shoulders lazily as he guided her out of the gym. “It’s never a wrong time to have ice cream, Misunnie. You should know that by now.” Misun grinned in agreement as she let the boy steer her toward the school’s exit. At the door, they paused as Himchan took his umbrella out of his bag. As he unfurled it, he looked at his friend in confusion. “Where’s your umbrella?”

“Sooyeon forgot her’s this morning. So I lent her mine. She probably still has it.” Just like that, Misun’s emotions had gone downhill. Himchan caught onto her subtle tells and sighed.

“Well you’ll just have to walk really close to the most handsome guy in Korea if you want to stay dry.” He said, grinning as he held out his hand.

Misun wrinkled her nose. “No thanks, I think I’d rather get drenched.” Himchan just stared at her, his jaw dropped as if he couldn’t believe anyone would ever turn down such an offer. Misun chuckled and gave in, wrapping her arm around Himchan’s and standing closer to him. “I’m teasing, you dork.”

“I knew that.” He replied with a grin as the two started walking, leaving the campus in the rain.

They walked at a leisurely pace along the sidewalk as Himchan talked. His friend Yongguk had had a new girlfriend for a month before telling him about it. As Himchan spoke to Misun about this, he became more agitated.

“Why wouldn’t he tell me?! I’m supposed to be his best friend.” He glared at the pedestrian stop light as the two of them waited to cross the street.

“Oppa, I don’t think he meant to hide it from you. You know he’s shy; maybe he just didn’t know how to approach the subject..?” Misun offered, looking up at her friend. She had only met Yongguk a handful of times and so far liked him a lot. However he was quiet and sometimes seemed a little ominous, so she didn’t approach him unless Himchan was with her.

Himchan sighed and looked down at the ground. “Yeah, I know you’re right..” He said, still clearly deep in thought.

“Maybe you should get a girlfriend and then hide it from him. That’ll teach him a lesson.” Misun suggested as the two of them began to cross the street. Himchan held onto her arm tighter until they safely reached the other side before replying.

“Oh yeah, that’ll show him.” He laughed, shaking his head. “You know I wouldn’t be able to keep that kind of thing a secret. I would want to show her off to the whole world.”

Misun shivered dramatically. “Ew.”

“Hey, when you find someone you like, you’ll feel differently. Trust me!” He continued smiling as he opened the door to the ice cream shop. He held it open for Misun to go in first, but she stopped in the doorway. Abruptly, she turned around and walked back out, not even watching where she was going. “Yah! Misun!” Himchan called out her name but when she didn’t turn around he glanced back inside to see Sooyeon with a big group of people. Daehyun and Youngjae were both there, which surprised him. They weren’t usually the types to hang out with girls like Sooyeon.

“Oh, hyung!” Youngjae looked toward the door and waved, causing the whole group to turn and look at him.

“Hey..” He waved before glancing back in the direction his other friend had gone.

“Misun isn’t here.” Sooyeon said, flipping her hair off of her shoulder. She had heard him yell when he first opened the door.

“I’m aware of that. Okay, nice chat, bye.” Himchan left without looking back at the perplexed group. He began to make his way to the park, knowing the likely places Misun would go when she wanted to avoid something or someone. Sure enough, the girl was sitting on the swingset while kicking her feet in the mud below her. Her hoodie was completely soaked, as well as her hair.

Himchan sighed before slowly walking toward her. He stopped behind Misun, shielding her with the umbrella. He knew that she knew that he was there.

“Do you want to talk about it?” He asked in a careful voice. He didn’t want to interfere in other people’s business, but if it was making her this upset, he wanted to know about it.

Misun was silent for several minutes before she finally decided on what she wanted to say. “Theater club is getting tiring.”

“Yeah? Why is that?” Himchan asked, giving the girl an awkward one-armed hug from behind.

“I don’t know anyone there anymore.”

“You know Sooyeon and Daehyun.”

“I used to know Sooyeon.” Misun corrected, causing things to make more sense to Himchan.

“Did something happen between you two?” Himchan asked, coming around to kneel in front of his friend. It hurt to see her this upset. She had only cried once in front of him, but that was a couple of years ago. Even now, she wasn’t crying. But the expression in her eyes was one of intense hurt and desperation.

“Nothing specifically happened. Maybe it’s because of that; because nothing is happening in this friendship unless I put in all of the effort. She only wants to meet up when she’s available. She spends most of her time with the boys in the theater club. I’m just a convenience friend now.” Misun explained, not looking directly into Himchan’s eyes, but instead at his shoulder.

“I see… Come on, we should get you out of the rain and dried off before you catch a cold.” Himchan said, pulling his friend up by her arm. He kept the umbrella over Misun so she wouldn’t continue to get wet, even though she tried to push it away several times.

Pushing the umbrella handle firmly towards Himchan, she protested. “Keep the umbrella for yourself, oppa. I’m already soaking wet.”

“Yeah, you look like a wet dog.” He said, grinning slightly.

“Yah!” She pushed him, causing him to run right into a tree. Himchan dropped his umbrella and was immediately drenched as the rain was still falling pretty hard. “That’s what you get, punk.” Misun stared at him for a moment before a small smile tugged on the corners of her lips. The grin didn’t reach all the way to her eyes, but it was a start.

Himchan straightened up and laughed good-naturedly. He reached out and held her hand as they walked to her apartment, giving her some confidence through his touch.
